## Analysis

Wild Dog Arcade provides first-hand gameplay impressions of Stern's newly released Transformers pinball machine at a Michigan location. The reviewers find it a competent, well-coded game with intuitive shots and good thematic integration of both Autobots and Decepticons, but ultimately assess it as 'average' with minor playfield issues (cross-rail ball guidance) that detract from the experience. They conclude it's a solid, complete game that feels more polished at launch than Pokémon due to extended development time.

### Signals

- **[product_concern]** Cross-rail guide on Transformers does not properly feed ball to flipper; instead bounces ball to the side and into the playfield, reducing shot accuracy and control (confidence: high) — Repeated gameplay observation: 'It bouncing the side and then bouncing out the middle. So you have a hard time getting to that flipper.' Also: 'I think that needs some adjustment.'
- **[gameplay_signal]** Lower playfield shots feel intuitive and nail consistently; upper steep ramp identified as difficult shot that will degrade with flipper wear/fade (confidence: high) — 'Everything from down below seems to shoot nice.' and 'This ramp is going to be tough when the games get some heat in it.'
- **[code_update]** Transformers appears substantially rule-complete at launch, feeling more polished than Pokémon's release (confidence: high) — 'I feel like the rules and the code right now seems pretty good' and 'It feels better baked out of the box than Pokemon.'
- **[design_philosophy]** Transformers successfully integrates both Autobots and Decepticons, includes first-season characters, Dinobots, and Soundwave with dedicated interactive elements (Megatron ramp and shin-bashing mechanics) (confidence: high) — 'I'm glad that they've got, obviously, the Autobots and the Decepticons in the same game' and detailed shot callouts for Megatron and Soundwave
- **[product_strategy]** Transformers originally scheduled to release concurrent with Pokémon; Pokémon moved forward for 30th anniversary, providing Transformers with additional development/polish time (confidence: high) — 'This was supposed to come out when Pokemon did. Pokemon got moved up for the anniversary. So they had more time to work on this game.'
- **[sentiment_shift]** Transformers received 'average' assessment from experienced players—not bad, not exceptional; avoids common frustration points of recent Stern releases (Jaws, Mandalorian) (confidence: high) — Repeated 'average' characterization with caveat: 'Which isn't to say it's a bad thing at all' and contrasts with 'frustrating like Mandalorian' and 'frustrating like Jaws'
- **[competitive_signal]** Player Ed scored 200 million on Transformers in early play, establishing baseline competitive score (confidence: medium) — 'Ed played it and got 200 million.'
- **[gameplay_signal]** Reviewers struggled to read/understand some rule text and callouts during first play, suggesting either poor visibility or unclear rule communication (confidence: medium) — 'Can't read it, so' when discussing targets and shot goals

## Transcript

Transformers, a brand new Stern Pinball machine has finally hit locations and today we are at U-Leak Pinball and Classic Arcade to see what all the excitement is about. We've put Transformers through its paces and now it's time to share our honest first impressions. The good, the bad and everything in between. Let's jump in! All right. Well, hi. We're playing Transformers. Ooh, he went in there. Prime target. Shoot with ramps. Shoot Optimus to build prop running into a trap. Will Optimus become this Twisted Hunter's next trophy as we begin this episode of The Transformers? Nice. Gagasput, Pee, above that. Oh. Okay. This time Gary Stern will fall and I will rise. What was this Dennepar that just came out? Oh. Oh, Gary Stern will fall. I got lucky on that one. Shoot. All two lines. Nice, another two though. Oh! Shoot red flashing arrow for a skill shot. I guess that was a skill shot. Diecast construction. It's weird that there's like a pop-up around the edge. I'm not... I guess there's a sling maybe. That's all it is. Yeah, I'm not used to having a sling on that side. Sling down here. Yeah. Oh, I got a Transformers multiple. All right, here we go. Oh, that was hard. Oh, damn it. I got robbed on that one. Oh throw that One shall fall Okay shoot triple shots avoid red ones Transmission of data successful Alright. It's just you and me now, Megatron. Then you better get some of you. Oh my god. Oh, I have ball saved. Oh, shit. Hey. Oh, falsy, it's still on. Oh, I lost? Aw, too many targets I should have hit, I guess. Yeah. Alright. I need water. All right, Transformers, first time playing it for me. Ed played it and got 200 million. So here we go. Here we go. Oh, nice. It's supposed to be like putting it right to that flipper, but it kind of shoved it. Down in the middle. One funny bridge bring grip. Shoot the sound wave. Warm-up round, that was your free game warm-up. Yeah. Free game, free game warm-up. Win, Jack. Can you make out what the sense? Make that right there. Oh, good. Good. All right. Good job, Gary. Got another free game. All right. First real game, not a warm-up one here on Transformers. Alright, here we go. Return to the Dragon's Warriors. Wow. There is a center post in this game We have to try to remind ourselves of that It really low It like King Kong It way deep in it I haven't even used the action button yet in my game. I've realized. Okay. Alright. Alright, what do I need to be doing here? I got some targets over here. There you go, got that, whatever that was. Can't read it, so. Over here. Yeah, see, that's supposed to happen that way. Yeah. Yeah, because it's literally bouncing it, hitting the side and out into the playfield instead of feeding a flipper. Oh. Here we go. All right. How about Run Award? Go for Jackpot! Oh! Right down the middle. Yep. Mission accepted. I started a mission! Wow! Just that combo. Transformers Multiball. On top of an episode. Gotta call them episodes, not modes. Oh my god. Oh, that's a good call. Jackpot. Jackpot is lit. Oh, yeah. What's the other thing about, dude? Text Packs are in the... Is that a few seconds? I don't know. Yeah it in Text Packs so that must be that white shot maybe Oh Oh And then it just gave me a crap bounce So so far it average I think what throwing me off is this guide is not putting the ball in front of the flipper It bouncing the side and then bouncing out the middle So you have a hard time getting to that flipper to really do anything up there So I think that needs some adjustment That would probably make it play a little bit better But all in all, it's okay. Yeah. I think it's okay. It's an average game. I don't think it's anything earth-shattering. Really? It's fun. But, yeah, probably not one we would want to buy. Yeah. What I really like about this game overall is the shots feel intuitive but fun. There's a lot to look at and a lot to just enjoy and sit back. I like what they've done here and here. You've got both the ramp and all this stuff that is involving Megatron. I mean, yeah, you can bash his shins and at least it's something. I'd rather bash him, and you kind of do. You have to shoot that ramp that goes in there. But, you know, I'm glad that they've got, obviously, the Autobots and the Decepticons in the same game, which is important because you want to include both. And not only that, you got important characters from first season, Dinobots, and of course one of my favorites, Soundwave. Yeah. So. Yeah, for me since I was having a hard time giving up a flipper because that was not working, everything from down below seems to shoot nice. This ramp is going to be tough when the games get some heat in it. Yeah. So it's going to have flipper fade and it's not going to hit that ramp. It is really short, really steep, cool shot. Nothing from the bottom seemed impossible to shoot and hit. Right. Yeah. But yeah, I think some little tweaks to this crossrail. It might just be this one machine. It's like that. I don't know. What else I'm trying to think? I feel like the rules and the code right now seems pretty good, too. Yeah. It seems fairly complete. Yeah. I don't know how many updates there have been. Well, yeah. I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff that's not encoded in the game here. So. Yeah. I mean, this was our first time playing. This is literally our first time playing this. The Trap. Will Optimus become this Twisted Hunter's next trophy as we begin this episode of The Transformers? Whether or not it has longevity, I don't know. Yeah, like I said, I think it's just an average game. Yeah, I feel like it's average too, yeah. Which isn't to say it's a bad thing at all, honestly. No, it's not garbage. Yeah, exactly. So that is the ultimate... It's not a hot mess. Yeah, exactly. It's not frustrating like, it's not weird like Mandalorian, you know, or frustrating like Jaws because the, you know, Jaws, we never had a connection with that. All in all, it's a good game. It feels better baked out of the box than Pokemon. Right. As far as rules. But I think it's because this was supposed to come out when Pokemon did. Pokemon got moved up for the anniversary. Yeah. So they had more time to work on this game. So it does feel pretty good in that respect. So average, it's an average. Yeah, yeah, I have to I have to agree as well.
