## Analysis

In this casual episode of the Pinball Junk Drawer podcast, the hosts discuss maintaining a 535-day consecutive play streak on Stern Insider Connected while planning a trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula where pinball availability is uncertain. They speculate about upcoming games—particularly Steve Ritchie's rumored fast-paced Sonic game for Jersey Jack and Spooky's continued focus on horror themes—and debate which modern pinball machine (Pokemon, Harry Potter, Evil Dead, or Attack from Mars) would be the best home purchase. The episode includes location data from Lumberjack Johnny's showing Harry Potter, Pokemon, and Beetlejuice as top performers, and coverage of Project Pinball's Love Across America charity donations.

## Transcript

Now who's responsi- I say who's responsible for this unwarranted attack on my person? I say, I say, I say pay attention now boy, this is of course, Foghorn Leghorn presents the Pinball Junk Drawer. You all asked for it, I say, I say you all asked for it now, you're gonna get it. And boy oh boy are you gonna get it. Go, I say go away boy, you bother me. Just like the brisks winds from the east and the warm gentle breezes from the west meeting in the middle. This is, of course, the Pinball Junk Drawer, Big Show 96. I'm calming wind from the east, foghorn leghorned with me as always. Calming wind from the west. I don't know what any of that was. It's getting harder and harder. But anyway, this is the tornado that is for your ears and your butt. And of course, yes, Pinball junk drawer. I'm like sitting over here staring like a hole through the back of your head like, what is he saying? I don't know where that came from. I don't even know what that, it's okay. I don't know where most of the things I say come from, but what are you going to do? That's true. Real quick call out. Now we did get a clarification last week. We were talking about that. Monster hockey. Monster hockey didn't get picked up, which is awesome. And Jake Danzig wrote just a quick note. The name of the development studio is Killdozer Studios. Very cool. Monster League Hockey coming out this year with other titles in development. So very, very cool. And I responded, let us know and we will be a conduit for your news and action. Killdozer. Good movie. Yeah, so also great. I'm so excited for them. Yeah, why not? You know, yeah, there was some other stuff. I heard Dennis Creasel on a collective gamers talking about it, but I'm not going to quote it. I don't remember. Oh, it's all out there. Yeah. So we have a trip coming up. We do. And we have a conundrum coming up. Oh, yeah. So currently I'm at like five hundred and thirty five days street on Stern Insider Connect. They track how many games you've played, how many days you've played, and then how many days consecutively you've played. And if this is your first time listening, welcome. Before, I had almost hit, like I was at like 145 or something like that, I don't even remember. And one of them didn't register, and then it restarted, and I was like, well, crap. And then I like did the streak again just to get to that, and then I blew past it and just kind of kept doing it. So now I'm at 535. Yes. And we're taking a trip to what's called lovingly called the UP, the Upper Peninsula. And if you don't live in Wisconsin, that means nothing to anybody. So don't worry about it. So we're pretty much going to Michigan. Not like the Detroit city kind of Michigan, like the here's some waterfalls and not very much else kind of Michigan. Right. So the streak is in peril. And this is where kind of like this is where crafty. Bruce Daly comes into the game. Well, I was kind of okay with letting it go. And we still like we'll probably try to keep it alive. But if it goes away, it goes away. It's not this is really not that big of a deal, but it's kind of cool. But it is. Yeah. Of course, we're leaving Friday and then we're coming back Sunday. So Friday, obviously, I play here. Yeah. We get in the car. Sunday, get home, play. That's done. Yeah. Saturday. Now, we're going to like a not very populated area. Right. You know. We're going to Iron Mountain area. Yes. And there's a craft brew place that Craft Brew Sally will obviously be featuring. Maybe we can talk to somebody and say, hey, she does a segment on a show. You guys want to tell us anything cool? Yeah. Maybe we could try and get an in. Yeah. That'd be awesome. A free cap or bottle opener or something. I don't know. That'd be awesome. Not really. A glass. Who cares? Anyway. Anyway, so at this point I'm kind of like, eh, if it goes away, it goes away. Again, this is one of those things where it doesn't really mean that much, but it's cool to me, you know. It would be very sad, though, if it happened. Yeah. So I was browsing around Insider Connect and I was like, hmm, let's see where Pinball is where we're going. And like an hour and a half from where we're going to be, there's a brewery, if you can believe that. Yeah, and Craft of Edge, or Radar. I found it somehow. Well, no, it says they have three machines there, so I might get a two brewery trip out of this. I have a feeling you're going to because we're going to go to a couple of thrift stores and then we're going to find out they don't have any video game stores. And we're going to be like, well, what else is there to do here? Breweries. And then we'll do find a grave for a little while. Then my ankle will hurt. Then we're going to go and just get drunk. So probably, I mean, we'll try. I guess we'll go to that other one and see how it goes. Why not? Because, you know, reality is when we take one of the, you know, when we go to Japan, that's it. That's going to be the end of it, you know. Maybe not. There might be Pokemon games on every corner. There's not going to be any games in Japan. I've been there no mas for the pinball. But this is Pokemon. We'll see. I'm guessing no. You know what I mean? Yeah. Reality's reality. I know. You can't do this if you want to do things in life. Right. Yeah, we will see. That'll be in between this show and our next show. We'll be taking this trip. So we'll keep you posted. I do struggle with it a little bit because this is kind of a big number. It is. And then you're kind of like, well, could I make it to a thousand? No. I mean, yes. I would be like, first, can I make it to two years? Because that would be your next. Yeah. What's math? I don't know math. 600, 6, 7, 7, what is it? 720 or something like that? Somewhere around there. Math, everyone. We should do a math pinball machine. I guess at the last show, what's not TPF? Maybe it was TPF. I don't know. At some show or the Pinbrew. It must have been TPF. Steve Ritchie was at the Jersey Jack seminar or whatever like that and said his next game, which is, again, one of those worst rumors ever kept being Sonic. He was saying it's one of his fastest games ever. And I was kind of thinking, well, is that even good? I mean, it's like a game that flows really fast and flows really good feels good. But fast means drain to me. Like, but if you remember those first Sonic games, it was fast. Like, yeah, that was the whole shtick. Yeah. And I don't know. I was never a super fan of Sonic. I did like the first one or two. Yeah. The other ones were total garbage. Well, I shouldn't say total garbage. They weren't awesome. You're going to get yelled at by a sonic super fan. They're going to come running up with big red shoes and they're going to run really fast. And there's going to be rings falling out of their backpack. And they're going to be like, how dare you say that to me? And they're going to be like, that's totally like gnarly bro. And it's going to run up inside of a wall. Oh, I hope somebody does say that to me. And dropping gold rings. Because I would kind of deserve that. I mean, I didn't mean it that way. But I mean, compared to the first ones, the later ones are not great. Well, it suffers from the same as the Pac-Man thing. You're like, okay. You just put a bow on it. No, that was the great. I like Pac-Man. Ms. Pac-Man was the best. And then it's like baby Pac-Man. And it's like Pac-Man Adventures and Party Pac and Pac-A-Pak and Pac-A-Pak. And what is it? Pac 99 or something like that Those are funny because they just weird and assaulting your senses Yeah Now that also might be just things you say leading up to when your game gets released If you're known as the king of flow, you're like, oh, this is the flowiest flow ever. And if you're, you know, like, I don't know what that is. The flowiest flow. Yeah. So, you know what I mean? No, I know. Kind of like you're hyping your game because you want good sales because good sales equals your next job, you know. Right. I don't think Steve Ritchie has to worry about his next job. You know, that's like he's very renowned, you know, there's a lot of that like, but you know, you want good sales. And who does he work for? Jersey Jack. Okay, sorry. Yeah, they're due to say something other than Harry Potter at some point. Right. And I mean, you know, and that's, they're making CEs, they're cranking these things out. Everyone that wants one can get one, which is awesome. Yeah, I just saw a reel today of, ah, goodness, I don't know what his real name is. It's the guy that played Malfoy playing the Harry Potter game. Oh, really? Yeah. It was like a video of his introduction to the game. Oh, that's cool. Yeah, it was neat. And you live in that world. You love that world. I do. So that kind of stuff is really cool. Yeah. I need to spend more time on that game. I honestly do. Yeah. I kind of had a feeling I wouldn't have to worry about it because it would be here at some point. Yeah. Which is probably a truth statement. It probably is. I don't know. We'll see. But when? Yeah. You know, we're still paying off the Elvira. We're getting there. Yeah, we are getting there. But, you know, and it's like because now they have they're talking about what Transformers for Stern. That's not official. Nothing's official. And Spooky always does theirs in November. But they're like kind of making Beetlejuice till the beginning of next year. Yeah. Which Beetlejuice is obviously a smash hit. Yeah. Just a crazy hit, you know. And they only have the room to make one. Right. They don't have... I don't think they even want to. They want a comfortable number, but I don't think they're looking for doing two lines 24-7. I think they're very comfortable in the niche they've made. They're a very solid, good company. Evil Dead and Beetlejuice back-to-back have been smash hits. So we'll see. I'm not sure what their next one is. They haven't leaked, but I'm sure it'll get out there sooner or later. Nothing ever stays. Nothing's ever quiet. Nothing other than Winchester House has ever been a secret. A big surprise. That's because people are probably like, what the hell is Winchester House? They're like, that's got to be a joke name. They just never even bothered leaking it. How many people have you seen have gone to visit the Winchester House now that the Pinball machine's out? I don't know. Has there been some? Yeah, like Dan from Project Pinball was there. A bunch of people have been there. Well, why not? Yeah. It's cool. And it's a cool game. I still haven't gotten down for my second round on it, which is tragic, really. It is. But man, what an awesome game. It's so fun. Right. So that's awesome with those guys. Mm-hmm. Which, now here's, this is a, we don't have a whole lot to go over today, honestly, because there's not, this is the same as, I don't know, like, maybe it was a couple years ago where, like, five games were, like, released in the same TPF. Oh, yeah. And it was like, oh, and then there was nothing to talk about for, like, a year and a half because, like, well, now everyone's just making those games, they promise, you know. Uh-huh. So I was like, if you had to choose, just like, okay, where we got a stork dropped off instead of a baby, it dropped off a bindle full of money. And they're like, hey, go buy a good machine. Would you go Pokemon, Harry Potter, Evil Dead, or one of the others like Attack from Mars or one of those? Like, what would you get for replayability and for just in general enjoyment, you know? Okay. That's a tough one. It is. I jumped you with this question, which means I'm going to have a lot of ums and dead silence to edit out. Maybe not, because I have some things to say. Say them. So first, if it was a different time right now, I would go absolutely Pokemon. Okay. But the Insider Connect isn't working yet. It will. But it's not right now. Yeah. So. You have to have faith. I have faith. Right. I have complete faith. I know. It's going to. And I mean, it's not, they're not holding it on purpose. They're waiting for the license to say, yes, go ahead. The licensor meets a big committee once a month and this ain't that month yet. Right. Oh my God. Right. Come on. Um, so then I would have to say next up would be Harry Potter. Yeah. See, I like Evil Dead. I don't, I don't know. Like, yeah, see, it would be Pokemon or Harry Potter to me as well. Right. And I had a feeling, I have a feeling playing Harry Potter would, there's more to like discover in that game. Right. But that game doesn't go boopy doop and I don't capture different Pokemon and that's addicting and that's the problem. Right. And I, you know, like I, it's almost like it was, it would have to be Harry Potter. Right. Like, yeah. You know, like, cause I know that sooner or later we're going to start setting our sights on the next whatever comes into this house. Yeah. You know. Cause we're really close to paying off our virus. And then, you know, I mean, whether the Dr. Dude leaves or not, whether, you know, our lineup changes or not, we have plenty of space. We just don't got the money to just go buy machines if we wanted to. Won't you get rid of Dr. Dude? I don't know. You know, we don't play it very much. I do like it. It's a fun game. It's a very 90s game. So I wouldn't want to get rid of it. But, you know, we'll cross that bridge when we cross it. Right. So you're saying not like the Attack from Mars. You know, like that's a solid game. CGC really put out gorgeous games. Oh, my God. I forgot you mentioned that. Yeah. Or like one of the ones or what about like Beetlejuice or what about like. I kind of feel like we would probably maybe write some of these names and put them in a hat and pick them out and see what happens. And then when you pick it out and you're like, no, this isn't the one. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, I guess that's a good way of doing it. Because I do, I love Attack from Mars. Me too. I love, love. And when CGC made it, I was like, oh, this one's gorgeous and perfect. It's just they made what had to be updated, updated, and they left everything else alone. It's like, oh, yeah. I love that game. I do, too. Maybe the Stork will drop off enough for three games. I don't think that's going to happen. Now, because the Attack on Mars is funny. That's one of those games, no matter what happens, you feel pretty good when you walk away. Yeah. Like, you did horrible, but you still scored like 127 million. You're like, oh, yeah, man. I got France, and I did that one thing where they shake really funny. And I turned a couple of them up, but not all of them, but who cares, maybe next time. Harry Potter has a lot to learn, like to teach. And, you know, we haven't been somewhere where we can just play it over and over and over. No. Like we've only played it at Lumberjack Johnny's. Right. And I played it at Glow in the Park. Right. So, yeah. But it's like, here's my dollar. Here's my dollar. I know. You know what I mean? Like if we were somewhere where it was free play. And you had it for like or you like you rented it for a month and you had it for a month. You just played the hell out of it. Yeah. Which that's not that business model went away. Right. Because that was a COVID thing, I think. Uh-huh. But the yeah, because you don't you can't like really explore the game. I can lose a ball over and over trying to do the one shot to see if it does something Beetlejuice has a ton of stuff Yeah It has some really nice shots too I will say that thing shoots great When I was playing it, I was surprised at how getting some of the shots, they weren't overly repetitive. And I was also able to do some of the tighter shots to unlock modes and stuff. I can see the appeal to that game. Oh, yeah. And that one will be, I think that one will hold value pretty well. I don't know if Harry Potter is going to. Now, Harry Potter is always going to be worth something. But with this business model, I don't I wouldn't see the secondary market like becoming ravenous for this because there's going to be a lot of them. It'll always be worth a good good money because it's Harry Potter. It's a great game. It's beautiful. You know, there's nothing really against it. Um, I there's a lot of people that aren't buying it because of the author of the books. Yeah, I know. And yeah, you know, it's it's sad. It is. And it's because that shouldn't tarnish it, but it does. It's the same as, well, some of the actors where I loathe the actor, I can't, it's tough for me to watch even movies I like. Right. You know, I can't really watch Mad Max so much anymore. I do watch them somewhat. He's not a nice guy. Right. You know, and it just go, well, and you have to put that aside. You know what I mean? Because you enjoy the movies. Exactly. Well, like there for the longest time, I refuse to watch anything with. Jack Reacher. No. Oh, I'm at a punching distance, which is good for my arm. Oh, goodness. Help me out. You can do it. He was married to Jennifer Aniston. Oh, Brad Pitt. Yes. Well, I don't even know what that was about. He's a good actor. He's funny. Yeah, but I really liked Jennifer Aniston. I was in a friend's phase, you know, and then he like left her and then married that other lady. What other lady? That Angelina Jolie. Yeah. I have a feeling both of those were probably viewed as a mistake in his when he looks back on his life. Yeah. Sipping a bourbon. He's probably like, I shouldn't have married either. I've been dating either of those. I shouldn't have been on those dates. You know, but you know, I refuse to watch movies in some of his movies for a while. And then I found out that was a huge mistake. Yeah. And then he was in bullet. Was it bullet train? It's just a disaster. So funny. And that other movie. The lady from Fargo. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, Burn After Reading where he was like that guy. He was, he's a very funny actor. Yeah. I know what you mean though. Yeah. So it's like you kind of go, well, I don't know. Just, it's, it's. Yeah. She's a horrible person, but I like the story. Yeah, I don't let it affect me. Right. I don't care about. No. You know, she doesn't check up on my personal viewpoints and I don't check on hers. It's all right. But that was never even my thing. I like Godzilla. We got Godzilla. Yeah. And we both like the Beatles. We got that. So I guess this is a viewpoint of themes. It does matter quite a bit. But if it doesn't shoot right and it's not a good pinball machine, then we don't. Pokemon would always be in the discussion for me, though. Yeah, I think so, too. So would the Star Wars one. Yeah. Fall of the Empire. Like, that one does not get the love, but I like that game. I do, too. It's a fun game. I don't know why. People just don't like it. They say it's uninspired and it's whatever, this, that, and the other thing. I don't know. This is just my opinion. I feel like they're trying to get new people into the game. Yeah, well, yeah. And that's why I could be totally off base on this. But Pokemon is a tough game. Yeah, because you have to get into that Pokedex. Well, and then also just... To collect your Pokemon and that's not easy. And it's just frustrating. Under pressure because they're counting it down. It's a fun, I bet you I can't wait to see one of the LEs. I don't know if we'll ever see one in the wild but at some point I got to get up my hands done playing one again. Right. Oh, so cool. I don't know. So those are just some ideas. Those are just some what I was wondering what you would pick. I kind of thought you would do Harry Potter. Yeah. You know, not Sonic. We're not Transformers. No. I don't care about Transformers. That's another one that is massively popular. Yeah. My brother had Transformers when I was a kid, but I don't think we watched any of the movies. Ah, we watched one or two and I was like, I don't need to see any of these. Thanks, you guys just go on ahead. I'm going to stay back here and watch my B-movies. I'm alright. I don't need that. But they're hugely popular. Just like the Beetlejuice. Whatever. Alright. You got anything for us? I do. Oh my god. So this might be foreshadowing as to which machine we should get on that list we just talked about. So the top, or how we say the sharpest axes at Lumberjack Johnnies this week, third is Beetlejuice. Third? It went from first to third. Second is Pokemon. Second. And the top performer is Harry Potter. Really? Yep. So maybe Harry Potter's the one. Yeah. Well, that's interesting. Yeah. It really is. I'm kind of like, wow. Because that's been out on their location for a while. Harry Potter. Yeah. That's cool. And I'm not sure, but at one point they had two Pokemon machines there. So now hold on. What was second? Pokemon. Okay, so Harry Potter, Pokemon, Beetlejuice. Yep. See, Beetlejuice was hot and then now it's leveled off. Yeah. You know, that's wild. That's cool. When we saw Lumberjack Dave at Stern when Pokemon was released, I talked to him and I was like, how long do you think it's going to be number one? Right. I think he said three, four weeks. Yeah. And I said, oh, it'll probably be longer than that. And that did not happen. No, but. Which I'm surprised. Yeah, I. But. What happened, I think what happened was it doesn't have the booby doobs. Yeah. If this, when this rolls out and you start getting the achievements and you start getting the collecting. Yeah. That's when this is going to like bell curve straight up. Not bell curve, curve straight up. Yeah. I think because now you're starting to get those things. It's missing. I worry that they're missing the mark with this. But I mean, this is not Stern's doing. Yeah. But they really got to get this squared up and going because everyone's like, OK, yeah, you know, come on, because that is this the reward system. When you hear that, when you're like you start getting them and it's on your phone, it's on your Indicator Connect. That's a big deal. It is. So get it going, Pokemon. Yeah, hey, we need the badges. Yes, we do. We need the Pokemon. We need the Pokedex. Yes. Oh, that's cool. What were the three lowest performers? He did have, I think, Zeppelin and Iron Maiden were out of the lineup there. Oh. I think, because remember he had written saying. He was going to take, I think it was Zeppelin or Iron Maiden he was going to take home for a while. I know. Maybe Zeppelin was still there. I can't remember. Yeah. So, yeah, but he did swap it out, which is good. I mean, that's one you would want in your house anyway. And then. One of the three dullest axes in the axe bindle So we have Dungeons and Dragons Dungeons and Dragons Yeah Okay Star Trek Okay. And Ultraman. Ultraman. Yeah. Star Trek is one of those, I like it. I don't play it a lot though. I mean, it's a fine shooting game. It's just not one that I go, oh, I love this. I want to play this more. You know, that all makes sense, I guess. Ultraman, I haven't even played that since it's on location. Yeah. I don't know if I've ever played it. I did. I played it at, I played it when we went there, didn't we? They had one that was on when we went to... Dave and Nicky's. No, Spooky. Oh, oh yeah. And it was right beside the Evil Dead. I think I played one game on it. Yeah, I played it at Nicky's. I think it might have been the first ladies' flip that I was at Nicky's. I almost wanted to buy it because I put it next to my Godzilla, our Godzilla. And, eh, I don't know. Just never did. Right. So what else you got before we go to everyone's favorite segment? So, Project Pinball is working on the Love Across America. Right. So they dedicated machines 85 through 88. All right. Yeah. So we were at a Ronald McDonald house in Denver. Cool. They donated a game in memory of Dean Grover. Ah. So it was his Spider-Man Home Edition prototype. Wow. Yeah. Okay. And it's said that they worked with Stern to get the artwork added to this game to be placed there. That's really cool. Yeah. Number 86 was a brand new Jurassic Park to the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Durham, North Carolina. Okay. Number 87 was in New Haven to a children's hospital. All right. And number 88 went to Staten Island. Staten Island. Yeah. Very cool. A special needs school in Staten Island. Cool. That's nice. Yeah. You know, I hope this keeps gaining momentum and keeps going. He's really doing some great stuff. Yeah. And I think it speaks to his dedication. These trips, the mileage. Oh, my God. Yeah. So keep on keeping on, Dan. And we'll keep ringing the bell for Project Pinball because, you know, it's a charity. Because we have to. Yeah, we have to. Right. All right. That's the end of this. I think it's time to drop in. Skate, slippy, slappy, Samsonites, Supreme Skateboarder Glenn. Spaghetti. Monster Glenn's favorite thing. Music. Craft Brew Sally. You're gonna have to put your journal down. Crab Brew Sally Child, you've been to all the breweries around. You've been running all over the town. Tell me what to drink until I fall on the ground. Yeah, somebody put some beer in my mug. And we're back. What do you got for us this week? So this really isn't going to be a craft beer segment this week. Oh no, is it going to be a craft story? Yeah. Okay. This is going to be a little story about going to the doctor's office with Foghorn's mom. Yes. So I worked half a day and I came home to pick her up to take her to the doctor's office. Bet everyone who wasn't at home going, I bet you this craft brew story is going to be about Foghorn Leghorn's mom's doctor's truth. Okay, continue. Go ahead. And I walk in the house and she is wearing a t-shirt. That we procured for her. At a craft brew festival. That's right. It was the craft brew festival up at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Yes. So she got a Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre gin and juice t-shirt. Yes. So the lady was sitting there giving these out and I was like, we should get one for my mom. And she's like, OK, you know, we got her size. She wears all the time. So great. Yeah. So, yeah, go ahead. So I get home and she's wearing that and I'm thinking to myself, maybe you should tell her to change. And then I was like, no, it doesn't matter. She has a shirt over top of it. You've been living with me long enough to go, let's see where this goes. That's what my head says all the time. I see things happening in slow motion crashes. I'm like, let's see where this goes. Yeah, it went right where I thought it was going to. So she took her over shirt off to get her blood pressure done. And he is like, he's just like there and he's kind of like shaking his head and he says, I really wish there weren't Hippolos right now because I would take a picture of you in that shirt and I would send it to all of my colleagues. And I was like, here we are. This is what I thought. So then after her appointment, he like, you have to come with me. I have to show your shirt to a couple of people. So he walks her into the office where all of the nurses are sitting there doing their work. And he says, come on, everybody, look at what this grandma is wearing to come visit us today. That's awesome. Yeah. Now my mom wasn't embarrassed, right? Not one bit. Good, good. No. That's funny. It is. I keep thinking we have to take a picture of her of that and like send it to Snoop Dogg. Oh, I am. He probably would send us a case of his gin and juice if we did. I sent a little note to Snoop Dogg and Dr. Trey. Oh, you did? Yeah. We haven't heard anything back yet. Oh, boo. Yeah. Because he's very, I mean, they're both very busy, but that's funny. Did you have the picture or no? No. Oh, see? That's funny, though. Yeah, it was so funny. You're never too old to have fun, folks. Right. That's what we should always take away from that story. So that's a yes. So yeah. So we might have to we may get her that Snoop Dogg's gin for the next bottle that she gets. Why not? Support those who you support. Yeah, it's just that's classic. It was so funny. Good story. All right. Yeah. Anything else? I don't think that is going to wrap it up. We're going to have our trip under our belts. When we get back, we'll we'll tell you all about that wackiness and what has ensued. And if the streak has continued or not. Yes. Is it going to be the end of an era like The Undertaker losing to the dastardly Brock Lesnar? Or will the streak continue in rays of hope and joy? I don't know. Thanks for listening, everyone. This has been the Pinball Junk Drawer, Big Show 96. If you're not careful, you're going to be here for Big Show 97 next time. That's it, man.
