## Analysis

Slam Tilt Podcast Episode 55 covers Star Wars pinball launch party coverage from Rock Fantasy, discusses code stability issues (0.85 version), Gary Stern's public communication about manufacturing defects (ghosting, crazing, dimpling), and community tournament results. Hosts Ron Hallett and Bruce Nightingale also address feedback about their Pinberg coverage tone and correct tournament details, plus discuss upcoming Saratoga and Buffalo pinball shows.

### Key Claims

- [MEDIUM] Star Wars Premium ($76,000) vs Pro ($52,000) difference is primarily accelerator and Death Star effect, not worth $2,400 — _Ron and Bruce debate whether the physical additions justify price gap; Death Star effect shown once in 2.5-hour stream with no lighting programmed_
- [HIGH] Stern sent only one Translite to Rock Fantasy for Star Wars launch party, down from previous multi-item support — _Steve Keeler (Rock Fantasy owner) told Ron they received only one Translite vs. multiple items in past launch parties (Avengers, ACDC, Metallica, Batman 66)_
- [HIGH] Star Wars launch party at Rock Fantasy featured game-breaking bug during finals where all feature lights turned off mid-multiball, then display died, then flippers died — _Ron witnessed Steve Bowden's game crash in unprecedented way; detailed play-by-play of hyperspace multiball malfunction; tournament result overridden due to crash_

Significant frustration with Stern's corporate decisions. Positive notes on tournament participation and community engagement. Apologetic tone regarding earlier Pinberg coverage feedback.

### Signals

- **[product_concern]** Star Wars pinball shipping with 0.85 beta code; crashes in unprecedented way during competitive play; code versions 0.85 vs 0.87 have opposite problems (crashes vs exploitable bugs) (confidence: high) — Ron and Bruce document specific crash cascade (lights off → display off → flippers die → reboot shows zero scores); describe as worst game failure they've witnessed
- **[code_update]** Star Wars code version 0.85 selected for launch despite known bugs; represents beta release to consumer market (confidence: high) — Explicit discussion of 0.85 being 'beta code' (version below 1.0); acknowledgment it will 'crash' and 'be buggy'; comparison to historical crashes (No Fear magnet damage, WPC resets)
- **[manufacturing_signal]** Stern formally acknowledges ghosting, crazing, and dimpling as 'common occurrences' in service manual language update (confidence: high) — Gary Stern's official memo read on air; states defects will be documented but warranty coverage unaffected; signals acceptance of these as known issues
- **[product_strategy]** Star Wars Premium/LE pricing strategy relies on mechanical add-ons (accelerator, Millennium Falcon, egg cracking) rather than feature completeness (confidence: medium) — Bruce and Ron debate whether $2,400 Premium premium justified by accelerator speed and Death Star effect; note Death Star shown once in stream with no lighting effects programmed
- **[operational_signal]** Stern reduced support package for Star Wars launch parties compared to prior launches (Avengers, ACDC, Metallica, Batman 66) (confidence: high) — Rock Fantasy owner Steve Keeler received only one Translite vs. multiple items and prizes in previous launch events despite buying every Stern game
- **[event_signal]** Star Wars launch party at Rock Fantasy featured catastrophic game failure; tournament outcome decided by crash rather than score; represents pattern of problematic Stern launches (confidence: high) — Documented crash sequence mid-finals; comparison to Kiss spit malfunction, Batman 66 infinite games, ACDC failures; result determined by crash rule not performance
- **[regulatory_signal]** Stern removed Star Wars launch party promotional flyer due to licensing/marketing issue (confidence: high) — Direct report from Steve Keeler that Stern cited 'Marketing and licensing' reason for flyer removal
- **[sentiment_shift]** Shift from operator enthusiasm to frustration regarding Stern support; once-loyal location operator (Rock Fantasy) visibly disappointed by minimal launch support (confidence: medium) — Hosts' commentary on inadequacy of single Translite; contrast with past loyalty and spending; Steve Keeler's visible disappointment in conversation with Ron
- **[community_signal]** Slam Tilt addressing community feedback about their Pinberg coverage tone; acknowledging they came across as disrespectful to broadcast crew (confidence: high) — Ron's apology to unnamed broadcast crew member who sent lengthy Facebook complaint; commitment to be 'less dick-like'
- **[content_signal]** Head to Head Pinball Podcast referenced by Slam Tilt as using their 'mail ball bag' terminology; hosts joking about cease-and-desist (George Takei joke) (confidence: medium) — Ron and Bruce discuss Head to Head's use of mail ball bag phrase; acknowledge Head to Head is good show despite borrowing terminology; playful tone suggests not serious concern
- **[competitive_signal]** Rochester pinball league tournament results; Zach Sharpe unable to make Final Four despite recent high scores; Kathy beat both Bruce and Zach in recent matchups (confidence: medium) — Ron reports finishing 1st, Matt 2nd, Bob 3rd, Kathy 4th in semis/finals; Zach departed early after not making Final Four; Kathy's victory over Zach notable
- **[business_signal]** Pattern of Stern cost-cutting visible in reduced launch support, minimal incentives, single translite distribution (confidence: medium) — Host commentary: 'It's a budget constraint we can't send anymore'; contrast with previous multi-item launch packages suggests financial pressure

## Transcript

The name of this class is physical education, and that includes proper personal hygiene. Hit the showers now or fail! Uh, well, it looks kind of crowded in there. Do I have to undress you myself, butthead? Uh, no. Yeah, I mean, no. Coming to you from beautiful upstate New York, this is the Slam Tilt Podcast, the show about all things pinball. I'm your host, Ron Hallett, here with my co-host, Bruce Nightingale. Damn you, Chuck Webster. Make your date the same day as mine, you bastard. Is that your attempt at a New England accent? Yeah, chowderheads. It's almost as bad as your Australian accent. Almost. That's the same tone. Almost. I won't even attempt the New England accent. That is not one I have perfected. I will have to work on it someday. I'll be getting to him. Okay. This is episode 55, Life Stinks. Yes. We're running out of movies soon. Yeah. What's this one about? I don't think I've seen this one. It's about him being a CEO of a company. Oh, he loses all his money. Yes. Okay. And he becomes poor, and then he realizes what the meaning of life is and all this other stuff. But we're running out of movies, folks. Wait a minute. What do you think of the movie? Was it any good? Eh. Oh, okay. There you go. So, yeah, we're running out of movies. We need more ideas. Yes. We need more ideas. We've got a couple in our mail ball bag. Can you use that term? I heard that on another podcast. I know. Well, luckily, I have talked to our lawyers. The cease and desist. Well, first, did you know the name of our lawyers, Ron? It's Nightingale, Hallett, and Takai. Oh, my. We're going to sue the assholes that took our freaking thing. Okay. We are going to sue, sue, sue. Okay, guys. Our friends of the podcast, Head to Head. Keep on lovingly use our mail ball bag. Head to Head podcast? Yep. Co-hosted by Ryan C. himself? Yes, it is. Are you saying they're ripping off the name of our mail ball bag? Yes, I've massaged my mail ball bag many times to make it work the way it does. And now they're ripping the mail ball bag. Yes, they're ripping off, like a band-aid off our ball bag. Oh, my. So the cease and desist letter will be coming from George Takai himself. Oh, my. You better stop. Oh, my. Joking, boys, but it's actually nice that they were stealing bits from us. I like that. I actually kind of thought it was funny. It's up to you. Do you want to stick the lawyers on him? George Takai can be pretty mean. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I'm a Facebook friend, man, and you don't want to mess with him. But I think we'll let it slide. Okay. We'll let it slide this time. It's a good show, though. I was listening to Episode 3 today while working on games. Oh, we'll get into that. But I want to just get something out of the way here. We had, on our last podcast, we had some comments about the coverage, I guess the broadcast of the semifinals and finals for Pinberg. and we received a communicate through Facebook from the gentleman who did the coverage, who was not very happy with us and felt we went over the line and were a bit on the, basically went over the line and were sort of disrespectful to him. So I'd just like to say I apologize on behalf of myself if that came across. He wrote a very long, like page long, when you get a page long communicate on Facebook, you know it's not going to be any praise. It's going to be something negative. Basically, as representatives of the hobby now, we probably shouldn't be so dick-like. And I can say as somebody who, when we did the first two episodes, I think, of this podcast, literally the first comment we got, and it's still out there if you want to look at it, was that we were boring and shouldn't be listened to. So I really can't think of anything else to say. will try to be less dick-like. So we'll just get that out of the way. We got corrections. Oh, yes. God, I got to say what I'm wrong. I'm never really wrong. This is one of the deals where when we were talking about it, I just said, oh, yeah, that sounds right, when I, in fact, had no idea, which was when we had Steve Daniels on, he was wondering because there was like 796 players at Pinnberg, and he had people there with him that came down hoping to get in on the wait list and couldn't get in. And he was wondering, like, did they start with 800 and then the four dropped out sometime during the tournament? And we said, oh, yeah, that's probably what happened. That is not what happened. As corrected by Chris Warren and confirmed by Bo and Karens, what happened was they had 800, well, after, you know, anyone on the wait list got in, et cetera, when they started, they had 800 people checked in but what happened is four people who checked in the previous day either at the um where was it the kickback cafe or the pittsburgh league headquarters whatever it was called didn't show up yikes they just you went through all that you came there you checked in and then they didn't show up so and there's no way for them to know that they have 800 people checked in it wasn't until the first round started and people aren't there in their groups that they know they're not there, and by then it's too late to get anyone else in. So that's what happened with that. That was the only correction. I have one more. Oh, you have another correction. I do. Oh, God. What did we screw up? Oh, I screwed up. Oh, okay. Instead of four states. Overstomp. It was actually eight states. Holy shit. If you really want to get technical, eight states, one foreign country. Canada? Nope. Oh. Nope. So European – I don't know if it's European or Asian, but what's his name? I can't say his name too well. B-A-S-C-I, you know. Bashi. Yes, his wife. So she is actually from India, eyes of IFPA, another country. So she actually – so we actually had foreign influence on our – Foreign influence. So let's see. I'm looking at our – we tried to – We actually have an outline. We want to keep it lean, mean, fighting machine here. Yes, we have an outline. The pinball princess would love it if we have an actual outline. Yes. Let's see. So go for it, man. What do you got? We'll let you start. News. We had the Star Wars video premiere from Jack Danger on last Friday. And, of course, being a podcaster and doing the research, you watched it, right? So you didn't watch it because he's old and was probably asleep by the time. I actually saw bits and – very few bits and pieces of it. Actually, Ryan C. sent me a clip of the video of Steve – sorry, not of Steve playing, of Keith playing. Hi, Keith. And I can say hi, Steve because I just said Steve's name. But hi, Keith, of the hyperdrive failing, and then the switch didn't register, and then the flippers died, and it went right down the middle on him. And his face was classic. Steve was like – and just turned around and walked away. I mean, not Steve. From what I saw, let's see. Well, according to Pinside, because that's what I go by. Oh, God. The hyperdrive thing was pretty cool, and the Death Star blowing up was terrible. It's non-existent. No, they showed it. Yeah, one time out of two and a half hours. Yeah, and it took Keith Elwin to do it. Yes, of course. That was the other comment. Like, Jesus Christ, do you need that level of skill to actually make the Death Star blow up? Who the hell is going to want to do that then? And what I saw, when the Death Star blew up, it literally was like the egg opening. Was it Lost World where that happens? Yes, I know. Yeah, it was like the egg just cracked open, and that was it. None of the lighting effects or anything had been programmed in yet. So it was very anticlimactic. I thought the – I call it the supercharger. I thought it was cool. I mean, it was way faster than I thought it would be. Let's put it that way. Is the $3,000 cool? Well, is the $3,000 difference between the Pro and the Premium? $52,000 to $76,000. so that's not 3,000 2,400 so is the accelerator and the egg cracking open Death Star worth that price because that's really the only difference that I saw well there's a Millennium Falcon on there a couple extra plastics I thought the hyperspace thing was cool I mean like I said it was way faster than I thought it would be I mean that thing was if you're thinking like just as big as it is i kind of thought it would be a certain speed but it was way faster than that and it makes a cool little lighting effect as it's going around so back to the original question uh-huh 2400 better no no no and and the weird thing about the le's is they're seeing they're seemingly less less le oh i agree if you look at star trek le best one And you look at that, I mean, yeah, Bruce literally came in his pants at the factory when he saw it because he had a premium on order, and he saw that thing with the lasers on the side and the real bad grass. And I already had an LE on order. I had one LE, so I had to order two LEs. You had an LE for someone else? Yes. Yeah, and you saw it like, oh, my God, I have to change my order. I need an LE. And I walked right outside, called up my distributor, and within 20 minutes, I had an LE because I had to prove to him. I'm like, I'm not going to resell this. It's mine. And he goes, where's the other one going? And I told him, and he goes, okay, that was it. Yep. So, yeah. I don't think – honestly, I think they spent most of the budget on getting the license. Oh, budget. I think they had less of a budget for the actual game because of probably the cost of getting Star Wars. I don't know. What do you think? I'm still up in the air. I like the shots. I like the game flow. hate the freaking rules. I am definitely 100% on board with Tim. And they've nerfed now the rules now twice it looks like. They lowered them and then lowered them again. Lowered what? The multipliers. You know what? Here's the deal. Here's the deal, folks. You are the beta tester now. You are the consumer. You are the champion of the beta testers. You are the beta tester. Because what's the code revision right now, Bruce? 0.873. 0.87. What is, in the computer world, what is typically the first version of anything? 1. 1.0. This is 0.87. This is beta code, folks. It is going to crash. It is going to be buggy. You are the testers. You are the tester. And that's just... Oh, God. You are a tester. And it crashes. It crashes in the middle of the light show. It just reboots. Dear God, could you imagine that when these games came out back in the day? I'm trying to think of some funny stuff that could have happened. and you're playing Attack from Mars, and you know, rule the universe, it just reboots. But yeah, that is the model now. You are the beta tester. If it's physically done enough, then it comes out. The thing I'm wondering, are you going to get a situation one day? Let me give an example. No fear. Most people that listen to this podcast will probably be familiar with the game No Fear. No Fear has three magnets in the back that accelerate the ball up the, when you go up the ramp and comes around. Or stop them. But these three magnets on early revisions of No Fear, they stayed on too long and started melting ramps. So they came out with an update. What happens now with all these beta versions they put out, if it actually does something that physically fucks up the game or break something because of something like that. Something as simple like the, I don't know, the accelerator on Star Wars is too fast. And the ball actually flies off and like plows into that Millennium Falcon that's sitting there and breaks it. You know? Yeah. What starts happening when that occurs? Malfunction. Malfunction. You've got a robot coming out. I mean, I don't blame... I don't blame the designer. I don't blame the programmers there at Stern. This is a corporate decision to be releasing these games before they're ready. And I think Steve even said the delays have been because it just hasn't been ready. And I think it still isn't ready, software-wise. I mean, anyone who watches it, it ain't ready. And we'll get into the colossalness of the bugs later when I talk about the Star Wars launch party I attended. Yes. Where I got to see a game fail in a way I have never seen a game fail before. It was classic. No, it was epic and totally new. I've never seen a game fail. And I equate it to not give it away, but you know the final mode in Giant Mnemonic? Yes. System shutdown as things start to fail? Yeah. And like stages? That's literally what this was. Okay. So that was the stream. Other than that, I mean, it was pretty much the same as the Pro Stream that you saw. Yeah, except if you noticed, they weren't using the multiplier shots. Oh, they weren't? No. Okay. I don't think one person hit that button. Oh, all right. I wonder if they were asked to not hit the button. Maybe. I hope they changed the rules. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. You didn't see it. How the hell do you know that happened? Well, I know. I've read it. I watched about 10 minutes of it. Oh, okay. Okay. So you lied. And then Tim and me talked about it afterwards. Timmy. Timmy. We were talking about the rules. Other than that, we have another bit of news. Eric Russell sent us a piece of news Sunday afternoon. Oh, yeah. Okay, yeah, I have that. I actually have that on my list. I forgot to mention that in our pre. Dear ladies and gentlemen, this is actually from Gary Stern himself. Yep, so I will let go for it. Dear ladies and gentlemen, the pinball market continues to expand around the world. With that in mind, we've recently added language to our front cover of our service and operations manual. The language is intended to inform new participants in pinball about common occurrences associated with the game, including dimpling, crazing, and ghosting. The language does not impact our warranty coverage. We stand behind our products and services. We will continue our research and development efforts to further improve our games with the goal of delivering a compelling entertainment experience for all players. Please feel free to contact me, John, or any member of our sales staff if you have any questions or concerns. Best, Gary Stern, President, Pinball Stern, blah, blah, blah. And he gives phone numbers out. Including his mobile number. It's his mobile number. So if you want a good time, call 847-278-1398. Is that what it actually is? Yes. Okay, repeat that again. Again, this is Gary Stern's mobile number that he published. Yes, 847-278-1398 for a good time. Ask for the old gray stud muffin. The stud muffin. So, yeah, he put his – Eric Chow says to call him while we're on air. No, I'm not calling them. This goes along with what Steve Daniels was saying last week, that even though they did put the language on there, they are still saying we will still stand behind our product. If you have ghosting on like 10 of your inserts, hopefully they will still do something for you. I think they will. I have no fear of that. I think they're trying to cut down the one and two ghosting insert areas. Yeah. The thing is, on Star Wars, they got those hot dog inserts, and they love to have that. What other game had three hot dog inserts from Steve Ritchie? Well, three. It's got four, I think, doesn't it? Three. I think it's got four. Doesn't it have four? No, it's got like four different missions because it's got the four characters. And each have three missions. And then the fourth one, that's the multiball. So they got four hot dogs. What you got on Firepower's got two huge ones. Hmm? Steve Ritchie is the master of the hot dog insert. Well, I was thinking about the shields. Oh, and Star Trek. That's right. You know, this could be a good question for our listeners. Can you think of a designer who's had more games with hot dog inserts? I don't know. High Speed? Damn. You're right. There is four hot dog inserts. Damn, he loves hot dog inserts. Hmm. All right. I'm thinking of hot dogging. I just wrapped up the hot dogging. You just wrapped up the hot dogging? Where is it going? Oh, we'll talk about that later. We'll talk about that later. What else do we have for news? Let's see. I'm looking at my, we got Star Wars stream, we got Gary Stern's phone number. For a good time, call Gary. Oh my! Oh my! No, no! I'm not going there. I'm a happily married man. So let's see, what else? I don't think anything else on news. Oh, well, we just had the Saratoga show coming up this weekend. Oh, we're talking about the show? Well, we can talk about it because you're going to be going there. I'm going to the Saratoga show, yes. You can meet Ron Hallett. You can meet Tilt. You can meet Tilt himself. And I had a change of heart, Bruce. What? You know, remember my original idea, bringing Flash there to sell? Yes. So I swapped out the boards and put the old boards in. And as I remember, they actually worked fine. Okay. I replaced them. And that was the stage where I would just replace boards just to put new boards in, even if the old boards worked. Okay. You know, that part of my development, if you will. And it worked fine. So I played it. I played it. And I played it for like 20 or 30 minutes. And I was like, you know, I can't sell this. Nope. I can't do it. I can't do it. I see. I would like to have some software adjustments. And I think I will be talking to Scott about maybe some adjustments that can be made. but I'm not going to be selling it. Tim's going to be very disappointed in you, and another Tim. Another Tim. Oh, yes, when we get to the mail ball bag, if we can still call it that. I don't know. I don't know. Can we head-to-head pinball? Can we? You know, we didn't trademark the name. Oh, I should have said that on the air. Oh, they brought that up also. Well, if they haven't trademarked it yet, we need to get to the trademark office immediately. I know. Well, don't forget, trademarks sometimes don't carry over to some countries. Oh, that's right. Australia was a penal colony. We are such a high-class podcast, definitely. Oh, God, yeah. So Saratoga show, thoroughly thoroughbred, via the YMCA. They're still accepting games. Come on, folks, bring games. Ron's bringing one. Yeah, if I get help, if Timmy shows up like he said he would. If I have to go out there, I would bring mine. You know which one that would be. And if you bring it before Wednesday, you're in a drawing for $100 gift cards and everything else and that kind of good stuff. So unfortunately, no one's going to hear that part of it. But if you bring it – no, if you sign up before Wednesday. You can't bring it before Wednesday because I think YMCA will tell you what the hell you bring that in there for. That's later. YMCA. That should be the official music. YMCA. I think that would be a nice beginning intro. That would be a good intro. So, yeah, that'll be the Saratoga show. We also have the Buffalo show will be coming up. Yes, and we're going to have special guests on next week just to tie it in together. Gee, I wonder who that could be, being you said guests. Yeah, gee. You pretty much gave it away. But, yes, we will have guests with intimate knowledge of the Buffalo show. Yeah. You wished me something today that was very nice. Yeah, you're old. Yeah, I'm old. You're one year older. Happy birthday to Bruce. And 20 years ago today, I found out I had cancer. And that's why we don't celebrate his birthday, because that is not something worth celebrating. No. You know what you should do? You probably know whatever day you found out you were in remission And you should make that your official birthday It January 31st There you go So you should just change that That your new birthday So you won get another year older until then You say it's your birthday. I'm out there to you. So, Ron, you were at a tournament this weekend. Yes, I was. And where was this tournament at? At the world-famous Rock Fantasy, located in Middletown, New York. Dun, dun, dun. Yes, it was the Stern Star Wars launch party. What? You can't find the flyer anymore. Yes. I went in there, and I started talking to Steve Keeler, the owner of Rock Fantasy, and he was telling me, you know, I was just on Facebook, and I was looking for the flyer. You know, the flyer Stern put out that had, you know, Star Wars launch party and had all the, you know, the dates and the different locations that were having, you know, launch parties, and it was just gone. And he's like, I know I saw it there. So he calls up Stern like, there was like a flyer or something, right? And they were like, yeah, we had to take that down. Licensing issue. Marketing and licensing. I love how they didn't think about that one. He's like, are you serious? Because that was kind of a helpful flyer, you know, getting us publicity and stuff about our launch party, and you took it down. Nah. Oh, well. And they sent him one Translight. Ooh. Now, in previous launch parties, because he buys like every Stern. You would think they treat him a little better. I mean, he's gotten a – He's part of the Stern Army. Yeah, he's part of the Stern Army. He's gotten Avengers, ACDC. He got like Metallica, Batman 66. Now he's gotten Star Wars. And they used to give like multiple translates and all kinds of goodies, and it was cool. And like the first place person would get something, second place, third place, they did get nice goodies. This time they sent him a Translite, like one Translite. That was it. It's a budget constraint we can't send anymore. Oh, my. It's like, damn, I thought you guys were doing good. That's just kind of weak. Come on, sir. Come on. This guy's spending thousands of dollars buying your games. Give him some more Translites, dude. Easy. Easy. But, and here's the funny thing. here's the problem we have 0.85 right that's that's the code that has like all this like it has crashing in it but then if you go to 0.87 it has all these crazy like bug exploits where you can get like trillions of points so what to put on the game they decided to leave it at 0.85 and did a cool thing where they said like for the qualifying if you get it to crash you qualify. Wow, that's funny. I know, that was funny. It's like, if you get this thing to crash, you qualify. Well, no one got it to crash in qualifying. And the way they do it, it's like the top four scores, the highest scores, then they have like a one-game playoff on it to decide who the winner is. So when they had this one-game playoff, Mr. Steve Bowden, final bonus, he's playing it. Hi, Steve. Hi, Steve. And, of course, it's Steve because it needs to be somebody good who can take the game to its outer limits to do this bug. They've gone plaid. Some kind of bug where, if you're in victory laps and you start hyperspace multiball, something happens. Exciting. It crashed in a way I have never seen before. Typically, when you think of a game crashing, you think either it just totally locks up, the flippers go dead, thing is locked up, and you've got to reboot it. Or, like, or it just reboots itself, like a WPC reset issue. That's what you typically think of when you think of reboots. This thing, he starts hyperspace multiball. It's got the hyperspace multiball animation up on the screen. It's doing the light show. He's a multiball. All of a sudden, all the computer-controlled lights just turn off. So he's got GI. He's still playing, still power, still says hyperspace multiball, but no feature lights. Then after a couple seconds of that, the display goes out. So now that's blank. But again, still power to the flippers, still playing. And then finally, stage three, the flippers die, balls drain, the game boots back up and shows three players, because it was a four-player game, it shows three players with a score of zero for each of them. Winner. Winner. And literally they just, like, we don't even want to deal with this. they were going to play another game on Star Trek just for the hell of it to decide it, but it's like, no, we're going to do the carryover, the qualifying rules. You got to crash, you win. Congratulations. That's funny. That is freaking hilarious. Congratulations, Steve. You made it crash. Congratulations, Steve. We really need to have a smoother launch party. Yeah, everyone needs to. Everyone, I mean, we had the kiss. That gene kept just spitting it down the middle. and then he just broke entirely or he wasn't working at all so he had to finish on old kiss then you have batman 66 the one i won where it just the games went on forever to infinity and beyond then you have this one where literally the game just just totally just shits the bed so that's funny that that was funny and there's film of this good it was it was filmed uh pinwall princess got some footage i know she was trying to upload it hopefully it'll be out there but it was uh we didn't catch the whole thing but we started singing as it was rebooting to a star wars song and i don't want to spoil it but it was it was quite hilarious trust me trust me it was hilarious so where did you end up in this turn both tournaments there's two wasn't there i got 1.2 billion in star wars like the third time i played and i thought that was decent but um no There were two billion scores, six billion score by Steve Bowne, and then, of course, Tim had to get a nine billion score. So I did not. I was probably, I don't know, sixth as far as scores on the Star Wars thing, so I didn't make the top four. Shit the bed in the regular tournament again. Just played like crap. Somehow the final game I still had a shot. If I finished first or second, I could have got in. But I finished third. Sucked. I don't understand. I just usually play better there. Fail. Yeah, total fail. Same thing as with Pinberg. Games where I took last, where if I just got thirds, I probably would have made it. Had enough points. I keep doing that. It's either win or lose. First or last. Just doesn't cut it. I think Stomp was the pinnacle, and it was all downhill from there. So you had a good time. Always have a good time. I'll be there. Next week. Yeah, it's just right after I'm at the Saratoga show bringing a game, and then bringing it back, because I'm not selling it now. Then the very next day, I'm going to the summer open, the Rock Fantasy summer open. That's my schedule. That's my schedule. Schedules. And funny story for you listeners, even though I went over this whole schedule, like on last week's podcast, when Bruce was trying to schedule our guests that were going to discuss the Buffalo Pinball Open, he tells me, like, oh, I got a schedule. We're going to record Sunday. Like, Bruce, can't do that. Go into the, you know, this thing. Oh, okay. I got a schedule for the next Sunday. Like, oh, no, Bruce. Again, I'm going somewhere. This all came up on the podcast. Fail. So do you not pay attention to anything I say? Exactly. That's what I thought. So what do you got next? My tournament I went to this weekend. You had a tournament or you just went to a tournament? We had a selfie league for Rochester. Oh, selfie leagues. You guys do that too? Yeah. I'm sorry. You did a selfie league? Awesome. What was it like? We had one qualifying game, which was on Kiss, and then we have a playoff of the top people. Kathy actually made the playoffs with me. Now, last time me and Kathy played against each other, you remember what happened, don't you? You lost. I did. She beat me. you forgot all about that of course I just let that right in the past yes and you didn't try to get revenge and destroy her or anything like that revenge is a dish that is best served cold ah okay no uh so we played guess who was in the final four uh let's see Duke um North Carolina yikes oh sorry okay yourself oh damn oh damn what am I doing here I was in a group for the semi-finals with Zach, which is our famous Zach. He's been crushing lately. He, what did he do? He actually got $23 billion on Attack from Mars. But it was me, Matt, one of the Rochester local guys, really good guy, myself, and Jim Metzler, who is the vice president of Western New York Pinball League. We were in one group where Kathy was in another group with a couple other people. Kathy made it to the Final Four. Zach did not make it to the final four so actually Kathy beat Zach this time so Kathy beat a qualifier in Pinnberg and then did Zach say okay goodbye yes he almost did yeah he hung around for a little bit and then left I said I'll see you next week and he's like I'm going home so I'll see you probably two weeks that's one So I finished first Matt was second, Bob was third And Cat got fourth So good time So see, one of us One of us won something Oh bite me, bite me, whatever Whatever So now We need to, okay that's Scratched off our list because we're such a High production place We have an outline, let's see Dialed in Dialed in is still awesome I haven't heard anything. No. And in a way, it's like I like waiting because it's like I just – I'm thinking like, okay, get those protectors, those hull protectors. Yeah, get them in. Get them installed from the factory. Get all that extra Mylar that they're putting on now. Yeah, get that done. Get that done. Take your time. Take your time. Not in a hurry. Not in a hurry at all. Yeah, we'll make sure. That's kind of my attitude. So we were talking a little bit about this last week, the collusion. tournaments. The collusion thing, which I recommend you listeners to go to Tilt Forums and there's a couple of threads, just very interesting threads about not just collusion, but about the whole like losing on purpose deal and are there times it's appropriate, which according to Josh Sharp, losing on purpose can be appropriate. You may ask yourself, when is that appropriate to not give your best at all times and josh's argument is what is the goal if the goal is to win the tournament then there may be times where you will want to lose on purpose if you're in a situation where maybe you're going into your last game and if you you're already like say you're already going to go to the semi-finals but if you win this game you're going to go in this group with these players or if you lose you're going to go into this group with these players yeah we'd rather play keith Elwin and Jim Belcido and Kaylee, or would you rather play Ron, Bruce, and... Zach. No, no, no. Zach's pretty good. It doesn't matter. He's not Kaylee or Keith Elwin. Come on. Come on. I know, but I'm saying, you know, he would rather go against us. Of course he would. Of course. So, lose on purpose. So, his opinion is he would throw it possibly to... Yep. Well, not possibly. He said he would. He said he would. And he said as a tournament director, he wouldn't have any problem if one of his tournaments did that. Because it's a strategic move to try to win the tournament. That's interesting. So winning is everything. And if you go, let's see, the spirit of the Pinnberg rules is to just give your all at all times. So it's just interesting. It's just an interesting conversation. Well, people were upset. They were saying that people were sandbagging to try to get into a lower group so they'd be high in that lower group. Me, I look at it as, guess what, I'm going to play my best. If I win money, it's a bonus. If I get into finals, it's a bonus. I've been in a couple of the finals. You know, not the final finals, but I mean like in the playoffs. And I've enjoyed that, you know. But I'm going to play my best. I want to get – I want to be towards the pinnacle. I want to get to the top guys. I want to play to people who are the big boys. You know how closely I track myself. Yes. Like, did you know what you need to get? No. No. I'm trying to win, and if not win, not get zeros. Yes. My goal was to be in A or to be in B finals. Not finals, but B playoffs. My goal is to win B. I want to win B. I want to say I'm a multi-divisional champion just because it sounds cool. And can anyone else say that? Has anyone won like – here's a good question. Has anyone won, like, say, either Pinberg B and then Pinberg A or C and then B? Or even Papa. I'm just curious. Well, Escher won the kids one year. He won the juniors, yeah. Yeah, so I think you'd be the closest one. But it'd be interesting. I'd like to know if there's anybody. If any of our listeners know, I'd be interested. There's probably someone who won, like, C and then won B or something like that somewhere. So collusion is okay. No, collusion's not okay. Collusion is if you are working with other people in the group to lose. His thing was if you were yourself, just say, like, strategically, it is better to lose this match and get into a better position for the next one. But do you think – I liked Escher's father's Adams thing where, you know, we're all – Is that his name now? Poor Adam Lefkoff? He's now just Escher's dad. Escher's dad. He's just known as – I think he signed it that way. He did actually sign to Escher's dad, so that's why I went with it. So he went and said, you know, are we like doing the shoe bomber theory, where one person goes on with a shoe bomb and now everyone's got to take their shoes off, you know. Now all of us have to go by that because one group tried to play collusion, you know. Oh, the old one bad apple spoils the bunch. Yes, exactly, yeah. You know. And the thing is, I mean, supposedly, Pinnberg, they have, not only do they catch someone doing it, but they supposedly have direct evidence that other groups did do it successfully. Yeah. And they know better than we do. Yeah, of course. I guarantee they do. And there is another slight correction here. One of the major, like, brouhahas was that it wasn't announced and it wasn't in the rules. That was partially true. What happened was it was in the written rules. I guess, like, if you go up to the desk during the tournament, they have actual written rules for people who don't have smartphones, because there are people who don't have smartphones. Not everyone has a smartphone. So if you wanted to read the rules, and it was in the printed rules, and supposedly it was on the site, but then it got overwritten somehow. So that was a mess up there. So it was like kind of half in the rules, but like 99% of the players involved, they're all looking at their smartphones. So I just wanted to make that additional correction. All right, let's get off of Hindenburg. Enough. Oh, come on. Pinberg was great. It was great. And it was two shows worth of it. So let's move on. Move on. To repairs. Repairs. You can go first since you said you had a ton of repairs. This is probably all from Stomp Still. Yeah, I have repairs. I have other work. You ever have one of those days when you're doing repairs, you're doing stuff, and, like, everything works the first time? No. Me neither, but this was it. This was a watermark day. Did I say that? Watermark day. I don't even know if I said that right. What the hell did I even just say? I don't know. So – You can edit it. No, that was stupid enough. I've got to keep that in. Total stupidity must be kept in. Kept in. And that's cool, too. I'm doing better. You're doing Bruce. Metallica. Okay, Metallica kick out. Yes. What was it? You want to know what it was? Piece of something in there. It involves you. It involves me. It involves you. The original issue. Was the switch. Was the switch wasn't working. Yes. And you made an adjustment. Yes. When you bent the wire form, the switch wire form. It gets caught. You bend it so far that it actually went into the actual where the ball is. There's a tab to prevent it from going in. And you bent it beyond the point where the tab would prevent it from coming in. So it actually was in with the ball. So every time it was firing, it was hitting that, too. Oh, my. Thank God it didn't break. That's why it would come out weird directions or not come out at all. Okay. So I bent that back in position, and then it was still flaky, so I screwed where the wire is actually soldered to the switch, and it actually bent that a little bit, and now it seems to be working. Okay. So I think it may need to be resoldered. It may be like an intermittent connection with the actual tab where it's soldered. but it looks like that's where the issue was, and I found the bulb that fell out. Okay. That was cool because I had the play field up, and I'm just looking down, and there it was, like right there. Like, oh. I'm telling you, it was one of those days. Like, okay, I got that. I took the other bulb out of the other spotlight. These are the spotlights above the slingshots. These freaking bulbs, they just fall out. So screw it. I just took both of them out, and I put them in the coin box. Good boy. I'm not going to deal with them anymore. They're just going to keep falling out. Next. No fear. I haven't gotten to that yet. Fail. But I got ROMs from Scott to work on the Firepower, and he also made an adapter for me so I can burn a 2532 ROM using a 2732 pinout, if you will. The burner I have only does 2732s. It doesn't do 2532s. So he made this cool little adapter so I can burn them. Then I got a bunch of these from, like, China. off of eBay, and amazingly they worked. I put the ROMs, I burned new ROMs, changed the jumpers, put everything in, and it booted right up. Cool. Couldn't believe it. Did some testing. I played a four-player game. I couldn't get it to crash, so I'll have to keep trying to get it to crash. Okay. So that went well. Then I went over to Demoman, where I have the ROM I need to test for that in Report Pack that makes the claw actually in play again. I think I went through this last week. He's a little bit, but you can refresh people. Yeah, refresh. The problem with Demoman is when it's in a tournament and the claw is on, all anyone does is go for the quick freeze reward, because it will just give you however many locks you need to get to the next multi-ball. And it sucks. And it's always disabled at higher level events. They always have the claw disabled. But now... But it's like a cool mech. I mean, it's probably like a quarter of the frigging budget of the game. The elevator and the claw and all that stuff. So this version of the software makes it so you can do it. You pick the quick freeze. That's fine. If you try to pick it again, it just gives you super jets, which is like the most useless award of all the claw awards. Yes, it is. So I got that, and I have versions. There's versions of it for like all the versions, like the regular L4, I think it is, and the two home ROMs, like H5 and H6. I tried it. It works. I need to test it more. But the funny thing is, even through testing it, I still like it better with the claw disabled. Wow. It still plays better because it still stops the ball. It's faster. It still stops the ball. And it's funny, you know, two of the flowiest games that Williams had, both had something that would stop the ball completely. You had Demoman. And what do you think the other one is? No Fear. No. No Fear is pretty flowy. Yeah, but nothing stops the ball. It's those magnets. I told you this a few minutes ago. No, but it stops it to divert it to the other ramp, and it keeps flowing. It doesn't stop dead. It goes dong, dong, dong, dong, dong, and it drops it down into the ramp. It does sometimes. Yes, it does. Okay, let me try again. Fail. Something that really stops the flow, that just stops it dead. Mentioned it earlier. At the beginning of the show, I mentioned this game. Mid-90s Williams game. Not next gen. Gomez. Oh, Johnny Mnemonic. Johnny Mnemonic. Like, that claw is pretty fine. When you play that thing, it flows like a motherfucker. I mean, the ramps are awesome. The orbit's awesome. It just flows like crazy. And then it goes into the glove, and everything stops dead. And you've got to move the thing over. At least the claw moves relatively fast, so you don't have to spend too much time. This thing is like okay get over to the grid Get over Okay Okay release Oh I didn release quick enough Okay Come back and drop the ball That's funny. It is funny. It's literally two of the flowiest games that they had, and they had this really expensive thing they put in that just stops the ball dead. That is funny. I will gravy that. So in the midst of all this, I had, if you remember from Stomp, I was trying to get my phone to work with Tim's monitor so he could show the groupings on his monitor for an extra screen. And I couldn't get it working. And I figured it was another instance that my iPhone just doesn't work with the monitor. Well, I had an instance where I was testing something else with my main TV upstairs, and I was using my phone directly to the TV, and it wasn't working. so then I got my, like an old DVD player, put it directly to the TV, and it didn't work either. I was like, wait a minute. I swapped the HDMI cable, and guess what? It worked. It worked fine, and guess what HDMI cable I used at stop? The one that doesn't work. Oh, cute, so throw that one out. Yeah, it's a bad HDMI cable, so I threw it out. So that's another issue I actually figured out, even though it was after the fact, but it probably, all I had to do was get another frigging HDMI cable, and I would have had it working. So failure on me, and I should have done that, really, because I had an extra one. I should have at least tried that. But I think that's right when the tournament was starting, and I kind of didn't have time. It was. I kind of didn't have time to be doing this shit. And what else? Yeah, and there was other, like, TV issues that I got fixed. What about the Starz flippers? Did you actually? I didn't go through the flipper stuff yet. Okay. I did not do that. Let's see what else. The glue did not hold for Mr. Quicksilver. The pop-up ring is separated again. But I still think it's a problem. It plays fine. What did you use? The Gorilla Glue. So if anyone knows anything stronger than, like, whatever, what is the, like, strongest plastic glue or glue for plastic that exists, let us know and I'll give it a try what else did I work on I could have swore I worked on something else well other than the flash putting the old boards back in which I found immediately and actually worked and I had done some funky things with the ROMs and moving them around I think I the board I had in there was originally a jumper to be like a system 6 flash and then it was a system 4 flash somehow I remembered everything I did like 7 years ago when I got the game and was able to reverse everything and it actually worked I think that's it. And, yeah, so what I still have to go through is the no fear, which I think I know what that might be. What is it? And what's what you said, ribbon cables. Yeah, I think it is. I think the ribbon cables are bad because I remember now I had an instance where I had a problem with the World Cup soccer, and I swapped the ribbon cables with no fear, and World Cup soccer started working, but no fear actually worked also. Like I was seeing if it was a ribbon cable issue, and it was like, wow, that's weird. Okay, now this one works, but the other one works. I would think no fair wouldn't work because if it's a bad ribbon cable, but maybe it was. So that's where I'm going with that theory for now. You can get those, right? Can't you get a whole ribbon cable set? Oh, yeah, you can get a whole kit. Yeah. Okay, so that'll probably be my next step because I know I had issues with the ribbon cables in there at some point. So I'm just going to swap it out, and hopefully that will fix that problem. I need to go through the flippers of several of the Stern games just to kind of readjust them. I think that's it. Nothing else crashed, right? Other than the usual Star Trek Next Gen opto bullshit. I forgot how many balls I have, but if you turn me off and on, then I'm fine shit. That it does every once in a while. That's funny. You like that description? It got through the previous tournament, no problem, but this one, it's funny. It just loses. It doesn't know how many balls, and it'll just keep doing ball search, and it will literally put all six balls in the trough and still not work. And if you turn it off and on, then it's fine. Cute. So how does it not know how many balls it has when, obviously, it's just whatever. Whatever. Okay. So how about you? I actually purchased, a couple weeks ago, targets for my Stargazer. I saw that. They look nice. Yes, I posted them on the Facebook page, and I posted a link. But if you haven't looked on Facebook, Stern put out white targets that were square or yellow in some other games. And a guy remakes them. His website is langelius.com. It's just the plastic pieces, but if you look at the Facebook post I posted, You see what 36 years of crap does. They were smoky, yellow, yellowish brown, really disgusting. Put these in, worked great. Took me like an hour to do all 12 targets. Oh, yeah, that's painful. Yeah, but it wasn't bad. So you're able to get, because on the site it just shows translucent ones. Yeah, you get the white or yellow also. So if you look at them, that's the exact design of them or anything like that. Worked really well. I should get the yellows in anticipation of my acquiring Dragonfist, yes. Of course, yes, of course. But he does a great job, so I highly recommend him. Tell him that Slam Tilt sent you. Maybe they'll give Ron the yellow ones next time. What did you just say? I didn't even understand that. What do you mean they'll give me the yellows? I said tell him that Slam Tilt sent you, and maybe next time when Ron orders, they'll give them to him for free, his yellows. Oh, yeah, sure. Yeah. But, yeah, he did a really good job. So I was working on Stargazer. I took all the LEDs out of Stargazer. What? Ryan C. is not going to like you at all. No, he does not. Why did you do that? They were probably perfectly good LEDs. Nope. Baggy's getting fuller. Baggy's getting fuller. I did leave him in the head. How's that? Baggy is fuller, left him in the head. What? What are you saying? The baggy of extra LEDs. Oh, baggy of LEDs. Okay. But I left them in the back box. All right. So now I've got to work on, when Ron comes over, we're going to have some spinner fun. Spinners? Does it have the original spinners still in it? Yes, it does. All three. Oh. Then you're all set, man. I know, because I've still got to bend them. They flop the wrong way and everything else. Oh, they're flopping. I hate when they flop the wrong way. I know. They're a pain in the ass, too. They are. What happens is they actually, the wire form goes all the way through the spinner, and I think they kind of get bent inside in weird ways. And that's why they keep just, it's hard to get them to work right. They're droopy. Droopy. And then I have to actually raise the shoot again insert. It's got like a divot in it. Worse than the arrows on Quicksilver. It's bad because it's right in front of your flippers. so it really diverts the ball so I gotta heat it up and try to push it up a little bit and not melt the insert either yeah don't melt it like I did with insert from from oh really so I melted the one from from Paragon oh you melted it I melted it oh god good job Bruce what do you use a heat gun on too high a setting or something I only have one setting Oh, okay. So you had it a little too close, or you just kept it on too long? I kept it on for like, I only kept it on for like 10 seconds. Oh, that's too long. Yeah, that's too long. Like, whoops. That's literally too long. Like a second or two, at least when I've used my gun. I got the hot-dogging ready for the tournament. I put coin mechs in it. I got everything ready. I got it ready. Oh, here comes the go-ahead. Yeah. Hopefully coins don't get stuck in the coin mech and cause any weird behavior. Why? But the weird thing is. You like that callback? Let's see if any of our longtime listeners will get that reference. Maybe they might. But it says quarters, quarters, and then one of them says Susan B. Anthony dollar. I put another quarter one in that one in case somebody puts a coin in that one. So all three will be registered the same way. Excellent. and then the other game is gotta i had uh i had a bad light socket on my what's it called my door lights for that one and of course on the door lights they have like an independent ground that doesn't ground to the body so zach luckily had an extra socket gave it to me i popped it in tonight that's working so i just got to get a couple more coin mix than that and then that one's ready to wrap up that's the quiet one we're talking about you know the other one Yeah, the one we can't say what it is. Yeah. Yeah. And then I got to drop one off Wednesday, and I'll drop off the other one next Thursday. Excellent. I'll make fun of Mr. Webster. Check Webster. Bastarded. Okay. Yes, he is a bastard. Okay, why is he a bastard? First, he's planning his new tournament again. I got to look it up, so give me two seconds to look it up. he is doing his uh trash talker invitation oh god okay is that the one that like he said tim was in it and then he kicked him out yes yes yeah he doesn't like new york people no he doesn't he doesn't like new york people not at all but uh he picked october 7th wait a minute isn't that when stop west is occurring that was going to be occurring oh i'm hoping enough to be invited to the Trash Talker Invitational because as I pointed out to him in the past, how many New Englanders came to Stomp was like eight or nine. And how many made the Final Four? Zero. But he was in the semifinals. He was in the semifinals, but how many were in the finals? Well, none. Yes, they could not hang with us New Yorker guys, and I think they're afraid of us. So you're doing the Trash Talking. Yes, obviously. All right. They only invite one New Yorker so far. All right, and who was that? That was our own pinball princess, Steph. She won the women's tournament. She beat eight or nine women out there. She proved that New York is superior. So those four guys just want to beat up on our one New York player. So it's all New England people, but then if you're not from New England, you have to beg to get in? No, no, no, no, no. You can actually earn your way in if you win their tournaments, which unfortunately, too, have been bad times for us New Yorkers because there's been better tournaments, of course. There are better tournaments than the ones in New England? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, that can't be true. No, it is, definitely. But they just want to beat up on our one New York player and win, win, win, and run away with it all, and then they'll go, look, we're the best, yeah! Patriots win, yay! I know I've got to bust my chops now because Boston's in first right now. Tom Brady. Tom Brady's the best. Yeah. I'm the president's brother. Okay, stop, stop. That's terrible. So you're just going to keep trash-talking until they just have to invite you because of your awesome trash-talking skills? They know that already. I've proven it on 54 episodes before this, you know. Yeah, yes, you have. You are quite the trash talker. So, yeah, we'll see what they, you know, let's see who they invite. That's the key, you know, or if we earn our way in. I remember they invited Tim, and at the last second they said, no, I can't. It's kind of a dick move, in my opinion. Yeah, it was a dick move. Yeah. They're fearing the New Yorkers. Well, they definitely won't invite Tim now because he's too good. He's too good. I agree. Definitely. But the good thing is, you know, he does have good tournaments. And it's going to be a two-day tournament, actually. One tournament's on Friday and one tournament's on Saturday. So now, since he screwed me on that, I have made Stomp West is going to be November 4th, even more wintery for you guys. So wait a minute. Because he had his tournament, you're going to move yours and make it worse for everyone else that's going to your tournament? Yep. So blame Chuck Webster. Oh, blame. Okay. I was about to say, how does that? Okay. So blame, it's all Chuck Webster's fault. All Chuck Webster's fault. You bastard. His games are kicking out of shape, by the way. They are kicking out of shape. I will give him that. He does the full restorations. I just do the basic cleaning. He does the full, like, they look brand new type deal. He's got one in the rotisserie right now. Looking good. Eat Bowl Deluxe. Three Ball. Chin Ball. Oh, God. That'll never end, will it? The Chin Ball reference. Never. It's always classic, though. It's always classic. all right so harrison ford oh god did you know we had a lot of people saying that that was harrison ford now yeah we also have people saying it's not harrison ford i know but okay to those people like what is wrong with you people it is effing harrison ford on the flyer it has a photograph it's an actual picture of harrison ford next to the game with harrison ford in the in the translate the side art of the head is harrison ford how is it not harrison ford people are saying it's not harrison ford they're saying it's like marty mcfly from no because that's obviously not marty mcfly well at least in the flyer it wasn't at least you know because it was gary stern and some boy yeah i don't remember who it was but it was on the play field it's not him either or the back glass it doesn't look remotely like the glass no because he couldn't get his likeness, but he is in the damn game. Period. Stop it, folks. It is Harrison Ford. Okay, enough of that. Damn. I'm being nuts here. I don't know. What is Steve Daniels talking about when he came out with Saul Harrison? Yes, it is. We got a lot of compliments on Steve Daniels. Yes. We did, and Steve did a great job. Vermont champion. He's a state champion, baby. I know. We can't say that. Why? Neither of us are state champion. He's from New England. Oh, so you're saying it's easier to win there. Of course. Okay. Got so many little states up there, driving distance between each one. That's true. They are pretty small. They are. They're pretty small states. You can just, like, drive through Rhode Island in 20 minutes. Yeah. On a good day of traffic, though. 95 can get backed up. Maine has a decent size. Oh, Maine's big, yes. Yeah. For the, I don't know, 1,000 people live there? whatever it is something like that yeah I think they have more moose up there than they do people yeah probably more moose more moose oh the New England listeners are not going to be happy with us we pissed off another group of people right we're trying to trash talk we're trying to get in the you know the spirit of the trash talker invitation that's what it's about right that's what it's all about that's what it's all about so we do need more movie hints we had a couple suggestions we have a suggestion that's in the the mail ball bag but we were talking to other people I asked Zach. Zach said he doesn't care about movies. Because he doesn't watch movies. He doesn't listen to music. I don't know what he does. Does he read? I don't know. But the funniest one we talked about was the Nicolas Cage movies. And I said, bad or good? And you turned to me and said, there's only bad. Well, no. I said we should only do bad. Why would we do Raising Arizona? Well, no. I actually kind of like that. Why would I do that? Or The Rock. I actually kind of like that movie. You want to do the one where he's getting attacked by bees? Oh, bees! Oh, come on! Yes. Where they switch faces. Oh, my God. Who ever thought of that stupid movie? That was a hit. That was a hit movie, dude. That was John Woo. That was a hit. Yeah. Sorry. I saw that in the theater, baby. Face off. God. Even though their, you know, physiques, body types are completely different somehow. Dude, come on. It wasn't entertaining watching Nicolas Cage play John Travolta and John Travolta play Nicolas Cage. I kind of liked it. Oh, okay. But we do need new movies. If not, we'll have to go with Ron's hated favorite, Marvel. But let's get to the mail ball bag. Oh, my. Trademarked by Slam Tilt Podcast. Yes, trademarked. Just trademarked it right now. Yes. Okay, so. Oh, Jesus Christ. I didn't even read this one. Got one from Scott. But this was in reference to the person we talked about last week who was – he was trying to sell – he was selling a game, but the buyer was trying to get money off saying that he'd have to put LEDs in the game and so he should sell it to him for less. And he couldn't talk about it right now because he was having a party for his dialed-in LE and his Star Wars that just arrived. Yeah, and Scott said, the seller of the machine that's negotiating should tell the buyer to fuck off. Yep. So there you go. Oh, let's see. Matthew Carlson. Not Harrison Ford. Not Harrison Ford. Another, it's Harrison Ford, people. Yes, it is. Stop it. It's Harrison Ford. Jesus Christ. I don't believe I'm having this conversation. Just don't realize how, you know. Email from Tim Peters. Yes, hi, Tim. To Bruce and Ron. I know it's been a while, almost a month now, since STOMP took place, but this is the first chance I've had to sit down and say thanks for putting it on. I had a lot of fun playing in it. You guys did a great job running the tournament and fixing issues with games when they popped up. The free swag, shirts, hats, et cetera, and food provided by Ron's parents was an unexpected bonus as well. as well as Bruce doing a little supercharger celebration dance on the getaway. Thank you. You were dancing? I always dance. I can't tell how nice it was. I can't tell you how nice it was to drive 20 minutes instead of two and a half hours to play a bunch of well-maintained games. Where'd he go? Where'd he go? He went to my place. Come on. Oh, damn it. I'm looking forward to the next tournament at Level Zero Arcade. Woo-hoo. Remember the name. Whenever that's going to happen, stop to Electric Boogaloo. The Search for Sulu. Oh, my. That's a great title. That is definitely the title for Stop 2. Well, I already said Stop 2, Electric Boogaloo. No, but the other. The Search for Sulu. Yes, I like that. I like that. The Saratoga Pinball Show is coming up. And, Ron, if you're okay with the idea, I can transport at least one additional game with my pickup truck for you. I understand if you say no, but I thought it off as I'm not far away and don't mind. That's okay. That's okay. You can bring two games. You can bring firepower. I'm bringing the one game. I'm good. I'm good. Well, here comes this fun part. Oh, God. Also, in the last podcast, Ron mentioned putting William's Flash up for sale. Let's make a deal. I'm keeping the Flash. I had a change of heart. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Well, now you know the reverse of it now. The reverse. I see you a couple weeks ago where somebody said he was going to sell something to you and then turned the page. Yeah, yeah, I was like, I actually wasn't, I didn't know you were serious type thing. And, like, I really like the game. I don't want to sell it. So, yeah, I guess it's better than selling it and realizing, oh, shit, you know, I really like that game. One last thing. In one of the other recent episodes, you said you were looking for new movie titles for show names. And it's just Friday the 13th. If you include the spinoff and the terrible remake, that'll chew up at least 12 episodes until you can get some better ideas. I'd rather go Marvel. I'm surprised there was never a pinball machine for this series considering its popularity back in the 80s. I don't know. That would have been an interesting pinball machine with a picture of Jason on the back glass chopping someone's head off. That's probably good, though, as Scott Lee Premier would have, yeah, that's right, would have probably put it out and it would have been awful anyway. Yes, it would have. Oh, that's right, because they did do, yeah, that's right. They did Nightmare on Elm Street. Yeah, and it was pretty bad. Yeah. It sucked really, really bad. It did. And he had a link here that I'm trying to open because it looks like it's a YouTube video. It's a video, too. Oh, Freddy vs. Jason. Okay. Yeah, yeah. It was bad. No, it's classic. It's Freddy vs. Jason. No, you just don't like horror movies. Come on. So thanks, Tim. 23 more minutes left to that Starz pinball backlash goes bye-bye. I just got the notice. from our last week. Yes. So we have, would you buy that? And we have two listings. Now the funny thing is I had one of them on my list already. Oh, okay. Oh, Jesus. Because it's super flight. Yeah, and a ridiculous picture that's there. Yeah. Yeah another one of that crap Okay so yeah what the where is the code Ticket number is 152 I'm sure female listeners will love this one. Yeah, she's – Sex sells again as they have some female – Bending over the machine. The machine, you know, to take away from the fact that it's a $1,500 super flight. Yeah. That you wouldn't pay $1,500 for. I wouldn't pay $15 for. Oh, that's right. You hate this game. I hate this fucking turd. That's why it was on my list. So that's that one. And then we have... It's her with the Superflight and a cheesy jukebox. Oh, is it... Same girl, but with both pieces. Is it the same girl? Instant Game Room. Oh, okay. Which is ticket number 152-624-272-763. And we would not buy that. No. No. God, no. No, no. And that's from Lucas. Lucas Nelson. Yes, it was. Thank you, Lucas. So then the last one, hot off the presses, just came in like 15 minutes ago. Yeah, and actually it's a pretty good suggestion. I will give her credit for this one. Yes, I like the suggestion. So it's from the Pinball Princess. And it says, subject, ignore lame suggestion below. Do Pink Panther movies. Do Pink Panther movies. So it says, hi, guys. Last episode, you discussed the rules of Cheetah. And I think I can add exactly one iota of knowledge. The three bank of targets in front of the horseshoe, the one with the grid thing below it, can light the spinners. the inserts with the pretty stars, but not the game stars, that are in front of it, of the spinners. If you look at the 3x4 target grid, you'll notice the colors there correspond with said starry spinner inserts. Hitting the drop targets such that you get all three colors in a row lights a spinner. I did not know that. See, that makes the game even more awesome. That you can't get. Shut up. I'm not fully cognizant of the details of how this works. I'm no Tim Sexton when it comes to parsing out rule sets, especially as I'm playing, but it seems as though getting the spinner to light is a matter of timing it, such that the three in a row is completed, kind of like Spectrum, but completely not like Spectrum at all once you get past the... We didn't tell the people about the Spectrum story. I thought we did. No, we did not. You interrupted my reading. Kind of like the Spectrum, but completely not like Spectrum at all once you get past the timing drop spin. Yes, when we were at Pinberg, Steph comes running up to our table, me, Bruce, and Zach, and says, I found it. I found the game I want for my first game. We're like, oh, cool. You're like, great. What is it? What is it? And she's there, Spectrum. And you should have seen, me and Bruce are like, ugh. And Zach is like, I have one. Want to buy it? We're like, no. Oh, God, don't do it. No, not a Spectrum. Turns out she loves masterminds. She does. It's like, well, if you love masterminds, it is a valley, you know. She had me look at a sea witch this week, but I can't get in touch with the people. They don't answer the phone. Oh, is that the, like, $1,200 one? It is. The picture with the glass on and it has so much dirt on it, I can't really tell if it's got wear or not. Okay. Let's see. Continuing on with the email. I know I've swept the targets and gotten 100,000. That would be one of the red star banks at the horseshoe. I'm not sure if the lit stars reset after the three bank is downed either. I think they do, or perhaps the one cheetah video I can find has it on harder settings. I will have to do some field research at Rock Fantasy and get back to you on the details. Also, if you're still looking for the movie series, Beatles movies maybe? They only did like... Four, or five. Five. Five? Okay, wait a minute. Okay. Hard Day's Night. Yep. Help. Yellow Submarine. Yep. Magical Mystery Tour, which is more of a TV movie. Yep. I think there's one more. Well, they did Let It Be, which was also a TV movie, but it was released as a theatrical. Okay. There you go. That's five. So I know there's not a lot, but the other option that keeps popping up in my head is Land Before Time, because there are like a million of those things, but I'm sure that doesn't fit what you're looking for at all. Fail. Keeping it three, player 31915. P.S. I'm sitting here considering the implications of one iota as written above. Typically, iota seems to not have a discrete quantity, so to imply it as a count noun sounds kind of odd. But language is fluid, so I'm sticking with my non-standard usage. Lift trim. Lift trim. Beatles, five movies. There you go. So, but I do like her suggestion for Pink Panther. Let's see how many there are. Let's see how many while we're doing it right now. Okay, I see if I can name them. Because there was one without Peter Sellers in it. The bad one? No, I mean in the middle of it. No, I mean earlier. Oh. There's Pink Panther, the original. There's A Shot in the Dark, which is kind of the first real Inspector Clouseau movie. There's a third one that did not have Peter Sellers in it, but it had Inspector Clouseau. I don't know the title. You'd have to find that one. Then there's Return of the Pink Panther, Trail of the Pink Panther, my personal favorite. Revenge of the Pink Panther. Then he died. Then you had the, oh, no, I say I screwed up. It wasn't Trailers. Pink Panther strikes again. Then Revenge of the Pink Panther. Then Trail of the Pink Panther. Then Curse of the Pink Panther. And then there was the one. Son of the Pink Panther. Son of the Pink Panther. Romance of the Pink Panther. Yeah, and there was another one, too, with the French guy or another guy. There was one with Steve Martin in it, too. Oh, that was a newer one. Yeah, that was like the – but you've got to find – there was one that was like – Okay, here we go. Okay. The Pink Panther. All right. A Shot in the Dark. Inspector Clouseau. That's the one. Okay. Return of the Pink Panther. Then Pink Panther strikes again. Then Revenge of the Pink Panther. That's the last one. With him. Then he's dead. Then he dies. And they used unseen stuff from – Yeah. Portrayal of the Pink Panther. Yeah. Then there's Curse of the Pink Panther with Roger Moore. Yeah, well, no. Yes, I'm looking right at it. Yes, he's at the end. It's the one where they have the, I think it's the American equivalent. And they're searching for him. And at the end, it turns out he had plastic surgery. Peter Sells had plastic surgery and is now Roger Moore, which was funny. Then Son of the Pink Panther. And then the reboots from Steve Martin. Okay, Son of the Pink Panther was the one with the French guy. And then, yeah. Yeah, we could do that. I've seen most of them. Okay, so we have our... And that will keep us busy. So thank you, Steph. I think we have our list. And thanks for the rules help on Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones, ooh. Because I asked her to give me a tutorial because I have no idea what I'm doing in that game. Yeah, I had to play that three times this weekend. Then I put up a score, and they let you put, like, ten-character names, so I put, Thanks, Steph. This is my... That's funny. So that's the mail ball bag. Oh, my. I think we've emptied the mail ball bag, yep. Yes, we did. And we've almost been kind of a would you buy that sketch. I have a couple more if you want to go through them. All right, all right, we'll go for that. We would not buy the first two. Nope, we would not. We would not, but go for it. Ticket number 192-243-383-715. Gottlieb Car Hop. The game lost to Stefan. Yep. It's a Gottlieb System 3, which has a, it's like a, what do you call those kind of restaurants? Bar, drive-in. They call them drive-in? It's basically where the women on roller skates serve the food, and the woman on the back glass, her name is Steph. That's why she likes it. Yeah. I think you need that. I wouldn't buy this one for $19, let alone $1,900. Yeah, no. There's 21 watching, but there's 21 people on crack. Yes. I'm one of them. Stop watching these things. I have to watch them for the show. That's the only reason why. Okay. I'll forgive you. Okay. Ticket number 172-796-725-901. What's with these overpriced early solid state games? I couldn't tell you, but this one's a peach. I mean, great. Williams Grand Lizard Pinball Machine. I like it. Good game. I always like Grand Lizard. Let's see. Again, glass on. Always good. Taking pictures of the glass, especially when you have fluorescent lights right over it that go right through the play field so you can't see anything. Good job. It's hiding the play field. It's hiding the wear on the circle, but I can see the wear on the other inserts. Good. That's good. I mean it's not a lot of wear it's not that bad you haven't seen the upper playfield yet I must have missed the upper playfield because I'm at the cabinet now now we've got some close ups upper playfield lots of wear up by the inserts ok so why is this worth $1800 it's not I would not buy this sorry it's overpriced who's looking at this one three watching so two people on crack and bruce are watching yes well let's see oh we're being kind of unfair here but let's read the description game works the way it should okay play field has where okay people it's w-e-a-r i can't tell you how many times i've seen this spelled wrong it's not w-a-r-e it is w-e-a-r The play field has wear and has been touched up years ago. Really? On top of the play field. Great players game. I love that one. Great players game. Per eBay bullshit rules, I can't give you my number to call and get questions answered about the game and shipping. Okay. But the game is listed on Chicago Craigslist with my number. All right. He gives his number. Okay. So you could call him and ask him why it's that expensive. This next one is for Jeff Teolis and yourself, actually, and myself. Jeff Teolis, Pinball Profile. Pinball Profile. Hi, Jeff. Hi, Jeff. Hi, Zach. We mentioned him. Steve Bowden, final bonus. Tim Sexton. Yes, he's the winner. Tim. Tim Balls. Tim Balls. Hopefully, if Tim comes over Friday, we can stream. On our channel or on his? Well, it'd have to be on his, but I want to work. I want to make sure ours is working right where it actually is forwarding to his because it still wasn't working last night when I tried it. Fail. And with him here, we could get that working. I figure we could do an old stern, do like a stargazer and a quicksilver. Although, did I say that already, or was that before we went on air? Before we went on air. Okay. So we got another one. Yeah. All right. 112, 512. 977-040. This one's for Jeff. It's the guy that Tim got himself banned from his Twitter. Yes, he did. By insinuating that he has sex with animals, I believe. Yes, it was. Thank you, Tim. It's Nugent. Nugent Pinball Machine. Classic. Stern Nugent. And it's rare. Rare, rare. It's rare. Okay, I'm going to look it up and see how many they made and see how rare it is. You can go through the description. Up for your consideration is your chance to get a rare and hard to find vintage 1978 Nugent pinball machine by Stern with a Weekend Warrior album cover theme on the back glass. The back glass does have some flaking on the paint on the back side. Oh, I hate when my back side flakes. This has been electrically reconditioned, 100% working. Cabinet's all original paint with the playfield all original. It was only cleaned and new rubber and balls were installed. This comes with the original owner's manual, electronic diagrams, and other paperwork. All the coin slots work and come with the cabinet key and coin door key. Very important. This will also come with the original Nugent pinball flyer and a wood frame. There is some wear and scuffs from Asian use on one of the score lights. Oh, and one of the score lights flicker. This is a must-see in person for the true condition. Any questions or concerns, please email us. We're here to help. New pictures will be coming as soon as possible. $2,500. $2,500 for a new game. The worst thing about this game is it has, like, the space sounds from Meteor. No, it doesn't. No, it doesn't. It's an MPU-100. It has the... The worst stern sounds ever. It's horrible sounds. It's horrible. Horrible sounds. Well, let's go to the backless. How many did they make? How many did they make? Oh, sorry. They made 2,671, which ain't that much, but it's not usually rare. Let's see what it looks like. Back glass and play feels not bad. Come on, I've got to give, you know. No, play feels really nice, actually. Play feels really nice. The original spinner looks like with the TNT on it. I mean, it's got the bizarre artwork where Nugent actually looks like a woman. Yes. If you look at it. I was confused when I saw it the first time. I was like, is that supposed to be Nugent? Yeah, but it looks like a female. The targets, it's got the original drop targets in there. Kudos. They didn't swap those out. Yes, so it's Nugent, so it's $2,500. No. No. Fail. No. What would you say? Between $500 and $800? Oh, you would give it $1,200? You would give it $1,200? It's condition. This one's actually pretty nice to play field. I've seen them worn in the middle. All right. They do wear in the middle pretty good. This one's actually pretty nice. You'd pay more than I would. I wouldn't pay $1,200. No, I would not pay, but I'm saying condition-wise, it's in nice shape. Scott's going, no! I can see Scott right now. Scott, I passed on three of them for $300 each right after I passed on a $250 Dragon Fist. Who designed it? Mike Kubin. Or Cuban. He did... Did he do Stargazer? He did Sea Witch. Oh. Oh, he did Memory Lane. I like that game, too. I like that game, too. Stingray. So he did... Oh, he did... Oh, boy. Is this true? Him and Ed Sabula have joint credit on Andromeda, which was the final game at Pembroke. You're not supposed to talk about Pembroke. No. And it's got him as the sole designer of Cyclops. Oh, boy. Oh, my. He did Electronimo, too. Man, he did a lot of good. What happened? After Stern, it looks like after he left Stern, he went to Andromeda, and then that was it. He never did anything again. That's kind of a shame. There's a lot of good designs here. Oh, face of the earth. Yeah. Invite him to Expo. If anyone from the Expo committee is listening. They'll tell me, he's there every year, you idiot. He's dead. He's dead, Jim. Or he could be dead. He could be dead. Could be dead. Hopefully not. Hopefully not. But it is 40 years almost. It is. And Nugent's a good game. I like Nugent. Yeah. So what else we got? I think that's it. Are we done? I think we're past the four-year-old limit. Oh, yeah, yimmit. Yimmit, yimmit, yimmit. Limit. So it's time to pay some bills. www.pinballlifter.com. Get your lifter, helper, tilters, mods, wheels. Check out the website. Bye, bye, bye. Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye. The next day, you can go to Rock Fantasy and play in the Rock Fantasy Summer Open. Why are they doing it Sunday this year? Yeah, they've been doing a lot of stuff Sunday. At least Jerry gets to go now. Yeah. Oh, Jerry. Jerry Saab finally gets to go because he usually works Saturday, so he's happy it's on Sunday. Yes. And then the next weekend, if you still haven't had enough pinball after the Saratoga Show, after the Summer Open, you get the Buffalo Open. Yes, you do. Which is three days of Pinball action. Yep, 18th, 19th, and 20th. Before that, the week before, the 13th also, Nick Lane's having a tournament, a Game On. If you go to Facebook, the Game On tournament, inaugural tournament, he's going to have four games pump and dump for four hours on the 13th also. And the Thursday before the Buffalo Open, there's the tournament that Steve Daniels is running, which I can't think of the name of. The BPO Pre-Three Strikes Tournament. Yeah, which will be at the same location, which we didn't mention, which is at Pocketeer. Be there or be square. Come early and play in more tournaments. They just got an alien. They just got an alien. Maybe the head will work. Maybe. That would be cool. Because supposedly that's a co-thing. I would love to see that thing work. They streamed it last night.
