## Transcript

All get around, he's on the rebound, hear the sound of our buddy, oh lordy, it's Orby, pinball now to rejoice, he's tugging pinball, craft beer and coffee, miffed with syrup and honey, he wants to laugh with his family in a random tangent, stories of his boys, he's on the poor man's pod network, We're going to get more listeners for the Pinball Nerds Podcast. Coming to you from beautiful River Hibbert, Nova Scotia. Welcome back, Pinball Nerds, to episode 595 of your fifth favorite pinball podcast. My name's Orbital Albert, and on today's episode, we're going to be talking about the total eclipse of my heart. That's right. Ninja Eclipse won all of our hearts by selling out. This little bad boy is the train that could. Chugga-chugga-choo-choo. Let's go. Turner Pinball. Cheers to Chris Turner and the whole team over there. They sold out of all 100 pins, so that's great. You know, that's probably the easier part is selling out. The harder part is, of course, we all know pinball is hard. Manufacturing them, getting them sent out. I'm very excited for the journey that will be that. I want to talk a little bit more about what I think Turner Pinball has done correct, and while also celebrating what they did right, I also want to congratulate my buddy Dave. We'll talk about that in a moment. I also want to send out a huge congrats to Tom, our fearless leader at Fundy Flippers in New Brunswick there. He did something very special. He did something really cool, something really special at our last tournament. I'm going to save the tournament talk until near the end of the show. Also, congratulating Dave. That's part of that whole tournament talk. And, Dave, well, okay, I'll just let the cat out of the bag. The Dave I'm talking about, no, it's not the moustached wonder himself, the one and only walrus that is the hatted genius of Dave Fix of American Pinball. No, that's not who I'm talking about. I am talking about Dave my buddy Dave of Dave you would know him as David Dennis of Silver Ball Chronicles David Dennis did not one but two things that I got to congratulate actually maybe even three I'll say three things I got to congratulate him on and Tom did one big thing I got to congratulate him on maybe two maybe two little things will slip in there but I'm going to save the tournament talk to the end I want to talk about Ninja Eclipse and I also want to talk just maybe just for one little tiny second. I don't like talking too much about politics. I'll save this to right before the tournament talk, right before the tournament talk. I want to talk about Donald getting trumped. Now, you know me, I don't talk a lot about politics on here. Like some people are, you know, asexual and maybe they're not into getting it on very much. Other people are apolitical and I attempt to be apolitical. Once in a while I get washed up in the seas of wonder that are the waves of wild whatever's happening at the time. But I will say this. This is not a political podcast, but I've got to talk about Donald getting trumped. I have to. I have to, at least briefly. I'm going to keep it under a minute, but I know most of y'all don't want to hear the response. I was trying to think, well, what should I leave to the end? Should it be Donald getting trumped, or should I leave the tournament talk to the end? I thought, well, people seem to hate these topics almost equally. So let me just start by talking about before we even talk about Ninja Clips, the real thing that I wanted to talk about, I just heard Chris of Canada's Pinball Podcast saying that John Borg himself, shout out John, love you bro, love the BMXing, broke my arm into 14, maybe 15 spots with BMXing. So I don't love BMXing that much. That was the day I retired from at least doing tricks on a BMX bike. Even though I wouldn't be opposed to riding, cruising one around, even in a skate park, probably not doing any tricks maybe just a little something something anyways John Borg love you bro I've owned Guardians of the Galaxy the most expensive pin I've ever owned still haven't bought my first new in box we are definitely dealing with though a lot of issues with X-Men so I wanted that to be my first new in box I might just hold off a mini tiny second and not take a big dent into my second mortgage to get Xfinn because they're working on shooter issues, right? The ball is not, the auto plunger is, it's not super rad. Now, do I blame this on Jack? No, for two reasons. Two reasons. Number one, he's not a mechanical engineer, okay? So I don't even think he would have anything to do with making the shooter plunger. He, you know, he would say he wants one in the game or not, I guess. Do not all new Sterns just come with an auto-plunger? I can't even think of one that didn't, right? I guess Stern Stars didn't. My first pen that I ever owned, Meteor, didn't. But anyways, that's the first thing. And then second of all, Gary Stern did admit that they kind of leapfrogged, and that pen, or it might have been George Gomez, I do apologize. One of them said on a podcast or an interview that X-Men, of course, was expedited and it jumped ahead of Metallica. Now, maybe that was a mistake. And it turns out, possibly it was. A, because the code wasn't that far along. B, because there was some type of music gate, even though I think we've all forgot about music gate by now. Come on, most of that music, most of them are bangers. Most of them are bangers. I could see how the one would get kind of repetitive. But it was meant to sound like 80s frickin' techno, whatever kind of, you know, Yacht Rock's back. why can't we have a more mellow pin in the typical game mode? I think we can. But I know that Jack Danger more so, maybe than any pinball designer out there, is going to be the guy who puts his nose to the grindstone and jumps in. I know he's not a mechanical engineer, but he's going to jump in and he's going to figure out a way to fix this. The other reason I don't think Jack Danger is responsible for it, like I said, was because in the first place, that wouldn't have been his job to make that. Now, I guess maybe, I don't know why it's not working. Maybe it is part of a design thing. But that probably all would have been fixed if they had stayed in the regular design queue. Now, maybe, maybe, and this would only be hearsay or a rumor, maybe, this is me just guesstimating, they did jump the queue to try to release right before Avatar. In which case, it was, I mean, kind of smart from a marketing perspective. could they have guessed ahead of time that they would have had this many people upset about kind of how shallow the code is to start and I mean really that would be maybe part of the music gate because you're hearing that one song so much because the code is so shallow and there's not a lot going on and you're kind of stuck in that bass mode often. I'm not really sure what I know is that given more time Stern will figure it out Jack will figure it out. I do feel bad for any of the newer buyers hopefully whatever they figure out to fix the issues with the auto plunge. Hopefully that is something that's easy to install at their house. Hopefully it can be fixed through code. I don't even know at this point if it can be fixed through code, but my heart goes out to Jack, the team, and everyone who's bought one so far. It sounds like other than that main issue and the code being a bit shallow, which we know they're going to fix that. We don't know for sure exactly. They're saying some of the new machines coming out are getting fixed, but anyway, the main thing that I want to talk about before going on to congratulate and talk about what I think Turner Pinball has done so well is oh my god was I going to sneak in forgiving Marty here or trying to forgive Marty let's sneak that in at the very very very end if I even remember is Marty because recently Kaneda has also and I can't bring him up and not mention this he's really gone after my buddy who I used to play the TCPL with, Jeff Teolas there. He's really gone after him. And he's really said, he's made a lot of presumptions about Marty and assumptions that I think, I don't, some of them could be right. But again, their presumptions, their assumptions, you know what they say about assuming what you do between you and me, just between you and me. Here's the thing is that I've made a decision on whether or not I want to forgive Marty and why and how. And although it's very similar to what I've said before, there's maybe a little touch I want to, there's a little, I want to expand on it a little. So if I get to that at the end, great. If not, if Draco Franchi wakes up from his nap and he says, dad, I got to go outside, then he's got to go outside. But you know, here we go, here we go, here we go. So let's just talk about it. I wanted to talk about how Kaneda had mentioned that John Borg himself had brought Beavis and Butthead. Again, this is just a rumor. Okay, this, maybe this all happened. Maybe it all happened in Minecraft. We don't know. Don't come at me. Don't come at me. Don't not invite me to a future tour. Come on. I want to go to that Stern tour. I'm excited for it. I want a pitcher with a big silver ball. Can I be the first and only pinball nerd if I do it all safe and everything, like bring a ladder and everything myself or something, or get some very tall people to prop me up on their shoulders, maybe a Jack Danger or someone? Can I do a planking pitcher on top of that silver ball at Stern? Can I do that Stern? Am I not going to be invited, or is it because of the upper decker remark? I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I apologize. Okay, I won't even ask to plank. Just invite me. But I'd like to plank. Can I plank up there? What a cool picture that would be. That would be my Facebook picture for like the next decade. Seriously, it would be so fun. But I wanted to talk about them turning down Beavis and Butthead. Because if that's true, it could be the biggest buffoonery since saying no to Back to the Future. And even if that's true, I think that one is confirmed. So I don't know how or why they would say no to Back to the Future yet do the Munsters. I don't know how they would say no to Back to the Future and do... See, I can't even remember the name of it because... I can't even remember the name of it. John Wick. See, there you go. It's not memorable. How would they do John Wick and say no to Back to the Future? Not only is one twice as nostalgic, not only does one have better staying power, but one of them, their entire demographic at least existed during that time. Now thankfully I'm such a huge Back to the Future nerd and when I say huge I mean I've literally done essays or more so to the point well I had a list. I had a list of over 100 issues or problems that I had with Back to the Future 2. I watched it well over 50 times. I had a whole list that I always added new ones to. I loved watching it. It was my go-to-sleep show before I had the office, back when you had to have a VCR and actually put a videotape in to watch something. When I was going to bed, I was, you know, this is like, I don't know, grade 9 or grade 10, I would put on a VCR. I think DVDs existed by then. I wasn't rich enough to own one. I was a poor man right here on the Poor Man's Tribe Network. I also want to apologize to everybody. I did plan on talking more about the whole homebrew area. I was purposefully vague about the homebrew area when I talked about it in previous shows due to the fact that I knew or at least I thought that I would have a better opportunity to have someone on the show who was there to talk about all the homebrews. So I did want to congratulate all the homebrewers. I think I mentioned the best in show won the best in show. I mentioned what a great job, you know, Saw did and the whole development team. And Glenn, the skateboarder, of course, who did the theme song you probably just heard, he did a great job doing all the sound and the custom call outs and the music integration in Saw which also did very well and people are ranting and raving about and cheers to all the homebrewers because frankly I talked about for years saying that I would start to do a Harry Potter not even really a homebrew but just like a re-theme and I never ended up doing it and it's so hard and the hardest part is even maybe just starting there's hundreds of us in the homebrew, you know, who kind of like are, we're on the edge of homebrew. We celebrate homebrew. We love homebrew. We love everything Aaron does over there at Fast Pinball and helping the homebrewers. Cheers to you. Loved watching all of his Facebook posts, him on the way to Expo and coming back. I should have probably asked Aaron. See, I should have had Aaron on. But Aaron, by the way, you have an open invitation. If you're listening, you can come on the show, my dude. I should have had someone on. I was planning on maybe having Glenn or possibly Joe Chervino, the dote, the Pimbley Jenner himself, I reached out to both of them in the next few days after that, I think they were both A, very busy and both of them said they didn't get to go out and explore much of Expo as they wanted to, so they thought maybe someone else would be better at doing it, and then before I could talk to any of the other people I wanted to reach out to, I was thinking maybe Colin from the Kineticist sorry Colin, I probably should have reached out to you I know Debra Tallman who ran the flip out tournament she had said she was going to kind of be my pen turn and report back from other tournaments I also assumed she was freaking exhausted from like you know running the tournament so I didn't want to bug her I figured Colin was exhausted I should have reached out but what happened is after I talked to Joe and Glenn the skateboarder I lost my voice and I got sick so I figured now it's so late I probably can't even do a show about Expo you guys are probably burned out from it and while I was having that thought thankfully to save the day Foghorn Leghorn and Craft Roof Sally put out their Expo episode right here on the Poor Men's Pinball Network. Go back and listen to that if you didn't, but I'm sure most of you nerds already did. That was their last episode right here on the network. And so thankfully they did that, and then between Triple Drain and so many of the other pinball podcasters putting out their content, thankfully they did that, and we got to hear kind of like experience Expo through their eyes. I know Retro Ralph, Don's Pinball Podcast, I watched Kaneda's live stream. I went back and watched Kerry Hardy's live stream when he walked around. That was awesome. Thank you, Kerry Hardy, for that. There was just so many people put out so much awesome content, and I appreciate that. Even though I really wanted to be there more than anything, do you know why still, what are we, November 5th, November 6th, November 7th? I still haven't got my passport. I still haven't got it. Of course, the day before I'm supposed to leave for Expo, I get my Escher Lefkoff and Orby Escher and Orby selfie buttons that I got it done at D82 at Pinmasters Of course those come in in time Now I just got to stare at this box of 100 pinball buttons that I can never bring to Expo Well I guess I can bring next year Anyways that being said let go back to what I was talking about with Stern passing on Beavis and Butthead. I think Beavis and Butthead would have been a great option for multiple reasons. Because A, unlike, and I love you Back to the Future, but unlike Back to the Future, which is not at all in the zeitgeist, I think there was even a Back to the Future cartoon that was kind of big to the early 2000s, but I haven't seen a revamp of a cartoon. There was even a Broadway show until like 10 years ago. I don't think that's happening anymore. I could be wrong. I'm not up to date on my Broadway, my off-Broadway, my off-off-off-Broadway, okay? But as far as I know, that's not happening right now. So even though it's still wildly popular and people love Back to the Future, It's not really currently in the zeitgeist, whereas Back to the Future, people are wildly nostalgic for. There's probably almost as many Back to the Future fans as there is, sorry, almost as many Beavis and Butthead fans as there is Back to the Future. But the difference is Beavis and Butthead are still relevant. Not only have they had a couple movies over the past few years, of course they had, well, not past few years, I guess Beavis and Butthead Takeover America was more early 2000s as well, right? but the TV show has been a massive hit and believe it or not my wife loves watching it she thinks it's so funny when they're making fun of people which it is it's intelligent comedy believe it or not you think it's all like fart jokes and poopoo jokes and whatever but much like Family Guy much like The Simpsons Beavis and Butthead is really like it's actually it's kind of like it is poop and fart jokes but they're intelligently done Futurama, you know what I mean? There is a lot of this lowbrow humor, but it's encased in freaking super, I almost swore, I've been trying not to swear, guys. I'm trying to cut down on that. I'm trying to make it more family friendly so y'all can listen in the minivan with your kids if you want to, or you could be at work and you wouldn't get in trouble if your boss walked by or something. I'm trying to be more family friendly. It's happening. And I've had no brewskis. If I've had too many brewskis, sometimes I let loose with the sailor mouth. the sailor mouth that now that I live in Nova Scotia on the island doesn't mean you have to sound like a pirate even though did you guys know that that whole uh that treasure island that show happens here what is it called what with the skull island I should know about this I live in Nova Scotia I'm in so much trouble I'll google it by the end but let's get back to Beavis and Butthead I think Stern if you're listening and John Borg if it is true the rumor is true that you want Beavis and Butthead. Keep pushing for it. You don't have to like clip them but you can say or be or be agreed. I can tell you this Bruce and Ron from Slam Tilt they freaking agree. They've been shouting this off the rooftops. I'm pretty sure Bruce and Ron once a year they get this billboard by Stern and they rent it and they actually have like Stern we need Beavis and Butthead pinball meow rape meow and it says that uh no i'm just kidding but ron ron and bruce y'all want to split on a billboard for stern we'll do it let's raise money for it we're always raising money for like homeless people uh poor people oh cancer wow wow wow let's raise money for a billboard about beavers and butthead pinball that's what really matters in life okay totally kidding don if you're listening that was a joke uh anyways no to everybody else no that i'm just joking obviously can two things be true? Can we donate to those issues that are very important? And also, can we get a Beavis and Butthead pinball? Billboard, no. We don't need that. But if you're listening stern, are you listening? The famous Drew quote, are you listening stern? If you're listening, please, Lord God, let's have a Beavis and Butthead. First of all, not only did I not only want, did I say not only twice in a row in one sentence? Why don't you have another gummy orbs? Come on. Beavis and Butthead, I saw every single solitary episode. I went back and watched every single solitary episode. They were very, very rewatchable, perhaps even more so than The Office, perhaps more so than Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, The Simpsons even maybe. Not more than The Treehouse of Horror. Come on, we've got to watch those. Every single October I watch those with my family. Love doing it. Guys, I'm very parched. I need a drink. Can I get a drink? Will you guys talk amongst yourselves? Can that happen? Let's just pretend that I'm talking from really far away and I'm grabbing a drink quickly. Oh my god. Here's some coffee. Okay. I'm not even going to put sugar. Sorry about that, guys. I'm sorry. Go ahead. Give me one last star today. I don't get a red star at the end of the day. Sorry. That's the thing is I did everything to be prepared for this. Somewhat prepared. No notes. I do have notes sometimes. Especially if I'm doing a top ten list, I try to have notes. I probably should have notes for every episode. Every episode would be better that way. But I knew I only had a short period of time when both Draco Franchi and Luna Elwyn would both be sleeping and I could record. And that time is now. But I should have made myself a fresh coffee. Instead, I'm going to drink Angry Alpaca coffee. It's that good. You can drink it black. as I mentioned well my wife dropped target Danielle actually got what we believe was walking pneumonia I ended up getting sick my lungs are still a little bit congested my throat's still a little bit sore so I should have thought to have a drink before I went to record but please Stern if you're listening let's do Beavis and Butthead if you're not going to do Futurama if you're not going to redo The Simpsons I want to see The Simpsons I don't want to see you take The Old Simpsons and redo it even though I do like the old one. I respect the old one. At the very least we have to redo the code for the old one but if not can we get a completely new layout for The Simpsons. Rick and Morty's already been done. I would have kind of preferred in retrospect. I mean the artwork on Rick and Morty's incredible. From what I understand the code is kind of a little bit shallow and some of the shots are like almost too tight. You've got to tune it in. Like tune in Tokyo, like just perfectly zoom it in, right? But I would love Rick and Morty. I would love Rick and Morty. And I love comic books. Y'all know I'm a comics collector. I still have X-Men 49, by the way. Y'all know how much I love Marvel. I even love DC. I'm a big DC simp, okay? But yeah, we've had a lot of comic book and superhero pinball machines. We have. We have had no sports pinball machines. What's going on? And we haven't had any comedy. Where is the comedy pinball machines? Yes, you can do Deadpool and try to make it slightly funnier. But what I would rather is, well, Rick and Morty. We have Rick and Morty. That's comedy. But I want to see a newer modern Stern or even JJP where it's funny. You know what I mean? We don't take each other so serious, right? Why so serious? You can do superheroes that are funny. you can do it but we've had a lot of superheroes I'm advocating every show that I remember for a new sports pin it's been way too long I'm sorry Stern you're right about just about everything in pinball you've done a lot for pinball but Stern are you listening it's time for a sports pinball machine and okay there is no wait not space hunt I hear I do hear people saying from Expo that that was actually a decent game so that's kind of cool but there were super hoops is it super hoops No, there was another game. There's another basketball game that came out. Was it Super Hoops? There's some other basketball game that came out. But, like, I want a, imagine, what is it, the Mets versus the Dodgers. I want a Mets versus Dodgers. I want a Shohei Otani. A Shohei Otani front and center, you know, or any type of NBA. Like, it can be, like, a LeBron. You know, you need someone. You need someone on it. It can't just be a generic basketball, shoot-em basketball game. It can't be a generic baseball game, hit the baseball. I think it needs to be either all the baseball teams, which would be very hard to get, or just two baseball teams, which would be much easier. And then from the two baseball teams, you only need to license one, maybe two players, depending on how big they are. It's the same with if you did a football pin, which I think football and basketball are harder sellers. I think they're up there. The easiest would be soccer, because soccer is played worldwide. and baseball because it's massive in America. It's still massive, right? You could do football or basketball. Probably basketball would be up there. And I've gone off topic. What else would you expect? Stern, let's do Beavis and Butthead. The world's ready for it. It would be funny. The artwork would be cool. If it's true what Kaneda was saying, that Mike Judge is totally into it, that means you're going to get tons of all of assets. You might even get custom colloads from Beavis and Butthead. They used to be relevant. they're still relevant they're funny they're edgy they are a little bit edgy but they're not more edgy than shooting your dog in the effing head point blank or whatever whatever the hell they did in John Wick right they're not more edgy than that I'm sorry they're not and you guys have a Deadpool pin did you see the last Deadpool it was almost too much for me I can handle blood and gore okay I'm not a prude but wow that last Deadpool if you have not seen it the first 30 seconds like maybe just maybe don't watch the first 30 seconds there is more like killing and blood and gore and craziness that happens in the first 30 seconds of deadpool than you know times a hundred of anything bad that you would ever see in beefs and butthead there are two or three you know they probably have two or three jokes from yes the 1990s that nowadays probably wouldn't go over very well we just avoid those ones right but it's not as edgy as rick and morty at all if you watch if you watch a new season of Beavis and Butthead probably nothing in that's going to offend you at all unless you like love T-Swift and they're making fun of Taylor Swift but I mean if you're watching Rick and Morty and they're talking about see I'm trying to keep this friendly but they're talking about gutters if you know you know they're talking about gutters like the gutters in your house that collect rainwater but it wasn't talking about collecting rainwater you know you know what to talk about like these type of shows they're even with me having a 16 year old and a 19 year old it's uncomfortable watching those shows especially if my wife is in the room so like Rick and Morty is the one show that like I usually watch with my sons without without mom in the room and if there's certain uncomfortable areas we either skip it or we talk about it or we don't so there you go anyways yeah Rick and Morty you can watch you know or sorry Beavis and Butthead you can watch generally with the whole family. I'd say like probably 12 and over, maybe younger. And maybe there's, I've only watched maybe three or four of the newer episodes. Maybe they get more risque. But like, honestly, at this point, Family Guy, to me, Family Guy, probably Futurama. Oh my God, who is calling on the phone? Oh, Lordy. It's my dad. it's my dad. I will call him back. I knew I should have told my dad. My dad's the one person who might have called while I was recording. Should have told him about that. But listen, there's my case. I really think that Beavis and Butthead are funny. You're going to get people in their 60s who watch them. You're going to get people in their 50s. You're going to get people like myself, of course, your primary demographic from 40 to 50. But I don't even know, I don't even think there's not one of my friends out of like my 30 or 40, like best, especially male friends in high school. I think every one of them watched it every one of them, I'm serious so you're going to have almost and then you're going to have probably almost 35 to 55, all those dudes watched it then you're going to have I get not a ton of women from back then watched it even though I think some did but even nowadays, like my wife loves it she thinks it's hilarious, right? so it's funny, it's interesting think of all the music you could have The music soundtracks would be unlimited for Beavis and Butthead, much like with Tony Hawk, another argument for Tony Hawk being a great game. And shout out to the guy, if I didn't do it enough on the last show, shout out to the guy who did do the Tony Hawk homebrew. That looked incredible. That just blew my mind away. That had the most unique mechs I've seen on a homebrew all at once. I loved how that skateboard not only did a 360 spin vertical or horizontal, I guess, even with the ground. but then it also articulated like left and right, I guess, or like, like it flipped and it spun, if that makes sense. So it was doing a 360 kickflip. You could actually do a 360 kickflip. There's other spinners that do one or the other, but I haven't seen too many that do both. I could be wrong. I could be wrong, but let's, I'm advocating. I want Beavis and Butthead all the way. I'm in. Let's do it. I think it could work. I'm not going to do the accent today. My throat hurts. my voice hurts already. It would probably just murder it. I couldn't finish congratulating Turner Pinball. So here's some things. I am going to talk later maybe a little bit about Marty and why I'm trying my hardest to forgive him and how I'm doing that and why I think maybe more people in pinball should possibly hopefully maybe try. But for now, I want to start by saying some different things are happening. Number one, Chris Turner admitted that the money is staying in a separate account and I believe he said he's willing to show the receipts on it. Second of all, you're only paying a deposit. You're not paying up front until you're able to actually get your machine. That's probably the biggest thing. That's probably the biggest thing. When Haggis was getting people to like trying to persuade them to pay for the entire thing up front, that's when the warning flag should be raised by everybody. And although I do believe still strongly that it's better to play the machine before you pay. In some instances where it's going to sell out like this, that's just not a possibility. Did all 100 people who buy a Ninja Eclipse, did they play it at Expo or TPF or one of these other pinball places? Possibly. But did all 100 of them... All 100 of them certainly didn't play it ahead of time. However, most people who bought one are in the know and heard other people's responses where they said, you know what, it shot pretty well. you know what, now that they've fixed the cab, it looks totally normal. You know what, this is better, this is good, this is good. And then we followed Chris Turner, and he's been very upfront. Now, Damien from Haggis was very, it seemed, and I still think to this day for the most part, was very truthful when he started the company. Both Haggis and Chris Turner both have, I don't think for one second there's anything deceptive about Chris Turner. Damien maybe a little bit more so now that we learning more but I think the real difference is that at no point and no time does Chris Turner want your full payment until he going to deliver it to you I seen him ask for nobody for payment full so far, and I haven't heard of that. And I'm happy about that. And I think if someone did offer to do it, it would be because they trust him so much. And here's the thing. I don't think there's a black and white rule. I don't think you can say never, ever, ever put a penny down on any new boutique company on their first time because if those 150 or 200 people who bought America's Most Haunted hadn't done that for Spooky Pinball we wouldn't have whatever 12 13 awesome spooky well they're not all awesome they're definitely not all awesome spooky I love you spooky but they're not all awesome but Spooky Pinball would not exist if there was not those first people who believed in them and even the second and third pin you don't know and if those people didn't believe in them so but I'm hoping that and I think what spooky does most of the times they just require your deposit until your pinball machine's ready. And when a pinball company does that and they don't require the payment in full until the actual point at which you're getting it, that makes me feel more comfortable about it. And also the fact that if something happens in the meantime that you can't afford the full pinball machine, you can just sell your deposit or sell your spot. And if it's non-refundable and it's non-transferable, then I just wouldn't do it unless you knew 100% you believed in the company and they'd been around a long time. And yeah, they are probably like spooky level or better. And please, companies, don't make it non-refundable and non-transferable. That's just crazy. That is just bad customer service. But as long as it's transferable, you might lose a little bit of money if it's non-refundable. Here's what I'm saying. Play before you pay whenever possible. In the case of, say, Ninja Eclipse, where it's going to possibly sell out, if everything you've heard about it sounds great, and you know you don't actually have to pay in full, I guess I should say play before you pay in full is what I should say. It doesn't sound as nice. It doesn't really roll off the tongue. Not really rolling up the rim there with that one, if you know what I'm saying, my Scottish friends. so congratulations to Turner Pinball I think they've done it picture perfect I think Turner Pinball has watched and listened to the community very well they've interacted very well Chris Turner listened to what everybody said and took our constructive criticism and did good with it I still I still am maybe not as positive as everybody else seems to be about Turner Pinball in that will they be able to produce them at the cost that they said in time for them to make, like, can they produce them? Can they produce them on time? And can they come in under budget? Because if they come in underwater on this one, they'll have to sell more pinball machines on number two, right? And what I do like is the price is significantly less. And I think that and the fact that they're only doing 100, if the price was even $500 to $1,000 more, this would be a different story. Turner Pinball would never probably ever sell out. If not, it would take six more, nine more months, even a year. If Turner Pinball didn't limit it to 100, they wouldn't have sold out. Their next pin, they can maybe go to 150 or 200 if they get a banging. And I mean like a good, good, good thing, maybe 200. But Turner Pinball, please, grow organically. Don't overpromise. Always underpromise and over exceed. Overdeliver, overdeliver. coffee so good coffee should be so good you could drink it black even if you prefer it with a little bit of cream and a little bit of sugar you should still be okay with having it black that's how you know you have good coffee but this is not a coffee podcast let's talk a little bit more about pinball so congratulations to chris turner i honestly like i don't want to say like oh it gets the orby stamp of approval. But like, honestly, especially because would I be comfortable giving a deposit at this point? Me personally, no. A, because I haven't played it. That's my fault. Chris Turner's brought it lots of places. That's my fault that I didn't submit all my paperwork on time to get my passport. It's actually the Canadian government's fault that they didn't get it to me in a timely fashion like they promised on their website. But it's also my fault for expecting that the government would do one thing they promised on time, because I'm an idiot to think the government would actually follow through on something in a timely fashion. So who knows? Who knows more at fault? Probably, much like many things in life, we want to blame, much like even the election, we want to say one side is right and the other is wrong, and the real truth is somewhere in between, where, you know, anyways, I'm not going to be talking about politics on this show or any other show except for Donald that's right Donald Garrison he trumped him on his own self so when I said Donald trumped himself he really did Donald did trump himself Mr. Donald Garrison of Don's Pinball Podcast I thought when he took two pinball machines with identical layouts spooky pinballs barbecue no no no no no wait wait wait that's AP spooky pinballs well they're both kind of about barbecue. Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And Looney Tunes with identical layouts, although different rules, which is great. And, you know, different rules and different artwork, certainly. Very different artwork. One of them is grilling up people and the other one is cute little fuzzy animals. Okay. That's all, folks. I thought that that was the craziest thing I've ever seen. But he trumped it. He trumped it. He pulled out the trump card. It's like he was playing Euchre all over again. Donald Garrison himself trumped his own self. He has an X-Men LE beside a premium X-Men. Give me a break. That's so crazy, Donald. You trumped yourself. But I'm not going to talk about politics. All I'm going to say is that if the team you wanted to win didn't win, I'm sorry. Sucks. Move on. Today's a new day. Today's the first day of the rest of your life. Four years from now, you have a chance. And if the team that you wanted to win won, don't be prideful about it. realize it literally like it's like 52% to 48 or something. So like, right now, half of America is really hurting. The other half is cheering. Pride comes before the fall. Don't you know, by remorse can also still come. I'm not going to lean either way left or right. So I've said many times on here, I am a political but I will say, my heart goes out to everybody who is upset who was who was just fully, you know, excited about having the first female president, that would be rad. also having the first, well, she's not white, so I mean, Barack Obama was the first black president. She would have been the first mixed-race, I guess, president that was a female. It just would have been really cool. It would have been really cool. I think she would have done a great job. I am neither. In fact, I'm probably going to vote for the right in this upcoming Nova Scotia election. They just announced, I could go NDP as well. I'm definitely not going liberal, I'll tell you that. But who knows? Who knows? I don't know. This is not a political podcast. That is to say, when I said Donald got trumped, I was not talking about politics. Because I've said many times, I absolutely love Donald Trump as a TV show host. For years and years and years, I would get together and make a celebration, make a party, watch it with my friends, watch it with my family, even drop target Danielle and I years after that ended. We'd get together and watch The Apprentice. I went to business school. I took marketing. Of course I love watching, and I'm a reality TV show junkie. I used to write about it, like when I was on Squidoo. I used to write about The Apprentice. I even wrote about another reality TV show, probably the most viral anything's ever got of mine, even more so than my TV show that I had, The Bruce Brothers, on Rogers TV in London. I did a post predicting the winners of MTV's The Challenge, which is another reality TV show I couldn't get enough of, and I had parties and got together and we watched it all together and stuff. Kind of lame, I know, kind of nerdy, but what do you expect from Orby? And I predicted all of the winners of the challenge and it ended up being the number one link and for like 72 hours leading into the final episode of the challenge, if you type that into Google, I was the number one thread. So I got somewhere around 300,000 impressions, maybe 270,000 impressions, views if you will. You don't know if all 270,000 people read your whole article, but at least got eyes on it. That's more so than I would get in pinball podcasting in 20 years, probably. Well, that's not entirely true. I think I actually did hit 250,000 listens. Approximately, I didn't go back and look at every single episode. I just know approximately how many people listen to each episode. By the way, thank you to everybody who listened to my top 10 rock bands that I'd love to see. We've had now a third Metallica band or iteration of the machine. Before, we have a fourth Metallica, and I love John Borg, and I mildly like Metallica sometimes when I'm drinking or while I'm playing the game. It certainly makes me like them. Same with Iron Maiden. I would never go just like put on Iron Maiden on a Friday night, but I'll jam out to some Iron Maiden if I'm playing pinball and I'm getting close to the wizard mode or I'm having a really good game or having a great time, right? So it's just Aerosmith, nah. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. Never happening. not going to cap, never happening ever, ever, ever in my life never going to jam to Aerosmith because I'm crying for you baby wow I can't even sing well when my voice is doing good so definitely not now, I apologize let's get back into it, what were we talking about we were talking about Beavis and Butthead Stern are you listening, let's do that then we chatted all about how Turner Pinball I think they've done it literally 100% right we talked about Donald Garrison shout out to him that was another thing not only did I miss out on getting to meet Drew and Ian and all the Glenn the Skateboarder and all the awesome tribes people Rachel Risto I've already met but she was so rad I'd love to meet her again give her a big hug play her in pinball again and let her destroy me probably and who do you guys think won we're going to get into that in a second but who do you guys think won myself or David Dennis at this last tournament I'm about to tell you about. Who do you think won? You guys think about it in your head right now, and I'll come back to you with it. But Turner Pinball, I think, did everything right, and I think they've kind of set up the example of how to do it right. I mean, now to be fair, Turner Pinball was kind of following the other company that did almost everything right, other than not getting Jennifer Connelly. Jennifer Connelly was arguably the most important, if not the second most important. Okay, David Bowie, maybe the most important. But pretty much right up there with my man Bowie. Okay. Jennifer Connelly, my ex-girlfriend. Come on. No, okay. That one might not be true. That one could be a Canadian fairy tale. I am going to talk more to my sisters. I'm going back to Ontario for the Ontario Open. If you are a London, Ontario pinball nerd, holler at me. I'm going to be going to Beer Town on November 28th at 6 p.m. in London, Ontario. and having some beers, then going over to the arcade with the world's shittiest two pinball machines. Are you listening, Palladium? Come on, fix your machines across the road. There's an arcade there that's run by another company at Masonville Mall, but we're going to go over there. If you guys want to hang out and you live in the southwestern Ontario area, I'm going to be going there right before Maple Pinball on November 29th. And if you haven't signed up for Maple Pinball, I don't know if they're sold out, but you should do that. You should do that. Speak of Maple Pinball, Jeff Teolis, I did want to just briefly talk about the whole, and if you're too butthurt about the election or too pumped up about the election to hear me talk about Haggis more, go ahead and tune out. Because I'm only going to talk about Haggis quickly and then talk about my tournament and we're done. But I wanted to say this. Kaneda and I have been frenemies for a very long time, even though most recently I think he has said that we're no longer even friends, we're just enemies. But then I think he kind of took that back, and I've popped in his live chat a couple times. We haven't talked. Nate and I have not talked now in probably about seven months personally at all. Like, we used to talk on Messenger. I know he has my cell phone number. We don't talk that way at all. We never have. But we have talked on the phone, I think, through Skype and maybe even through Facebook Messenger. We have talked a couple times, but both of those times, like, it was either me interviewing him or him interviewing me. That's the only times we've talked on the phone. But we have had a fairly long, meaningful relationship, I would say, through Facebook Messenger for years. And we got into it earlier this year. And at this point, we just talk publicly or not at all. And I actually think that's better for our relationship. It keeps us on like a private, you know, I'm not going to say anything too harsh publicly because then, you know, that makes me look like a bigger tool bag than I already am. and he probably isn't going to come at me too hard and say some of the mean rude stuff he said privately, publicly, or else he's going to get freaking scorched, right? So I'm pretty sure that if both of us showed our DMs to people, which we wouldn't do, I don't think, I think we still have enough mutual respect not to do that, but I think if we did that, we'd both probably get slayed a little bit. Not that either of us has done, I'm not trying to click bait or say that either of us has said anything that bad that it's cancelable. I'm just saying sometimes when you're joking around or when you get really mad at each other, you say some pretty harsh, dark, rude shit to each other, and that stuff is better to be kept private. So now that we can only talk publicly, we're neither nor good buddies anymore. We're kind of taking a hands-off approach. I wouldn't say we're close anymore. We're friends. We're more acquaintances now. But maybe that's better, because maybe when I talk about a situation like this with Haggis, I can just be open and honest. And although I am friendly with Jeff Teolis, I've never called Jeff on the phone. I guess Jeff called me on the phone when him and Marty called me on the phone for the final round. But I just wanted to put to bed where I stand with Marty and Haggis, and I guess kind of sort of with Jeff since Chris was calling Jeff out. I think Chris was calling out Jeff rather unfairly. I think for him to call out Marty is somewhat fair as long as he's not making assumptions. And I think he's made a lot of assumptions. here's my thought process over having a couple months to think about this I have met and hung out with Marty in real life we actually were in line I think for the same pin or maybe the pin beside each other for the intergalactic pinball tournament which is held each year at Pemberger was held bring back the intergalactic papa can we do that? that would be nice but Marty was there and I got to meet him I got a selfie with him I got to chat with him and then I think I might have talked to him briefly He was playing in finals with my buddy Joe Stanzik. Shout out, happy birthday. Happy belated birthday to Joe Stanzik by the way Oh and happy birthday to Crappier Sally right here on the Poor Man Tribe Network I mentioned them early Go listen to their Expo Excerpts on the last episode But, oh my God, now I've completely forgot what I was talking about. What an idiot. Jesus, I don't want to have to re-record this episode. But, okay, I was talking about Marty. I was talking about Marty. So, I did get to be on their show, and so I don't want to pretend like I don't have a relationship, but Marty and I don't talk at all on Messenger. I don't have a cell phone. I talked in his live stream lots when he used to do live streaming on Twitch, and I've talked to him that way a little bit, and I'm sure online we've commented on each other's birthday and stuff, but what I'm getting at is I don't really have a Paris social relationship with Marty. I have a real-life relationship with Jeff T. Hollis. So when I hear Chris Kaneda, Chris Kouros of Canada's Pinball Podcast, speaking so negatively of Jeff and making assumptions about Jeff and how Jeff should have done more, it really frustrates me. At the same time, when I listened to the episode with Jeff and Ryan Cause, I did feel like Jeff should have maybe or could have done a better job addressing it and saying, you know what, all those times that I had Marty on my show with the final round, maybe I should have done a little bit better job. Keep in mind, Marty's his good buddy. But maybe Jeff should have tried to have done a little better job holding Marty accountable for Haggis. Maybe that is true. But at the same time, I think that it's hugely presumptuous. We can live in a world where two things are both true. Chris Kaneda can be being extra spicy and extra rude and extra mean, more so than he needs to be. and unkind. Maybe Damien said it because I think 99% of the, we know without a doubt, we know what we know without a doubt is that Damien was in the wrong and Damien was being deceitful and Damien was being purposely maliciously rude, rude, mean, and unkind at least the entire last year. At least the entire last year before they claimed bankruptcy, Damien was being unkind, rude, untruthful. We know these things to be true. What we don't know is how much of that was shared with Marty. And here's what makes the difference to me. Let's say six months before, let's say right before Haggis did the restructuring. If Marty Robbins is having a conversation with his boss, keep in mind his boss, this is his livelihood. And he's saying to Damien, hold on one second here, guys. Sorry. If he's saying to Damien, if Marty is saying, and I'm going to be careful how I word this, this is all in Minecraft, of course if marty is saying i'm not even gonna try i want to try an aussie accent i'm not gonna do it if marty is saying in text or through emails or on the phone or in person if marty is saying things like damien i think we just need to give everybody back their deposits and admit we're not going to be able to make these unfortunately due to a number of circumstances blah blah blah covid blah blah blah ordering blah blah blah this that the other the playfields whatever whatever excuses there are if damien says listen let's just if he says to damien listen let's just cut our losses let's give everybody back their their refunds let's apologize to everybody let's finish everybody that we can that we've started to build their machines if we can finish their machines let's finish building them let's cut our losses look maybe you lost a little bit of money maybe you can't pay me for the last few weeks whatever like and I don't even know if Marty needs to say that maybe you can't pay me he doesn't need to say that but we my point is behind closed doors we have no clue maybe Marty was saying listen these are my friends these are my buddies you know like half the people who bought them in australia i know i played tournaments with them please i don't want the maybe marty was saying like i'll work 18 hours a day to get every one of these shipped out please damien like like you know maybe marty was going out of his way and i'd like to think that from what i know of marty maybe marty was going out of his way to make everybody whole and damien was 100 just lying to him saying oh yeah we will oh yeah and just stringing him along and then just close it and and he didn't know about it at least till the restructuring. It's harder to argue since the restructuring that Marty had no clue. That being said, Marty was, I mean, he was in a very, he was between a rock and a hard place. Literally, okay, not literally, but figuratively, I guess maybe literally if the rock is, if the rock is that hardened, unkind SOB Damien, right? If he's between that and the rock that is Australia, right? He's kind of stuck in this world where he's like, Damien's being a doof, and I know Damien's being untruthful and I don't think all these pins are going to go out, but my paycheck comes from here. My job is to market. A part of Marty's job was marketing, communications, all that kind of stuff, right? Marty's job wasn't supposed to be like manufacturing, I don't believe. I don't believe he was supposed to be like actually physically building them, but I think he was near the end. So my point is, because I don't know, Marty is either a savior and he was working his butt off to make sure every pinball nerd who bought any anything from haggis whether it be centaur or um fathom or fathom revisited uh or kelts or whatever it is if marty was going out of his way working crazy amount of hours working his butt off trying to make sure that every person who spent a penny at haggis got their money's worth and that could be the case then i need to and I want to forgive Marty because he did nothing wrong. But if Marty, if texts come out, if emails come out, if video comes out or voice captures or answering machines come out where Marty's like purposely being deceptive, then obviously we have a reason to be upset with Marty. But at this point, because we just don't know, all I have to go on is everything I've heard from Jeff Teolis, which is all positive, pretty much, everything I've heard from Ryan C. And Ryan C. and Marty had head-to-head pinball and I listened to thousands of hours of their content over years, and I just think they're pretty freaking honest dudes. They're almost honest to a fault. So I have to believe that the souring of the milk that was in the baked goods of Haggis was not Marty. I think it was Damien. Now, I could be wrong. I could be wrong. I could be completely wrong. But I think that Kaneda is completely wrong, assuming that Marty knew more than he did, and also assuming that he was able to vocalize that. I don't think he was able to vocalize it. So I don't want to talk about Haggis anymore. All I wanted to say was just to give my true, honest thoughts and feelings are that I don't know, and until I do know, for now I'm forgiving Marty. Am I ready to hear him come on a pinball podcast and not be super... Like, if he does come on a show, he at the very least should be super humble and super apologetic, almost to the point of, like, I would seemingly think he's almost in tears. like, wow, so many of my friends and family members lost their shirt on this. Like even like with, you know, with Zach many losing 70 K and just all these other people who lost tens of thousands of dollars who bought one, two or three pins and we're waiting for them. Um, you know, most people, they just lost their deposits and that's still horrible as well. But for me personally, for me to move on with my life, I'm not going to take the Canadian route and be negative, be a negative Nancy or a Debbie Downey downer and think, Oh, think the worst of Marty. Like he knew I'm going to think the best of Marty and assume, because this is a guy that I've heard him on podcasts from, I've met him in real life, I just don't think Marty maliciously would tell people to keep putting money. I think if anything, Marty was the one pushing for Damien to admit the restructuring so that people had their warning sign. I think that's when a lot of people were like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. At this point, you definitely don't put a penny into it. I think if anything, Marty was pushing for that and that saved hundreds, maybe not hundreds, but a couple, you know, dozens of people minimum from investing in Centaur because Marty said, hey, we got to be open and honest, Damien. And that's what I like to think of it as. And even though I'm friends with Jeff, I'm not going to go bug Jeff and ruin our relationship by asking Jeff, well, is this true? Because first of all, Jeff might not know. Second of all, he's not going to tell me, nor should he. And so for Canadian to go after Jeff, I think that's 100% wrong. For him to go after Marty, I can understand that a little. Would I have liked to have heard Jeff be a little more sympathetic, seemingly, on the last show? Yes. A little more apologetic? Of course. That being said, I think that also Jeff is getting unwanted hate. So that's causing him to be a little bit more defensive about it. Which I can understand, because he's getting all this unwanted hate where he's like, look, I definitely don't think Jeff knew all about what was going on over there. Like, it's on the opposite side of the world. I don't know how much Marty was allowed to or wanted to or chose to share with Jeff, nor do I even really care. What I care about is that I think when Jeff was promoting Deep Root, Jeff, like many of us, were hoping Deep Root was real and would put out a game. And that didn't happen. And I know Jeff lost money on that. And I think that Jeff also, whenever he's helped American Pinball, or whenever he's helped out Stern, okay, whenever he's helped out any of these pinball companies, I believe that he has good intentions. And I think intentions are everything. And my expectation as a listener to Jeff's shows, whether it be Pinball Profile or the final round, my expectation is that he has good intentions. And I think his intentions are good. His intentions are usually to make us laugh. Okay? Usually to do, like, that game where, you know, they kill off people. That's so funny. And I do want to hear from Marty in the future. I hope when Marty gets the opportunity to talk with Jeff in the future, I hope that Marty comes out and is super-duper humble about it, super kind about it. And, yeah, I don't think I want to see Marty join another pinball company, maybe ever again, or at least for a long, long, long time. I wouldn't mind hearing from him. I mean, he was on, you know, the final round for years. Before that, I listened to almost every episode of Head to Head once I got into pinball, maybe now nine years ago, ten years ago almost. I have my David Fix times two, guys. I've been into pinball for 10 years. It's awesome. Anyways, pinball nerds, how long are we in here? Oh, my God, we're at 55 minutes. Let me just, first of all, I've got to congratulate David Dennis. I got to play his very first game of Jaws with him at Flippin's Arcade in Fredericton. If you guys are anywhere near Fredericton, New Brunswick, check out Flippin's Arcade. Awesome craft beer menu, like really fair prices, really close to a Mr. Beast Burger, really close to two other pizza places. Shout out to Luna Pizza. The pizza there was not only priced really well for a gigantic slice and a pop, I think it was like seven bucks. So, but anyways, shout out to Dylan, everyone who worked at the arcade, the gentleman who worked at the bartender, everyone I played in the tournament with, Joe Salvaggi, my buddy who listens to the show. He's been on the show a few times. His daughter Katrina was there. She played well. It was nice to see her. there was tons of people there I hadn't seen in a while. I hadn't seen David Dennis in a year and a half at a show, I think. Or at least a year, it seems like. He also, congratulations, on his very first game of Jaws. I thought, oh, this is his first game of Jaws. I've been playing Jaws for years. Not years, it feels like years. But nine months, ten months. I'll smoke him. He beat me. He destroyed me. He got double my score. I think he got 80 million. I got 40. So shout out to David Dennis. He also gave me a free Silver Ball Chronicles t-shirt. So shout out. I think I'm about halfway through the newest episode. Go listen to some Silver Ball Chronicles. Get some tasty, you know, maybe skip the bingo episode. But all the other episodes are worthwhile. And I also wanted to shout out Tom, our New Brunswick tournament leader, the gentleman who submits to IFPA for us and plans all the tournaments. He won. And he not only won, but I wanted to double congratulate him because he also got out the most players I think have ever been New Brunswick or tied to equal the most numbers, 28 players came out. I got to go to finals. I lost in finals. I ended up getting eighth place. I did horrible in my final finals game. Got last in that one. I could have finished sixth, but I ended up getting eighth. Or I could have finished fifth, sorry. But you know what, guys? I had a great time at that tournament. Make sure that... Oh, next year, by the way, Tom also is going to be taking a break from doing tournaments in Fredericton and Moncton. He's just going to do the St. John ones. so I might be picking up the slack and actually hosting some tournaments in Moncton. Dylan, of course, is going to start doing a monthly there in Fredericton, so I'm so excited for that. But I did manage to just barely, just barely beat out David Dennis in the tournament, but he was ahead of me for like the first hour and a half. I was like, oh no, David Dennis is going to take down the New Brunswick pinball champion. What's happening? But no, it was so nice to see David Dennis. It was nice to see Katrina or Kat. I think she goes by Kat most of the time. It was great to see Dylan. Dylan and I played an epic game on, he has a mean, and I mean, you think John Borg's old Metallicas that you get Borg'd on with the wide out left lane are bad. I was playing on the meanest Metallica ever. I got $147 million in match play. And Dylan, the owner of Dylan's Arcade, who also owns that Metallica, obviously, beat me and came back on his last ball and got to $150 million and just stopped playing. and he said that was his favorite or like his best game of tournament pinball ever. So Dylan, shout out. Thanks for saying that. That made me feel great. I also left him really cool Darth Vader as like a fun thing as a topper for his Star Wars. He has a home edition Star Wars. He could also use that, I told him, as a tip jar because it's actually a bank with like it. Actually, if you put a battery in it, Dylan, I don't know if you listen, but it does say a cool, it gives a cool like Darth Vader shout out. What else can I talk about? I think that's about it. I think that's all for today, guys. I had a great time at that tournament. Shout out to Tom, who won. Also, shout out to Tom on getting 28 people, his final tournament in Fredericton, his final tournament time as tournament director for doing provincial-wide. He'll still be in the tournament like the New Brunswick tournament guy, so we'd still submit scores, I believe, through him or like, I don't know. I don't know how it works, but I'm going to read the whole thing on becoming a tournament director, and if you live in the New Brunswick or Maritime area whatsoever, yeah, expect hopefully some fun tournaments coming from me in the future. I might do things, one or two tournaments a year, very similar to the way Tom ran them, and I might branch out and do one or two tournaments a year, slightly different, maybe like a strikes tournament, something like that, a flipper frenzy, I don't know. We'll see. Really excited for it, but I had a great time at that. Thank you so much to Rod. Rod went on, I believe, to get second. Cheers to him. Rod out of Moncton. He actually gave me a ride. shout out to him for the ride, I really appreciate it that allowed me to have a couple brew scars and it looks like Draco Franchi's waking up and is ready to go outside and go for a little walk go chase down the chickens as per usual so I will let you pinball nerds go thank you so much for everything until next time pinball nerds, say it with me remember to eat, sleep, and breathe oh ho ho be with some butthead, pinball will be cool
