## Analysis

Bug from Spooky Pinball demonstrates two new Expert Mode tutorials for Halloween and Ultraman in code update 1.05, released on the first working day of 2022. Ultraman's Expert Dada mode features an invisible enemy mechanic where players must locate and defeat Dada as he moves across the playfield and disappears. Halloween's Expert Stalker Mode is a fast-paced, risk-reward avoidance game where players collect lights in four playfield zones while dodging Michael Myers across a one-minute timer.

### Key Claims

- [HIGH] Dada Expert mode is accessed by visiting two Pigmon modes, with Dada becoming available at the scoop — _Bug demonstrating the mode unlock requirement during the Ultraman tutorial_
- [HIGH] Dada will likely be moved to the mode select menu in a future update, locked until players beat two other modes — _Bug explaining future plans: 'In the future or similar, the future, we will likely put Dada in the mode select menu, and we will lock him until you've beaten those other two modes'_
- [HIGH] Stalker Mode features an entirely different rule set than Ultraman's modes and represents the first time both games have completely different mode rules — _Bug: 'It'll be the first time in both the games that the rules in the mode are just entirely different'_
- [HIGH] Stalker Mode uses a four-quadrant playfield system with different scoring areas (head, pumpkin/tombstone, asylum, house) and a one-minute timer — _Bug's detailed description of Stalker Mode mechanics before gameplay demonstration_
- [HIGH] Stalker Mode requires players to avoid Michael Myers while collecting lights in areas to build massive jackpots, with successful area collection providing 5 million points — _Bug demonstrating the mode and noting: 'It's 5 million points for doing so' after collecting house area lights_
- [HIGH] Dada's invisibility mechanic is inspired by the Ultraman episode featuring the character, where Dada disappears and reappears during fights — _Bug: 'Dada goes invisible all the time so he can fight people and beat up Ultraman. So he disappears and reappears'_
- [HIGH] Each time Dada moves to a new location in his Expert mode, he deals damage to Ultraman; the mode is won by fully depleting Dada's health — _Bug gameplay and narration: 'Every single time Dada moves places, he will do damage to Ultraman'_
- [HIGH] Stalker Mode's expert difficulty is challenging enough that even the developer requires 'cheating' to complete the mode while simultaneously explaining it — _Bug's acknowledgment during first gameplay pass: 'It's an expert-level difficulty mode. It's tough to get through and explain at the same time'_

## Transcript

Hey everybody, it's Bug from Spooky Pinball here, and today we're going to be going over the new Expert Modes for both Halloween and Ultraman. It's the first day of 2022, we hope everybody had a great holiday break. We know you guys have been taking a very well-deserved break, but during that we've been working our absolute hardest to get these two new modes to you. So today we're going to take a quick preview at them, and then we'll let you guys get playing. So we're going to start with Ultraman, and the new Expert Villain is Dada. He is on the side of the cabinet. It's one of my personal favorite episodes, and I'm really excited that we got it incorporated into the game. So the way that you'll get to Dada for now is that you start the game you're playing. If you visit two Pigmon modes, so at the mode select menu, you visit two of those modes, and Dada will be lit at the scoop. So I'm going to quick run through just two of those modes, and then we'll come back right at the start of the Dada mode so you guys can see that. Okay, so we have beaten two of the Pigmon monster battle modes here. You just have to visit them, but if you beat them, that's good too, I mean. So as long as you visit two of them, you will light Dada at the scoop. You can see that Dada's lit at the scoop when it's blinking blue. Currently, after you've visited two of the Pigmon monster battles, it'll blink blue. When you shoot the scoop, it'll automatically start the mode. In the future, we will likely put Dada in the mode select menu, and we will lock him until you've beaten those other two modes. We kind of wanted to give it a shot this way first and see what people thought of it. So we're gonna roll with that now, but he will likely be in the mode select in the future. So we're gonna shoot the scoop to start Dada. So it says watch for flashing blue light to reveal Dada. So we want to pay close attention to the play field for the flashing blue light. It's at the left ramp. Okay, so you want to pay attention to that because it's only gonna reveal it for a brief amount of time and then it's hidden. Everything in the play field will go white and you won't be able to see where it is. He's still in the same spot. So if you're familiar with the episode, Dada goes invisible all the time so he can fight people and beat up Ultraman. So he disappears and reappears. Kyle gives me a call out letting me know he's about to move. Okay, so he's moved to the middle playfield on that upper left target. Every single time Dada moves places, he will do damage to Ultraman. So you don't want to let him move too much because obviously it will kill Ultraman over time. So as Dada moves, we're going to want to find him. So he's about to move. Okay, he's in the top right spinner in the upper plate. So we're going to try and get up there real quick before he moves again. And we'll catch him, and then we'll start beating him up. So here we go. Uh-oh, I missed. All right, so we found Dada. I'm just going to let this fall down because my shots to beat Dada up are on the base plate field. So when I shoot these, that's going to do damage to Dada now that I've revealed him. He's no longer invisible. So we'll shoot there. Oof, airball. Shoot there. Get up the center rim So again each of these shots is doing damage to Dada Don't tilt out. All right. So after he's only visible for a certain amount of time, and then we're going to light these green shots, which is any spot we can hold the ball for a lock shot. So let's throw it in one of them. And when you do lock the ball at one of these shots, it will do damage to Dada as well, but he's going to disappear again. So pay attention for that blue light. Okay, it's on the upper playfield on the drop target. We really wanted to make sure that we used all of the spots on the game that we could for this mode to really have Dada just be hiding anywhere. I only got a certain amount of time. No, no, don't move! Oh, okay. So he's still at the upper playfield target. the if being randomized makes it pretty fun because it might actually end up in the same spot sometimes which is fun so i'm trying to get up there but i'm uh i'm bricking terribly the easiest shot in the game i swear all right let's hold the ball and wait for him all right perfect easy target six on the base play field we got him all right so he's revealed again we can start doing damage as long as I hit good shots. One. So when Kyle says that one hurt, that means he's at 50% health. So 40%, 30%. We got two more shots for Dada to be killed. Go, go. Oh, he's going to disappear on me. That's a bummer. One more. Yes! Perfect, okay. So, I lock it on the last shot. Alright, left stand-up target there. He's only got 10 health left, which means one damage is left. Alright, perfect. He's revealed. We're gonna take away that last bit of his health. Just like that. Alright. So that means Dada's health is depleted. We will shoot the scoop to kill him. Hopefully. I'm gonna have gotten through this whole mode, then it's gonna be impossible for me to shoot the scoop. There we go. Alright. Dada's dead. That is the Expert Dada mode in Ultraman. Hope you guys enjoyed it. Let's go look at Halloween now. Alright, So Halloween. The expert mode for Halloween is called Stalker Mode. It has an entirely different rule set than Ultraman does. It'll be the first time in both games that the rules in the mode are just entirely different. They don't have anything to do with each other. So the way you get to the Stalker Mode right now is you visit two of the Jack-o'-lantern modes. Ideally, you beat them both as you go, but you just have to visit two of them, and then Stalker Mode is lit at the scoop. You know because the scoop light will be blinking blue In the future we will likely put the Stalker mode in the mode select menu just under expert mode and it just be locked off until you beaten two other modes So I'm going to real quick run through and beat two of my modes here, so that we can start the Stalker mode for Halloween. Alrighty, so I've beaten two of my Jack-o'-lantern modes here, which means that my pumpkin is now lit blue at the insert, so I can start the stalker mode now. Before I get into the mode, it's a very quick, fast-paced mode with a lot of things happening, so it's really hard to explain while I'm playing, so I'm going to give a brief description of the mode before we start so that hopefully it makes a little bit more sense. So basically what you'll have is the display will be split into four quadrants. The quadrants are, you have this left area, which is the head. You have this right area, which is like the pumpkin and the Judith Myers tombstone. You have the asylum area and you have the house area. Your goal is to avoid Michael Myers. You'll know where he is in the playfield because that full section of the playfield will be flashing white at you. You want to avoid that. You don't want to hit that. If you hit the area with Michael Myers in it, he will obviously start chasing you and you have to shoot a hurry up shot to escape him. So you want to avoid him, obviously. When you're in a certain area, you want to collect all the lights in that area to build an absolutely massive jackpot if you collect all the lights in that area. Michael's going to be moving from area to area, so you want to avoid him. So it's a risk reward. You can stay in that area and try and collect all your jackpots, risking the fact that Michael Myers is probably going to catch you, or I can keep trying to move from spot to spot to avoid him getting me. So it's going to make more sense when you see it now. The mode is on a one minute timer, so you're trying to avoid him for a minute. So I thought I would just give a quick explanation before we got into the mode, so that's a little easier to understand. And actually, at the start of the mode, you'll even have some rules pop up to explain it to you. Avoid flashing white lights, shoot colored lights to move Lori. You will see yourself on the display as well. If Michael catches you, shoot to hurry up to escape. So if you look on the display, I'm in the purple shot area, the pumpkin area, and Michael is in the upper right house area. So if I shoot the house, Michael will start chasing me. So let's say I move to the hedge. Okay, good thing I did, because Michael just moved to the pumpkins. So if I'm in the hedge area, if I try and collect all those green lights, I will get an absolutely massive jackpot for it. If Michael comes to my area, I have a lit hurry-up shot for 10 seconds. So I would try and get up to the house, and if you hit this hurry-up shot before your timer goes out, you escape Michael. And like I said, the jackpot values in these locations is absolutely massive. So like me beating that house, I collected all the blue lights in the house. It's 5 million points for doing so. Michael finds me. So from here we'll start playing. Unless I can't shoot that. All right so the other way so that how you kind of stay in one area trying and capitalize off of all the lights there If you just stay in one area it a lot riskier that Michael will of course find you Let's try and keep avoiding that. Get to the house. Now! Okay, so we're back up to the house for our hurry. Oh! Come on. Come on. I might have to cheat. Sorry. Yeah, we're going to cheat. Okay. It's an expert-level difficulty mode. It's tough to get through and explain at the same time. So my minute's almost up. We've successfully avoided Michael for the full minute. When the minute is up, you'll have one hurry-up left at the right scoop. You shoot that. And congratulations, you have survived. So that is the Stalker mode in Halloween. It's a very fast-paced, intense mode. You want to avoid Michael Myers while also scoring all those massive, massive points in the different areas of the game. But it's very high risk. because if you stay there, Michael will get you. I'm going to play one more game on it where I don't really explain much. I'll just kind of play it through so you can see it in action. Alrighty, so the stalker mode is lit. I'll start that up. One thing I did want to mention is that every time you do shoot one of these lit shots, you are building up your hurry-up shot value. So it's very helpful to actually keep moving around and whatnot. If your plan is to just kind of stay put and you don't want to hit anything because you think it's too high risk, it's not really going to help you a whole lot because your hurry up value isn't going to be anything for when Michael does catch you. So if you want to have a monster, we'll just pretend it didn't happen. If you want to have a monster scoring mode, you want to keep moving around. Nope. Okay, so now we've got it. We've got right ramp. There we go. All right, that's how you do stuff. Okay. Okay, so, oh, big thing here. So Michael's right here. I really don't want to drain off this upper play field down to there. Does he get me? All right, I collected that area. I'm going to let it fall. Move me to a new area. Just like that. Perfect. All righty, so I'm back down here. Oh, we don't want to flip that. We do not want to flip that one. Okay. All right, so Michael did. He has found me. Left bracket. All right, don't trip. Oh, boy. Don't show it, don't show it. My plan here is I'm going to let it get to that scoop because in pinball if it hits the scoop it'll stop that timer. Alright, don't miss! Just in the nick of time. There we go, stay in the hedge. I've got five seconds left to keep avoiding him and then I'll have that last hurried shot at the scoop. Oh! So that's how you time that scoop shot perfectly I guess. Yeah, that's good timing. All right. So that is kind of a brief overview of how the stock remote works and whatnot there. So I hope you guys enjoy that. And thank you so much for watching. I hope everybody had a great Christmas holiday break. And yeah, give us some good feedback online. Thank you all.
