## Analysis

Mike Dus visits Grazely Garage to document Kevin's restoration work, focusing on the nearly-completed custom Gammatron cabinet that Kevin has been working on intensively for a week. The video showcases multiple active projects including Eight Ball Deluxe restoration, Punch Out arcade machine LED upgrades, and a Whirlwind Total Chaos conversion kit demo. Secondary coverage includes machine trading activity between community members (Paragon, Flintstones, Game Show, Data East Jurassic Park, South Park) and operational details about restoration workflow and parts sourcing.

### Sentiment

**Positive** (0.82) — Mike Dus expresses consistent enthusiasm for Kevin's restoration quality and craftsmanship. Tone is celebratory throughout the garage tour. Whirlwind Total Chaos gameplay demo generates cautiously positive reception ('I don't exactly hate it'). Community machine trading context presented neutrally. No criticism of restoration work; minor technical issues (weak plunger, set screws, volume levels) presented as normal operational challenges, not quality failures.

### Signals

- **[business_signal]** Kevin actively acquiring and trading pinball machines; recent acquisitions include Paragon, Flintstones, Game Show (incoming Data East Jurassic Park). Indicates expansion of collection/business scope and active engagement in community machine circulation. (confidence: high) — Detailed machine trading conversation; Dan Shadic's delivery of Paragon to Shane Jackson and Game Show to Cory; discussion of potential Dracula acquisition
- **[community_signal]** Grazely Garage positioned as central restoration hub for pinball community; multiple concurrent projects from different customers/partners; infrastructure for professional-grade restoration (powder coating partnerships, parts inventory, testing/gameplay validation). (confidence: high) — Multiple active projects at various stages; outsourced finishing (Superior Metals); collaborative decision-making on machine trading; integration with broader community (Shane Jackson, Cory Cook, Dan Shadic deliveries)
- **[design_philosophy]** Whirlwind Total Chaos takes creative liberties with theme/narrative; adds protagonist character ('van dude') with no relevance to original Whirlwind; community perceives as acceptable given limited source material for expansion. (confidence: medium) — Mike: 'There's quite a lot of creative liberty like when it comes to the theme, but which is all right, I guess.' Discussion of added character having 'no relevance in the original Whirlwind' but viewers accepting creative expansion.
- **[product_strategy]** Whirlwind Total Chaos conversion addresses preservation concern by allowing toggle between original and new versions; maintains nostalgic playability while introducing modernized content. Viewed as value-add rather than replacement. (confidence: high) — Mike: 'I think if I owned a Whirlwind I would just play Whirlwind. But I'm happy this exists... I imagine playing the OG code will just be identical to regular Whirlwind.' Kevin: 'But really does bring new life to an old game.'
- **[product_concern]** Gammatron restoration achieving exceptionally high quality despite extreme damage (cabinet stored in standing water, 95% of components needing replacement). Kevin's work quality assessed as among finest for the rare machine type. (confidence: high) — Mike: 'This is literally going to be one of the nicest Gammatrons in existence.' Detailed documentation showing custom paint work (white spatter effect), complete reconstruction, and planned polished metal finish.
- **[technology_signal]** Whirlwind Total Chaos conversion kit identified with playability issues: weak plunger preventing loop shots, multiball self-feed mechanic (no auto plunger), potential feed/routing problems ('nasty pops' from certain shot paths). Suggests mechanical/rule balance tweaking needed. (confidence: high) — Kevin: 'I will say the plunger on this one is pretty weak right now. You won't be able to pull the loop even close.' Discussion of pops feeding issues and lack of auto-plunger for multiball.

## Transcript

I'm Mike Dus and this is Pinball Shenanigans. Hi doggies. Oh [ __ ] It is time for a visit to the Grazley garage. Go see what Kevin and Dutch have been up to. Spoiler alert, I know what they've been up to. But we'll go for a tour and see what is new. But the main thing that's going on right now that Kevin's been working on day and night for a week straight is my gamutron project. Turning uh one of the worst cabinets that he's ever dealt with, courtesy of me. And thanks to Paul Derer, whose mother was storing the cabinet in a pool of water. This was uh this was a piece of work. Needed a lot of love, but Kevin uh has been grinding on that day and night seemingly. And it's darn near complete. It's a custom paint job, and it looks amazing. So, going to go check that out live for the first time. I've just seen photos. And I just heard a little rumor that Mr. Dan Shadic might be there or will be showing up at some point with a uh South Park project for Kevin that uh Shane Jackson is commissioning Kevin to do for a customer of his. So, we got South Park. So, that's pretty cool. I did a whole series on South Park when I restored mine. So, hey, check that out if you want. It was probably 10 or 20 episodes long and uh it turned out real nice. Also, Kevin has set up the whirlwind uh total chaos. So, if you don't know what that is, it's basically uh whirlwind with a conversion kit where you add new boards, a new LCD display. Uh, it comes with animations, new sound, new modes. It's basically a whole new game, but it also allows you to play the original Whirlwind. So, Kevin is going to do um a full job on the uh Whirlwind Total Chaos package. So, new cabinet decals and oh, a new playfield, too. So, that's going on, but most of that has been on hold while he works on the Gamatron. And also, he's kind of just finishing off Benedict's uh eightball as well. The cabinet's done. Just waiting for powder coating and uh metals to come back from Superior Metals, which uh they're going to come back all nicely mirror finished and highly polished. So, that'll be pretty sexy. Gavantron's going to get the same treatment. Powder coated legs and polished metals. And who knows, there might be something else going on there, too. But I got to go um borrow a drill bit so I can drill holes in my Gamatron playfield. Well, just make existing holes bigger so that LEDs can fit into them. And I'm bringing a goodie bag, some hardware, leg levelers, leg bolts, cabinet protectors, and some uh head bolts for Gamatron. So, let's go snoop around the Grazley garage. What shenanigans are going on over here in the driveway?
Deals are being made.
Oh, I hear you're doing uh Shane Jackson's dirty work again.
I'm always doing everybody's dirty work, aren't I?
You're too nice. What do you got here? What do you got?
Delivery, right?
Yeah. Didn't you just bring him a Paragon?
Just the Paragon I took there yesterday?
Yeah.
No, just Paragon.
And then I picked up uh South Park. I think it's a customer of Maples.
Yeah, that's what I heard.
And then what else did I bring? Oh, game show.
Where's game? Did you buy that for yourself?
Uh I think Cory wants it.
Oh, interesting. There was some there was
could end up at Fork River then.
I think that's what he wants. Yep. We were doing some swim link
and uh I picked up a um dad at East Jurassic Park
for yourself.
Yeah.
Oh, nice. Very cool. Very cool.
So, that was the deal. If Cory wanted uh game show, then I was going to see about getting
Look at you, Mr. Wheeler and Dealer.
Wheel and dealer. I learn it from
I guess. Yeah, I did uh start you off with like a 10 pack of machines and look at you going now.
First one, I don't know what it was.
Oh, yeah. 10. It was probably like a pretty big piece of [ __ ]
There was a pile of [ __ ] I came over many piles of [ __ ]
And I walked in his uh Coburn Street.
Yeah.
And I said, "Oh my, I don't know about that. What about that?" "Oh yeah, I'll sell you that." And I think that's what I walked away from.
Yeah. Probably sold him like 15 games later.
Yeah. And then and then the day I went to buy a what? $40 board and I walked away with $7,000 worth.
Oh yeah. This is a slight little upsell. That's what you got to do. Just upsell.
Yeah.
Hey. Hey. You want a shack? No. Well, no. Take it.
I still have another shack.
Oh, and a Street Fighter 2.
Yeah, I still have that one.
Take that, too.
Oh, yeah. I did sell you doubles, right?
And a bounty hunter.
Bounty hunter.
Bounty hunter.
Yeah.
Nice uh sticker you got back there. You got a couple of good stickers. Check it out.
Yeah. Everybody's joining everybody. Where's the maple sticker?
Ah, Shane, what's going on?
That's right.
Slacking.
Oh [ __ ] I missed you falling on your butt.
I'll uh record while you guys do all the uh
drop on the ground.
Heavy labor here. Don't drop it on yourselves.
Ready?
All right. probably throw this on the time lapse and then make our way to the garage and check out Gamatron. [Music] Okay, South Park has made it into the garage and we are pointing out that uh someone's already done half the work here. So, you won't even uh you'll be able to cut your fees in half there, Kevin. Look at that. Some good Bondo work right there. Okay,
back up.
Time to check out Gamatron for the first time live.
Kind of see it in my peripheral, but here it is. Yeah, that turned out awesome.
The white uh spatter.
That really took it to the next level. It looks outer spacey now, but it makes it like uh more of a 3D look to it, right? It just look very 2D without that.
Sup, Dutch.
Yo, what do you think of this? It reminds me of those 80s Lego spaceman.
Oh yeah. Oh, my mother's calling. Mother, I told you I'll be busy for a little bit. I'm recording.
Quick, editor, put a picture of 80s spaceman Lego on the screen now.
80s Lego spaceman.
See what I mean?
See? Yeah, I I see exactly what you mean now. That looks awesome, dude. you um are a you know there's the saying you're a jack of all trades but a master of none. You are like a master of all trades. The woodworking, the painting, the the speckling.
Turn out pretty cool.
Yeah, this is I say this with almost all of your restorations, if not all of them. This is literally going to be one of the nicest gamutrons in existence. I mean, there's not that many of them out there, but still.
Can't believe the head's in one piece.
Yeah, the head turned out like new.
Better than new.
This This is old and this is old.
That's all that was salvaged. This piece and this piece.
Actually, these two pieces I just
Oh, right. Yeah. Yeah.
So, but new back, new bottom, new front,
new side trim, other side trim.
Yeah. This piece you said too, right?
Uh, this piece.
These two were the salvage pieces. Okay. So, you didn't have to do the notch on this one?
No, I've done that before. Yeah. This side. This side at the bottom. This, this, those, that, uh, all new.
And, uh, you've been working at this, I feel like, full-time, maybe double time for a week straight. But this, you've only had this for about a week.
We got this last Sunday.
Yeah. Oh, yeah. We brought this here on your birthday. You're now like 19 and 10 days old. How do you feel?
19 years and 10 days.
And what he said.
Yeah. How does Dan Shadic feel? How old are you?
Older.
When's your birthday?
Uh, coming up very soon. A big one.
Oh, is it?
Yeah. Starts with a six.
Oh, snap.
Yeah.
We'll have to have a pinball party at your place. Really? Hey,
there you go.
He has a pinball party at his place. Uh,
we'll do something.
All right, cool. So, what does the uh Have you kind of put the back glass in the head to sort of see?
Yeah, it looks good.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
I want to see what this looks like cuz then we can match up the blues.
Yeah, I don't have trim. Otherwise, it just be stuck in there.
Oh, that looks amazing. The color scheme that we drew out worked perfectly. That is awesome. Okay, so now got to get back to the playfield. Dutch, you want to give me a tour of what's going on in the uh arcade?
No.
I heard you're LEDing some Monster Bash.
I am.
Is giving me some problems cuz the ones the set screws aren't coming out
no matter how much I WD40 and like torque.
Wait, what game?
What
What game did you say?
Monster badge. Oh, okay. Sorry.
Dracula.
Oh, I was thinking Dracula the machine. I'm like, you guys didn't buy that. Dracula
dude
on monster screw is not coming out. So, he's stuck on. So, I'm like trying to LED it while this thing is off and like kind of sitting over here. I'm trying to like work between him.
Ah, fun.
Sucks. It's done behind him. And now it's Kevin's problem.
That's in the queue for full restoration.
Yep. And uh so I don't know if you seen the Aball because I kind of did a little video of A-ball before, but it was on like my Gamutron. Um was I kind of like included in one of my Gamatron videos. So this is more of a Grazley garage dedicated video, although I will be borrowing the Gamatron footage for a Gamatron episode. But this eightball turned out incredible. Look at this. And I see powder coating has come in.
So that means those are for Gamatron, but eightball is nearing completion. Just waiting for the uh side rails and coin door and stuff. They're going to be high polished chrome. And same with the gamutron. But there is all the other parts. This is what a lot of it looked like. You know,
very rusty, but
this thing is a beauty. So, you've got punch out volume. Also, uh not blowing out your eardrums, so that's an improvement.
Yeah, I'm starting to get back to this kind of like not having to like work on games for the tournament anymore. So, got to get back to doing this.
Yeah.
So, progress has started on it. Also, as you can see, Paragon is gone. Shane Jackson bought that and Dan Shadic delivered that to him just recently. So, what are you going to do about the Flintstones? Are you going to trade that and some cash towards the Dracula to Cory or are you keeping the Flintstonones?
We're definitely on the fence. Very much on the fence cuz Dracula is cool, but Flintstones is also cool. Yep.
I think we're leaning towards doing up Flintstones just because I think we'd rather own Beth and Dracula.
Yeah.
But
they're pretty close in in uh desiraability and fun factor.
Desiraability, fun factor, value. Like I don't know. We're on the fence, but I feel like I would play Flintstones more probably.
Yeah. Well, let's check out this. Um maybe play a game even. And then I got to get out of here. But this is the whirlwind total chaos package by Padretti Gaming. Padretti, which is an Italian company, I believe.
So you can see Pet. It's got the LCD screen, new display panel here, speaker panel, new back glass with new art, and basically everything else is the same. Cabinet wise, playfieldwise.
No, cabinet wise, there's cabinet decals.
The cabinet decals will be changed.
Total chaos ones.
Yeah, but as it sits,
still stock.
It's still stock, but I don't know that I've ever played uh the Total Chaos version. So, let's give it a quick whirl. Okay, let's see what uh Total Chaos is all about. Does it take a bit to power on? Uh, not too long, like 30 seconds or so.
Oh, that's not too bad. Um, here, hold that. So, see the boot up sequence. Let's see. Now, it's locked. Okay. I was going to check out the uh Oh, the keys right there. Check out the board set, but there's Pretty now. I think this costs around 2200 US or so. Hey there, choosy game. But just for fun. Okay, this is a plexi. Yeah, let's take a quick peek at the board set here. So, there you go. You got the whole fast like MPU with this uh sound board here. All kinds of um different options for sound uh volume
equalizers and whatnot.
Yeah. And then of course the uh LCD. But you can see here you get to pick between the original whirlwind and the total chaos. So you're not losing the complete nostalgia factor. Does it basically feel and play exactly the same when you go with the uh
We've never actually tried.
No. Oh, okay. Hold on.
We've only ever played this thing a few times and like you got to play the total chaos package.
Is the audio amp, do you think?
Yeah, it's probably okay.
All right. Well, let's try this for the first time. This should be interesting.
All right. You're good to go.
Oh,
you just selected what game mode. I start it.
Oh, now I got to start. Okay,
today's Carl Weathers is there's a good chance of rain and drain.
It's got a new uh funky uh sound mix.
I will say the plunger on this one is pretty weak right now. You won't be able to pull the loop even close.
Oh, okay.
Oh, it's got a upgraded speaker system, too, doesn't it?
Uh probably. [Music] Is that where the Do you have any idea how to play this game yet?
A little bit. So, this is modes. You press both fl buttons to choose. The modes are basically hit this one shot.
All right, let's try acid plants. I'm assuming hit with both flippers to lock it in.
Yes.
Hey, there's the whirlwind,
dude. Yeah.
Acid plants.
Acid plants. The drop targets. Whoa.
Only one of them is currently up right now. I'm assuming all three are supposed to be up, but
they reset. I'm not sure the rules count for it or something.
That part is not collected. Try it again.
Part collected. Oh, we're trying to build parts to a van or something.
I think that's what it is. You have to like get the van gets destroyed or something. I'm not 100% sure. All right. So, let's uh There's a nasty glare right above me, and that's uh my excuse. Area 51. Let's go check out that
area 51.
Shoot the middle target.
Nailed it.
Is that the end of the
No. Hit it again.
Okay. [Music] Oh, come on. [Music]
I got to say, I don't exactly hate it. I didn't have the highest expectations for it.
Kevin hates that for some reason. Like a lot. The bonus sequence.
Oh,
it is pretty lame.
The sound or the actual animation?
I I don't know. I think it's just lame or something.
I didn't really pay much attention. All right.
It's pretty pretty boring. Let's see what nuke Nick is all about.
Okay, so that's
shoot every jet.
Every jet.
How do you feed the top ones, though?
Oh, come on, man.
That is not cool. You suck.
You want to play?
I guess I can try.
All right, you try again.
And I'll uh
Also, here's the biggest travesty.
No match.
Oh, that might be in the settings possibly.
I don't know. It was on five ball when we got it.
Was it? Okay. Well, it plays pretty evil.
Yeah.
All right. Maybe Dutch can uh
I think you just blow. Honestly,
I I got some bad feeds. [Music]
Okay,
let's see what's going on here. This looks like a mode start Bermuda.
Oh, you can see what mode you shot you at the head.
Oh, okay. That's cool. It shows the lights on the playfield.
Yeah.
That are associated to the mode.
I never noticed that.
Shoot the spinner. Okay. I like the different soundtracks for the different modes.
That those pops have always been like death every time they feed out of there. Uh need some tweakage
maybe. Also I know if you spell if you hit enough middle target like the drop targets the spells whirlwind the lights are locked.
Oh okay.
We'll try to get that I guess.
I heard one complaint is that there's not a auto plunger.
There is not.
And during multiball plunge your own balls kind of thing.
That is true.
I don't see that being a a deal breaker. It's like World Cup Soccer uh Tales video mode.
Oh, the wizard mode.
Yeah, that's what I mean. Yeah. Yeah.
Not video mode.
I know what you meant.
Okay. Run, chicken, run. What do we got to do here?
Run, run, chicken.
I don't I don't read very well.
Oh, wait. It's a video mode.
Hey, cool. Smash the right flipper left. You got to do
Oh, okay. I thought you were just going to have to do one flipper at a time.
I don't.
But you look like you collected your your uh tires
your van part. So, you did it right.
I thought it was dead there.
Oh, neat pink
donut like
uh numbers.
There's quite a lot of Created Liberty like when it comes to the theme, but which is all right, I guess. I don't know.
Yeah, I don't blame, you know.
There's not a whole lot. There's really not a whole lot to go off of. They they took like the dude off the back of the whirlwind like translate and made him the protagonist. That guy there.
No, that guy. The van dude. The van.
He's like the main character now, I guess, but he has like no relevance in the original whirlwind.
I think I don't know.
Don't quote me. I'd say that uh I got to get this multiball. It's
that I'm enjoying this a little more than I thought I would. I thought it was just going to be like meh.
Hey, I want that.
But it really does bring new life to an old game. Yeah, that's that's my thing is like I don't know. I think if I owned a whirlwind I would just play whirlwind. But I'm happy this exists [Music] and I imagine playing the OG code will just be identical to uh
regular whirlwind.
Regular whirlwind except for the display. But the display emulates
the alpha numeric displays. It even's got even has like little flickering of the display. Like they really tried to emulate it well. Like you see like segments of digits like kind of flickering, you know.
So hats off to Pajetti. They did a good job.
Yeah. [Music] So, this is going to get the full treatment and um it'll be pretty incredible when done. You can see how war this plate looks.
All right, what are we playing here?
The piggies
piggy m pig pig gym.
I think it's what it is, but the boat's called the piggies, I guess.
Shoot the tunnels. Oh, okay. Like Adam's family tunnel.
Yeah. Yeah.
Road show.
Have you got a view? Oh, the lock looks lit, too.
There's a tunnel.
Oh, that might just be the tunnel for this mode.
Oh, it is. Under the ramp counts as a tunnel. Bet you're right.
Cave.
There it is.
Under the ramp shot.
And it is fed right out.
Yeah. Not a lock. One more tunnel left. The far left.
The hog lab.
Hog lab.
Oh, I missed the part. [Music] Damn.
Skip that.
Yeah, this the sonar kind of
Yeah,
noise can get a little hard on the brain. But I do like the OG soundtrack remix with some extra bass in there.
God damn it.
What are you going for?
Trying to get the the drop target. Three more and I got the lock. Two more.
Oh, okay.
God damn it.
That's pretty cool. I missed it.
So you got to hit drop targets to light locks.
Yeah. instead of the old um directional targets.
But it's weird. It's like you you like drop them all like x number of times and you hit the ramp lock two balls and then it immediately starts.
Oh, okay.
It's not like a lock three sort of thing. It just like starts as soon as you lock the second.
Well, I'd say it's actually pretty cool. I don't mind it at all.
Yeah, it's neat.
Very neat. All right. Dutch has fixed the volume on the punch out
and I turned on the attract mode. turned on the attract mode. Check this out. [Music] That's awesome. I love that Dutch has got some skills. He resoldered some volume pots so it's not blaring at max volume anymore.
Recapping the monitors next.
Ah, very good.
Pray for me.
Making uh progress on this. And you've got the decals somewhere, I heard, as well. So,
yeah, that's pretty cool.
It's going to get the full treatment as well. Oh, wait.
Probably shouldn't handle this with dirty hands, but
Oh, yeah. You got you got LEDing hands. Oh, that reminds me. I did.
You got a spare hand.
Grab a drill bit off uh Kevin before.
Oh, yeah. This is like um
we got the alternate ones that are cabinet size.
Oh, wow.
It's the same design, but the other ones are like a fifth of the size. How is that even going to fit? That looks taller than the damn machine.
Barely.
But that is super cool.
All right.
All right. We'll let that just roll itself back up. Boom. So, did you catch all that? So, Kevin and Dutch bought a Paragon and a Flintstones in a deal. And then we're possibly going to trade those two machines for Cory Cook's Dracula, which Kevin actually previously restored. But Cory snoozed and losed. And Cory ended up losing out on the Paragon to Shane Jack Jackson of Maple Pinball. So Dan Shadic brought the Paragon to Maple Pinball for Shane and he brought home Eddie Dazzio's Jurassic Park data east which is Dan's new project. He also brought home Eddie Dazzio's Big Show which is going to end up going to Cory Cook of London Pinball which may end up at Fork River. and he brought home the South Park, which is for Shane's customer, for Kevin to restore. Gamatron is almost finished. Aball is looking amazing. Punch Out is making good progress. And Whirlwind, Total Chaos, I don't hate it. There's your Gracley garage update.
