## Transcript

and welcome to the four man's pinball podcast episode number two the only pinball podcast that searches the coin return slots for extra quarters i am drew and the man giggling and sitting across from me is my hetero life partner and the only man in pinball that can flip a game without his hands. It's Ian. How are you guys doing out there? Well, here we are in pinball land here in Milwaukee. This is episode number two. We did not receive any hate mail last week, so we're going to continue on with our podcast journey here. They love us. They really, really love us. Yes. How many people downloaded us? I think we had 14. 14 unique downloads. Oh, man. 10 being my wife. She didn't know how to use it. It's funny. I was joking with my way before I got here tonight, and I said 12 of them were probably our family and friends, and there were two people that said, what the hell is this shit? Yeah, yeah. We came back just for you guys. Well, this time we actually have microphones and shit, so this might actually work out better for you guys. You might actually get a non-hungover Ian that's not all fucked up and sick and ready to rock and roll for episode two. What about you, buddy? This is true. Episode one, I was a couple drinks in before we started. Ian was a little hungover. Today we're both feeling good. We actually did upgrade our equipment. That's not a joke. So in one week's time, our audio hopefully is sounding a little better. I got all these fucking blinking lights looking at me right now. I'm feeling good, Drew. I'm feeling great. Do you know what those blinking lights do? Well, when they blink, that means there's some sound being recorded. Technically speaking, I have no idea. Yeah, I just plugged everything in, and we're recording, dude. We're recording. Oh, man. What are you drinking today, Drew? Today I am drinking whiskey again, of course. What kind of whiskey? Oh, some Kessler. I'm drinking a little fancy Kessler here with a little Diet Coke and a twist of lime. Oh, it's awesome. How about you? You took out my Telemar Dew last time. I did, all of it. Fucking, it was gone. Dude, you got a problem. Now you do sound like my wife. No, you're fine, you're fine. Today is, it was on sale, Crown Royal Vanilla. That is some good stuff. It really is. It's good. It tastes great. It feels like it's good for me, too. I think it is. Vanilla? Vanilla's always good for you. Yeah, it's good. That's why they put it in cakes and shit. It's good for you. So, today we're going to do a little bit of more introduction to kind of get to know us. so how how i got into this hobby of pinball that we all love talking about so much is actually the guy sitting across from me ian uh him and i used to play a lot of arcades together we purchased lots of arcades we learned how to fix them we we spent many hours driving in cars picking them up and and different uh parts across the state of wisconsin and the midwest and then ian got himself a black rose pinball machine which was a beautiful machine it really really is i miss it yes and uh i started playing it and and the rest as they say is history how long have we known each other drew uh we're going on 15 years i think right yeah old friends old friends playing games 15 years and someday maybe in a later episode we'll tell the fun story about how ian and i met but we're not doing that in this episode no that's a lot of that's a good story though it really is we should play that one um but yeah you know we uh cut our teeth on all these arcade machines we know which ones not all arcade machines are built equal and we learned that early on and and that kind of goes the same with pinball as well so you know i'll never forget my first restore which was a galaxy and i still have it it looks beautiful still but But Drew here, he was brave enough to try an Operation Wolf. Oh, man. That thing paid $200 or $300 for it. It wasn't very much. And that thing, it worked. But just the amount of problems and issues and things that happened with that. Nobody told you it was made out of cardboard. Oh, my God. Was that the most waterlogged piece of shit cabinet? And then you bought a second one for parts. Yes. And that shit, same thing. And you realize we got sick of getting electrocuted, so we got into pinball, right? Yes. And I also find that just working on pinball machines is a little easier. It's fun. It's just... It is. It's more straightforward. Yes. Yeah. I do love arcades still, and I still have a few at my house as well. But pinball is where it's at. I mean, I spend much more time playing pinball than I ever play with the arcade games. And Ian and I have spent a lot of time talking about this, the arcade games. some of the old ones are just really not very good no let's let's be honest people hey real quick i know we're a pinball podcast but tell them the quick story about popeye the popeye pinball or oh that was arcade machine that was drew's grail yes i wanted it for a long time he wanted it hardcore and uh i scooped it up it was a local uh local guy selling it the salt in the in the wound is i had drew actually help me load that fucker up and take it take it to my basement and uh and then i had it for a few months and then i realized popeye not a great game it just isn't it looks beautiful i love the blue cabinet you know nintendo cabs do look really nice yeah they're fantastic however that game i mean you could play it a few times and you're like i think i beat it like the very first day i had it and i was like not only is this game you know boring and slow but long story short yeah a lot of those arcane games are like that you find out that they're designed to steal your childhood quarters, you know, when you were a kid and you had your handful of tokens. All those games were rigged to take them all from you. So glad to get out of that because why do we love pinball? It's all about skill. That's why we love it so much. Skill and every game is just different. Everything. Every time you hit that start button. So what have you been up to this week, Mr. Ian? This week, this week, well, you know, I've been in preparation for this one. I have been doing nothing but ordering electronic components to put together episode two. Episode two with many more to come. Oh, well, you know what? We're too far down the rabbit hole now. We are. We look legit. If you guys could see our studio right now. It's a studio. Yes. It is not Ian's basement. It is a studio. Yeah, it's serious. It's serious. I'll put some photos on Facebook. I have a Facebook page in progress. Coming soon, you'll be able to find the Poor Man Pinball Facebook page. It's there. You probably have to search pretty hard for it. You 14 people, our fans. Yes, the two people that are not our friends and family. You guys will enjoy looking at it. I'm going to call them the original 14. Well, you original 14. Nice. Thank you so much for listening to episode one. Episode two, probably going to be just as sloppy. We're going to really get rolling, I think, in the next, I don't know, episode 10 range. We'll get there. We'll get there. Remember, guys, we're coming at you every single week. You know, once again, we just want to entertain. Absolutely. That's what we're looking to do. So how do you think of our first episode went, Ian? I thought, you know what, I didn't listen to it. Are you serious? I edited it a bunch of times, so I listened to it for three hours straight, and I was done. I haven't gone back to it. You know what's crazy? I literally listened to it two and a half times through, not because I'm a narcissist because anyone who knows me I'm really not I just I thought we did a pretty good job and I wanted to figure out how to improve so that every week we can bring you guys some some good content and you know this is going to sound a little cheesy but be like our podcast heroes that we're listening to because we listen to a lot of podcasts as we talked about in episode one and those guys do a really good job they put in a lot of work and time and and I want to be like them how about you yeah you know that's the thing i'm real into shit that doesn't pay me money it's like one of those you know all those hobbies those unforgiving hobbies where you just put a bunch of money into something and like you know well pinball's not an expensive hobby is it you can sell those machines at least hold some value i'm talking like brewing beer and shit like i everything that uh would cost me money i've tried so fuck podcasting this is awesome let's do this you know at least somebody gets to hear me make a fool of myself instead of me chugging down terrible beer well and it's in the cloud now it is it is in there for infinity and beyond if i ever figure out how to share it to itunes we're still working a few kinks there but itunes takes like anywhere from 30 minutes to three weeks it said three weeks are you serious apple efficiency come on man shit wow well half the apps use them for their search i don't it's a whole thing pissed me off but whatever apple i told you we were explicit so just to prove us already we don't steal anything else so anyway drew what did you do anything this week did you have any fun uh you know i didn't um you know a lot of work and and just the usual but uh um no no there really wasn't much exciting going on yes yeah drew drew worked once again what a big surprise um you're my hero drew no i i did uh i did play a little pinball um as i often do at uh the new round one by us where they have seven or eight brand new sterns and uh ian actually went there this morning i went today he did i checked it out and uh because i've been telling him about it because i go there about once a week and and just play some games and uh just you know i'm i am in the market for a new pin we'll talk about that a little later um i'd like to get some listener feedback on what I maybe should purchase, but we will get to that. What did you play at round one, Ian? Oh, man, I played all sorts of fun stuff. Let's see. I started off with Munsters, the pro edition. Everything there, I think, is a pro. If I'm not mistaken. Yep, they're all sterns. All sterns, all pros. Yes. So Munsters, ACDC, Star Wars, Guardians. Deadpool's there. Deadpool. Didn't play that one, though. Some guy was hawking that one pretty good. Iron Maiden. Love Iron Maiden. Out of all those, Ironman's still my favorite. It's not even close, the way that game shoots. Problem with that one, though, that bastard at round one is that left sling with the wire form, that ball would drop in there and get stuck on the plastic from the sling. Oh, man. Nothing like a machine that doesn't work. It was pissing me off. I hung that ball up every time I wanted to throw that machine out the window. But you know what? If that would have played beautifully, I'd probably still be there, so it's probably a good thing you know well i've watched him play pinball and no he wouldn't still be there uh yeah because i'd have spent a hundred dollars i'd still be there uh but yeah monsters was fun it was you know a great playing game it's just like what everyone else has been saying you know rules were light but you know i don't mind light rules because if it's a on location play i'm not looking to sit there for four hours you know so no and once again stern has done a really good job with these pins that are on route i mean the the games that are in commercial establishments they're just they're just fun to play deadpool monsters um acdc they're just they're great games to have on location yeah monsters was fun it's just you know something i wouldn't expect in a home use environment essentially just with that code the code just the depth isn't there but um the shots are there so there you go play it you know it's worth it's worth a few credits yes right yes and if you are a monsters fan though i think it's a great pin for you oh well franchi just killed the artwork so that's just a piece of art you know in your basement or in your rec room yes you know anytime franchi touches something i mean that's artwork same thing with zombie yeti i mean that's you put that in your house that's a conversation starter uh even your non-pinball friends i know will gravitate towards those machines uh because they are so damn pretty and uh you know that's what a jersey jack just he's been living off this wizard of oz thing forever now right but that's like one of the still one of the prettiest machines ever made and uh i'm making another one we can talk about that later but uh still you know it's these things are works of art in their own way so so the first thing we're going to talk about today is the texas pinball festival tpf baby tpf as you guys know it happened over the weekend and ian and i were not in attendance but we had spies didn't we no no no not in attendance no spies do we stream anything no no check out our streaming channel oh no no no nothing no live events so what we're gonna do is steal everyone else's shit what we do is we read news and we report it to you you've all heard it already here oh man we're always a week behind so this happened like two days ago so two days ago you gotta understand when i post this though oh touche touche it will be about a week won't it good luck itunes three weeks we we will see you guys in three weeks maybe we should have said the date what's today today we are recording it's 8 51 on monday the 25th oh so this is legitimate news okay so back up tpf baby yeah baby rewind uh some of the biggest news that did come out of there was this horrendous presentation by jersey jack pinball i'm sure everyone in the pinball world has heard about it by now they come out they have a machine wrapped in garbage bags they unwrap it and it's this bright yellow wizard of oz what do you think about it it's like what the fuck what are they doing why would they do that here you got poor eric over there and that poor bastard finally is getting some respect from that damn game that he made that pirates game and everyone's loving that game it's winning all sorts of twippies and he's got to sit there and listen to jack talk about a seven-year-old game and how they just powder coated some mustard lockdown bars and some armor on it and uh and they took away the monkey no they didn't take it away they added it to the lcd screen they took away the monkey are you kidding me well you know drew what would you pay for a yellow a piss yellow no sorry mustard yellow mustard yellow mustard yellow wizard of oz without a mech that was in it originally i think it came out at 6500 that original yeah price around there that was 10 years well seven eight years ago let's just call it seven grand yep brand new yep yep so what would you pay today if i took that beautiful emerald green and fucking poured a bunch of mustard on it and then you were like i still like wizard of oz as long as there's a flying monkey and i go oh no drew there's no flying monkey what would you pay for that well 250 units that's what they're that's what they're selling it on it's not the yellow it's the the sorry 200 units he opened that up didn't he yeah he did open that up to 500 we are limited limited edition he said he ordered parts for 500 they're only making 200 i listen you're not paying 12 grand for it i don't care no no you're not and i just i don't get it i mean from a business standpoint i understand what they're doing they're keeping the line moving which they need to do so so from a business perspective it does make sense however they shouldn't have revealed it the way they did at this tpf what they should have done in my opinion was hyped up pirates because they're still producing pirates right are they saying they're done that's done now completely done yeah they don't have any parts so essentially what would you what you have is you know whatever three four or five months back jack making the decision do i continue the pirate road yep or do i bring back something that's a proven winner and tweak it a little bit correct now from what i understood you know i thought tweaking meant they were going to take some of the problematic mechs and make them work better no they get rid of them and he did make them work better in lcd yes yes this thing will work as long as you have power what do you you know i just don't understand if you all right so how long has it been out seven years or so yeah 2011 if you wanted this game you would have bought it already yes yellow brick road doesn't look like it's it's it's a head turner it's not a work of art and i i really don't know what he's doing well like i said he's keeping the line moving is what and he needs to do yeah you know what though he should have probably i mean hindsight's 2020 at this point but you know it would have been nice to see pirates go a little longer sure sure you know what he's doing now he's ordering parts for pirates because he'll rerun that shit next year correct and that'll be called the black rose edition no that black pearl it'll be the black pearl edition yes there's been a lot of speak about that but that's that's the point or that's the question i should say uh was pirate selling well was there a demand for pirates and if there is why would they stop take it off the line well because um it was a rough start it was a really rough start it was a rough start so what they ended up doing was they ended up saying okay well i don't think this is gonna work out let's let's do something that's gonna work well and then that's where the yellow brick road edition came from but over that time you know you have now pirates really doing well i mean you got word of mouth on the street is just out of control it's one of the best games ever um you have twippy award after twippy award at one and um you know and you're more or less supporting your youngest and brightest future in eric you know so i thought maybe they would have uh showed a little bit more faith sure but once again it was just to me it was just about the presentation because from a business standpoint they're doing the same thing that stern is, Stern has had several games on the line for several years, and they keep releasing new games, and they keep rerunning games from several years past. So your only problem was the presentation? You didn't like the garbage bags? The garbage bags were nice. It was a nice touch. Oh, I'm... Okay. Let's move on. I don't understand. No, I'm saying that creating the Yellow Brick Road Edition, from a business standpoint, it's smart, because he's going to sell all of them. No, he's not. You don't think so? No. You think Nelson is going to be sitting forever? He asked everybody in attendance to say, raise your hand if you had a Wizard of Oz. And 30 people raised their hand. And then he goes, now raise your hand if you want a Wizard of Oz. And nobody raised their hand. Everybody was like, what the hell is he doing? Nobody knows what he's doing right now. Ian, you know me. I'm the forever optimist. I'm like, he's doing great. He's going to keep selling these things. you're gonna learn kids that i'm the i'm the asshole of the group so we got an optimist and we got a pessimist i think he was fucking stupid moral of the story what so what should they have on their line right now if they got to keep the line running because they got to keep these people employed i wanted them to keep pirates going i thought well you know what you put this much effort into this fucking thing already and and i would have agreed with that option as well because i think pirates has a demand now besides guess what they're announcing in two weeks guess what's already on the line what is on the line willy wonka is already on the line guys that there there are a lot of heavy rumors i think jack said it himself is that yeah jack has already hinted that in two weeks time he will be releasing uh or at least revealing i should say willy wonka so that is coming up guys so that means they're probably after they make these 200 bananas yep then they're gonna put willy wonka on the line you better believe it buddy you better believe it and Standard body. I'm excited about that. Yep, yep, yep. No, that is a pretty good revelation. I'll be able to nudge the thing. I'm a very small man. So they make the 200 bananas. Bananas are gone. And then they put Wonka's on the line. So we're thinking summer, maybe? A couple months? Yeah, yeah. I'm thinking end of July. Because if they reveal it in, say, a month, then you've got another couple months to kind of... Remember, Jack wants two. games this year. And what's the other rumored title? Guns and Roses, my man. Guns and Roses. They think Guns and Roses is going to be before Toy Story? Has that been confirmed? Definitely, yeah. I think Toy Story is next year. Even though Toy Story 4 is coming out this year. Exactly. What do you think about Willy Wonka as a theme? I think it's a great theme. And that's a lot coming from me because Willy Wonka in itself, like the movie, I'm like, eh, you know, I've watched it. It's cool. It's fun. Whatever. Everyone's seen it. It's been around a long time. But I think for pinball, it's amazing. It's weird, right? It's a weird theme. It is a weird theme. The plot of the movie is to kill a bunch of kids, right? Yeah. That's fantastic. That's right up my alley, folks. That's fantastic. Well, that's my only issue. I guess you could code it in a way where you are trying to survive the Chocolate Factory, right? Yeah, I think... Or are you coding it in a way where you're Willy Wonka and you're trying to weed them out one by one? Let's not spend all day on this, but let's spend like a minute. Just talk about two or three modes that you think should be in there. What's the first mode that you think would be in Willy Wonka? Oh, first mode, it should definitely be the six ball everlasting gobstopper. Oh, that's a good one. Yeah, that just keeps on coming, baby. that's gonna be uh you know six seven eight i don't even care how many balls but it's everlasting i just want a monster multiball on that so that would be one mode just off the top of my head i don't have notes here sure sure no i uh you need some sort of golden ticket mode just like collect a golden ticket win the golden ticket something yeah that's like a super jackpot or something of that nature i think um yeah you gotta you know your bash toy would be the the golden goose when he lays the golden egg you gotta beat the shit out of the goose okay um you gotta have a chocolate waterfall right yes so yes that could be a ramp i was thinking chocolate waterfall to to ramp or something of that nature yeah yeah yeah so i think i think there's a lot of good visuals that kind of lend themselves to that. Blueberry lockball, baby. Oh, the big blueberry woman or girl or whatever. Yeah. Just like, that would be the bash toy. Just a big, ugly bat. That poor girl. That poor girl. Yeah, yeah, well. I'd say there's some positives there. Yeah, just a visual standpoint and pinball and the colors and the different things you could do. I think it's interesting. I think it's going to be another hey, this game looks great. And if it has a good rule set, I think it's going to do well, just like all their other games. I agree. I agree. Especially because it's designed by the infamous Pat Lawler. Moving on. What did Stern do? Did we hear anything new from Stern? Stern, just today. Well, at TPF. Sorry. Nothing at TPF. Nothing. I heard Steve Ritchie had a little seminar, but he didn't reveal anything. No, but. Hey, I'm Steve Ritchie, bitches. he seems to do that on every every panel he's a really unique guy have you ever just like listened to that guy talk for like five minutes he's like he's like a way cooler hipper ron burgundy yeah after after every sentence he should be like after every sentence he like because I fucking Steve Ritchie bitches Master of flow Yes Every time I see him in some documentary or I watch an interview with him or anything, it's just, he's just this really cool cat, you know? Right, right. About everything. Master of flow, man. And then my favorite. Drives fast. Everyone always talks about this when they're complaining about a game or a mode or whatever. and he has one of the best pinball quotes ever play better i love it i think about that all the time when i'm like should i turn my game to five ball nope play better play better that's it that's your answer to everything pinball it really is play better yes that's not my answer my answer is that's pinball baby straight down the fucking middle oh well can't do anything about that that's pinball baby that's all i do that's my own saying so you guys can use that out there in radio land that's fine you can steal that from me and you know i was thinking about Steve Ritchie too i was like this is probably a good editor but you know master of flow could have so many different connotations and i was just thinking about like i wonder if he has any kids and i wonder if his wife was able to give birth really easy that baby just flew right out of there she's The mistress of flow? Yeah. The little heiress of flow just came right out of there. Oh, my God. Sorry, guys. Just wanted to throw that out there. Yeah. Maybe I'm wrong. No. Nope. I think you're wrong. Hey, when you're called the master of flow, it can mean so many things. We don't know if it's necessarily pinball. All right. What else? What else? Oh, you want to do the news today? Let's just do the stern news. Sure. Fire when ready. Just released, I don't know, a few hours ago, actually. They just released a teaser video of Black Knight. What is it called? Sword of Fury? Sword of Fury. No. Sword Rage? Sword Rage. Shit. I don't know. Yeah, something about Sword Rage or Sword of Fury. Yeah, I think it's... Sword Rage. I'll Google it. Just keep going. Google it. They released some grainy-ass photos. They did this kind of... It was a cool video of the Black Knight and flames behind him and his eyes and bigger, batter um looked very cool and then there were there were some pictures that were released of the game but you never know if those are photoshopped or what it is um what you could see it looked like there was a big knight in the middle which looked kind of badass and then it looked like there was two or three spinners which i thought was cool if they could if they put three spinners on a game uh that would be pretty neat um well i said it was kind of grainy and it was hard to see but neat theme you know everyone loves his old classics and uh yeah i can't find it okay that's fine they might have pulled it too sure sure anyways it if if the pictures were accurate it it looks like it could be a badass game although swords of fury is the fury is no no no that's a williams title oh okay i don't think i think it was rage i want to say rage but age of Fury. Sort of, sort of rage. I thought there was a... Yeah, whatever. But yeah, the blurry photographs, I think those were legit. I just think, again, Stern does this. Usually, I thought they learned from Beatles. I thought they got it. And Kaneda talks about this. All the grainy photos. Just like, try to get ahead of it. I know you can't. I know it's almost impossible. But, you know, all of a sudden grainy photos show up and you're like son of a bitch. I kept it quiet for this long and now we got a problem. So, I don't know. That's just something that was a little unfortunate. But CGC, they were at TPF. It seems like everyone missed their booth, though. And the people that did see their booth said it was an amazing booth because they had all their games out there. They had Attack from Mars, they had their Monster Bash remakes. But the big rumor, the big rumor now for a couple weeks now is that CGC is going to be doing their own original game. Do we think that means original game as in original IP? Or that they're doing not a remake and potentially an ip they're doing not a remake okay so it could it could be it could be licensed if that's what you're getting yeah yep is it yeah it could be licensed um i'm excited about it now my my history with my pinball machine so i had a black rose and then uh then i had a space invaders which i fixed up i ended up selling both of those uh space invaders is the widest heaviest thing you've ever seen in your life but it's cool yeah yeah i slipped a disc nudging that fucker it wasn't fun no no but um and then i sold those two to get a cgc monster bass monster bash but i've never had a monster bash i've never actually played one in the wild so it was kind of a leap of faith on mine i was like man i heard great things about it i played it on the pinball arcade app. But I gotta say, it's a beautiful fucking machine. I'm glad I got it. I got the SE and I can't stop looking at the fucking thing. So CGC is all right in my book. I'm excited. Whatever they do going forward I think is going to be golden. I think those guys are dialed in. Was that a pun? No. No, but that wasn't even a hint. I don't know what they got going on uh i called them yesterday they didn't tell me so so let's we can talk a little bit about that what do you think about if they do cactus canyon which is the big rumor for the next remake i don't care about any other remakes except for maybe i think cactus canyon problem is with remakes is you have to have games that are that didn't sell well right why do you say that no one wants an adams family when there's 20 000 of them floating around well they do if they can get it cheaper than what they can buy an adams family for now but there's 20 000 of them so if you already have one you already have one you know i'm saying yeah yeah i see fewer people fewer but if you or i wanted one we couldn't get in one now for less than eight or nine thousand and you could get one of these new remakes for a little less than that but you want demand a little higher i think so you know you're a bing bang bar yep bang bar big bang bar from capcom yep and that looks cool i've never played it it is a good looking machine i would love them to do no this is just a pipe dream i know this is gonna happen this isn't a canada thing but i would love them to just take a step back and see if they can jump on the epic failures of either alien pinball or the big lebowski when i say epic failures just getting those games out to the masses because those games are extremely cool games and i wish they would have made more of them and uh it's unfortunate about all that stuff i would love to see them do that but i'd like to see them do do their own original thing for a while and if those licenses ever open up i would love to see them bounce on those but but why why do you think they're choosing to do an original theme if these games are selling so well the remakes well because the business 101 is they started from the top and now they're working their weight down because they inside 100 you already got the top three you're done like now you're yeah but you're gonna end up going black rose no eventually you know what i'm saying like that's like one no no something you know i i totally disagree here's why you can't keep going further down hang on you can't remake every williams game hang on we we were gonna skim by this whole part but now i'm i'm stuck on it here is here is something you have tip of the mountain buddy you have i could name 20 games right now without even looking on pin side that from williams that could be remade that would have high demand name three theater of magic cactus canyon big bang bar you found house you failed that was a capcom game it was a capcom game i did say williams okay older games from the 90s. Theater of Magic, again, they would have to rework the code. It's not a very deep game. No, it's not. Totem. Another one. It's not very deep, but everyone loves a Totem. But you can get those if you want those. I don't think the thing... I'm going to strongly disagree there, buddy. Oh, man. I already strongly disagree. You can't strongly disagree to my strongly disagree. I'm strongly disagreeing with everything you just said. Oh, man. Because, you know what? They got the good stuff. It's already done. Cactus Canyon? Come on, now. Who's ever played that? I wouldn't be a buyer. And you're never going to get that extended code. They will. I believe they will. They don't own it. I don't even think the guy who wrote it owns half the shit he put on that. How's that work? They can get a coder to do something. Easily. Mmm. Mmm. Whatever, dude. That was Ian and I just growling at each other like dogs. Yeah, that's what happens when you've been friends for as long as we have. We just look at each other and growl. let's go move past that's fine that's fine american pinball where are we at american pinball octoberfest say that again that was a good i can't do that there's no way i can replicate that don't make me i can't do it i can't do it oh man super excited about octoberfest that is i am that one guy apparently canada's like nobody wants oh my god i'm that one guy yeah Let me tell you guys that when this game was not even announced, when there was like a rumor about it, Ian called me up like an excited five-year-old, and he said, you'll never guess what they're going to make. And I said, a pinball game? And he said, Oktoberfest. And I looked at him, and I said, okay. I'm German, brother. I can't help it. I'm German, and I like beer. I was just over the moon about it. And that's great because, you know, everyone has their dream themes. And I wouldn't say this is a dream theme of Ian's. However, I will say that he's into it. This is the guy that goes to German Fest in Milwaukee every year and is Lederhosen. I have pictures. We will put them up on our website. I look good. If somebody, if anybody emails us in and reminds us, we will gladly put that up on the site for you. It's a good look. Ian and Lederhosen. It's a good look, man. Oh, fantastic. I got a feather in my cap and everything. I got all the little pins. Well, I just thought, all right. So I was highly impressed with Houdini. I think a lot of people were because they rushed that game out. Now we have another game where they actually had some time to work on it and knock it out of the park. I mean, they have all the time in the world. The shots look great. It looks fun. It looks different. It's loaded to the gills. artwork still sucks ass though man i am so upset about that artwork because busy when i pictured it and i saw it at first i was super disappointed because i was i i was picturing inside of the giant tent and there's all that stuff that goes on inside of a giant tent you know you have the the bar you have all the the the all the different games that go on inside the tent you have people singing you have the band you have everything going on i figured you could make a pinball with that but no it's like 14 tents and it's it's which is fine um but it's it's the artwork just makes it just wait it's worse waldo i know everyone said it but it is 100% worse waldo it's it's it's too layered there's a lot of modes in this game and a lot of different things going a lot of different things going on and you have to put that in there so i get it and and the tent modes but yeah i'm looking at a list right now 14 tent modes i'm excited and you know people who flip it say it's great it looks good on a stream um shots are definitely unique that that cool uh barrel lock is very neat yeah that is super cool i i think corkscrew loop um i'm i'm just gonna read a couple of these uh tent uh modes juggler um duck hunting target shooting food frenzy bumper cars you know they got every stein race you know they got a lot a lot of cool like you know beer themes that are you know we're we're drinking beer and we're eating food and doing this and it's very cool do you hear about food frenzy no and hang on okay in in the note from october fat or sorry from uh american pinball it says food frenzy should be self-explanatory can someone please explain the self-explanatory to me because i read that and i was like oh from what i understood is you consume calories right yeah as this festival goes on and during food frenzy and what happens is what i understand is during food frenzy your flipper strength goes way down because you're super tired and it's hard to make your shot so that is cool they're thinking outside the box you know everyone knows they got the three flippers you know so you can go with one hand holding a beer the other two buttons are for you know your other hand or whatever so i think that's cool i think i think we need more innovations like that and i'm pretty excited to play it at least bare minimum play it it's on my radar i don't know we'll see how it goes though i hope it all comes together for him well you know it's it's a good looking game that one of the biggest problems i think that's gonna have though and the uphill battle is gonna be um its price god because you know at 7500 do i think it's a cool game it looks cool yep a lot of neat modes i think you know for a man cave it is it is a a great style of game. But for my money, $7,500, there's probably 10 or 15 other pins I would buy before that. I know for Ian, probably one or two, maybe. I don't have $7,500. Don't worry. Sorry, American Pinball. Your number one supporter doesn't have the money. The only guy that wants to buy your machine can't afford it. You know what I'm really hoping for, you people out there in podcast land? I really want you guys to go out and buy Oktoberfest, even if you don't want it, and then sell it cheap on the used market to scammers like me. I should say scabbers like me. It is important to note that Houdini's right now are going for about $5,800. That's where I'm at, baby. Okay. All right. $5,800. Does anyone have a slightly used Oktoberfest for about $5,800? Yes. Okay. All right. What is next, Ian? Twippies. Oh, the Twippies. Twippies happened. They did. We did a prediction show. When was that? Episode one. We've had so many episodes, I can't keep them straight. She's like, that sounded like we did a lot of things, didn't it? Prediction show. Our prediction show. So, Drew, you're going to love this. I actually tallied everything. Oh, you did? I did. We had a conversation earlier in the week, and Ian called me and said, uh i'm not sure who won and i'm like yeah because a lot of those are like ah no one cares about mods no one gives a shit about this yeah and we only did like what 10 12 like categories but there was like i stopped writing down sure because there was like what 20 25 we just did the main category yes we did the big ones the games pretty much yeah and uh but the funny thing about that phone call was drew i don't think you won but i don't think i won i don't know what happened uh i'll do the tally but i was like maybe you won and then he goes well he was being sweet he was like well if i won you know i don't i don't expect you to get me a bottle of booze blah blah blah so i was like oh well that's nice of him but i wanted a bottle of booze if i won god damn it right so i did the tallying so let's just go through this real quick all right so for theme best theme i had a problem last week because i was hammered i didn't know what a theme was so i went uh beatles drew in Alice Cooper. We were both wrong. It was Deadpool. Animation. Best animation. Drew said Deadpool. I said Pirates of the Caribbean. That's one point for me. Ding. Best light show. Drew went Monster Bash Remake. I went Alice Cooper. We were both wrong. It was Pirates. Toys and gimmicks. We both said Houdini. We're not a smart group, guys. What's the opposite of ding? Dong. it's pirates you know when i was watching the twippies draws i was just thinking i was like you know they were doing the top three in every category and i should have really taken this into account when they did the the voting the problem with twippies is they need to do the voting just before the show like the two weeks before the show because what happens is games like beatles suffered because there was all that Beatle hate in the beginning. Right when the Twippy voting was going, nobody wanted the Beatles. And then even nobody really has seen a lot of Alice Cooper. So I thought he didn't get a fair shot at the voting. He didn't because on Pinside he's like 150. I haven't shot that game, but there's no way that game isn't in the top 100. It looks cool. Alice Cooper. You shot El? No, no, no, I haven't. Oh, yeah. But I'm just saying, all things point to that being at least a halfway decent game. Oh, yeah. Well, Kaneda was raving about it today. Yes, I mean, but you look at it, it's beautiful, it looks cool. Supposedly the animations and stuff are really, really well done, so that game's going to be good. Things got skewed, I think, with the voting. That's a very good point. And I think that's one thing they're probably going to look at. I'd also like to see some kind of weighted average with the voting. I'd like to see some industry and designers weigh in. And it seems like, yeah, some were on a list and some weren't, like the Monster Bash remake. I mean, you have to put all the games in there. Well, they can't because it's nothing new on Monster Bash except for the two things it was up for. So, light show and animation. It's still a new game, though. I get what you're saying. I think it would be embarrassing if they lost because they lost to a game that was from 97. Step up your game, bro. Yeah. Hey, Stern, are you listening again? Yeah. Put some more stuff in your game. All right, so toys and gimmicks. It was pirates. Theme integration. Again, I didn't know what theme integration meant that last time. You picked Houdini. I picked Beatles. It was pirates. Music and sound. We both picked Iron Maiden. Ding. So Drew gets his first point. I'm at two. Call outs. Deadpool. Ding. We won that one, too. So we both got Deadpool. So Drew, you're at two. I'm at three. This is getting tight. it's a tight race are you sure you're telling these right i don't have it in front of me yeah yep rules you picked iron maiden i picked houdini uh iron maiden was the winner so ding so we're tied up three three getting excited here i am all right here we go where was i oh playfield uh best shots and layout um we both picked iron main ding ding all right so that's four four art best art man you were so fucking close dude you were so close you could have won this uh you picked deadpool i picked beatles i wasn't close by the way um it was iron main you're still not yeti sorry brother so that was a big no and then uh game of the year uh we both picked iron main ding ding we tied it up are you kidding me oh we're fist bumping that one oh man you know what fuck it nobody has to get anyone beer because we actually tied so at the end wait wait wait wait so we got five right out of like a hundred categories uh one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven categories we got five right that's pretty good i'll take it yeah that's pretty good i'll take it i think we we did okay so okay so no one won the bet so tell them what you bought for me oh i bought you uh yeah that big bottle of kessler's because it was $8. And Drew is a cheap drunk, and that prevents him from drinking my good shit when he's at my bar. As long as I keep that $8 bottle of whiskey here, my good stuff is safe. And I want to add, yes, that this Kessler thing is not a joke. It's not a shtick. It's what I drink. If I could get it in a five-gallon container, I'd get it for him. With one of those little pumps, you know, like you see in shitty stores with laundry detergent pumps. I've been drinking Kessler's for years, and it's just, I don't know, it's just a good whiskey. It is cheap. So, any questions? What did you think about some of the rookie stuff? Did you see or hear anything? Yeah. I just think that, you know, most of it was pretty spot on. Like I said, there's probably a few things they could clean up with the voting and stuff, but I think I also want to shout out for Keith Elwin as Rookie of the Year. Yeah, that was awesome. And, you know, that guy, I mean, think about it. His game won, what, six, seven, eight awards. Showed up strong. And unfortunately, he wasn't there. They had some rep from Stern or something. Mike. Mike E.D. I don't even know who that was. Nobody knows who it's just. It's Mike. He's an intern from Stern. No, he's legit, I think. But, yes, great job, Keith. Jack Danger, two in a row. Yes. My boy, Jack. We love Jack. Yep. I love you, Jack. I just want to say to all these people in the industry that you guys are all doing good work. We're all here commenting on it and talking about it and all these things. They walk the walk. Yeah. You guys are making pinball every day and doing great things. We just talk about it after the fact. Fucking idiots just drinking. Drinking and talking about it. Because why not? This is what it's all about. Oh, man. I love pinball. He loves pinball. We all love pinball. A few surprises that I thought as far as the actual awards go. Best Theme Integration. Pirates won that. A game that actually didn't have any clips from the movie. Does that make it the best theme integration? Like, they had to work extra hard to make it a Pirates game. Isn't that kind of weird? I think it's cool, but it's also like, how the hell could you vote for it? Is it just a fanboy vote? No, it is a cool Pirates game. It's a fucking awesome game. You know. It looks beautiful. It's been said before, and I'm going to, this is from somebody. You know, that game could have just been a Pirates game and been equally as good. And I believe that. You got the cool ship. You got the barrel. You got, you know, the cool shots in there. You didn't need Johnny Depp on that thing to sell. No, no. You could have just called it Pirates, and it would have been a great game. Oh, right, right. Or name a pirate. Yeah, whatever. Yeah, Blackbeard. Yeah. Yep. Captain Jack Sparrow. So, yeah. As far as theme integration, no. I think they did it. Theme. Best theme. Deadpool won. Best theme. Best theme. And you're a comic book guy. You mentioned it. I am. And it looks like the comic book. It plays like the comic book. the call outs, everything about it just the theme, the look of it the sound of it it's a comic book that's come to life so would you say the people that were bitching about it, how it's not like the movie yeah fuck them I like that, I like that answer, good job and art Iron Maiden taking it Zombie Yeti, we've talked about it Zombie Yeti and Chris Fanchi should have a draw off I know that's not a thing, but they should do it they're just awesome those guys putting their ink on anything which i also want to mention one more person that really wasn't part of this this year and that's dirty donnie i love his name by the way metallica as everyone knows is my favorite pin he did that um hey dirty donnie was representative or represented in at the Texas Pinball Festival though He did the art for Cosmic Oh yeah I saw a stream of that. That game looks beautiful. I just wish they weren't so fucking expensive, though. Everything is. Yeah, but those are like... No, not Multimorphic. Which one are you talking about? It's like the... From Suncoast Pinball? Oh, the new one. Yes, yes, yes. Sorry. Yes. He is doing the new one for Suncoast. No, Cosmic Kart Racing is... Cosmic Carnival. Yes. Oh, fuck yourself. Yeah. See, I was right. Cosmic Kart Racing is P3, Multimorphic. Cosmic Carnival is Suncoast, and they haven't released any details about it yet, right? Which one? Cosmic Carnival. No, they were playing it. Oh, they were? Yeah, it's flippable. Okay. Yeah, they had a whole setup. It was like legit. And I haven't seen that, so give me your takes on it. Real simple layout. Yep. But it was a Dirty Donnie game all day long. The artwork. Dirty Donnie is just awesome. I don't know if Dirty Donnie, like Dirty Donnie sits back and he just like, I don't know if he takes some acid or whatever, but his shit is, it's flowy and beautiful and sexy. Does it look like Aerosmith? That's what I heard. I heard that it looks a little bit like Aerosmith. Oh yeah. which that is the 70s psychedelic kind of yeah can't pressure yes yeah all that shit yeah all that shit yeah sure sure sure no it's a cool art style he said he only had like three cans in his cram box so he had to do what he had to do but oh man but yeah i thought it was uh from the stream it looked beautiful looked beautiful sure sure now do we know did did he get fired from stern or did he was he a contract see that it's always kind of in a gray area about him yeah no doubt You know, some people said he was an employee of Stern. He went to another company, got fired, whatever. Then other people are saying he was just doing contract work for Stern. Yeah. It's kind of interesting. Yeah, it's one of those things like if, you know, you get fired from a job, but your boss doesn't like, or your ex-puss doesn't say, tell other people you were fired. Yeah. Oh, he's going to explore other opportunities elsewhere. Yeah, for sure. It was very. That could possibly be something. He left kind of abruptly. because like he wasn't being used correct because aerosmith was like i think 2016 so you know he did that and then uh was can crusher the same year i think yeah i was real close to that sure and then all of a sudden yeah 17 and 18 you got um zombie yeti and franchi and then dirty donnie just kind of fades off yeah no and uh yeah then he was like fuck it suncoast needs me i'm there sure and he goes and his art then all of a sudden stern's like oh well now we can't use you well bro you got two other artists you haven't used me and and this maybe doesn't make sense but i think for stern that art style isn't as universal yeah it's not it's not as much of a stern style we're completing each other's sentences everybody i'm just i'm just forgetting shit because i'm drinking for those of you just joining us has anybody joined us there's been some romance. Hey man, the original 14 are going to be listening to this one. We're going to be up to 16 by the end of this one. Let's just keep on going. Shoot this train of movement. Good job to Zach and Jeff and Craig. Yes, you guys did an awesome job putting on that whole show and just everything you did throughout the year to get all this stuff in place. That's awesome. Yeah, from this week in pinball, I mean, you guys have just above and beyond everything. You're the reason why things are growing in this hobby. in more of a media sense. And we just appreciate all the hard work you guys put into this, definitely. Thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts. It was fun to watch that whole award ceremony, even towards the end when Greg got super fucking drunk. He didn't know what his lines were. He didn't know much else was going on. Greg, if we ever see you at a function or pinball or whatever, we want to have some drinks with you. That's happening. Yes. You seem like you... I feel like we'd have to catch up to that fucker. Yes. He's trouble. You see it in his eyes. That's why I like him. Whereas I feel like, yeah, Zach's the guy who's trying to keep the ship even keel, and then there's Greg Bone puking off the edge of the ship. And rocking the ship back and forth. Back and forth. Jeff is the one that paid for the fucking ship. Thanks, Jeff. He built the goddamn ship. Thanks again, Jeff. But then, you know, there was some little bit of drama, nothing too much. I found out today that the broken Twippy, the Christopher Franchi V. Zombie Yeti, where Christopher Franchi grabbed the trophy, the Twippy, and smashed it. It turned out that was all staged, and that was just a joke, guys. Oh, man, it was staged. Nobody get upset. That was an extra trophy that they had. and they did smash it as a joke zombie yeti will have his trophy guys so don't worry it's all legit nobody got hurt there but Kaneda our boy two twippies man Kaneda what can you say this guy causes more controversy in a amusement hobby than any person should it's like way yes crazy we're we're in a hobby where we're like what do you what do you like to do oh i like to play games okay no big deal it's just a game well kaneda flips that on his head and says i'm fucking kaneda watch me go yeah and you can talk about him being like arrogant and cocky and controversial you know you can use all these different words But at the end of the day, I think he's a good dude. And I think he really is just, sometimes he just pokes the bear too much. And that's fine. That's good. That's his shtick. I think he gets excited, man. Yes, and he does. He's super passionate. I mean, you know, he always talks about passion. But when you say passion in pinball, who's one of the first persons you point at? It's Kaneda. He is passionate. Super passionate. Everything that guy ever talks about is only because he wants it to be better. Yes. That's all it is, guys. You're right. and take a step back when you hate on him so much i want you to take a step back and realize he says this all the time he says he just wants it to get better he's gonna point out shit that you know we used to do you know williams used to do in the 90s and they just stopped they're getting away from it or whatever and he's gonna point out these companies he's gonna tell you when you're paying way too much for stern that has two flippers three pop bumpers two um ramps and an orbit you know the stern oh don't forget the the scoop you know the one mechanical yes you know yes so give it up to kaneda two in a row and that asshole that booed him well made his soul rot in hell i don't know him but whatever what what do you make about him being in that um wizard of oz presentation and not saying anything uh did you listen to his newest one i did He did talk to Jack. Yeah, he did talk to Jack. And I know he talks to some of these people, which is fine. I'm just curious as to, not even saying just to cause a controversy, but why didn't he raise his hand and say, hey, can I ask you some questions about this? Because that would have been interesting. Controversy, though. I don't know, man. He's already got Target on his back. He probably did it the right way talking to him out of public record. I'm just talking about asking some questions, not even being a jerk. just like, hey, you know, why are you guys doing this? Yeah, but you know it'll come across. You know how it'll come across. Yeah, yeah. It'll come across. You know what I'm saying, though? I mean, I would have liked to see him, like, stand up and be the reporter and ask the tough questions. I mean, you know, you strap on these headphones, you just talk about what you love. We're just having fun here. Oh, absolutely. And some people get so fucking butthurt about it. Seriously, man, there's a lot of fucking, you know. god there's a lot of internet tough guys out there you know but you see them in person they're not so and that is the thing you talk to some of these guys in person they're like oh hey how's it going you're like well weren't you the guy who told me you're gonna fuck my mother you know like come on whoa yeah whoa is right exactly jesus you want to you want a hug or something brother no no i'm good i'm good uh raise our glass let's raise our glass drew for the drunk bastards that i could tell were probably the drunkest at the Twippy Awards, and that's to you, Mr. Jack Danger, and Mr. Greg Bone. So here's to you. To Jack and Greg. Cheers to you, motherfuckers. That was entertaining as hell to watch that. Jack Danger gets up there to try to announce the nominees, and he's like, and the winner is... And they're like, just play the nominees. Jack doesn't know what's going on. So it was pretty damn funny. And that's my Twippy coverage, man. What do you think? Did I do all right? Oh, I think you did great. All right. We talked about a lot of what he said. I think everyone there did great. Yeah. Once again, just thank you guys for everything you guys do. Oh, man. That was so much fun to watch. Yeah. Great year. It got so sloppy at the end, it made it even better. And I know Zach probably cringes thinking about it a little bit, but don't. Don't. Just take it in, brother. It was perfect. And I can't wait. I hope you guys do it again next year. I know there's a lot of resources involved and probably expenses and all that stuff. I think they will. I mean, just given, you know, this week in pinball is getting a little bigger now. I think they should do some sponsorships. I bet you Deep Root and those guys will help with all that stuff. Sure. I think we're seeing little bits of growth every year. You know, I've only been a part of this for 18 months, two years, whatever, Ian maybe a little longer, but it's look at the landscape now. and uh you know little things like a couple weeks ago pinball became a thing you could bet on in the las vegas sports books i mean you know that might not seem like a big deal and they bet on they bet on everything but it's you know it's starting to make its way back into the mainstream so i'm really excited for 2019 and uh i think it's going to be great yeah i'm looking forward to the toy piece next year too so i'm excited i'm excited so uh should we talk uh podcast what happened this week so we already like dipped our toes into all this so there's a lot of stuff there that we probably shouldn't repeat but uh there are some other things that came in um came to light early last week and let's just talk about it like some reaction from you drew sure what do you got first All right, first thing, Kaneda had a rough start to his week. That is the understatement of the year. He did. He did finish strong. He got the twippy. Yes. It was a rough start. Early in the week. Yeah. We talk about controversial. We talk about things. He set the pinball world on fire. Crashed and burned, too, at the same time. Poor bastard. So what were the two things that he told the pinball public? Well, one day was that the Big Lebowski, ARA, and Dutch Pinball kind of agreed to terms and that everyone who ordered a Big Lebowski was going to get theirs. For those who don't know, Dutch Lebowski, Dutch Lebowski. Dutch Lebowski. I know that fucker. He owes me 20 bucks. But anyway, no, Dutch Pinball makes the Big Lebowski. Yes. and they hired ARA to assemble these pinball machines and ran out of money. The cash flow just dried up. Well, it sounds like they got into a dispute about how much it costs to make each game or assemble each game. It all comes down to cash flow. The cash flow was gone. And people that put their hard-earned money into that game didn't get it. Well, they gave the money to Dutch and not ARA and ARA has these, what, 40 games, is it? But it's somewhere between 40 and 100 games sitting in a warehouse and whatever. So, Kanae is saying it all happened. And then the second one was Alien Pinball. Wait, wait, wait. Back up. See, he said that the Big Lebowski was going to be, that they settled their dispute. Right. And they were going to start shipping. Yes. And that was not true in the least. No, neither one of these turned out to be true. Correct. Because Alien Pinball, he also said, was being manufactured by Chicago Gaming Company. Right. So, there you go. So, two agonizing rumors that turned out to be just that, just rumors. So, I just wanted to take a step back, Drew. He did apologize. Nope, just take a step back. Okay, step back. I'm stepping back. Thank you. Everyone just calm down. let's all just give kaneda a nice big podcast hug and tell him it's okay we love you for an alien oh big lebowski yeah hands down that don't even have to think about it see i've never played alien but all i ever hear about is how amazing that game like the uh the theme is and back up yes theme only oh if we're going theme only big lebowski okay i care less about those alien movies okay there's a ton of them yes i try to get into them like every time they're on i'm like i'm getting into them and i i don't care for them as much so um but the big lebowski it's like you watch it every time it's great so and uh but both amazing worlds under the glass they did a great job both companies did yep um to see an alien head on there to with the magnet that comes out or how they described it it seemed like it's that's got to be a cool mech and if they get to work right i'm sure it'd be fantastic yeah they have an amazing community that's like reproducing all this shit like it's crazy yeah they really really love that game so seven thousand dollars what would you rather have me i would go big lebowski just because i like that white russian in there oh man it's the only fucking reason in the bowling alley bowling alley come on you know they've had a couple bowling type pinball machines they've had ones but just have that little tiny bowling alley it's just so cool there's a lot of charm to that game yes the rug that rolls out yes i mean come on just you talk about theme integration forget about it integration oh we should have voted on it big lebowski all day integration i'm not even sure what that means still no i'm joking we're gonna be on episode 20 and ian's gonna say what the fuck is theme integration speaking of theme integration good segue my brother kaneda episode 327 uh was all about themes it was who did he have on he had uh larry dr frightner is his name on pin side yeah he's a guy he does the some of the big amusement park rides for like universal and uh just crazy stuff he's in his 40s he does all this uh you know he's obviously uh halloween like scary houses and shit too yeah yeah he's just in all this stuff he's obviously he's in all the he goes to all the trade shows yep yeah yep he uh but they talked about themes and he did all the 70s themes it was brutal it was it was they were they were off kilter that whole episode because Kaneda clearly favors themes. He's an 80s guy. He wants more 80s themes out there. Larry, on the other hand, he was talking about shit like Casper the Friendly Ghost. No, he wasn't. Caddyshack and Animal House were his two big ones. Yeah, he was 70s. He was like anything Bruce Lee. He was real into the 70s stuff and Kaneda was like, well, what about E.T.? He was talking about more of the 80s stuff. They just didn't see eye to eye on it it was a good episode but it kind of got me thinking like you know what themes that would i gravitate towards because i love i love me some bruce lee but i don't think i ever think about getting a bruce lee pin as funny as that is no and i thought about that because i'm not a huge bruce lee fan but i was like huh it's interesting but then i really thought about it and i'm like yeah i can't see how that could translate well to pinball yeah and drew and i are both you know children of the 80s so we're right there with canada as far as 80s themes go and we don't see that very often because we don't have 80s design or you know guys in their 30s designing pinball machines so these 80 themes we're still waiting patiently for our 80s themes for anyone who's listening out there uh send us your top dream themes please poor man's pinball at gmail.com yeah poor man's pinball gmail.com but yeah we would love to hear from you because Because I'm thinking themes in general. I mean, some of my dream themes. Give me three that you can think of off the top of your head that you want to see that haven't been done. Well, all right. All right. But they're my dream themes. Yes. Okay. This is Ian's dream themes. You're going to shit on them. You're shitting on my dreams, bro. All right. So number one. I'll go three to one. How about that? One being. Sure. I would buy it instantly. I'd max out all my credit cards for that number one. Number three. We'll go number three. Big Trouble, Little China. I know it's been said before lots of times. Cool, cool theme. I just think there's a lot of color. There's a lot of color to that theme. Those movies, there's a lot of neon they used. So you can do some EL rope there. Get some really nice bright lights there. um you know the pork chop express you have all the just the different asian architecture kind of things and and then of course he got one of the best call out you know guys in the in all of movies jack burton you know and jack burton all he does he doesn't even have like normal ass lines like a normal movie star does no everything was like a line you know they're like they're trying to get into the building and you know instead of saying hey man this is our plan we should go in there i'm going to pretend to be a phone repair man let's go in there and see what's going on no the line is this is going to take cracker jack timing what the fuck does that mean doesn't mean anything that's why jack burton's awesome so yeah big trouble little china number three number two i uh oh number two i i i'm torn a little bit but i think i would like to see them revisit predator i really do i think predator has a lot going for it i know i saw it on the alien yeah i know i saw it on alien but i think the arnold one you know i want to get to the choppa all right and i want to get to the choppa hardcore sure um i wouldn't mind a vaulted ghost busters either though but you know something in that lines like i'd like them to rework ghost busters because i think that's still a great theme uh back to the future is to be you know Rewind to the Ghostbusters. That's a rewind sound, but it's an inside joke. Don't worry about it. Don't worry about it. I'm going to say Predator or Back to the Future. With the Ghostbusters, do you think, you know, there's been a lot of talk that should have been Stern's first LCD release because it was in 2016. They obviously had the technology. Would you like to see them do Ghostbusters with an LCD? Yes. Without the flipper gap? I'm not a big fan of big gaps, man. You know this about me. Where's our rim shot? Oh, that's what she said. We knew that. Too much. Okay. So for me, it's... I got to get my number one. Oh, yeah. Sorry. Number one, max out my credit cards, Labyrinth. 100% Labyrinth, David Bowie, Giant Crotch, the Goblin King. There's the Goblin Army. You got to get through the Labyrinth. David Bowie soundtrack. I mean, there's nothing that I would want more. I want Christopher Franchi doing the art. I already have it all planned out. I have to write it down on a David Hankin. So you want Stern to do that one? No, I want Christopher Franchi to do it. Christopher Franchi, if you are listening, we need you to design Labyrinth today. Don't worry. I'll put it on a David Hankin. I'll send it over to you. He still has to friend me, though. He hasn't befriended me on my Facebook yet. Christopher Franchi, we're backing up one step. Please friend us on Facebook. Friend us. I got a David Hankin for you. Trust me, it's gold. And pinball's easy, bro. So make it. Pinball's easy. How about you, man? Okay. So here, for me, it's kind of unique. Here's why. My three dream themes. This is crazy. My three dream themes. Oh, you fucker. I know what you're going to say. Go ahead. What do you think I'm going to say? you're gonna say back to future three back to future two and back to future one no not at all i know that was really shot okay i don't know you you ready so i don't even think you've seen those why have you ever seen those movies oh all the time my son watches them all the time okay um for me it's unique and interesting because my three dream themes have already been done not once check this out all three of them have been done twice you ready for this star wars star wars has been done twice hold on uh indiana jones no that's not your dream team you don't even know indiana i don't know keep going what are the other simpsons oh yeah yes and and and this the simpsons pinball party's good it's on my short list but um been done twice and spider-man the amazing spider-man gottlieb from the 80s which looks awesome oh man I love the look of that game. I want to buy that game just to put it in my room. Yeah, it could be an empty cabinet, man. Yes, yes. That game, you talk about Deadpool comic, that game just screams Spider-Man comics. It's beautiful. Oh, it's awesome. So, yeah, all three of those themes have been made twice. Yes. And the games are okay, but they don't wow me. You know what I mean? It just hasn't. And that's the problem. It is. With dream themes slash your grail, whatever you want to call it, there's a lot of emphasis on getting it just right. That's like fucking Kiss of Death is the guy who does the Harry Potter games. Oh my god. Because they'll never do them to the point. Especially if Stern has a license. I was thinking about this. Yes. What are there, six, seven, eight books? I don't even know how many books there are. I think there's eight movies, seven movies. Can you break it into like, couldn't you do something like this? and I don't ever hear anyone talk about this but if you have the Harry Potter's license and you're worried about fitting it all in why can't you make a series of pinball machines? Why can't you do three machines and break the story up into three parts boom, you got three different machines. Pirates could add five machines that no one would have bought. They wouldn't have made them. They'd be awesome but they wouldn't stop making them. Okay, but my... Nice three nice themes. No, they are, but my three themes that haven't been made, and I think people should start looking at, you know, going back to the 80s thing, because, yes, I am a child of the 80s. He-Man. Yes. I really think having a cool Castle Grayskull, or what was the snake... Skeletor? Yeah what was his mountain Snake Mountain Sorry Fuck I didn even remember that Snake Mountain that good man Snake Mountain that would be cool You could have maybe both like half of each on the play field Very cool And then I feel the power. Everyone keeps talking about Mario Brothers and Zelda, and I'm on board with that, but here's the thing. Here's the catch for me. It's got to be 8-bit. Yeah, absolutely. Right? I'd agree. It's got to be cheesy 8-bit graphics. you can do some updated stuff make it cool whatever have mario break the fourth wall kind of like deadpool in debt in the the recent stern release but you need some some cool 8-bit graphics what do you think i agree i agree if you're going to do zelda you got to do the original oh man that would be so cool you go through the castle you know but then on the screen you have the 8-bit zelda playing i had just an amazing idea drew you know how you start the game with three hearts those are your balls right three balls oh okay and you can gain more balls yes oh see your extra balls are your hearts as you go through the dungeons you collect hearts i love it and our new tagline for the show stern are you listening are you listening we don't trust those other guys clearly because and here's why because even though stern doesn't make the the you know deepest games at the most max at least they're putting out more games so yeah stern get that license that that's a fantastic idea and i love that thank you um one one theme i would like to be i would like to see and it's kind of in the same thing you know in the 80s i don't know how many of you guys out there know this but in the 80s they would make um cartoons and comics and that was a way of selling that was the way of selling the actual toys they made the money selling the toys but they couldn't what they couldn't do is put them on tv syndication as far as commercials go you can't have an animation of the toys you're going to be playing um because it's unfair representation you know that's why they're the gi joe cartoon series so they can sell more and more gi joes and that's where i'm getting at i would love love love love to see with G.I. Joe pinball. Oh, 80s style cartoon G.I. Joe, yes. At the end of every ball, or maybe at the end of every game, they do a service announcement. Yes. That's what they used to do back in the day. Don't do drugs, kids. If you see someone smoking a cigarette, tell an adult. The more you know, Yo Joe, or whatever they used to say. Yes, yes. Yeah, that's what I would like. I'm with you. So G.I. Joe, He-Man, Transformers. Yeah, that's another one. They did the cartoon thing. They did the same thing. There's so many cartoons that they did for toys. My Little Pony. Thundercats. Hey, man, did you ever see that preview? Or that preview. That documentary about the bronies? Yes. Yes, I did. It's not funny, man. It's serious. They take it serious. They take it real serious to all the bronies out there. You're fucking weird, man. Yeah. Yeah, I can't say. I'm not going to make fun of him, but no, wait, I am. I made fun of him. That's weird, man. It is. Come at me, bro. Poor man's pinball. Come at me with your rainbow sword. I'll see him coming. I'm not too worried about it. All right, so that's Kaneda. We did some themes there. Cool, cool, cool. And I don't think they mentioned those themes, so we did good. Head to head. Tell me about these Australians that we love so much. Oh, head to head. poor ryan c man ryan c ryan c we were giving him shit for not being on his own show but uh you know he uh he laid it out on his last podcast and uh uh we respect the hell out of the guy and he had some uh some uh you know some there's some illness in the family you know there's a few people that are sick i guess and and uh that poor bastard's going through that and and you know what and this podcast thing there there it does take up a lot of time and you know he was very he was very candid about um you spend time with your family or do you spend time doing a podcast you know about pinball so god bless him i'm i'm glad he was back for that episode i hope he's back full time now but if not ryan you're you're in our thoughts and that show as much as we love marty we've said it in episode one as much as we love you marty um you guys work great together for anyone who hasn't listened to head to head or spent any time with those guys from Australia I encourage you to go to Pinside go to the podcast forum and find Ryan C's first post his name is Falcon Punch it's not dirty no and he thought it was dirty this this is this is what he posted before he started the the podcast and it was you know several paragraphs long about what they who they were and what they were going to do and this guy just bleeds passion it was so cool to read it i just read it the other day for the first time and it was just this awesome great thing about you know there's no you know great pinball podcast in australia and we're gonna do this and and just like i said the passion that comes out of that guy it's just awesome so ryan c way to be back marty i think you're my hero marty i i just love listening to marty all day long i i don't care it's just he's just funny to me marty's cool shit man he really is they're good guys yes they take the they take the piss out of everything you know they're kind of like us where we're not yes they don't shit isn't life seriously life or death it's yes it's three ball bearings in a box you know what i'm saying yeah with some lights yeah you're right we're just sitting here spending hard-earned money on on a on a hobby that was most popular in the 80s and 90s and we're just trying to keep it alive man keep it alive so guys we love you good job guys head to head keep keep listening to head to head hey i wanted to i didn't we didn't put this on our notes but i didn't want to talk about it since we are both wearing their shirts we are yes please special and lit podcast now you guys just keep growing on me uh i want to say a special thank you to um ken cromwell he helped me with uh some of the audio issues we are having this week i hope we sound better today uh thanks ken thanks but no uh we do both have his shirt on actually it's And we didn't plan this. I come to Ian's house, and we're both wearing the Special Win Lit. It's so comfortable, man. The shirt. Pinball podcast shirt. They just started selling them about, what, two weeks ago, three weeks ago? Yeah, $30. But you can't put a price on comfort. They don't sell these enough. These are comfortable shirts. Correct. So anyone who's out there in pinball land, look up Special Win Lit podcast. Listen to it. Buy some shirts from these guys. They're beautiful shirts. There's a Tiki-style pinball machine, Tiki head on the pinball machine. Awesome, old-school EM reels and a caricature of a beautiful Hawaiian luau girl with coconut bra. Just a great, great T-shirt. Very cool. Can I reveal something to you? Reveal away. I'm a little embarrassed, but I'm going to go with it anyway. Okay. So remember a couple weeks ago they said there was like a hidden Easter egg in plain sight? Yep. So I was looking at this shirt. Now the hidden Easter egg, if you're unfamiliar with what I'm talking about, is actually the score reel. So that's actually the date where Roger Sharp made the famous shot that saved pinball. It's 0476. Yeah. For those out there in pinball land. That's not what I was looking at. Okay. And I wanted to post it, and I just never had the time to post it. But when I look at the shirt, and, you know, this is only going to do it justice if I, like, pull up a picture. And it's not going to translate well for podcasting, but I'll do it for Drew's sake here. But I'm going to do it anyway. And then you just get to see his reaction, all right? So you get to hear what his little reaction is for this. So here we go. This isn't a great picture, dude, but you're going to get it, all right? So this was what I thought the Easter egg was. So what am I showing you, Drew? A back glass of World Cup soccer. Back glass of World Cup soccer, folks, right? Yeah. I swear to God, that dog's nose was this girl's left tit. I'm pretty sure. Look at that tit and look at his nose. Oh, my God. It even has the two eyes. I mean, they're, like, supposed to be a bra strap. Okay. But now all I see is a dog on this girl's left tit. He's right. I cannot unsee it now. Because basically, you know, the shirt's in, like, blue and black, and her coconut bra is black, like the dog's nose. And it's got a little light shading on the top, just like the nose. Oh, my God. Now I cannot unsee that. Well, all I see is World Cup soccer. Yeah, there's a beautiful woman and a dog's nose on her breast. Yes. Nice. Left tit, World Cup soccer. Easter egg number two solved. Yes. I didn't know if there was a number two, but Ken? So, Special Win Lit, we found another Easter egg in your shirt. And you didn't know about it. But Special Win Lit guys, we do love you. This is fantastic. Shirt's cool. You guys, your podcast is awesome. And they're always trying to steer the ship to what the listener wants. And Drew and I are far too lazy for that shit. We're just going to keep doing this. We are going to keep talking about pinball. We're not going to stop because we do. See, here's the thing about... You know he's drinking because he says shit like this. Here's the thing. Here's the thing about all us podcasters. And now I'm officially a podcaster. Because we're on episode two. Number two, bitches. Number two. We all kind of have the same goal. We just kind of get there in a different way. You know what I mean? Our goal, once again, to entertain, to spread pinball to the community. I mean, we have friends that look at us like we're fucking crazy. Shit, we have wives that look at us like we're fucking crazy. That's why we made the pinball. That is. But the fun part, when we said the fun part about pinball, you know, we're sweet about it. but Ian and I talk about it and we go back and forth and people are like what are you talking about and we're like Timbo what are you talking about because we love it and you can't explain it to somebody they think you're nuts and that's fine it's just like any other hobby but we just love talking about it we love doing it so that's what we're doing I'm not going to go on any more of a tangent that's where we're at sweet sweet alright man cool okay so we got a couple things so anyway yeah like and subscribe to Special Inlet and definitely listen to those guys listen to Head to Head listen to Kaneda And how can they get a hold of us, Ian, if they want to talk to us? We have a broke-ass Facebook group. We do. We do. We're working on that. PoorMansPinball at gmail.com. PoorMansPinball at gmail.com. That is the one. Drop us a line. Say, hey, man, we're out there and we're listening. And we want your honest feedback. We think we suck. Tell us we suck. Is this really bad? If you think we're awesome, you probably won't say that because we're not. But just let us know. It's like Angie's listening. it it's like you don't post shit on angie's list unless you're pissed off at a contractor you don't log on and do the whole thing just to say hey they weren't bad no no you do the effort because you're pissed they said something that pissed you off anyway so all right let's let's move on we're wrapping her up here yeah we got a couple of things here so real quick uh last week stern pinball shared a post i just thought it was interesting i put it in our notes it's it's basically a post uh it says the toys live in a pinball machine and it's a picture of supposedly the new toy story movie where they're literally inside a pinball machine um you know hanging out partying whatever and what jack danger put this up i think dead flip yep yep that would be jack yep uh you know do we think it's just a random post you know do we think there's anything to it Yeah, probably random, but just kind of neat, kind of interesting, because even if it doesn't mean anything, it's just cool to see more pinball in mainstream stuff. Absolutely. So I just put it in there because I think it's kind of cool. You guys can check it out in our notes when we figure out how to post notes because we're new to this podcast. Oh, I can post some notes. Okay. I can do that. Then it will be in the show notes. No, I won't. That's a lot of effort. This, I can do it. Do I want to do it? Control V? Control P. Alright, you got me. Okay. So anyways, like I said, it's just kind of neat. Toy Story 4 is coming out, what, this summer, I think. I don't know. You like those movies? Oh, I love them. You like that idea of a pin? Oh, I could be a day one buyer if the time's right. Really? Wow. Yeah. I know they're adult themed and all that stuff. And I get it. I just... Man, I don't know. man i like my shit dark i guess i like i like the scary stuff yeah and that's cool it's too maybe it's just i know it's not i understand that the the adult themes but i don't know if that's my cup of tea i just think you know once again kind of looking at this picture here it's like you know you got these these toys from our youth right mr potato head uh you know slinky whatever if you could put those in a pinball machine that would be kind of cool i gotcha no i get it Especially with the Jersey Jack screen. Hey, man. Like I said, I get it because those movies are extremely popular. Yes. Let's be honest. I mean, you know, Jersey Jack hasn't done everything 100% right, but one thing they do really well every time is they make these good-looking games that have cool stuff in them. Period. The end. Let's do it. Let's do it. Let's see. What new game should Drew get? Let's play that game. So Drew's been searching for a new game for a while, and there's all this new stuff coming out. So I'm kind of waiting, but I'm always looking because I can always sell and upgrade, whatever. So here's my list that I have so far. Once again, poormanspinball at gmail.com. Chime in. Let me know what you think. But here's the list. Star Wars Premium. Star Wars, when I first played it. You always play the pro. Always the pro. You go on location. Always the pro. Fucking pro, pro, pro, pro, pro. Yes, yes, yes. And that from straight down the middle swears by the premium. Yes, yes. We need to get our hands on a premium. We do. We do. And there's a place. Just a play. There's a place not far from here that has one, so we'll have to check that out. That's the only place, though, within a 100-mile radius that has it. So, anyways, I played a lot of Star Wars Pro. I like it. The Hyperloop. Like I said, this is a dream theme for me. The game could use some more mechs, but it's still a fun shooting game. It flows well. Steve fucking Ritchie. Yeah. Steve Ritchie played better, motherfuckers. Okay. Also on the list, I got two Jersey Jack games. I never watched all the Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, but The Hobbit game just really kind of, it's just a great looking game. I played it a few times. It's cool. It's deep. Long ball times. It's a deep game. I could play it. I think I could hit that start button a lot. Dialed in, same kind of thing. It's just, you know, but the theme, I'm a little stuck on the theme because it's not great, obviously, but great fucking game. You know, make that any other theme and everyone's buying it. Paint it blue. Paint it blue. I'm going to paint it blue and make it Jaws. Batman 66. Yeah, I know Ian likes that one. I think it's a beautiful game. my only thing with Batman 66 is I feel like that is 100% code like there's not a lot to shoot for and that's my hang up with that that would be the one problem I'd have with that but it is a beautiful game and I love the theme I know I'm an 80's child but Batman 66 that's a universal oh right we did Nick and Night Baby had that shit on all the time that and Mr. Ed I don't want that to be a thing TNA once again not a very complex game We love you, Charlie. It's an ass-kicker. It's a cool game. You can play it with your friends. Now they have the co-op mode. How cool is that? It's pretty cool. How shitty is it that it's 2019 and there's only one game with a co-op mode? Multimorphic does. Okay, how cool is that it's 2019 and there's only one? Cosmic Cart Razor. Okay, they're working on it, but I'm just... No other pinball. You know, it's crazy. It is. It's asinine. It is. It's Asinine. Asinine is the word. Correct. And then Game of Thrones Pro. Another Steve Ritchie. Yes. Okay. It's fast. It shoots well. There's not a lot on it, but it's a fun game. Man, that game is fun. It is. I love playing that game. Yes. We have one in, we have an up-down here in Milwaukee, and they have a Game of Thrones Pro. Yeah, for anyone across the country that has an up-down, go check it out. Yeah, those are pretty fucking cool. They're a franchise. There's one in Chicago, I think. Minneapolis. Yeah. Yeah. yeah up down is a is a neat i'm pretty sure they've been there if they're listening to this they've been sure sure but uh so anyways game of thrones star wars premium dialed in batman 66 tna game of thrones pro no i was just gonna say game of thrones pro was one of those games where i didn't think much of until i actually sat down and played it and oh my god i had a lot of fun it's it's just fun i didn't figure out the rule set yes correct it's that's one of those things It's like you probably have to figure it out. Guess who coded that? Dwight Sullivan. Yes, guess who coded Star Wars? Dwight Sullivan. Yeah, guess who coded TNA? Scattanesi. No, it's probably Dwight Sullivan. No, TNA. I'm just kidding. Scattanesi. Scattanesi. No, but yeah, a lot of these. Dwight Sullivan, he did Simpsons Pinball Party. He did, yeah, Munsters. he tries to do these crazy things with multipliers and this and that some of it's fun most of it's fun I dig it some of it's just a little over complicated for my taste but we'll see so poormanspinball at gmail.com let us know what you think alright let's do this new segment you want to do a new segment I'm loving new segments this might actually be like an every episode segment just because it's so ridiculous and stupid, but I think it's funny. This is Ian's brainchild, by the way. All right, most of these games that we play are going to be my brainchild. This isn't a game. This is just something that we need to do. I don't know why. So this new segment I have today is called Love Letters. You feeling that, Drew? Do you feel the love? Oh, I'm always feeling the love, baby. yes yes this is we're gonna get some music in here cue the music everybody just listen to this but here's the thing just because these people don't know us quite yet you're ruining it oh i'm not ruining shit explain to our listeners what love letters is all about no no they're gonna know no explanations needed when it comes to the love oh that's even worse okay no explanations this is just our but it helps if we talk like this this is just our confessions of love to random things in the industry that we love so much and I think you guys are really going to appreciate it so Drew do you want to start us off with our very first love letter? I'm ready remember to talk like this I knew this was going to happen. I knew as soon as I wrote this. As soon as I wrote this, that was actually my first thought. I'm like, we're going to talk about editing it, and then we're going to laugh hysterically because it's so ridiculous. But we're leaving it in because this is perfect. Oh, we're leaving this long? Oh, yeah. We're leaving the whole thing in. Okay. Okay. This is my love letter Starting over I'm going to try to get through this Without smirking once I won't even look at you I won't look at you, I won't touch you This week's love letter Is to the freshly waxed playfield Dear freshly waxed playfield I love how you smell And I especially love the way you feel I also really love the way it feels when my smooth balls glide across you. I can sense their bond every time I push your buttons. No matter how old you get, it always feels like the first time. I love you so much, Freshly Wax Playfield. Please don't ever change. Love, Drew. I got through that without laughing. My love letter, here we go. My dear, dear, sweet, for the award show. When I first laid eyes on Zach and Greg sitting in the basement of excellence, I knew I wanted to know more about you. Who put you together? Who molded you into that beautiful flower you have become? I loved seeing you in all of your glory this past Saturday on Twitch to see how skillfully you maneuvered all the different awards using amazing guest presenters. even the very drunk ones. I love you, and I can't wait to see you again soon. Hugs and kisses. Alright, that was Love Letters, everybody. You guys feeling good out there? Now we're one of those 90s radio talk shows from 9 o'clock at night. What's her name, Delilah? Oh my god. and this is why we have alcohol on this show. To make it as ridiculous as we can. So that was called Love Blenders. And that was episode two. We're done, bro. We got it. We made it. Close it up. It's been like two hours. Has it been that long? Well, this is more editing, man. We're at an hour and 43 minutes. Oh, awesome. We killed it. We did. We had a lot to talk about this week. We really did. The trick in the TPF. Yeah, this will easily get edited down to maybe an hour and a half. But yeah, this is going to be a big one. Yeah. Good episode two. Strong. I love it. Do you feel good about it? I do. I feel great. Do you feel good? I feel real good about it. So what do we have in store for episode three? Episode three. Oh man. I have no idea. Maybe we'll talk a little bit more about Black Knight. We'll have more details coming soon on that. Because that may be revealed tomorrow they said. Say that. Yep. Black Knight stuff and who knows. Maybe some more podcast drama. We never know. And we could probably play a game too i got a couple things lined up so stay tuned for episode three uh hopefully next week this time so thanks guys thanks a lot we'll talk to you soon
