She's all you'd ever want. She's the kind I'd like to flaunt and take to dinner. But she always knows her place. She's got style. She's got grace. She's a winner. She's a lady. It's time for another Pinball Profile. I'm your host, Jeff Teels. You can find our group on Facebook. We're also on Twitter at Pinball Profile. Email us pinballprofile at gmail.com. And please subscribe on either iTunes, Stitcher, or Google Play. She has taken the pinball world by storm. A legend in her own mind, but honestly, in the minds of many of us pinball players and podcasters. We love her honesty. We love her enthusiasm. The language is a little saucy at times, but that doesn't matter. That's what makes her Mrs. Pin, and she's our special guest here on the Mother's Day edition of Pinball Profile. Mrs. Pin, hello and welcome. Hi, Jeff. How are you? I'm good. How are you? It's great to talk to you. I get such a kick out of your episodes. Also, like myself, you know, they're short and sweet. Yours are insanely funny. I'll just go by the last one I heard. And by the time this airs, there could have been two, three. Who knows how many come out? But the one I heard was episode 16, and we saw a new side of Mrs. Pinn, and it's a poetic gem. My goodness, that beatnik thing you did there, it reminded me of So I Married an Axe Murderer. You know, woman, woman. Anyway, that was incredible. Thanks so much. You know, I'm thinking about quitting my day job and just taking up slam poetry. And was that an actual bongo in there you were hitting? Let me tell you. I'm going to give you some secrets here, Jeff. It was a book of my daughter's with two pencils and a pill bottle of Tylenol. Sure, it was Tylenol. I'm not kidding. I'm really not kidding. You have to listen. Episode 16, A New Side of Mrs. Pinn. I mean, who is this Mrs. Pinn we want to know? How did she get started? And we kind of got that explanation in your first ever episode. Your husband, Dr. Pinn, who we'll hear from in a second, is a big pinball buff. And, you know, I try to get my wife into pinball, and she likes the people. No question about that. Loves it. Not so much the games, just not really into the competition or maybe the hours that it takes. But she likes it. I like it. And she certainly likes the people that she's met. Was that the case for you, or was it, I actually like playing this game? No, I actually did like playing the game. I was kind of at a 1-800-PIN-SANITY moment with Dr. Pin on the night that this whole podcast started going down. It was more of like a, we have a few hours to be together as husband and wife, and we're hanging out because our kids are sleeping. And he was like, honey, I just want to let you know that I'm going to want to watch the Texas Pinball Convention live stream on Twitch. And I was like, wow. No, it was, that's kind of how it started. But before that even started, we started going on these pinball adventures with our girls. And they would just take us all over the state into New York when we went to visit my parents. We went into Delaware and New Jersey because the borders of those states aren't super far from us. And we kind of just made it a family thing. And then the one night I just got a little bit of pin sanity. and so I started this podcast and the rest is history. You're just talking to your phone and there's no shortage of things to say. You're just saying what you see, questioning who are these people. The first one ever you were talking about George Gomez, who's this guy or whatever, and Jack Danger and all these kind of things. It was pretty neat and you know what it did? I laugh now because I'm obviously somebody on the inside who knows all these people, but I was there just four years ago doing the exact same thing you were doing, just not brave enough to admit that I didn't know who everyone was. There are. So honesty has a lot of pros and cons. I mean, it's wonderful to be able to get your feelings out there and let people know what you know. But on the flip side of that coin, sometimes you look a little bit foolish. So, you know, it is what it is. When I'm in my room and I'm recording on my phone and it's just me and maybe a cat or two and Dr. Pin here, it's great. But then I see that my latest podcast episode has gotten like 800 and something hits in 24 hours. It gets a little bit scary that people actually listen to what I'm saying. You know, it's pros and cons, Jeff, pros and cons. I think people love your honesty. I think also you're covering an area that there's been a big void in too. And as it is Mother's Day today, it's women in pinball. And there are certainly a lot of amazing women in pinball. And I think there could be more. It's just for whatever reason, we're not getting the numbers. I was at Indisc in California. It was one of the largest women's tournaments that I had ever seen, and there's a big one coming up in the Northwest, too. They're giving away a Hobbit machine to the Women's Championship. That is a huge prize, and kudos to everyone involved there, Dave Stewart and some of the people there. Thankfully, we're seeing more women come to the forefront in pinball, and you're a big part of that. I am touched, truly. I think it's awesome. I think it's one of the things that it's probably the best thing about the Mrs. Pin podcast is that it's bringing attention to something that in general in life needs more attention, and that's awesome women. So I'm proud of that. It's awesome. And you cover that every single week. You highlight a certain woman, and we will call it WOMP. We will not describe what WOMP stands for. I have no idea. Something of women of mother something pinball. But that's a great feature, too, because I bet you're getting a lot of feedback from people saying, hey, you should nominate such and such. And you're getting to learn more amazing women in pinball as well. It's totally true. And I get these emails or messages, and I freaking love them. I think they're great. I think that it is. I have been very honest about how I don't know much about pinball. I've learned a little bit in the time since this podcast started, but I can use all the help I can get. So when I reached out and said, hey, let me know if you know any WOMPs, shoot me a message. It was amazing. I've got WOMPs for days, Jeff. It's awesome. And that's the great thing about your podcast. You might just put out several podcasts in a few days. I love that about you, too. So you're from Hershey, Pennsylvania. We heard you talk, obviously, on your podcast, but you were recently on Slam Tilt with Ron and Bruce, and you got to meet them at Allentown. I can't believe you're from Hershey, Pennsylvania. They didn't mention once about the Hershey Highway or being near Intercourse, Pennsylvania or Blue Balls or whatever that town is. They stayed away from that. That was shocking, a missed joke for the guys at Slam Tilt. I don't know. I'm not sure if they were completely aware. They never asked me specifically about any of those crazy towns. So I don't know. I mean, they just never brought it up, so I didn't either. It not something I generally start conversations with or anything here Jeff you know Well on behalf of my good friends Ron and Bruce oh my I had to throw that in Oh my You know I once had to go to this is going back years and years ago, I thought I went to the weirdest town I've ever been to, just by name alone. It was a big magic gathering, not the game magic, but actual magic, magicians. And it's kind of where all magicians go to learn the secrets. I'm not a magician, but I'm in the media, So I got a media pass, and I went with a buddy who's really into magic. And they said, look, do you want to go to this thing? Because you're going to learn everything. So if you watch David Copperfield, you'll probably know how he does every single thing. But anyway, the town was Colon, Michigan. Colon? Oh, that's so pretty. Nothing like seeing a sign, you are now entering Colon, Michigan. Of course I had to stop. I'm not sure where they get these ideas. Like, where do these towns come from? I feel like it's some kind of giant punk. Like, you know, you're getting punked. But it's not. Intercourse Pennsylvania is for real. It is right next to Blue Ball Pennsylvania. And you see things driving down the street like Blue Ball Fire Department and Blue Ball Post Office. And you're like, what the heck is going on in this state? It is so ridiculous. It's crazy. But your state also hosts a great event that you were just at, Allentown, where congratulations, by the way, you kicked the living hell out of seven players at that tournament. Jeff, I am so proud of myself. I can't even handle it. I'm not joking. I left that, and you would have thought I won the lottery. And I called my mom, and she was like, how did you do in the tournament, honey? And I was like, Mom, I came in 95th place. Aren't you so proud of me? And I was legit excited, and my mom was super excited for me, too. It was awesome. Top 100, Mrs. Penn. That's pretty darn good if you ask me. Top 100. Forget how many are in it, just to say top 100. I'll take it. Yeah, you deserve that cow award, by the way. I want that trophy. I mean, it's amazing. That cow trophy, it was so great. I heard you also had a lot of good swag as well. I did have a few things. I love a project, Jeff. And so because I'm home with my kids, again, another blessing and a curse. But most of the time we have like arts and crafts time. And so recently it's been a lot of Womp swag in arts and crafts time. It's been awesome. Do the kids ask what Womp is? We don't really touch that one. Like they just kind of – they've grazed over it. They don't really go into that and we don't either. It's just the unmentionable zone. Women of mummy's pinball. There you go. Exactly. There's a nice little white lie to tell them. They don't need to know. Nope, they don't. They don't need to know. I do keep it very PC around my children. I hope everybody knows. And I just use the podcast as somewhat like swear therapy. It's great. It is swear therapy. I think Quentin Tarantino is about to hire you to write the next script of his next movie because you drop a few bombs in there. Let me tell you, Mrs. P. Quentin, I'm looking for a day job. Give me a ring. You know what I'm saying? Does Samuel L. Jackson have you on speed dial? I'm looking for a line here. I wish. I wish he did. No. Nope, he doesn't. A little birdie told me that you asked someone how to prep for this interview on Pinball Profile, and you contacted Ryan C. from Head to Head Pinball. What did Ryan say? Ryan had lots to say, Jeff. He is a talkative guy. I don't know. I mean, he wanted to know, does everyone on earth tease you about your bubble gum bum? I know. And he also wanted to know if you hold the record for eating the most fast food while driving without spilling. It's an art. It really is. It is. He thinks that the world should also know what happened at the Las Vegas Convention in 1999, and he wanted me to ask you how you got into pinball. Of course he did. That's his go-to question. I know. We will leave the Vegas 1999 Convention alone. Thank you, Ryan C., for opening that can of worms. What else? You'll be happy to know I asked, and he refused to tell me. I might tell you off air. But I doubt I will. I was like, what happened? You might have a way of getting that on a podcast. I don't know if I want to reveal that to you. I'm not going to lie, Jeff. If you tell me something, it might get on the podcast. So you might not want to tell me. Never going to know. Too bad. So sad. If we talk off the record, I would, of course, take that to my grave. Listen. No, you never know. Do you worry at all? I heard you talk about Allentown and the lovely experience you had at the Ramada Inn. And maybe one of the women that worked at the bar there who might have called the police. And you had a few colorful words for her. Do you ever worry about, I hope I didn't slander. I hope I didn't, I mean, you didn't say a person's name. So it could be anybody, but it could be fictional. But do you worry about, you know, I better watch what I say. I know I do. I know I'm going to pull back. Well, now I do. Thanks so much, Jeff. Oh, don't change. Don't change. I am going to not sleep tonight over this. Thank you so much. Well, I just... It's like your podcast interview parting gift. It's an intervention, Mrs. Finn. Listen... Well, it is good to be aware. It is, for sure. No, I don't worry too much. I do not get very upset very often. It's usually little stupid things. And I was very upset after that because I was drinking a glass of ice water, Jeff. I don't know if you caught that part, but I was just trying to hydrate, and accusations were made, and people were not very nice. And again, I did not start it. So, you know, it's just tough. That's tough for me. People should be kind in life, and I guess maybe this will teach me to be a little kinder on my podcast when I'm ranting and raving about something silly. No, don't change. Please. I love the honesty. I think it was so funny. I just thought, as I'm listening, I'm kind of biting my tongue. I'm like, she's not going to say, oh, she won't. And I was like, wow. No, no, no, no, no. Again, no names are mentioned. It can be fake. It's when you call people out. It's very fake, yep. I always worry about that, right? Like, I mean, listen, off air, talking one-on-one, you can say whatever you want. But, you know, when you're putting yourself out there, I know I worry about, okay, am I saying the right, I don't want to offend anyone. But I also want to be honest, too. And I think that's the key. Yeah. Yeah, it's tough. We, when I was going through, and I told the story a little bit on my last podcast, but when I was trying to tell the story of John Papadiuk, it was something that was kind of fascinating to me. And, and the whole idea of somebody handing over their money for a machine that they never get is just kind of like that doesn really happen in other realms of of life at least not in my life And so I was trying very hard to tell the story but I was a little bit concerned about the slander issue And I wanted to tell it truthfully but at the same time, I didn't want anyone's feelings to be hurt or anyone to feel silly or bad about it. I mean, the whole point of the entire podcast is for learning and fun. And it is that it's a tricky, it's a tricky thing sometimes. Well, Mrs. Penn, I love that you are always honest. That is one of the greatest redeeming things about your show and even on your Facebook group. And truer words have never been spoken when you figured out my doppelganger. Oh, yes. Yes, that's true. Initially, I just did those because I couldn't remember who everybody was. And have you noticed that every other person in Pinball's name is Jeff? I mean, I just have to put that out there. It doesn't make it any easier to remember who people are. And then half of the pinball world also has facial hair sometimes. So that also makes it a little difficult for people who are trying to learn what people look like and put faces to names and names to podcasts and podcasts to company. There's a lot of stuff to learn. That's why I have flashcards. Well, Mrs. Pin, first of all, I'm probably the oldest, so I was the first, Jeff. And secondly, the facial hair is there to hide my big nose and double chin. Oh, okay. Well, that's good to know. Maybe I should grow some facial hair. I don't think you need to worry about it. No, not quite yet. So I see that you're pretty excited about going to Pinburg, and obviously everyone is excited to go to Pinburg. This is your first time. It is. I am so excited. I've been to Pittsburgh multiple times in my life, but this will be the first time I have gone for pinball reasons. What are you more excited about, the people, the tournament, or that little thing called the Trash Talker Invitational, which you were one of the first invites, by the way. I know. I was shocked. Dr. Pin was driving, and we almost got into an accident. He was so excited. Obviously, I was excited, too. But I told him, I was like, hey, so I just got invited to this thing called the Trash Talker's Invitational. What the heck is that? And I had no idea, and he just like, it was awesome. I don't know what I'm most looking forward to. I think, number one, I am just really excited to be able to go with Dr. Pin and not have to worry about the kids. Because typically when we go someplace and play pinball, their attention spans aren't always the best. And I want Dr. Pin to be able to play and to have a really good time. And so I usually fall on the sword. So it's kind of a bummer sometimes. And I'm super excited so that we can just have some quality time. and everybody in pinball is so flippin' nice. It's unreal. So I'm really excited about that. And I'm not afraid to talk a little trash, so I'm excited about the TTI, too. We'll see. We'll see how it goes. I think it's all going to be amazing, to be quite honest. I'm going to be skipping the TTI, but I'm excited for people like yourself. Oh, man, Schmaff, that's not cool. Listen, I'm doing you a favor. Wait, where are you in Canada? No, no, I'm going to Pinburg. I'll be there. I'm emceeing the finals. I'm on stage with the final eight people and stuff. Oh, thank goodness. Yeah, yeah. So the TTI, you know, I just, let's be honest, Mrs. Penn, I would win that falling out of bed. I'm just too damn good. You know what? Let the little people win something is what I think. I know. That's my subtle trash talking. That's what I told Brucie and Ron Ron from Slam Tilt. I was like, guys, you know what? I'm just going to see how you do. I mean, if egos are going to be bruised, I'll give you the win. You know, I'll give you the W. I think it would be great. I'd love to see that as a first matchup, you versus Slam Tilt. I'll be wearing Womp gear rooting for you if that's the case. That's incredible. For sure. That's incredible. Can't wait. It's going to be awesome. So on your TTI team would be Dr. Pin. Is he nearby? He sure is. He's right here. Let's say hi to Dr. Pin. Hello. Hey, Jeff. How are you? I'm pretty good. Who's more important in the household, you who are saving lives or your wife who is saving pinball fans from terrible podcasts by giving us one of the freshest ones of 2018? Well, there's no question that my wife is by far the most important of all family members. She holds the house together. She takes great care of our kids, keeps them alive, and she also has an amazing podcast, which is just icing on the cake. So I'm really happy that she's my wife. Aw, that's so sweet. I hope you treated her very well from Mother's Day. Absolutely. We've got big plans. Okay, good, good, good. I know that you're looking at a Houdini machine. Is that still in the works? That's still in the works, Jeff. There's a lot. After Pinfest, we've got a top five now, so it's not just Houdini anymore. There's about three or four other contenders. So over the next, I don't know, 10, 20 years, who knows how many machines I'll get, but the next machine is up in the air now. But Houdini was great. We loved it. We had a great time playing it. But we also like Meeble Madness and a few others. So I'm not sure what's going to be next in the basement. Well, you paced yourself out. I mean, those machines are quite expensive, and it's not always easy on a doctor's salary. So you just take it easy, okay? Right. Right. What you should have said is that it's not always easy on a mom-slash-pinball-podcaster's salary. That's what you should really, really have said. That's, you know, I make the big bucks. Exactly. Exactly. You can't put a price on the things that she does every day. There's, you know, if I was paying her, I would be broke. Totally true. So, Dr. Pinn, when Mrs. Pinn's recording, are you right there at the time? I can kind of sometimes hear a little snickering in the background. I assume that's you. Jeff, I'm there, but I'm usually in fits of laughter. So you probably can't hear much more other than, you know, gasping for breath on the edge of the bed. Sometimes I fall off the bed. She usually, you know, does it in one take. and I'm trying to be good, you know, so I'm not interrupting her podcast, but it's just she's really, really funny, as you know, and I like being there as a spectator, and I get a lot of entertainment value out of just listening to her podcast every day. Dr. Penn, is she listening right now? Is it just you and me? Just you and me? No, she's the one on speaker. Okay. I'm listening, Jeff. I'm listening. Mrs. Penn, I thought I heard one of the kids in the other room. Can you just go check on them for a second there? All right, hold on. Let me take her off speaker here. Yeah, yeah. All right, go ahead. Go ahead, Jeff. All right. I've heard her go off on tirades. I've heard that firecracker mouth go off. Are you okay, Dr. Penn? Is everything okay? Yeah, you don't have to call 911. Everything is good. She is a firecracker, but that's why I married her. I love it. Dr. Penn, are you afraid for your life? Just answer that right now. No, I'm good. I'm good all as well. Call off the SWAT, and we're fine, actually. We're really good. Do you have an emergency beeper that you wear around your neck No sir No all is well She feisty but that why people love her and it awesome Okay, bring her back in. Make her podcast great. Yeah, bring her back in the room. Yeah, Mrs. Penn's great. What a sweetheart. Yeah, what an angel. I mean, you're a lucky man. You're a lucky man, Dr. Penn. I can't say that enough. Thank you, Jeff. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Tired. Anyway, Mrs. Pinn, have you noticed a lot of fans of your show? And even, I mean, I get some nice emails from people, and it's always very flattering, especially people you've never, ever met. But do you get some nice fans and maybe even, you know, on the other side, maybe some critics too? Have you had that happen yet? No, not really. Honestly, everybody who has emailed has been awesome. I have loved every message that I've gotten. I've tried really hard to respond to everybody. Sometimes on pin side, I don't check that as much as I probably should. But, you know, it's been great. I think the few little, we don't have to call them criticisms. Like most people are just like, hey, would you ever think about doing this? Or would you ever think about doing this? Or I had a couple of people who strongly phrased that I not refer to anybody as dorks or nerds anymore. What? I've been calling them pinheads. I've been trying very hard not to offend, though I did say multiple times that in our house, being a dork and a nerd is awesome. It is. Nerds rule the world. It is totally true. You can call me a dork and a nerd all you want because that is a redeeming. Ditto. No, I'm sincere when I say that. My wife, Anne, loves nerds. And I think, what did Anthony Michael Hall say in 16 Candles? I'm kind of like the king of the dipshits. That's how I feel. Yes. Anyway. It's awesome. Well, you just had a birthday this week, and I wished you a happy birthday. And I noticed some of the other people wishing you happy birthdays. It looks like you've got a secret admirer in this Pinside Petey that we heard on Head to Head Pinball podcast. Oh, my gosh. What a sweetheart, honestly. You're like the only person he likes. He criticizes everyone, myself included. I mean, sometimes you just have to have a special way with special people. And I think I have it. Petey really appeals to the softer side of my heart. His email to you or his Facebook post that he posted for everyone to see said something like, Happy birthday, future wife. Suck it, Dr. Pin. Oh, that was a little bit rude, Petey. It was a little bit rude. But it's okay. It's okay. Those kinds of messages made me laugh on my birthday. So it was great. Well, you have a way with words and a way with your fans. We love Mrs. Pins Pinball Podcast. It is such a great treat. I look forward to it all the time. So thank you for doing it. Oh, well, thank you for doing it too. Podcasting, it's no small feat, let me tell you. When it's something you love, it's not really work though, is it? No, I have not once thought of this as work. I've thought of it as, man, I got to keep people entertained. I got to learn something. I have a little bit of self-pressure just to become better than I already am. But I think that that's kind of how I am in all things in life. So it's okay. It's good. I haven't put any pressure on how many times I'm going to put out a podcast or when they're going to come out. It's just when it happens, it happens. And hopefully everybody loves it and learns from it. That is the best recipe. It really is. Because, listen, life happens. You get busy. God bless my great friends, Bruce and Ron at Slam Tilt. They're religious. It comes out every single week. Same with the head-to-head guys. Martin and Ryan. It's got to be tough sometimes for those guys. I mean, Bruce is, you know, you hear him at the bar there working hard. Everyone's busy, right? So those guys I have a lot of admiration for, for what they do. I can't do it myself. And I even have a short podcast. You too. But you know what? You get it when you get it, and I'll give you a bunch at a time, and you're the same way. I love that about you. Yeah, you get what you get, and you don't get upset. That's what I tell my kids all the time. If you don't like it, you get your money back. Oh, wait a minute. It's free. Yeah, it is free. So just enjoy it. I think we just all need to relax. Relax, be nice. By the way, I do not want to forget this. This is how big Mrs. Pin's pinball podcast is. Jeff Parsons, a good friend of this program, he does the Pinball Players podcast this week, just put out his favorite five pinball podcasts. You've been around for, what, two months, and you're already number four. That's so cool. And, by the way, you and Dr. Pin are going to be on that later this month. It's true. It's true. We had a few technical difficulties with Jeff Parsons, but we're going to work it out. I have faith. Can you tell that we all love you because you've been on Slam Tilt? Ryan C. and Martin have talked about you. Stephanie Guide and Crystal Gemnick are talking about you, too. We all want people to know about Mrs. Pinn's Pinball Podcast. It's super special. It gives me the warm fuzzies. It does. It's awesome. I love it. Well, it's well-earned, well-deserved, and it's been great talking to you. Happy Mother's Day, Mrs. Pinn. Oh, thank you so much for having us on. Bye, Dr. Pinn. Thanks, Jeff. Thank you so much. You spoil that great woman. She deserves it. Oh, she absolutely does. Treat your wife right, Jeff. Don't mess around. It's Mother's Day. You got it. And I'll see you in Pittsburgh if not before then. That's good. We can't wait. I have a picture of me and you. I'm going to put that up on Facebook. You don't even know about it. Oh, wow. Really? You'll have to wait until this episode comes out, and you'll see the picture of me and Mrs. Penn. That's super exciting. Did you get one of those giant life-size cardboard cutouts of me? You'll have to wait and see. I've kind of always wanted to do that just to freak myself out. That would be actually pretty cool. You should get one done and bring it to TTI and have fans in the, go, go, Mrs. Penn, go, Mrs. Penn. I'd do it. If you get one, I'll wave it. Oh, really? Yep. Okay. I was thinking, I did see some that were, like, it was just like your shoulders and up on a stick. I was really thinking about doing it, but I didn't want to scare the children or anything, you know. I'm going to Kinko's. I'm getting one done. I think it's a great idea. Wow, Kinko's is still around? Holy cow. Oh, I don't know. Maybe I'll go to Kinko's. I'm going to find one. Mrs. Penn, Dr. Penn, thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you so much. This has been your Mother's Day edition of Pinball Profile. You can find our group on Facebook. We're also on Twitter at pinballprofile, email us pinballprofile at gmail.com, and please subscribe on either iTunes, Stitcher, or Google Play. Happy Mother's Day. I'm Jeff Teolas.
