## Analysis

Mal and Craft Brew Sally introduce "We Suck at Video Games," a new podcast focused on playing through their extensive video game collection, particularly Wii games. The hosts explain how they accumulated over 1,000 video games across multiple systems while rarely playing them, and describe their move to Greenville, Wisconsin where they consolidated their collection. The episode establishes the show's format: drawing game titles from a cup to randomly select which games to play and review, starting with Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny.

## Transcript

I don't know if that's the way we're going to start. Okay. Anyway, what is this all about? This gentle open wowsers? It must be a new podcast because the world needs more of those. Anyway, my name is Mal, with me as always, Craft Brew Sally, and this is a whole new endeavor. This show is going to be called We Suck at Video Games. That's right, WII, that's the nudge and joke. Also we, as in us. As in we, collectively. We're not good at video games, but we have many of them, thousands of them. How did this show come about? So for probably a hundred years you've been collecting video games. Rough math, but okay. We'll go with that. You know. Yeah. And uh... It's actually 93 years now. Oh, sorry. Excuse me. 93 years. Check out my wooden hoop and stick collection over there. That is the dawn of video games. My little stick. And then I went to the ball and cup thing. Oh yeah. Then video games. Yes. Okay. Enough nonsense. I kid. There's gonna be nonstop nonsense. There's always nonsense. Sorry, so for like a hundred years So we've been collecting video games for a long time and You know just keep buying them and buying them and buying them and not playing them Yeah that's the problem see and the history the we thing now I like like as craft brew Sally alluded to Franchi What is your favorite national anthem A eighty time radio show comma november six come tommorow Word Okay so On November 11 19 2006 I was sitting out front of a Target along with three or four other friends, and we all had our tickets and we were all going to get this new Nintendo system. Now, up to that point, Nintendo was awesome, then had a couple not so awesome systems, So I think the projection of the end of Nintendo was out there. People were starting to say that Nintendo was not going to be a thing anymore, like Sega, because Sega failed. I mean, they're still a software publisher, but no hardware in the game. Because they had the N64 and then they had the GameCube, both of which were... I liked the systems. Yes, I did too. But they didn't compete very well against Sony and then the Xbox came along. Flickingy romalog帳fo, prolhege reconnaissance intenchi, Insulfi, I'm sitting in a cubicle. I'm a cube monkey. So I was sitting there in a cubicle and I was like, you know what I should do? I should get the best games for the Wii. So I compiled lists and I compared them to other lists out there on the internet, you know, and I came up with this one list of top 50 Wii games. Well, then that flexed out to top 100 Wii games. And then as I was working off that list, you end up just buying all the Wii games because you walk up to a garage sale and it's like, well, they have this stack of games for three bucks each and you're like, well, how about Karli Mogenski Tnsen,R Din eli Boriski SviGecki Rimskyli,Sauvid Timok,Sharon Roseini Reshek,Nisan Pran,,E u Dyofra Dyipuborka de Kapam,Jara inclusively men pretendem answeren as ansi oma kgovierasppukawna su diferBS k doutesna,Svara And then after that in 2020 during the height of COVID and when you're not supposed to buy or sell a house, we did. And we relocated to a peaceful little place called Greenville, Wisconsin. It is a peaceful little place. Where the pastures are cow filled and green and the rain never falls. Wait, no, it rained last night. So it rains sometimes. But anyway, it snows. It snows every day, all day. But no rain in the summer. It never rains in the summer. Just everything dies and then it just starts snowing again. Anyway, we moved all of our crap. This is here. I'm getting to it everyone. It's like starting to reach for the cancel button. You're like don't go. It'll get better. So we moved here and I we brought all our crap with us and pinball machines and arcade machines and all the cane questions And albums Oh vinyl records We have a lot of vinyl records If you ever want to see a exercise in futility move 3000 records It terrible But anyway we got here and everything mostly made it So I threw all the video games up into this like retro game pit is what I call it. It's just a in the basement with the pinball machines and the barcade whatever and they were just on a shelf and at this time I'm still going now I'm at a new area and I'm going out and trying to find Wii games and Nintendo games and stuff that which don't bother Nintendo games are non-existent in yard sales anymore or thrift stores. They've just been absorbed. Pinball are made of gold and they're all gone. So Wii games are still there. So I'm buying Wii games but now I'm just kind of shoving them onto this shelf that's growing and growing and growing. And I get up over 300 games for a Wii and I'm like what the hell am I doing with these things? We're buying them and I'm processing them and I'm putting them in this shelf and we put them in alphabetical order because now we have online, what are those called, spreadsheets To keep track of the games we have so we don't buy double games and it's like a thousand it's over a thousand games we have not for the Wii for all all systems. Which doesn't really work sometimes. It's a janky system at best. Let's just say I'm not the best at using Google Sheets, but I'm trying I'm working on it. So we're sitting there and I'm like looking at this I'm like why most of these games I've never even played. I have a Wii U wasn't hooked up for a couple years. Now that's hooked up and I was like, I don't know. So then, epiphany hits. I do a lot of shows. I do two radio shows out of Radio St. Pete down in Florida that are like hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of shows. I did a B-movie review show called Slow Robotagogo. I did a long, long running podcast from like 2006 till whatever, I don't know, 2011 I think it went to. And now we also do a pinball podcast which is called The Pinball Junk Drawer. we Mike Nepe Då chaar? When it cloyed with a meatballs Duo marketers'iscoveration The following video is the full introduction of the video, the time period that the video came out, and the game's potential. For those of you who are familiar with the Atari, there were a lot of games that were not what you would consider classics. Let us shovelware as it were. And we are going to play those too. Whatever comes out of that little bunny cup over there is what we are doing. Are you ready? Oh we are doing this already? Do you have anything else before we draw? I don't think so. sketchitudes.com sonra.comregonобyevoice def rendof And as soon as those are going to go back in the cup, we'll re-pick. So, all right. Here we go. Oh, the suspense. Right? Rune Factory. Rune Factory. Tides of Destiny. Wowzers. So, tune in next week if you are interested in we Rune Factory. Tides of Destiny. That sounds important. I know. I hope so. Alright, that's gonna be it for our introduction show. We'll see you next week with our reflections on Rune Factory Tides of Destiny. Play along and we'll see if you feel the same. See you next week everyone. My name is Mal and with me as always is Craft Bruce Alley and we'll see you next week with more Wii shenanigans. Wii promise. Wii puns are gonna be a plentiful. Maybe Wii should stop now. We will not. That's it man. Game over man. Game over.
