## Transcript

welcome to episode three of the poor man's pinball podcast the only podcast that has a legit dynamic duo i am drew and with me always is ian hey guys oh man we have had a week what are you drinking today drew oh man you know same thing as last week i'm having a little kessler i'm having a little diet coke and a little twist of lime how about you i like that you drink the kessler's because it's cheaper for me i know we talked about that last week but i don't mind that so much spice is the variety of life right so i got a a spicy little drink here called a moscow mule because what the fuck i had some ginger beer that i needed to get rid of it's only two years expired he opened it up it didn't even pop didn't fizz no and i was like i'm going with it because Fuck it. I'm feeling strong today, guys. I'm feeling strong. So Ian's drinking ginger water. With a splash of vodka. Splash of vodka. Oh, man. So what did you get accomplished this week, Ian? Oh, man. I had all sorts of fun stuff going on this week. You want to hear it? I do. I always do. I learned something special about Facebook. Yeah? Do tell to our listening audience here. I learned that Facebook's full of shit, and they fucking rip you off no matter how bad you want your page to succeed. They will find your money. Oh, are you talking about those little pop-ups for $30 here and $32 there? So this is what I did. So I signed us up for Facebook. So if you like us on Facebook, it's Poor Man's Pinball Podcast. So definitely search us out and like us on that. I spent a lot of time, meaning I spent about 20 minutes on it, and it looks halfway decent. So like us on that. But what I ended up doing was when you create a page and link it to your account, there's a little button that says boost page. Boost page. I was like, well, what the fuck's this? I didn't see any credit card information where you put your stuff on there. And that's on almost every post now, right? Well, it is when we post shit. That's what I mean. We don't see it from the admin. So, yeah, I was like, fuck it, I'm going to boost it today. It's feeling good. I was like, I'm boosting this shit. So I hit the button to boost. again didn't ask for any kind of payment didn't even talk about payment options it just said your page has now been boosted i'm like fucking a nice you know so a day goes by and i keep seeing oh you've been you know we've contacted uh 5 000 people congratulations those numbers were a little inflated i think but i get we're fucking crazy so what ended up happening was i was like dude they gotta be billing me for this hold on so i'm clicking away clicking away and after one day they said there was like nine clicks on our page so they charged us a dollar and like three cents i was like all right this is fine i can i can i can afford a dollar sure 10 20 cents a click whatever it appears yeah that's day two goes by all right so now we got another 10 or 12 clicks The math is fuzzy at this point because it's only still like $1.75. Sure. So I'm like, okay, well, the first nine were $1. Now we've got another seven or eight. It's only like 75 cents. I'm like, all right, well, whatever. Did I forget to tell you I was clicking on our page a lot? I was too. I hope they don't charge me for that shit. It was probably on me. So anyway, long story short, day four comes around, and I'm looking at this. I'm like, all right, man, hold on. We're at $4. I got to see what's going on here. and there's a budget you set which i never set because i just hit boost they never gave me an option to set a budget you you can set the limit like so you can set the you can set the limit to you can set your limit to uh like it's it was set automatically two weeks and the budget was like 28 i don't like oh man i'm never gonna hit 28 that's the most that can charge you yeah we're at four bucks and we're already on day four so i'm like a dollar a day two weeks it's not gonna be 28 but i was still like fucking i want to get rid of this i don't want to pay anything else four dollars let's cap it off there right so what i end up doing is the poor man's pinball podcast by the way not rich guys i'm not rich i'm drinking some shitty old ginger beer okay with my moscow mule not rich i'm having hard times here but anyway so we go so anyway i go and i click on that fucking thing and i say i google how to get out of this boost thing and they're like okay you gotta go to preferences i go to preferences then you gotta click over to duration. Alright, click over to duration. And then you gotta click suspend boost. I'm like, okay. Get to that part. I'm like, there's no fucking suspend boost. All there's left is to shorten the duration. So I was like, okay. End this shit tomorrow. Alright? So we're at $4. That's it. We're ending it on day 5. I'm not giving you $2 for that, by the way. Ending it for... Yeah, no worries, man. Ending at day 5. Right? We're at $4. End it at day 5. Day 5 hits. They fucking inflated the numbers so badly. They said there was 100 likes and visits. And we reached over 10,000 people. Back up. They said there was 100 likes on there? Not likes, but clicks or whatever. Okay, all right, clicks. I got you. I was like, whoa, there's definitely not 100 likes on that. And guess how much it came out to be? Magically, we reached our budget at $28. We went from $4 to $28. Facebook goes okay we just we throw some pennies out there and say it costs a couple of pennies and then all of a sudden yep you're on budget you owe us $32 I thought it was fucking weird that they sent lube in the mail you know it was like Facebook addressed to me you know and I opened it up it was just a bunch of lube and I was like I know exactly what to do with this thank you Facebook so Facebook if you're out there listening and I know you are you know fuck you I can't stand you that sucks that's awful that's shitty that is that's shitty business practice so man so that was my facebook issue if you guys want to listen to pinball starting now hey guys welcome to poor man's pinball podcast episode three episode three drew we made it to episode three we did oh man it feels great you know i uh i didn't know what to expect when we started this thing we talked about it a lot yeah we kind of joked about it a lot our lifestyle we were fucking insane but you know what there's a million podcasts out there there are a million podcasts out there but you know what i don't care about any of that because i'm having so much fun just doing this what about you we record on mondays and i was just telling drew that monday turned into being my favorite oh man like it's great it's it's just awesome this is a great thing to do i have so much fun doing this even if we have the original 14 listening which we don't we bumped up our our standings here a little bit uh we are up to like the elite 74 i know that's not a thing but that's what we're gonna call them the elite 74 i thought we were in the 89 range i i haven't looked today so it's possible it's the monster 89 all right there you go monster 89 the monster bash 89 we had the 14 originals but now we're at 89 listeners and growing and all jokes aside i appreciate all you guys listening we're having a great time with this And without much further ado, we're finally going to get this thing rolling. Yeah, no hate mail either. Not yet. No, no. I don't think because anyone knows our email address. What is it again, Ian? It's poor man pinball. Poormanspinball at gmail.com. Yeah, there you go. So apparently he didn't know it. Okay. I have yet to email us. I'm sorry. Poormanspinball at gmail.com. There you go. Now you said it like a radio personality. So speaking of that, we're going to open up with our mail bag here. Mail bag. mailbag yeah we need a cool chime or music or something but right now we don't have it mailbag mailbag okay there we go mailbag wait no that's not the head mailbag mailbag mailbag we got some emails open that mailbag we really do man we got a couple legit and a couple not but we're gonna no they're all legit they're all legit we're gonna go through legit ones go ahead well first off we want to give a shout out to one of our uh heroes here Mr. Jeff Patterson He sent us an email Wishing us good luck And that he's listening So Jeff if you're hearing us Thank you very much for that Jeff we really do appreciate it That means a lot Just a little bit of encouragement you gave us And said that you were listening That is awesome Thank you we will keep doing it for you But he chimed in His dream thing from last week's discussion was Harry Potter We didn't really talk much about Harry Potter No we didn't because I never really watched a lot of the Harry Potter movies. I don't know about you. I watched them all on a weekend with my wife. By Sunday night, we were trying to cast spells at each other. How'd that go? We got naked. So it went well. Abracadabra. Patronus. That's all I remember. We got naked, buddy. So yeah, Jeff sent us that little note about his dream thing being Harry Potter, and that was the only one. I do agree it would be a good theme. I did forget one last week and I sent them back a little note. Futurama. I love that show. I know Ian's never really watched it but great show, great theme. I think it would make a fantastic pinball and you just have a bender. Bite my shiny middle ass multiball. And end game right there. Once again, thanks Jeff. I say for Harry Potter, let's go back to harry potter i think that because that world is so immersive i would the only way i would like i said the only way i'd like to see that is a series of pins because it's such i hate when they cram so much into a single pin sure pirates of the caribbean is a great example right do a series man what's wrong with that sure stern can do a series yeah those guys can do harry potter one harry potter two harry potter three whatever yeah just just combine them and I'd like to see three pinballs of Harry Potter. That way you know you did it right and you're probably going to make a ton of money. People who like those kind of collections are going to buy all three. If you have a great name. As always, are you listening? No, totally agree. All right, so that was Jeff. Thank you, Jeff. We got another email from Eric. My boy Eric, he wanted to chime in with some pin ideas. Drew, ready for this? I'm ready. What do we got? He said Mario from the Super Nintendo era. Okay. That would be a good one. He said Goonies. Mm-hmm. He said a sport theme, like Green Bay Packers or Lakers or something. And then like a movie company theme. So like Universal, Warner Brothers, Pixar. Oh, sure. Sure. General. You know, somebody mentioned the other day. That's exciting. Yeah. I kind of like that. One of the Pixar pin. Sure. Sure. Just some generic. But the Incredibles, you know, you have the little lamp. Yeah. And you've got to explore the Pixar universe, you know, WALL-E and Lightning McQueen and Cars. There you go. And then you've got the Incredibles in there. Sure, sure. WALL-E would be a good thing, too. I don't know what to think about it. WALL-E. WALL-E. I was going to say WALL-E World. I love WALL-E. That's one of my favorite Pixar movies. Not National Lampoon WALL-E World, but yes. I knew that one too. That one would be a good one, actually. But yeah, the universe of the movie WALL-E would be a great dystopian kind of theme. I like the idea of the movie company. The whole movie company. Sure, sure. You know, somebody, I forgot what podcast I was listening to, and somebody emailed in, whatever, and they mentioned Saturday Night Live. and at first at first i said oh man that's just stupid that's whatever but then i got to thinking about it and i said you know uh they did like sopranos and stuff which i know wasn't received very well and there have been some other tv pins and stuff but like there's a lot to pull from from setting out live and you know if you did it right that that would be pretty cool you know being a fan of saturday night live my whole life i think that would be awesome i would just i would like for the call-outs. Yes, that's what I'm saying. I'm going to be damn it. Yes. Have a little Mr. Bill character in there. Mr. Bill, Mr. Bill. If you're going to go that route, I'd rather see it in living color with Homie the Clown. Oh my god, yes. Yes. Some Jim Carrey call-outs. No one, no one listening to this wants any of those things. But it would be funny to see. Hey, but guess what? This is our podcast. I don't care what you think. Oh man. But thank you, Eric. Goonies, dude, Goonies would be amazing. The Mario thing, I think we talked about it. We did. You want 8-bit Mario? You know what? I do. You know what? Now, thinking about, rethinking about that 16-bit Super Mario World, that's a cool universe. Yeah. It just is. No, it's not. Yeah, I know. Fuck you. Sports teams. Sports teams. How do you feel about sports teams? I mean, that's hard to do a specific one. I was going to say, it's hard to do. I played the Monday Night Football pin it's cool, you get to kick field goals or you go out the middle with the ball I think it's actually pretty neat I guess if Stern or something wanted to make a little cheaper pin that maybe didn't have ramps and it had just the field and you could re-theme it with different teams so people could buy it for maybe $3,500 I think you'd sell a shit ton of them what do you think? Yeah, no, probably. Right. You make a real basic game. You'd have to do a basic game. Yeah, a football field. Because if you did like a Bears pin, like Chicago Bears. No, no, no, no, no. You do a basic. It would break about five minutes into the game. It's not working. And Jake Cutler would be in the middle with his leg broken. Yeah. I mean, I get it. Smoking Jay. Smoking Jay. Sorry, Chicago guys. We're Green Bay Packer fans. We can't help it. Yeah. All right, but thank you, Eric, for the email. Steve is emailing us and he thinks that a Sandlot head ball. I can see it. It's okay. Sandlot. I like the movie a lot. I mean, it'd be tough to do but if you could do it, it's cool. Would you rather have Sandlot or Major League? Oh, Major League. I think the soundtrack would be better for Major League. Oh, for sure. For sure. And just have Wild Thing. You'd have like a Wild Thing multiball. I mean, come on. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Think about it. And then, yeah, yeah, there's, yeah, Major League, hands down. All right, so we got another email. This is from Manscaped. Manscaped, he is, let me click on this. He's offering a special offer, free gift, free shipping, precise engineered tools for your family jewels. I don't think that's a legit email. All right, so let's see, what else we got? we got uh hello fresh 80 off uh everything you need for easy home cooked meals delivered right to your door did you ever do something like that one of those you know your your pre-made meals they they ship to you and you just like cook them no no we tried the blue apron once my wife and i not that we're bad cooks because we love to fucking cook but we just thought we put the hell it was like seven free days of food sure so seven days they've been canceled sure i'll tell what man waste lots of waste each like individual ingredient like if it's just a teaspoon of salt comes in like a plastic bag so you just throw away like yeah an epic amount of plastic huh and you're like i don't feel good about this at all and the food wasn't all that great sure that was mailbag drew that was mailbag thank you very much no really poor man's pinball at gmail.com eric jason jeff thank you so much all your email we really appreciate it guys all right so drew let's talk some uh let's talk pinball news okay sorry again ryan c ryan c you do do that the best yeah he does it's just awesome yeah um black knight sword of rage stern pinball has been announced rage revealed so i just have to say it rocked my fucking face off that game excited that oh i'm super excited that reveal that video the the seeing the knight in action is so cool i mean it excited me about stern i already like stern for the most part man that was just so cool i was uh i'm impressed that stern said you know fuck all with the conventions in general like they just don't use that to reveal games anymore if you think they're ever going to do that again they probably will match what they will do is control the narrative right sure sure because they could have just as easily brought that to tpf easily and they could have flipped it there and it could have been a thing yeah a thousand people there that are willing to buy and line up yeah but they choose they did it with beatles too right after uh whatever expo and i don't have the info on it but yeah hearing from other people it seems like they haven't revealed a game at a show in several years yeah right right so that's just no stern said no we're gonna we're gonna control the narrative and they they released the teaser video and then they released the video with the actual gameplay and then they uh i didn't even know stern had a deal with them uh ign but they had a huge article on ign and then what do you mean a deal i mean don't they just kind of well i think ign now is and stern are partners so they are ign.com will now I think moving forward exclusive exclusive scoops so maybe IGN even says hey man let us be the first to break everything do you think in today's internet world like that's that big of a deal or what I mean obviously if Stern's paying money for it or you know what I mean well if because if Stern's trying to reach a wider audience yeah sure no no IGN's big but there's there's a ton of big sites out there like that right I don't I don't you know what I mean I don't know that I don't know enough about because i don't go to a lot of those like um you know video game websites and stuff but and i know they're one of the bigger ones right but it just doesn't make sense if they were sinking money into that in my opinion but what do i know i don't know if they're sinking money into it but it might just be a mutual beneficial thing i don't know regardless let's go back to sword of rage you gotta say it like that uh my initial impression was that of excitement. I wanted to flip it right away. Oh man, who doesn't? I would say that as far as mechs go, the Knight... That was my beer, guys. That was loud. Sorry, we blew your car speaker. But no, the Knight mech, I would say is... I want to see it in real life, but it looks fucking cool. We got the feather off. On the face of it, and we haven't flipped it yet. we haven't seen in person would you call that a top 10 mech i know not yet okay not yet okay potential to be sure sure i think it really does have some potential there's some magic there man there's some magic because what i like about that mech is it's motorized number one number yes led yeah so it's got a lot of little details in there did you hear what c richie said about it what they were trying to do with it they were trying to make his head go up and down too yeah and then they they scrap one one too many yeah they're like moving parts in that bash toy too many moving parts in one bash toy can't do this but but yeah super cool for those of you who haven't seen that so you're maybe new to pinball or new and stumbled on across uh our podcast in the middle of this play field so the play field now we're looking at i'm going to describe the the limited edition playfield but the playfield is uh your standard body cabinet so your standard size pinball machine if you can picture that with a lot of like flames uh you got a lot of red a lot of black um and then in the middle of all this kind of uh mass uh pandemonium you have this cool knight with uh full-on black armor he's got the helmet he's got a big feather off his cap there he's the size of a soda can maybe i would say yeah exactly a 12-ounce soda can probably in his left arm so if you're staring at him it'll be towards the right he has a shield that's motorized as well so the ball can interact with the shield so you hit the shield the shield will move up and kind of knock that ball right back at you and there's a little locker scoop behind him and behind the shield there is a ball lock so you can actually get it behind that shield and lock the ball so very cool there and Then on his other arm, the opposite arm, so if you're staring at him to the left, he's got a flail. So it basically looks like two mini pinballs. That is the coolest part of that, yes. And what Steve was saying was the thing can spin towards the player. So knock that ball right at you while you're playing. And that looks like a straight down the middle every fucking time. Oh my god, yes it does. You can nudge the shit out of this thing, man. and then uh the other option i think it also will reverse and knock it back into like the play area well there's a ramp right behind it yeah something like that yeah there's a ramp or a yeah so there's that and then um this one like a lot of the so if you don't know there's three black knights there's uh the original black knight from 1981 i think 80 no 80 89 89 i believe that's black night 2000 oh 86 then we'll have to check our notes let's go to pin side yeah i think it's 86 all right so black night 2000 was released in 1989 but the original black night 1980 i was right so 1980 and then uh original black night was cool because it was one of those machines that actually had full digitized speeches the first one and it would taunt players so in the track mode right yes in the track mode so if you talk to an old school i mean old not old old school like you know not yeah i'm not mechanical but somebody probably in their 50s maybe that was the game that got on pinball yeah because you walk by a machine and it fucking says hey you yeah yeah you can't defeat me yes yes uh that that's probably one of those machines where it who is it wasn't that designer sorry wasn't there a designer recently that was talking about that that that got him into pinball i think it was um daniel kleiss okay from uh dead uh the guy who coded deadpool oh nice yes he don't quote me on this but yeah i believe he was talking on some podcasts about all that like you said that got him into pinball right right he was in the arcade he goes oh this is so fucking cool every once in a while like a pinball game comes around and it brings a whole new generation to pinball that was one of them i'd say terminator 2 would be another one and also a Steve Ritchie game. Yes and if you look at Black the original Black Knight yeah it doesn't look like anything from its era because it was the first one with an upper playfield It had a ramp Yeah a ramp to get up there It was crazy And people are just like what is this yeah and then black knight 2000 came by and they just kind of upped the game a little bit more with a rocking soundtrack dude and now we're back we're we're on number three black knight sword of rage so best bang for your buck i mean there's the pro edition that doesn't have the upper play field okay so that might mean faster balls they just said that game's gonna be fast it doesn't have all the um it sounds like it has the one ball lock with the shield but it doesn't have the obviously the upper playfield ball lock what's interesting about this upper playfield is that it's made of alexan which kind of excites me because it's clear plastic so you still have a fully functional lower playfield that you can still see yes no no you kind of lose half of the like why wasn't this done 10 years ago correct yeah What were we thinking? We've had Lexan for 100 years. Steve Ritchie went on record and says it takes like five screws to take it off. He did say it was very easy to swap out if you needed to. But on the top play field I think there's another flipper and then there's another mech up there and there's a three ball lock. It's a six ball multiball. So you can get it to a six ball multiball. But we have no idea how many balls are in the pro then. Is that just a four-ball game then? Is that different? Two balls. I don't fucking know. I don't know. So, yeah, but that's kind of what we're talking about here. So, anyways, yeah, initial impressions. It looks fantastic. It needs to be shot. We need to get our hands on it. We will. Yes. It'll be at the Midwest Gaming Classic. Oh, yes. Ian and I are going to the Midwest Gaming Classic. In our backyard. Of course we're going. Milwaukee. if you guys see us we will be there Friday night. Yes. Less than two weeks away. So another thing Steve Ritchie said. Now all this information I'm getting most of it is coming from Steve Ritchie himself. He called me up the other day told me about it. No I'm joking. He was on Coast to Coast Pinball or Coast to Coast Podcast. Coast to Coast Pinball Podcast. There you go. C to C PP this is why i have fun doing this with you man there's not enough alcohol as opposed to us we're the ppp yes not to be confused with p3 yeah all right let's move past it okay let's move past it but what was I saying about it? Oh, no. The one thing I was really excited about what Steve Ritchie was talking about was the light board. Did you read that? Yes. It has like 60 LEDs and it looks like flames, he said, in the back. So the back of the cabinet... They didn't show that on the video. No, but the back of the cabinet, there is a castle and the whole point of this game is to defeat the Black Knight and burn down his castle. Yes. That is fucking bad ass. It's supposed to look like fire. Yes. When I read 60 LEDs, I mean, you know, you just think about, we all know how bright most LEDs are. If you have 60 of them in a concentrated area like the back of a pinball machine, that's going to be pretty badass. Absolutely. You know who else was on Coast to Coast Pinball? Nate Shivers is fucking rocking it, by the way. Oh, man. He just shows up and he's like, I'm still the king. They called me. I told Ian this before we started this podcast. Nate Shivers is the reason that I'm here right now doing this podcast. just in general because it makes sense. Yes, thank you, Nate. Thanks, Nate. Because I started listening to him. I said, you know what? This is just one guy just talking about pinball. Just loving it. Yeah, loving it. And people love talking to him. And he just seems like a really nice guy. Great job, Nate. Thanks. Thanks, man. But the answer I was looking for was Tim Sexton. Tim Sexton. Tim Sexton. Tim was one of the coders on the Deadpool team. He was. He's 26 years old. I know this guy's a prodigy. He came from IBM and the dude's a goddamn stud. He's a competitive pinball player. He's ranked like 108. He's a really good pinball player. I've watched some streams just to learn how to play certain games because he does a lot of those streaming videos. Fucking stud. He's awesome. He's on that Coast to Coast podcast and the dude just lays it down like all the rule sets he's heavily influenced from like games from the 90s video games so there'll be mini bosses that you have to defeat to get to the main boss fucking great stuff man i'm loving it exactly he's the type of guy we need to get into pinball young blood man i'm telling you we need more young blood designers too man and we keep putting our applications at stern and they keep throwing them in a i can't even get Christopher Franchi to be my friend on Facebook. Why did we say that? Step one? Christopher Franchi, my name is Ian. I requested you to be my friend on Facebook. Let's see. It's the first today, so it's been about three weeks now. So we're on Christopher Franchi Watch. Christopher Franchi, be my friend on Facebook. And Mr. Christopher Franchi, because we're talking about this now on the podcast, I'm going to friend you tonight. And my name's Drew. So if you don't want to be friends with this whack job Ian Check me out I'm going to throw a challenge out there to Christopher Franchi Oh there you go I love this Here is my Christopher Franchi challenge Chris I will put a tattoo on my body Of your creature from the Black Lagoon Artwork If you friend me on Facebook By Friday We'll go by the next podcast And Chris you don't know Ian but yes he's a huge creature fan so he'll do it I will ink my body for you Chris Fanchi I will ink it for you so be my friend please Chris this is Facebook friend watch do do do do do do do do do do do do do do so where are we going you know what else Steve Ritchie talked about did you even listen to that podcast I listened to it as much as I could fair enough did you hear about the topic Oh, you don't like this. All right, so, ladies and gentlemen, Drew has not heard this, so this is going to be a natural reaction. So Steve Ritchie said this will be the best hopper he's ever seen ever in the history of pinball. It will be the head of the Knights. It will be a full animatronic head, you know, with the helmet and everything. It will move side to side, and when it laughs, it will go up and down like he's laughing. And it will be full LED and all that stuff. I'd like to get excited. And he looks at you. but it'll be released in 2025. The same year that R2-D2 is coming out for Star Wars. I'm going to bump. I mean, no, honestly, that sounds great. It sounds amazing. And, you know, I'm going to steal something from our boy Kaneda here. I'll do Chris. Yeah, Chris, you're awesome. Why can't they release toppers when the game comes out? Really? I mean, this isn't even a licensed theme. so there's no excuse. How do you know it's not going to come out soon? Because I know Stern and it'll be out next year. Alright, man. Because the game, they put all the R&D in it. Steve Ritchie is obviously talking about this topper which is fantastic. It sounds great. Bring it out. Just show us. Show the world. Stern, you could sell more toppers. Make more money. Done. Don't. Rant. Rant done. I forgot to add our mailbag that we had Ken Cromwell from, well, formerly from Special and Lit and now hosting TWIP. Yep. So he also wished us good luck and he was listening to us. Oh, I didn't even know that. He sent us an email? Yep, he did. Thank you, Ken. And also Mr. Chris, Kaneda himself, wished us good luck and he called us a bunch of clowns. He did. But we're fucking cool clowns. clowns and then he didn't respond back so i wanted to be that guy right we're cool right tell me we're cool anyway so i also wanted to give those guys a shout out for for actually listening thanks for supporting us it means a lot um okay let's let's move down our list with uh sort of rage here then we'll get to the to the next segment um so upper playfields we talked about a little bit lexan do you like upper lower playfields can't stand them you don't like them I don't like either one of them. Okay, fair enough. The only one I actually cared about that actually worked out pretty well was Pirates. JJP's Pirates. Yeah, yeah, I get it. I like that one. That actually added something to it. I don't know. It gave it a different dimension. I know that every upper play field should bring a dimension to it, but that was the one that, I don't know, it just feels like it fits very nicely. Yeah, no, it is integrated well, so to speak. another one would be Indiana Jones the left there that upper play field on the left yeah because it's kind of like you're in a camera and you're kind of the Williams one it's fucking hard though yeah it is what about like the Lord of the Rings one which is similar to that one yeah but Lord of the Rings one yeah it's so integrated I don't even remember that being like an upper play field yeah correct no no that one's good but like you know Game of Thrones premium I haven't played it I've played a lot of the pro. And everyone says the pro just shoots better. The premium just kind of, it looks like it's there. How do you feel about it? How do you feel about it? I can take them or leave them, quite honestly. How about lowers? Lower play skills? Same. I mean, you know, ACDC, not great. I played that one. Oh, with the lower play skills? Yeah. It just kind of blows. Kind of blows. Sorry. No. I love the game. that I love playing ACDC Pro all day long. That game shoots phenomenal. Oh, fucking great game. Yeah, it shoots great. Oh, the new Monsters. I haven't shot the new Premium yet, so the jury's still out on that. I did play Shrek with my wife a couple weeks ago, which is the reskinned Family Guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I played Family Guy as well. The Stewie Everplay field, to me, And I'm sorry to all the designers and people out there who worked really hard on it. It feels like one of those little toy pinball machines. Right. You know what I'm talking about? Right. I feel like that's what Munster should be like, too. Yeah, you buy those, you know, the Zizzle machine, whatever they're called, the company that makes those little shitty plastic pinball machines. That's what it feels like. And like I said, Shrek and Family Guy are obviously identical. They're just re-skinned. I need pinball. I'm playing pinball. So if you do it right, maybe Munsters will prove me wrong. I want to get my hands on a premium. I like shooting Munsters. So we'll see what happens. Yeah. I'm right there with you, man. I dislike them, though. I just think it always detracts from the actual game. It takes away from the flow. Upper playfields are definitely a lot safer, so people with a game that has an upper playfield, shoot for the upper playfield because you know what you know your ball times are going to be longer you're going to get points up there just and then when you get it onto the lower playfield all you want to do is get back up to the upper playfield so i can't i really hate everyone and full disclosure you know later i'm going to be talking about some jjp pins and like you know wizard of oz has the the castle you know i don't consider that really an upper playfield i mean you know it's kind of a mode in the game you know what i mean it's just it's a little different but um just just to stick on playfield up there for the sake of doing it. I don't know. For this game, Sword of Rage, I actually like that. No, no, no. This might be a little different for me. Yeah, I think this will be cool because you're still going to get the flow of the... Correct. ...down below. Correct. We'll see. We'll see. I can't wait to flip the pro because every broke-ass bar around here only gets the pros, so that's how I'll get it. Yeah, we're not going to see no other playfield. I don't even know why the fuck I even talked about it. I do want to make... Yeah, Toy... Sorry to cut you out. toys and gimmicks yeah totally toys and gimmicks Stern are you listening yes you are finally you know you put this knight in there you got some cool actual gimmicks toys it looks like a cool machine so thank you for that you think that this release is going to hurt Munster sales um no you know what I really don't You know, there's a lot of talk about, oh, and this game's released and it cannibalizes sales for this, that, and the other. But I really believe that this hobby's growing. I don't know at what rate. You know, I'm not an economist. But I just think that there's a lot of people that are only going to buy one pin or two pins. So if they find a pin they like, if they're into the Munsters, they're going to buy the Munsters. if they're not into the monsters and they see black knight they might buy a black knight does that make sense? no it makes perfect sense but I do also the other side of that coin is eventually I think there will be too many pins for normal income people to buy ok alright and I think we're getting to that point soon because we have seen more pins released in the last six months than we did in the last 12 months before that. Right? Maybe. And there's more on the way. That's the thing. They're going to keep coming now for the rest of this year. Yeah. Just because they released Black Knight so soon after Monster's, you know Stern's planning to... Yes. I know exactly where you're going with that. Lay an ass on them. what's going to happen is every other fucking machine every other company is getting one out maybe JJP will get one out maybe two like they said and yeah Jack said he's getting out two this year I don't see that happening I'm sorry Spooky's pushing that every other year thing now and Spooky we love you Charlie gotta promise that they're going to keep making their Alice Coopers they're going to fulfill their 500 orders. I'm going to play that game. Midwest Gaming Classic, Alice Cooper. We're going to that first, I think. I'm going to have your baby. I can't wait. We'll get a little more to these other companies here in a bit. We already talked about Tim Sexton. He's 26 years old. We're on the last point, buddy. Will this appeal to the masses, my friend? Will it appeal to Black Knight Sword of Rage? I think it's going to be a tough sell. it doesn't have a theme I don't think it needs a theme I agree but we're pinball people I think that if it's a badass enough machine we even talk about the music and that's being you know fucking ripped by Ian from Anthrax oh no there's enough on that machine that's going to turn heads if you're showing up there and you look at the line up of all or whatever distributorship you're going to. You look at all the games. That one might stand out next to all those other ones. I disagree. I'll tell you why. Start it up. All right. Why do you hate it? No, I love it. I fucking love it. All right. Because I'm a pinball person. Here's what's going to happen. You stick Black Knight Sword of Rage. Rage. Okay. Let's just play a for instance here, okay? Ooh, a for instance. For instance. Nice. So, ten people that you know that don't play pinball very often or at all, okay? You go to our round one, the entertainment center by us that just opened. They have 789sterns. They have Aerosmith. They have ACDC. They have Metallica. They have Guardians. Monsters. Deadpool. pool star wars so they have all these themes that everybody knows okay you stick a black knight in there you ask those 10 people to go you know here's a dollar go go play whatever game you want to play i can almost guarantee none of those 10 people are going to stick a dollar in that black knight machine based on theme alone okay fair enough fair enough i will um counter your point saying that everyone knows what a black knight is everyone knows that's an evil fucking knight like it's nothing new this is nothing new no it is the black knight is just it's in everything any any any any medieval movie any any uh even the comedy you know um uh monty python there's a black knight in there sure black knight supreme man everyone knows that here's your problem all those music pins man they may not like any of those bands so why not the black knight because there's monsters there's i know but i want to play this one there's guardians of the galaxy here's here's the problem everyone likes the movie does everyone like the pin let me your everyday person i want to be good no nobody says that once again i'm talking about non-pinball people i know me too i'm just saying yeah that movie doesn't rely pinball people are gonna gravitate towards this i get it so here's here's i know the theme's important it's important to me. Yeah, you're the most important theme person in the world. I love themes. Jesus Christ, I don't even care that much about themes. I just love good pinball. I'm telling you Black Knight's a good enough theme. It's universal enough. That's my whole point. Here's my point. Universal enough. Can't do that after everything. It just doesn't make sense anymore. I'm drinking and I can do whatever I want. But I'm pumped. I really think no I think Stern did something brilliant here though let me tell you why because I just shit on their game and said no one's going to buy it no that's not what I said you said no one's going to put a dollar in it correct you're an asshole that's why I love you I am the asshole of the show Stern did something brilliant here because you know they've been doing all these big things they spent a billion dollars for Star Wars they spent a billion dollars for Batman 66 and all this great stuff that they've been putting out, and they're doing really well in location. Well, now this pin might actually sell better to the collector than to the operator, which is fine. Now they got choices for the operator, and they got choices for the home use. So good on them. All right, let's move on. Let's move on. Move on, move on, move on. Move on. What else we got? We got rumored Stern titles. Let's just update those real quick, right? Real fast. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What do we got? So obviously they just revealed the Sword of Rage. So here's what's in the pipeline according to This Week in Pinball. We have Jurassic World. Thanks, Jeff Patterson. Which is a Brian Eddy machine. And Elvira 3. Wait, wait, wait. So Jurassic World is rumored, not confirmed. It's been confirmed. By who? By fucking everybody. Okay. Everybody knows. All right. Brian Eddy's doing that one. I just want to be a diligent reporter here. We're not reporters, man. We're fucking podcasters. Doot, doot, doot, doot, doot. Fuck that. This is our biggest hang-up is, Drew wants this show to be a serious fucking news report. I don't get it. Because we're drinking like fucking fish here. This isn't going to be serious, man. Let's just move on. All right. Jurassic World. Jurassic World. Done. Awesome. a three. Good. Awesome. I think some of these got shot down. Stranger Things, I don't know if they're going to be doing it. I think it would be cool, but it just probably won't happen. James Bond, I'm only interested if it's like a specific era. Yeah, there's too many movies, too many things that pull from it. You need an era. Yeah. Just like they did with the Beatles. They did the 60s era of Beatles. I would like to see a 60s era of James Bond. Same kind of deal. If they do James Bond and they have like Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore it's fucking weird yeah it's too much yeah it is dude do your 60s maybe a 70s would be kind of funky and then college if you had the cool like um shutter lens and stuff those would be kind of cool that was a gun barrel but yeah whatever gun barrel shutter lens move on shoot em superman 78 alright we got that'd be cool I think that'd be neat yeah that's fine that's fine beetle juice um that's that's cool beetle juice actually gets my boner juice movie yeah so michael michael keaton that'd just be cool yeah it depends if they get everything as far as yeah if they can't get michael keaton and uh what's her name the one from stranger things uh yeah winona rider cute one yeah uh godzilla yeah that's another one isn't that funny that winona rider's in two of these yeah dude i never thought of that guys just seriously ponder that for one second. Winona Ryder. Winona. Winona. Winona Ryder. Winuna. Ian always laughs when I say things like that. So stupid. Watch this, people. Ready? Ready? Ready? Don't do it. Hang on. We're going to edit this shit. Nope. Alright. Ready? Like that. Oh, that's a Drew joke. That is such a fucking Drew joke. You guys, I swear to God. I've known him for 15 fucking years. This guy's jokes are the worst jokes. When he was in his early 30s, late 20s, he was hitting on ladies at the bar going, Hi, my name's Drew, past tense of draw. That was his pickup line. Fucking ridiculous, right? Email us at poormanspinballpodcast at gmail.com. I think that's a good pickup line. That's a great pickup line. Please do it. All right. Let's keep going. Godzilla. Yeah, he just stole that from Charlie. We love you, Charlie. We love you, Charlie. Wi-Fi. That's going to be cool. There's been a lot of talk about it. George Gomez was talking a lot about it at DPM. He was. He was. What did he say about it? So his whole goal I think from what I remember reading is the fact that every machine will be connected to the Internet Wi And that just opens up Starting later this year. Yeah, that just opens up everything. Like, if Drew and I each get the same pen, now we can play against each other. Why would I get the same pen as you? Nah, we wouldn't do that. But you know what I'm saying? You know how, like, Golden Tee. Yeah, no. Golden Tee is the best example for what they can do with this. Yeah, like you got like tournaments and stuff. Yeah, you can play 100 people with your same game. It is cool. That's awesome. So good on you, 20 years overdue. Congratulations. Yeah. Way to go, Stern. You caught up to 1999. I'm just glad they're not shipping us with modems and shit that you plug into your phone line. I mean, come on. No. Gary, let's do this right. No, every company. Shame on you. shame on you every company because fuck my my toaster is wi-fi compatible oh no shit you know i mean like every every appliance you buy my car emails me yeah fuck yourself it's just yeah no i'm gonna change you when i'm ready so yeah dude yeah everything's wi-fi my fucking yeah my my dildo's wi-fi right now the the biggest thing that everyone's talking about which is the simplest thing is when you do an update, you still got to download to a floppy disk. Might as well be. You download to USB. You could fit it on a floppy, they'd still be using that shit. It's just stupid. Great. 20 years overdue. There's this thing called the World Wide Web. Maybe his pinball machines will ship with American online CDs. We get 20 hours for uh for free here so thank you stern for that i appreciate that all right so let's talk about jjp oh it's a big week for jjp what do we got going on willy wonka week everybody willy wonka week oh man this will be revealed this week what do you think uh all signs point to yes it is gonna be revealed and well you're laughing but we don't know that for sure it's willy wonka week guys get excited motherfucker when's it gonna be revealed fucking thursday thursday i don't know i'm just gonna shoot it out and say thursday i'm super pumped because i am looking forward to shooting this game i've been in the market for a jjp game for a while so this is the willy wonka from back in the day the gene wilder willy well that may or may not be true that's true Nobody wants the Johnny Depp one You know it's funny I think they confirmed that it was going to be the old school one Well who confirmed it Jersey Jack himself He fucking showed up At my house You know it's funny Before I came here tonight I was telling my wife about Willy Wonka And She said what version are they doing And before I said anything I said what version would you rather see you know what she said the johnny depp version that's because i don't like your wife there's a lot of reasons i i almost lost my shit no she's old school she likes a lot of the old stuff and i was just like are you serious i don't i don't think they would do back to their back she doesn't listen to us that's fine i know i asked so sorry small sidetrack i i asked her today i've been asking her every day i'm like have you listened to her first podcast and she goes yeah i'm gonna do it tomorrow and that's always her answer she does not listen to us yeah she uh she takes it from you oh man but anyways so all that to say though there are some people out there that you know but i don't think they're doing back-to-back that they just wouldn't that's just that'd be dumb maybe west gaming classic i think it's going to be there it's coming up yeah kingpin games did say that i can't tell you what's going to be there but you want to be there because you're going to have a game to flip, right? Because it's going to be something shiny and new from Jersey Jack. That's what he said. It's just going to be a new game from Jersey Jack. But yeah. Where's the edit button? So, whatever his name is from the owner of Kingpin Games, he's going to be at the Midwest. He's from Wisconsin, by the way. He's going to be at the Midwest Gaming Classic. Jersey Jack's from Wisconsin? The guy who owns Kingpin Games. Jesus Christ. You know his son? You know who his son is? No. His son is Eric Muneer. It's a true story, by the way. Muneer? the pirates designer this this podcast gets better this is a goddamn train wreck we take forever to say fucking nothing you know we're out of the hour mark we haven't gotten past third for fuck's sake yellow brick road is on the line it is on the line uh there's been pictures of it you know we We know they're making, what, was it $200, $250, whatever they're making. Right, right. So they're on the line. They're trying to sell them for $11,000. There was a rumor out there that they were selling these for this price so they could fund Willy Wonka. I don't want to say a rumor. There was a guy in Pinside that speculated this. Right, right. And it's interesting, to say the least, because everyone was kind of wondering why did they do this. and some people said, well, this guy keeps the line moving, and some people said, you know. It's price-type, right? Yeah, but it is interesting with the timing because now, okay, they collect. I can't do the math. You've got to help me with it. $200 times $11,000, I mean, that's a good chunk of cash. Yep. I can't tell you either, but yep. I calculated it, and I think it's a yes. Yeah, I don't know what I think about that But, you know what If they're doing it and it works Fine They say it's nicer in person The people that were at TPS You're okay with it I think it's ugly No, I'm not necessarily okay with it I'm just saying Wizard of Oz is a great game They took the monkey out Which kind of sucks It's beautiful green the original is still the best one in my opinion so the original? still the best one it looks so gorgeous everything goes together 75th was the ruby red and then they did a special Australian version no it was something else yeah I think so but you're right I think that was like overseas or something I don't know they've had 3 or 4 versions so next purchase pinball wise man it's looking willy wonka you're thinking what do you well how do you feel about willy wonka i feel great does it tickle your pickle see here's the thing willy wonka as it goes canada's pickle it oh man that guy's he's way into it he had a whole podcast about the movie willy wonka he had yeah he did about the movie yeah all the things that he thought would be a good thing in the pinball three other podcasts leading up to that just about wonka this and Wonka that. And then at the end he's like, well, what should I buy? You just spent 45 minutes talking about Willy Wonka, bro. When I first heard about Willy Wonka, I was like, as a theme, I'm like, eh, I'm sure it'll make a good pinball theme, which I'm excited about. Right. But my whole thing is now, I've been kind of searching for a second pin. My time, my time, my space, and my money are limited, so I don't have room for a ton of pins so I really need to make really solid choices when I get a pin. You got room for about 5 solid pins. Yeah, 4 to 5. Right now you have a Metallica Pro Premium. Yes. With other arcade games in there. So I'm selling some of the arcade games. Goodbye Sega Turbo. Yep, see you later. I love that game. So I'm selling some of the arcade games to make room so I can have Yeah, three to four pins. But anyways, I have limited space, limited funds. So... 4-Man Spinball Podcast at gmail.com. Yeah, we are. Most recently, I was looking at Star Wars Premium, which I'd be happy with. I like the game. I think it's cool. But the more and more I... You know, I flipped Wizard of Oz a couple of times. I flipped Hobbit a couple of times. I've flipped Dialed In quite a bit. And JJP a couple of times. JJP, Pirates of the Caribbean a couple of times I really think that they have so much in those pins and Ian and I were actually talking before we started this podcast tonight that if you're going to spend $7,500 on a Sten Premium you might as well just up it a little bit and buy a Jersey Jack what do you think? yeah that's why I'm such a fan of American Pinball I may not be the biggest supporter of Houdini and those tight-ass shots because again I'm not a very good pinball player but he is not thank you Drew um but man they put a shit ton of things in there for seven grand oh man they load it bang for your buck man that's what I'm all about like I just can't see how Stern can charge so much and get so little you know what's funny that's why Stern pins lately my opinion just one man's opinion they they lack soul and i think that jersey jack does a phenomenal job and you know what their prices although are getting higher sterns are actually creeping up on them so dollars make sense as my wife always says dollars make sense might as well i'd get an american pinball or a jersey jack over the latest stern yes me yeah i think you get more shit correct if you can swing it and and you can afford it it's in your budget um and yeah once again you know not not even big fun of the poor man's pinball podcast but yeah you know i i'm not gonna buy 10 pins we have a budget here we do have a budget i have a medieval madness no i don't i have a monster bad ass sc and my next pin will be whatever i can trade this thing for so um i don't know well email us and let us know what you think at poor man's uh pinball at gmail.com but uh yeah i'm really thinking jjp and i and i talked to the wife and you know what's funny was when i mentioned wizard of oz i mean she's not a pinball at all she's she's played a little bit with me on location she's she thinks it's weird playing at home which i was like why she's like well it's just weird we're not at the bar it's fine i'm like okay i like doing the at home too but whatever um yeah i mentioned wizard of oz and she was like oh that sounds kind of cool you know and i would get a wizard of oz today i uh the price was right it's it's it's on my short list i mean it's very cool i flipped it a few times but yeah i think that one would fly really well with my family sure sure sure sure no it's it's a it's a i think you're right it's good and people who come over i mean they're going to gravitate towards that For sure. Spooky pinball. Let's go on to them. What do you think, Drew? Alice Cooper is still shipping. Do you think you'd get one of those? I thought about it for a brief moment, and then once again I looked at, what did you say, dollars matter? How do you put that? Dollars make sense. Dollars make sense. You know, for the dollars, I mean, it is a certainly better price, you know, at $6,500, I think. Yep. for what you get, though. Yeah, it's solid. We love you, Charlie. We do love you, Charlie. I need to shoot it. Midwest Gaming Classic, baby. Yep, so we'll see what happens in a couple weeks because I'm at least a month out before the purchase, so we'll shoot at Midwest Gaming Classic and see what comes up. Nice. Cool game, though. Cool game. I'm excited about Midwest. I am. I do really want to see Scott Danesi's second game, right? Yeah, what kind of theme do you think they would do? you think he's just going to do it? Was it confirmed it's just another original thing? I don't know. I don't know if it's ever been confirmed if it's an original. No, I don't think it has. Because they kept saying his second game's coming out and that was it. It's just like, here's the second game. It's in production. He's gone in podcasts and said this is my, I'm working on a second game. He said, yeah, he just wants to get it perfect. He wants to get it right. God bless him. You know a young guy's doing it. fuck TNA if you never played pinball before and you picked up this game you'd be playing pinball I mean that's just the way it is yeah Drew's boner just touched my knee from across the table impressive Drew and it's only two and a half inches so figure that one out real close CGC Chicago Game and Company we haven't heard much from them they're still trying the struggle is real man they're really having a hard time getting these LEs out for Monster Bash. People are still not getting them. Some of these people have literally given all the money to distributors. That's fucking crazy. Like $9,000, $8,000, whatever it is. They haven't gotten anything and now they're saying May or June. I called my contact on a Friday and got my Monster Bash SE that Saturday. And June was with me. Yeah, I was. So to have the LEs still people waiting for these? Yeah. It's fucking Monster Bash, right? It is because I don't think this happened with Attack from Mars. No, that's kind of crazy. But the whole thing is, again, we talked about this last podcast, their business model. You know, I'm not a huge fan of moving forward with more remakes, unless Big Bang Bar, some other things that are a little bit more rare. But now we're going down the line. We're going down the top 100. I'm not a big fan. So, Drew, what do you think? Next game? You think Cactus Canyon? That's what all things are pointing to. I would like to see something a little more mainstream. Because Cactus Canyon, there's not a lot of them out there. Which is why they want to do it. Right. But I really think... It'll sell. It'll sell. I don't think it's as popular as the other ones. Correct. That's what I'm saying. If they come out with Theater of Magic tomorrow, well, shit, they're going to sell a thousand of them. Oh, yeah. Oh, man. You can like it. Again, we had an issue with this last podcast, man. If tomorrow they announce Theater of Magic or Tales of the Arabian Nights, they are sold out for the next year and a half. I can guarantee that. You know what I'd like? What would you like? I just thought of this. I'm just going to throw it out there. Ready? so don't laugh too loud but why don't they look at all the pinball machines that have been released right? Find a really fucking cool theme out of those. Get the rights remake it but do a full fucking remake. Update shit. Not just LEDs like the game itself. Take maybe this is a bad example but like just look into like any of the data use games right? Like Tales from the Crypt. how cool would that be if they updated the flippers, some of the mechs, changed things around a little bit, but still kept the tails from the crypt? Or even Fathom, something like that. Oh, I think I'm on board with that. Update some things, move some things around, get it to shoot a little bit better. It's not going to get a little bit of balls and not just clone everything. That's what they do. They clone everything. No, they do. You're right. They clone it, exactly. I think that would be even a little bit more impressive than cloning Cactus Cannon. I don't care about Cactus Canyon. I don't think cowboys deserve a pinball machine in general. And there's been several. Because it's fucking dumb. Because it's cowboy stuff. And you guys don't know this about me, but my first pin was Last Action Hero. It's a good game. It's an awesome game. It's an even better movie. Oh, man. I bought that movie and watched it again after I purchased the pin. And it is so bad, it's good. Oh, it's phenomenal. Sean Clive Van Damme's in that movie? It's just great. That's awesome. If you guys haven't seen it, watch Last Action Hero. Great movie. All right, we're moving past. Moving past. We're going... American Pinball. American Pinball. American Pinball. Ian's hard on. I know, because I just feel like they have all the tools to be fucking phenomenal. Fuck American Pinball. No, I'm just kidding. But they fuck it up, man. No, they... You're right. No, Houdini. the first time we put remember you and i when we saw houdini you look at it it's it's great it's beautiful you're just like oh my god this thing this thing is fantastic i mean there's nothing about it that isn't cool when you're just looking at it then you play it and then you want to fucking kick your dog right no no i i played it i remember the first couple times it's difficult it's not an easy game I think my initial reaction and I have to go back to what like a year ago now but I just thought after playing a bunch of other pinball machines because I've been in this hobby for two years or whatever but after playing a bunch of other machines yeah it's tough it's a little frustrating no it's not it's not that frustrating it's just a hard fucking game yeah it is you gotta be pinpoint accurate it's fucking crazy but there again some people like that level he's saying other games are better that reason why you are stepping away from the Houdini thing I'm not necessarily stepping away I like it I just think for once again those dollars dollars make sense for those dollars I'd be better served somewhere else That's all. So out of these new themes, we haven't even talked about it. I know other podcasts have talked about it at nauseam. They filed, what, four trademarks. Well, we haven't talked about this. So yeah, American Pinball filed four trademarks. So these are potential themes for their next pinball machine. Now, if you are just kind of joining us and don't know much about American Pinball, it's one of those things where they don't like actual themes. They don't like licensed themes. Correct. It's probably a monetary thing, quite honestly. They go with basically free IP stuff. But themes that people know. That's important to say. Yeah, yeah. They're free for them. Free IPs. Intellectual properties that are free for them. All they got to do is register a trademark and it's theirs. So Houdini and Oktoberfest, people know what they are, but they don't have to pay for the use of it. Exactly. which you know what it seems like that's their business model now right oh it has been yeah sure so they have four they have robin hood sherlock holmes velcaries and poker on robin hood what do you think oh you know what drew i don't know if you remember this but we sat down we had an arcade um no milwaukee it was uh uptown yep and you asked me what would be one of my dream themes and i said we need to have a norse mythology yeah the norse mythology pinball with fucking led zeppelin playing in the background some fucking kick-ass artwork and you have yourself a badass and this was last year sometime yeah before this was yeah so to my horror you know they they they actually announced you know robin hood Sherlock Holmes Valkyries and poker on and not one i don't understand it but not one podcast that i listened to understood what valkyries even are no it was it was amazing they're all like i don't know what's a valkyrie and then i think it's the thing from the greek mythological thing and no it's not the other end of the fucking world no it's not greece guys and me what i knew of it it was just women with wings Norse mythology. Valkyries, yeah, man. They're badass. But the problem with American Pinball is they shouldn't have fucking put Valkyries. They could have done anything Norse mythology. Yeah, true. They probably would have Thor or Odin or something like that. Something badass. You know how hard it would be to get a trademark for Thor nowadays? I don't even know. I don't think you could just say, I'm doing a Thor pinball machine. That probably wouldn't work out. Well, all right. So you go Odin. You know what I'm saying? You do something like that. Greek gods. Whatever. God damn it, he said Greek again. No, Norse. Greek gods. It's Norse. Norse mythology, man. Fucking mountains of Caucasus. I apologize to all the Norse people that are listening to us right now. I love them Greek gods. No, Norse, man. He's really, you know, he's like me on this now. He's like really animated about it. I'm a history guy. I love Norse mythology. I think it's badass. I think Vikings are badass. Email us at poormanspinball.com poormanspinball at gmail.com if you give a shit about Norse vs. Greek. Go. Fuck you. You're such a dick about this. So yeah, Valkyries are my decision buddy, okay? So you're saying Robin Hood? You'd like to see Robin Hood? That's great. Tell me about Robin Hood. Busty women with wings as Valkyries, right? Yes? They don't have to be busty women, but yeah. But they could be, right? Yes, go for it. Okay, then yes, I'm in. You had me at busty. Let's play a game. Oh, we got a good game for you today, folks. Alright, so today's game is called the Pinside Top 365. See, it sounds so silly Because everyone's like, oh, Pinside Top 100, top 10, top 15 What are your top 10 themes? We're scraping the bottom of the barrel As we roll here So Poor man, baby, poor man Bottom of the barrel Here's how this game works So, on the Pinside top 100 There's actually 365 games No one ever looks at page 4 Or page 3 that's 300 to 200 and 365 to 300 those are the deals those are the deals so what we're doing today and what we're going to do going forward as long as we get some positive feedback to this um so pin side top 365 we're going to start at the bottom uh so number 365 and we're going to the bottom 10 games So 365 to 356 Okay And what we going to do is we going to list each game and then Ian going to give his The rule is you only get three words to describe each game. And now, since these are the bottom... This is a Drew game, by the way. My games are way more abstract and stupid. He has rules and shit. I don't even know what I'm doing here. Ian's going to get three words. I'm learning it as you guys are. Three words. So, Ian's going to give his three words for that game i'm going to give three words chances are we didn't play most of these games because they're in the pin side bottom 365 number 365 is thunderbirds by home pin what three words you use to describe that pin three words that describe thunderbirds butt-fucked Australians. Because they took all these Australians' money and they ended up shipping games to Canada because that was new money. So it got confusing but he funded his company on Australian dollars and then when he got games produced, he shipped them to other countries first. And like I told Ian before, How do you make a brand new game in 2019 and you literally end up at the bottom of the list? I mean, that's bad. So what do you think, bud? Oh, my three words? That's easy. Ready? Yep. Why, Mike, why? He might have had a fan of Thunderbirds. He needs, you know, I applaud Mike for starting a pinball company and making games and actually producing them and shipping them. That's fine. But you need better things, man. Just do it. He might have been very excited about that thing. It could have been done well. That theme sucks. All right. I don't even know much about it. All right. What's next? Nobody does stuff for the Australians. What's next? Number 364 would be Hercules, the Atari pin from 1979. Hercules. The Hercules is that big pinball machine that has pool-sized balls. They're giant. Giant. What are your three words, Drew? Oh, that's easy. Really? big ball. What other three words can you use to describe the biggest pinball in pinball? I'm just going to go with very, very... Hold on, three words. Come on, man. Three words. Very slow beast. I will, because that play field's huge. It's a huge fucking play field. It's like half a pool table. How fast do you think that game even is? Did you ever watch a video on that thing? oh it's i should it's like the flintstone that's a youtube rabbit hole yeah it's awful all right what do we got next number 363 we got bugs bunny's birthday ball first of all say that three times fast bunny birthday ball no i can't bunny birthday ball all right what are your three words you want me to go first you go first all right uh it's a dream pedophile design. Design by Trudeau. See, I didn't even know that. You know what? How are you going to have a child molester fucking make Bugs Bunny pinball? He's just convicted this year. Or her sentence or something. Did I just bum you out? Yeah. I don't even know if I can say my three words now. What are your three words? What's up? That's weird That's so weird Oh god damn it That worked out way better than you thought Oh man Alright What's up What's up Trudeau Alright Trudeau Alright go for it 363 is the Jetsons by Spooky Pinball, which was a contract game, by the way. Yeah, what's his face at it over at the pinball company? Yeah, he's the one that contracted it. He made like $100 or $200. Yeah, the pinball company is that annoying company that puts all their ads on Facebook. They hit that boost button and they don't care what their budget is. That just goes on our Facebook. I'm sure our wives don't see that shit. Every other thing, it's like, hey, you got a new Indiana Jones here. $20,000. It's $18 million. yeah it's in great shape yeah thank you nick all right anyway we cleaned it with a rag the jetsons yeah awesome family game actually i think it's it's a simple very simple game and i totally agree beautifully and my three words for that were love the cartoon yeah same thing i mean it's the cool theme you know what it probably doesn't deserve to be in the bottom you know what you want it's a contract game yeah do that it's way better there's there's probably there's probably a lot of families that they play it every day and they just love it. So good on them. That's great for the kiddos. So let them play. Why does it have to be rated so low? Come on now. I know. Pinside, you're fucking brutal, man. Grow a heart. Grow a goddamn heart. So 362 is kind of just a funny one for me, for sure. Which one is it? Hyperball. So we got Hyperball. For you guys listening who don't know, Hyperball has the two triggers it's kind of like holding two guns yeah it's like demolition man and there's like 50 or 60 little they're not full-size pinballs right and you shoot them at lanes they're basically a bunch of lighted lanes yeah essentially i mean think of like the board game from the 90s crossfire yeah yeah you have a gun and you gotta shoot the little ball bearings yeah little targets yep there's probably like 10 lanes and they're all lit up and you shoot for the lit lane and then this lit lane changes and there's whatever and it's it's fast and frenzied it's fucking loud we both oh man it it sounds like a tank is rolling through your house it's in our local arcade the arcade go check it out um but drew and how many follows wisconsin yeah drew was like he loved it he wanted to get one i i love niche stuff like that i just i see stuff like that and i'm like it's just it's just a cool novelty i'm so annoying i'm like you're poor but anyways so what are your three words your three words oh ready ian hates it my three words is i fucking do move on let's move on next all right uh what are we at three six uh 361 Nope, that was 361 360, hard body It's from 1987, a ballet game Nah, that's 361, hard body 361 That's like a workout one It's got the woman with like the Bandana Headband Early 80s workout gear With like the spandex and shit Yep My three words would be why, why, why Why do they have that as a theme that doesn't make the lick of sense and my tongue in cheek is best theme ever who is who's that talking about hard body was that uh greg bone i don't know yeah i think no idea i think greg bone had a hard body for a moment and he was playing it or something oh yeah you're talking about it straight down the middle we'll have to double check that hard body It's just Photoshop crap on there. I love it in my collection. Sure. That's hilarious. If you had, exactly, if you had like 10 or 12 pens, it would just be hilarious to have it. It would be my number two pen, but yeah, it's pretty fucking cool for number two. Whatever. But why did they even decide to make that? That's such a funny thing. That's great. There it is. Where are we at? 360 now? 360. All right. Playboy, 35th anniversary. This is the date at East from 1989. not to be confused with the stern from okay i like the stern one the stern one's okay yeah it was that early 2000s i think yeah yeah so this is uh the day to east one 35th anniversary uh what do you got i said where to play where the fuck do you play these yeah i have no idea where you would even find oh fuck where you know how did i ever see that one how did i ever see that finding a day to east on location is hard enough they break down so quick yeah Finding something like this, yeah, not going to happen. So me, real easy, love them boobies. Yes. How can you not? And now 359, Raven. Oh, that's a good one, guys. I like this one. Gottlieb from 1986. I never actually played this. Have you ever played this one? I hope there's a Raven at Midwest Gaming Classic. Oh, I'd love to see some of these. Oh, man, I would play it. That would be like, I'd line up for that one. Did you even look this one up? Because I didn't look this one up. I know Raven very well. Oh, really? Yeah, because I don't know why. Oh, you know why? Because straight down the middle had a whole thing, Worst Translates or whatever. They talked about Raven. Really? And then I saw Todd Tuckett's TNT video on Raven. And bare bones, it was just a ripoff of Rambo. But it was a woman they put on the Translite. Sure, sure. She's all, like, Rambo'd up, and she's beautiful, but she's got a machine gun. I don't even think it has anything to do with the actual game. but yeah Raven man I was one of my games on my short list no I don't everyone that has it hates it but I think it'd be one of those conversation studies sure sure no it'd probably be cool so my three words on that is best fucking translate easily as the best translate cause it's so it's like just they took a picture of it and then pasted it on a translate sure and much like me in high school I didn't do my homework so no fucking clue oh you don't know raven all right well you need to study up on raven because raven's a i do that's a classic everyone laughs at that yeah so now we uh move up to the year 2000 with stern striker extreme is what 358 yeah 358 358 so what do you think about striker extreme oh he has a good one i was shocked man one it's a shitty review of a shitty game so every time what is this game about soccer okay Yeah, it's like a shitty poor man's World Cup soccer. It's like the worst. It's like our style soccer, man. Shit, shit. Poor man's pinball soccer made a game. It would be striker extreme. But the shocking thing is Balser and Borg. That is shocking. Both designed this turn. And if you don't know, Balser is the guy at American Pinball now that's making Oktoberfest, made Houdini. He's got a lot of great layouts out there. and then Borg is known Borg? Are you kidding me? Metallica, Aerosmith, Guardian You know, yeah, Borg has a list a mile long So Balser and Borg combined to get Strike Extreme, so yeah, I gotta go Balser, Borg Buttsex That's it, Buttsex We need another B in there, so there it is It's alliteration, bitches Oh man, and me, since I didn't do my homework again Same as Raven I like how he didn't do his homework, this is his fucking game well most of the games i actually knew and i played yeah right right no no balser borg butt sex that's what i'm calling it because that's no excuse balser no no you're right if that's the case i can phone that one yeah damn all right okay 357 where we got the the top of our bottom list that's getting exciting yeah folks so 357 is black belt valley 1986 i didn't i didn't know about this one i actually had to look this one up because when you sent me the list you know i did do i cheated i did do a little looking up and one look at that play field and it reminded me of karate champ from uh the arcade oh nice that yeah that's cool just so fucking cool i could just picture out the cost going ah you know like yeah the cheap the cheap generic uh martial arts sounds oh dude this one all right three words easily i want one i didn't know this thing existed yes and i feel like i need to i need to be inside this machine so ian introduced me to a arcade game called what was that kicker kicker dude that's a great fucking name man there's this It's a little like, it's this Japanese game, this little ninja guy just kicks. You kick the shit out of everybody. You go up these different levels, kind of like a Popeye or a Donkey Kong. It was made by, like, Konami. Yeah. Konami, Konami. But you just kind of go up the level like Donkey Kong or Popeye. You just kick these guys. Don't punch them. Yeah, you don't punch them. Can't punch them. No, just kick them. Don't fucking even touch them. No, you kick them. It's called Kicker. Kicker, you kick them. If you guys have Mane set up and you don't have Kicker, please. It is a fun game. He turned me on to this, and I was like, yes, it's pretty cool. It controls. It controls like a Nintendo game. It's neat. The controls are so tight on that game. Yes. And that's a hard thing. He's right. He was back in the day. The main guy is just, yeah, check out Kicker. Kicker's fucking phenomenal. One of my favorite arcade games. Midwest Gaming Classic two years ago. Somebody had the PC. Yes, we played the actual game. It was cool. He had a Kicker arcade machine, man. I hope he brings that fucker this year. Oh, my God. I'm into it. So you have three words. Generic 80s theme. Because that's what they were doing in the 80s. They just brought, oh, well, the Karate Kid's famous, so we'll just do Black Belt. We'll do this. What was that one? I sent Ian a link today about a machine for sale on Pinside. It's called Special Force. Cool pinball machine. We watched a review from Todd Tuckey. Yes. On TNT Amusements. and just this cool game. It's got like this forest background. You're in the jungle, I think. And yeah, you're a special force agent. And yeah, just a cool game. But yeah, that's what they were pumping out in the 80s. Blackout. Yeah, special force is cool because that is a cool game. They got a good light show on there. Like, you know, they have the tri-level plastics for the trees. So the tree line actually looks like an actual forest. Nordman. It's a Nordman design. That is Nordman. Oh, that's right. I think we knew that. Yeah, yeah. Dennis Nordman. And he went on. That was his first one. But he ended up doing Climus. Sure. Sure. He did the Paps. The Wole Nelly. And then he did Scared Stiff. Dr. Dude. So Kaneda talked a lot about those of you just joining us. We're going to talk about Kaneda. I'm drunk, dude. And we both are. So Kaneda talked a lot this week about Willy Wonka. A lot. Willy Wonka's being revealed when? On Thursday? Per Ian? Fucking year to year. today, folks. We have the special report. Special report. Ian made up some shit and Willy Wonka is going to be revealed this Thursday. So spread the news. Willy Wonka is supposedly being revealed this week or maybe next. Do-do-do-do-do-do-do. That was the first one. It was. But Mr. Kaneda talked about he had an idea for five golden ticket Willy Wonka LEs. I think it's cool. I love it. Obviously, I can't afford it. None of us can. You did a follow-up to that. Did you do a follow-up? No, I'm not quite sure I did. Jersey Jack actually reached out to Kaneda. Because the whole thing with the five golden tickets was this. Jersey Jack wanted Jersey Jack to make five special machines and charge $25,000. Yep, sure. Why not? and Jersey Jack called up or emailed Kaneda and said are you nuts? I would never be able to get away with that and I thought to myself just as Kaneda was reading that I was like but the Beatles just got away with it and he could honestly he could put a $50,000 price tag on it and probably get it I'd be honest with 5? absolutely with 5 yeah that's a little high ok 30 whatever still 25 is perfect Jersey Jack you should do it Yeah, get a quick $100. That really is a really, really, really, really good idea. No, it's cool. From a marketing standpoint, I thought it was just neat. Make five just a little bit decorated. A little leaf or something.
