One of the great things about Spider-Man is that so often and with a lot of the sterns is you want to stack multiballs into each other and play them both at the same time. With this one, a lot of times you want to do one multiball to get the other one ready. That's so true. Um, that is a really good player strategy for friends listening out there. Like if you can uh qualify another multiball while you have uh a current multiball because you have ball save, that is a very good strategy. Hit your shots to get your other multiball qualified while your ball save is on. And and then not to start it, just get it ready to start. Yeah. And then as soon as you're out of your multi, you got your other one ready. Yep. And then fire that up and then get the cuz you can alternate back between do and black suit. Can I can I coin the term backup multiball? That is your backup multiball. I don't think uh anyone's called dibs on this yet. Dibs. [laughter] I'm calling dibs. Dibs. Dory dibs. All right. I had to play this for women's state at district 82 and it was very close. It was uh I kind of surprised my player as player two. She she was like 50 mil ahead of me and I went up there and I kind of slammed it. Yeah. I surprised the heck out of her. She's like, "Oh my god, I didn't think you were going to catch up." But I'm like, well, I tried my best and I guess I did. Okay. Well, that's all you can do. You're there to play the game. Play the game. That's a lot of side to side. Oh, yeah. Good recovery. Oh, half ramp. And you know, that's that's a fairly nice half ramp. It's not shooting it right down the middle. Well, and if you saw him, he had a nice side tap on there to kind of get a left to right rattle. Okay. So, it didn't come dead center off that ramp because otherwise it will. Nice. Tournament's been going pretty well so far. Yeah, this has been the biggest event that we've had from uh Friday. So, I started running tournaments every Friday at 7:00. Um, usually a variety of strikes and some other format, some other fun formats. Last week was my biggest tournament at 20 people. We did a fun two versus two cooperative tournament. That was a lot of fun. So, seeing 47 people come out tonight for a three strike is absolutely insane. I'm totally fine. Oh no. Well, you got uh pinball and party Cardi. That's right. Oh, he passed. Keith passed or Keith passed Tom. So, Keith is definitely walking away without a strike this round. Wow. the I've noticed these games, you know, this is uh from an objective standpoint, they're a little difficult. Yep. I I think that's by design. Uh Jim, the propri one of the proprietors here at Kickback, I think his philosophy is more lean stuff on the the tougher side of fair. So, yeah, there's they still have ball saves, but there's some um post rubbers that are off, some things that maybe set a little bit differently with the pitch. Um, but I think ultimately it makes us all better players here and it's really nice. Hit the mystery. Jesse, get it. Get the elbow. Oh, it's wrong one. Wrong hole. Crazy. So, Jesse did get his multiball, but he wasn't able to do much. I'm sure Tom was back there kind of. Yeah, don't hit anything. He's got his mode ready to go. He's got limelight. For those that don't know, you hit the green arrows to try to stay in the limelight. If you don't hit them within 15 seconds, you have to hit the time machine in order to get back in the limelight and relight those arrows. That's my understanding of the game. I'm not very good at this. Yeah. I I would like to have a rush for a month and like topless sling to the out lane. So Tom is safe and Keith will be safe. Terra's getting her first strike and Jesse's getting a second. It's the way the the knockout works. Yeah. Can be rough at times. It looks like we got now one group that's still playing on Tron. That's a f I've learned to I kind of got myself. But I don't know. I don't learn lessons. I used to not like that game, but the more I've played it, the more I've started to understand it and and enjoy playing it. It's a fun one. Yeah, that draft target's just the worst. It was a lot worse before. Uh it used to be that it was extra. It was a thin target, so you would hit it and it would airball over all the plastic on the left side drain. So it what? So it's a thicker target that I think's tapered down. So it keeps the ball in play a lot better. So it's a lot better than it was. Okay. I was convinced like Eric at District 82 put a big fat one in his so cuz that one like it sucked to go down and and he's like that's how it is in every Sopranos. Oh, and I'm like and now I see. Yeah, it used to be Oh, I could apologize to Eric if I wanted [laughter] to. It used to is it used to be airball city here when you if you hit that drop target just square on it would just go jumping everywhere. So, we're waiting on two more games. John Wick and Theta of Magic Vita. That's what Tom's on. He was hoping for a double walk-off. Ah, all right. Yeah, we had 14 people knocked out so far out of a record 47 that we've had here at the kickback since they've opened. So, uh, not going so bad so far. We're checking the district 82 tournament. Peter Goldman tap qualifier. Here we go. Didn't matter till the finals. So yeah, that's the thing with their Friday night tournaments. Like it does not matter how you qualify because it's a knockout in the finals. Is it? So there's no seating, you know what I mean? Like it's just a three strike knockout. Got Okay. Gotcha. Yeah. So here, you know, we started a Fridays as three strikes and then we just kind of decided that, you know, Madison has had a lot of kind of the same type of tournaments and we don't do fair strike or progressive strikes. So I decided we're going to do some of those. So new first Fridays we're doing a three strike knockout every month. Second Friday will be six fair strikes. Might adjust that depending on people. Uh third Friday will always be a progressive knockout and usually nine strike. And then Fourth Fridays will be usually something different. So this month I'm doing a pace match play. It's actually one of my favorite formats to play. Um because it's got a kind of a good combo of match play and uh and kind of a strikes eliminator style. Uh and then any fifth Friday of a month, I'm doing a fun do a fun non-sanctioned tournament just to shake it up a bit. So that's awesome. Glad you're doing all this. Thanks for the hard work. Appreciate it. It's It's been a We've got a really really good community here in Madison. Now, I've been in various games for my entire life and I I can clearly say that Matt the Madison pinball community is the best gaming community I've ever been a part of my entire life. I sure am. I think it's going to I think that if it is done well with not only how it feels, right, but how it feels and the layouts and the different toys and the biggest thing is going to be how it how Insider Connected works with it. Yeah. If they if they do it right and I'm going to go ahead and put this out there. I think it has a chance to outsell Godzilla. Well, that's big bold statement. I poke there's Pokemon is the biggest works out for him. It's the biggest franchise in the world and the only I think second is Star Wars and they're not even close. So I and with how Pokemon crazes, I think it's going to be really good. Is the Zen diagram big enough where it meets between Pokemon fans? And now there's the rumor that the Costco ordered 3,000 home editions of Pokemon already. That wouldn't surprise me that they're they would do a home edition um as a cheaper way to get uh Pokemon Pinball into uh into famil family's homes, especially with kids, cuz we're celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pokémon's release. If you're paying five grand for a home edition, just [] get the Pro. I Yes. I I for those that know. Yes. But if you just have a random family that's going into Costco, they might not know where they could. They may not know about another about operated. It is a good introductory, you know, and I I I talked to one of my buddies uh D82 last Friday and he's like like he was selling something. He's like why? He's like my daughter's making me get a Pokemon. [laughter] Well, my my wife and I are looking at getting a game at some point down the road and we were kind of set on Dungeon and Dragons. Um, but I think all of the like the settings in the games are pretty stock to to my knowledge. I got a strike on Ghostbusters. Unfortunately, I end up getting last in that. It's just unusual with the sheer volume of players compared to a normal Friday. So, just so you know, IFPA doesn't like tapping out players. So, XNA on the on the tapping out or at least talking about except for agree except for egregious situations. Yeah, I don't think they care about the local bar tournaments as much. This is No, that's a bigger one. I I don't really want to. It was more of a more just curious going on over there. So, no, I really don't want to. And I think with the game setups here, likely we'll never need that here. Very rarely or like if it happens once once every rare time. Do you think this is a viable location for state? Yes. Yeah. Absolutely. It's awesome. I have similar parameters to what I had 3 years ago when we had it at uh Nerd Haven at its previous location. Yep. I wanted public venue, running tournaments, y having public access. Yep. Having a variety of Arrow machines. Yep. And having, you know, now a fifth parameter, having it stream friendly. Yep. I came to the States in 97. So as a you know, my generation, I'm 35, is you know, effectively grew up on it. And they used to have a couple of Pokemon pinball games for the Game Boy. So now that there there's an actual an actual physical pinball game coming out for Pokemon is kind of a dream come true for a lot of us my age and especially those that you know were kind of you know good 10 15 years into our careers might have some extra spending money. And now since we're down to three groups of three, only last place in each of these groups will get one strike. Tom with the sneak in skill shot opting to take that. Let's see what he goes for now. But I just know I usually try to go for the grid when it's there to get the light portal lock there. Um if it if it's even there. Otherwise, I think I would do what you were doing cuz either going for portal lock, but it looks like you were going for Thor as well. Get that. Uh yeah, I I was honestly the Thor hit was a little on accident. That's a happy accident. I was Yeah, I was I was trying to hit the uh the Black Panther shot, but Gotcha. kind of want to if I could get a portal lock going and then start Thor, good things can happen. Is there a good Is there a mode that you typically like to go for when you have You mean the gem gem quest? Yeah. Yeah, either reality or power I like to go for. Okay. They seem to generate more points than than the other ones, but got depends on how you play it, too. I mean, it's this is one of I need to one game I want to sit down and really like do a big deep dive in. I would love to own it. Um, it's one of my f honestly a great game. It's one of my favorites from Keith, to be honest. Yep. He's one shot away from Thor. Yep. There it is. What was that noise? Uh, it's the shaker motor. Ah, shaker motor. Mhm. What are those? It's the I think the overall art package and presentation of the game and all the different toys in the premium alleys make it a very very fun game. And so I think that you know my favorite of is Iron Maiden. I would put this as a pretty close second. I really enjoy playing this. I love the layout of it. I like the shots. Very deep rule set. a lot that you can do with it. Tom's going with almost thought about reality going with time gem. Super combos. Super combos going. Let's see. Did he have portal lock or no? Or uh [music] no. So, let's see if he's going to bring try to bring Thor into this or he's just going to combo out. Oh, notice the swing of the outline. Yeah, that Iron Man shot is I always have a hard time hitting that one. That's a tight shot. It is. I think so. He's spinning the disc, but he actually has to collect the gem first. So, it's 2x playfield if you can get up to two for 3x playfield. Good. And you don't get any extra extra Playfield X just if you stack a multiball. It's only for your portal locks. That's correct. Gotcha. So, always be uh going for those portal locks. So, if it was if it was on comp settings, usually the uh you can go for the drop targets. If you hit the middle one while it's on the uh the straight line, you know, horizontal line across, it'll uh it'll give you the the portal lock. That's where I know it. I was wondering where that where that was. So, that was the first thing I checked when I went up to the game. [laughter] I'm like, where's the portal lock at? And then I'm like, uh, I'm not going for it on the grid. Okay. So, that's where Yeah, I know that I don't really think he has a lot of competition settings here since this is mostly open to the public arc. So, now if if this was uh if this was set for no extra balls, that would have been 25 million right there. I'll get the the plunge off, but he's still in multiball. He's in victory laps. He's looking pretty good. Well, he's getting a lot closer to my score, which scares me. He's got a ball lit. And the mystery is usually an add a ball. Nope. 5x bonus. Not I don't think it'll ever be up to what you know we see in the Fox Valley area. But you know I think as long as we're just kind of doing what we are what we need to do out here and make sure that we have fun tournaments and that's what matters. You know what 6 years ago 8 years ago it was vice versa though. That's that's what I was telling telling Aaron it was we me and Strangeway always had to travel here to to Madison area. Yep. That was the only way to qualify for state. You'd have 16 players for state of which you'd have 12 for medicine. There were there was a few big events. There was Midwest Gaming Classic. Yep. There was like Mad Rolland. Then you'd have Wanopin. Wanapin. Missed Wannin. Oh then some some King of the Fox and uh [laughter] some guy running a tournament out of his basement. Mhm. When's that coming back? You never know. I'd make the I'd make the trip up for that. It was always fun. It was a lot of work, but it was fun. Can your carpet handle it again? That's the question. I mean, with what you were doing, even with the Friday night tournaments here, I'm having I'm having a lot of fun doing them. I I'll say that I really am. It's I mean, I' I've volunteered for a lot of stuff throughout my life. Like I mean, you know, we're we're both we're both in Boy Scouts. We're both Eagle Scouts, you know. It's you know, I I really I really love giving back. So, um, so this has been one of the best thing. Getting into pinball 2 years ago is one of the best things that's ever happened to me in my life. And I I I asked that because I know Follow of the Empire is like that where you get your ball you have it's a timed ball save no matter how many times you drain. Yep. As is like a Godzilla. But this Dungeons and Dragons if you drain being a newer game you drain off that ball save it kills your ball save. Okay. And I think same with Foo Fighters like that.
