## Analysis

Cary Hardy responds to Spooky Pinball's official announcement of Halloween as their next game title. Hardy expresses skepticism about the Halloween theme's mass appeal, contrasting it with Spooky's previous Rick and Morty success which sold out on theme alone within minutes. He argues that Halloween's success will depend entirely on gameplay quality rather than theme, and predicts many buyers will flip their machines on the secondary market. Hardy indicates a full game reveal is expected within days (around July 1st).

### Key Claims

- [HIGH] Spooky's Rick and Morty pinball sold out within minutes based purely on theme before any gameplay was revealed — _Hardy references this as a direct comparison to test whether Halloween will sell as quickly_
- [MEDIUM] Secondary market profit margins on pinball machines have decreased significantly, making flipping machines less profitable — _Hardy states machines that used to have good profit margins 'have drastically gone down and they're just not worth my time'_
- [MEDIUM] The Halloween game features a multi-tiered playfield with interesting mechanics — _Hardy mentions having seen the playfield underside and notes 'We've got a multi-tiered play field, a lot could happen here'_
- [MEDIUM] Spooky Pinball will reveal the full Halloween game details this week (around July 1st) — _Hardy recorded on June 29th and predicts 'chances are we'll probably get the reveal the 1st of July... but either way we're definitely going to see it this week'_
- [LOW] Many Halloween pre-orders will likely be from people planning to flip/resell the machine rather than keep it — _Hardy speculates 'a lot of those orders are going to be... people... buying them to merely flip their position on Pinside'_

## Transcript

welcome back well i come back from a few days vacation with the wife and spooky pinball has officially announced that their next title is halloween There are many themes in pinball that I can get behind that have been released or have the possibility of being released but Halloween is not one of those in my opinion and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be the only one that feels this way. When Spooky revealed that they were doing a Rick and Morty pinball machine they sold out tremendously fast and it was based solely on the theme alone they didn't even see what the game looked like and whenever the orders opened up they sold all of them within an hour I want to say it was a matter of minutes but either way they sold out very quickly on pure theme alone if they open up orders and have not revealed any gameplay or any other kind of images of what the game looks like and they sell out i will by all means be amazed i will be glad for them but i will also be amazed that they sell out on just pure halloween theme alone but i've also got to take in effect that the way pinball is right now i shouldn't be that surprised with the secondhand market going up i haven't bought a machine in a very long time because when I'm seeing machines that used to go for a certain price where I might be able to fix and sell for a profit, profit margins have drastically gone down and they're just not worth my time. For this game to interest, I believe a majority of you out there, it's going to come solely down to how the machine plays. We already looked and have gone over the play field on the underside of it. And on the other side, it looks interesting. We've got some interesting mechs. We've got a multi-tiered play field, a lot could happen here I mean technically it might be a theme that may not call out to a lot of us but the gameplay may be the turning point for all of us out there By all means, theme is not what sells a game entirely. It is what gets your initial sales, but I wouldn't say the theme is a make or break. By all means, the theme is a major component of the machine, of all the moving cogs, but theme doesn't make or break it. if the gameplay is then this will break it because of the theme the theme is not something that's going to grab people immediately if you say a theme like jurassic park that's a theme that grabs people immediately i mean even so with iron maiden iron maiden is not a band that everyone likes but it is a game that a lot of people love to play i put this video together mainly just to inform those of you what my current status is when it comes to spooky's next game and i will put another video together once they fully reveal their game to basically gauge how much my mind has been changed or altered in any kind of fashion so as it stands from right now with their simple teaser announcement i'm not interested in the theme it doesn't tickle me at all but i am definitely curious to see how the game plays for right now i believe the gameplay is going to be the main selling factor for this game i don't believe the theme is going to be what sells it i don't believe it will be i could be completely wrong and that's due to the market right now during the editing of this video it crossed my mind that i can't believe i didn't put this in here so this is post recording uh and uh i want to basically state that this is what's going to happen they're going to open up the orders they're going to sell out every one of them and the thing is a lot of those orders are going to be coming in people are going to of course put in their their deposit and everything but what really matters is how many of those that are purchasing the game are actually going to be having them for their own or are they buying them to merely flip their position on Pennside So I guess only time will tell but chances are we going to be seeing a lot of positions opening up on the market for your very own Halloween machine I mean, when I think about it, Spooky has not done a theme that I have been interested in yet. I mean, their latest game, Rick and Morty, the theme was announced. I knew what it was. but I had never actually watched Rick and Morty. So I got educated and watched, you know, seasons one through, I believe at the time it was only up to starting season four. So I watched all of that to be a little more informed on what the theme was about, uh, to each their own. Rick and Morty is not a theme for me. I personally don't really find it funny, but that's just me. I get, I get it that those of you out there find it hilarious. My family members do. I just don't so when it comes to theme spooky has not excited me yet more than likely we're going to get the full reveal of this game tomorrow it's currently June 29th so chances are we'll probably get the reveal the 1st of July like the beginning of the month or they like I said might just do it tomorrow but either way we're definitely going to see it this week so let me know down below what as of right now at this moment what your current feelings are when it comes to them announcing their next title as Halloween. Some of you have noticed that I've got a table back here all set up that is because I have got to play catch up on getting some material out to you guys. I've been busy doing a number of different things as well as a little mini vacation so I'm hoping to play catch up right now. You just running like your shoes fell off. When we get here she says she thought you're trying to attack me at first going to the gun show I was back then I a noodle arm A noodle arm I do You want to tell them to hit that subscribe button Where? What about a thumbs up? Should they give me a thumbs up or a thumbs down? Thumbs down. Thumbs down? What kind of child are you? You're supposed to be on my side. Well, good. At least the other child likes me. Okay. Okay, well I do want a thumbs up or thumbs down tell me hit that subscribe button Down up I can get a pair of by scripts and then we'll just latch it onto that tooth and just Crank it out of there. You got to go get a pair of ice grips. What is that? It's a really heavy tool that I can clamp down. It doesn't lose a grip. It's not supposed to. And then I can just rip it out of there in one go. I don't want to do it. The thing is, I might pull out more than one tooth. Because my ice grips are rather large. So you might lose that tooth and the one next to it. Okay, do it. What's that mean? That means my watch has detected a workout. You girls are giving me a workout. We can't have that. Is that what it really means? Yeah, that was letting me know. It was like, hey, you know, you've been driving a good portion of the day. Playing with your daughters evidently is considered a workout in comparison. Oh, wow. you
