## Transcript

What's that sound? It's 4 Amusement Only, the EM and Bingo Pinball Podcast. from some of my subordinates. So it's taking all of my attention and time. We've been in kind of a perpetual crunch for about two months, and I'm ready to not be in that mood. So I'm looking forward to actually launching one of those projects this weekend and then another one on Monday. And once that happens, then hopefully some of the pressure will be off and I'll be able to focus on some coin-op stuff again. so I have set up my game room I mentioned that I needed to do that last episode and got everything put back together after York but I haven't actually taken photos of the play meters so I still don't know exactly how many games were played on multi-races or the multi-bingo I haven't turned anything in my game room on for the past couple weeks so it's going to be probably until next episode before I have the actual totals. So very quick episode today. I'm sorry for the brevity, but hopefully you understand there's other stuff going on. And I would like to be talking about RoboFrenzy, but there's nothing new to report at the moment. I'm about to drag the cabinet out into the driveway and prime it here shortly. So getting closer but nothing really earth So let talk about William Riverboat from 1964 My friend Steve has this game. It's a wonderful game. I really love it. There are five pop bumpers and two passive bumpers, and a couple of flippers, as you might expect, and a couple of stand-up targets, and a swinging target in the center of the game. So the idea is that there's multiple ways to win replays in this game. The game is all about replays, so it's way up my alley already. The two stand-up targets on the left and right give you a joker. If you get three jokers, then it lights the swinging target in the center for special. And you can just keep thwacking it, if you dare, and keep getting special on special. Very hard to do, but very satisfying, and you can do it in one ball. Now, unfortunately, the sequence resets after every ball, so you have to be on your toes for that. Now, there's another sequence that does not reset, and that is your poker hand. You want to get all, if I recall correctly, all of one side or the other. There are 10 cards total, and I believe you only need either all of the left or all of the right. in order to complete a straight, and at that point you can hit the bottom rollovers for specials. Now those you can only get one special per ball because it's the outlines. Directly above the outlines there are two rollovers, and the one on the left lights the yellow pop bumpers, and the one on the right lights the green pop bumpers. there is also a roll under gate above the swinging target and between the pop pumpers which awards you either 10 or 100 points depending on if it lit There are also two stand-up targets. Above the pop bumper nest, the one on the left turns on the yellow bumpers, and the one on the right turns on the green bumpers. So regarding those rollovers down near the bottom that I mentioned, they're right above the outlanes. There is a nail that sticks out slightly underneath of those, so it requires a well-timed nudge and just the right strength in order to save your ball and put it back into play. This game is super challenging and very fun. As far as the cards go that make up your hand, you can get a card by hitting the center rollover at the top as the ball enters the playfield. or by getting a nice good solid thwack on that center swinging target. The cards selected, which can be changed by the passive bumpers up at the top. And one final feature of note, there are two rollover buttons on the left and right, which will turn off those pop bumpers that you so daringly turned on probably moments before by hitting that side lane and then nudging it back into play. This game just has everything for everybody, I think. It's a fantastic single player. One other thing to note, this game has the unusual features. The playfield lockdown, instead of screws, uses this funky system that Williams devised. It's very beefy. It's unusual. There are these two lockdown clamps and you release them and swing them out towards the playfield and then that allows you to raise the playfield If you do not do that then you cannot raise the playfield It an interesting system and definitely a different way to approach that Certainly different than Gottlieb's method at the time, which is to reach in and grab a bar inside the game in order to lift the playfield. But I think it works fairly well, and it certainly is functional. It's just different. So all that said, this game is fantastic. It's one of the reverse wedge heads designed by Norm Clark, and I'd highly encourage, if you ever see this game, it's a single player, go ahead and give it a try. See if you can actually crack a replay. It takes a certain kind of player in order to do that, and certainly to hit more than one in a single game takes a lot of skill. So that's all for tonight. Thank you very much for listening. My name again is Nick Baldrige. You can reach me at 4amusementonlypodcast at gmail.com or you can call me on the bingos line. That's 724-BINGOS1. 724-246-4671. You can find me at the Houston Arcade Expo next weekend. I'll be there for the unveiling of the acrylic bingo. I'm very much looking forward to that. It's a Golden Gate and one of the best games ever made in a see-through package. Cannot wait to see it and play it. And hopefully you'll join me there and I'll be there giving out play lessons and just seeing how the game holds up and everything. So looking forward to it.
