## Analysis

Zach Minney from Flippin' Out Pinball provides an extensive gameplay guide and demonstration of Queen Pinball by Pinball Brothers, a music-themed game based on Queen's live concert performances. The video covers playfield layout, major mechanics (Wembley Stadium multiball, Red Special multiball, Queen Frenzy), rule progression (song modes, band member collection, instruments, autographs), and extended gameplay footage showcasing various modes and the Bohemian Rhapsody mini-wizard mode.

### Key Claims

- [HIGH] Queen Pinball is themed around Queen live in concert, not studio recordings, to create immersion as if Freddie Mercury is reaching out to players — _Zach explains the design intent at the opening of the video: 'The creators of Queen Pinball wanted to make you, the pinball player, feel like you were just right there with the band as they were jamming out, so the game is based not on the studio recordings, but Queen live in concert.'_
- [HIGH] The game features 14 different song modes, each individually coded with different rules — _Zach states: 'Whenever you start the game, you can choose between like 14 different songs. They're each modes and they're each individually coded so they do totally different things'_
- [MEDIUM] Pinball Brothers polishes their ramps to a chrome finish unlike competitors who use unfinished steel — _Zach notes: 'pinball brothers does that unlike just a unfinished um unfinished steel or metal uh they polish it so it looks chrome'_
- [HIGH] The right ramp shot on this specific Queen machine is particularly difficult and requires significant flipper power — _Zach describes: 'it takes i mean damn it takes like that jaws up the ramp shot i mean you have to have some power to hit that so one of my tips is you may want to increase the left flipper strength on these games a little bit more than the right'_
- [HIGH] Bohemian Rhapsody is a mini-wizard mode with 16 shots (four stages with four shots per stage) that can be accessed via challenge mode by holding right flipper and pressing start — _Zach explains: 'I think it's four stages, four shots per stage, 16 shots. It's just really neat and very moment-like. Actually, if you stick around, maybe on a different video or this video, I'll show you that you can actually just very much like a stern, like you start the challenge mode in this game. You can do that by holding the right slipper and pressing start'_

## Transcript

Hello everyone, I'm Zach with Flip N Out Pinball with Straight Down the Middle and with the Pinball Show. Today I have for you a pinball machine that you just don't often see, based on one of my favorite music groups of all time, the musical artist, the band Queen. Freddie Mercury, Brian May, not only were they one of the biggest names, the biggest rock bands of the 70s and 80s, the hits by Queen hold up today. So rightfully, when the Pinball Brothers announced that they were going to be making a pinball machine themed around the intellectual property of Queen, like many of you when you hear Queen as a pinball machine, you're like, where can I sign up, where can I play, I have to own this game. own this game. The creators of Queen Pinball wanted to make you, the pinball player, feel like you were just right there with the band as they were jamming out, so the game is based not on the studio recordings, but Queen live in concert. It's almost as if Freddie is in the pinball machine reaching out to you in the crowd going, ahhhh. You're supposed to do the ahhhh, no. Alright, enough chatting, it's time to play Queen Pinball by the Pinball brothers. You all are going to see me jamming out during this game. It's nearly impossible to play this game without just tapping your feet, without moving back and forth. And even some of the code within this game, some of the rules, they have you boom, boom, boom. flip to the rhythm of the queen hit. We'll get to that, but first I've got to remind you, if you're ready to buy a queen pinball machine by Pinball Brothers, all you've got to do is go to FlippinOutPinball.com. That's F-L-I-P-P-N. That's Flipp, the letter N, OutPinball.com, or you can email me at Zach, Z-A-C-H, at FlippinOutPinball.com. We would love nothing more than to earn your business because at Flip N Out Pinball, we're more than just selling you a game. We're there for support after the purchase, and we're providing you with more. We're creating content, podcasts, videos, streams. Flip N Out Pinball is your source for fun. Really quick, left to right, let me give you guys a rundown of this game's design. Typical Italian bottom here. Pun intended, right? We've got two inlanes, two outlanes. One of the cool things about this left out lane is that it has a post, very similar to like JJP's, was it Hobbit? Maybe Toy Story, but Hobbit, where the post holds the ball, and then it fires it back, a kickback, but the kickback doesn't just go into the playing field, no, no. It actually goes up this alley and up and around the orbit. It's very satisfying, one of my favorite shots, actually, in this pinball title. We have four drop targets there for the piano. Then, as we're working our way up, you have a left orbit that sweeps all the way around. Now, the right orbit does something a little bit different, but the left orbit, nonetheless, does go all the way around. It does have a rippable spinner right there, which is very much appreciated. then we have this saucer right in here i don't know if you can see it on here but there's like a saucer in front of it though is a drop target uh you gotta knock that out of the way before you get into there one of the really cool mechs on this game another mech that really stands out uh more so than any other game that i know of on the market or ever made is it's a vuck so it's like a saucer buck where it kicks it up in the middle of the air and then there's like a spring flap there and it actually hits it up in the air and then the spring flap throws it over here and back down around to your right flipper. You'll see it during gameplay. It's super cool to see. You've got some stand-up targets. All the stand-up targets are translucent, which is really cool because then they can disperse some light throughout there and they can kind of tell you what to do throughout gameplay with different colors and different rhythmic coding. Right up the middle, you have your main shot pretty much of the game. We're going to call it a middle ramp. you can call the left ramp if you want but the middle ramp all stainless steel too pinball brothers does that unlike just a unfinished um unfinished steel or metal uh they polish it so it looks chrome but it goes up there it whips around and it has some options up there it does have a magnet if it wants to hold the ball and drop it into the pops it can do that it can also travel up and around it has a diverter where it can go to a physical ball lock right uh right there physical ball lock that holds up to three balls for Wembley multiball. Or it can allow that diverter not to engage and come back down. And then it's got two options here, almost like that Adams family or that Jurassic Park data East thing where it can either go this way up and down, or it can go straight to your, to the left flipper. So based on whatever the code is, whatever the rules are for that particular mode or that particular event in the game, it can divert it either way. So that's the main shot there. Then working your way over here, you have another drop target right here that's going to block a saucer shot. This saucer shot kind of kicks it up and out and then it rolls back down here. This shot is, it can come up here and it's a ramp. So I'm going to call this, I should call that, I guess I'll call that the right ramp, but it's under the big guitar. So it goes right under here, it comes up and it goes onto this wire formed here or here or up there or up there all kinds of stuff this specific example of queen that is the hardest shot it's just it's not the cleanest shot in the world it's got a lot of clunk to it and it takes i mean damn it takes like that jaws up the ramp shot i mean you have to have some power to hit that so one of my tips is you may want to increase the left flipper strength on these games a little bit more than the right that's what i've done all right all the way to the far right, that can be an orbit. You can swoop all the way around there, or it can be a diverted shot that goes to the upper play field. It's like a buck. It kicks it right up here, and then it comes down here, and with the flipper, you can hit the stand-up targets there. This is the Brian May area, but the stand-up targets, once you hit all those, then you can hit the lock area right back there, or you can hit this captive ball right here, all with different rules. We'll talk about that in a second, but that's your upper play field. When you come off of the upper play field, either you're to go in the lock and it'll kick it out to the right orbit i believe or if you let it pass right through here it's just going to fall on this wire form and come safely down to your right flipper then you've got this drop target right here and then stand up target in the back hit that down and you hit that and then you spell queen comes back down the the plunge is really interesting you'll see during the gameplay it's a it's a light plunge you got a light plunge it into a couple of different options we'll talk about that in a second but basic gameplay there is a lot of rules a lot of code in here but it's pretty standard easy to understand basic premise of the rules here you've got a couple main multi balls you've got some modes but you're also collecting things like autographs you're collecting posters you're collecting instruments and that's where it gets a little bit more uh complex uh convoluted almost at times but let's go through that now down at the center of the play field you see the band members right there you're trying to collect those band members you collect them by hitting their corresponding shot x number of times so like for example deacon here in the green high as a kite he looks i don't know if he's high but a deacon in the green is that left orbit and see this this insert right here it's outlined in green so it lets you know deacons in green it's outlined in green so you hit enough to collect deacon freddie mercury is right up the middle there he's blue that's the freddie mercury shot the tailor shot is the right ramp that it's almost like a teal the right ramp there that is for Taylor and then Brian May is that right orbit the upper play field kind of shot so that's where you hit those hit those enough you'll collect those characters. Let's talk about Wembley Stadium. Wembley Stadium you see the big Wembley Stadium in the back essentially if you hit this drop target this drop target and this drop target these three drop targets if you hit all three of those you will enable locks to be lit right up the center. Remember you can also lock the ball by going up to the right ramp too and up there. You get three balls, you get Wembley multiball going. All right, let's talk about the other multiball, the red special multiball. This is the right orbit that Brian made. It'll get it up to this main play field here. You'll see three stand-up targets there. See them? Boom, boom, boom. You hit all three of those and you'll enable the lock and the lock is like a physical lock. Boom, right back in there. You get, I think, I don't know how many locks you have to get. It's quite a few though. That's kind of hard to get started, but it might be like five. It might be 10. I don't know how many it is, but you get enough up there and you'll start the Red Special multiball. Queen Frenzy. Simple enough. You hit down this drop target right here and then you spell out Queen. Queen Frenzy. And then you're like scoring points and then if you hit that right Vuck over there, then you'll score the jackpot. Whenever you start the game, you can choose between like 14 different songs. They're each modes and they're each individually coded so they do totally different things that's another thing I love about this game but after you sufficiently hit enough of the correct shots that are lit in green I believe green shots which is kind of confusing with the multiball but you're hitting green shots to complete these modes once you complete the mode I think you you go to the left saucer there to finish that mode out and to start another mode. Instruments so if you if you collect these instruments down here if you collect all four of them you start stage set multiball I've not done that before, but each instrument is gained very similar to other music-based pinball machines. Each one of them is gained through different areas. For example, the piano, what would you think? The piano right here, drop targets, hit enough of those and get piano. I think you hit them all down and then there's stand-up targets behind it, which by the way, I love whenever there's something behind a drop target to hit. So you complete those enough and you collect the the piano. Oh, the bass. I almost forgot the bass. So the bass is, see these stand-up targets, one, two, three, four of them, that's E-A-D-G, the notes. You hit those enough and you'll collect the bass guitar. The drums is super simple. If you want the drums, all you got to do is hit enough of the pop bombers. I think it's like 50 of them by default. And then the electric guitars up top on that top play field, that captive ball up here, bam, smoke that thing enough and you'll with the electric guitar. And again, you get all of those and you get to stage set multiple. Autographs. Now you see these autographs right under the band members here. You've got to spell their names out. So like the left orbit, you've got to spell Deacon, D-E-A-C-O-N. Center ramp, you got to spell Mercury for Freddie Mercury. The right ramp, you have to spell Taylor, T-A-Y-L-O-R. and the right orbit you just have to spell may i get that one pretty easy and then once you spell out those specific names you'll get the autograph as well as a shot multiplier too but if you collect all of them now i've not done it before but if you collect all of the autographs and then get it into the left buck there you'll start autograph hunter multiball i think if you complete three or four modes you can start was a bohemian rhapsody the mini wizard mode there's also another wizard mode called encore oddly enough when you light up encore to start it you actually have to drain out the right drain when encore is lit that's how you start that and then i believe if you do everything throughout the whole game everything i've talked about you can enable i want it all makes sense, right? But I am here to tell you today, ladies and gentlemen, we're not going to see pretty much any of that. You're going to have to do that on your own. Look, I don't want to give it away. You got to do it I can do it y I lack the ability to do it But I do have the ability to show off and have some damn fun playing Queen Pinball Let do it right now So as you see on the screen there, we can flip through the different... I told y'all I'm just gonna be jamming. I can't help it. You see the, uh, actually song number three, Bohemian Rhapsody, is locked. That's a mini wizard mode. Let's get to that today. That'd be awesome. All kinds of songs. I'm sorry. Oh, come on. One of my favorites right there. Love that song. Seven Seas of Rock, I mean, who doesn't listen to that every day? the hits are here I love these songs apropos here playing the game what are we gonna play what do you guys want to play I want to break free and get to the wizard mode of this game but I don't think it's gonna happen oh don't mind my wardrobe change and you see as I start these different songs if If I start, I'm playing that particular song and up on the LCD screen up there where it says choose song mode, you can see right under it reads you what the general rules are of that particular mode. Radio Gaga. All right, I like this. Let's play Radio Gaga where you're shooting the roving targets and shots that move to the beat of the song. Keep in mind, what I'm going to try to do while I'm playing this, I'm going to try to hit, I think it's green shots that correspond to the mode that I'm playing. It's a little confusing with the whole lock thing. So I'm going to try to hit the green shot to complete this mode. Once I'm done with the mode, I hit that little saucer to the left to finish the mode and start a new song or a mode. But also, I'm also trying to hit the three main drop targets in the middle of the play field. I'm trying to hit those to enable locks for the Wembley multiball up the rim. I'm also trying to get to the upper play field, hitting those targets. and if you hit all those targets here, you're going to get Brian May, you're going to get his autograph, but you're also going to start locking balls up there for the Red Special multiball. So we're going to do a number of things here, but I like it because it's very L1-esque, where a lot of your shots, they're building towards something, whether it's the band members, the signatures, albums, posters, instruments, all types of stuff. The skill shot is super cool. It reminds me of Congo, for those of you who love the Bally Williams game, the 90s game, Congo, because it's a short plunge on this. So what you're trying to do, you're trying to short plunge into these drop targets right there, into the piano drop targets. So that's what you're trying to do. Or a super skill shot, which is, I've not done it, but it's really cool. You try to short plunge all the way up into the out lane. Very Congo-esque, right? Or another super skill shot, you're trying to soft plunge into the in lane. Nuts. Let's try. Get in there, baby. Nope. Of course. I love that. That whole kickback thing is cool. That right ramp is just, it's tough. Right ramp is so tough that I've had to, one of my suggestions is to bump up the power of that coil in the settings. Alright. See the green shots? That's what I'm going for. Did I get that? No. Left orbit. Missed it. Alright. We are flailing right now. But we did enable the Wembley lock, so I'm going to hit that right up the gut there. It's going to physically lock that ball up there. Two more. There you go. We're also going up to the upper playfield there. Which is, honestly, pretty fun upper playfield. We enabled the locks. You need six of those to start that. So I don't know if we'll be able to show you that today. Alright, come on. Green shots on the piano over there. Wouldn't mind getting another ball locked here. I don't know how close I am on Radio Gaga to complete. Zero seven shots. Okay, so let's try to get into a multiball here. And I hit it up over the lock. You guys see that? There we go. Get wind multiball going. So I'm trying to progress through the mode as well as trying to get Jack caught from the multiball. Whoa! Oh, no. Double drain there. Look, remember I can lock balls up there because locks are enabled. Oh, my. Okay, so I totally drained everything. Oh, no. It gave me a ball. I thought that was it. Well, now it's done. Try to lock the ball up there again. There we go. That's ball two locked up there for Red Special. Four of seven songs lit for Gaga. And I've already made locks eligible again. So that's the one thing, good or bad. that you can get Wembley multiball going a lot, but there's so many modes and different difficult shots that it's not necessarily a bad thing. It's almost kind of like the Hobbit where you're like, well, sure there's a lot of modes, but because there's so damn many modes, having a lot of multiballs makes sense. All right, let's see. We only have one more shot to complete Radio Gaga. Where's my green? Far right. There you go. Got it. Now we're going to hit that scoop to complete. There we go. Locking the ball there. Oh, I might be able to show you some Red Special here. All right, so we can start the multiball, or we can lock and continue. I'm going to hold off on starting it, so it's a risk-reward. Let's see. So I've completed enough shots to complete this song. I have to hit that left. Right there. Right in the scoop. All right. So song completion, 11 million. That's actually pretty good for an individual mode. And I can break free to another song. It's just so hard. I want to go to. Oh, man. That's one of my favorite songs. Oh, we are the champions. Or we're going to rock you. Oh, I hate this. So this one, I got too hyped up. You're hitting the green shots again, remember? But I got to hit it for the music. I'll take that. these are all progressing towards the song completion so I'll take it all day alright what will it see you gotta do this but look at that that's how you get in and out of a mode 42 million little one bounces there isn't it but I'm gonna take it because it gives me two songs completed it was the upper playfield I mean, you do the upper play field. It's like, oh, what's that mode on the shadow? You're not so tough where you try to get to the upper play field and hit all the targets up there. All right, so let's go to. I love this song. So, again, let's try to get Wembley multiball going. We'll also try to lock some locks on Red Special. But that's what I want to do. Oh, I didn't hit it hard enough. It's alright, bad drain there, it's okay I get an album though Three posters Two tour passes Two of the autographs, I'd like to get all four So I can start that special multiball That was a big bonus Let's jump back into Somebody to Love On ball two here There's that plunge Oh, come on. Y'all, that was dirty. That was a dirty feed, and it should have been a ball save. All right, so we did get on ball one. Ball two is just complete poop. Yeah. I'd like to show you guys Bohemian Rhapsody, too. Let's get back into Somebody to Love, but I want to start... I want to start a multiball. Okay, calm down. Calm down. Alright, give me something good in mystery here. $500,000. $500,000. Uh-oh. Deacon's autographed the left buck. That'd be sweet. trying to get the pop bumpers there to sell 50 of them there's a ball locked to the right rail or no if i can get the left stock There we go. Completed that song. And let's see if it's three or four songs I have to complete to get to Bohemian Rhapsody. Look at that. Got that record going. And a signed album. If you do well enough, you get the autograph actually on the album itself. And of course, now, Bohemian Rhapsody. You have to get through three modes. Bohemian Rhapsody is lit. It doesn't even give you rules. It just says, look, it's an epic journey. I'm so glad I get to show you guys this. With $400 million into Ball 3, I'd love to get an extra ball, but they're not easy to come by on this game. Let start this which I believe is a 16 mode All right it just is for Maybe it on the Like you're not singing it to. Look. Alright, so we got four shots to complete for the intro version. Or the intro of this mode. There's one. No, no, no, no, no. Oh, good. I didn't want to show off too much of Bohemian Rhapsody. But it's super cool because I think it's four stages, four shots per stage, 16 shots. It's just really neat and very moment-like. Actually, if you stick around, maybe on a different video or this video, I'll show you that you can actually just very much like a stern, like you start the challenge mode in this game. You can do that by holding the right slipper and pressing start to start a game. And you'll enter into like a, it's almost like a speed run of Bohemian Rhapsody. So that's Queen overall. If you guys want to hang out a little bit, I'm going to show you a little bit more. Maybe the Red Special Multi Bowl. Maybe one of the multi bowls associated with the autographs of the band members or even the instruments. and I'll show you some more song modes as well. So not a horrible score there. I'm happy with it. This game is just kind of addictive. It really is because it's all there. You can get to it, but it's really hard to complete at all. I'll take that. Number three. Alright, I'm supposed to tell you at this point, if you're ready to buy one of these Queen's Head Moments games, All you have to do is go to flippingoutpinball.com and order one today. Or you can email me at Zach, Z-A-C-H, at flip, the letter N, out to pinball.com. Did you see that? I cheated. I cheated. I shat. I shat that skill shot there. I'm not going to lie. I like for real tried to do it, but I didn't think it was going to work. And now I'm kind of gloating and proud of myself that I did it. What song am I even on here? This is Hammer. Hammer to Fall. What a tricky speed on that orbit. Look at that, yeah This is pop up bottom pop seems dead what are we gonna get for a mystery here hook it up all right we'll hold that bonus because it i mean your bonuses can get rather large on this game zero ten shots that was horrid I'm just ready to hit that and a multiball. Because I'm doing so bad on this mode, I want to get a multiball going into it. There's ball one. I don't know why I'm missing so many shots. What the hell was that? Zach. I fall too long Zack We'll get an autograph Get up there. Oh, come on. Yes. Well, I'll save me baby We've got to get some control and get it to that center ramp. It's the easiest shot in the game until you need to hit it. That's pinball isn't it? Oh my gosh, just flying over that thing. There we go. Man, I needed as much help on this mode as I can get. Alright, I still have my green shots for the mode there. I'm going to try to focus up top too. Quite a bit. Ah, too fast. Oh wow. Drain, no. No, no, no, no, no. Ah. Man. Anytime I get a game with, like, third flipper, upper flipper shots, and during multiball, I'm not worth a crap. But I can't focus on that many things. Okay. All right. Ah. Nope, that's it. So that multiball really didn't help out at all. I love this. God I love it. Oh nice. That's a Roger Taylor right there. Oh nice. That's a Roger Taylor right there. Fudge. Alright, so that mode sucks. Stay out of that song, Zach. It's bad. I really didn't do a whole hell of a lot that ball one. We're going to start another one bites the dust. Another one bites the drain. Let's love jamming on this. Alright, I need to get to that upper playfield and do some damage. Good. Good And I get to sign the album too That's good Modes almost over I'll go up top Try to get that stand up target there Alright, let's get those red specials going. That's all one lock for red specials. I thought that was the box. Ah, I was trying to graze the green and hit the scoop at the same time. That didn't work. Alright. Mode's done. If I could just complete it. Couldn't do it. If I can just complete it. Couldn't do it. It's not easy. Makes me nervous. That's how I know it's a fun game. Get in there. Oh, that was awesome. Rewind that one. Alright, song completed. Good. I want to rock you, baby. Actually, we're the champions. Get some Wembley going. And that upper play field, I want to get that red special. I really want to get that. Alright, there we go. Get that cool kickback going. That, that, that, that, that. There we go, get that cool kickback going again. Come on, ball save me. I'd like to get a little right orbit going, couldn't get it. There we go. Locked your lid up there, yeah. You can get some big points. If you find a mode that the targets up there count as part of the shot, you've got it. I do need to get that guitar stand up captive ball going too. That would be smart. Oh, give me a ball save. I'll take it. Careful, careful, careful. Calm down. Ah. Oh, you got to have some shot accuracy, Zach. It gives me a little anxiety. I go back to the games that give me just a little anxiety. Because it's fun. You got something that you're trying not to lose. All right, so I did complete We Are the Champions. I did complete Another One Bites the Dust. We gotta complete one more if we want to, or no? I guess one more for Bahamian Rhapsody. I'll try Killer Queen, but... You have to spell Queen over there. It's not easy. Get these locks going over here. Yeah, so this game, I don't know if I've ever even earned an extra ball in this game. Tough. Just so that I can show you guys this multiball, I'm going to go ahead and start it. But you can load up six points. They're going to be a hell of a lot higher. And typically, I try to go for four at least, but I'm on ball three. just show you guys some red special here they're gonna be the points can be here but it just a cool cool ambience in this in this mode trying to get back up to the upper Playfield there Unless you can stack Okay, that's done. At least you guys got to see it. Oh, no, it's going to give me a ball save, isn't it? At least we got to the upper play field there. Right when we dream. And then if you get in the lock, I believe, it's a... Yeah, I didn't get in time. But that would have been the jackpot there. That's it. I'm never going to get the queen. You got to stop the queen. There's no freaking way. I got some instruments I'm collecting now What did I get there If I could get that right ramp going I could complete that That autograph But it's so freaking hard Oh you're going to give that to me I'll take it Maybe I'll try to get Taylor Shortest multiball ever I was going to say maybe I'll get Taylor During a multiball There we go So I did get a... Ah. That's a good one. All right, what are we trying to go for now? I can collect the autograph of Deacon if I hit that down. Nope. See that's the problem you knock one on all I'm done they reset like they're a drop target bank. I drop that down Here we go didn't get Didn't get it Didn't get it Left fuck Come on baby Oh Oh There it is Alright so I got the Autograph The Deacon But then Taylor Man I just Dude I can't do it I can't I can't fucking do it It's just It's too hard It's too dangerous That's a no thank you. You may now choose a new song. Thank you. And if I don't blow it, I might be able to get Bohemian Rhapsody again. No, I blew it. At least you guys seen some more within this game. Again, instruments I had eligible if I wanted to collect the instruments of the bass guitar and the piano. Then I would have had to get the drums still, but I was right there for that multiball. As well as I was right there for Taylor's autograph to get that multiball. I don't know the band members, how close I was to that. I don't know. But again, hey, we got another high score. We will take it. And had a lot of fun. So, Queen, Pinball, by Pinball Brothers. I mean, it's one of the greatest bands of all time. Oh yeah, follow, like, and subscribe. Please do me a favor.
