## Analysis

Joel Engelberth from Flippin' Out Pinball provides a detailed tutorial of the Funhouse Remake by Pedretti Gaming, comparing the original code to the new 'Rudy's Nightmare' version. The video covers playfield layout, shot sequences, and rules differences, demonstrating how the remake preserves the classic design while adding new modes, animations, and increased gameplay complexity. Key additions in the new code include extra modes like Evil Clones multiball, Duck Hunt, and Join the Monkeys, along with updated display animations and adjusted progression mechanics.

### Key Claims

- [HIGH] The original Funhouse is an incredibly popular game with many arcade players having sentimental attachment — _Joel states the original sold a ton and is very beloved, establishing context for the remake_
- [HIGH] Pedretti Gaming obtained the license to remake Funhouse and added additional code — _Directly stated: 'Progetti decided to get the license, remake it, and add additional code to the game'_
- [HIGH] The physical playfield layout is identical between original and new code versions — _Joel explicitly states: 'The physical part of the game is the same between the original code and then the Rudy's Nightmare, the second version of the code'_
- [HIGH] The new code includes a one-and-done wizard mode rather than repeatable midnight modes like the original — _Joel notes: 'wizard mode is a one-and-done. At least what I'm seeing in the code if I play it now. That's it. I can't like the original funhouse. You can play that that Midnight mode multiple times in this code. It's kind of a one-and-done thing'_
- [HIGH] New code features slings that add time to the clock, which did not occur in original code — _Joel explicitly states: 'The slings add time in the new code, not in the old code'_

## Transcript

Hello, my name is Joel Engelberth and I stream on the Flip N Out Pinball YouTube channel. I stream every Wednesday night with my brother from 10 to midnight Eastern Standard Time. So feel free to come check us out live. A huge shout out and huge thanks to Zach and Nicole for letting me borrow this game. This is Funhaus Remake by Pedretti Gaming. Funhaus came out a long time ago and is a very beloved game. A lot of people have a lot of sentimental attachment to the game, playing it in arcades. They sold a ton of them. So the original Funhaus is an incredibly popular game, and Progetti decided to get the license, remake it, and add additional code to the game. First and foremost, the shot layout. The physical part of the game is the same between the original code and then the Rudy's Nightmare, the second version of the code. but we have outlanes here and then we have one in lane on the left and two inlanes on the right this is a pat lawler design that's typically one of the things he does is put two inlanes on one side uh one thing you'll see is this light left gangway so if you hit that in lane and then you hit the left orbit that's how you work through these awards here at the bottom same thing with the left side where it says light right gangway if you go through the in lane there and then shoot through this side of the orbit that's another way that you can work towards those of course there are specials on the out and then the other in lane the light mystery uh mirror tunnel that's kind of how you start your mode or your award or your perk there right up the middle so inlanes outlanes nothing crazy but what is crazy is this little lever right here because there's actually a second plunger on this game uh a second shooter rod and there's stuff you can do to light that and use that and actually shoot up this ramp here. To do that, that's the step ramp. To do that, you're actually going to spell step. There's S-T-E-P. And then the last thing you have to do is you have to get the ball in that hole right there. There's a little sign on it that says light steps ramp shot here, and there's an arrow pointing right to that hole. The only way to get into that hole, you either have to shoot into the pops and hope it goes over there or shoot this left orbit and hope it goes over there or short plunge into it. But two if you've done that if you've spelled step and you land in that hole Then this insert is turned on and this gate opens and so next time you either drain over to the left or you hit that left ramp The ball instead of going around will actually feed right down in here and then you can plunge During the original code. It's always set what your things are so score 500,000 light extra ball or funhouse frenzy when lit So you want to skillfully plunge into whichever perk you want that does change in the extra in the in the additional code So we talked about inlanes outlanes the extra plunge We talked about spelling step. There is an upper flipper here You're going to use that to either hit Rudy in the mouth hit the trapdoor shot The trapdoor shot is typically closed But on the original code if you hit the shot once it'll open and that ball come around It'll give you another chance to hit it and get it into the trapdoor or they're really the only other thing you're going to hit here is the super hot dog targets. There are three stand-up targets. There's a super hot dog mode in both the old code and the new code. So that's basically it for the upper flipper. You cannot shoot behind. It's not like you can hold this up and shoot behind. That's not a thing. Left orbit. Left orbit is going to go around and either go all the way through or it's going to feed the pops. Then you have the one ramp in the game. The one ramp in the game typically will feed the left flipper. But if you've spelled step and you've hit the step hole over here, it will divert and will feed over here instead. Then you have the mirror shot. That's how you're going to start your modes. That's the scoop right up here in the middle. That's how you're going to start your modes or collect your perks. That's the mirror shot. Once again, you light that by going through that inline. And then you have the shot right up the middle. This is how you claim your extra ball as well as you lock your balls for multiball, both in the old code and the new code. you have the rudy shot oh by the way if you lock a ball it ejects this way um then you basically we talked about the hot dog targets we talked about that now we have this shot the gangway shot that's how you can get into the pops or you can go all the way through and get through the orbit you have a scoop right here it's hidden under these balloons you can hit the scoop um but that typically where the ball ejects and that about it that about it for the layout Short plunge Oh when you do plunge there is a skill shot here There actually a hole back here It like Rudy hideout if you drop it in there for the skill shot you get some extra points Otherwise you can short plunge and try to hit that or you can short plunge and try to feed right to your right flipper So that's pretty much it for the layout Now when it comes to the rules and code Typically the main thing you're trying to do is time you're trying to fill up this clock So in here would be the hours and then outside would be the minutes you're trying to get to midnight You're trying to get to nighttime where Rudy goes to sleep. You're gonna wake him up, and that's how you're in a multiball So I'm gonna show that off, but yeah, we'll just go ahead and start so I currently have it set up For the old code the old code just had an alphanumeric display So this is all new, but it's basically showing you the same thing Rudy's gonna talk to you Tell you what to do You can see right now my time is 8-0, so 8 o'clock. So the old code starts you at 8 o'clock. You can see in the camera up there, I have light million on my mirror right here. If you want to change that, you hit it into the pops. So let's go ahead and plunge. Let's see if I can plunge into the hideout. No, I overshot it. So I'm at 8 o'clock. Hitting things adds time. So I'm now at 8.30. Let's hit a ring. Oh, we hit a step target, so that's 40. Let's hit a ramp. There we go. Now I'm at 55. The slings add time in the new code, not in the old code. Let's see if we can hit it into the pops. Pops added. Oh, that's right. The pops do not add time unless you're in Jet Bumpers at Max. Jet Bumpers at Max is one of the modes. So let's actually move it to that. There we go. Jet bumpers at max is now what's on that display So now if I hit the trapdoor, I will be in jet bumpers max And now if I hit it into the pot which you see are lit We will get time for that. See how the time is filling up? Filled up real fast Not only that did I fall in the hole for steps. So I have not finished spelling step to finish spelling step I need to hit s and I hit P now you're gonna see over here here. Oh, that's right. Up here is now lit. So let's go ahead and hit that left ramp. Divert it over here. You can see the insert now. And then I can try to shoot or plunge. I plunged way too hard and didn't get any of my rewards. But that's how you do step. This is how we're doing our modes. If we want to light another mode, I go through that in lane. So now if I do this if I hit the mirror I will light super hot dog so I have super jets going and I have super hot dog so super hot dog is those targets up there but the main thing I want to show here is being that I'm at midnight not at midnight I'm actually at 11 30 uh my lock is lit my lock is lit right up the middle so there's my first ball locked that's going to take me to 11 45 Let's see if we can plunge again Get up in the hideout Did I? Got it, there's Rudy's hideout So I plunge it back there So now I'm still at 11.45 So I can lock another ball That'll take me to midnight So midnight means multiball is ready to go To start multiball I need to shoot right up the middle Actually that's a lie To start multiball I need to hit Rudy in the mouth So let's see if we can wake him up Here we go. So now that he's awake, let's shoot the trapdoor. The trapdoor is up. Let's see if I can get this. There we go. That's millions plus, lots of points. So to restart that jackpot, we basically need to hit the left ramp. So left ramp is flashing. to open the trapdoor. So when you're in multiball, if you can skillfully cradle up, hit the left ramp, and then hit the trapdoor, you can just sit here and capitalize on points over and over and over again. Yeah, that's for the main code. You basically have your perks up the middle. There is a quick multiball on great multiballs. There is a quick multiball that you can light, and then there's also light extra ball, which is very powerful. The trapdoor up here, this is where You have to hit it once and then it pops up and then you can hit it again And then the other thing I want to show is these gangways So if I light left gangway it lit over there on the left and then if I hit it I get another insert So if I want to get this insert, let's see, let's try it again. So light left, hit the left shot, it's timed. There we go. Another insert. So you can work your way up that way to light extra ball. That's basically it for the main code. So the original code, it's all about working towards building. So now I'm at 7 o'clock because I've played the multiple once. We want to work our way. I still have Super Pops going or Super Jets. You want to work your way towards midnight again. You got your step for additional awards. And then you play your modes. That's about it. So what's cool, that's the base game. Now, if I want to show off the new game, all I have to do is push the left flipper in and hold the start button. What you're going to see is the software is going to restart. There it goes. See it says Progetti. And then this is where when you turn on the game, this is the menu you get. Old software, new software. So let's check out the new software. I went to the right and then I'm hitting start. So here's the new software. So same game, same layout, but you'll see the mirror or this display actually has animations. And it's everything the original game had, but additional code. There's more modes, there's more to do. So everything that I described originally is the same. The only difference is you start at, you have no time. When you start originally, you have no time. So let's see if we can plunge back into the hideout. Totally missed it. Now in the new code, slings give you time. So you can build up time, but you have to work all the way to 12 o'clock. Let me spell step, S-T-E-P. So let me get into the ranch. So this is different because you see here I'm trying to drown the clown. So you actually need to skillfully plunge all four shots to drown the clown. I also just started a mode so I have hot dog combat going, which are these shots up the middle. And then another thing that I'm seeing is it looks like there's a mystery ward because I have lock lit right now. So that is actually me locking I can lock balls for these for the final wizard mode without actually spelling Going to midnight now what I will say is that wizard mode is a one-and-done At least what I'm seeing in the code if I play it now That's it. I can't like the original funhouse. You can play that that Midnight mode multiple times in this code. It's kind of a one-and-done thing. So let's see what else we can do Let's uh, let's get duck hunt going so duck on is what's at the mirror So I have super hot dog going. Now I have duck hunt going. The duck hunt mode is you're shooting the left ramp over and over again. If I can actually throw the ball. Wow. Holy cow. There we go. And this is something where if you can stop the ball on the left flipper and backhand that ramp and face pass it over, you can get a lot of points this way. it's a timed mode you can see i have 33 seconds left so let's go ahead i'm actually going to drain just because i want to get these modes done so steps the same thing um scp following the following that there's just more modes at the light so let's see what we can do with those all right let's uh let's light a mode so i either spell time so collect 20 minutes or i Or I do, oh, this rollover. That works. So now I have Jets at max. Let's change that. You change it at the pops. There's light extra ball. Light million. There we go. Evil clones. Evil clones is actually a multiball. This is obviously new with the new software. So this is a two-ball multiball. Where the whole point of the two-ball multiball is to hit Rudy in the mouth. That's all it is. So hit Rudy in the mouth. There we go. There's the shot. This mode lasts as long as you have two balls in play so shoot again is still on so I can Do that you can increase the value of hitting him by going with left grant first Let's hit the left ramp. There we go ramp bonus And bop them again So I'm out of that mode because I'm down to one ball What other modes are there So I need 60 minutes to light mirror Let hit a ramp How many minutes does a ramp need 15 That an easy way So let do 15 more minutes The light gangway still works. So there's that one. There's five more. Okay. So let's see. That's open trapdoor. What other modes do we have? Let's look. Hot dog combat. We already did. Join the monkeys. This is the quick multiball that's in the game. So if I hit this, this is a weird mode. I'm not going to lie. Rudy and the monkeys. You can listen to the music. Right now all we have is drums. So the more switch hits you get, the more music that comes in. So there's no spinner in the game, so the best way to get switch hits is the pops. so you're slowly going to add you see everything's freaking out here you're slowly going to add instruments so we just got guitars so the more you play every switch it's yeah it's such a strange mode we're trying to add monkeys we're trying to get the band together so there we go now we have banjo every switch is scored there we go now we have base and so that's where you get a lot of points if you can keep the multiball going and just keep hitting switches so it's a goofy mode but it is valuable and it's safe because it is a multiball and the mode ends when you drink so yeah we can work our way through multiple modes there are more modes in the game uh but once you get to midnight that's when the locks are lit so let's go ahead and light locks Looks like I got that with a mystery award. So that's my second ball locked. And here's the third one. So this is a little different because you have to lock all three balls for Rudy's right there. Rudy's going to be asleep. Oh, that's right. To wake him up, the first thing we have to do is we have to hit the trapdoor. So this is like the wizard mode in the game. So hit the trapdoor. Now he's going to wake up. And you have to get back up there and hit him in the mouth. There we go. So that is the difference. Instead of doing trapdoor, instead of one shot to Rudy, then trapdoor ramp, trapdoor ramp, this is instead trapdoor Rudy, trapdoor Rudy over and over again. So a lot of points in this mode. You can work through this way. I think, I don't remember if there's something that happens after you do it multiple times. I don't think so. Oh, see, that's the other thing. He snores, so his mouth actually comes up a little bit. So, like, I can't get it in his mouth right now. I can now. There we go. So, it gets progressively harder as the multiball goes on. Yeah, that's basically it for the 2.0 code. I'm going to go ahead and drain. But, yeah. So, it's, take the original code and then add more modes. So, the quick multiball kind of adds a little more character to it. There's the evil clones mode. there's um there's the duck hunt super hot dog looks different but all the original modes the super jets everything like that is still there um so overall it's basically if you like funhouse and you want a prettier display and you want more rules to it and you want more to do into it then you're going to love the additional code um if you love original funhouse and you just want a really nice version of the original funhouse this is it it's uh all led it's beautiful it's in a beautiful cabinet so yeah there's plenty of fun house tutorials out there of the original code there's but i just wanted to show off the differences between the original and the new code so hopefully this was helpful uh if you enjoyed this tutorial please leave a comment please leave a thumbs up tell me what i missed tell me what i what you liked what you didn't like come check us out live sometime on the on the youtube channel and yeah thanks for um all the people that have subscribed recently we passed 5 000 subscribers which was awesome and i hope everybody has a good day and yeah come check us out live or feel free to click on another video.
