## Transcript

Now who's responsible, I say, who's responsible for this unwarranted attack on my person? I say, I say, I say, pay attention now, boy. This is, of course, Foghorn Leghorn presents the Pinball Junk Drawer. You all asked for it, I say, you all asked for it now, you're gonna get it. Boy, oh boy, are you gonna get it. Go, I say, go away, boy, you bother me. And just like that, we're back. This is, of course, the only pinball podcast to force choke joy into every pinball player in the world. This is the Pinball Juncture. My name is Darth Foghorn Leghorn. And with me, as always, Craft Brew Sally. Oh, you should have said, like, Princess Craft Brew Sally. Oh, I could. Not change. Let's edit it. Not change. Princess Craft Brew Sally. I am the Ed Wood of podcasting. I am not editing. But hey, everyone, listen to the second part first and then erase the first part from your brain. And it was just perfect. Anyway, we're here to talk about nonsense. This is the Pinball Juncture here on the Poor Man Pinball Network. Yes. Trying to think, you know, we had kind of a great couple of weeks in pinball. Yes, we have. Well, first of all, we did miss a shout out that was very important to us last show. And I was like, ah, dang it. As soon as I uploaded it, I was like, well, dang. Big shout out to Jamie. Yes. virtual yes you know uh when we he had written saying oh i'm glad you're going to expo we can you know bs a little bit and we met up with him at the mixer because i think he had to go after that right he did he had a wedding so he was leaving early friday morning i think like 5 a.m to catch a flight oh yeah to a wedding yeah double oh god hey but anyway uh it was awesome hanging out and talking with him and uh just cool dude and shout out to you jamie thanks very much you got your own you got your own special show yeah on the pinball junk drawer so you know i we're gonna get into our main topics i have a book i want to talk about a little bit that i picked up at expo and um and of course we're going to talk about our trip up to green bay wisconsin yes A shwabana. A shwabana. For one of the greatest pinball honey holes in the history of the world. Yeah. But before all that, I would say now the big releases are Beetlejuice. Yeah. Got officially released. And what else? And the Walking Dead remake, of course, the worst rumor that was never kept. The worst secret that was never kept, I should say, was released. now they also said that Cuphead has been cancelled oh yes that's right and they're like nope just stop you know yeah and it wasn't it wasn't like it was just a licensing issue or it is a licensing issue yeah I can't you know it's one of those weird things where you step back and you go how hard is Cuphead to but you just whatever that's we're not in those one of those things you can criticize stuff but the reality is you're not sitting in those meetings so you got no say. Right. I wasn't sitting there with whomever owns Cuphead and whatever that thing is. And maybe they had a change of heart and were like, no. We're going to launch our own official, instead of pinball, we're going to go with a cup and ball. It's going to be Cuphead, cup and ball. Or Cuphead, hoop and stick. So we're not doing this dumb pinball stuff. It's going to be Cuphead, hoop and stick. So I don't know. Doesn't matter. We weren't there, so that's the end of that. Right. Now, Beetlejuice, everyone crapped their rompers, and The Walking Dead, most people went, eh, okay, whatever. Mm-hmm. I don't... And I remember Beetlejuice. You know, we saw it a couple times, maybe. Yeah. I didn't really realize that it had this much stroke. No, I didn't realize it had such a following. I mean, people are, like, madly in love with it. I was like, really? I mean, again, I don't dislike it. It's not a bad movie. I mean, I haven't watched it for a very long time. Right. And my, just a baseline, my taste in movies is the worst in the world. I can vouch for that. The movies I like, most people go, is that a movie? That looks like mud. No, it's not a movie. It's not a movie at all. But it's what I enjoy. So none of those will be making it to like, you know, the deathbed, the bed that eats. Not going to be a pinball machine. Not a movie. Many of the hundred, what do I have, 300 and some kung fu movies I have? Not movies. Not going to be a pinball machine. If Grease 2 isn't a movie, those aren't movies either. But anywho, so, you know, like those, I'm not really one to. I'm glad you just totally ignored that. Yeah, I'm moving on. That's just called being a good husband. So, you know, like you go, well, that's, I mean, if everyone really loves it, that's cool and good for spooky. you know yeah that's really cool uh that it's like sold out immediately and all over the world but i i just was like wow you know that's that's it amazed me how much people were looking forward to this release yeah you know well there it's a very limited run isn't it isn't like 999 of them yes that's right okay yeah so and that you know that's not that's not nothing no but it's not at all but it's good it's a good run for them yeah for what they've got going on there that's good yeah they know they have their niche and they're and they're cranking on it so awesome awesome job with that uh walking dead i don't i don't i don't care about the show i don't care about the pinball machine i mean i played it a few times it had that gross thing in the middle of it where like its guts are falling out or whatever and i guess i guess it has a lot of people really like it for tournament play, I think, but I could be wrong about that. Whatever. I mean, Stern's doing their thing. It's cool that we're going to see one or two remakes a year, probably one, because that's going to bring some of the games that are hard to find that you like. That means there's making more of them out in the world. That's true. So it keeps the lines going, and it also gives you more machines out of the vault, as they say. I was just thinking maybe Stern could do a Harry Potter remake. But that's my wish. We have to spend more time on the Harry Potter. I know. I just had... I know. I'm going to go off on not a rant, I guess. I had plans to do something. Well, when we went up to Dave and Nikki's, it was officially my Insider Connect with hit 365 days consecutive. I played for a year straight and that has since moved on. Now I'm on like, whatever, 371 or whatever the hell it is. It doesn't matter. Leading up to this, I had this delusions of grandeur that I was going to write an article kind of talking about a year in Insider Connect and what that really means and the stuff that you go through to do that. But then I put a picture up you know, it was getting close. I put a picture up on the tribe and that was like, the only thing I heard back was nerd and nothing else. So I was like, okay, well, they don't care. Then you showed me a picture of somebody who had like 1150 days straight. And I was like, so this is nothing. I mean, it's something to me, but I'm not going to bother wasting time writing an article because no one cares. I think in my head it was like an accomplishment because trust me folks 365 days of logging into Insider Connect and playing at least one game isn as easy as it sounds No. You just go, we just play a game every day. Uh-huh. And what about when you're sick? What about when you're traveling? What about when you work 12 hours straight and you come home and you're tired? Yeah. So there's that stuff. But then just the flatline responses, I was like, yeah, this isn't right. I'm going to jettison that out of there. I don't think anyone cares enough that they would even read it. And otherwise, you're just opening yourself up to the Internet nonsense kind of. So, to hell with it. It was cool. And I'm just going to keep going with it. Yeah. But I guess cooler heads prevailed. Reality has set in. That's just the way that is. Do you have anything else before I get into this quick book review? Did you have anything? I know we're going to talk about Dave and Nikki's. Yep. Lumberjack Dave and... And Nikki. And Nikki, I guess. Lumberjackette Nikki. I don't know. That's not official. Those aren't even words. Anyway, so when I was there at the Pinball Expo, there was a table there that had some... I forget even the table that I got this of. It was like a... It was that one that makes the headphones things, wasn't it? I don't care. It doesn't matter. It was somewhere. And there was a stack of books just called Pinball from Santiago Chufo, C-I-U-F-F-O, Chufo? Doesn't matter. And I was like, eh, I have a pretty stout pinball library going. Like, I get most books out there that I can afford, that I can get a hold of. And this one is kind of like one of those coffee table books, where it's just pictures of some stories a little bit, but then mostly it's just the pictures of pinball. But what it is is it's all from Argentina. And Argentina has had a great many struggles getting pinball machines into Argentina, and it's been illegal and all that. It kind of comes and goes with nonsense that they have to go through. So there's not a lot there. so this guy is taking pictures of like i almost i call it like it feels like hot rod if you like you know i mean like yeah now hot rods in america use they were they're cool like the ones that are like not super pretty like the hot rods where the guy's welding stuff together and it's it's a really fast ugly nasty like rat rods kind of rat rods but those are almost now like purposely built with super expensive parts. I mean, like real hot rods. You know what I mean? Like those really, it's gnarly, but they keep them going. They keep working on them, you know? And that's a lot of this book. That's what it is. It's like these, like true pictures of pinball in Argentina where they're stacked on each other in leaky roof garage. Or, you know, and it's just like they keep them working and the guys there are obviously very good technicians because these are very old and they don't have the right parts or they don't have the right stuff, but they keep working on them or building parts themselves to keep these things working. I hear scotch tape works pretty well. Yeah. Nope, not in America. So the pictures are capturing a much different aesthetic to pinball than the very, very ultra-sheen books that we have from America where they're gorgeous and they're set in these barcades or they're set in somebody's basement where there's a row of the most beautiful machines in the world and they're all manicured and gorgeous. These are super played, just honest to goodness, hardcore pinball. And it just is a very cool book. It's a much different take. So I'm taking my time and going through it because I'm like studying each picture a little bit more than I normally would, kind of looking at the setting and the people there and the things that they're doing. And they're still enjoying it. And there are some newer machines, you know, but not like new, new machines. So it's just a very neat book. I really have enjoyed it very much. I was on the fence about buying it. I was like, just buy it. You know, it was $30. I'm like, just take it home. You don't really know what you're going to see. And I really am glad I did. so if you have a chance to take a look at Pinball by Santiago Chufo I hope I'm saying that right but I'm probably not C-I-U-F-F-O C-I-U-F-F-O but it's also pinballmagazine.com so it must have some affiliation there it's just neat, it's a very cool book and I would definitely say go out and check it out it's not super expensive and it gives you a different perspective from a different part of the world, which is kind of cool. Yeah. Like stuff you don't see, like we don't see that. No, no, no, no. Even when our friend from Finland said, like, they don't, there aren't a lot there. Yeah. So they have to, like, travel far to find it. So, yeah, when people, like, really love pinball, you know, and you can tell when somebody really loves pinball, you know, that means different things in different parts of the world. Right. Like I said, when I was in Korea, there was no pinball. And boy, was I sad. I bet. Because I couldn't. And I went to some of those Uber arcades in Japan, and no pinball there either. It's mostly just those things you put quarters in. The crane games. Or yens in, and get those little balls of things out. Oh, yeah, the slot things. No, these are the five-story or six-story Sega or Capcom buildings. Oh. that were like the floors three, four, and five are literally crane games that you can win like toilet paper and ramen noodles. And like you can win like actual things. I'm like, huh, huh. Yeah. And taiko drumming and like the stuff that they like there, but no pinball machines, you know. And I was like, oh. Was it cheaper to buy toilet paper and ramen that way or just go buy it? I think there's like, because Japan is very interesting in that Whatever there is, there's like a super culture of it. Like the train people, the train nerds. Okay. And then there's the otaku, which are, you know, the video game nerds. I guarantee that there's crane game nerds. That is this group of crane game, like, aficionados that can virtually win anything at any time in a crane game. So they'll come up with 500 yen and go, oh, I brought home dinner for a week and toilet paper and this iPad. You know what I mean? Because they're the superstars in that area. There's probably those guys going on. I was not that. I didn't do it. We're going to take a quick break. And then when we come back, we'll talk about our trip to Green Bay. How's that sound? Okay. Yeah. So hot outside. I'm so thirsty. Hey, Barkeep, pour me a Blandwich Lager. Come on, then, Ryder. A Blandwich Lager? Basically, it's a lager with zero flavor. It's a great alcoholic beverage for those that don't have the palate for beer. Tastes just like a lager should. You mean shouldn't? Exactly. Hey, Barkeep, make that two Blandwich Lagers. That's a good choice, mister. Blandwich Lager is enriched with crisp, zero-osmosis distilled charcoal filtered water, brewed with notes of white rice and boiled potatoes This beer is the wettest beer on the market Blandwich Lager tastes like nothing just like it should Blandwich Lager is brewed by Falkhorn Brewery in America's heartland. And like I always say, try Blandwich with a sandwich. All right. So now on to our main topic, which is, of course, as I've alluded to numerous times, our trip up to Lumberjack Dave and Lumberjacket Nikki's. Yes. You know, they had written after Expo kind of saying, hey, you guys should come up and check out our stuff. And I was like, that sounds awesome. No, you were like, that sounds awesome. Yeah, I've actually been able to see their collection a couple times because they usually host a ladies, Nikki usually hosts a ladies flip there once a year. I think you guys were talking about that up there too. There's going to be one, I think, February or March. Nice. Yeah. And I was, you know, you never know what to expect when John Youssi somebody's collection or what they have going on. And I never, I don't judge. You know, I've seen some insane ones. I've seen some really odd ones, you know, and I've seen just whatever, everything in between. But when I went there, I will say I was kind of blown away. They have very cool artwork everywhere, which if I have walls, I'm going to have artwork. I have a lot of artwork. I just don't have a place to hang it right now. But just the machines they have. And Lumberjack Dave, he's a tinkerer. So his stuff is really cool and works perfectly. You know what I mean? You can tell he puts a lot of care into his machines. And, of course, you walk up and there's a Big Bang Bar there. And I was like, holy crap. So I got to play that. And it is a fun game. I gotta say, I love that game. I think whenever you're playing a game that you know is impossible to ever own, it kind of hurts your heart. It makes you want it even though you're like, well, why would I? You know, you could get all these different kinds of machines, but then you get fixated on the ones you can have. You know, I was also, I was like, wait, is this what I think it is? They have a phantom from Haggis. The elusive Haggis phantom. That's nuts. Those are so rare. And the story behind it, I was like, oh, that's so sad. It was not easy, and it did not come cheap. But he got it, and boy, is that beautiful. My God, is that a beautiful machine. And it plays really nice. Because Fathom is a fun game. Yeah. But it's one of those games where when you step up to it, it's usually very loose because it's had a long, hard life. Yeah. And this one is just gorgeous. It's gorgeous. I love the, like, it has that, like, green and blue on the play field. Yeah. Like that green and blue, like, I don't know what you call it, like neon or sort of neon-y. Oh, it's so cool. And then we got to play that Banzai Run, which is just a fun, wild game. I guess I never saw one that was working before. That was the one where you line up on the top and then it does that, like, race around. Remember, it was in the garage. Oh, okay. what I'm talking about? Yeah. Because you guys were playing it and I was like, oh. Oh, yeah. You were like all over the place. Yeah, I usually am. Like normal. You need a cattle prod. Just kind of keep prodding me back to where I'm supposed to be. Right. You know, it was such a fun time. Yeah. And I did come away kind of going, you know, I really got to get more on the ball of like opening my machines up and cleaning them up and keeping them like nice. Like I don't abuse my machines, but I'll go a while without tinkering with them. Mm-hmm. You know. But then like, And there's things I know I need to do, but until I like – they build up enough that then I'm going to open up Godzilla and change the balls out and clean the play field and then do those one or two things I wanted to adjust or screw around with. Where I think Dave is more the kind that is like, he'll just open it up right there and fix it. Yep, yeah. Close it back up and you're like, well, see, now that's really nice. I don't know. It was a lot of fun. Yeah, it was a great day. Yeah. We didn't stay the whole day because we had to get back down here, but it was fun. And then also, because they're also relaunching... Lumberjack Johnny's. Yeah, Lumberjack Johnny's is getting some changes made that are exciting. Is it open tomorrow? No. Or is that last week? Next week. Okay. I think it's at the 19th. Okay, cool. So the Appleton location is going through a transformation. Yeah. He's put up, the Lumberjack Chinese has put up a couple teasers and some videos. So there's stuff out there that it's not super secret, but very cool. But check out their Facebook page. Yes, for sure. You'll be glad you did. I cannot wait for the new, to get there for the new thing. And we almost missed the shortest lived feature in the history of our show. So that's, of course, the numbers for last week. Now this will be, of course, at the relaunch, it'll be picked back up again. So you have one week's worth of numbers? So I have one week's worth of numbers. All right. So what are Lumberjack Johnny's sharpest axes of the week? Sharpest axes of the week for the week of October 28th in Appleton were Fall of the Empire, Dune, and Pulp Fiction. Nice. Three very solid... Dune. Mm-hmm. Oh, they have a Dune there. Yeah. I have to go play Dune. Yes. Okay. And in Green Bay, the sharpest axes were Fall of the Empire, Harry Potter, and Jaws. Okay. Now, did they pull the Harry Potter... Words, everyone. Did they pull the Harry Potter out of Appleton and move it up to Green Bay? Hmm. Or is there one in each? I can't remember. That I'm not sure of. I'm not either. That is stuff I need to... Well, we haven't been there for a little bit. So, very nice. What are the lowest ones? All right, so... The dullest axes. Yes. So, third worst is Venom. This is Appleton. Okay. Is Venom. Venom. Then Led Zeppelin. Yeah. And then Looney Tunes. Looney Tunes. Yeah. I would always assume Looney Tunes has some draw, though. Right. But maybe not. Maybe it was down. Maybe. But I don't know. Yeah. I think the newer ones have been kind of more reliable. Mm-hmm. All right. And how about the lower ones? Bottom at Green Bay. This one's going to hurt. Third is Elvira. Ooh. Yeah. And then second worst is, or, you know, second to the bottom. Right. Almost last. John Wick. Yeah. And last was Godzilla. Huh. That's weird. Which means weird. We have noticed that these numbers are all over the place. They are. It's so weird. Well, that's okay. I know that Big G is going to make a comeback, and I don't think Elvira is going to stay down for very long. And we're just curious, like, does this have to do with what the things are on Insider Connect? It could be. You never know. It's cool to keep track of them, though. Yeah, I know. I'm so glad that they share this info with us. Yes. It's really neat to see over the weeks. And if it's the Blood Red Kiss Surgeon Bell Virer and it's not making much money, they can kick it my way. I make room in our little busy lineup for it you know No that at Nikki and she not letting that one go into Lumberjack Johnny I know I know I kid because I always look at that one It's gorgeous. I'm like, oh, my God. They really do have some nice games at their house. Yes, they do. Oh, man. So many. Oh, we played the Total Nuclear Annihilation, and they have those ceramic pinballs. yeah they're heavy but they're not they're like just a fraction lighter and they make it so fast oh that game is crazy fast yeah and it's cool looking too and what was the new one they just got creature and a creature from the black lagoon yeah yeah it's so wild because he's such a wheeler and dealer like he drives all over from thing all over the place for things and i'm just like i hear these stories i'm like man am i lazy in my brain in my brain i'm like i am so lazy it's so Crazy. Oh, well, but it's a lot of fun, and it was really great seeing their collection and some of those machines, and you go, oh, that's so cool. Yeah, it was great to hang out with them for the afternoon, too. Yes, it was. They're cool people. They really are. Anything else before we go into the world's most famous segment? I guess so. Is that how we're going to say that now? I don't think that's how we're going to say that. Kyle's favorite segment from Stern. Kyle from Stern's. Keith? Kevin? What's his name? Kyle. Kyle. Kyle from Stern's favorite segment in the whole world. You're just name dropping. It makes me feel like a big man. Okay. I'm not, though. Craft brew Sally. Gonna have to put your journal down. Craft brew Sally Child. You've been to all the breweries around You've been rolling all over the town Tell me what to drink until I fall on the ground Yeah That's right, people. And we're back. What have you got for us this week? This week we're going to talk about something fun. Good. Um, so when we were arranging to go up to Lumberjack Dave and Lumberjack at Nicky's house, I can't say that. Yeah, no one should really. That's okay. He said, I have some Bigfoot that I'm going to, that I'll bring out. And you automatically went to and thought it was a pinball machine. Yeah, because there was like this weird pinball that was, it was, I thought, I thought he had like one of those, Like, Hercules had a rival that they tried to bring out called Bigfoot. There's only like two prototypes in the world, I think. It's just like another one of those giant goofball things. But I could be totally wrong about this story. I've never seen one in real life. I thought he had one up there, and I was expecting to come up and see one of those gigantic novelty pinball machines. But that wasn't what he was talking about at all. So what was he talking about? What he was actually talking about was a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot, which is a barley wine style ale. Right. Which I had never heard of before. No. And I was like, I don't really like barley wines, but these were so good. Well, because they were ales. Yeah. And I have discovered that barley wine, there are two different kinds of barley wine. There's English barley wine and American barley wine. And the English one is more malt forward. Okay. And American is more hop forward. Wow. Yeah, which I like. For the sophisticated palate. Yes. So I like the hop forward barley wine now. Gotcha. Because these were really good. Yeah, you did like them. I did. You guys are trying some from different years, in fact. We had a 2006 and a 2015. Wow. So these are like cellar beers. They get better with age. Oh, okay. Huh. Mm-hmm. And how many, do they do one of these every year? They do one every year, and they started them in 1983. Huh. Yeah. Now, are these like things that like sell out immediately, and you have to be like waiting in line and they get scalped and stuff. I would imagine so. Like I don't know very much about the distribution of them, so I'm going to try to find more info about that. Because you're in some beer groups, I think. I'm sure there's some super collector that will have all the info for you. Yeah. But I have turned the corner on barley wine now, so I will probably be trying others. Good. But only American. Only American made hop forward. Well, some of them are just like too sweet and like syrupy. Well, some of them are just wine. Isn't that just wine? Well, a lot of them are higher alcohol content. Where this one was 9.6%. Still high, but not crazy. Yeah. But you know how some of those like 11, 12, 13% are just very boozy. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. What was that one I used to stand in line and get you for every lie to me? remember those? I do how many of those do you have? those are from Big Storm down in Clearwater, Florida I think we only did those for like three years four or five years I think before we left the last one was the one right when we left I think so 2020 I think was the last one and that was the year we left I'm not saying that was the last one they made I just don't know we happened upon the first year yeah just by luck we were just there and i was like what is this yeah okay hey whatever so it's like a stout with a chocolate and cherry in it yeah like cocoa and cherry in it and the very first year they made them they were just in like a growler and they put that they put that like metal sticker on it and they and the brewer signed it yeah do you have that one i have the bottle every year okay oh that's cool yeah all right you got anything else for this week i think that's about it i think that is about it we did secure our uh our our rooms for our room we're sharing a room for uh expo again 2026 i was on the fence about that one we're going to free play florida uh because we have to get to japan one of these years i we pushed off this year because, well, you know, travel and America's not so popular outside of America. Heck, it's not very popular inside of America. So we're going to push it off until people aren't throwing things at you when you land. Right. So we'll see. All right. That's going to do it. And we'll, next week, our next show, I'm guaranteeing we'll be talking about the relaunch. We're going to have to get there as soon as they open and check them out and say hi to Wilson. yes and uh alright that's it thanks for listening everyone this has been Big Show 85 of the Pinball Junk Drawer and as always thank you very much skateboarder slippy slappy Samsonite Glenn for all your awesomeness sandwich with a blandwich and uh you know the Crafter Sally song yes catch you on the flip side one and all that's it man game over man game over
