## Analysis

Don's extensive Expo 2025 floor report covers new game releases and experiences: Winchester Mystery House (Barrels of Fun) is a breakout hit with strong demand and sold-out status; Star Wars (Stern) underwhelms with poor aesthetics for its $13k price point; Predator (Pinball Brothers) emerges as their best game but faces severe licensing restrictions limiting production to ~180 units ever; Jersey Jack's Harry Potter continues dominating; Hexa introduces a tracking app platform and announces Three Musketeers for TPF reveal. Don contrasts rising quality standards across boutique manufacturers against Stern's perceived stagnation.

### Key Claims

- [HIGH] Winchester Mystery House has essentially sold out with distributors reporting waiting lists — _Don spoke directly with distributors at Expo who confirmed game sold out and are maintaining waiting lists in case of cancellations_
- [HIGH] Predator production limited to approximately 180 units total ever due to licensing contract ending December 2025 — _Don reported speaking directly with Pinball Brothers representatives who confirmed ~80 units remaining after already producing ~100, with explicit denial of Alien Ripley edition and licensing constraint preventing further production_
- [HIGH] Star Wars LE ($13,000) lacks premium cosmetic finishes (Evergloss, radcals, foiling) compared to Barrels' Winchester at same price tier — _Don directly compared the two machines on the Expo floor, noting Winchester has gloss decals, powder coat sparkle, while Star Wars has flat glass, standard laser-cut sticker_
- [HIGH] Hexa's Plunger app is free, QR-code based leaderboard/tracking system being offered for licensing to other manufacturers — _Don played games using Plunger app, received demo of functionality, and reported Hexa stated licensing discussions underway with other companies_
- [MEDIUM] Three Musketeers (Hexa) will be single-level game with full reveal at Texas Pinball Festival in March 2026 — _Don referenced hearing this from Naps/Kineticist sources and from Hexa stating theme reveal at Expo, game reveal at TPF; notes some uncertainty about 'single level' meaning_
- [MEDIUM] Harry Potter (Jersey Jack) still has secondary market demand with slight markup availability for queue-jumpers — _Don observed people still waiting in line and noted Jersey Jack representatives saying they could produce for 2+ years; speculated on resale market dynamics_
- [HIGH] Evil Dead units sold through Great American Pinball fully modded ($16,500) are sold out; modding adds ~$1,500-2,000 over MSRP — _Don reported Great American had 6 Evil Deads with full Back Alley mods (middle finger, ripped bridge, trophy case, shotgun shells, airbrushing) all sold out at $16,500_
- [HIGH] Winchester Mystery House line at Barrels tent wrapping around entire structure ~40 people deep across 4 games — _Don directly observed and counted the line over multiple days; noted similar lineup structure for Dune game_

## Transcript

Rumbling through the hallways of the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center and Pinball Expo 2025. It's Expo Don here, ready to cover all the new games that I have played, as well as the rumors and news that have hit this the year of 2025 of Pinball Expo. Let's do it. Oh, hello, everybody. I'm recovering my voice. I rested up a little bit in the room, but I wanted to come back and do this show, Episode 212, for those of you keeping track of everything that's going on at Expo here. Now, I just did a show where I toured the Expo floor, saw the new things, but now I have absolutely played the new things, not just touched the cabinets, but got into it. So I want to just go around here for about 20, 30 minutes, and let me try to speak to my experience with all the new rumors, the news, the games that are out there, what's the food situation like, and all that. So buckle up, friends, before I have to go back to the show floor again and try to survive until 11 p.m. Let's start with Big Daddy Stern. It's the first pavilion booth or whatever that you get to when you walk in the door. Now, it's so strange to me that we have an accessory release from Stern Pinball. We have some news about Insider Connected home leaderboards that people have been wanting, and it still seems like the least interesting thing that's going on this week here at the show. So we got the Kong topper. It looks fine. The armor looks whatever. I was expecting to see it here at the show, but heretofore, as of Friday, I have not seen any of it here. There's plenty of Kongs. I heard there's an Insider Connected badge you can get if you log in today. I guess I'll make my way around there to do it, but there's just no enthusiasm, it seems. And I don't know. All the normal things are there. If there was any other year, I think Stern would be completely rocking it. But I am spending so much more time away from them than at them. So the accessories aren't here. I can't see them. I haven't been able to play with the shooter rod and comment on its rigid ability and playability. I haven't seen the topper myself. Maybe it was at the tour that I skipped completely this year. But that's where Stern's at. So far, it's Friday. There's no walking dead. And if memory serves, this time last year we saw Metallica show up Friday night and they were here all day Saturday with the biggest lines of the show. To date, there was not much of that going on. So Stern is here with a new Star Wars game. You already know what to think about it. Whatever you think is correct. I just don't think it's generating any of the passion that we're feeling. It's almost like there's a heating element across the hallway from Barrels of Fun and from Pinball Brothers and from the homebrew section. and it's just like baking my face in an intensity that Stern here is not providing. So let's go to barrels of fun, all right? That's what everybody wants to know, Don. How is Winchester Mystery House as a game? You know, I bought one. Did I make a good decision? The people that are there, are they having FOMO? Did they really miss out on this game? And I think the word coming back strongly is yes. So I was able to play this game. Was it late last day? It must have been early this morning. Sometime over the last day, I finally got to play it. I had a couple player game. I think Harry Hardy was hanging around flying his drone and everything. Somebody was reading, I think it was a Nap article, or I think it was Kineticist's Friday Report. I think they encapsulated it well. This is a Haunted Mansion pinball machine. We can't have a Haunted Mansion pinball machine because that theme is unlicensable. The owner of the license, Disney and the Greater Theme Park World, is not interested, at least at this point, in lending that license to us for pinball. They'll give it to Eddie Murphy to make a C-plus film, but they won't give it to us to make a thoroughly engaging, fun pinball machine. So we've got Winchester Mystery House. By now you know the story of the house, Sarah Winchester's mansion, building like crazy, seance kind of stuff. A little bit of a creepy vibe without really like, you know, it's not like a house of death or corpses or anything, but it's just like that mysterious, macabre kind of bump in the night seance thing sort of vibe that really fits for that, right? You're exploring a mansion. It's fun, but it can be a little unsettling at times as well. I'll tell you this. The game shoots great. I didn't have any problems with the layout. It's very interesting. I haven't committed to memory every single ball path that's there, but I will say there are multiple. And the running joke is that just about every game that comes out is a fan layout, is what people say. Well, that's just a fan layout. I know there's an upper flip or an upper play field, but it's still basically a fan layout. This is basically just whirlwind reskin, right? I don't think anybody is saying that about this Carl D'Python Anghelo's pin. I got to meet this guy, very nice gentleman. I wished him well and congratulated him on his sellout effort. And here's a little sneak peek. I did ask him, so is this one and done? Are you interested in making another game? Because from all reports, we are very interested in him continuing this process. And I'm happy to report back that he told me confirmatory. Yeah, he's working on another game. So hells yeah. Did Barrels get an L1? Probably. So game is shooting well. I didn't feel any brick shots. The flippers felt exactly like Labyrinth, exactly like Dune, which coming from strictly Stearns, it is a little bit of a difference that you can feel. But it wasn't like a soft, mushy flipper situation. Every shot is hittable. I didn't feel like the coils needed to be turned up. I was playing a fresh game first thing in the morning so there weren't overheated coils, and I was able to hit all the shots and do all the things. And if I may brag on myself, I was able to call shots a little bit. I was hitting shots with intention, which is something I wish I could have done with Labyrinth. I think Labyrinth's shots were a little bit tight, just designed a little bit on the tighter side, which made it a little bit difficult to do things like, you know, mode starts, mode completions, and things and so forth. I didn't have that problem here with this game. Now, I don't have a dozen games on it yet. I'm going to go back and play tonight. I think they're doing a private room in the hotel or somewhere where, you know, people that are connected or can sweet-talk their way into it can play this game in kind of a more quiet situation. I like barrels doing something like that, so we're looking for that to happen. So I'm going to go track down and up my game count. But, you know, I wanted to hit the orbit to the Pepper's Ghost box. I wanted to see the spider web graphic and grab the ball. That was amazing. I've watched other people playing where there was a mode where there were some candles that were in that Pepper's Ghost area, and you can trap them up in there. The palette really spins with intention. It doesn't feel like a slow rotation. It seems like it snaps right into position, similar to what we're seeing with the staircase mech from Jersey Jack's Harry Potter, which I think everybody's pretty much raving about because it is just a robust mech that spins quickly and is ready to go with gameplay. So this palette seems to do the same thing there in a way that's much more engaging than I think the last time we saw this was, well, aside from Ramp's Road Trip, RIP, was Gilligan's Island making coconut rum shakes or something, collecting pineapples and coral shells. So the game was fun. I like the wire forms. I like the diverging ball pass that they did. I like that they did it with a palette system. I like that there's magnets in interesting places, and I want to get some more games on this. So if you ordered one of these games, did you do the right thing? Yes, I absolutely think so. I've been talking with distributors here that this game was fostered upon them. They had, I think, half a day of heads up, so they were scrambling to get their allotments and get them to customers. And they're reporting back that not only have they sold out, so I believe at this point game is essentially sold out. Maybe a distro has like one or two machines, like it's a sweetheart deal for solid customers. But essentially, if you're walking up and you just saw the trailer and you want to buy it, this game is sold out. The distributors are telling me they have waiting lists now for this game in case people do drop out at this point. So I think the fact that the game has essentially sold out, there's waiting lists for it, yes, demand of this game is there for this game, and this isn't something that people are going to be bailing on deposits on like we see with some other games, like Alice in Wonderland, for instance. So yeah, I think you did good if you got this game. If you didn't, I still think you'll be able to get one. I don't know if this is quite an Evil Dead situation where this $11,600 game will be going for $15,000 in three months. But I can tell you, like, the fervor is high for it. Now, as far as, like, the game itself, it looks completely amazing. This is, like, the third generation now of the Barrels of Fun cabinet. We saw what they're calling the Horizon lighting, the Evergloss decals. The Thunder from Down Under Shaker Motor. I hate that name, but, I mean, I can't, I'm not going to let it bother me. But the game looks great. Like, going up and touching it, it's got that gloss. This is not just a decal. This is something special. This is like on those high-end, like, HEP restorations or something with, like, nice rad cows and everything. That's what this looks like. The teal powder coat looks good. It doesn't have that grit that Dune has. I understand the decision to go behind that kind of tactile thing. But I prefer the more smooth feel of a teal or just like standard powder coat without the grit. The teal does look like it's a step above the traditional just flat, glossy powder coat. It's got a little bit of that illusion sparkle in it, so that's fun. So it's a good-looking machine. It's fun to run your arms up and down. It's fun to look at, and it's fun to play. And the coat is interesting for only 25%. Remember when we were thinking they were shooting themselves in the foot with that? If this is the game at 25%, I think we're in for something super fun here. So I'm excited about it. I think you made a good decision if you got in on this. That was a risky decision because we didn't know how it was going to go, but that's where we're at. Game is fun. The line is wrapping completely around the tent, like the entirety of the show yesterday and today. It's about 40 people deep. There's four games in there. There's a couple of dunes. No labyrinths. They had a line for dune and a line for barrels of fun. I like how they did it. I need to see more about this UV effect that's supposedly in there. Flip N Out Pinball has a game as well. It's just on the main show floor. That's the one that I played, and then I've been in the tent kind of looking around. I'll try to look a little closer and with intent to see what this UV is, but Barrel's fun. Way to go. Way to arrive. I love the idea of a limited game that has something special, and I think you're really elevating what we're demanding in a pinball machine for $11,600. Look at Star Wars. It's sitting right across there. I'm a little bit angry about this. The Star Wars LE is $13,000. It's got a flat glass powder coat on it. There's no illusion. There's no depth. There's no sparkle. The laser cut on the side is just for a sticker of an AT-AT. The decals on the side have no luster to them no foiling in them They not radcals They not the Evergloss They not any of that I seeing some high restorations of an Indiana Jones a Radical one of the best Elvira, the one with the trunk in it, a Scared Stiff that I've ever seen. And it's got just radcals on it and like a cherry hard candy coat powder coating on it. And it looks completely amazing. And it's like that's the level that I want a $13,000 machine to have. I'm sorry. That's what I want if I'm paying that money. This looks like a Stern Premium that comes with some lights in it and art blades on the inside. I'm like, that's it. And I get if you wanted to make an approachable layout. But, you know, put in the embellishments that we expect from a $13,000 machine. Moving on from Stern, moving on from Barrels of Fun, we got Hexa next up. So I met with Antoine of Hexa Pinball. Great chum. Thank you for coming out here. and we had a space hunt from last year for Mob Burke's personal collection. That is back again as well as four of its brothers and sisters from France arranged in a little diamond formation there. You can go talk to the Hexa guys. You can get plenty of time on a space hunt now. I dig it. I got to play with their new plunger system as well on two different games, not just space hunt. So this is a system that they developed. It's an app. You download it, and basically when you start a game, a QR code will appear on the screen. through your app, you scan that code, and then it locks you in. My name from my account that I made on my plunger app popped up on the screen as soon as I logged in, and then I played my game, and when my game was done, my score and I think the time that I played and everything was recorded in the app, and they're telling me that that will stay in there forever. I can have a whole list of every game I ever log in on with this app. This app is free to use, and I think this should be the bare minimum that we deal with with Pinball. I know Insider Connected is very robust. It's the best thing Stern's got going right now. I love getting the blip-de-bloops when they pop up. I love the badges and the hunts and the ways to go back to games that I have and play them in a different way to unlock new playability and replayability, which is super important. So I know not everybody is going to be able to do that, but this is a simple app that communicated well. It was easy to use. It was free. And then I can kind of keep track of the games that I played. And then maybe they can build on functionality going in the future. Now, this is something that they want to license and be able to use with other companies too, and they've been in talks with them, and some of them are listening. There was even a homebrew game. Shout out to Ernie Silverberg. I was able to play his Monsters Incorporated, which also incorporates Plunger. I was able to log in, and it kept track of my homebrew game that I played on his game there. So my Plunger app now has two games I've played on it. I think it's super fun. So Hex is amazing. They're doing some cool things. I like this innovation they're bringing. they told us before the show that they were going to reveal the theme of their next game their follow up to Space Hunt at the show which they did, Three Musketeers is what we get, we get to play as D'Artagnan they're pulling on the literary probably open source unlicensed technically content from this adventure with Athos Porthos and the other guy remember that movie Disney did 20 years ago with Three Musketeers I remember I liked it at the time I want to go back and watch it again and see if it holds up so now the other rumors I'm hearing either from Knapp or Kineticist I read through all at the same time is that they're looking at making a single level game they said that the reveal of the theme was going to be here at the show and the reveal of the game is going to be at TPF in just a couple months honestly 5-6 months away in March down there in Texas in Frisco so their new game is coming out Plunger is going to be a thing single level game are they talking about like a Pulp Fiction type game or what exactly is to that or does it just mean that there's not an upper play field and maybe something was lost in translation? I'll try to find out. I'll try to get myself to France between now and then and see if I can even do a little on-site, give myself a little butcher's look about what's going on there in the world of Hexa. Really, I'm looking for an excuse to go back to France, man. Who doesn't love the south of France? It's a great area. These people are super friendly. I wish their company well. I'll tell you this. I've bagged on the game a little bit of Space Hunt because the most interesting shot in the game is up that long ramp that goes to the upper play field, and then you can try to go around the circle there and then hit that dangly bit in the middle that I used to joke was kind of just a tampon hanging there. But the shot was really hard because it was tight. You had to hit the drop target, and it had to be a pretty good shot to make it all the way up there. Listen, guys, I was playing the space hunt yesterday, logged in with plunger, and I was able to backhand that ramp, and my ball seemed to go right up to the upper play field multiple times without issue. I don't know what happened. I don't know if the geometry has changed. I don't know if the angle of the game was set at was different, but I had the best time on Space Hunt that I've ever had. And I've played Space Hunt in a couple different locations, had pinballs touring it around, and I was able to get up to the upper play field as much as I wanted to, which is something I was looking for that game. So maybe I've judged it a little too harshly. Maybe I was playing an early build of the game. Maybe the builds that they're doing now have much better playability. But if you haven't played it before, play it again, man. And I want to see this game at more places because it is kind of cool. Still, I need to get some more time on it to get my mind around the modes and everything. But when a company comes out, they have to make 100 games. They have to sell those to get some capital, get some experience, and then they build on that. We've seen that with Spooky. We've seen it with Turner. So Space Hunt is their game. So, yeah, that's great. Some companies really blossom after that, like the ones I mentioned. Other companies are like Quetzal Pinball, and they bring the same super hoops in Tokyo Drift. Tokyo Drift, which I GC'd on the floor today, thank you very much. And then they just kind of sit there, and then the factory burns down or something, and then, like, nothing's happening. So, you know, for every one of those, there is a successful company that comes with it. So, Hexa, a European manufacturer, and some nice guys, too. They were pretty cool. Let's stick with the European team and go over to Predator. Guys, this was hilarious. All right, so I went over in the morning, and I was one of the first people over at the Predator booth to finally play the game. I'll just go ahead and say that the game's fantastic I've played every Pinball Brothers game Queen, ABBA I don't really care to play those ever again Alien I'll play it when I come across it If I have time, I guess It is kind of cool, I dig the vibe it makes But it's not something I'm clamoring to own Predator's good This is the best game they've done This is the best helicopter that they've done The locks are fun, the Gatling gun multiball is fun The callouts are fun I even did the little thing where Arnold's yelling at the lady run get to the chopper you know and it's obviously not arnold's voice and i obviously did not care what i was playing either i loved hearing that it was almost funny that that arnold kept being hidden from view you know um it did not detract from the game at all the game's got amazing looking sculpts in it looks like it's already loaded with mods that you would add and uh these shots were all findable nothing was brickable um there was a fun little loop around the predator at the top with the spinners on it that you could hit from the upper flipper. You could hit it from the lower flipper. When I had to lock a ball, I could call my shot on the orbit, and I could line it up and hit it. Like, I was having a great time playing Predator. I played through multiple modes, played through multiple multiballs. I got all the locks. I beat the Predator all in one game with, like, the embellishments of the nice armor that's on the side, whatever that little countdown alien language is in the apron. Like, all of that was incredible. It was super fun. And, like, I was so afraid that this was going to happen that we were going to get a game, Predator, that has not been shown off, not been marketed, not been toured around the countries, not toured around Europe, hasn't been popping up at shows here and there, wasn't given to someone to stream for a bit and then given to someone else to stream for a bit and just make its way around, you know, just, like, filling up its dance card. this was a game that like we really the only thing we had to go on was some gameplay videos and some like weird trailers and like you know some content that went up that was taken down and then was that up was that official like what happened and then nobody knows what's going on with this game and then the whole time this game was going to be good the game was actually good i talked to the guys there and like without a doubt the contract to be able to produce market and sell this game ends at the end of the year uh so they have about 80 left uh that they're gonna be able to make like ever and i'm like well well that's just until the ellen ripley edition or something and they gave me a hard no on that it is not happening it's not gonna happen there's no way it's gonna happen uh they're they're not gonna do it even if they want to which they probably do it's just it can't happen like it sounds like the licensing is just like no way it's gonna do that so there's there's only gonna be like 180 of these games ever made ever and it's good damn it this is making me upset um this isn't as big of a botched opportunity as the loss of cuphead but my god like this is a good game it was super fun the people i played with enjoyed it too is it top 10 probably not but is it like a completely loaded wide body game with great sculpts and fun shots and you know if you were into predator like this was your movie you loved this is going to be your favorite game man i can say that it played well i had it in my hands i played with it my god this sucks that the game is so good it's not going to be produced anymore um now i think uh barrows of fun kind of sucked a lot of the money out of the room i think spooky's sucking up the rest of the money that's going to be available so not everybody's ready to rush out and buy a 12 13 14 000 european game but like if you like predator or you're one of these guys that's retired has your cool house and you're in your YOLO years, like, go pick up this game right now, man. It played really well. I dug it. Now, I don't know how it's going to hold up long term because it just came out, but, you know, I don't know. On the strength of the Pinball Brothers reputation, here's the game. I didn't have any problems with it on the floor. You know, we'll see what happens. If somebody ever owns it ever, geez, man, what a world and time that we are in now that games are incredible and being released in such limited numbers. What else we got? Jersey Jack Pinball is here. They have every one of their pinball games that they've ever made. Everybody's already played Harry Potter. They haven't revealed anything here. They probably don't need to reveal anything for a while. I think Harry Potter's still doing great business. I think if you have a Harry Potter that's on order and your order number comes up, I think you can turn it around and sell it for a slight markup to somebody that's waiting in the line that wants to jump the queue still. There's still demand for this game. This game's still good. Jersey Jack can build this game for two years and be busy, I think. and wouldn't even need to release another game. Now, every time I ask them this, they seem to say that they're still planning on keeping on track and revealing the next game, rumored to be Steve Ritchie's Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm here for it, man. I'm here for it. I'm starting to hear little whispers of people that have played it and said it's amazing. We'll see what that shakes out. I wouldn put too much into that at this state but I really want to see it It sounds like they going to have something Now I haven heard a hard date like it going to be by TPF I don even expect that I mean I didn expect Barrels of Fun with Winchester Mystery House either but here we are. But Harry Potter's doing great. Jersey Chex, like their whole company's outlook has changed because of this game. You know, when they were sitting there, you know, Elton John did okay, and then Avatar did Avatar, and then now it's just the Harry Potter pinball company, which we all knew was going to happen. Man, these guys nailed it. The mechs are fun. The game shoot's fun. People are playing it here for their first time and saying, yeah, this game's pretty amazing. Other companies are coming over and looking at it and like, yeah, legitimately, this is a good game. We would like our designers to come play it just so we can see what they did and really elevate pinball. I like when a product comes out like this that puts pressure on everybody else to raise their game a little bit, reach deeper into their trunk of ideas, and maybe go with that risky idea that maybe they would have held off otherwise. I love this competitive competition that we have going on. Let's lift up the caliber of pinball together and let's, you know, just atrophy the people that just aren't pulling their strength and then see where we go. Spooky Pinball, they made an appearance. They did not wheel a brand new game into the middle of the show floor. I may have been alluding to that a little bit on the floor just for fun. Can you imagine that, though? Like if these studs just wheeled out their brand new game, it would have sucked all the energy to like the epicenter of the show floor. It's absolutely not going to happen. So don't look for that. Don't look for a surprise announcement or anything like that. I don't know. Four weeks from now, probably could be in a completely different situation with another sellout opportunity. But we'll see what happens. But they're touring the show floor. They're here having fun. They're talking. They're getting ideas. I love this. I love to see them come out and like, this is what the competition is doing. This is where pinball is at. How can we continue to make pinball better? How can we take great ideas and make them better? How can we take bad ideas and get rid of them? All while having fun with pinball, man. So that's super cool. So the news from Spooky is no news here at this time. They're riding the wave of Evil Dead. By the way, Great American Pinball is here with six Evil Deads for sale. They're all sold out already. They were $16,500. For that, though, you got an Evil Dead with Butter Cabinet and Topper. That's $3,000 together right there. So that's up to $13,000. The extra $3,500 went into every mod that Back Alley Matt has done. the middle finger, the ripped up bridge, the trophy case, the shotgun shells, all that business, and about a retail of $1,000 worth of airbrushing to all of the armor, the legs, the lockdown bar, the side armor. And so all that brings you up to about a $1,500 to $2,000 upcharge, your procrastination tax for not getting in on the game early. So at this point, it sold out again. but the people that picked this game up that that great america pinball has made are getting the greatest version of probably the game of the year here uh as invisiglass as well like everything that could be put in there that needs to be put in there has been put in there uh you paid 1500 and procrastination fee for not jumping in ahead of time but at least you got the best version of the game especially when i mean comparing it to msrp is ridiculous because that no longer exists. So right now you would buy a used one for maybe $14,000 all the way up to maybe $16,000 for a butter cabinet with a topper. And for $500 more, you get all the other accoutrement and everything. So I think that is probably not the worst thing for a buyer to say, okay, I've got the best version of the game now, the best version of the best game of the year. Awesome. You know, some people will say Harry Potter's best game of the year. I don't have a dog in either fight. So whatever you think is perfectly fine, but yeah, it was a great version of the game, and I like seeing what they did with it, man. The airbrushing really did add a cool effect to it. So I think that's about all the spooky news we have from here. So what's going on? Let's do it for a second. So Dutch Pinball Experience, excessive DPX there. There's two Alice in Wonderland's here. There's Alice in Wonderland over at the Electric Playground Arcade. Game still plays like it played before. I'm going to go put some time on it. Beautiful looking game, artist subjective. The new topper add-on that Electric Playground does looks great. I think it's about $600 or so in an upgrade. It adds some extra acrylic, some extra lighting effects. I mean, in for a penny, in for a pound. Deck out your game if you got one of these things. We heard from them that they are doing Raza. That was their announcement. It's not Big Bang Bar. Great. It seems like they're doing 333 of these games. Fine. I think if they came out and said they were doing 3,300 of these games, it would be absolutely asinine. I don't think this is a game that needs to be made. If there's people out there that really want the game, I'm glad they're making it for you. It just doesn't excite me at all. It's an original theme, but it seems like something that Quetzal would have done. And it's got all the baggage, you know, of course, that we've heard about and talked about and everything. So I don't know. I think there's other games that are deserving, Cuphead, of actually being made. So it's a little frustrating when I see stuff like this being done. But, I mean, they bought the rights to it, so they might as well profit what they can off of it and make some money back. And maybe 333 is a little bit higher than their break-even point, so they can actually make some money on this and go forward with it. They've also said that they've got another game coming out. This is that rumored Back to the Future from Dutch Pinball. They're a little sneaky here. They said anybody that takes delivery of their Alice in Wonderland, which still hasn't been built, not all 500 yet, if you go ahead and take delivery of that, then you get first-in-line shot for a guaranteed purchase of Back to the Future. Okay, fine. I'm glad they're doing it with Back to the Future and not Raza. And not saying, like, if you bought an Alice in Wonderland, you got first dibs at getting a freaking Raza, as long as you don't cash in your deposit. Now, when's Back to the Future going to happen? Who knows? They're saying 2026. They'll reveal it, I guess. And then when the game's going to be made a year after that, I don't know. I don't know. At this point, if I was in on an Alice and it wasn't ready by the end of the year, I would get my money back. and I've already put my money in either what Spooky's bringing or I would have bought a Barrels of Fun game or I would have bought something else that's coming through. I would go buy a Predator right now. Buy a Predator from the show floor and reel it on off and then get my Alice deposit back, and I would be super happy with that. If you're happy with your Alice, I'm happy with you. Invite me over. I want to play it. I want to play it a little bit more. I do enjoy the upper play field. I just think for the price, it could have been done a little bit. The little things could have been done differently. I think a whole brand new layout from the team from Dutch Pinball with the Alice in Wonderland theme would have been so much better than just going back to the Papaduke well. But what do I know? There's the Papaduke fans out there. I get it. Enjoy your J-pop. I'm not going to fart in your Cheerios. I think that's fine. I want to go play the game again. I do have fun playing it and whatever. As far as Raza, at first I saw on the show floor the images that Nap Arcade had posted, which, of course, are the old Deep Root images. I lost all interest. I think it's the ugliest cabinet I've ever seen. I don't want the pin bar. It looks stupid. It looks like it's not comfortable to put your hands around. Like, what are we doing? It sounds like a lot of that stuff now is rumored to have been redesigned, so I'll hold that final judgment on it. But, you know, there's a fear of missing out on Winchester Mystery House. I really don't think I'm going to have a fear of missing out on Raza. If you really want to get one, go do you, man. I'm not going to shame you or anything. I'm not doing a boycott. It just seems like not the theme for me. I think there's more deserving cuphead-based games that I would like to see made instead. What else do we got? That was Raza. I don't know what I wrote down here. American Pinball, can we talk? Are you sitting down? Are you drinking a Pepsi right now because I don't want it to come out of your nose? I don't know what's going on with my very good and dear friends over there at American Pinball. They brought a new product to the show floor that I can't understand. Please help me out. All right, Whirlyball has made it here. we saw the computer generated graphics of this thing that looked like a skee-ball machine without any of the holes in it let me describe what I went over and played there's two of these games over there, they're called Whirl-O-Ball and they use some recycled parts from Galactic Tank Force the little turret pop bumper things are on there I don't think they light up at all otherwise there's a digital screen that is the scoring stuff and there's somewhat of a back glass kind of thing that says Whirly Ball I'm sure you've seen pictures now by this point so imagine if you took ski ball made it a little bit wider so it takes up more room um and you know that part on ski ball that's really fun where you roll the ball down it jumps into the holes and you try to score in the higher scoring holes well imagine if you just removed that part of it so there just was not that fun aspect of it and instead of having a fun bump at the end of the alley to launch your ball into the air it just rolled right up the wall and then disappeared into the nether zone, never to be seen again, all while a scoring light turned off. That's the game, okay? You're rolling at invisible targets into a nether realm. I don't know where these balls go. When the balls feed, sometimes they jump out of the trough and roll across the floor. There's just pool felt that's put down on the surface, which is getting all kinds of marks and everything on it. Now, they tell me that that's temporary, and they're waiting for like a new carpet or some kind of laminate system or something to go down there. I don't know the whole cabinetry has some unfinished qualities into it that's not very streamlined it doesn't look like a commercial product it looks like someone's prototype mock-up that they made honestly I was talking to some people and I said if this was like a 4th grade boy scout troop that went together and they cobbled together a cabinet and this is what they brought to their jamboree or church carnival I would think it's absolutely charming but when they told me that this is an $8,900 product that's like twice as wide as a normal ski ball machine, alley roller, doesn't have a lot of the fun aspects of that game, and just seems like it's not built to professional standards. I don't know what's going on over there, man. I mean, I'm not trying to be harsh on the folks. I want them to do well, but I don't know, like, if I had a bar and I wanted to put in something like this, I wouldn't buy this. I don't know who this is for. Maybe they've sold through and I'm just talking out of my rear end. I'm a pinball guy, not an alley roller guy. But what in the absolute heck is going on there? If you can explain it to me, please, please help me out. You know, I still have some friends at work over there. Wish them well, wish the company well, but I don't understand this at all. Why do you bring this? There's no price tag on it either, which is strange. I kind of think there should be a one sheet on what this is. I think it needs to go back and get professionally refined so it looks like a real product. You go to Innovative Concepts and Entertainment, or ICE, David Fix's old company, and you look at their ice rollers, and they look professional, and they cost about $3,800, and you can buy a whole rack of five of them with marquees with toppers there LED lights it engaging it looks fun like that what you competing with and i don know how you compete with it with this i think if you brought this to iapa you be laughed off the show floor i really don understand it uh there also a bunch of polycades there as well it sounds like they're doing a lot of business with polycade and accessories and selling light guns and add-on boards and things and the guy from atari's involved and like i don't understand that whole world so i'll allow like the arcade guys to comment to that People were having fun playing the polycades over there. There's a rack of American Pinball games in order. It was Berrio's Barbecue Challenge. Then it was, I don't know, some other American Pinball game. I'm trying to think what was it. Oh, Houdini. Sorry, it was Houdini, and then it was Legends of Valhalla, and then it was Galactic Tank Force, and then at the end it was a Hot Wheels. With that Hot Wheels topper, like the $22 set from Walmart, so strange. That's just like they live in a different reality than the one I think I live in, and that's why when I look over there, it's looking a little strange. I don't quite understand because, like, they're in their reality. I'm in mine. And it just doesn't look like something I recognize, what's going on over there. So I wish them well. They don't have a new pinball game to show. I wish they did because I'd probably go over there and get myself one, and I would probably review it well and encourage other people to get it, and we'd all be celebrating. But for reasons, that's not happening. But, again, maybe in that reality, in that timeline, it just doesn't make any sense. What else do we have? Homebrews. Let's talk this is the greatest part of the freaking show, man. The homebrew area is twice as big as it was before. It's not over by the bathrooms in the back corner of the hall anymore. It's in an opposite corner with huge ceilings. Marco has like a giant supermarket right in the center there where you can go and buy all kinds of homebrew parts and fun stuff. Shout out to the crew from Marco. They're super cool. That's where I got my WrestleMania LE. I'm still flexing it. I love that game. Come on, brother. And then there are about, without exaggerating, 25 to 30 homebrew games that are pretty professional quality from what I'm seeing all around the periphery there, even spilling out. I mean, Little Texas Chainsaw Horror Massacre. What is it? Big Trouble in Little China, right around the corner by the electric pinball pavilion, is even outside of this area. And it's playing exceptionally well, man. That's a professionally looking machine. Super fun. The modes are engaging. The shots are cool. If it was a professionally done game, I'd expect a little bit more complexity. But for a home game, it's absolutely, like, one of the best I've seen. But even that is not just a safe, like, this is the best in show. Because you've got Monster League Hockey, which we'll get to. So, you know, just going around the corner, like, the highlights, you know, the Harry Potter home pin is back again with way more polish than it had last year. It looks amazing. Monsters Incorporated is super fun to play. Like there's an inverted magnetic rail that comes down from a shot on the upper play field that you get similar to the quidditch shot in Harry Potter where, like, you have to shoot up the upper play field. The upper flipper has to throw it at that 180 ramp. And then it gets magnetized on an inverted rail just like pinball magic and then rolls down the play field back to a wire form. Super fun. All kinds of call-outs from Mike Wazowski in the game. These were generative, you know, AI has got – can just, like, nail this stuff, man. There's just tons and tons of lines of dialogue in the actual voices, which is amazing. And this is a homebrew game. So, dude, Ernie, what are you doing, man? This is incredible. Going around the corner, other things I was excited about. Pokemon's looking better than ever. Tony Hawk is kicking ass. There's another Legend of Zelda game that's coming along. Elf was there. There's a brand new game, which they're still working on the play field. But the theme, get ready for this, coming to America with Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, uh louis anderson um one of the early appearances of uh samuel jackson as well as like a like a coked up vagrant robbing a mcdowell's restaurant like soul glow is in this game guys if you haven't seen coming to america the country of zamunda it's just amazing man and the art is incredible i think they hired the homebrew guys are hiring like actual pinball artists now to do their design and it looks it, man. I can't wait until this game is flipping. This was the game that gets my vote for bestest show just based on theme alone. Based on gameplay alone, I think I'll give it to probably Big Trouble in Little China, but Monsters League Hockey is also exceptionally engaging. It's neck and neck which one's better here, and I think we're all better for it. Monsters League Hockey is a head-to-head game. I don't think this was a re-theme, although maybe correct me if I'm wrong. It looks like a completely ground-up, professionally made game. it's not an old game that was stripped down and redone this was a new play field that was made routed down the center across the median axis then folded at about 15 to 20 degrees and so it's all continuous art across that arc you know like we see with joust and things but like all one art and then you play against a person for three periods of hockey with like this weird you know kind of monster theme in the background there's some music that's thrown in there but like as a head-to-head game incredible I would love to see this make an appearance It'd be an actual commercial product. The word around the campfire that we've been running into is that it's time for pinball to go from dollar a play to $2 a play. And I think one of the ways that you can do that is by having a two-player head-to-head game like this that costs $2. Look, think back to how long games have been a dollar, right, since the 90s. Now think of the dollar value from like 1995 versus now. And so basically, we're probably paying the equivalent of like 40 cents to play a pinball machine now versus where it was in the 90s. So it's time for it to go up. You know, pinball machines have never been this expensive. The thought of taking a $7,000 machine and putting them on location and not even turning a profit until a minimum of 7,000 plays is nuts. At least if you got a return on investment at $3,500, I think that's better. Bring back the buy two, get one game free. Maybe ease the pain with buy two, get two, so you get four games for $4. or something like that just to ease it on in, you know, or maybe four plays for five bucks or something like that. But just to ease in the cost increase because I think that's what's going to help make arcades viable. I mean, they're dying off unless they're specialty barcades. I mean, we're seeing it. And with $13,000 games, just have decounters. What the heck? That's what you got to do. So the head-to-head was incredible. We were having fun with it. It's three periods of game. The gameplay is totally unique too. You know, you're worrying not only about your shots and your flippers, but you have to kind of keep a second eye on what's going on with the other player because they may snipe you or something. So it was super fun. We're all having fun with it. And I think industry is coming around and seeing this like how can we bring this out because, you know, for a location where pinball wouldn't really make much sense, I think something like this would. There's also those, you know, what do you call those, those proximity switches or sensors that are underneath right in front of each flipper. So if you're playing one player, the other flippers that are across from you will be able to react with the ball as well. So you can play a one-player game on this two-player head-to-head. And even during an attract mode, the game can just go in and kind of self-play against each other to kind of make some activity and get some people excited to come over. So imagine this. You're at the bar. You're drinking, playing with your friends. You look over. There's two guys or a guy and a lady or whoever, and they're just going at it on this game, just like an air hockey table or something, but in only a quarter of the size. and there's music coming out and lights and there's some frenzy and people are gathering around with their drinks to watch. And then you say, like, I'll take the winner. And then when the game is over, the new person comes in, loads up a game, and then challenges that person to a game. And then you just kind of continue like that. Like somebody's beaten four or five people. All right, that's it. I'll get up here and take you on. Here's my two bucks. Let's go. Like how fun is that? Like a little spectator pinball machine. There's no backbox in the way. There's no line of games on either side of it to get in the way. everybody can kind of gather around and just casually watch a game go off and then jump in and play against the winner or something or you and your friend or you and your date can go head to head i think it's super fun i think this would be a cool idea so this is probably getting home brew of the show but um as far as like single game experience single player experience i think we got uh big trouble in little china for the head-to-head innovation i gotta give it to monsters league hockey i want to go back and play it some more it's super fun game was rad man my list keeps going. This was a big show. I've heard people that aren't here commenting that Expo is maybe not the biggest or most robust right now. Forget it, man. This is just a day and a half and I've already done all this stuff. Let me go through just like everybody that I've been hanging out with. My homies, Don and Matt from Bash Pinball. You guys are incredible. Pinball podcaster Don. He's such a cool guy with nice long Panamanian hair. Dude, I love it. Ian Jacoby from Nudge is there too. They're making cappuccinos there on the show floor. Be sure to go check them out. Missing Pin, The Beard and Missy, they're over there with their cabinet wrap system. Zelda Homebrew is over there as a demo game for them to fold up and clamp down. Aaron's going to help me wire it up. Hopefully tomorrow we'll get it flipping too. That's super fun. Thanks for donating to the booth and the Top Topper competition, which is going crazy. We've got seven official entrants and tons of votes going on. I've got tons of prizes to give away tomorrow on Saturday. People that are voting are even entered in to win a play field as well, which is super exciting. Ryan and Kimba from Australia and the Phantom Tilt Pinball Podcast are here. I'm going around showing them all the games, showing my friends to them. And, like, it's fun for me to, like, show these people I know from Australia, these other people I know from, like, Chicago, and these other people I know from Arizona, and, like, we're all coming together at Expo Band. That's, like, really the best part of all this. Thanks for Mitch for helping out at the booth and being a cool guy. I was on the pinball roundtable with JBS and Retro Ralph and Electric Bat last night. that was super fun what a great opportunity to get in with those guys i even had some words with cadeta while he was trying on some jewelry he came over and said i so even had an interaction with him that wasn't total garbage so thank you for that and for being you know a decent person when we're out um you know at the pinball show and everything um and i think that's just about everybody i gotta get back to the show uh we're selling david fix shirts like crazy i met the man david fix he thought this was super funny i saw one of the david fix bobble heads that was made That looks incredible, too. This guy's becoming a fixture. More about the David fixture to come. I'm exhausted. I've got to get a Diet Coke, a little Fridge Sig, and get back over the show. I'll talk to you guys later.
