## Analysis

Zach Sharpe and Greg from Straight Down the Middle podcast offer first impressions of Stern Pinball's newly released Jurassic Park machine. Greg, a lifelong Jurassic Park superfan, expresses initial disappointment with the art direction—criticizing the comic book-style dinosaur artwork, the absence of movie characters and scenes (except one kitchen scene), and the exaggerated custom truck design. However, he is won over by the playfield layout, innovative mechanics (four ramps, the kinetic ball-eating T-Rex, switching car feature), and designer George Gomez's transparent explanation of licensing constraints. The overall sentiment shifts from frustration with thematic fidelity to appreciation for gameplay innovation and mechanical execution.

### Key Claims

- [HIGH] The game uses a comic book art style (Topps comics aesthetic) rather than photorealism for dinosaurs — _Greg criticizing the art direction as comic book-esque rather than film-accurate_
- [HIGH] A livestream of the machine is scheduled for July 29th to show gameplay and animations — _Zach and Greg referencing the official announcement of the live stream_
- [MEDIUM] The game will feature Nedry as the main story arc/antagonist based on rumors — _Greg mentioning 'rumors' that Nedry will be the story arc; not officially confirmed in this content_

### Signals

- **[community_signal]** George Gomez proactively addressed licensing and design criticism via transparent Facebook post with humor, significantly improving community sentiment (confidence: high) — Greg: 'George came out and he defended the whole monster truck thing without being defensive... it really did change things... it subsides some of the anger'
- **[competitive_signal]** Keith Elwin, regarded as 'Michael Jordan of pinball' and greatest competitive player, is now designing machines that reflect his preferred game styles and innovation interests (confidence: high) — Zach: 'He's taking from the games that he has loved as the most competitive and maybe the greatest pinball player of all time... This is the Michael Jordan of pinball'
- **[design_philosophy]** Art direction criticized as lacking thematic fidelity: comic book style rather than photorealism, absence of film characters (Grant, Malcolm, Goldblum), only one scene representation (kitchen), exaggerated truck design (confidence: high) — Greg: 'Nothing on the cabinet... you've got Isla Nublar... and then that's sort of it... nothing else has any other scene'
- **[design_philosophy]** Keith Elwin deliberately sources design inspiration from his favorite competitive pinball games (loops from Iron Maiden, spinner from Monster Bash) while introducing novel mechanics (kinetic switching car, 180-degree ramps) (confidence: high) — Zach: 'He's taking from the games that he has loved as the most competitive... but he's throwing in things that he's like, I want to see if this will work.'
- **[event_signal]** Official livestream scheduled for July 29th to reveal full gameplay, animations, and code functionality (confidence: high) — Zach: 'The live stream comes up July 29th... we've yet to see really the animations... we've yet to see what the adventure is'

Kitchen scene particularly praised.
- **[announcement]** Stern Pinball officially released Jurassic Park in 2024 with Keith Elwin design and Johnny Crapman artwork; available in Pro, Premium, and LE tiers (confidence: high) — Zach introduces the machine as 'Stern Pinball just released Jurassic Park for 2024' and discusses tier availability throughout
- **[product_concern]** Some online criticism that Stern 'cheapened out' on Jurassic Park, though hosts disagree, noting four ramps and advanced mechs are substantial (confidence: medium) — Greg: 'People are saying that Sam Stern... they've cheapened out. I'm lost on that one... The dinosaur eating a ball happened 25, 30 years ago... this is so much different'
- **[product_strategy]** Pop-up mechs on left end lane may receive code updates to trigger on-screen moments as gameplay progresses post-launch (confidence: medium) — Greg: 'One being right in the left end lane there... We need to tell Sam Stern what we want there... even if it's not there the 29th... we may see it in a couple months'
- **[sentiment_shift]** Greg's initial negative reaction to art direction (no characters, comic book style) was substantially reversed by playfield innovation and Gomez's transparency (confidence: high) — Greg: 'It's honestly what won me over and kind of subsided a lot of the other stuff... I'm like, dude, this looks fun.'
- **[technology_signal]** Jurassic Park features unprecedented kinetic mechanics (ball-eating T-Rex that shakes, throws, sets ball on ramp) and kinetic switching car in middle playfield, representing new technical execution (confidence: high) — Greg: 'The dinosaur eating a ball happened 25, 30 years ago... the way he eats it looks better... he shakes it and throws it he can set it on the ramp... I've not seen anything that has mechs and crazy toys like that.'

Greg, Stern Pinball just released Jurassic Park for 2019, and people want to know what you're thinking. I don't know what I'm thinking. as you're sitting for those of you who are watching at home uh so greg is in his spare bedroom right a guest bedroom and he's sitting in front of his bed with uh jurassic park sheeting right we've got flickering candle lit lamps that emulate the torches on the jurassic park gate we have uh memorabilia and toys collectibles in the back that are all jurassic Park. We've got a Jurassic Park shirt on. Look at that, you stud. It's classy. It's a button up. Classy is one way to describe it. He's got Jurassic Park hair gel in that actually smells like a triceratops shit. And what else you got? Oh, and when you enter the room of that guest room, I walked in there the other day, and the music starts. A motion detector with a the music starts. so it's a little overboard but uh yeah i mean yeah because i got a ton of shit i've got not on on my table like our crop kind of cut everything out but yeah so i've got um all all the original loose figures and stuff on my my nightstand you unboxed them no they were just they were actually mine from a kid okay um and then i've got carded figures and stuff stored i'm gonna work on getting display cases around here for for my carded stuff and all my my box stuff, but I've got some of the newer collection stuff and some of the Lost World stuff. I've got Barbasol cans. Is it an actual functioning Barbasol can? No, I don't have the replica one. I'm not a big replica person. I would love that. I would too, but I'm just not a big replica guy. I like it all. I've got all the... This one was just because I was playing it a little while ago. I have the games. I've got PlayStation 1, Jurassic Park for Sega, I've kind of got honestly You've got blue? Where's blue at? I've got some blue Oh yeah there he is I've got a big old blue down here Original Time Magazines and stuff with Spielberg and Jurassic Park on it It's a little bit of everything It's a little extreme It's a bit much but we know that you are a collector at nature and you've loved Jurassic Park since You were a wee little bone, right? Yes, tiny little man. So when did this obsession start? We've got to talk about this before we give our first impressions because I'm not sure there's anyone in pinball that is as obsessed with Jurassic Park as you are, my friend. And so much so that you actually have the Sega pinball machine lost world. Yes. That's the extreme. That's going to the max. That's dedication, yeah. Nobody has that. When did that start? oh dude like uh man i guess it was early 93 like i remember so i and this is kind of a weird thing so like i just i always loved dinosaurs and do you remember the movie carnosaur did you ever see carnosaur you know it rings like a bell i'd have to it was like a horror movie yeah and so like i saw this uh i'd actually never seen a preview for jurassic park i saw a preview for carnosaur on tv 13 inch TV that you had to twist knob. And so I saw these dinosaur toys in the store and the very first action figure I got was Alan Grant. And I thought that it was Carnasaur. I thought it was the same preview that I'd seen and this is what it was. You would have been about what? 8, 9? No, how old were we? We were 93? I was, no, I was 10 or so. Okay. I was 9. Okay. How old are you now? I'm 35 now. Okay, so yeah, I was 10 or 11. And then I bought that toy dude and then I bought the second thing I got was Velociraptor and then the next action figure I got was Tim Murphy and then it kind of went from there and then I started seeing the actual producer. Who the hell is Tim Murphy? He's the little boy. Oh, okay. And then I went to the drive-in saw it went and saw it about 3 or 4 more times With Diane, Miss Bone? Yeah, we were in an old what was it, a 240Z? Oh, how about that? Nissan. I remember it. She bought me some Jurassic Park playing cards and we played cards. You and your brother. That's cool. It was a good time. It progressed, dude. I got the compound. I got most of the toys and stuff. And then as an adult, I obviously bought a lot more shit. What about the comic book stuff? Did you ever get into that? Because I know you like comics. I never did buy the comic books. And I still need to pick them up just to have them for my collection but I never did get into okay that's pretty awesome man what uh is there a piece of memorabilia because I know when we talk on the phone there are actual props and stuff that you've considered buying is there is there something that you would love love love to have at some point in your life oh my god yeah I mean anybody would love to have the original any of the original wardrobes but okay um I looked at a point and I toyed with buying it because it wasn't super expensive but it was expensive and i know what you're talking about yeah william h macy uh just recently his outfit from jurassic park 3 came up and i was like okay that's affordable it's not over the top but it's jurassic park 3 and it wasn't it wasn't matching portions of the outfit you had his shirt and you had his pants but the pants was from a different scene that his shirt was from so it kind of turned me off from buying it and and i didn't buy it when you take two obsessions like pinball and jurassic park and you merge them you get a very very excited greg bone so that's what we're going to talk about today your first impressions of stern pinball's new release uh jurassic park now we know back in 90 93 we got uh data east's jurassic park the 97 we got lost world yeah by sega and we know the data east and sega are are kind of part of Stern Pinball, if you will. They kind of owned Data East, owned Sega at one point, and now we get a rendition with Stern Pinball. So we do know about this machine. The layout and design was Keith Elwin. This is his second production machine after Iron Maiden last year that won the Twippy for Best Pinball Machine of the Year, as well as other accolades. We've got Keith Elwin. We've got Stern Pinball. We've got Rick Nagel that did Iron Maiden Code with Keith. Keith develops the structure and the rule set, and Nagel and the team code this game. And then we have a new artist in pinball we'll talk plenty about that goes by Johnny Crap. You heard that correctly, Johnny Crap. So then we have, what else do we have? A bunch of engineers. When you saw that Friday morning, and I know I was just waiting for your call, you've seen the video. You've seen the pictures. tell me a little bit about your first impression of Jurassic Park because this is everything to you so initial impression was complete distaste kind of heartbreak did you know it was Jurassic Park was that a total surprise to you no it wasn't a total surprise we talked before that we had heard rumors that it was Jurassic Park or Jurassic World closer to time it sort of felt like we had heard from 10 different sources that it was Jurassic Park. Still nothing. You still never know. Yeah, that's true. But either way, whether it be Jurassic Park or Jurassic World, I had preconceived notions which was my mistake. The dream theme, and you think about it in your head like, oh, they're going to have this and this and this. Yeah, but I don't think anybody would have ever expected it to go where that it went. And that's the thing. Because I called you And I was like, my God, Zach, I was like, can you imagine what this is going to be like? I said, you know, it's got to be like, you know, for your ball save, it's got to be Grant. You know, Ian, freeze! You know, with the freaking. That reminds me of the Daddy East one. Yeah. Yeah, and I'm just like, oh, man, you know, you get to see the clip and you get to see, you know, Grant's face pop up there. You got the road flare. And I'm like, oh, my God, this is going to be stellar. and then the artwork. I'm like, you know, I was expecting this Frenchy style of artwork. You have all kinds of fan artwork of Jurassic Park, so you're very familiar with different renderings of Jurassic Park. Yes, yeah, yeah. And so, you know, I had this, and you based off of Stern's previous work with their current LCD machines and stuff. So, you know, I did. I had this built up in my head of this sleek machine, and then it's unveiled and it is not that it's not that at all different direction yeah you have no characters you have this oh you have one character oh yeah okay so yeah you've got nedry um and you it's it's nothing there is nothing else there's no grant there's no ian malcolm there's no nothing there's no explorer there is no jeep um and then you take the dinosaurs themselves and this is where that I start to get really mixed because there was not, and you don't even have that photorealism. Like, I love what Yeti does. I love what Dirty Donnie does. I love that stuff. So you didn't have to have this photorealism. But it went into this comic book-esque, like literally if you pull the Topps comics and you look at those comic books, it is that style. I did not like that. I didn't like it. I didn't like the drooling, snarling raptors. I don't like the Jeep or monster truck. It's not a Jeep. It's the truck. I didn't like that with the supercharger coming out of the hood. So you started seeing all of the little things that did not remind you of the films that you love so much. Yes, yes. And, you know, we'd heard that there was no assets. We heard, you know, that there wasn't going to be the movie clips and all that. When they announced, yeah. Yeah, and it's like, okay, I can get past that if that was to happen. I can get past that, because if you had your own animations that were good, of scenes sort of from the film, okay. But then you see that, like, nothing on the cabinet, nothing on the, I mean, the play field you've got, you've got Isla Nublar or whatever on there, Isla Sorna, whichever, it's Isla Nublar, I guess, on there. Yeah. And then that's sort of it. and then the dinosaurs. Nothing to the art package other than one side. I'm getting all over the place with it just because it's frustrating. This has been my weekend, everybody. Yes, every phone call. There's so much inconsistency and stuff with it that you literally portrayed one scene from the film on one side of one cabinet. It just made no sense to me because I love that scene. It's the kitchen scene with the Velociraptors on the premium. You're referring to the premium left side of the cabinet. Yeah, and nothing else has any other scene. It's just this hogwash of dinosaurs put together, your own creation, just like a video game or something. Now, a lot of pinball media is saying that Jurassic Park, it works for because it is very much a world in itself now with multiple films, with novels, with comics, with different video games, it has surpassed that typical film franchise. No, no, it doesn't. He said no! No, the reason that I argue that is because could you do that with Toy Story? Could you do that with Star Wars? I mean, because again, people have echoed it online. This is a generation's Star Wars. But you did not stay true to the film. You didn't stay true to anything I don't care if you go your own way You do your own action adventure And we've yet to see We've yet to see really the animations We've yet to see what the adventure is And what you're going to do in that LCD The live stream comes up July 29th If you guys are watching this later It was on July 29th You can go back and watch that on demand Yeah and so you know we yet to see that and I hoping fingers are crossed that we will go into that adventure But at the same time, nothing else has really stayed true to the films. And I think any other franchise, anything else that was to come out, I mean, Pirates got their ass ripped for it. It was Pirates. Who the shit cares about Pirates of the Caribbean? Jersey Jack Pinball, yeah. Yeah, and everyone just ripped it because the assets and everything else that weren't there, but those guys worked with what they had, and they still gave you Pirates, even without the assets. Do you not feel? Do you feel like that was part of the film whenever you played that Pirates of the Caribbean game? Yeah, exactly. Are you playing the films? I do. Are you playing just a Pirate World under Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean? No, because you still have some of the characters there. you still have the music is very reminiscent of that. Yeah, you still get the mini wizard modes are focused around the five films. Exactly, exactly. It does feel very film-like. I'm with you there. It does, it does. But this doesn't. This doesn't. And this is where I got reculed online by the one asshat. I said that it did not capture the wonder in all of the films. Because I told you, I said, you know, Now, Crichton, when he wrote these, Crichton was a passionate guy about ethics, about ethics and genetics and everything else. And you've completely lost that because there was a lot of that with Ian Malcolm, the way that his character was. And the book and the films are nothing alike, but their characters are somewhat similar in the homage and resonate from each other. Interesting thing to note, and you probably know this, viewers may not, but did you know that Steven Spielberg was about to axe out the Ian Malcolm character altogether? What? Did you know that? Terrible. Did you know that? No. Nice, I got one on you. So yeah, Steven Spielberg was about to axe it. Jeff Goldblum went in to interview for that role. and Spielberg said, I just want to give you a heads up that we're thinking about axing this character altogether. We're kind of just going to blend it into the Alan Grant character. And then Jeff Goldblum said he made a really hard pitch for keeping that character and what he could have brought to that character and they kept it. And thank God. Oh, God, thank God. Ian Malcolm was great. And this is all getting long-winded and I know that it's deep. Dude, this is Jurassic Park. This is your theme. this is the one thing in pinball for the next hundred years that is important to you, so we're covering it. Yeah, well, but like I said, I think anyone would make the same argument for a lot of pins. Like I said, Star Wars. Look, if Goonies came out or Back to the Future came out, I would be as specific, and I would be looking with a fine-tooth comb just as well. Yeah. Can you imagine if you really didn't have Michael J. Fox? Let's just not go there, because I don't want you ruining that for me. The DeLorean is the star, Zach. The DeLorean is the star of the film. No, it wouldn't. But you know what? You know what, though? If I got a cool-ass Back to the Future world, it'd be better than no Back to the Future at all. So tell me this. When you looked at this pin, when you looked at the playfield pictures the first time, a little juxtaposition here. How did you feel about that? About the playfield? Yeah. Okay. The shots, everything like that. Stern went in a different direction with this, and we see what they did. In a sense, it feels like they're probably going to give us what we've been longing for. We've asked for more integration as in a story and doing more. And I actually feel like they did take that step forward. Again, we don't know what it's going to be. No clue. These are first impressions. Yeah, but first impressions. We haven't played it. We haven't seen the gameplay. And you're hearing that Nedry is going to be the story arc through the rumors. Antagonist, yeah. And everything. So it's sort of what we've been asking for. It's not just modes that we play, but a storyline and something you immerse yourself in. So I feel like they are giving us that with this. And again, I can live with that. It's just the things like the Jeep and everything else. and Gomez came out and I thought that it was absolutely fantastic that George came out and he defended the whole monster truck thing without being defensive. Now, what if one would argue that, okay, Greg, I understand where you're coming from, but most people, when they see Jurassic Park and love the films, they're not seeing this with the magnifying glasses. You are as a diehard fan. and I can agree because I think most people look at it as just dinosaurs people are raving this machine they are raving this machine nobody's really brought up like wait a minute there's no volcano wait a minute the blue tinge in these raptors actually is more reminiscent of the Jurassic World series we'll get into that in toys how about saving stuff for toys because that's a whole other thing but yeah art wise I just like that it's the cohesion of just more focused on the raptors. And then you've actually got one scene from the movie, like I said, you've got the kitchen scene, which is beautiful. And Johnny really did do a good job on that. Oh, that is pretty. It is. That color composition in that, that really does pop. Oh, it's gorgeous. The guy did a great job with that. But that's my favorite cabinet. I know you like the LE. You're kind of partial to the LE. Yeah, this is an oxymoron, but for my money, Greg, the LE package is where it's at. It really is beautiful, man. I like that it's kind of the midnight. Things are getting a bit darker in that LE package. You've got the I don't even know what to call it, the Explorer, the, what are we calling it? The truck? The truck is flipped over, right? T-Rex has flipped over this truck or something has happened. It's a little darker, a little more detail oriented, And I like the composition of that back glass a lot better because you do have the gates, you have the truck, you got the T-Rex. And then is that the Indominus Rex? What is that thing? No, that's your, oh, my God, Spinosaurus. Crocodile. Spinosaurus. Yeah. Well, you know, you wanted to save this for Toys and Mechs, but it's more art related because there's only one toy with the whole Gomez thing. Yeah. Okay. Talk about, so they created for this pinball machine. they didn't get the the the ford license for the explorer they did not get the jeep license for the jeep wrangler they did create their own um own vehicle and this this vehicle is really predominant throughout the entire game which makes me think it's it is a type of character in itself you are driving this vehicle well and george came out and said he he said so so like what i was going to say earlier so it was nice that that george came out and and he said listen uh i love Ford. I love cars. I love Jeep. He is a big gearhead. I love these. And he goes, I would have loved to have had that, but we just couldn't secure the license on it. And I respected that. And he said, so I was tasked with developing this creation of this truck. And he talked about how he just loved it, which I respect. But at the same time... He has fun designing his own vehicle. Like a dream of his. Yeah, and at the same time, I wish that he would have pulled back and And then he would have, again, the consumers aren't mad. So he didn't do wrong. He didn't do wrong. This is my own opinion of it because no one else is super mad about it. People are bringing it up, but it's not a deal killer. I just wish he would have went a little sleeker with it instead of so exaggerated with the tires and with the fender flares. The engine. Yeah, the supercharger coming out of the top of it and everything. I wish he would have been a little more reserved with it. But at least he came out and he told us about the license. He expressed his enthusiasm. And when you do that, I think that Stern needs to learn a lesson from that. When you do that, it subsides some of the anger or just the disappointment. It really did change things. I mean, do you think maybe he was designing it to flow well with Johnny Kraft's package that he possibly? Yeah, because Johnny's art, it fits the way that his art does. So, yeah, I mean, I don't know, man. And, you know, he came out and he kind of made a joke. He was like, you know, for sort of for, and this wasn't his exact words, but sort of for everybody who hates it, well, the dinosaurs wrecked the hell out of it. That's right. In the game. He has a good sense of humor. I'm going to read off what George Gomez said on his Facebook post. He said, quote, most fun job in the world. I lead the premier pinball design studio in the world. I love Jeep. I'll own 2020. I love Ford. I tinker with a Resto Mod 69 Mach 1. Sorry, folks. Could not get those amazing brands in our game. So I personally got to design this. Way fun. I'm sorry I disappointed fans of those awesome JP Iconic vehicles, but I love designing this to help the boys out. They nicknamed it GMC, Gomez Motor Company. And if it's any consolation, the dinos will trash my design when you play it. And then a laughy face. hashtag design leads the way. What a great look for Stern Pinball. I think so too. And again, you know, when I read George come out and he said that for whatever reason psychologically, you're the mental man, it really did. The mental man. I'm the mental man. A lot of my disappointment washed out. No, because you're in love with George Gomez. That's why. A lot of it washed out. That's because you're obsessed with that man. That's why. Thank you, George. You're like, okay, I love the truck now. It actually has, it's redeeming. I love it. No, I still don't love it, but I respected him to come out and do that and say it. I love that story. I do too. I do too, honestly. I really love that story. So the rest of the art package, I kind of like it. We cannot move on without saying that there is a feel of the old and data east in this art package that I, If someone told me it was going to be that prior to seeing it, I would have really disagreed with that move. But once seeing it, Jurassic Park was my first pinball machine ever. So when I seen this, I seen the island there. I seen the different inserts that they use look very much so like the one in, I'm going to say 93. It might be 94. I'm not sure. but I see the chaos letters and we'll talk about rules and code but there's a lot of throwback there as well I kind of like it I don't mind it at all is it my favorite? I don't know play field wise I like it I can live with it it's a little mashed up but I do like that I like that throwback a little bit so let's go on to shots and layout this is Keith Elwin doing Keith Elwin Iron Maiden was maybe one of the funnest pinball machines to shoot with the loops and the freaking ramp through the pops. We've got four ramps on this game, Greg. Four ramps and an orbit. Okay, where are you at on the way this thing looks? Because to me, it looks like maybe the most fun shooting pinball in the last decade. And I agree. It's either going to be really great or it's going to be ass. I don't think there's a lot of in-between with this. And it's honestly what won me over and kind of subsided a lot of the other stuff, the look pass, is because I'm like, dude, this looks fun. Like, the whole monster truck in the middle of switching directions in the paths, like, we've asked for innovation. That's something new with those kinetic balls. Like, I don't know of anything else that it's into you. I've not seen anything. No, it's new. Well, some people say it looks like the flail on Black Knight, but I disagree. I don't think it seems like that at all. No, no, it's different. I can see that they look at it and see that, but no, it's different. And then, like you said, people are arguing. This is weird. People are not giving a shit about the art, and they're saying, oh, this is great with JP and everything else. But then they're sitting there saying that Stern, that this is not loaded, that they've cheapened out. I'm lost on that one I'm completely lost the dinosaur eating a ball happened 25, 30 years ago I'm like dude this is so much different this is so different man he shakes it and throws it he can set it on the ramp it looks like the way he eats it looks better and I'm like that's pretty damn wicked man the thing looks loaded yeah it is I haven't seen anything that has mechs and crazy toys like that. This is very reminiscent of the Bally Williams days and stuff, I think. When you had something like the glove from Johnny Mnemonic or the crane or whatever on Demoman and different things. I think it's packed. It's like you said, four ramps, dude. You took that inverted awesomeness that Borg did and did the two inverted ramps that you hit up. Yeah, Shawson layout for me, what I can appreciate about Keith Elwin that we saw and Iron Maiden and we're continuing to see here is that, and maybe this is just because he's just now starting, we're not seeing anything, not one damn thing that's cookie cutter on the whole thing. He always takes a very unique approach. He always, meaning a second time. But he's taking new approaches to pinball. And we know the games that he has publicly said that he likes are a bit unorthodox at times. So when I see things like, hey, everybody loves the loop in Iron Maiden, why don't we continue that? but let's take it all the way to the left orbit so that we've got that same continuous loop, but it's a bigger sweeping loop. And then the right ramp, to me, feels very much like that Iron Maiden right ramp, but this time, when you hit that right ramp, it feeds that side flipper, so then you can get right back into loops, or you can hit that vertical 180 half tower ramp and go safely back down to your left flipper The spinner up the middle is very it feels very Monster Bash I think what Keith Elwin is finding he finding his different design style And he's taking from games that he has loved as the most competitive and maybe the greatest pinball player of all time. This is the Michael Jordan of pinball, you guys. And he is designing pinball machines for you. And I think we're getting things that he loves from other games. but he's throwing in things that he's like, I want to see if this will work. The switching car, the T-Rex that's eating, the 180 ramps, the whole compound with the Raptor to the left. He's trying different things, but he's doing some things that he loves, but it feels so fresh and new in which we've never seen before. And that's what the pinball industry and the community really, really appreciates. Oh, I agree. I think so too. You know, you've got those posts that pop up, your pop-up post. Four of them in the premium LE, three of them in the pro. One being great point, Greg. One being right in the left end lane there. Yeah, which is great. Which me and you have talked. We're like, what is that for? Because it's not a mag to save. It's not anything else. We need to tell Stern what we want there. Oh, come on, Greg. We're hoping for a moment to happen. Something on the screen. A couple moments, hopefully. Yes, so that when it stops that ball, something happens. That's the moment maker right there, Keith. Yes. So that's what we're hoping for, which we'll find out the 29th. But hopefully we'll find out. And as code progresses, even if it's not there the 29th, we may see it in a couple months as this code continues to develop. I just don't understand. Of all things, I agree with you. I don't understand the people that said, oh, Stern went cheap on this one too. I don't know what they're talking about. We don't have innovation. You can only innovate so much in a pinball machine and make something completely different. Unless you want Stern to charge $25,000 for a pinball machine. Yeah, so I'm not mad at all, man. I'm not either. I'm quite happy. I'm quite happy with this. If we're talking about rules and code, we don't really know. No, we can't. What we do know is that you start out at the main gate. For those of you, you can go to thisweekinpinball.com for some pictures or Stern Pinball's Facebook or website. but on the main play field, you've got Island, was it Nublar? Yeah. Island Nublar. You start at the main gate at the bottom, and then you have two options, Greg. You can go left. You can go right. Left is a mode. Right is a mode. Probably capturing different dinosaurs, but you indicate which way you want to go by which way that jeep is pointing. So you can start modes, but you're progressing through that map up to three wizard modes. Once you get to the three wizard modes, you do try the main wizard mode in Escaping Lumbar. It's pretty cool. I think it's cool. And going into the animations, we got to see in Elwin's video, the video at CERN release that shows the helicopter flying into the island. I'm like, okay, that eased a lot of fears. Then Sternen posted with the goat. Yes. Oh, Greg, that was cool. So I'm like, well, at least there are portions of the original stuff in there. So I'm hoping that there's more. I'm hoping there's more of that when it comes to the code and everything. Yeah, I think it looks good. I mean, honestly, like Elwin's design and seeing him shoot it is kind of what I actually got excited about it. I went from disappointment to, you know, you know how it wears off. Like, you know, you're super disappointed you had something in your head. And I've looked at the photos in that video probably 100 times each day. Yeah. And it put me at ease. It actually made me excited about the painting. I called you yesterday and I was like, dude, I'm actually freaking really pumped about a gift here. Yes, you are. I'm actually looking forward to it now versus I don't know if I'm going to buy this thing to like, hey, I really, really want this. Not only do you really want it, but you're likely going to purchase the pro until the premium comes out and then you'll buy the premium. It's staying, so I'll buy that damn premium. And I've got to get that shooter rod. Toys and Innovation. we'll talk about the shooter rod and toys and toys and innovation uh stern brought us more in this than we have seen we're i don't know if i was talking to you about it or somebody else when's the last time you've seen stern make a toy that was more interesting and awe-inspiring than that T-Rex that catches the ball, throws it around, puts it on. He's probably going to roar. What toy, Greg? Think about it. Oh, it's been a while. Nothing. Really. Black Knight was an awesome toy. This is better. Yeah. We've got the monsters. Groot's mouth just opened. It was an awesome mech. Groot was unbelievable. Killer. This is a little better. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. This is more interactive. I don't know. I can't think of the bell was cool in ACDC. This is better. Yeah. So for those that say that this is less than anything. Yeah. What? Huh? Yeah. The truck is cool, dude. What are you talking about? It's not TIE fighter on a spring. Like it's, it has a purpose and it's a cool new toy. The tower, the tower looks cool. Yeah. That's the integration right there. Yeah. So what is it? So you've got a drop bank in front of the Raptor. On the premium LE. Yeah, a Raptor that you actually hit and will move on the premium LE. Yeah, he jumps to attack the ball on the premium LE. And then you've got a post inside of all of that. Yep, that you can hold the ball. And in that section, so it'll catch the ball. The lift gate will come up. It'll let go of the ball, I think. And then you can bash that lift gate, and it bounces around in there like a Newton ball to hit some of the targets. Oh, see, I didn't know. That one section is like a game within itself. It really is because then you've got the left. It's not an orbit, but it's almost like a left path where the sea is at. That's got a post as well that I think you either light modes or start modes up there, but it's got a post that can catch that ball. It's maybe a ball lock for a two-ball or a multiball. Now, on the Pro, when you go to hit the Raptor, it's a pass-through. So you'll hit the back of that, and it'll trickle out to the left, almost like remember batman 66 when the one portion of that carousel is open you hit through and it comes back out to the left yeah yeah it's very much like that yeah i like that though too yeah so we've got that um we're not going to forget these pop bumpers especially on the premium le they went back to the old school like uh the translucent amber colored ones that i like better than the 2B flat plastics, and they have embedded in one a mosquito. Yes. Boom. Come on. Pretty damn solid. Theme integration. On the Premium LE, you also get on the hella something, hella awesome ramp to the right, you hit the fan blade on the helicopter. Yeah. That's really cool, too. Well, and you didn't have to. That's one of those things that you want to say that CERN is cheapening out on something. That's something completely that they did not have to add at all. It was just something super cool that's a little extra that's fun. I'm not mad at that at all. You and I love when ramps go behind the backboard. Yeah. They did it here. Not only that, the right ramp, very much similar to your Lethal Weapon 3, the little roundabout. Yeah. They didn't have to do that. No. Visually, it looks and feels good when it does that. Yes. I think it's loaded. I think the toys look fun. If I'm going to nitpick and say that something was missed, I'm going to go to, again, kind of screwing up of what the theme is. You're not doing Jurassic World. You've removed yourself from Jurassic World. but you clearly have good old blue on your freaking play field as the raptor, which was a complete miss to me. And even the tower is sort of more reminiscent to me of Jurassic World than the Jurassic Park. But hold up. Is it a miss? Because if they are going for that, if they're going for the world of Jurassic Park, that is included. No, because there's absolutely nothing else in that unless they do something with the LCD, which I think would be way off because the two parks are nothing alike. It's not. I think it's a mistake. I don't think that there's anything else in there at all that is reminiscent of Jurassic World other than that. I don't know if it has to. Oh, I think it does. I don't. if you're doing the Jurassic Park license and you're trying to pay tribute to the entire brand of that then Blue is a pretty important Raptor so why not make one look a little bit like Blue to throw tribute to no because it's not true they're the same thing but they're not the same thing I think so they're the same brand they're the same franchise but they're not it's it just does not belong If the Universal Studios, they were doing like Star Wars is doing, do you think they would call it, if they were doing a whole area of Jurassic World, Jurassic Park, do you think they would call it Jurassic Park, but we've got a wall here, and once you cross, that's Jurassic World. No, they're just going to do Jurassic Park. You're going to see Chris Pratt and Blue in there in the Jurassic Park land. That's what I'm trying to say. I don't know. Like that. I don't know. It's a little crazy. Hey, real quick, I forgot to mention that the tribute to the Data East, we've got a lot of the rules and the titles of the different modes back to that Data East. Smart Missile, do you see that shot? How satisfying that's going to be? Through the pops to that back target, that's your Smart Missile shot. That looks fun. I love the Smart Missile because your lost world has it too. One more disappointing thing. I got one disappointing thing too. is the T-Rex. I think that, again, you go to that genericness. Groot was so detailed, and Groot was so beautiful. The Knight is really cool. And this literally looks like that it's off the dollar store shelf with the little airbrush. No, it does not. I'm saying paint scheme. No. But I think the paint scheme is a complete miss. I think that the green of it with the freaking yellow up there, I think that it's horrible. like the first thing that I'm gonna do look at his teeth oh the teeth are cool I said the sculpt I said the color the painting of it looks cheapened whereas like I said Groot's so detailed and the coloring of Groot was beautiful I wish that they would have just taken a little more time somehow with the paint on that again it's just being picky but that's the thing that mod people can do you know you see a lot of sparkies redone and everything like I plan on having mine more detailed same thing with blue like I'm going to change blue out and make blue more of a freaking Velociraptor like from the original now the Jurassic Park 3 ones are a little they're a little more colorful but that's clearly again blue and the Jurassic Park 3 ones are like on the back glass we don't even talk about Jurassic Park 3 do we no but they put it front and center on the damn back glass that's a Jurassic Park 3 raptor yeah but 0.1% of people would know that yeah well they should pay more attention I think the sculpt like you said on the T-Rex is to die for oh way better than the original I feel like when I'm changing out of rubber my hand's going to get bitten yeah no I think it's awesome but again it's in those details look at that three dimensional gate what he's busting out of and the wires yeah it's not a gate it's the fence the fence you know what I mean the fence the wires the electrical wires oh Greg that's awesome I hope that when he starts moving I hope that that's one of the scenes it would be so freaking awesome if there was a spot that popped up on there and I wish there was little LEDs or something there that would strobe like the electricity where he broke through and I hope you get that whole like a when it breaks you know like in the movie when I'm talking about oh my god you hear that he shut the electricity off and he knows that he can get through that yeah I hope that there's more stuff like that that goes on in those scenes because that could be a game changer, man. I would say my only, I'm having a hard time finding anything, anything on this shots and layout toys and mechs to critique. it's it's I'm at my loss of words here because it looks like more fun than any pinball machine first impression I've seen in a very very long time the one if I had to nitpick I would have loved to have seen the spinner be an opto spinner rather than their traditional spinner because we know Stern can do that and I just love the feel of an opto spinner on Beatles and I believe on Star Wars, the home pin. So I would have loved to have seen an Opto Spinner. Or even the ability to sell as an accessory, the way you can change that to an Opto Spinner. Jesus, I thought I was picky. Man, I'm all about that spinner. I agree with you. Rip it, baby. Rip it. I 100% agree. I think this looks like the most fun shooting pin in all of my time. Oh, my gosh. All right, music and call-outs. We don't know what the call-outs are, but damn it, Greg Bone, we know what the music's going to sound like. We're getting the original score. How important is the original score to Jurassic Park? Mr. Expert Jurassic Park. It's iconic. You don't have to know anything. You hear that come on and you feel like dinosaurs. It's like smelling buttered popcorn you think of the movie theater. That is such a good video. I like that. I like that. Now, if I were to tell you this or that, Greg, the original is a John Williams, right? Yeah. The original John Williams score, who also did Star Wars. The original score or Alan Grant character Oh the original score The original score The original score beats out any character Okay. So they got that. Yeah. They got that. Just don't create your own shit. They got the score. The original score or artwork? Greg man it's still gotta be the score it's still gotta be the score yeah it does it is what it is here's the kicker the original score score to everything or movie clips score wow I could have done without movie clips as long as they do things like that they showed with the the goat and everything else. If they show, because when I heard there was going to be no clips, if Stern wanted to animate and they literally had another asset to the movie clips but they could recreate scenes even with the characters but in an animated way, I'm 100% down with that. I don't have to have movie clips. But I just wanted more of the film. More of the original Jurassic Park. But no, yeah. The score has got to be there no matter what. It's what it is. We're looking at all this. We've spoke about theme. Enjoyability, we don't know yet because we haven't played it. But we will very soon. You and I will both get one. You'll get the pro and then you'll probably get the premium. You would have loved the LE, right? But you just don't want to spend the money. It is what it is. I don't like the art package and I don't like the green armor. Now, are you going to do anything with your premium? Any thoughts as to what you want to do? Because this will be a game, if I know you, that you will own for the rest of your life. I'll own it just because it's a collection. It will be passed down to your girls. Yeah. Better not sell it. Keep it all together. I've got to edit that. Thank you. That's okay. All right. So the theme is the most important theme in your entire life, Greg Bone. Well, that's why I'm trying not to be like a snotty little bastard about it myself. Like, it's still... You're getting something that a lot of people will never get. Yeah, they don't get their dream theme, especially in a modern era. So, like, at least I got it, which is... And you got it at the peak of your interest in pinball. Yeah, and I got it from a great designer. Oh, you've got the greatest pinball player in the world that designed it. So that's what I'm saying. And the score! Hopefully people stick around for this good part instead of my ranting and bashing from the first of the video. So if you're still around, no, I mean, it is. I'm very thankful that, honestly, that there is a JP pinball machine that was made in modern day. Modern day, like the other ones are. And done this well, too. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm still happy. That's what I'm saying. I was disappointed. Again, it was my own expectations and that's my own problem. No, and I think, look, as your best friend, I know how much this means to you, this theme, the films. I know how much it means to you that I would expect nothing more than for you to love this so much, to really deep dive and find the things that kind of piss you off because of how important this theme is to your life, which is crazy, but I expect it. But it does. It sounds absurd. It sounds absurd when you get so close to something like this and you think of all the problems in the world, of all the things, and you can cry and get upset about something like this. But I had a collector tell me, I was with a collector a month or so ago, and she said something to me. She was a massive collector. of not JP, but another iconic brand. And she said, Greg, she goes, I come up to people and she goes, I'll ask them, especially females, especially other women. And she said, I'll say, what do you collect? Well, nothing. She's like, you don't collect even shoes? Like you don't have anything? Do you collect handbags at least? What do you have? Well, nothing. And she goes, Greg, I look at those people and they lack passion. What do you have in your life without passion? And she goes, that to me says that they're almost empty inside because they don't have that passion. They don't have something that they can be close to and something that can bring them such joy and excitement. She goes, I almost look at them like they're dead inside. And I think that resonates. Some truth there. I do. And I think most of us, nobody watching this video can disagree with that. That's exactly right. For the fact that you're watching this video because you are a pinball person or you're some kind of Jurassic Park person. Yeah. So you can't disagree with that. And, you know, when you really stop and think about that, it is. So I think that it's healthy to an extent to have these hobbies and to love something and to be attached to something because I think that it entices creativity within your brain. It gives you something to do to occupy your time. Life sucks, dude. This is my escape room. I come down here and I do just like my pinball machines I don't want to know what you're doing in that room me and baby blue that's right so as a recap these things are going to be rolling off the line very soon Stern Pinball is always creating very quickly pinball machines the pros will be released first at an MSRP of $59.99 and then premium versions will roll off. We'll go Ellie. Limited edition will roll out next. Those will be MSRP $89.99 if you can find one. I know that Flip N Out Pinball, we sold ours, sold out in the first 10 minutes. Congratulations on that too, dude. Yeah, I had to turn people away, which was sad, but it is what it is. So those may be gone, but contact some people if you want the Ellie package. And then the premium package, which is right in the middle of the Pro and the Ellie, those fall. Oh boy, I wish I wouldn't put myself on the spot here. Let's guess. I'm going to guess and then I'll correct myself. I'm going to guess the MSRP on those is $75.99. Let's see where I'm at, Greg. And that's why it should be your distributor. $75.99 is correct as the MSRP. Street prices may be a little bit lower on those. So reach out to somebody if you're interested in those. I had to sell my Guardians to get this pro. Stop fiddling. Whatever you're fiddling with, it's loud. Oh, sorry. It was right in there in the mic. I got all fidgety. When you told me the price of that premium, I started getting fidgety. You're like, oh, no. Oh, no. Now, some of the things that you also need to keep in mind, that Stern is making some really cool mods for this game. The side armor can be found probably on Stern's website. That looks really cool. very classic look. I'm going to buy it. And Greg, the shooter knob that was designed by George Gomez. 100% buy it. This is the mosquito embedded in that amber, and it lights up. The shooter knob lights up. Two LCDs are underneath of it. LEDs, yeah, yeah. It projects at it to give it the illumination. Oh. It's stellar, dude. Yeah, and other mods will pop up by certain as well. I can only imagine what the topper might look like. Yeah, and other mod makers. Anything that you were hoping for when you see a topper? If you had to want something, what would you want? I know what I would want. No, you know what? We discussed this the other day, and I had a thought. I mean, I haven't envisioned it real well. I haven't thought much about it since. I don't know if I really want a dinosaur or anything up there. Because we've got him on the play field, premium. Yeah, he has so many dinosaurs. So I said, you know, as much as I dislike Gomez's monster truck, it would still kind of be cool to do almost like a Ghostbuster-ish thing up there, maybe where you had the grill and just the front of the Jeep with all the fog lights and the headlights and stuff, and maybe those go off with maybe a honking horn or crashing sound. Or even the light bar on the top, kind of like Ghostbusters, where you've got the flashing lights. Yeah, like with a Jeep. Yeah, so other than that, man, I don't know where I would go with it, honestly. You know what I think would be cool? I don't know height wise because they keep them at a minimum height but I would like to see what I think is more iconic than any other item in the film series is the gate the opening gates and have just flickering torches on the gates I think that would look great I think proportion wise though you would quickly run out of height room versus filling that with what I'm saying is if they have it if they do a half of it the top half where it just says Jurassic Park. It has maybe two torches. Like a bust. Oh, yeah. He's got flickering flames. Now that's some sick shit. I've got your vision now. Yes. I would take that, dude. That would be pretty damn solid. Maybe the door's just cracked open like a three-dimensional. Creaking open. Light behind it shining through. That'd be cool. It would add a little bit more of that homage back. That's why I like that armor that they came out with. It's classic again. The more classic that I can add to this pin, the better. So that gate would be that very classic. I mean, it would look freaking stellar on that premium because you got the gate on the premium. Oh, son of a mother. It sounds like me and you are going to make our own topper, Greg. I'll make something. Make sweet love to that pinball machine. I'm worried about that poor T-Rex. You're going to take him out to paint him. To paint him. I think that's it from us here anything else you want to add Greg or tell these people what they need to be doing before the next video I've already talked too much what do we need to do Greg check us out on Facebook check out old Kerry Hardy on our YouTube Kerry Hardy did some shit on Pennside somebody called him creepy what are you talking about Kerry's the least creepy son of a bitch I've ever met Have you ever been to a pinball convention and actually seen some creepy people? That's right. Because Kerry is the nicest, most open guy you've ever seen. Good old Texan. Yeah, yeah. Good old boy. You hate America if you hate Kerry Hardy. That's right. Chuck Ward is really excited about this game. He's streaming for us regularly on Straight Down the Middle's Twitch stream. I'm going to try to talk Chuck into coming down and bringing this up. I don't mind streaming, but everybody's left me in the dust. My computer won't handle where it needs to be to run everything. And that's why we're asking people. We're going to be running some t-shirts. That's going to help get Greg Bone a new streaming laptop maybe. Yeah, we're hoping to do something like that. And we've got somebody. Somebody did actually, Greg, I don't know if I told you this yet. Somebody did do the $100 review. The donation for us. Yes. You told me. They are going to, they pick a game, and they did pick the game. I'm not going to unveil that yet, but I've got to tell you, it's going to be interesting. I think it's going to be fun. Oh, boy. So we're going to review that game as a $100 donation, so that's going to go towards equipment and travel and different things for Straight Down the Middle. So every piece helps. What else? Subscribe to YouTube. Share this video right here. That would be greatly appreciated. And if you really are liking what you see in Jurassic Park, go out and play it. If you want one for your home your office or anything contact me at flipping out pinball The stuff is down there to contact me and other than that. I'm looking forward to the next video I think it's gonna be a this or that that we're gonna do that we filmed prior to the release of this so we're talking What if Jurassic Park comes out kind of thing so check that out probably in a week or so and then look for unboxing Park yeah, like I said I'm going to try to get Eric down here to maybe do a good stream one night. That'd be cool. Man, there was something else I was going to go along with with our unboxing about something we do with Jurassic Park, but I can't remember what I was going to say now. No, we'll have plenty of fun stuff. Also, we've got our 100th episode coming up that we're planning for, so stay tuned to the details for that. Yes. And then the t-shirts, we're going to try to get on the Flip N Out Pinball website so people can easily just go in there, add them to their cart, and get them. And then see what sizes we have because that's kind of been our worst struggle is like people, like, oh, I want a large. I say, oh, we don't have a large. At least you can see in the cart whether you can get a large or not, whether it's available in stock. If you would like to meet and greet Greg Bone and I, we're going to be at the Chicago Expo, Pinball Expo, coming up in October. And we're trying to put a little thing together. We're to – are we going to announce that now? Are we going to still try to do that? You can talk about it. Go ahead. So we're going to try to do a little thing where you can win a prize or so from flipping out pinball. You play against the bone there. That's right. Battle the bone. Battle the bone. And if you own the bone in a game of pinball, then you can walk away with a prize from flipping out pinball. So we're going to do that. We'll set a time and date. We'll kind of post the little flyers and stuff and what we're going to do with that. I just at this point want t-shirts that said I own the bone I own the bone yeah that's what we were going to do or you know what you know what would be a good t-shirt we're thinking out loud here and I think this might be the winner I honed the bone because that's a tribute to our old saying in an old video honing the bone hone the bone that's great man I honed the bone and owned the bone Greg I wish you were right next to me buddy so I could pester you and annoy you over here but you're not you're still doing a good job at it Thank you very much. We'll see you guys next week on Straight Down the Middle, a pinball show. Dun-dun, dun-dun, dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun. Woo! You hit it off with a bumper, now you're straight down the middle again. Middle again. You had a fling with a fling shot, you're rolling out the alley dog again. I tried to cradle you with my... Hey, everybody, this is... Oh, there's my camera.
