### Signals

- **[business_signal]** Pinball Brothers' Predator pricing strategy ($15,500) appears aggressive and potentially unsustainable; Kaneda predicts poor sales trajectory (confidence: medium) — Kaneda: 'if Pinball Brothers can't sell 800 Predators, game over' and 'it's going to be another Pinball Brothers game. They will sell a few hundred and that will be that'
- **[event_signal]** Game of the Year voting mechanism creates disparity where games with larger player base win despite potential lower quality scores; Kaneda notes Evil Dead/Dune superior but Kong/Potter will win via volume (confidence: medium) — Kaneda: 'Evil Dead and Dune for game of the year... will never win game of the year because way more people will own King Kong and Potter... it's just number of votes'
- **[sentiment_shift]** Dune positioning as potential game of the year despite Kaneda's personal theme indifference; praise for layout, code simplicity, and asset utilization suggest strong community reception (confidence: medium) — Kaneda: 'I played Dune for three hours. It's amazing' and 'Maybe the best layout of the year' despite personal theme disconnect
- **[design_philosophy]** Predator fundamentally flawed by lacking Arnold Schwarzenegger character; described as equivalent to making Big Trouble in Little China without Kurt Russell (confidence: high) — Kaneda: 'You make Predator 1 without Arnold in it. It is the stupidest thing you could ever do... The moment you find out you can't have Arnold in the game, you don't make it.'
- **[design_philosophy]** Jersey Jack leadership lacks centralized creative vision (no chief creative officer); results in both strong hits (Guns N' Roses, Potter) and weak titles (Godfather, Avatar) from same design team (confidence: medium) — Kaneda: 'The problem with Jersey Jack is always this. They just don't have a chief creative officer... they've got good ideas, they've got bad ideas, and everything goes through'
- **[licensing_signal]** Predator licensing appears incomplete at time of code development; Pinball Brothers allegedly coded Arnold Schwarzenegger without finalized deal, raising legal/contractual questions (confidence: medium) — Kaneda: 'if you haven't inked the deal with Arnold, which they didn't, you don't start making code of your game with him in it. That is illegal.'
- **[market_signal]** Multimorphic production appears commercially unviable; estimated output of fewer than 500 units over 7 years raises questions about business model sustainability (confidence: low) — Kaneda speculation: 'seven years, you haven't made 500 units in seven years. I don't know what the deal is... I don't know where the money's coming from'
- **[community_signal]** Eric Meunier at Jersey Jack perceived as defensive and dismissive of community feedback; Kaneda contrasts with Brett Abbas's receptiveness at Pinball Brothers (confidence: medium) — Kaneda: 'Eric needs a little bit more humility and humbleness... he snaps back at people' vs 'Brett Abbas... excited to make the changes and listening to feedback'
- **[market_signal]** Stern's $13,000 LE pricing ($10,000 Premium) positioned as unsustainable and not supported by game quality/features relative to Jersey Jack offerings at similar price points (confidence: high) — Kaneda: 'Kong is another great $8,000 premium and $10,000 LE, and Kong is a terrible $10,000 premium and $13,000 LE. That's the problem.'
- **[product_strategy]** Predator revealed prematurely with shipping not expected until September 2024, potentially damaging buyer interest through extended wait (confidence: medium) — Kaneda: 'I don't even think you're going to see any customers unbox a Predator until September' and 'by the time that game actually starts shipping so many of you are not going to want it'
- **[product_concern]** King Kong mech exhibits widespread calibration and reliability issues affecting multiple owners; mechanical design appears under-tested before production (confidence: high) — Kaneda referencing Pinside threads: 'King Kong mech is really problematic and nobody can really figure out how to properly calibrate this masturbating gorilla and it's been a headache for all the owners'
- **[sentiment_shift]** Pinball hobby sentiment shifting negatively on pricing despite content creator enthusiasm; community expressing buyer's remorse on recent Stern LE purchases due to rapid price drops (confidence: medium) — Kaneda: 'what's fun about losing three to five grand on every Stern LE now?' and noting Kong LE will drop to $10k within months

## Transcript

The interwebs. saving. All right, I moved it inside. As you can see, it was not going to work outside. It was not going to work. Um, there was just too much lag. What's everybody doing? We're going to talk pinball. We're going to get this party started real soon. H. Let me get my glasses on. There's too much glare in here. Spooky shill, baby. I didn't win the Ultram man. Was it my Ultra Man? Cuz mine you I lost my Ultram Man deposit years ago. Smartest move I made, by the way. All right, I got GNR behind me. Oh my god. What is going on with Facebook? We're going to talk all about what's going on in pinball this week, people. We're We're always off to a rough start on Canadas Pinball Podcast. Who cares, right? Does anyone really We've always been sloppy on this show. Always been sloppy. Demon is out of storage. I'm having a good time with the demon. Um, incredible. And car. I just need to be careful. It It is um It's a rocket ship. I don't I don't even understand why people need more power than that. It's stupid. All right. Ah, Spooky. Spooky didn't just give away a new inbox machine. Didn't Stern also give away a DND? Both machines aren't good. News flash, Ultram Man and Dn D. Two machines. Nobody You kind of have to give them away, you know. The third machine you could add into the mix is uh Galactic Tank Force. I love like the for sale ads for the SIG editions that are like save 7500. Yeah, there's a reason why this thing is $7,500 off the sticker price. So disappointed on Predator. We're going to talk all about Predator Pinball Brothers. I don't know what's going on with this game. Like is Arnold is it? Is he in it? I don't think he's in it. He's not in it. Did Eric Minure Did Eric Miner throw shade at Canada? I think so. I don't get it. I don't get it. I've been very congratulatory of his game. All the work that needs to be done on the game is not design work. It's coding work. So, like I I get I I think it's funny because I was talking to Brett Abbis and he's all like excited to make the changes and he's been listening to the feedback. So, I think like I think Eric needs um a little bit more humility and humbleness. And I and I think he needs to adapt that a little bit. I think sometimes he he snaps back at people and it's like, "Bro, like, you're not Keith Elwin. You don't have the you don't have the pedigree of games and we're all just trying to help you out, man." You know what I'm saying? Like nobody nobody like is ever saying nasty stuff about Eric. Every time we've ever given Eric any feedback, it's really to help his games get better. So, you know, it's cool when you say you don't care what a personality says. Sure you do. Sure you do. You wouldn't you wouldn't bring it up if you didn't care. It's like it's like Bill Brandis is always yelling at me about Harry Potter, like how amazing it is, and he's like, "I don't care what anybody thinks. I don't care what you I don't. And like, bro, if you didn't care, why would you be here right now barking at me for like an hour about the game? When you don't care about something, you don't even pay it any attention, right? It's like I don't I don't listen to uh some pinball podcasts that are out there because I don't I don't care. You don't hear me mention them. You know, if I had a dollar for every time someone would said, "Hey, they're talking about you over there." I don't care. Who? Six Twippies. The problem with Jersey Jack is always this. They just don't have a chief creative officer. You know what I'm saying? Like they they've got good ideas, they've got bad ideas, and everything goes through. So that that's the problem is they don't have someone with real style and taste that's helping them. Like when I was watching the Dune stream last night, well, we're going to talk about it. Carl was playing the game, but a much nicer usage of the assets in Dune than currently in Harry Potter. Now, Harry Potter can get there, but they should simplify it the way Dune is. Dune deserves more attention. Maybe the best layout of the year. So, um, Lou, you think Dune's layout is better than Potter? Better than Kong, better than I don't know. The whole year we're talking Evil Dead. Uh, I don't know. I played Dune for three hours. It's amazing. Hey, look gang. I I'm not here to tell you any anyone's right or wrong. I think that um Dune is showcasing much better than Predator is going to showcase. Um I I think Dune is um here here's my thing with Dune. I I really loved watching Carl play it. I love the two screens and how they connect with each other. I love the movie assets. I love the music. I love so much about the game. I think the hardest thing for me to warm up to in Dune is still the theme. Like that's still the part that just like watching Timothy Shamallay with his knife try to act like a badass. Like I it just it doesn't work for me, you know? Like I'm just I don't have any emotional connection to the Dune movies. I saw them in IMAX. I enjoyed them kind of. I didn't think they were that great to be honest. I think I thought they were very overrated. I I thought the hype around them was overrated and I just it didn't give me goosebumps the way uh Star Wars did, the way other Star Trek movies have, even the way remember that first Star Trek movie that came back with Chris Pine. You know, I just I don't know. I just there's something about the Dune movies that I just don't connect with. And so even though this game I think is executing on such a great level, the theme integration, it doesn't make you fall in love with the theme anymore if you don't love the theme. So that's my that's my thing about Dune is like I was watching it and I I really liked what I saw and I think if you love Dune as a franchise, I think you're going to love this. I would even say if you, you know, if you enjoy pinball and just want something different, this is a nice game for a lineup. That being said, well, actually, I enjoy the simplicity of how this game comes at you way more than the Harry Potter code right now. So, I I really do think if I'm the team at Jersey Jack and you've got all these assets, like maybe hop on a Dune, hop on a Jaws, hop on a Godzilla. Just see like how other people are utilizing assets because I just again I think they need help. Predator is another case of rushing to market. They should have got their licensing finalized. so There's a Southern Fried Gaming Expo is going on right now. Correct. I think I think Eric is there. I know Brett is there. It's um it's the the thing is is I I Let's talk Predator, okay? Because Predator is is the is the newest thing happening. It is What's today's date? It is like June 21st. All right. It's June 21st. I don't even think you're going to see any customers unbox a Predator until September. You know, I I don't and I don't know why the game was revealed when it was. It's not on the line. And so I just think again by the time that game actually starts shipping so many of you are not going to want it. And I also just think they don't I don't know. I just think the the non Arnold leak with Arnold in it and they're I I listen to all the interviews of the pitball brothers. I I don't know. I just don't see much of a game there. And even with forget Arnold, I just don't see much of a game there. It's like I said on my podcast, you would you would never accept this as Predator from Jersey Jack. You would never accept this as Predator from Stern Pinball. You Why Why would you accept this as Predator from Pinball Brothers? All in with shipping and tariffs and jungle edition, this game is $15,500 without a topper. Can Can I repeat that? I don't know. Does the Jungle Edition have a topper? I don't know. Maybe it does. But this thing is $15,500 for a Pinball Brothers game. Alien is $7,899 with Ripley. So tell me what what drugs you need to take to come to the conclusion that this thing is fully loaded to your door is twice the price of alien. Daniel said it was not from them and an old code in the dirty it was not from them. So who was it from? What? What do you mean old code? H how could they start coding the game with Arnold in it and that went out to people? So, someone's trying to sabotage their launch. Gang, look it. Look, if you haven't ink the deal with Arnold, which they didn't, you don't start making code of your game with him in it. You know what I'm saying? That is illegal. Not only that, so you did it, which was illegal. You then sent that code out to somebody cuz that's not a cell phone camera. That that's like that's like footage you shot. So you actually think they did not send that to probably like someone in the like I think I heard like maybe Tommy got it at Nitro or a DRO or something. So how did it get out? How did that footage get out? They knew it was out there and they still like this whole you're going to see him from a distance BS. What What is that? What like someone's likeness is someone's likeness. There's no like you bought Arnold from 10 feet away but not close up. That is hogwash people. That's not how licensing deals work. So, I don't know what they're saying. There's no such thing as like a close-up deal and then a far away deal. You know what I'm saying? I literally do deals with talent all the time. So, whatever they're saying there, you know, what they mean is there might be quick cuts where you just see Arnold's arms or something and with a gun, but this whole far away I should do a Canadas pinball podcast with no close-ups. No close-ups of Canada. You're going to get me far away. Just see me in the distance waving. Hey guys, doing jumping jacks like a jackass. Grumpy weirdo over here from a Connecticut. Grumpy weirdo checking in. I look I This game's This game is gonna not do well. Gang gang. Pinball brothers said the video I have is old. It It doesn't matter if it's new or old, gang. They legitimately put Arnold into a coded version of the game without permission. What were they trying to do? Like a big Labowski, then get Roger Sharp to go ink the deal after the fact. I I just I just think it's funny. I just think it's funny. And now And now, how many people ordered that game seeing that Arnold get to the chopper? The whole conversation after that footage was out was, "Hey, Arnold's actually going to be in the game. Not only is he not in the game, there's no characters on the playfield. The playfield art has nobody from the film. If you walked up to this game, you would not even know it's the first movie. I'm sorry gang. I'm sorry. You would not accept this from any other manufacturer. And so, it's just going to be another Pinball Brothers game. They will sell a few hundred And that will be that. It'll be a novelty game. You'll bang on it at shows and you'll be happy you didn't spend the money on one. And And that is it. It'll never go down as a an adequate Predator pinball machine without Arnold. Gang, this is like the dumbest I can't even believe I'm like wasting time on this. You make Predator 1 without Arnold in it. It is the stupidest thing you could ever do. The moment you find out you can't have Arnold in the game, you don't make it. It's like making big trouble in Little China without Kurt Russell. Oh, you play as Kurt. You play as Jack, you know, Jack Burden. Like, no. no. Like, you don't, you know, oh, we're making Karate Kid without Ralph Machio. You know, you play as Danielson. That's how that's how the game works. Stupid. It's a copout. It doesn't work. At least in John Wick, you see John Wick. Imagine John Wick where you play as John Wick, but you're not going to see Ko Reaps. It's just stupid. Dead on Arrival. Dead on Arrival. Spooky Luke, I wish you guys would make Predator. I saw that you guys wanted to make Star Wars. I hope you guys make Star Wars one day. You guys are going to be in a driver's seat real soon. Um I I kind of feel like as all these, you know, I was telling a friend this the other day. I was like, you know, if I what I would do if I were Brett Abbis, I would buy Spooky Pinball right now. I would buy Spooky Pinball. I would I would buy Spooky Pinball. And here's what I would do. I'm going to be talking to Brett. And this is what I would do. I would buy Spooky Pinball, but let but not change anything about how Spooky does what it does other than I want you guys to keep doing the boutique themes you're doing. We want to keep Spooky its own entity. The only thing I want to give you guys is our platform. So, I still want you to make a thousand Beetlejuices. I still want you to make a thousand gremlins, whatever it's going to be, but I want you to put it on the platform we have. So, you're going to you're going to get to have our LCD, our hot rails, our everything. So, you're g we're going to take you up the next level, and that's how it's going to be. And And but we don't want to interfere with anything else, and we're going to invest in in getting you guys all that. I don't know. I don't think he would. I don't think I don't think he would. I I find it fascinating that there's been no there's been no merger or acquisition that's happened at all in pinball, right? I mean, think about like for the amount of ridiculousness it is to everyone have independent manufacturing of something that could be more like united and streamlined. The fact that everyone tries to go at it independently and no one's really got any proprietary IP advantage anywhere other than Stern. I mean, that's the thing that nobody talks about is Stern has patents on things that I hear could pretty much put almost everybody else like up SHITS's creek. Like Stern could if they wanted to shut down more of the competition if they wanted to, but I I you know they you know they they're smart to not because in the end rising tides you know what they say I don't know what the phrase is all ships whatever go up or some stupid thing like that I don't know whatever you know the phrase all ships rise with the tide I don't know but Nowadays, I think we're going to see a faster uh closing of the doors, if you will, of companies that are just not, you know, they're just not competitive. If Pinball Brothers can't sell 800 Predators, game over. Uh Multimorphic Jerry, I Yeah, I don't know. Like, he's just going to keep making these things till the cows come home. I I don't know. I I don't I don't see people unboxing portals. I I He still never discloses how many units they've made in like 12 years. I I think they've been in manufacturing now for six or seven years. I bet they haven't even made 500, right? So, seven years, you haven't made 500 500 units in seven years. I I don't know what to tell you. I don't know where the money's coming from. I I don't know. Like, you know, the PRC money is dried up because everyone's using other systems. I I don't know. I don't know what what the deal is. I I it it just it's mindboggling to me that Stern Pinball in one week in one week of one calendar year Stern Pinball makes more games than Jerry's made in a decade. I do you not want to make money? This dream um everybody let me see. Um let's talk about we're going to talk about Potter. Before I talk about Potter, I want to talk about King Kong. Stern's got a problem with this game. This This Kong mech is just just terrible. I It's not me saying this. I'm just reading the thread, you know? It's not like it's not like I'm rooting for a certain company, but I don't know. Stern never sends me t-shirts. I can't even figure out how to cancel that stupid Stern annual charge for whatever Insider Connected I signed up for. Um, the King Kong the King Kong mech is really problematic and nobody can really figure out how to properly calibrate this masturbating gorilla and and it's been a headache for all the owners. And it's really crazy to me what and I think the mistake they made with Kong is I think they tried to do too much with him and they didn't really take enough time to pressure test and quality control the mech and before they realized like it was too late. They were already making games. They've got Kong's got to like move up and down. He taps the glass. He's got to trap a ball. He's got to knock the subway over. And it's just it's finicky, right? Because again, like you look at like it's like a cheap kind of mech in a way. Like it's not how it is in pinball. All right. Is that all right? How's that? I don't know why it won't reconnect. Still frozen. Is it working now? All right. All right. Good. Now I know how to do that. So if it freezes, I will turn off the Wi-Fi and started. Something happened there. I got like bum rushed by Stern tried to pull the plug. I also just shut down some of my other stuff running. Um, you know, look, King Kong, there's some really fun code in the game, and I I I've never questioned Stern's ability to put fun code into a game. I I think the Elwin layout is really interesting. I just think in the end, Kong is another great $8,000 premium and $10,000 LE, and Kong is a terrible $10,000 premium and $13,000 LE. That's the problem. I mean, we basically I mean, look, Iceman says it every day on Pinside. Stern killed the Golden Goose. All their games are so overpriced. They don't even come close to giving you nearly as much as a Jersey Jack game. They're the quality is not there, gang. Like, look at Harry Potter next to King Kong. G, guys. It looks It's like looking at a a Ferrari next to a Corvette. I I'm sorry. And I love Corvettes, but like there's a reason why Ferrari costs twice as much as a Corvette. Imagine if Corvette tried to charge $400,000 for the new ZR1X, right? No, they know. They know. Like they're going to give you value. Like a Stern machine at $13,000 is so stupid. It's so stupid. Even a $10,000 premium is absolutely asinine. And that's and everyone just feels that way. And And you know the content creators that are just like it's fun. It's fun. Yeah. But even that's just like what I but what's fun about losing third three to5,000 on every Stern Ali now? Like what is fun about that? They never want to answer that question because you're like I get that the game is fun, but wouldn't it be much more fun to buy Foo FightersL now for like eight, right? Like wouldn't it be more fun to buy Kongle for 10 in just a few months? I I don't get it. All right. So, I still think we're going to get Jaws 50th. I think it's going to come out probably the week of July 4th. I think they're going to do some like Fourth of July weekend bonanza around it. I think it's going to be a weird thing. I think more Jawses like who's buying more James Bond games? Like I saw like James Bond on the line. I'm like what dope is buying a new box James Bond premium now? Like who? Stern. Stern knows that like half the market are just newbies who have no idea Canada exists or pinside exists. Like they know that that's half the market and they, you know, these guys are just like, "All right, I didn't even realize this pinball. James Bond, cool. I'll I'll get one for 10,000." I never I've never liked James Bond. I don't like the way it shoots. There's just I just don't like where the shots are on the game. I understand why people like it, but I just I just find the way that game shoots to be very unfulfilling. I think Sterna has way better shooters in its arsenal. It I don't think it's about getting better, gang. I I think it's one of those games where you really have to learn the shots because they're just in really awkward places. I don't like the ramps in Bond. I hate the way the ramps are and the upper left. I You guys really enjoy shooting that missile or the the Vuck Scuba Vuck on the the whole left side of that game just feels so boring to shoot. Have you have you need the new music pin from Padretti? What? Well, I think Elwin is going to do Pokemon and that's going to be Elwin's big one. I just can I ask a serious question? Why can't Stern make their machines look as nice as Jersey Jack machines? Wh Why is that so hard? Isn't it just wood and stickers and lights? Like, I don't understand why a Jersey Jack machine looks twice as expensive as a Stern machine. What's going on? Why can't Stern make the games just look more expensive? I I don't get it. I don't get it. I It It really like nothing that's going on in a Jersey Jack is like a different mineral they had in mind or some precious gem. It It's literally just shinier decals, nicer screen. like the overall package just feels more solid. Yeah, I've noticed that on these stern machines, they're just not they're just not glossy anymore. They're They're like they're looking really dull. Like it's it's like you I I was looking at King Kong next to Potter and Potter's just like just shiny. It's just it's just illuminated. It's just coming at you like a a beautiful thing. And then you look over at the Kong and it's dull and it's like rough looking and it just looks like it's been out for years and it's brand new. I love my Guns and Roses still gang. I got to be honest. Like I love Harry Potter, but like I just think GNR is still going to go down as like the best code. The best code game that Jersey Jack's done when it comes to theme integration will still be Guns and Roses. I I like that it's just easier to know what to do. It's just still a beautiful machine. I mean, I I as a work of art, stunning. And there's only 500 I know CES. Even that it's still not hard to get one. It's easy to get one. Man up the bug and give away your JTA's stream. Come on. Why would I give up? So, has anyone played the new Potter Code? cuz cuz Brett was telling me they just dropped a new code update and I'm not sure if anyone's played it. I don't know if they've fixed some of the issues. Um Potter's got a lot of work to do, you know. Look, Eric Eric had to I think Eric threw his shade on on Canada. He doesn't give an f what personalities say about him. Eric, I own your game. All right. I own one game. It's yours, Eric. Um, I've given nothing but really great constructive balance feedback on Potter. And I look forward to people getting it. You know, Potter is going to really hit at a bad time for Stern. They're They're going to sell a lot of Potters and it's good. And Jersey Jack said he's got five more bangers ready to go. Five more banger titles. The The nonbanger titles that you you might own as a Jersey Jack machine. Gang, get rid of them. Now, I I mean this when I say this. Godfather's CE will be a $7,000 pin. That'll be an $8,000 loss on that game. The LE's will be 5,000. Dialed in. Same thing. I mean, you're just going to see Avatars are going to be like brutal, too. Nobody wants this stuff, gang. Like, nobody like, you know, if they've got Beasty Boys or Top Gun or Sonic or Matrix or, you know, they got some stuff coming. That's banger. I I just hope they're bangers, though, because you never know who to believe, right? Because Jack thinks that Godfather's a banger and Avatar is a banger. So, like who made, you know, it's it's the same people making the decisions and they've made some terrible decisions. So, I don't know. Yeah. Jersey Jack, man, they they haven't had any real bangers since Guns and Roses, you know, Guns and Roses and then Potter. I mean, the two biggest themes they've ever had are Guns and Roses and Potter because Toy Story 4 is No. That's like if that's like if they only made a Chinese Democracy album pin for GNR. That like that's Toy Story 4. So, Guns and Roses and Potter and they and they will be the best selling Jersey Jack games of all time. And then third is is easily Wizard of Oz. Hobbit. Jack got screwed on Hobbit because the movies like kind of sucked. Like, you know, he inked that deal. He thought he had the next Lord of the Rings and the movies came out. There's this great story about filming of Lord of the Rings Hobbit movies and um wasn't like uh GMO Del Toro was supposed to direct them and his production company worked on the movies and the dude like quit the project like at the 11th hour like right before filming started and then Peter Jackson had to come in and direct these movies that he did not work on the pre-production of and there's there's this great story how they're like filming a battle and they don't even know like who's supposed to win the battle, what's going on. They're like uh but they couldn't they they just had to keep shooting because they were so far over scheduled in budget that they're just like I don't know just film it and we'll figure out who wins this battle in post production or editing. It just like literally they it it destroyed all of their enthusiasm for Lord of the Rings was making the Hobbit movies. It's also so stupid. The Hobbit book is tiny. So they take this tiny book and try to stretch it into another trilogy that it was never. The whole movie feels like it ends when they after the first movie. What's the latest on Back to the Future? Uh well, they were just they were just going to announce the title, not show the game. I I don't know, man. I think Barry and company are not equipped to manufacture a theme this popular. They're equipped to design a game. Big Labowski is awesome still. I just I don't know how they make it. I don't know how they make it. I mean, it's like place your order and wait five years to get it. Like that's what it's going to be like. So I don't know who amongst you is going to want to wait that long to get your Back to the Future machine. Evil Dead and Dune for game of the year. The No, it's uh Louie, right? Louie game of the year is voted on by the pinball public, right? Same thing. Twippies and you can get a hundred more first place votes and lose the weighted system. I love it. Kale and I still joke around about that. He's like, I don't even know. He's like, I don't know, bro. I don't know. You know, it's like you got almost a hundred more first place votes and you lost. He's like, I don't know. I don't know. You know, Colin Colin is now like gone back to just not caring about building relationships with the other content creators, and he's just off doing his like controversial clickbait stuff. Now, seriously, like, think about it. He's He's the only pinball content creator that had to go down that road of like, should we be talking about trans rights and pinball because of Harry Potter? Like, you went there, bro. You went there. Yeah, he went there. So, I called him out on it and then, you know, then then he's that's it. Anyway, my point being is Evil Dead and Dune will never win game of the year because way more people will own King Kong and Potter and it's just it's just number of votes. See, Pat, I don't think it's the best time ever for pinball lovers. I think it's one of the worst. I think it's one of the worst. I'll tell you what the best time for pinball lovers was. 2008. 2008 was the best time. I think the best time for pinball lovers is when you could still get a great deal on a masterpiece. The best time for pinball lovers was when you had a masterpiece and you went to sell it and you didn't ask for double the price on your Lord of the Rings LE, right? It's like you got it for six, you sold it for 657 at most. You didn't list it for 169 or best offer. Pinball now is forever tainted by a postcoavid reality. The hobby now is stupidly overpriced. We're getting primarily mediocre themes across the board. Theme integration is for the most part piss poor. And so like for this, how is this the best time ever for pinball lovers where three games can cost you $45,000? Three games. That's the best time for pinball lovers. You used to be able to get three less for 18 grand. And before the LCD screen, guess where the magic was? Under the glass. Under the glass. Now they can't even put a damn masturbating gorilla in a game without it breaking down every every week. So I I just I look I think it's the it's the most exciting time I here I'll re I'll restate this Pat. I think it's the most exciting time to observe the pinball hobby as a pinball content creator. I love this time. I love it. I mean I am not buying any of this overpriced stuff. I think it's all overpriced. I think all of it is overpriced and the data proves me right and I can drive 25 minutes to Automated Amusements and spend hours on all these games. I can go to pinball like locations. I can go to friends homes who have games. I again I don't know what grown adult has unlimited amount of time to play pinball. I don't. Do you? the the concept of having five, 10, 15 machines when the amount of time in a week you have to actually play is limited for most adults and you're going to keep buying more. To me, it it underscores a a more of a problem and a disease than it does a beneficial behavior that like you're just not satisfied with what you have. So you have to keep buying more of the same type of game. Remember like gang this is no pinball I my friend Greg Colton Rare here always says this all pinball is old. It's an old analog game. Like no great pinball machine gets old or boring to play. More of the new stuff in my honest opinion is the stuff that gets boring faster. and and now it's not just that they get boring because the themes are mediocre. It's like then you're also losing a fortune if you went in on it. New inbox. So, I love observing the hobby now more than ever because now you've got this great amalgamation of high prices, high expectations, and then high volume of launches. Now, we used to sit around and wait for like three companies to do something. Now, we've got 15 companies. Let's count how many companies right now are making new inbox pinball machines that you can buy. All right, I'm going to all of them. Homepin, and help me out if I miss one. Homepin, um, Padretti Gaming, Pinball Brothers, Dutch Pinball, Dutch Pinball X. Let's just separate them for Okay, five. Um, I'm trying to do all of Europe first. Am I missing anybody in Europe? I don't think so. All right, it says five. Stern Pinball, Jersey Jack, Jersey Jack, Spooky, CGC, Turner. That's 10. Let's keep going. There's more. There's more. Multimorphic, right? Multimorphic. Um, barrels of fun. Hexa pinball. American's dead. They just died. But American, they're still selling games. Gang, where we're at? We're at 14 right now. Isn't that road trip guy, right? That road trip dude. He's He's going to sell his bringing his game to market. 15. 15 companies. The hell's Ramos? Rams. No. Is that the name of the Is it Rams or Ramos? Stupid. It's stupid. So, you see how like You guys want me to turn on GNR? Hold on. I mean, I mean, look at that theme integration. The lights are going. It's perfect. Michael Scott Pinball. Um, but my point being this, gang. It's um it's a it's a terrible time to discover this hobby for people. And that's why when you when you see the newbies, they really like don't they don't want to hear it. Like I get it. Like you've got some money. You You discover this hobby. You know, instead of buying a $100,000 car, you can go buy four pinball machines. You know, you flip a few houses somewhere in the middle of nowhere America and you got yourself a few hundred grand. And then all of a sudden you can become a content creator and you know and and you look like a baller because you bought a bunch of pinball machines over the last five years. You know what Canada did with with those six, seven figures? He put it in the markets. My money's making money. Why would I keep throwing it into a depreciating asset? I don't have that much time to play pinball machines. And you know what's funny is I own one pinball machine. I've monetized my pinball content to make more than all of the them combined and get all the arrows in the back and still most subscribers cuz we talk about Gillian is Christ because we we because we talk about the hobby in a way that's not concerned if you will about what the manufacturers say about me. You know, look, I saw what Eric said. Like I don't care. Eric's a Eric's a dude. Like he can He should say that. Do you actually like pinball? No, Ian. I hate pinball, man. I hate it. I've just spent the last 12 years of my life making content about something I hate. Ian, you found me out, man. You nudge, baby. Nudge. Ian, I'm sorry to hear about the job, man. We're gonna We'll get you something in marketing. I'll be I'll I'll be in the boat soon enough, man. AI is going to put everybody out of business in the marketing world. It's coming soon. It's coming so much sooner than people realize. No, gang. It's like I think what everybody forgets is like there's there's like when it comes to the gradient scale of once you play enough pinball, it's like riding a bike. you kind of just you get get it like you're good enough to hop on any machine and experience what that machine has to offer. 99% of people on planet Earth get on a pinball machine and they just like they don't even understand there's like software. They don't understand there's like objectives. They're really just trying to keep the ball from draining. That's 99% of planet Earth. You like pinball as an asset. Others love pinball and don't care if they lose money. So, who wants to lose money when they don't have to? That's the part I don't get. What smart person? Here's the thing again because I've covered this hobby for 12 years, gang. The part that I literally it it makes me it makes me cringe a little bit because the people covering the hobby now that weren't around when we all got started so much longer ago, they don't understand like you can have both. You can still have all the fun and not lose the money. I know you say they don't care about losing the money, but what person do you know wants to lose like $15,000 on three Stern L purchases? Do you know anyone who's like actually like I don't care. There are some of those people, but the majority of people are not those people. And those are the superw wealthy. They're not what keeps pinball alive. The real problem, gang, is again again this it's personal for everybody. I I wouldn't own $100,000 in pinball machines unless I had a million dollars in other assets. Like that's just that's just me. I wouldn't own $100,000 in pinball machines unless I had a million or more in other assets. Now, I I would probably argue most people that have $100,000 in pinball machines have a million dollar plus in other assets. But the thing that sucks, gang, is you know, you know, you're paying for something you're not getting now. That's what sucks. Now, gang, Godzilla was 105. What What justifies a $13,000 Sternle LE? Now, isn't your home a million-doll asset? Yeah. My You can't No, it's more than a million dollar asset. This home, you can't get a home in this town. Unless it's like completely dilapitated. Like, and I'm I'm in a I'm in an affordable home in this town. There's homes in this town 20 million, 8 million, 5 million, all over the place. all over the place. But nobody in this town has $100,000 in pinball machines. Nobody. They It just They don't People don't roll like that. Most people don't roll like that. What release would you put money down on so far this year? Like any of the games that deserve Okay, so that's a good question. What What release would I put money down on this year? Uh none. none. I wouldn't order any of these games right now because I'll tell you why. All of these games right now are incomplete. They're all incomplete. Why would you buy a game now? Every single game right now, Dune, Predator, Kong, Potter, they're all incomplete. They're all six months away from being closer to being complete. So, why would I buy any of them? And by the time they complete them, I'd have the option to buy it at the end of the year for so much cheaper. Or I'll be able to see Beetlejuice, Star Wars, Tron or Remastered, right? I'll be able to see Pokemon maybe, right? Because Pokemon's also going to be January. So like, why would I buy any of this stuff right now? Tell me, there's zero FOMO on any of these games right now. I to to buy a game right now new and box because I love pinball. Why do you want to play something incomplete? I'm so tired of playing a game before it has everything in it that the company wants in it. You just said if you had a million in assets, you do you meant 10 million in assets. No. What? What gang? The reason I don't have $100,000 in pinball machines is I don't have room. And if I did have room, I wouldn't buy $100,000 in pinball machines. I just would not. I don't think anybody, and I mean this, I don't think anybody needs more than like three great machines that all complement each other. I've always felt this way, whether it's pinball or watches or cars or bottles of effing. Look, and I get it. The more money you have, the more space you might have, the more disposable income you might have. And it means nothing to some of these gentlemen. Nothing. But this is just me personally. There's only so much time in a day. So, like I get that you could have 15 cars or 10 cars. You can really only take out one at a time, you know? So, you might have one car that's a muscle car, one car that's like in a, you know, like a lightweight roadster, and one car that's like a sedan or an estate that you're not going to have any more fun than that in the automotive space. a little lightweight six-speed manual car, a muscle car, and then a sports car or like a sedan. I What else are you going to have? Look, I will say this though, too, and you guys know this. Everybody knows this. Playing on location is not the same as playing at home. It's not. It's like trying to have sex with your wife in a public bathroom. It is. It still it still can work. It still can work and you can still get somewhat of the satisfaction, but it's much more enjoyable to have sex at home in your bed. The same way it's a lot more enjoyable to play pinball at home when you want to play it without distractions, without anything else going on around you. It's just the way it is. It's It's you can focus on it. How do you feel about pinball machines sitting next to a window? Think it's great, Mike. It's not blocking the window. It's caddyy cornered. But yes, thank you for that. We haven't heard that joke before. I mean, there's literally dudes with like a row of games in front of windows. That's fine. Orbeez arcade is fine, but location play is way more rad. I'm on fire, gang. I want to answer all your questions. Fire anything at me. Ask me anything. I don't care whether it's pinball related or not. Ask me anything. I I like getting underneath it all. Like, let's just let's just hit directly at life right now. Not liking location play is the most spectrum thing about you that doesn't even like Let me Ian, I like playing at automated. I'll tell you why I stopped playing like League nights because it was just a stupid waste of time after like I literally people would spend three hours to win a translite. I'm also in a different stage in life, gang. Like again, I've got a one and a four-year-old. Why would why would I if I get any time off? Why would I choose to go stand in front of a pinball machine with my head down instead of being out there in the world like having conversation like building relationships like raising a glass of margarita like sitting on a boat with lobster rolls? Like why would I? Again, it's the stage I'm at. Many of you your kids are older. You had kids earlier. I get it. But you gota you got to put yourself in my flipflops. I I'm I'm like not that's not to me like to me what I always hated to see Ian I'll answer this direct to me the saddest thing I ever see is when people travel to another culture another city and instead of like going to experience what's in Paris or New York or San Francisco they go try to find an arcade and sit there and play the same damn pinball machines they can play anywhere you're you're going to you're going to take the the tiny amount of time you have in life and get to a new place in the world and just stare down at the same damn pinball machine that's available where you come from. You You're going to seek out the pinball in Paris, in Tokyo, in in uh in Germany, you know, in Brazil. Like Like what is what? You need more friends to enjoy location play. I got friends. None of them want to play pinball. None of them. I don't have a single friend that's like, "Hey man, let's go play some pinball." I retired young and have plenty of investments. I would never personally buy an LE. Yeah, Pat. Because you're smart. You're smart. Are you having fun, Ian? Are you having fun? Are you going to have you You're having some fun. This is fun. This is fun. You know what would be more fun? When you're playing on location, Canada just rocks up with like a sledgehammer and just takes out the entire backbox. Now tell me that wouldn't be fun. Now show me how to get to wizard mode, mofos. What am I on today? I don't know. I got the vodka in the freezer, but I'm not even on it yet. What else we got here? But what you like the dollar has nothing to do with it. You know, it's something rich people say. I love it. Gino, you must be rich. I love you know rich people always got the advice about money. Rich people are like, "Ah, it's T." You know, you can't tell like you're rich. It's cuz you're rich. Only rich people say stupid like Captain Obvious stuff about money. That's it. And you like like you're like, "Come on, man. Come on, man. Only rich people are into pinball for the most part. If you think collect buy pinball machines, I I don't mean into pinball. Only rich people like really buy pinball machines. How can you not? How can you buy these expensive things if you're not somewhat rich? How? Most people in this country are struggling to pay a bill. They're not they're not following Harry Potter CE launch. Canada is the Debbie Down. What? What's Debbie Downer about this gang? Gang BW. It's the best way to have pinball fun is buy a used game with broken plastics Lord of the Rings baby for like six grand and just bang on it. Bang on it. Don't Don't look at the shooter lane wear. Just bang on that game and have fun. The guy having the most fun in pinball has a house full of stern pros and doesn't care. He doesn't care. He's not on pin side. He's not like here right now. He's just waking up having breakfast beer, rolling off the couch, and throwing some games on freaking Iron Man. Man, you want to have fun in pinball? You want to have fun in pinball? Go play Iron Man. You know what game you don't hear people talk about a lot? Iron Man. And I'll tell you right now, Iron Man is faster than Harry Potter. It's faster than Elton John. It's damn fun. And you could go pick up an Iron Man for like hardly anything. And you'd have more kinetic pinball fun on Iron Man than you ever will on a $15,000 Harry Potter. You're not allowed to say that, Canad. You can't make sense like that. You're the Debbie Downer. You're not supporting every new launch. You're not supporting everything you got. Iron Man is boring. No, it's not. Iron Man is not boring. Who coded Iron Man? Who coded it? Does anyone know? Look, Look, look. Yeah, thank you, Anthony. I was waiting for someone to realize that Lyman Sheets coated Iron Man. I would, you know, I'm just I'm just going to say this. You want to build the right pinball collection, you just buy every game Limeman Sheets made. Any game that man touched just so much better than everybody else when it comes to how to like make a game fun. He could take anything and make it work. He could take the worst layout, keep you coming back for more, right? Batman 66, not the best layout, but man, Batman 66 has better mechs in it than anything in Potter, anything in Predator, anything in King Kong. Debbie Downer, Grumpy Weirdo here. You guys are hanging out here. It's good. It's good. No, it's good to get it out. It's good to talk like this. Nobody else even talks like this. Like Like the these guys weren't around when Iron Man came out, you know? I I I'm going to share a story. Um I did this. You guys say I never Let me Let me share something with you right now. Let me let me find this. Um they're no longer in business, but like this was one of the most This is one of the first things I did at my when I went to Weber. This This was my story. Uh share screen. Oh, don't make no thanks. Hold on. So, there was a weird rule in certain cities. Remember when they banned pinball in the 60s and Sharp got it lifted, but not everywhere. So, in certain cities, there was still a ban on pinball. And so RadioShack at the time was my client, you know, and they sell tech devices and and so when the 80year-old ban on pinball was getting lifted, it was then legal to play pinball in Oakland, um we put an Iron Man pinball machine in Radio Shack and whoever came in and set the high score won the machine. That was it. Super simple, so much fun. It looks so cool in store. Uh, look, even like the Iron Man. I mean, look, this is a drag and drop stern days, but like it was a Canad special when a Canad, you know, imagine what I would do if I was at the the CMO of one of these pinball companies. I' You'd be seeing pinball out in the world in way better ways than just mailing mailing some PC dude a a DND for free. Like there's no creativity there whatsoever. That's not the kind of story that's going to travel. You're gonna get a 100,000 people to see that who don't give a [ __ ] Like that's called reach and no impact. Well, that's the thing. It's like again I think because a lot of these newbies in the pinball content space weren't around then. They want to feel the excitement we did when those games came out and they have you know and their their excitement is valid. Like they they only know what they know. They don't know what they don't know. So you know they all got excited during co this is great $15,000 for a game. This is great $13,000. This is great. A $2,000 Foo Fighter topper. They literally like didn't they don't have the context to understand that they're getting ripped off because to them they're not getting ripped off because to them it's all they know. You know, look, I I put my foot down this week and then I got to go soon, gang. And And I don't look, there's just principles of like what things should cost. And we've got this beautiful ice cream shop in Rowan. Brandon's 101. I moved in a year ago. A year ago, one scoop of ice cream was 450. expensive, right? Two scoops was like 550. So, it's like no-brainer. I'm going to get the two scoops. A lot more than you want to spend. And some of these teenage girls, they have scoop in. Don't understand like what a scoop should be. Like, it should be a good scoop. Okay. But I love the place. Love going there. Bring Killian in. You know, we have good time. Like, I went in I went in the other day, like two days ago, and I just just two scoops. was going to get two scoops. They're like, "That'll be $7." What? Like there it wasn't even like an increment. It just it now all of two scoops are seven. One scoop is 550, two is seven, and three is eight for three scoops of ice cream. And I haven't raised Canad's pinball podcast prices in five years. Since I started taking money, I haven't raised it a penny. And that's and I was like, I'm not going back now. Like, you know what I'm saying? I I have the money. I'd ra but I'd rather spend $18 on a margarita than $8 on three scoops of ice cream. I just I'm not doing it. And that's the problem with some of the modern world nowadays is like you're just you got to look everyone's got what their threshold is to pay for certain things. Mine just happens to be two scoops of ice cream shouldn't be anything more than like six bucks. Gino, Gino, here's the thing, Gino, Gino, you're you're not wrong, but they're not buying as much as they used to. And Gino, you're in Europe, right? and you're you're in Europe and you don't see like the impact. Come on. People are not buying as much as they used to in Europe. I speak to European distributors all the time, brother. It It's just Come on. I mean, I know what you're I know. Like you It's It's not great. Yeah, but Gino, that's the thing, man. It's like It's cool. It's like again it's just but Gino it doesn't matter if you're rich or poor. Like ice cream shouldn't be $7. It doesn't matter if you're rich or poor. A Stern Ali should never be 13. And this is the thing Gino is like if to you it doesn't matter. It still doesn't change the principle of how much this particular thing should cost. Back in my day, I pay $2 for Canada. I look again, a lot of people don't care, but I think there's a a reckoning coming. I think there's a reckoning coming, I think, in the world. I think for a lot of people personally and I think there's um there's a there's there's going to be a real reality check happening and you just got to prep for that rainy day, man, because it's just been too good for too long and too few people have made all the money and it's not trickling down like it used to. It's not it's not trickling down like it used to. I mean back in the day like you worked in corporate America like money trickled down like the CEO made a lot but everybody else like who with the company nah it's not that case anymore it's not that case anymore you don't have to um you you don't have to um we get it bro we get it we're happy you're successful. We're happy you came out of like, you know, look, you got to you got to take risks in life. You're never going to you're never going to be successful without taking a risk. Um, and everything's hard work. Like, what you know what I'm saying? Everything's hard work. It It's hard to wake up and be unsuccessful just as much as it's it takes a lot of hard work to become successful. Nothing is easy. Nothing is easy. I always tell this to people like if you want a job where you're just coasting that it's not going to be easy because you're going to go home and feel unproductive and that's hard to wake up every day feeling unproductive. If you inherit money and didn't work for any of it, you're going to feel like lazy and insignificant and that's hard. feeling like inadequate like it just Oh go you need a podcast brother. The Gino the Gino Bezy Bosy the Gino Bosy Pinball podcast about money and life. Um I I mean like I I think in today's market Potter 10K is a real enticing game, right? It's like it's the lot. It's cheaper than Predator. It's cheaper than Dune. It's cheaper than Multimorphic. It's cheaper than, you know, a lot of Sterns. It's the same price as a Stern Premium. Way more game in it. Um, yeah, it's um, you know, it's crazy. If they just put the Rad Cows on that, they would they would just sell so many of them. Well, GNR is one of the nicest looking pins. the Gino Yolo show. so I yeah, I think Potter at 10K is is a genius time for Jersey Jack to release that game at that price. I'm happy to do a show with Gino anytime. Um, gang, don't argue amongst yourselves. Like, it's Thank you for taking some Saturday time out to hang out with Canada. This has been a fun show. It's been a fun show. I like I hope you guys understand, too, that I I'm I'm very um I'm very much like all of you. I'm a I'm a human with faults with who has fears and optimism colliding every week. I have two young boys, a beautiful wife, a house I love, and a town I love. Uh, and I, you know, I struggle with what the next 10 years might look like. The thing I'm confident in is in my own abilities. and and I do feel confident in my abilities that I I will make it work because in the end you are your greatest asset and you should invest in yourself and making sure you realize that like I think what is difficult about the modern world for a lot of people myself included is so much of our value is is um affirmed by others like if they see the value in you, they'll give you that salary. And if they feel like they're getting their, you know, what they need from you, then you have a job. And And what's lost a lot in the modern world is stuff like loyalty and trust and human relationships. And I I that's the part that keeps me up at night is it doesn't matter because in the end like these big companies are just consolidating all the time and everyone's just a a name on an Excel sheet. So it doesn't matter if that woman over there just gave birth to a beautiful baby, they will cut you loose the next day. And that's that's sad. Like I think we've we've put corporate profits in greed. You know, think about it. Like how can one man have $300 billion dollar and lay off 60,000 people? My wife was one of them. And Mark Zuckerberg, not only did he fire my wife, he then because of a mistake he made around the metaverse. And then he fires my wife and 60,000 other people who needed an income. And then the company's stock skyrockets and becomes the highest it's ever been. Well, so like and so what? You go from having 250 billion to 350 billion while you disrupted the lives of 60,000 people who believed in you. I mean that sucks. Why? Why? Well, imagine if he had just 200 billion and everybody could still be a part of the organization and feel like they're on the team. No, I know. But I'm just saying this is the problem with modern capitalism these days is the the few at the top are taking everything and then some and the rest of us are just like waiting for the scraps. And the the thing is about the modern world is, you know, now it's like a billionaire's world, right? It is. It's a billionaire's world, not a millionaire's world. And so it's like you you think you're like you finally get to where you think is the top of some mountain and you realize like that's just the new molehill and it's 2025 and you still got to keep working and retirement is like never happening for most. It's sad. It's sad. So most people can't feel good and the American, you know, middle class American dream has been like just destroyed and some dude can just buy like Dogecoin like four years ago and now have millions and added nothing to society and just all stood by and watched that happen, right? 1 million is not poverty. You guys are like out of control. Like you guys understand like the the medium income in the world is is like $7,500 annually. Anyway, but you know, I'm happy I get to hang with all you mostly successful dudes and dudetss. Um, everybody look, have a good Saturday. Frank, give me a call, brother. Let's go do some Let's get into some trouble. Um, everybody, if you're not a member of Canad Spinball Podcast, you know, you should be. Again, I didn't raise prices. If you join the show, though, join on the internet, not on your iPhone, because Apple will charge you more. I'm going to give you a little and I I can't control it because that's what Apple does is they they think they deserve everything that happens on their phones. Frank, come on. Like, let's go golf today. I would have We should have hit the links today. Can we go later today? Can we do a late tea time? I'll go shirtless. I need to get ripped. All right, everybody. Have a great day and we'll we'll chat soon. Don't buy any of these new games. I mean, don't buy them yet. Wait. Trust me. In six months, if you listen to Canada, you will get any game you want right now for much less money. And the games will be finally coded. Like that is it so much to just wait for a game to be complete. It's just I don't that's that's it. It's that simple. Peace out.
