## Analysis

First impressions of Stern's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Pro) pinball, praised for cohesive art direction by Jeremy Packer, smooth playfield design by John Borg, crisp animations by Josh Clay, and effective code work by Dwight Sullivan. Hosts struggle to identify significant flaws, noting the game's controllability, quality ramp design, and vibrant visual package as standout strengths.

### Key Claims

Let's kick this shit. all right greg let's give these people our first impressions we just got done playing a crap load of teenage mutant ninja turtles by stern pinball are you ready to take off these mask oh maybe geez hmm I feel like Daniel son oh man all right Ninja Turtles by Stern Pinball we just unboxed it we just played it if you haven't seen that go check out that unboxing video speaking of how are you feeling buddy you took out that pizza I'm a little quieter than normal Yeah. Tum-tum hurting a little bit? A little bit. Well, if you wouldn't have drank seven beers prior to. It sort of ruined my entire evening. It's the only person I know that can shove down a large pizza and still crack open a beer afterwards. Nicely done. It helped wash it down. Did it really? Those were 16 ounces. That little. Were they? Yeah. Oh, my God. Oh, wow. So, we got to play a bunch of Ninja Turtles. We get to tell these people our first impressions on the game itself. We know that it was designed by John Borg. Yes. man he did it again jerry thompson did sound he did it again amazing our boy uh dwight sullivan on code and his team over there and then we got mo zombie yeti oh a little Jeremy Packer (Zombie Yeti) yeti literally if you had to assemble a pinball team yeah i mean what are you gonna do this would be the team that i would assemble we're missing one player and that one player is little Jay Joshua Clay, little Joshua Clay on animation. This is his first lead on animation. And what did you tell me whenever we were playing? You said you know, I kind of like those animations. The animations were solid. That's one of the things that video sometimes, you know, you always say like video doesn't do it justice video. It truly does not in this. They're crisp. They're well done. They fit the game. They remind you of the original like a three dimensional cartoon. But you know, it's all cohesive. I was playing Deadpool. Tones are very similar throughout the animation. Yes, and that's what is odd is when you go into Megalodon and all that shit happens, it's cohesive with the surroundings of the artwork, and it just fits. And that's what this does, but even probably better. We'll get to that. Let's start with a review. Let's start with art. That was the thing that jumped out to me the most. I know I was unboxing it quickly, but there was a couple times I had to stop because I was like, I know I'm rushing through, but damn, that is pretty. This had the direct opposite reaction on me as what Stranger Things' back glass did. This was very vibrant, very rich. What does... I still think the Pro's my favorite. What does Zombie Yeti do that's different from other... Because it's all manufactured by Stern. Somebody reach out. Jeremy, write me privately. I'll keep it a secret. I want to know what you do that's different with your back glasses and your trans lights. $50 says he does not want to do that. No, he never will. No, no. But do you not agree that his are more vibrant? There's something about the print of them. Yes. Maybe it's less light behind. I don't know what it is. I cannot pinpoint it, but they look. It's almost like a vignette effect, and it really, I don't know. It's not washed out. No, no. It looks like a trans. It's a. It's a trans light. Yes, but it looks like. Like a back glass. A back glass. Yeah. The colors are very rich. Yes. Very rich. And there's not a predominant color in this. You would think turtles, you're going to get green. Yeah. You don't get that at all. But it's not oversaturated in one particular color or scheme. When we look at the Playfield art, that's nice too. I like the art package of the Pro the best, I think, even out of the LE. Now, that might be different once we unbox an LE and I see that mirrored bag glass. But, like, the cabinet art, curtains. He did it again. Is he not the king of pinball art? I think so. He is. I do. He just is. I have to give it to him. Just is. It's fact at this point. Something special. There's a lot of good people. Yes. But there's one great. Yes. That's him. That's him. So that's that. What about the layout and design? John Borg, I feel like you can feel his experience, Greg. 20, 30 years in the business, you can feel his experience in these damn pinball machines. Say what you want about the Munsters. That game shot like a dream. Yes. This game. I actually dreaded doing this video. Yeah, because we're going to get shit on. Yeah. We're going to get shit on. It's just a really good game. And, like, how do you not say that it's a really good game? Well, I just sit here and I laugh because it's just really good. I know. And I'm like, somebody wants us to say some shit about it, but it's not. Like you said, like Borg's, over the years, he's dialed in his shots. Like this is one of the smoothest shooting freaking pins there is. Here's something we can say negative about John Borg. Sometimes I feel like John Borg designs, especially that two-flipper layout, is very same feeling. Yeah. Guardians, Metallica. They don't feel the same, but they feel the same. That doesn make sense You know what I mean right But this once we give him that third flipper and it feels more like a Tron that melded and hybrid with a Guardians Guardians, 100%. Kind of. Because you get that outlaying kind of feel of Guardians. Yeah. The shots are not as tight as Guardians. No, it's a smooth shooter. It's a smooth shooter, but they're still, like, you get bricks. I can't hit that side ring. No, that's what I'm saying. But the orbit. But the orbit you can hit like butter. you would think the orbit would be harder than that there's some people that need to take a cue from john borg's inner orbit because it is repeatable too fantastic man man like it's gliding around there yeah so i mean negative maybe maybe that i don't the speed of that ball coming off of that right ramp when it comes around it it's it you don't expect it to do because it's It's clear plastics. It's one ramp on top of another ramp. So your third flipper ramp, you think that your right ramp is the third flipper ramp. So you expect it to come up, loop around, and return to your right flipper. But it does not. It feeds that upper. Yes, towards the back. And it's a freaking bullet. I think it's unwise. It took me a couple games to even say, I'm going to try to hit it because it's so fast. You're just like, I'm going to let it come down to my left flipper. I'm not attempting that third flipper. There's no way. Like, where did it come from? Oh, there it is. I don't know. I'm trying to think of something negative here. Maybe here's what I would if I had to push for a negative. John Borg always on the left out lane. It's the thing that you hate about John Borg games. He's got that little M wire, and it's just that. It hits, and it bounces into the left out lane. They fixed that. John Borg put a post on top of that with a rubber. This game shoots a lot easier than I thought it would. a lot easier than I thought it would. It feels more like the bold times of a Deadpool, of a Metallica. Yeah. Right? It's not a brutal game. It doesn't feel like a brutal game. But it's controllable like Deadpool, too. Very controllable. Yes. I mean, you can basically do any flipper skill that you've ever learned on that game, which is good. I always like that because I'm not a fantastic player, but I'm good enough that I like to try to show off. I would challenge anybody that steps up to TMNT and name me one, not two, three, four, five. A lot of games have five clunky shots. They have four clunky shots. Name me one clunky shot in this game, Greg. Oh, that's a good point. The orbits are butter. They don't hit the top of the slings. No. You don't get big jumps off of those ramps or anything where you're hitting ball deflectors, where you're hitting anything. it's just if you're thudding you're missing but it's not because i thought guardians was smooth too those ramps were guardians is a tougher shooter than this yes but i'm saying when you hit the shot oh yeah it's smooth it's like a plastic ramp yeah yeah and that's the way this is is it just i love the ramps on this game i love the ramps on this game there's three ramps in it and i love each and every one of them they feel so damn good god i love them you can combo man i can't think i'm like you i can't think of anything we're gonna like that center shot like you can bounce it off of that target and go in that center that's amazing you know like a freaking bank that a 30 degree angle some people uh they said negative was the long stand-up targets rather than single stand-up targets yeah yeah now i would like that because i think that it would add that extra little level of uh uh challenge okay yeah you know i think like just I don't know the rules enough yet to know if, you know, because April would hurry up. I do like the shot behind the flipper. The training, and then a post comes up. Yes. Feels good. You know Munsters. Oh, bud. You're so late. Beer and pizza. Put me to sleep. Munsters. I didn't mind the long stand-up targets on Munsters. Did you not? Not really. They were okay. They weren't as bad as what I thought they were going to be. Art-wise, they look better. yeah you know how i am i watcher a viewer i i just want drop target drop targets and i'm like everybody when monsters came out i don't want to see it be made like a habit yes i don't want it on like every board game or any other game really like what about um let's talk about animation now animation you really like animations man you really like animation they're solid they're very true they're very cohesive um for what like i always feel like for the longest time like stern had like it felt like like six different animators working on their animations or something because it was just like a mix of styles i i can definitely see that in things it just didn't fit you know what i'm saying it's just random yeah and this is like for once they're very good animations they're very vibrant and they're very cohesive they are everything is cohesive it looks like one person yeah yeah it's yeah it's beautiful like it is it could be the best stern animations to date. They might be They might be a little better than JP. Just because JP's got a few rough ones in there. What you're seeing right now is fantastic. The Visitor Center everything is great. T-Rex is great. There's some. I will take a Deadpool animation over Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I really like Deadpool. Those grew on me a lot. 16-bit. I tell you what, that would be the negative for me. I would rather see, and people know if they listen to the podcast, I'd like to see more 16-bit maybe or the original 2D animations of the Turtles. Now, I heard you say that prior to this. I know it's ludicrous. I know it's crazy. You can't make that happen. You can put Zombie Yeti artwork two into the anime I get it But that what I want That what I want and I want the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon in there I feel like I agreed with you until I saw it Okay. And now I don't think I can because I think the old cartoon is just going to feel dead. It's going to feel washed out with as great and as vibrant as his art is. I think it would waste it. I think it would waste it. I like the animations. I've never had an intellectual property that I didn't prefer the actual original. What's this young man's name that did the animations? Joshua Joshua Clay. You're going to hear a lot of Joshua Joshua Clay. I promise you that. Oh, I know that name. He's been doing a lot of work for Stern over the last handful of times. Well, Josh, you may be my new favorite. Uh-oh. Poor Jerry Thompson and music. No, no. Oh, ain't nobody taking Jerry's place. Hold on one damn minute now. Ain't nobody taking Jerry Thompson's place. Oh, I love Jerry. But I'm just telling you, Josh. Cheer beer. You did a good job, bud. I like Jay Joshua Clay. You did a good job. You did a good job. Let's talk about music. Sound. The sound package. The call-up. The call-outs are awesome. The call-outs are a lot better than what I thought. I gave that an A already. Honestly, the song felt better in person. Even the background music. Yeah, I was like, yeah, it's not the original like when you heard it on the show. Is there anything you don't like about it? We've got to find some negatives. These people hate when we just talk about the positives. The spinner sound sounds awesome. The music sounds great. This is probably not a B when we go to rating. I don't think it's going to be a B, sadly. What I like about this pin so far that we've been playing, it's hard to find one category that falls short. Usually we find a game where we're like, I don't like the code, I don't like the way it shoots, but the art's awesome, and vice versa, but it's hard to find a downside to this game. It might not be for everybody just because of the speed factor, but it's not brutal. It's so controllable. It's not like Stranger Things. Stranger Things was fast, but Stranger Things would eat you alive. That's fancy and brutal. This doesn't do that. This has the speed of Stranger Things. I think I still might take that left rubber off. The left outpost rubber. I think I'm going to take that off. Like you said, I cannot stand that about board games. It pisses me off. I think it's so unfair. But the post might be easier than that. But this, that's what I was going to say. This I might agree with you. I'm curious by the time that we get enough games on here to go to review of where we're at with that. The music is awesome. Jerry Thompson, give the guy a raise. That guy is killer. And do you know what? I don't know if there's a big crew in the music and sound department. It might just be like, Jerry, Jerry's just doing it all. He works with the coders, of course. There was so much going on, Greg, that code, first impression-wise, is the last thing we want to pay attention to. Yeah, because it's so hard to get a grasp, especially with everything going on. We were opening up all kinds of stuff. We knew the training mode. We knew how to get into training mode. There's different multi-balls. Yes. There's different skill shots. I do like the tapping. That worked this time. I love it. Oh, yeah. Because you hear it. It's like, tap as fast as you can. You're like, I like that. It's actually better. You did better on this, Dwight, than what you did with TIE Fighter. Like, this is a lot more satisfying than TIE Fighter. I love TIE Fighter. I learned to love it. Oh, I love it. I hated it at first. No, I loved TIE Fighter. Maybe TIE Fighter eased me into this. TIE Fighter visually is probably better. Sound-wise, this is better than TIE Fighter. Not much to TIE Fighter, though. It's just TIE Fighter's a pop-up. Yeah, but there's a... There's really... What's this? Yeah. See what I'm saying? Visually, TIE Fighters were a little better. Sound-wise, this is better. And Light Show. Oh, the code. It dims down. No, I'm just talking... Even for the... All of it. The... It goes like red. There's a lot of moods in this. Yeah. We know Dwight Sullivan codes those moods. Yes, he does. He does a lot of the moods. He did that in Star Wars. And that's what grabbed me when you had lightsaber duel. Yeah. Everything, yes. Like Dwight is still. And Greg, this is a pro that you get that multi-bulb approach. Yes. In your GI, you get red, you get green, you get white. So he can change the patterns throughout the entire play field. Like that one mode you started, I think it was a training mode. If you hit the correct shot, the whole play field lights up green. And if you hit the wrong shot, it all lights up red. I still like that about Munsters when you go into the green for Herman and everything. Like, yeah. You know, I am so happy for Dwight because I think that this is like that bounce back from Munsters. Yeah. Of what it was. Like, I know that that had to have devastated him. And this, I think, is a full-blown comeback. Like, look what I'm made of. We can't judge it yet. We can't fully judge it. Okay. Like you said, code is something that takes a little more time. We were just flipping and hitting the flashing lights. Yes, and it was a blast. I've listened to enough podcasts to kind of know a couple of the things. So I picked up on the training modes. Those were really cool. I picked up on adding the toppings. I really liked the foot clanging combo. Yes. That was cool because the lighting effects were like, hit the left ramp. You've got to do one, two, three, and you try to get that combo in a quick amount of time. Why is lighting so underutilized in the game? pinball. Not with Dwight. No, but that's what I saying He wakes you up to it To me if you want something to trigger my senses and get my freaking neurons firing like it gonna be the it gonna be the light show that what gonna engage me and trigger me as much as i said because it just like what she said like with the tapping like buy a few games in automatically no shit some of the criticisms for dwight sullivan can be the flash intensity like a damn seger data ec's always flashing now on this so far i didn't i I didn't catch any of it. But we were in a well-lit room. Maybe that was it. I don't know. I didn't catch any of it. Because you take something like Boba Fett, Boba Fett's like seizure. Which I love. I think using lighting as a weapon, as a coder, is so smart. I don't mind Boba Fett as bad. I don't mind a lot of that as bad as what I thought it would. You know how that I'm weird about shit like that. Even Ghostbusters. I love it. Yeah. The only game that's really pissed me off is Wonka. With that. When it goes into that damn mode that I hate. I can't stand it. I can't see the freaking ball. I'm just pissed. I love that. You see the bomb. Wonkatonia. I love the sound of it. You son of a bitch. Penn State, isn't it? God, I know. I need them put in there. I got to say, too. So, yeah, I think Dwight's back. Yeah, I do, too. He went way up here for Star Wars, and then he went way down here for Munsters when it comes to complexity. Yeah. And then he... Yeah. And you and I love Dwight Gaines, so I think we're going to be happy. I think that this could be, just because it's a good theme, there's weird people shitting on the theme. On this theme? Yes. Have you seen some of those comments? We haven't talked about it. Let's talk about Turtles' theme. It's the weirdest thing to me. If you're going to do a Ninja Turtles, they nailed it. Yes. That's the Turtles you do. Yes. Jeremy Packer (Zombie Yeti) with the artwork, I've said it before, you guys might have heard me, he did the best work on Turtles. The best representation of Turtles, even better than the original artists themselves in my opinion on certain points of this game one being that pearl back glass greg yeah that is turtles perfection the cabinet uh in in real life is perfection too oh it really is it and jeremy don't think i didn't see what you did on the front of that cabinet with the the yellow streets that pulls really like an 80s vibe but it's part of the building i i caught turtles are something that if you grew up in the 80s or the 90s honestly they're still they're still making us what i was gonna say honestly they they they have it's it's a weird thing that has continued like that they've kept alive by by reinventing it throughout the years to grab a newer fresher audience because i mean who the hell doesn't like karate and ninjas and then we we gotta we gotta give a shout out turtles to our buddy Marc Silk he did like seven characters in this game Marc Silk yeah that's how good he is you didn't notice Marc Silk does like splinter he does shredder he does he does like a casey jones he does a lot yeah you sneaky son i know he didn't even tell us like my god that we were friends i know whatever no more zoom meetings hey you know what though that that is something that i revel in like i love that like when that that somebody like that who is a supreme hobbyist gets to take in their day job and be able to put it into a pinball machine yeah i'm glad that stern gave him that opportunity to do that such That sort of stuff makes me so happy, man. I still like Krang, man. Love Krang. I can't wait to open up my LE. I'm going to see a little bop in Krang. Dude, the Krang animations are sick, too. They're good. They're good. Did you see the artwork that Jeremy did on the cabinet of Krang? No, I didn't pay much attention to that. Oh, my God. He said one of his inspirations when he was creating Krang, he wanted to be true to the original, but he said Jack Black. He took the face of a Jack Black and like that menacing, still comedic. It's Krang. I can see that. Is there anything we're missing, man? I want to go play it again. That's what we need. I want to go play it. So, sorry, guys. We're going to cut it short. Absolutely. And on our prior video, you guys can win that banner. Where's that at? If you haven't already. There you go. Win this banner. What do they got to do to win the banner, Greg? Courtesy of flipping out pinball? You have got to like us. They already like us. Except for you. You've got to subscribe to us. I see you on there. YouTube and then share our video on Facebook. Our first video. Our first video. The unboxing video, not this video. Hey, Greg, you want to see the list of people that I get under their skin on pin side? That's not long enough. Like Santa Claus. All right, guys. See you later. Ha, ha. I'll try to cradle you with my flipper. Go to the club, see if I can get some dollars. Got my booby tassels. Get them dollars. There's probably people into that weird shit. I like that. Like Ninja Turtle porn. I'll watch it. Do you think people are into Ninja Turtle porn? I've watched Scooby-Doo porn. Look at the tail on that one. Scooby-Doo porn? I look like a Ninja Turtle. You like Daphne? I look like a Ninja Turtle. Velma. You're a Velma. Ninja Turtle fucks Splinter. Double Velma. Double Velma. What'd you say? I look sort of like a Ninja Turtle that fucks Splinter. You look like a Michael Bay Ninja Turtle. Oh my God, it does! You look like a jacked up CGI Ninja Turtle. They're the worlds. I'm kind of digging this. I wonder if Nicole will like this. I feel like I'm Zorro. Antonio Valdes. You do look more like Zorro. I will rescue you. I look like Michael Bay in Ninja Turtle.
