That's it, man. Game over, man. Game over. I'm gonna need someone to help me I'm gonna need somebody's help Son of a bitch, give me a drink One more night, I just can't be me Son of a bitch, if I drink it clean I'm gonna drink my life away Welcome to the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast, episode 65. The sloppiest show on the internet and the only show in Ian's basement. What you drinking today, buddy? There's many shows down here, buddy. Oh yeah, what's the other one? I do three shows a night. Usually the other two are not suitable for our general viewing audience. Are these the shows when you're home alone with no pants on? The one and only, buddy. All right, so what are we drinking, Drew? All right, we're drinking something new today, guys. Oh, my God, I spilt it all over my lap because there's not a top on this. Did you just do that? I'm going to smell terrible. I watched him. He's trying to read the front of the bottle, and he tips it literally at a 90-degree angle. I'm going to get the cork. Hold on. There was no cork. Damn cork. And this was a fresh bottle of booze. Got a wet knee today. We could not have scripted that better. This is bullshit, Drew. So, Ian, not what you're drinking, what you got in your pants? I'll tell you what I smell like in a second. Here, let me get my headset back on. So we're going to find out what Ian spilled on his pants. What does Ian smell like today? Well, ladies and gentlemen, this is what he smells like. Driftless Glen. Driftless Glen. It is a cucumber-flavored vodka distilled from grain 80-proof, 40% alcohol per volume, handcrafted in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Local stuff. Nice. One of my favorite gin and tonic drinks, and for those of you guys who fancy themselves gin guys, gin and tonic guys especially, my favorite gin is Hendrix. And Hendrix is made with cucumbers. It's infused with cucumbers. So for those of you who go out to fancy bars and you order a Hendrix and, you know, tonic, watch what the bartender puts in there. If he puts a lime in that gin and tonic, don't buy that. Don't pay for that. Don't drink that shit. They've ruined the Hendrix. You need a cucumber slice as a garnish in Hendrix and tonic. sounds fancy it's delicious it's fucked up with a lime you don't want that no uh but this is i don't have any cucumbers i'm just going straight up tonic water and this vodka and i will tell you it's smooth and i taste the cucumber but it's not like there's no sweetness added to it it just tastes like there's like cucumber water almost it's not bad it's refreshing i'll get fucked up on this tonight drew i'll get pretty i'm sure you will i'll get pretty saucy all right drew What are you drinking there, pal? I bought some pre-mixed Moscow Mules. So it's just called Mule. It's the authentic flavor of the 1941 Moscow Mule. I heard a funny story about the Moscow Mule. You want to hear it? Yeah. So I don't know how true this is or not. I might have read this on Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt. But I think it was a Smirnoff vodka. And when they first came out, they were struggling big time. they could not sell that stuff when it first came out so what year is this the year the moscow mule came out okay yeah they were they were almost bankrupt and um they were just trying to unload the stuff and there was a other company who thought ginger beer was going to be the next big thing so they uh had a ton of ginger beer and they're trying to push it on everybody and Nobody wanted this shit. So they ended up combining forces, and they created the Moscow Mule with vodka and ginger beer. And it became such a hit, a sensation, it basically saved both companies. Well, at least the Smirnoff company. Sure. And that sounds a lot like the Jaeger Red Bull story. Oh, I'm sure it is. You know, because Jaeger, it's like, we've talked about this. No one drinks Jaeger. It's like shots of Jaeger. I used to Nobody does it very often They do it in their youth The fuck was I thinking But then along comes Red Bull And they fucking slap you in the face With it Here's your Jager But don't drink it with alcohol But it's extremely good with alcohol Fucking assholes Remember that viral YouTube video That guy, Jager Bounce Jager Bounce for everybody Ian, turn me on, this was years ago Mom, get me some protein powder. That was like the early 2000s, wasn't it? Needs a gag of moms. Yeah. Yeah. So look it up. It's on YouTube. But yeah, there's this guy with his probably Boston accent. It was Jersey Shore before Jersey Shore. Yeah. Yeah. He was like, I think Jersey Shore guys fucking ripped him off. This video got like millions of views before a lot of videos got millions of views. Yeah. No, he was making fun of those guys. So how is it, Drew? It's good. For a non-mixed mixed drink. It's not overly sweet because I don't like sweet drinks, so it was good. Not like that Soul Boxer. I don't like sweet drinks, but Soul Boxer was like 99% sugar. I know. That was just awful. Never again. I got to tell you, man, I applaud you for your laziness. It's just two ingredients. I did it. It's like a pre-mixed rum and Coke. I opened the can and I put it on ice. Fucking proud of you, man. Yeah. That is stellar. That's stellar. That's poor man's bartending style. All right. So do we have any golf stories this week? No. No golf stories. Good. All right. Let's move on to pinball. Good. I kept my concussions to a minimum this week. All right. So what's on our agenda first, Drew? We got a little personal pinball news. So let's just jump right into our poor man's podcast, personal pinball news. And now, the moment you've all been waiting for. Of course, I'm talking about the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast, Personal Pinball News. All right, Drew, sell, sell, sell. Buy, buy, buy. What do we got, Drew? That's the notes. Everyone has seen it. Some people have made fun of me. Some people have commended me. Some people talk shit behind my back. Who's commending you? I don't know. someone somewhere someone's like yay drew no there's some people that were like oh nice games this and that but most people are like yeah i'm not buying that turd um i put up a bunch of games because i only need to get rid of one so i just you know i put some feelers out there i just want to get rid of it i got my turtles coming next month thanks zach um your checks in the mail you can trust me really just just ship it yeah just just ship it i'll get you those thousands of dollars you know yeah i bet it's fine um uh but no so hopefully next month i get my hands on turtles but uh yeah so you know i got stars up i got laser q up i got firepower up meteor still in parts in my garage because it's so freaking hot every time i go out there you know i'm just like i don't want to work on this fucking thing yeah it's an arcade game i'm i'm slowly restoring it's 100 degrees outside it's 120 degrees in my garage and i'm like oh man i don't want to do this so So, yeah, I only got a couple more hours on it. So I'll hopefully get it done in a week or so. Get some powder coat. Call that one good, too. So if you guys are looking for stars, a firepower, or a laser cue, let me know. So a stern stars, a firepower, and a laser cue. Yep. And I think laser cue is going to stay. I've said this before. I like playing that one. So stars, I'm going to get some more shit for this. Everyone seems to love stars. It doesn't cost very much, but everyone loves it. And I'm just like, eh. Eh. I see the appeal. It is a fun game, but I guess it's just not for me. Doesn't tickle the balls, Drew. Nope. So, yeah, if you want a nice stars. And, yeah, lots of people reached out. Everyone's like, stars, stars, stars. I'm like, well, then why are they only this much money? Yeah. If everyone wants them, I don't get it. I don't know. I feel like people have been pimping out the early sterns. Yep. And that's just one of those that people bring up. yeah that's that's very true and it is uh it is a simpler game than even like a you know sea witch or quicksilver so there you go all right cool man um yeah so last week uh what was the last week wednesday i was actually got invited to turbo graphic 7 stream where we were at david brendan's basement and i got to play hot wheels before i get into hot wheels let's talk about david Jeff Brenner's basement it's fucking stacked full of games i wanted to play most of them they were awesome he had a really nice fathom i got a game in on fathom because i had never played fathom before so i had to do it they're like hey how are you i was like yeah yeah yeah hold on i'm gonna press start here and just get a game in real quick and uh warm up um i did want to play houdini but he had it off it was right next to the hot wheels i was a little bummed about that but uh um but dave has quite the collection as you uh have heard and uh now that i've seen it in person um i'm looking forward to breaking in one day and just playing it all day while he's at work what what game impressed you the most there um october fest you're such a homer No, you know what impressed me? I would say the lineup. He's got, I think, four or five Zachariah games. Yep. And the thing about Zachariah that impresses me so much, he has a Magic Castle and he has a few others, and they're all weird names, so I'll never be able to remember them. Dave's probably pulling out his hair listening to this going, God damn it, Ian, I'll tell you what they all are. One of them's Clown. Yeah. Well, the thing about Zachariah games is, you know, they're early solid states, right? Mm-hmm. But they really spent some time to layer plastic, something we didn't see until Special Forces in 1986. There is a lot more cosmetic beauty to some of those. The artwork, the flashes, the plastics, the different layers of plastics to really build. They were really trying to go for a world under glass. The Magic Castle back glass. Yeah, the back glass. You know, there's multiple dimensions to even the back glasses. Yeah, those Zacharias were pretty goddamn impressive. I was really, really impressed with those just as a visual standpoint. So that was probably my – you walk over and you look over them and you're like, yeah, those are beautiful games. So now give us the real impression on Fathom. Yeah, it's a sucky game. Oh, yeah. No, and you know what? That is – Sorry, guys. Well, it's kind of what I was just talking about with stars. It's gorgeous. It's the prettiest game I've ever seen. A lot of the games from that era, they just don't hold up as deep games. But, yeah, they're awesome to look at. They're beautiful, especially Dave's because they're restored. But some of the games just aren't as much fun. You can send your hate mail. Sure. Poremancepinball at gmail.com, and I'll take it. I'll take my lumps. The shots and layout and everything just screams for just an okay experience. well once again i think it depends on your the size of your collection yep you know if if you have two games but it's not worth the money i don't care how big your collection and and there's that because now what does a phantom go for like six grand yeah it's not worth it yeah it's you can it's pretty but like if that was next to a cactus jacks guess who would i play honestly it's weird but now the hate males yeah or if it's next to a a roller games oh you better believe i'm playing roller games or a taxi uh i think those are all cheaper games so of those three games i think most would agree with the latter two almost no one would agree with the cactus jacks fucking cool game i don't care if you ask a hundred pinball nerds what would you rather play oh yeah them or we're talking pinball nerds here hold on the general person remember we talked about it all right it's a party you have a bunch of random people here and people there's a bunch of games back to back to back they're going to be playing cactus jack yes and you're like but i got a ghostbusters over there six grand for fathom it doesn't matter what's this guy got a barnacle dick well dave said that dave has a little uh i think it was his puck bowler there yeah yeah and he goes sometimes when he has parties there that's all people play yeah he has a puck bowler yeah i love puck bowlers yeah they're great i wanted to play it but it was it it was off and i was like oh so is this turn on he's like yeah it does oh shit it was getting late though i needed to go home and actually work but all right so i had the hot wheels you guys are probably wondering bated breath um my impression of hot wheels is this so since it's just you we'll do the quick rundown so let's start art what do you think oh yeah art uh art colorful super colorful very bright very vibrant better than the pictures as anticipated oh yeah yeah Everything really popped. I really, really enjoyed, and this is kind of part of it, is what I really liked was the, I didn't think I was going to like it, but the LCD screen off to the left. I really dug that because it opens up the artwork on the rest of the back glass. And it's a natural thing. You look up and it's right there. It doesn't throw you off at all. So do you think Zach Manya liked that in his row of LCDs? Oh, because he wants them all the same? I didn't listen to that. episode the last episode sorry zach we heard all that and i know dennis gave you quite a bit of crap i i didn't uh i didn't listen to that one but i'm i saw the the description of you know the back boxes being uh like a freshly mowed lawn like everything needs to be the same size yep yep email us at poor man's pinball at gmail.com if you're one of those people that needs everything in a nice tidy little row no it's just email zach i don't care uh so no i really liked it um uh so out of cheese slices yeah it was a solid 15 cheese slices wow art was really really pretty okay now we have uh shots and layout because you actually got to shoot this beast yeah shots and layout before i go there let's go into animation and display animation display i will say that the animations were good they look better for whatever reason on like the streams i don't know i was i was i paid more attention to them on the streams but when you're playing you don't really watch much and what really bothered me was it wasn't clear to me at and dave explained it to me like three times what player one was at with his score what player two was with his score and player three at his score like it doesn't it doesn't show the scores very well um okay so i never knew where dave and and and ryan kuiper were so a little bit of cleaning up on some yeah i don't know how they would do it but they'd have to figure out a better way to display the scores well the good news is that's just code yeah so no doubt all right so uh shots and layout it was fast every shot was butterly buttery smooth like it was it felt like a Steve Ritchie game like a really good Steve Ritchie game wow that's high shot so good it was so fast no matter where you aim that ball and wherever that ball went you knew it was coming back at you pretty quickly you know what i'm saying like hitting any of the orbits the inner orbits even in the middle there's that kind of goofy rpm and then it kind of like zigzags into the pops um at first i was like man that's got to be impossible getting to the pops but really it wasn't you know it ricochets pretty good in that little thing it's kind of a cool little uh cool little shot but uh i really do like that uh balser adds this and i think he's done it now for the last few games he might it might actually be a staple but i like having a little gap where if you shoot the ball right and it bounces right and you can nudge it just right you can get it back in the shooter lane so like oktoberfest has it i know houdini has it and hot wheels has that and it's actually kind of cool i was able to nudge it out of the you know in the danger zone and into the um the shooter lane and it got me more points working on his nudging i love it was real cool um yeah i really enjoyed that part of it yeah it was fast it was so fast and the the leds on there were really colorful it was a good light show but what But what I like most about it, just like I like with Oktoberfest and even with Houdini, is they really program it so it's super user-friendly. You don't need to look at the screen at all to find out what you need to shoot. You can see all that information right on the play field. You very rarely even have to look up maybe to see what your score is at. But for the most part, everything is very clearly defined what you're trying to go for. So you're a beginner, someone you're having a party over, that's a good game for? Yeah, because you're like, ah, shoot the blue flashing arrows. The race marks, you know, each ramp, each shot basically has, and orbit has, you know, your race position. So one through, I think it's 12, and it's kind of in a random order. So you really want to try to hit those in order. So 12, 11, 10, 9, and that's how you advance your, your points in your race car and you're you're gonna win this race you hit the rpms uh to help you with your your multiplier and your scoring and then you also uh have uh that uh oh that kickback that upper kick out the kick out that shoots up that little funky loop that helps you build your track so there's all these little things going on but nothing got overwhelming it was very simple to do and even when i was aiming for you know the inner orbit but then i hit that track i was like fuck it i just built a track i meant to do that um so yeah that was really fun i would say i would say there's not one bad thing about that game other than by the end of the night i was i was kind of okay with it like i was i was kind of done playing okay that's fair you know i don't know how this would be if this was your only game in the collection that would be my only concern not that it isn't deep but i'm not a big race car fan you know i don't have any race pins i don't really desire any race pins um so with that being said the theme didn't really call to me but i had a lot of fun shooting it if i had anything under a four pin collection which i do i probably wouldn't have a hot wheels but if i had something over for uh hot wheels would be a great addition because it's a lot of fun. You can play that game. My ball times were relatively long, but I was just playing like my hair was on fire. So I did get a small... I wasn't able to go because I was spending the night with my wife at home, but I did get to catch a little bit of the stream and we had a couple of tribe members on there and Orbital Alberts and billy yager were on there tim lee was on there too brad hopkins was on there there a lot of them we were betting and i bet against ian every time and we were betting bits yep and albert bet against ian and billy yj said ian's my horse and ian cost albert and i 500 bits on twitch so billy you're a son of a bitch ian you're a son of a bitch too i'm glad you played well and don't count me out brother that was a lot of fun though but uh so so overall your hot wheels experience is pretty good oh man yeah i uh i got to red light mania which was really cool oh i didn't even know that yeah Yeah, I got to Red Light Mania, so you're basically in the heat of passion. That's just for lack of a better term. In the heat of passion, everything shuts off. The whole machine just shuts off. But is that like a mini wizard mode, a mini? I'm not sure. Yeah. I have no idea how I got it. But I was there. I'll be honest. Yeah. Everything shuts down. And you're like, the ball drains. You're like, all right. And then all of a sudden, yeah, the red lights start kicking on. and then it says red light or red you know that sounds like a pretty cool moment like that's cool it's four it's a what a six ball multiball for 45 seconds oh shoot as many as you yeah jack shot or jackpot shots as you can and oh that go as far as you can and and just rack up points and then when it's done everything drains and then you start a ball you know i heard another podcast talking about that and they were talking about a few other games that do that um like simpsons does that at the end of alien invasion when you're done the timer's out yeah the game just goes dead and then it starts back over that's a cool pinball moment more games should use that oh yeah right how cool it's so easy to code too it's just like okay after this timer expires just shut everything off yeah and you just get another ball reset yeah like it just and like you said it's such a cool moment i stand there in front of it and watch the lights it was cool it was fun it was a moment you There was a few moments in that game. Zach always talks about pinball moments. Got me thinking about when Kugler is going to start getting respect for these games he's coding because as deep as Houdini is and Oktoberfest, did he do Houdini? I don't know if he did Houdini, but I know as deep as Oktoberfest is and as awesome as Hot Wheels is, Kugler needs to get some more recognition, I believe. Sure. And that's going to come with more unit sales. You know what I mean? Mm-hmm. No, I get it. We know Oktoberfest and Houdini combined don't sell what one Stern title does. Nope, I get it. That's the biggest hurdle. Regardless, that dude can fucking code. No, that sounds awesome. He can fucking code. I'm sure that game's going to do great on location, as locations start opening. Yeah, I would say location pin for sure, and like I said, larger collections for sure. And the other thing for any collectors out there or Hot Wheels people, you can put any car you want in those little car holders. Yeah, it's kind of cool. I saw someone put a Millennium Falcon Hot Wheels on the spinner, and it was spinning around like it was flying. It was really cool. So ridiculous. And they're like, yep, any vehicle, any Hot Wheels vehicle, shove it on here. Yeah. And I just thought that was neat. That's a nice little touch, you know? No, it's cool, man. Yeah, I had a lot of fun with it. and if this is your first pin you're getting in, you're all bummed that, oh, this isn't going to be a good first pin. I'm not saying it's not a good first pin. If you like the theme at all, I'm sure you'll think it's awesome. It's not like this is a bad first pin. It's a hell of a first pin. This is a fantastic fucking first pin. I'm just saying smaller collections, and if you're a pinball guy who loves pinball. Yes, there's a lot of games like that. Yeah, you might get a little tired of it just because, yeah, the shots and everything is so fast. Sure. You know, and you kind of get, you can probably, I tore that fucker up after, I don't know, two hours. I mean, I got some pretty good scores at the end there. I almost GC'd the damn thing. If you're trying to convince your wife to get a Hot Wheels pin, just say, okay, I'm going to get a Hot Wheels pin and a Jurassic Park. Problem solved. Okay, Drew. Mr. TMNT and Jurassic Park. But no, again, thank you, Ryan. Thank you, Dave, for having me over there. I had so much fun with those guys. They're such good people. And, you know, thanks for everyone that made the stream. And that made it special because I love talking to everybody there. And I thank you, Balser and Kugler and everyone at American Pinball for making such a cool game. It's another, god damn, I'm sorry, American Pinball is like three for three on me. Like, I love all their games so far. No, that's awesome. And, you know, they're going to build that fan base team, starting with Ian. Ian's leading the charge here. He's got an Oktoberfest. He's going to get a Hot Wheels tomorrow. Yep, and Houdini is on order already. Thank you, Zach Many. I'm joking. Do they even sell those anymore? I don't even know. But, no, great third effort, and I'm sure we're going to see more from them. Well, plus they reduced the price on this. So even the more the reason to. That's the biggest news, I think, about this one is that it's Stern Pro Price. So make it happen. Get excited, fuckers. Cool. Did you happen to listen to the newest episode of Super Awesome Pinball Show? Our boy Franchi? Yep, our boy Franchi and Dr. Pin. Yeah, and his wife. Special guest there. Mrs. Pin. Mrs. Pin. She tied the whole thing together. Yeah. I like a little swearing in my women, so it was nice. And in my podcast. So, yeah, no, I listened to most of the George Gomez interview. Great, great interview. I listened to the whole beginning and everything and the Gomez interview. My biggest takeaway is from that interview, if you haven't, give it a listen. It was probably, I'll say it was one of the best podcast interviews of the year because, you know, George Gomez doesn't do a lot of them, but he gave a lot of, I'll say, unfiltered, uncensored answers. It didn't seem scripted at all, which is very cool. And he talked a lot about Stern's business and how they're moving forward and what their plans are. And he kind of, I'm going to say it, he debunked some of the myths that go on on Pinside all day, every day. Yeah, some of the stuff we kind of knew, but it was nice to get a reminder because we get bombarded with all these crackpots who think they can run a company, a pinball company, better than George Gomez. Sure. And he has his finger on the pulse, and what we suspected for a long time is what they're doing. They are trying to get into as many markets as possible, just like any good business. So when they do the Star Wars home pin and everyone collectively groans and goes, what is this thing? It's just a toy. They're not selling it to you. We've said that. And he said that. He said no, where someone who thinks they may want a pinball machine in their game room, they see a $6,000 Stern Pro, and they're like, yeah, I don't think I want to spend six grand. And then they're like, well, you know, we got this Star Wars home pin. It's a Star Wars game. It's pinball, and it's $4,000. So I think it's good. But, yeah, anyways, check it out. It was just a really good interview. Anything stick out to you? Yeah, he talked a little bit about the issues with maybe re-releasing Stern Classics. Yes. And he also talked about the pain in the ass it'll be for Lord of the Rings. To port it over. To port it over. It's basically a new game. To vault it, you know. Mm-hmm. And he did talk about... But he didn't close the door on the session either. Yeah, but he just makes everyone understand that, hey, this is... Real, real. This is more than just, you already got the layout. What's the problem? He's like, what's the easy part? You having issues with the little plastic guys? No, we're not having problems with the molds and the sculpts. Everything when you lift that machine up, everything underneath that needs to be reworked. Yes. Everything in the backbox, that needs to be reworked. Yes. He was talking about Quicksilver. He's like, yeah, we have the layout. We would literally be building a brand new game. Yes. That was pretty funny. for the 60 people that want to buy a Quicksilver right now. Yeah, he said that. Yeah, I know. It's like, well, I don't know if he said that, but that's what I said. Well, he kind of – he said that in a nicer business way. In a nicer way. Where he's like – How many people want that? Yeah, how many people are going to want it? Is it worth us building a whole new machine for – yeah, for a small amount of people? Yeah, whatever the number of people is. So, no, very cool. Again, why would you build a machine for 60 people when you can release turtles and sell a thousand of them in the first month? And not only that, we kind of questioned when that new Iron Man vault came out earlier this year. Yeah. But now you think about it, it's like, okay, well, I know COVID happened, but aside from that, how many do you think they would have sold? They release it, another vault, and people just say, yeah, we're going to buy it. Yeah. you know the game's already there they have the parts that one's a little different they put it together and off they go sure sure yeah they're making money and they talk a lot about accessories and toppers others they're slowly building that business seems like they're changing that business changing the way they did it you know more customization more hey man if you're gonna buy he did have a good point if you're gonna buy a mod or an aftermarket topper you know and they're telling you you gotta drill holes or whatever you know there is something to be said about plug and play and something that'll be 100 compatible with the system that they have they know the system they know its capabilities and they can yes they can work code into it so they can make it better than any third-party topper manufacturer. With that being said, now everything I've ever gotten from the mod community has been super simple. So I don't know what he's talking about. Well, what he's really talking about, that was his way of saying we're going to get into the mod business ourselves. I know that. I know that. We see all this money being made. The way he said it, though, it was like, oh these things are dangerous and i'm like well okay you sold your uv kit but scott from the stadium sold a better one and it does not take very much to put in a pair of pin stadiums nope no it certainly doesn't and uh no it was pretty interesting because um you just want to you just want to make money i'm sure they're in a business they're looking at some of these mods that people are selling for two hundred dollars three hundred dollars and they're like well i i know that only cost $10 to make. We could make that thing for $10 or $20 and then charge the same $200 for it. Yeah, good on them. That's what they should do. But you know what? That'll just create more competition and better products for us. So that's how business works. I love it. I freaking love it. So go listen to Saps. Yes. Super awesome pinball show. Listen to our boy Franchi. Franchi? That was a satisfying episode very satisfying so what's for sale on facebook this week did you check out some facebook listings i know you did because you sent me a couple i keep tagging drew to these fucking listings some of them are just flat out absurd what is going on like what i'm selling i'm selling stuff that's moderately ridiculous yeah these are like out there oh man well the first one this week was and i'm sorry if you're a fan of the show this is your machine you're selling but dude there's no way i would pay two thousand dollars for a space invaders i had the game i played the game my game was nowhere near as as in good as shape as yours but two grand is absurd for space invaders there's a i sold mine for 800 and even that i felt like i got the better end of that yeah short short of a official high-end restoration like a hep pen or something you know there's a limit to what you can sell any game for space invaders those and exactly so i don't care if that's a pen i don't care what what is uh what is an average space invader sell for i think it's eight to nine okay to a thousand so like a really nice one 15 1500 is kind of the top of the mark 15 maybe okay if you really said he maybe he'll take 15 but two grand i was like motherfucker holy shit but on the other hand of that as absurd as that may sound what do we keep seeing at all prices they go up they kind of keep creeping so there's a walking dead this is the other one well this one is absurd another silly one he actually removed the listing oh did he yeah he did but uh so i don't know if it was a walking dead walking dead pro or a premium i'm not sure what it was I didn't look that closely at it But I will say this He had like the Michael Jackson Thriller custom Back glass or whatever The Translight Did he have the Well Walker mod Yeah where it's Michael Jackson He had that and then he had A couple other Michael dolls that didn't Relate to Thriller at all just Michael Dolls I think one he cut in half and put blood on it oh okay but you know with those kind of mods and all right so he didn't do anything else to the game right so he didn't do anything with so let's just assume he didn't do anything with the insert argument let's assume this is a premium okay okay uh yeah he didn't do anything with the inserts i mean it still said walking dead all over the thing so it's not like so it's a walking dead pin it's just heavily modded it's got a silly silly mod it's got an Alternate Translate. Yep. And it's got a different Well Walker. And he said it was a one-of-a-kind, which made me laugh. It is a one-of-a-kind. Yeah. Yeah. It's very custom. Very custom. 15K is what he was trying to get out of it. 15K. Did you say 1,500? Is there too many? $15,000. 15-0-0-0. And I'm just like, how? What? Why? Where? Who? You know the irony of this? I'm trying to sell a Firepower for $2,900. ah a little too no it's not that bad not 15k bad though no no 15k because even even if that was desirable which i saw the um and listened to the video video the audio um mod with that with like you know pin sound or whatever okay and it was cool but like you're basing it on one song though yeah correct and and it was cool and they did have some other sound effects and stuff so they actually did a really good job with that audio package i don't even know if that's in there or i don't either i'm assuming it was too busy laughing at it but but how much value if any does that even add you know how much value do mods add no almost none depending on yeah here's what the value is all right there's there's i think there's two tiers of mods right yeah there's like legit game-changing, game-altering, far superior than stock mods. The Creature from the Black Lagoon hologram. Yes, that would be one. Where he had the Mike D LCD. It's got to be limited. It's got to be desirable. The Mike D LCD screen on Creature would be a perfect example, Drew. The Black Knight topper. Yes, the Black Knight. Yeah, definitely adds to the value of the pin. Yes. um dolls rubber duckies none of that does no no so what that does is it adds a value in the sense of okay you want to sell your game there's a bunch of let's just say black knight sort of rage premiums for sale and they're all on the marketplace for around what six grand but yours is the one with the topper yours is gonna get sold first that's the value comes in yep yep it's gonna get sold first and you're gonna get an extra 100 200 bucks yeah maybe yeah maybe depends on the mod that yeah that scenario at least you get sold first but like yeah if you are you know you got a monster bash like i had and it was heavily modded and you sell that with a bunch of stock ones yours is gonna sell first that's where mods kind of help sweeten the deal bit um but but you're talking trying to sell for the same price yeah with the mods yeah if that a little bit more but it depends on the mods and all that stuff but still i don't think mods add that much value no and and most of the time they don't i mean you know i i not gonna even tell you how much i spent on simpsons mods but i'm never getting more than five percent of that back sure you know i mean that's just that that's the reality like you said almost almost nothing no and i've seen some really cool mods like some of those trons that are modded out you'll probably get some of that money back that's a game yeah there's certain mods out there there are certain mods out there that do really take a game to the next level but with that being said those are far and few between that every game has those special mods very true so very very very true all right how many creatures out there have the mike d mod you know very few yeah i think you only made what like 100 of those or 200 or something so i feel like uh every other month uh troy smith always has another one with a mike d mod that funny motherfucker he's he has a stockpile of them i want one all right anyway so that's that's what's going on both i wouldn't mind i think they were selling one on pin side of brand new in box mike d mod yeah i've seen him from time to time. I forgot what it went for, but yeah, that sold quickly. Yeah, because what was the retail on that? It was like $500, and they were getting like... Double. Yeah, $1,000, $1,500. Yep, that's what happens. Yep. So, with all that modding stuff talking about and how people have different tastes in games, I thought we would talk a little bit about collectors today. Ooh, collectors. Pinball collectors. Pinball collectors. You know, because as I've been in this hobby longer and longer, you meet a lot of people, you talk to a lot of people, you find out what kind of, you know, you're... All right, before you get into it, Drew. Yep, yep, yep. Ladies and gentlemen that are listening, take a deep breath. Close your eyes. And I just want you to think about what kind of collector you are before Drew gets into this. Get a good preconceived notion of who you are as a collector. What is it that excites you about this hobby? and what pisses you off. Okay. Okay. All right. So, you know, you have friends of yours that say, oh, I have this, you know, this game, and I think it's awesome. And you're like, yeah, that game's not that great. Or, you know, like we were talking about Dave earlier, you know, he's got these beautiful games, and sometimes you play them, and you're like, ah, you know, it's just not fun, but they're awesome to look at. so you know so Dave in Dave's case like he you know he collects a lot of high-end stuff he restores them they all look beautiful you know that's where he spends a lot of his time you know me personally um you know I play my games often you know I'm a player first I I like doing some of the restoration I like doing you know fixing them and tinkering with them but you know for me first and foremost it is gameplay is this game fun can i keep playing it um you know my collection is i have limited space so even if i have more money which i don't have a ton of money but i can't i can't buy 10 games because i just simply don't have the room so i gotta figure out what five or six games you know a my wife's gonna let me bring in the house because once again that walking dead that is like i said she has not kiboshed any games i could bring a playboy into the house she would be fine with that i could not bring a walking dead into the house fine she doesn't like the zombie yeah well my wife doesn't like horror stuff first of all but mostly she saw it she goes that's the ugliest piece of shit i've ever seen yeah sorry john borg yeah um she's she's just not into anything horror anything zombie um i think honestly if i get one i would just not tell her get it in there and then she'd be like you're an idiot because she doesn't play as as we know but um yeah but that's one of them so so you're you're a player first yeah i'm a player first and then secondly you know what does that mean well how many how many plays do you put on a game oh i i play jurassic park now i play three to five games a day every day without damn yes i know ian's telling me i haven't turned this thing on in a week whatever no i my x over fest yes yeah dude no i i play i play pinball almost daily and i play yeah i'd say anywhere between three and ten games is probably my average like today yeah when i i came home from work today you know spent some time with the wife we had a little dinner and yada yada yada bye lady yeah see ya and then uh well no she she was you know so she was off doing something else and then i i turned on jurassic park and i you know i think i put three games on today so so you're a player first so what you're saying is you get that a thousand plays in and then you're ready for the next challenge yes depending on the game now you know some games will last longer some games won't last quite as long but yeah i'd say a thousand games is a good so if i play you know three games a day that's a year right yeah so you know simpsons simpsons i probably have yeah I'd say a thousand plays that one's still sticking around but you know Iron Maiden I put my 1500 in Iron Maiden that was when I was newer to the hobby yeah I put on a ton of plays like I think 1500 and I was just like yeah I'm done with this game because you know I want something else so you know it is what it is and but but as I gone on now I learned to be smarter with my purchases not buying as many mods if I not you know going to be keeping the game because then that keeps my costs down and you know makes it more economical if I move it on. Economical. Yep, economical. Economical pinball collector over here. Yeah, there's nothing economical about it. I have a spreadsheet. I will not share that information with anyone, especially my wife. I haven't seen it. You want to show me? It is brutal. So every so often I open it up, and then I'm like, okay, this is what I sold, this is what I bought. And then you have the amount left over, and that's the actual money you're out, right? Because it's like, okay, I outlaid this much cash. I sold these games, I got that cash back. And then you have this number left over, and then you're like, okay, if I sold these games, because conservatively I'd sell them for this much, that deficit, it's a little hard to swallow sometimes, because I'm like, even if I sold all my games tomorrow, I'm like, yep, this is an expensive fucking hobby. So it doesn't sound like condition is, the condition of the pens is as important to you, or? That's dependent on the game, I think. meaning if i'm buying an older game then no i'm i'm okay with it being you know beat up okay being a player's condition game sure because i'm buying it to play okay all right player first as long as everything works yes all right but with that being said if the price is right the price is right and and because i i've also learned too i don't have you know none of us have unlimited time i'm sure a few guys out there guys and gals do tim lee yeah but but i unfortunately do not have that much time so i'm only limiting myself to one project at a time now there you go so that that's the other thing so now once i kind of get my four i'm gonna call it a four pin collection going which i'm close now once turtles comes then i'll have four pins and i'll always have one project going one project going because that just kind of keeps i i like that okay so right now it's meteor once i get meteor put back together i may or may not sell it and then i'll move on to a project that next to me yep awesome yep what about you what kind of collector is he in yeah i i really didn't think much about it um you know i guess i'm a combination of a player you know i like i'm not gonna sit here and so here's the thing i'm too cheap too fucking cheap to have an eight thousand dollar toy down here and i just walk by it to go do laundry every that's how every day like i don't like why see when i was into the arcade stuff that was easy i can walk by a two hundred dollar galaxian all day long be like don't worry so i spent three hundred dollars on this thing four hundred dollars if it burns to the ground i'll just be like yeah well that sucks you know whatever it's over you know i i get my but when you're talking about something as expensive as you know a seven thousand dollar you know monster bash i was walking by it all the time i was like it's too expensive to be walking by you gotta at least play it you know and and um so i'm too cheap to have games that just sit so i have to play them and because of my space now my my basement bar is a bar it's a bar first and then it's a pinball room second so i only want two games down here because any more than two is just looks fucking ridiculous down here so right now i have laser war and oktoberfest i'm happy with those two games right now because laser war was a project and it's still kind of a project because i'm still working on it still tinkering with it i want to get it perfect um but you know i think my joy comes from a little bit of both i think this is a good representation of what i enjoy in this hobby i enjoy new pinball i enjoy all the work that goes into it. I like the deeper codes. I like a lot of these things, but I also love and appreciate some of the older ones and I love to work on them. So for me, a two-pin collector, I want one deep game and I want one game that I can fuck around with and fix and make it pretty and make it better than when I got it. So, you know, when Laser ward leaves this basement i'll probably be looking for another project pin i don't know when october fest is leaving i had too much fun with this game still so um i might actually have october fest this might be i'm just calling it out now i might have october fest longer than any other pin i've had just because it's something that um it resonates with me and i love it so much so and i enjoy playing it um but with the laser war yeah i mean once that's done i'll probably want it out of here as quickly as possible so i can get something else down here but that's kind of where i am um player and restore that's kind of where i fit in there sure uh condition doesn't matter to me because i like tinkering so i don't you know i don't mind issues that can be fixed um it does irritate me to hear when people buy a brand new machine and they gotta fuck around with it to get it to just play right that does that does rub me the wrong way that's that cheap cheap asshole inside of me like i don't i don't like that i don't like that you guys work very hard for your money and shit comes out of the factory and it's not tested and you know you got kind of a doa pin on your hands you know so i don't i don't like that bit um but i also i have i have Zero, I have no concept, I don't understand it, of the collector quality pen. Like, people that want the most beautiful pen imaginable, the perfect example of this pen. I don't get it because just like anything that you use, like a car guy, right? He wants a perfect, you know, I don't know, Dodge, you know, Charger, right? you know a 70 dodge challenger whatever if he wants a perfect example of that machine i would i would hate to drive it you know if i had a perfect example there is and with pinball i feel the same way i feel like you're gonna pay a lot for a game you can get depending on the game i at half the price basically you know what's funny about that I just don't get it. Yeah. You know, after I spent all that time on Firepower, you know, the stuff that isn't perfect, it sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Because, you know, I worked on it. I ripped the thing apart. I did everything. And now that's part of the reason I'm really trying to get rid of it. You know, it works. It's a great game. But these little, like, small imperfections now, I'm like, you know, it's almost like I'm my own worst enemy. Sure. Right? But now my Jurassic Park is brand new. I don't worry about a little thing here, a little ding. It doesn't bother me. Does that make sense? No, no, no, no. I get that. Yeah, it's just kind of this weird thing. Well, you're a player, and I get that because you're like, well, I'm going to use this. And I'm having fun. Yeah, I'm just... I'm going to take this, and I'm going to play with this toy. Yes. I'm playing with the toy. So, like I said... If some paint rubs off on the G.I. Joe, do you cry? No, you fucking play harder. No, so it's just... It's not an $8,000 G.I. Joe, but you get the point, guys. It's one of those things. I don't understand, though, like I said, the museum piece. Yeah, so I get it on some level, but then, like I said, it would just bother me because it's like, oh, yeah, there's that smudge there, or there's this little piece that didn't work right, or, you know, whatever it is. Or you bust it out that one time a month and you play it and the ball runs over a perfectly, you know, it runs over a switch perfectly and it doesn't engage. Yeah. Yeah. It's just a motherfucker, you know, but you know, that, that to me, I don't, I don't know that that actually stresses me out more than buying a broken ass. Yes. And me trying to fix it. No. And that's exactly it. Because when I was just fixing the firepower, it was fun because it's like this beat-up old machine, and I'm just messing around. You can only make it better at one point. Yeah, exactly. Like, this doesn't work. Now it does. But, yeah, it's just something about you're right because you don't want to drive it. You don't want to play it. I appreciate it. Yeah, absolutely. Like, I like going to car shows, right, and watching these beautiful cars. I'm like, oh, that's gorgeous. Oh, I would love that. But then I would have it, and my daughter would run her bike into it, and I'd go, well, now I have to kill my dog. No, I'm joking. I'm joking, guys. I'm joking. But that would be the same thing. I could have the nicest example of whatever. Name a game, right? Bad Cats. The best Bad Cats in the history of Bad Cats. I know. This is a bad example. But if I came down here and watched my daughter, like, hang on the shooter knob, the shooter rod, I'd be like, get off it, woman. Get off it. That's not what it's for. Yeah, and it's just, you know, that's just different styles of personality. Exactly. Just like anything else. But I don't understand it. I don't get it. So if you guys ever hear me talk about that kind of thing, just understand I don't understand it. Well, we're all different. You know, we were giving Zach some shit earlier about, you know, he wants to have his stuff lined up. You know, there's a lot of people like that, too. Oh, yeah. I just want these LCDs or I just want these DMDs. Or in Dave's case, you know, he just wants a lot of those early solid states and stuff. And that's cool. That's how they collect. That's what they want. And that's the beauty about this hobby. I guess the moral of the story here, guys, is there's no wrong way to collect a pinball machine. As long as you enjoy the hobby, whichever way it is. Well, step one, divorce your wife. That's just the easiest way. Yeah, unless she's buying your pins, you know, like Tim Lee's case. No, I'm joking, Tim. But no, if she's buying your pins, keep her around. But if she's not, yeah, you might as well just get a divorce quicker. It's just going to help. Yeah, it'll help you get more pins. Because once you get divorced, then you can stack up on your pins. Don't stack up on your pins and then get divorced because she's going to take half of your pins, even though she doesn't like them. Yeah, you got to do that the right way. Yeah. There's steps involved. The Poor Man's Podcast, Personal Divorce Rules. News. News. News rules. Yeah. Yeah. This is sound advice. and once again if anyone's listening to us for political religious or marriage advice you are in the wrong fucking place do not listen to us once again no political no religious no marriage just get out of here we're here to fucking entertain and make you guys just cringe a little but no i guess the moral of the story is a good story though it's like hey enjoy the hobby don't judge and love everybody well and don't you know kind of like pin side a lot i'm just gonna i'm to pick on Munsters because that was a thing when it came out and everyone was like, yeah, it's a beautiful game, it's franchise art. People started poo-pooing on it, including us, and then we just kind of jump on that bandwagon. Don't do that. That's good advice for life. Just, you know, if you like it, buy it. If you don't like it, sell it. And if you don't like it and you didn't buy it, shut up. Nobody cares what your opinion is. Well, that's a whole other topic, yeah. How about the non-collector? Yeah. The one that sits in the shadows and tells everyone else what they should be collecting. Oh, that's funny. I mean, we have a podcast. We fill it up. Yeah, we have opinions on machines. That's fine. Sure, sure. But we're never going to shit on someone for buying a machine. No, no. And by the way, I mean, I've said it from the start. Monsters is fun. Shit, Josh Mudd has his premium. He said that thing's never leaving. Yeah. Tribe member Josh Mudd, he loves that thing. And Franchi even mentioned how much he would love a code update, and so does Josh Mudd. Yeah, I think that game will get a code update. It's going to take a while, but they'll get there with it. Flip N Out Pinball. You want a new Stern? Boom, we have you covered. You want a new Chicago Gaming Company remake? Boom, we have you covered. You want a brand new Shiny from JJP? Guess what? Boom, we have you covered again. P3 Multimorphic? We can do that too. We got mods, shaker motors, even some used pinball inventory. Flip N Out Pinball also sells the Stair Climbing Escalera Hand Truck. Email Zach at Flip N Out Pinball or call or text 812-457-9711. Zach at Flip N Out Pinball. Flip, letter N, Out Pinball. All right. Cool, man. Cool. All right. We're getting there, man. How about a history lesson? Yeah. That's like about a month. It's been a while. A month away now. a month from the last one, I guess. We did Future Spa. We did Laser War. And now we have our third installment. Oh, we did a hard body as well. Oh, so our fourth installment. This is our fourth installment. And now it's time for a history lesson brought to you by Poor Man's Pinball Podcast. If you're not careful, you may learn something before it's done. Drew threw down the challenge of Stellar Wars, so I did some research, tried to learn as much as I could about the game. I'm so happy to report that he did not buy me a Stellar Wars because this fucker looks like a goddamn boat, but we'll get more into that here in a bit. Space Invaders 2.0. God, worse. Worse? Worse. All right, so here we go. Ready. All right, here we go. Stellar Wars. Made in 1979. It was a super wide body designed by none other than Steve Ritchie himself. Now, what does a super wide body mean? Actually, I know we've seen some big wide bodies. You know, I know Space Invaders is one. What's the other one? Was it Wipeout or Hot Doggin' maybe? I don't know. I think it's Hot Doggin' is another one that was the size of Space Invaders. it was at district 82 do you remember talking about it anyway it doesn't matter um so but a super wide body actually is wider than those uh so how is that even possible so the cabinet is directly as wide as the backbox like they are identically the same width now space invaders for I mean, Space Invaders was a little skinnier than the backbox, not by much. But this is a super wide body. It's only one of two super wide bodies that have ever been made. The other one was actually from the next year, 1980. Williams released Laser Ball. So they clearly didn't sell enough Stellar Wars, so they had leftover cabinets. So they made a game called Laser Ball. Another bad idea. Yep. well you know these super wides they did not look that fun but um so let's see here yeah and superman was another one that Steve Ritchie designed that was a wide body but it wasn't a super wide body all right so stellar man wasn't that atari no it was it was it was a bailey okay Steve Ritchie designed it okay maybe i don't know um all right so here we go stellar wars is a game that is based or depict you know i think it basically what it is is they were trying to rip off the popularity star wars right i think star wars was released that year so this was 78 you said yeah this is 79 oh so they were making this shortly after the yeah so they're trying to get there so um stellar wars depicts a space battle between two sides over some random planet. They don't even name the planet in it, obviously. Oh, it's just the planet? Oh, we're fighting over the planet. So side one, side two. Aha, it wasn't crazy. Sorry, Superman Pinball was Atari. Yeah, but it was made by Steve Ritchie. Yeah, I'm just... Sorry, go ahead. No, it's all right. Steve Ritchie and Eugene Jervis. There you go. Yep. So unlike many of what Steve Ritchie's games, what he's known for now, This isn't a game that focuses on speed and flow. This is more of a – it rewards your accuracy and your patience. So because of that big old wide open wide body – sorry. Go ahead. You're going to need to be a lot more accurate. It's got two bank targets. two bank targets it's got wait it's got two of four bank targets and it's got I think one three bank and you're supposed to spell out yeah Stellar Wars it was really International Rescue this is really just one of those things where this one is kind of uninspired the artwork's kind of uninspired the game is pretty uninspired just in general I mean researching this one Drew super fun guys um so this is a one of the last system four games um one little funny thing about the system four games i don't know if all of them were like this but williams or was bailey bailey i think what i say no this is a williams game williams did the sweeping sound you know what the sweeping sound is true no so these older games had a what they call the sweeping sound um before you plunged a ball the the game would just beep you know beep beep beep it was really annoying super fucking annoying and um but it didn't come like that stock from the factory like they turned it off in the factory but they always recommend you turn it on once you got it on location because that beeping would indicate if your battery was getting low so if you had any battery issues you know the beeping would sure be quieter or non-existent or whatever it was supposed to be kind of a battery test so but not many people knew about it because they didn't really tell anyone about it and unless you like actively seeked like what code it took to get that thing turned on because you know it's in the settings buried deep down um not many people were aware of the the sweeping the sweeping sound of the old williams system 4 game so um all right so what else we got like i said five pop bumpers two flippers um i don't know dude this is rollovers help with the bonus multiplier there's no multiball there is a captive lock ball in there somewhere they made about 5500 of these units um you know after this though Steve Ritchie you know the next year 1980 that was a big year for Steve Ritchie because he came out with uh firepower was his next game firepower and you know what was after that black knight ah that's right black night 1980 i think he cut his teeth a little bit on these big fuckers and then he was like fuck this i'm getting an upper play field on my black knight i got an idea and i'm gonna be a famous pinball designer so that ladies and gentlemen is stellar wars the game that nobody wanted Nobody wanted to hear about that. Nope. Nobody cared about it, but Drew wanted me to do a history lesson on it. I was happy to hear that. You can all thank Drew. Send your love mail to poormanspinball at gmail.com. Address it to Drew. All right. I'm going to challenge you here on your next history lesson. We've got another month here. So I pull up inside, and guess what's number one? Oh, my God. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pro. Huh? crazy right yeah number one surprise big surprise all right so let us learn as much as we can i know how drew does this he doesn't do any research he's like that's on pin side this is all i got yep um that's all i got time for i'm a busy man i don't care i don't even know i'm looking this up black belt i want to know all i can about black belt black belt oh yes black belt black belt it is we will learn how to be a ninja yeah i was i was talking on the stream the TurboGrafx-7, I was like, Dave, are there multiple martial art games besides Black Belt? Like, could I have a collection of martial arts games, you know? And he named one more. So there's... I was going to say, there's a Dragon Fist. Dragon Fist. Dragon Fist and Black Belt. That was all he could come up with. There's not like a Kung Fu or a... I thought maybe there might be a Kung Fu. Do you remember that... I'm sure there's a... The Nintendo game Kung Fu, of course, right? Awesome game, right? Awesome game. Did you ever beat that game? Fuck no. Okay. So I watch a lot of YouTube because it's what I do now. Because I've watched all the shows and stuff. So a lot of times I just put on the headphones and the wife's sleeping and I'll just watch some YouTube before I go to bed. I know where you're going with this. Because I've done this rabbit hole too. There's this guy. And have you seen this Arcus? I don't know. He's a speed runner. Okay. for you guys who don't know he does video game speed runs okay speed run yeah a lot of people out there goddamn and the maniac the best part about this guy is okay he wears a cowboy shirt with a bolo tie and a hat that's awesome and he's got the hipster mustache does he have a cowboy hat though oh yeah yeah okay no he's legit he's he's a legit cowboy right with a hipster mustache well Well, he's got the 70s mustache. I call it, you know, so it's whatever. But he's got, you know, he's a cowboy is really what he is. I call it a hipster because that's what we have here in Milwaukee. It's not really. It's a cowboy mustache, I guess, in his case. So I think his name is Arcus. A-R-C-U-S. You can look him up. He is who he is. He is who he is. So this fucking game that I spent hours and hours playing as a child, right, and could never beat it. Guess what his time was. There five levels in Kung Fu I have no idea 3 minutes and 40 seconds I saw that time I like that gotta be a mistake I spent hours playing this game and never got past level 2 and yeah 3 minutes and like 40 seconds email us if you've ever gotten past level 2 oh my god I've never gotten past level 2 no the fucking snakes and the shit coming out of the wall cause it's like one hit and you're dead basically oh it's terrible I'm just like what the shit I was playing dragon oh double dragon three because that was the double dragon i owned yep this was that sacred stone the sacred stone yeah what was cool about it is once you beat the boss you could play the boss as the boss yeah so you could actually have like i think it was like four or five characters and you know you travel and yeah i was playing that the other day i don't know how far i got when i was a kid but it was better than what i did now because now i'm just awful now i cheat like a motherfucker and like i use like a turbo pad so i can like hold the two buttons and it automatically does like the jump kick and that's all i do throughout the whole game but i got my ass kicked sorry it's funny nintendo games are hard oh no that is notoriously how many nintendo games have you like completely beaten oh not not many very few like i could i could probably say with with all certainty yeah nintendo games it would be legend of zelda yep super mario brothers one yep super mario brothers three yep and i think that might be it oh that's the other one super mario brothers 2 which is like the hardest piece of shit ever oh yeah they beat that they beat that i've seen one of those yeah like 11 minutes yeah it's like okay yeah that game's cool to look at oh it's super it doesn't fit with the series no no it's it's an awesome game i love that one as a kid but it was always a rental for me i never owned it but it was always i probably rented it more than i oh yeah i probably could have bought one with all the money my parents spent renting that oh easy um but yeah dude there's but my favorite nintendo games are ridiculous my favorite part about this arkis he has these two like i call them signature moves or things he says because he just you know i don't know if it's a tick or whatever but when he's playing before he starts the game whenever he hits the start button or like he's doing something like that like maybe he's whatever it's just clunk and he says the word he goes clunk and then and then when he has like a thing where he's got to like hit a button like three or four times uh you know like quickly he'll go mash mash mash so i don't know why it's just funny it's just because he does it like i don't know a few times during every run and i'm just like i don't know just it just humors me you know speed runners it's like what's interesting about the speed runners is they could give a fuck about what the game's actually about or anything about the game. They don't give a shit. They just want to see how fast they can beat it. And if they can master every little nook and cranny and exploit. He's talking to people on the stream while he's doing this, and he's like, oh, yeah, you know, so-and-so, and he mentions somebody. Yeah, they're like three minutes faster than me. He doesn't like 10 minutes. That's how the guy doesn't say it. I would love to see these guys in front of a pinball machine. You know what I'm saying? With that kind of reaction speed and that kind of dedication, some of these young guys that are really good at that kind of stuff, I would love to see some of these young guys get involved with pinball. I'm willing to bet this guy's probably 30 or less. And he has a lot of followers. Oh, I believe it. I bet you that's his career. Yeah, he's probably making some coin doing that, these guys. Playing video games. Shit, I've been doing my whole life. I know, I know. I just spent all my money. never made any no no these kids now i'm too old because one i'd be that creepy old guy on twitch and number two uh i yeah i just i could never get as good as i was when i was a kid when i had all that time no it's it's amazing though and like you said these guys do it all the time you know i was playing gold and i suck at that game now i was really good at that game really good there's a few games i thought i could honestly say i was pretty fucking good at like i'm pretty sure i could beat almost anyone at any given time street fighter 2 would have been one of them but yeah nope not anymore not anymore i don't have any reaction speed all right so back to pinball back to pinball what do we got man that's it man we got we got a mailbag here oh we got rotten we do got rotten let's do some rotten action guys let's uh listen to our mr tribe member number something something mr rod and osborne he sent us another one five you know we we fucked up last week apparently he sent us one i didn't i didn't see it or listen to it i don't know what happened um but last week the last couple weeks have been weird for us just because we've been so goddamn busy so rod and we apologize brother but this is rod and newest episode so sit back and enjoy G'day Trevor, what's in the inbox this week? Same as last week, not even any hate mail. Well make something up if you have to. Any rumours? OK, so you're saying it won't be released now this year. Where did you hear that from? Ah, so he's coming back Maybe we should play the theme music from Rocky for the intro G'day poor men, Ian and Drew and you the listeners Reporting from a wet and miserable Australian winter The Australian pinball hobby currently is relegated to the home With another spike in COVID-19 Aussie dickheadism is alive and well And it seems that COVID is going to be the new normal I had the pleasure during the week to have a couple of hours on a Jurassic Park Premium with misery guts from the accounts department coughing up a month's rental for the machine. He must have won Powerball. I came away with sore hands from slapping away for two hours non-stop and really not much else. Left ramp, right ramp, top left orbit, chaos lights and blinking dinosaurs. Easy to say, thanks for the tips champ The speed of the new games for me is so much faster than the old bangers I'm used to And when you miss the shots, it's Outline City No mercy whatsoever Even WPC games of the 90s were more forgiving So with my ageing reflexes I think I'm now relegated to the classics of the solid state era I had an interesting back and forth with a couple of sellers interstate regarding, honestly, a steaming pile fresh out of the biggest dog in the neighbourhood, right on the front lawn, wasn't too far from what was on offer. The one-line description went like this, All works fine, no issues. No issues, he says. Glossing over the photos, no close-ups of the playfield, no photos of the condition of the back glass, no photos of the boards in the backbox, or underneath the playfield or inside the cabinet. From what you could see, one side of the cabinet has had the decal completely ripped off the cabinet. There is bare timber on the playfield between the flippers, but the seller tells me there are no issues. What about the fact the cabinet decals are not available, unobtainium anywhere? He informs me that it's an entry-level condition game. at $3,500 Australian dollars. That translates to about $2,500 US dollars. I know what you're thinking. 90s DMD game? Buh-bye. The game was a 1984 Bally Black Pyramid. No ramps, no speech, no multiball. Absolute povo-pack. Street-level game. A $500 game at best. He just laughed and hung up. Hello? Hello? A clapped out box of firewood from Europe at best. Another new term I noted during the week. Keep an eye out for this one. The seller informed me 24 years home use only. OK, it's been lovingly cared for in a person's game room, is the vibe of the description. The game is a 1986 Williams Highspeed. It's 2020. Let's get the calendar out, poor men. High Speed was produced in 1986 and it's been in home use for 24 years. Let me take my shoes off so I can do the sums. So it's been in someone's home since 1996. That leaves a 10 year gap from 1986 to 1996. Where by the looks of the photographs it was flogged mercilessly on site day and night working like a $3 hooker down at the naval base. The wear marks on the side of the cabinet around the flipper buttons went through to the wood. Is this really an honest appraisal of a game? Oh, and the price. $6,500 Australian. All best offer, which is $4,500 US. Here's the clincher. Only selling to upgrade to new machine. Are prices really this high now? Or have I become some cheap-ass bastard living in a cave in Tennessee? So that's the state of the pinball market down under Trevor, cue the outro Ian and Drew and you the listeners See you next week Take a look at me, I'm yesterday's hero Yesterday's hero That's all I'll be Take a look at me, I'm yesterday's hero Yesterday's hero It's all that I know Oh my gosh, Rodden is reading our minds. I've made fun of you in the past for a few of these. That was probably your best one yet. That was awesome. Super entertaining. Not only was it super entertaining and super fun and super Rodden, but it's exactly what Drew and I were talking about today. No, and we honestly hadn't listened to it until this moment. That is so funny that you're bitching about these fucking ads now where people are asking a shit ton of money for some beat-up games. And I love the home use only example, Rodden, because I've been seeing that a lot too. Home use only. Yeah. Home use only. I don't. Pay me top dollar. In general, how do you feel about that? Home use only? I mean, I get it. it's gotta be a company i don't care what you fucking say if it's not accompanied by detailed pictures sure i'm out sure you can't say home use only and take like a fuzzy little picture and be like trust me especially with me you know i guess with like newer games like maybe the newer sterns it's easy it's like yeah i bought this two years ago here's the receipt yeah you know this was only in my house but you know some of these games that are like from the 90s the dmds and they're like yeah home use only or you know it's like i don't know is that true how is that true you bought it yeah correct no no but i bought it from this guy right bought it from the original owner here's the other thing that pisses me off it's fucking 2020 right like every cell phone has a halfway decent camera in it now oh and some of those pictures how the fuck are you trying to sell a toy worth you know six thousand dollars plus and you can't get good photos like how is that even possible what were you thinking totally agree oh rod and see you got me all worked up brother got me all worked up yeah he is sweating over here got me all worked up i was laughing my ass off because i i i know what you're talking about but man at the same time i feel the pain do that that's some some bullshit so ron and thank you so much sir really appreciate the video and uh we agree with you that's not just an australian thing though that's going on all over the place that's why we had to talk about it yeah people are asking crazy money i mean like i said you can ask it you know and i'm not the price police like you know people are paying it great but you know if if you don't get any bites on it for like weeks at a time then you're like well maybe it's too much i mean even as far back as just a couple years ago when people were talking about restored right a restored machine that's another give me top dollar yeah but at the end of the day what did you do you may maybe cleaned it maybe replace the rubbers yep and then you're gonna label it restored you know with with the firepower and laser war for that matter i mean we stuck real money into it and it's like you know if we sell it you know and i'm not looking to make a bunch of money that's the thing it's like you know this is kind of what you know what i have in it and it doesn't even include my time that's just the you know the cost of the goods i'd even say with laser war the amount of time and money we put into it i still would be hesitant to call that like a fully restored game oh no absolutely not that's what i'm saying wouldn't do it no when i listed firepower i listed what i did i just said hey it's it's you know i i tore it all down which i did do you know i put the hard top on i rebuilt you know every mechanical underneath but you know no it's not a high-end restore it's not you know every new screw it's not you know it is what it is um you're right though that you know zach was talking about that too like he thought it'd be cool they had like a used car program like a certified restored certified you know that would be cool like you could have someone actually come look at it and be like yep this thing's certified they can grade it you know yeah yeah because that uh what chris at high-end pins well shit you know his stuff he does he puts like brand new screws in every you know thing so big difference oh yeah big thing from what we do oh yeah yeah we're just we're just polishing it up putting some powder coat on it make sure it works yeah make sure it works make sure it looks nice clear coat the play field and make it look you know presentable and durable yep that's gonna last it'll last long we're just we're just injecting new life into machines that's how i view it yeah i don't view it as yeah it's good for another 20 years now absolutely yeah laser war will be ready to rock and roll for another you know like you said 20 years and i got no hesitation about sure sure absolutely all right so we have a ton of mail a ton of mail and you guys keep sending us good stuff and we're gonna hold off because most of it's our go for it tmnt stern banner giveaway from flipping
