## Transcript

Welcome to Pinball Pursuit. I'm Dr. Seek and this is Jay. And today we're going to give our first thoughts, reactions to the new Transformers game, Transformers. More than meets the eye. Uh, we actually got invited to see this in person, but we didn't go. Life's busy. It's hard. We have jobs. We have a newborn. Well, he's not new anymore. He's like 7 months old. We have a baby. Um, we have a dog. It's just a little rough. So, we're going to make it to one of these press days. We're going to make it. We'll get there. Just Just wasn't going to be this one. Dang it. Which is sad. Which is sad because I think this one sounded like it was a lot of fun. I know. I was not initially intrigued by the theme, okay, but I think it sounds really fun. I think it looks really cool. I am very excited. I was texting Retro Ralph uh while he was there and he was like, "Dude, I wish you were here. This looks great." So, we're going to talk about our first impressions. Obviously, we haven't played it, but we've watched a whole bunch of stuff. All the trailers, the game play. Um I've listened to the interview with Loser Kid. I watched the gameplay that uh Elizabeth and Elliot did of the game. So, I think we could talk about it. I think so, too. Um, so let's start off with this is long rumored. People were worried it was going to be Shyabuff Transformers, which is the Transformers I know and I wouldn't necessarily be mad about. That was like prime time high school for me. Yeah. Like you you were in high school, I think, when that film came out. Yeah, I was. Yeah. Um I think that was I don't remember what year that movie came out, but it was like right after high school, I think, for me. Yeah. So, nostalgia. Um, they already made a Transformers game based on the Shiloh Buff. Did they? They did. And it did not do well. Most people don't like it. Oh, dang it. Sorry, Michael Bay. Uh, oh, Bae. Um, so many things to say about him. But yeah, so what's your connection? Obviously, the Shia Buff movie to Transformers. How many of those movies did you see? I think I saw one and two. And then I maybe saw Bumblebee. Maybe Bumblebee was actually pretty good. I can't remember. Travis Knight directed Mobile. He's doing the new He-Man. He's the creator of Leica Studios. He does all the weird uh Claymation stuff that I love. Oh, interesting. Yeah. So, Travis Knight, a little trivia for you. Uh what about you? Have you ever watched these cartoons at all? I never watched the Transformers cartoon. So, it aired in 1984. Okay. The year I was born. Was that when it started? That's when it started. Okay. Uh so, as a less than year, I did not watch the show. Okay. But but I did watch Beast Wars. Do you know Beast Wars? You ever Okay, Beast Wars was Okay, millennials out there, validate elder millennials. Yeah, validate me on this one. I am an elder millennial. Um, Beast Wars was in the '9s. It was a fully computer animated show. One of the first ever. Oh. And it featured Megatron. He would transform into a T-Rex cuz they were all like on a Isn't Megatron a regular transformer? Yeah. And then there was Optimus, not Prime, Optimus Primal. Oh my god. He turned into a gorilla. So all the good guys were birds and mammals. Okay. And all the bad guys were like dinosaurs and like bugs. Interesting. I mean, all scary in their own right. Yeah. Um, it was so fun. I loved that show. Um, I remember it very fondly. We had the Transformers from Beast Wars toys. We had an Optimus Primal. We had a Megatron. I think we had Star. I think it was Star. I forget his name. It was the Scorpion. Gotcha. So that is your connection to Transformers. That's my connection to Transformer. Not the original G1. Yeah. But like they're ubiquitous in pop culture. Okay. Everyone knows Transformers. Yes. Um it's just most people know a version of Transformer. A version of Transformer. This is very different. I remember I I say this like it was 5 years ago. I remember watching the trailer this morning. Oh yes. My first impression was very 80s. Oh yeah, variations. Just like, yep, that was my Whoa. But I do love that the cartoon they have like actual cartoon and they have so many clips. Um, they were talking it's like hundreds of clips they have from the show. I didn't know it was that many. Very cool. Um, I think it's cool that they got Frank Welker, who is the original voice of Starcream, Soundwave, and Megatron, who is like a prolific voice actor. I love voice acting. I've watched many a cartoon um documentary about like voice actors. He is so good. Okay. Um, and they got Peter Cohen, who's the original voice of Optimus Prime. He also did Optimus Prime for all the movies cuz his voice is so good. and so Optimus that it's hard to replace it. Iconic. It's iconic. When Chris Hemsworth was Optimus Prime in the new Chris Hemsworth. Yes. In the new Optimus or sorry, Transformers one animated flick, people were not happy that they didn't bring back Peter Cole, but he's playing like a young Optimus. So different. But yeah, that grally Autobots roll. I can't do it. But he's that one. It is so cool that they got those original voice actors to be in the game. Like kudos to CERN for getting all the assets. From what I heard in a couple of things that I've seen, Hasbro, who owns the Transformers license, was really good to work with. They were like giving them everything. Unlike, you know, the Pokémon Company who has not given anything new for Stern to do. They're still on the original code because they can't make an update. Interesting. And speaking of Pokemon, I find that it's really funny that they are like really tugging on the heartstrings of different generations in their childhoods. I mean, Pokemon spans many different generations. I mean, it's the cool thing right now as it is. But then right after that, you've got Transformers, which is really totally throwing it back to those8s kids. You have the '90s kids who watch the Pokemon show cartoon. Now you have 80s kids watching. I thought that was funny. It's It's quite the good play that they have going on there. So, we've talked about Transformers, the show. Mhm. What do you think about the game from what you've seen so far? So, at first I thought that the Dinobot looked very plain, but then I thought, is that Galvatron? I thought it was No, it's Dinobot. Well, he's a Dinobot, but his name is Oh, he has a name. Yeah. Um, but then I saw like a little cartoon clip. It was accurate. It's very accurate. Exactly. I like how the everything on there is accurate and it's like the Autobots. Autobots. Yep. They are very accurate as well. Very cool. The one with the cannon in the arm. That's a Decepticon. That's a Oh my goodness. So you have Autobots versus Decepticons. You clearly don't know your I clearly don't. I will. So Autobots are the good guys. Decepticons with the Beas. Okay, deal. Well, one of them has a cannon and gets shot out of it and it goes straight into a ramp which is really cool. The other one is the cassette dude. soundwave and he shoots out balls that are locked. So cool. Very cool. Um I like that you can earn coins. Oh yeah. To like do the little like challenges and everything. The challenges. And then they also had like tutorials. Yeah. They had little like how to do the skill shot and stuff. Yeah. And the coins they've announced will allow you to play some of those free modes at like an arcade after you've played a real game. You can play that as like a little bonus mode. A little bit of extra for your money. Okay. I want them to do training modes for all the machines. Wouldn't that be great? I mean, that's like the whole point of our channel. Please and thank you. What is that? Business machines. Just build training modes. I training modes. I love Yeah. Like how to do the short plunge and how to do the skill shot. Exactly. Very cool. Yeah. What did you think? Um, so I think I counted and there's like 14 unique shots on this game. Oh, that's crazy. Which is nuts because it's a three flipper. It's got that that flipper on the upper right can hit a lot of shots. It's got some crazy ball paths. It's got a VUK. It's got ramps. It's got so many things. Mhm. Um, it took me watching the gameplay to understand kind of the flow. Mhm. Man, am I excited to shoot this pinball machine. It looks I mean, people did not love John Rick and that was Elliot Elliot Eismin's first game. This is his second. Dom is very hard. The ramps and the shots are very tight. Just struggle. Um my brother loves that game. It's like one of his favorites cuz it taught him to be a better player. Yeah. Um cuz taught him to be a bit better player. And I haven't played it much with the new code. But this is like I don't know what you would call it. The redemption tour. This game by Ellie Elliot Eismin looks amazing. I mean he has a background as the engineer. He designed the time machine ramp on Rush. Oh, which I love. Yeah. Um, yeah. I think this is this looks great. Speaking of Elliot Elliot Eismin. Yes. I mean, I'm judging him by the way he looks and his age, but I feel like he's too young to have known Transformers, and I know for a fact that Elizabeth is. Oh, yes. She talked about in one of the interviews that she had to go watch it. Yeah, I WAS JUST GOING TO ASK you that. Like, did they just have to sit down and watch a million episodes of Transformers for their job? Yes, that's what they did. How would that be as your job? Oh, I've just got to, you know, watch some episodes of Chance. Got to get on Netflix. I'm just going to work from home today. What are you doing? Work. What's work? Watching an old cartoon show. Yes, I'm taking notes. They apparently had an inhouse person who like loves Transformers. Yeah. Who also was like, "Oh, you should do this. You should do this and you should do this." Okay. But yeah, they had to watch like the whole cuz I think the game covers the first two seasons of the show. Okay. And then they got permission halfway through to also include the movie. Oh, there's a movie. There's a movie. Okay. Interesting. Well, that was Yeah. one of my big questions. Yeah. Interesting. That's what they had to do. That is so funny. Right. Cuz I was like I had would have no idea where to even begin with that. No. Right. Watch. You have to watch the episodes. Um, speaking of Elizabeth, this is her first game as a lead code designer. Incredible, right? So cool. She's so young. Um, she's an incredible player. I've actually seen her comment as like a commentator on like tournaments and stuff. Oh, no way. That's She knows her stuff. She's really good. Um, love that. And she was like the I don't know what you would call it, like the secondary coder or like the support coder and rules person for both Jaws, which Okay. has great rules. Yes. And for Dungeons and Dragons, which has like the most unique rule set. Wow. We like Dungeons. We like Dungeons and Dragons. We're going to be reviewing it very soon. Um because we've had it. So, like, congrats to her. Yeah. Love that. And from what everything I'm seeing, it's nearly complete with the main game. They're putting in a bunch of challenges and stuff. Mhm. I think this game had a little extra time to cook. And I think it shows and I think it's going to be good. Awesome. Yeah. So, kudos to you guys, Elliot and Elizabeth. E squared. Equ what looks like a banger. So excited. Now, question for you. Okay. Premium versus pro versus LE. Where do you land? What are your thoughts? We always talk about is the premium worth it? Worth it. So, I mean obviously the LE you get like all the fun bells and whistles, but the cool sides, the sides with the cybertronian that apparently if you translate it means something different on each side. Stop it. That's nuts. Um, and they have like Decepticons on the right and Autobots on the left like in the armor and everything. And they have the Decepticon and the Auto, sorry, Decepticon Autobots in the speaker light panel. So, you have those symbols. So cool. Um, it's gorgeous. I just can't get over the price for a LE when even if I got a premium, I could put in some of those things for less than that cost. Yeah, but then you have to do the work and you have to like there are people that just want it out of the box. I will say Project Pinball, which is the charity raffle. Oh, that's right. I love Project Pinball. I do love Project. I think they do a good job. I've yet to win. Someday. I keep on telling him once I won an iPad in a raffle. So, now I'm like someday you can win something, too. Um, I did enter the Ellie Project Painball raffle. So, someday you might be able to win something, too. I have a.5% chance of winning that. Here we go. Let's go. Um, I mean, it's gorgeous. I just don't see myself spending the money on Ellie. Okay, tell me the price difference between an Ellie and a Premium. I think an LE is basically 13,000. Okay. Premium is 10 and then pro is eight. Seven. So, the difference on the pro versus premium, right? On the on the premium on the pro and the premium and the it's all the same shots. Mhm. So, the shots are all the same. Does not change. You're not getting a lesser game in that way. And I think that's smart of Stern to do. What you don't get is the cassette ball lock with soundwave, which is cool. Which is super cool. He's just a flat plastic. Oh, you don't get the sculpted Dinobot. You just get a flat plastic. Oh, dang. Even though I said he was playing, he's still cool. He's so cool. And Megatron, he's still in the game. He doesn't move and he doesn't shoot balls out of his cannon. That's too bad. And I like how they both like they still like shift side to side. Yeah. Like he fully moves around and stuff. Um those are the only differences. So like gameplaywise you're fine. You're fine with a pro. But cool thing cool factor-wise cool factor, you know? Like I don't know. For me, I'd have to play it. But I'm such a sucker for the cool factor. I mean, it makes a difference. Like, I saw a Godzilla pro for the first time at Texas Pinball Festival and I was like, but that changes the game play. Oh, it does because you don't get the ramps that switched where they go to when the building collapses. And the the rotation, you get different shots technically. Yeah. But still, even just the way that it looked, I was like, this isn't as cool. It's not as cool. This is not as cool. I get it. It's not as cool. So maybe that's what some people say about the LE, but you want to do it all yourself. Well, I don't mind. I just don't mind doing all myself. There we go. That's I think the Ellies are going to sell out this week. That's amazing. What's today? Friday. Yeah, I think they're going to sell out. I would not be surprised. People are hyped on this game. Yeah, love that. Everything I'm seeing is that they're hyped. Um, what do you think? Pro versus Premium versus? I was asking you because I didn't know. Uh, that's fair. That's fair. Uh, I do think the Ellie looks really cool. Like I said, I always am a sucker for the little cutout. Yeah, the lights the light speakers always look really cool. I like it. I don't think they did on this one when they do the special thing on the um the puller. Yep. I think it's coming later. They haven't announced. They said that they're going to get accessories out faster. Gotcha. My guess because Hasbro was really good to work with. Oh, like a topper. Uh, yeah, topper. Um, cheater rod thing. Yeah. Um, it would be cool if the topper transformed. Oh, that would be nuts. People are complaining that the game doesn't have any transform. Do you understand that? That would take a lot. Well, so there's this big Okay. Have you have I did that about the big controversy? I don't think so. There's some footage you can see and some pictures where it looks like Optimus Prime, who stands pretty tall, is like damned. Oh. And people are assuming that until very recently, yeah, he actually did transform. Stop. That would be very cool. I would be very impressed. I do not blame them for not having that. That's got to be so hard to have it like transform and just like not break. Do you think that they would only put that in an LE? Maybe if they were going to do it. Of course. I think they would still do the premium. That would push people to get those LE. That would be crazy. Oh, I know. I don't think they're going to need to push those is the thing. That's true. But still, people like to be like the only ones with hats on certain things. Oh, that would be think is dumb. But so I he did I think he transformed until very recently. That would be nice. Which is too bad. Like but I get it. But they got to do what's best for the game. Yeah. And if what's best for the game is making a more reliable game. Yeah. That's the way they should go. Yep. Like totally. Cuz I don't think it was a cost thing. I think it was a reliability thing. If people have games that are breaking all the time, people are going to be mad. But if you just have a regular one standing in the back there and people don't know the difference clams, that's what I think very it's okay. Um, so yeah, we're very excited to get this one in the house. Um, except for the fact that there are very iconic songs, two of them, and all the pinball songs and certain callouts get stuck in my head all the time. All the time. So more than meets the eye. That and the the touch. Oh, yes. From the movie. What do you know about the Transformers movie? I know nothing. I know. Shia Labuff. That's not the Transformer. That is all I know. Okay. You want to hear some funny facts about the Transformers movie? For those that don't know, I find the Transformers movie so funny. Number one, uh they wanted to sell more toys and they realized that people of the age had all the original cast. Mhm. So 10 minutes into the film, they decided to kill off all the major characters and reintroduce new ones just to sell more toys. Is that where Beast Wars came from? No, Beast Wars was like '90s. Did you see the movie when it first came out? When did you see the movie? When did I see the Transformers cartoon movie? Yeah. Oh, I have no idea when I saw it, but I've seen it as like a child though. Yeah, um so that's one thing. Get like like Optimus Prime dies in the first 10 minutes and I think kids were traumatized cuz it's not it's not like a subtle death. Oh my god. He like disintegrates into gray. It's bad. Um, and then I think it's his last performance. Orson Wells, Citizen Kain, one of the famous most famous actors of all time was the voice of oh, I forget the name of the robot, but the real big evil robot baddy of the game of this movie. Big evil robot baddy who was like a planet. Oh my gosh. Oh, it was Mars. Cybertron. No, that's where they're from. Oh. Uh, I don't know. I do. Okay. I don't remember the name. I'm going to put it here. Orson Wells was one of the most famous actors of all time. It was like his last role was Transformers the movie. Go figure. Transformers. How would you like to have the iconography he has and then your last movie be Transformers the movie? The cartoon. Crazy. Oh, so funny. So, yeah. I'm excited for this one. I'm excited. I'm excited to play it. Hopefully, one will drop somewhere near us. Man, so fast. I feel like they've been pumping out Pokemon really fast and they still have such a backlog for Pokemon which is great. Yes. People are like waiting on Pokemons. I swear. So, when are they going to have time and opportunity to get Transformers? I think they're going to make Transformers all of June. The production schedule apparently is location pros, which is smart. Get them on location, get people playing them. Then they'll do premiums. Then they'll do pros or sorry, then they'll do less. again. So crazy. Um, I'm excited for this one. I'm sorry I couldn't be there. We're very excited. Congratulations again to Elliot and Elizabeth. Very cool. Looks so cool. We're very excited for you guys. Very excited to get our hands on it. We will let you know once we play it. Yeah. And until then, keep whipping. I'm so sorry for trying to hold me for so long. My nose has been so I'm so sorry. That's the blooper people. I feel like half the video I've been like, this is all the blooper. Okay, we're better now. Allergy season.
