## Transcript

Welcome to Pinball Pursuit, one couple's journey to finding their forever pinball machine. I'm Mrs. J. And I'm Dr. C. Today we're going to have a little chitty chat. we're going to talk about some themes that we would love to see in the year 2025. I'm so excited for this one. I'm excited for this one. So we're going to do something a little bit different with this. We each have decided on five machines that we'd like to see in five different categories. So five machines each. Five for me, five for Dr. C. Exactly. So our categories are our top one that we want to see that's rumored, our top one from a movie or a show, our top one from a musical band, our top it's never gonna happen theme yeah which you know we can dream i'm sad because mine's good mine's my i think mine's better i'm excited to hear yours um and then we both decided we were gonna pitch a original theme nothing movie or tv based or anything just just completely og just completely og just just kind of put it out there because those are kind of fun too so uh let's get started let's start with our rumored ones okay you go first you want me to go first yeah why don't to go first. All right. So right now there's a rumor out there that Stern might have the Pokemon license. Oh, Pokemon. I can't tell you how excited I am for this. I think that Pokemon would make an incredible thing. You could do so many things. I can just see a play field that has different gyms or like iconic locations from the original Pokemon game. Maybe each gym is represented in a different shot, like a ramp or a bash toy that's like the rock gym. All the different things you could do there. I think, I mean, you have to have a Mewtwo with like a magnet that he could like push and pull. That would be cool. That would be cool. And all the modes are different. Trainer battles or gym battles. You like get to start the game and pick your starter Pokemon. Oh. Who would you pick? Oh, I never really played Pokemon as a child. I remember it became big in the fourth grade. I know Charizard. Yeah, you could have Charizard. I also know there's an Eevee. I know very few Pokemon. But I think it would be really cool. I like the concept. And I think with Insider Connected, they could do so many cool things. Yeah. You could catch all 150 Pokemon throughout your journey. Yeah. And it would keep track of the ones you've gotten. I think you could do some modes are harder based on which Pokemon you chose. So if you chose Squirtle as your starter Pokemon and you went to the Fire Gym, it'd be really easy. but if you went to the grass gym, it'd be really hard. I think you could do so many things, and you could keep track of where you are and fill out your Pokedex via Insider Connected, and I think that would be just so cool. And I just love that Pokemon, at least to me in our generation, feels like such a timeless theme. Like I said, I remember Pokemon from the fourth grade, but I still feel like it's relevant today, and I know plenty of people that bought up the new Pokemon game when it came out on the Switch and things. It's like, it's still very relevant today. Oh, it's the number one highest grossing franchise of all time. That's nuts. Higher than Marvel. Really? Oh, yeah. I didn't know that. No one has made more money than Pokemon. That's crazy. It is crazy. And one last thing. If it ever gets done, they have to put the OG themes on. Pokemon! Gotta catch them all. Because I want to be the very best. Like no one ever was. I'm assuming that's a Pokemon theme. That is from the quote. all right so now you what's your top rumored one that you'd love to see okay this was a hard one for me but i i would really be excited about this one it's a spooky rumor uh but spongebob spongebob squarepants spongebob squarepants i think people may disqualify this one just because of the theme song alone i think the theme song would be played a lot and parents might go a playfield. There's like everybody's individual houses. You've got SpongeBob's house, the pineapple, you've got Sandy's bubble, you've got Patrick's rock, you've got the little tiki head where Squidward lives. So many things you could do on the playfield. And then you've got things like the Krusty Krab. You've got Mrs. Puff's boating school, jellyfish fields, rock bottom. There are so many different fun themes that you could pull into this. And speaking of like the whole world under glass yeah having the under the sea under yes that would be fun exactly i feel like i've been thinking through different modes that you could do on these machines um you could do like the crusty crab rush hour you know the lunch rush maybe um hitting the balls in different places and you're trying to you know fix different things in the back of the kitchen together the crabby patty in the correct order by hitting shots that'd be fun and then i also think boating school would be fun you have to hit certain ramps and maybe avoid other things it's like you're in driver's ed again you know and then i'm thinking of other bash toys you could have mr crab you could have plankton you have to have it has to be plankton exactly i think so too and so i just feel like there's so much you could do with spongebob and again it's kind of one of those for better for worse iconic themes that everybody knows oh yeah oh yeah and i think on location like in an arcade Yeah I think people would put quarters in that Oh yeah I would definitely play I love it So that my rumored theme Okay well let move on to movie and show The movie or show theme that we would love to see Perfect. You mind if I go first again? You go first. Okay, so movie or show, this was on the Stern Poll that they sent out at the end of last year. Oh, that survey, yeah. Yeah, the survey they did. It was Simpsons Treehouse of Horror. Oh, this is right up your alley. I grew up a Simpsons fan. My dad went to high school with the voice of Bart Simpson. That's right. She was my pen pal for a little bit. I actually wrote letters back and forth to Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart. That is so funny. It's so fun. I have autographed pictures of her in the house and everything. I love The Simpsons. I love the Simpsons pinball party, the game that's iconic in the pinball world. But I would love a new one. And I think that Treehouse of Horror would be so much fun. You could have each mode be based off of different episodes or sections of Treehouse of Horror skits. You'd have to have Kang and Kodos, the aliens, on the play field. Maybe an evil Krusty doll that grabs the ball. Oh, creepy. You could have a vertical upkick that's like the Treehouse, or even better, a vertical upkick time travel toaster. I think it would be so much fun. I think call-outs of the Simpsons, like, screaming or saying weird things from the episodes would be hilarious. You would have to have some sort of mode where Groundskeeper Willie just gets killed every single time by a shot that you do, like he does in one of the episodes. The possibilities are endless. There's been so many. How many episodes are there of Treehouse of Horrors? Well, I mean, Treehouse of Horrors debuted in season two of The Simpsons, and they're on season 35, 36. And each season... Each year. Each season, they do a different one. Yeah, there's a lot of content. And each Treehouse of Horror episode has between three and four different segments. So I would obviously want the Golden Age ones represented. Yeah. Not so much a lot of the newer ones. But there's so much you could do there. I think it would be a way fun thing. I love it. Fun. Okay, what is yours? Okay, my movie or show. Now, this is one that you may not know as much about. And I didn't know much about Treehouse of Horrors either because you have not seen all of these episodes. Mine is The Office. The Office Pinball? The Office. I would love to see an Office Pinball machine. And let me go through all of the different things we could have. First, we're going to talk about the play field. These are things that I would have to have on there. There's going to need to be a World's Best Boss Mug, clearly. A Dundee Award. Okay, yeah, I can see you had to have a Dundee. I would love to see a section that is Dwight's Beat Farm. Okay, okay. Yep, yep. And some of Pam's artwork on there. I think that that would be a nice touch. Like on the side cabinet, maybe? Yes, maybe on the side cabinet. You know, who knows? Sprinkled throughout. So those are the things that I would need to see. Another thing that I really need to see, I don't know if it would need to be like artwork per se. It could be worked into maybe a spinner or maybe a bash toy. Kevin's chili. Oh, like a spinner where it's like him holding it and then him spilling it. Exactly, exactly. As the two different sides of the spinner. Yes, I need Kevin's chili somewhere in there. And then again, I was thinking through different modes that they could go through. Fire drill came off. I have seen that episode. That would be a funny one. That needs to be in there. Pretzel day. They need to incorporate that somehow. I was thinking through different wizard modes. okay so wizard modes they could one of the wizard modes mini or the major one could be office olympics so have you seen that episode i don't think i've seen that episode okay well in this wizard mode you would need to complete certain challenges to win the gold medal which they make out of a you'll play yogurt um things like flunkerton dunderball and balancing the egg on the spoon as you race like there could be different things that you need to accomplish those the games that they play in Office Olympics. Okay, okay. And then I think the final wizard mode, ultimate, you know, showdown would be Save the Branch. You have to save Dr. Mifflin from being shut down, things like that. And then, of course, I was also thinking of iconic quotes that could be call-outs. Yeah. You know, of course, you're going to have the theme song in the background, but the call-outs... That's what she said. That's what she said. That's number one. Gotta have it. Obviously, I declare bankruptcy. That's great. Bears beats Battlestar Galactica. Okay. A little known one from Dwight that I love is I am faster than 80% of snakes. Just so many quotes you could loop into this. I think it would be so fun. I just think it is one of those classic TV shows that everybody either knows or has watched over and over and over again. And I love it. It would probably do well. I don't know how well it works for pinball, but it's a fun idea. I mean, you could have the Michael Scott bobblehead be like a bash toy or something. That would be good. No, I'm convinced. I think that one may be my favorite on my list of five. I'm convinced that that's a good one. That's high up there. Either that or my never going to happen, which makes me really sad because it's never going to happen. All right. Let's do bands. Do you want to go for some bands? Yeah, I do. Okay. This band I grew up listening to. It's definitely from my parents' generation, but I've grown a love for it as well. Okay. Dr. C and I actually saw them play live at one point. Oh, I know who it is now. Yes, you do. It was on the 4th of July a few years ago. But that band is Journey. Classic. Iconic. So many big hits. Like, I'm trying to think through, you know, the songs that they would have to choose from. There's so many good ones. So many. So many clear and obvious ones. And there some deep cut ones that would be fun too Clearly on the board you going to need a Scarab Beetle Oh yeah That iconic for them Exactly You gonna need that This is a good thought that I had So one of the ramps I want it to be a separate ways ramp, you know, throwback to the song. I want there to be a ramp that it goes up and it forks to the left and to the right and it'll always be default maybe to the right, but if you want it to go to the left you have to hold down the left flipper and it would go to the left. Oh, like divert it? Exactly! like a train set or something. So that would be my separate ways ramp. Things like Don't Stop Believin' Multiball. That would be great. You know, I mean classic song. Just so many songs you can include. The Final Wizard Mode could be called The Final Journey. Oh, that's a fun name. And maybe this is their last tour, and you are either A, trying to get tickets to the last journey tour, or you are helping them play through their final show. Yeah, yeah. Things like that. I would love listening to the music of a Journey pinball machine. We've got Foo Fighters with us right now, and I just love picking through the songs. I'm singing the songs all the time. I would love a Foo Fighters Journey. That's a great idea. I think for the song Lights, they could dim the lights in the game. Oh, when the lights go down. Yeah, when the lights go down, and then you build up the lights as they go up. Yes. Anyway, I think that's a good one. That's a fun one. Thank you. I like that. mine this one was hard for me because my like favorite bands have pinball machines already rush and beatles and beatles you're right machines for both my other favorite bands are like pink floyd and as much as i love pink floyd and a lot of people are gonna hate me for this i don't think their music is really right for a pinball machine it's not very pinball psychedelic rock is kind of mellow with some high speed parts, but it's a lot of mellow stuff. Yeah. So I don't know that it works. So my, my other thought was Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac. I love Fleetwood Mac. It's actually the very first concert I went to in 1998. I did not know this. Was Fleetwood Mac's reunion tour. My parents took me for my birthday because it was the day after my birthday. and I think Fitwood Mac could do really well they could make it kind of renaissance themed because that's kind of what some of their artwork has been I think that would be really fun I think like a Tusk multiball with the drums coming in and a shaking motor would be really really cool and I just want to say to somebody that I've heard rumors that Rumors is coming to Pinball because that's the name of their best album that's funny that's good So I haven't thought through it as much as you have for Journey, but I think that their music would be good for a pinball machine. Yeah, love it. So that's my music pick. There we go. Now we're going to pitch our Never Gonna Happen. Can I go first? You can go first. And I think you probably are going to guess. I already know what it is. You already know what it is. This is my favorite childhood movie. My family grew up watching this movie. That's what I thought it was going to be. Yep, exactly. But it's Never Gonna Happen. Pure 90s. Do you guys remember Heavyweights with Ben Stiller? Yep. They go to Camp Hope. it's the fat kids camp uh this crazy ben stiller uh guy comes in takes over the camp and just tony and turns everything around from what they've known and loved um i just love the idea of it the play field is going to be very summer camp chic um there's of course going to be a tony perkus in there there's going to be camp cabins there's going to be a go-kart track if you've seen the movie you you know what all of these mean um i think on the flippers or the bumpers it could be fun to have either like canoes or oars or exercise equipment okay you know um the back you'd have to have like the side to side yes slidey thing for like maybe some side shots or some orbits like slide ramps or slide orbits oh i love it uh the bash toy has to be tony perkus i think just a big tony perkus head where he's got like the headband and like his crazy there. He has so many iconic lines if you hit him. Things like, do it to it, Lars, and please put your fat finger down. Or, attention campers, lunch has been canceled due to lack of hustle. Deal with it. Like so many good lines. There are other cool things you could put in there, like if you remember the scene where the campers come in and they start unloading all of their candy. Oh yeah, they'll hide all their candy. Yeah, and then they also have a tree stump in the woods where they handle or hide all of their candy and food and stuff. So, like, if they had a tree stump and you hit it enough times, then you'd get, like, a shit-munk download multiball or a candy award, something like that. And then other fun modes you could work through, the Apache Relay, that's the big thing. That's the ending, you know, thing that they have to overcome. Go-kart race multiball. Yep. There's, you know, you could collect camp badges. And then the ultimate wizard mode has to be Defeat Tony. Yeah, you got to defeat Tony Perkis. Yep. Hit all of your shots, overthrow Tony Perkis, and get back Camp Hope. This is funny because I know that you love this movie. Yes, I love it. Heavyweights is interesting because despite being kind of a little-known Disney movie, it has some big-name people in it. It does. Like Ben Stiller. Yeah. Before Ben Stiller was big and famous. Yeah, that's true. His dad is in it. Yep. You got Paul Feig who directed Bridesmaids and is like a big Hollywood guy now is in it You got Kenan Thompson is one of the fat kids as a kid And I swear there like so many people that moved on to go into Mighty Ducks Yes It was the precursor to Mighty Ducks Exactly. For sure. Yep. Oh, Mighty Ducks. That might be. That's kind of a fun one. That's a fun one. We should think about that. Maybe we'll put that on the list next year. Yeah. I think Mighty Ducks would be a fun one. Oh, I love that. Yeah. That's, Heavyweights is a very fun movie. Well, my never gonna happen a show that i grew up loving as a child pb's playhouse oh my goodness i think a pb's place now it's too bad that paul rubens passed away but i think a pb's playhouse or like a pb's big adventure pinball machine would be iconic you could have the different furniture with all the different faces like talk to you when you hit them inside of the playfield uh you could have his iconic bike from the movie as like you know an ultimate mode you could have secret word of the day multiball and you have to like find it in the game by hitting different shots and then it'll be like ah and have a big multiball based on finding the secret word of the day i think it would be so much fun and it's never gonna happen never gonna happen yeah never gonna happen it's not popular enough i think people would think it was weird unless you were a kid at a very specific age range i don't think anyone even knows that pb herman had a kid's television show yeah because i think that was before my time yeah and i'm only a couple years older than you i just remember thinking peewee was weird yeah that was all yeah so i don't think this makes me sad i'm sorry babe i know how much you love peewee i do love peewee's big adventure is like a top tier movie for me really i love it tim burton's first film his directorial debut i didn't know peewee was tim burton it was his directorial debut okay that is news to me uh and we haven't you haven't seen it No, I never have. We need to watch it. I feel like it's weird. I don't know. It is, but it's so fun. And that's why it scares me. It's so much fun. Okay, and last but not least, we're going to do our OG. OG theme. OG theme. Can I go first? Yeah, you got it. OG theme. Listen to me out here. I think this would be really cool. It's just a mad scientist slayer. And this fits perfectly with you. I am a bit of a mad scientist myself. If you ever wondered about the doctor thing, I'm a scientist. But I think that would be so much fun. You could have the play field be, like, an underground secret lair laboratory. Okay. With, like, you know, beakers and stuff with different, like, lights and tubes and electrodes. You could have more generic, like, monsters that are down there that the mad scientist has created. Okay. Either you're, like, trying to stop him or you've been hired as his assistant. Oh. And you have to help him, like, get things organized in his mad scientist lair. I think that would be super fun. You could have like lab explosion or chemical reaction multiballs. You could have a centrifuge magnet toy on the play field. Oh, does it spin? That it would spin the ball. I think that would be fun. I think you could do DNA double helix loops. Oh, that's cool. Right? I like that. So you hit it on one side, hit it the other, and they kind of go together and go to the flippers. I think that would be cool looking. Love that. So that's my pitch for an OG theme, Mad Scientist Lair thing. Mad Scientist Lair. I love it. Okay, you ready for mine? I'm ready for yours. Now, picture this. It's a Las Vegas-themed machine. Okay. But heist. Okay, so basically it's Ocean's Eleven. Basically Ocean's Eleven without being Ocean's Eleven. Or it could be Ocean's Eleven. Either way. It can't be Ocean's Eleven. It has to be OG. I know. Okay, it's not Ocean's Eleven. but I want it to be Vegas-y because I think Vegas is really cool. We were just there not too long ago. There's a lot you can do with the lights, with the strip, with slot machines, with all sorts of stuff. But I also want you to have to go in and steal something without getting caught. I think that that's really fun. So the lights, of course, have to be crazy. There are all sorts of things you can do with bash toys, from a getaway car to, you know, there has to be a vault in there somewhere. Oh, that would be fun to bash into a vault or something like that.
