## Analysis

Don shares excitement about Spooky's dual release of Looney Tunes and Texas Chainsaw Massacre pinball machines, initially expecting TCM to dominate but finding community enthusiasm shifting toward Looney Tunes due to broader appeal and theme integration. He discusses layout mechanics, playfield design quality, and confirms attending an on-site play session in Benton, Wisconsin. Additionally, he reviews a Big Lebowski prototype topper from Electric Playground and promotes custom acrylic art blades from Johan Calamon.

Initial skepticism about dual-release strategy is reversed by positive assessment. Community engagement sentiment is warm regarding manufacturers, aftermarket vendors, and podcast supporters. Only minor negatives: acknowledgment of TCM's limited mainstream appeal and brief confusion regarding custom art blade order fulfillment.

### Signals

- **[business_signal]** Electric Playground Big Lebowski topper sold out pre-orders (limited to 100 units); backup interest list created; unlimited wall-accent version planned at lower price point (confidence: high) — Don reports: 'they are sold out on their pre orders' and 'they did tell me that they are having an interest list as a backup... unlimited version of this topper as a wall accent that's a few hundred dollars cheaper'
- **[community_signal]** Don scheduled for on-site play-test with both games at Spooky facility; promised detailed reviews within 24 hours with livestream capability pending license approval (confidence: high) — Direct statement: 'I am completely excited... - **[design_philosophy]** Spooky prioritizes theme integration with functional design; TCM corpse-in-freezer mechanism potentially inspired by community modding (Medicinal Mod's crypt pop-up) suggesting design borrowing from aftermarket ecosystem (confidence: medium) — Don notes similarity to existing mod and observes: 'the theme integration on the TCM version is much better than what they did with the Looney Tunes' while praising layout flow choices
- **[market_signal]** TCM's appeal limited to passionate niche audiences (adult venues, specialty arcades like Electric Bat) while Looney Tunes targets mainstream locations (bars, family arcades, Dave & Buster's equivalent) due to theme maturity (confidence: high) — Don analyzes: 'you don't want this in your chucky cheese you may not even want this in your dave and Busters, but you're going to want it at your electric bat arcade' vs. Looney Tunes mainstream appeal
- **[market_signal]** Looney Tunes expected to outsell TCM despite TCM being traditionally more sought horror IP, driven by cross-generational license power and household viability (confidence: medium) — Don predicts: 'if one of these two games were to sell out in the next week i think it's kind of this one' based on observed community preference shift and license strength comparable to Toy Story 4
- **[personnel_signal]** Christopher Franchi transitioned from Stern to Spooky and contributed substantially to TCM art package (approximately 50% of plastics, playfield touches, bezel magnet) (confidence: high) — Direct conversation report: 'he actually was called into actually assist uh on the art package too for this uh he uh did some of the plastics he said he did about half the plastics'
- **[product_strategy]** Dual-release strategy enables collector flexibility through swap/redress option; same layout allows gameplay familiarity while distinct themes serve different aesthetic/household preferences (confidence: medium) — Don proposes: 'you could own a looney tunes for a year or so... you could actually swap it for this one and almost get like a full redress'
- **[product_concern]** Spooky demonstrates manufacturing quality elevation including powder-coated armor/ramps, efficient playfield space utilization, and integrated trough lighting upgrades (confidence: high) — Don observes: 'There's no area that looks like it's wasted space' and notes powder coating in 'illusion cherry' finish, apron lights, and theme-integrated mechanisms packed throughout
- **[sentiment_shift]** Don's personal purchase preference reversed from TCM to Looney Tunes within ~24 hours post-announcement as community enthusiasm demonstrated broader appeal (confidence: high) — Initial statement: 'obviously Texas chainsaw massacre is going to be the most popular game' vs. later: 'if I was putting down the money right now and committing to one, I think it actually go Looney Tunes'

## Transcript

so don's pinball podcast is coming back at you we had two games dropped on us like not even in the last 48 hours that is absolutely nuts i'm gonna talk about that i couldn't hold it back man i couldn't hold it back we're going to talk about uh my initial impressions and things because uh this has all been sinking in and changing it seems like hour by hour today so let's lead off with that okay so we got looney tunes and we got texas chainsaw massacre teased to us revealed to us uh, trailer to us and now feature read it to us. So if you haven't checked it out this morning, the Texas chainsaw massacre featurette came out. Looney tunes came out and launched last night on the straight down the middle channel. They're both about 20 minutes and they just give like such a much more robust, um, outlook on both of these games. So initially my thoughts were, well, obviously Texas chainsaw massacre is going to be the most popular game. This has been one that people have been asking for. It's a beloved property. It's like at the level of Friday, 13th Freddie, all that business. Um, And then Looney Tunes was like, okay, well, maybe this is like their Ultraman, right? This is the more family-friendly one, something you can put out of the arcade or whatever. But then come to find out, what I'm hearing more from people as we discuss this, as we talk about it, the Looney Tunes theme really seems to be the one that's on fire. Even people have remarked that they're fans of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, horror films in general, Halloween walkthroughs and things, and they're thinking, yeah, but the thing is just grotesque and disgusting looking. I don't think I could bring it into my house. It looks fantastic, but I don't know if that theme would go long-term in my household. Maybe it's too brutal for home. Definitely for most mainstream arcades, it would probably be a bit off-putting. It's pretty mature, even more so than Walking Dead, really. And that's a grotesque, disgusting-looking game. I say that with love. It's fantastic, as it should be. But Looney Tunes is really seeming like it's the one with the legs. now we've seen how the the monetary performance of a game like toy story 4 has been doing on location the layout wasn't the most inspired the cost was quite high twice as much as the stern pro almost at release which put off a lot of people but we kept hearing you know what this game is earning on location everybody knows toy story that's a that's the power of a license right if this machine was just you know food truck but had that same layout nobody would care nobody would care but they come up there and they put dollars in machines because it's toy story even if it's toy story 4 it's still earning great and i think looney tunes man this is like a home run this isn't you know this isn't uh you know warner brothers lunatics like that that early 2000s trying to rebrand make all the looney tunes characters edgy and it just flopped on its face this is OG Looney Tunes 1940s problematic back in its day view it in the context with which it was made holy crap this is like the OG Looney Tunes man so this is going to have cross you know cross-generational appeal um you know old people in bars are going to want to play this old people I'm talking about me um you know but also you know families young kids are going to want to go play this you know and like flip the buttons and stuff and watch Porky Pig run around and you know hit the hit the plunger on the hell box with wiley coyote and all that business right so it seems to me just over the last day or so there's been uh much more enthusiasm for the looney tunes game than texas chainsaw massacre and initially i'm like tcm if i get one that's got to be my theme it's brutal it's adult the armor looks like it could saw your leg off like that's where i gotta go but now you know i'm like you know what i think looney tunes might actually be the way that i go it's not what I thought was going to happen at release when these things were rumored. But man, the more I look at this and especially, especially watching that featurette, you know, as they kind of take you through it. So looking over some of the pictures of the play field, if we want to talk about layout, I think we can kind of cover that with both machines because they do share the same layout. The major mechanisms work similarly as well. It's a four ramp game. There's no big upper play field. There's an upper area where balls are locked. The theme integration on the TCM version is much better than what they did with the Looney Tunes. Although, up at the cliff with the desert in the background there, I like that. I would like to see someone do a sculpted mod for that little slidey... That must be the bookcase, right? That little slidey bit back there, the diverter that puts the balls under different holes. That'd be nice to see that as a 3D printed or sculpted mold of an actual desert scape with Roadrunner up there on the back. I think that'd be cool. The Taz sculpture's cool. What I like, though, is the four ramps that they have. All of them go to the habit trails, you know, to these wire forms, and they are repeatable. And there's a lot of shots, and this is where the ingenuity level, where Spooky's leveled up, they thought about the shots that you make and how they feed back to flippers to allow that flow to continue, which you get a great sense in watching the featurettes. So go check those out if you haven't checked them out. You know, I like how the little post lock behind the Wile E. Coyote with his little hell box there, that reminds me of Labyrinth right The little L Worm guy You can lock a ball back there in the same spot And it looks like you can put a ball back there and leave it and then hit the stand target to release it later And so there some fun there There's this little Newton ball, too, that I think most people have kind of glossed over. I didn't really notice it until I watched the featurette. But towards that lower right ramp, there's a 45-degree angle Newton ball that's back there. So kinetic satisfaction galore. I texted Spooky Luke, and I'm like, you guys, or I think I posted on Facebook, You guys got a theme-integrated game that looks like it actually has flow, and it's also loaded with mechanisms. Isn't that everything we would ask for with a game? A compelling theme, a shootable layout, and mechanisms, so we can see where all the money's going. Looking at this thing, it's packed side to side. There's no area that looks like it's wasted space, and there's no area that looks like it's going to be kind of a bastard of a shot to try to get, even. and there's that magnet before that bash door i'm looking at looney tunes right now so it's kind of what i'm focusing on um i dig the art blades i like this uh it's probably a 3d printed uh screw auger mechanism for the acme rocket but what's really going to put this game over the top is when you're playing it the call outs the scenes on the lcd screen the modes and how those play i will be able to comment on those about 24 hours from now when i get back from benton Wisconsin because your boy has been invited down on site to go play both of these games tomorrow holy garbage I am completely excited I've got a shift tonight I've got to go work I'm gonna work all night and I'm gonna howl butt down to Benton and play games and then I'll do a podcast give my reviews of and like what the first plays were like and and and what these modes are like and what kind of assets um they're you know how they're integrated because that's really what I'm looking forward to so man Looney Tunes just kind of came from behind and I think might be you know if one of these two games were to sell out in the next week i think it's kind of this one and i thought the market was super soft right now but i think people were kind of like myself kind of holding back some of their funds because they know something cool is coming out on the horizon and this looks to be a repeat on what spooky did last year when they got out in front of everybody for those march releases right even in front of stern in front of galactic tank force in front of ninja eclipse even and jumped out there and started taking non-refundable deposits for this um let's pop over to uh tcm and man what a different theme i mean the layout is the same right so but just going from the colorful acme warehouse of looney tunes with its inserts and its colorful characters and everything popping over to tcm and it's like completely different though the plastics are all like the same size in the same place but like thematically it is such a departure um you know halloween and ultraman uh had this to a degree but they were still you could tell they were the same game this thing just looks so different and i can't wait to to comment on what we can't see in the photos and that is the gameplay that is the code that is the call outs and what happened when they had two completely separate teams working on this i was just talking to my my friend in yours christopher franchi good friend of the show gives warm hugs and handshakes um he actually was called into actually assist uh on the art package too for this uh he uh did some of the plastics he said he did about half the plastics i don't know if That means just like the bottom half of it or, you know, half the plastics on the games he was involved with. He did touches up on the play field. And I think there was some Kevin Hart. What else did he say he did? I want to make sure I get it right. Play field touches. Oh, the bezel magnet for the speaker panel. He said he did that one. I wonder if he meant the apron. He said speaker, I believe. But there's franchise touch in this game. And I was being kind of not conceited, but what do they call it? Facetious. And I'm like, this will increase the value of the game by 3% to 5% for entry. I mean, just your touch alone. But, you know, it'll add that pedigree to it. So this is just, you know, if you were to chart out Spooky's games, I mean, they have a clear upward trajectory. Scooby has been playing fine for me after some initial issues, which got sorted. They accepted graciously the feedback from, you know, the problems with the auto launch. And so Spooky Luke's told me he's sawn to it and has rectified all of that. because they're going for an auto-launch again with these two games. And so I'll be able to comment on that here pretty soon. But, my God, there's a lady in a freezer that pops up on that wire form. I wonder if that may have been inspired by Medicinal Mod's crypt pop-up mod that he put in Elvira House of Horrors. Regardless, if you're going to draw from somewhere, that's a great place to do it. It could be completely serendipitous, but either way, this is fantastic. The mechanism looks like it works a little different. um you don't have that auto plunger with wiley coyote in the uh the the texas chainsaw massacre but you got you got a corpse in a freezer and uh for that we are thankful so this is a game that's definitely not for everybody uh this is like when people tell me i love iron maiden's layout but i just i don't like the music so i can't have the game um this layout looks fantastic but there this is going to be too brutal for a lot of households for sure it's going to be too brutal for some locations you don't want this in your chucky cheese you may not even want this in your dave and Busters, but you're going to want it at your electric bat arcade So I think the people the passion level is going to be more divided for TCM I think The people that like this game are really really desperately going to like this game And the people that don't are going to be just turned off and not even going to want to look at it because it's frankly terrifying. But Looney Tunes is going to be more, everybody's going to like it. It's not probably going to offend anybody. Well, you can never tell nowadays, but certainly it's going to do much better on location, I would think. So which one do you get? Do you get one of these? How's it going to shoot? I'll be able to comment more tomorrow. Um, but I think, you know, my, if I was putting down the money right now and committing to one, I think it actually go Looney Tunes. Not only would that help me out with the wife. Um, but I, I think that would be the one that's more in demand first. And then I think you can come around to, uh, Texas chainsaw massacre later. Although I don't think you'd go wrong getting this either. They powder coated, not only all of the armor, including the chainsaw side armor, but they powder coat the ramps they powder go to the wire forms and it's all that uh illusion cherry which i i took that same color and did my uh iron maiden and i can tell you it looks it looks better than just like the red candy coat so i'm hype on getting to play this tomorrow i can't believe i like yeah i don't want to jinx it um but i am i don't know if you could tell by me talking but i'm so dang excited watch the featurette even if you're not into this game like watch like the featurette and what they put into it uh because there are pinballs on meat hooks that lock in the back and that is fantastic so uh one other thing i wanted to get to um with something like this you know it wouldn't be unreasonable i don't think to actually have both of these games even um i've considered just because of the themes are such a departure the codes i think are going to be a departure um what this would be interesting to do though is you could own a looney tunes for a year or so and you know if the layout is really good and you like it but you kind of have gone through all the code and you're not playing the game as much anymore you could actually swap it for this one and almost get like a full redress. So I'm, I'm, I'm kind of liking what they're doing here. Uh, definitely, you know, no matter how you feel about pinball, if you like this layout, there's a game for you. And so I I'm eating grow here. I thought it was going to be a bad idea, but it looks like these guys nailed it. And I'm going to put my, my greasy hands all over this thing tomorrow. I can't wait. Um, and then I'll try to live stream it as soon as I can. I won't be allowed to do it just yet though, because of pending license or approvals and things, but, But that'll come. That'll come in the next few weeks. So yay, spooky pinball. I want to give a shout out to my buddy here, new friend of the show, Johan Calamon. He's a French person, speaks at least three languages. He makes custom acrylic art blades and other things for pinball machines. I think he does cabinet art too and stickers and graphics and things. So it all started, I was looking for some art blades for my big Lebowski, which I just got. It had a topper. It had the light-up starry apron, but it did not have art blades. So I was looking around at what was out there, and, you know, I saw some of the star-filled patterns, saw some I liked, saw some that I thought were a little busy. And then I came across his Facebook page, which is where he sells these things. So this guy prints on acrylic, like flexible acrylics, and makes adhesive art blades for games. They're all 110 euros, and go check him out on his Facebook page. Yeah, Custom Pinball. That's what he does. Custom Pinball. It's Johan. So I had ordered these about eight weeks ago or so paid my 110 euros plus 20, 30 for shipping or whatever it was. And then six weeks go by or something. And I'm kind of coming back to it. Like, didn't I order art blades for big Lebowski? And then my thought was, Oh gosh, I got scammed by some Facebook site. Um, you know, so I posted, Hey, does any, has anybody ordered something from this guy before? I didn't fully vet him, but he looked legit. We texted back and forth. He seemed knowledgeable. He showed me like pictures and videos of other art blades and things. Well, it turns out he was legit. Apparently my Lord, my order got lost in the sauce somewhere. Uh, he found it very graciously, put a rush on it and got it out to me. Even offered me a discount on another set of them. If I wanted, they can knock 20% off or something. And, uh, he had some really nice stranger things, art blades, stranger things was another game that I looked around. I didn't find quite anything that really jived with me. And then I saw his and I'm like, that looks perfect. And, and there's so shiny there. They're like three millimeters or something thick of acrylic and they're adhesive. So when I installed these things, I lined them up where I wanted them to be. I put the play field up and then just used spring clamps to hold it in place and then peeled back the adhesive and stuck it down. And as I did, I just moved the spring clamps and everything lined up. I didn't have to do the wet method with the Windex. I didn't have to remove the play field, which thank God it ended up through the big Lebowski. I think it's heavy. I was just able to lift up the play field, lift down the play field, put it into the service position, put it out to the last service position and, you know, pull off all the backing and it all went in pretty easily. Uh, there is a little bit of drilling that you have to do, uh, to put the, uh, it's not pre cut for the, um, the hinge bolt because it's on different positions depending on how you put the blades in, he said. Um, but all you have to do is remove that bolt, put the art blade in, and then just drill through the hole, put the bolt back in. It covers up what you drilled. It doesn't show any damage or anything. And once I did that, the whole thing fit flush and nice. And now it is secured by the bolt as well. So I'm going to put up some pictures of these things. I did a little bit of the live stream I think these are great I just want people to know about them They 110 euros If you want to go in and get them I don have a discount code or anything for you You can tell him I sent you maybe he knock some 5 off or something But if you looking for which I was an art blade that was like you know a step above these are shiny and acrylic manner, really dig them. You know, they're better than just like the simple vinyl that you Windex on there. Nothing against pin graphics or tilt. I love you guys. I use your stuff and all my stuff, but these are cool. Go check them out. Don't buy them. If you don't want to buy them it's fine i'm not getting kickbacks or anything just honestly i i like how the product is and i want to get more of them when it comes time to get them what i won't need them for is for looney tunes or texas chainsaw massacre because those collector's editions come with them installed already from the factory which is so easy so easy can we go back to spooky for a second i was looking through the photos of the new games and at least on texas chainsaw massacre there's uh apron lights that they put in there uh in the trough and that was an upgrade that was put on to my Rick and Morty and other people sell trough light kits it could be light up those outlanes down there but they're already on there for TCM I have to check to see if they're on Looney Tunes as well but but that's cool like that's what they mean by they put more into this game I'm gonna go look at the whole game I can't wait I'm gonna wait till tomorrow what else am I covering well today my big Lebowski prototype topper showed up from the electric playground and so I told those guys I would give a review they sent it to me out they sent it to me out they sent it out to me uh for free to borrow so this is a um not integrated prototype version so it's full size full scale but doesn't have the connective interactivity yet they're still i guess working on that and getting that ready but they sent me an early copy so i could get it in my hands so i could show it off with an unboxing that unboxing is on facebook i did a live today uh just prior to this recording so you can go check that out if you want to see like how the thing comes packaged the box was three times the size of the top it was amazing i thought i was getting a chest freezer or something. This thing was incredibly well packed. So the deal is that I get to put this thing up there, play with it, take a look at it, you know, run my fingers over it or whatever, and then I'll be sending it back to them. I did purchase one. And so I'll have one coming at some point. Now they are sold out on their pre orders. But they did tell me that they are having an interest list as a backup in case you know, somebody backs out and doesn't want to go ahead and get it, you can get in on it. So if that interests you to TEP pinball.com is their email address. They will also have an unlimited version of this topper as a wall accent that's a few hundred dollars cheaper. It doesn't interact with the game at all. It's a box of lights. But if you like it and you want to get in the wall, they'll have that. So I thought I'd put that out there. So this thing is made up of like 10 to 13 layers of acrylic. It weighs about 14 pounds. I got it up on top of the machine and it just, it kind of dominates up there. From the pictures of their reveal and everything in the videos that they did, it was hard to tell like exactly how big it was. I was thinking, oh, you know, maybe I would prefer something that took up the whole space, but looking at it up there, I mean, you got to see it in person. The thing is pretty massive. So I'm excited to get my version eventually when those are made, they're supposed to be all be completed by May. Um, and then I'm looking forward to seeing more from these guys because you know, I kind of like what their, their jam is, I guess. Uh, so I got it up there. I did a reel on Facebook. I did the good content creator thing. I filmed and reviewed and did the live streams. So go check that out if you want to see a little bit more. If you've ordered one of these already, go check it out to see kind of what it looks like in my hands. And then I'll be sending this back to them. If you missed out and you really want one, put your name on a list, see if it pops up again. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing what Lior is bringing with his topper. I have to say his is probably going to be a little more pricey. That's part of why I went with this one because it was limited to only 100. And I don't know, I'm weak and I like things on top of my pinball machines that blinky blinky when I play. So yeah, tomorrow I am getting off of work at seven in the morning, coming home, throwing on some gear, heading down to Benton. And so tomorrow there'll probably be another episode of this. What am I? I'm an 86 right now. I might hit a hundred by the end of the year at this pace. My God, there's so much going on in the world of pinball and I totally dig it. And I dig everybody here. So Patreon members, your swag is on out to you. So congratulations, Doug, for winning the acrylic keychains from the electric pinball from the live stream. I'll be sending that out to you.
