## Transcript

All right, I think we got audio. I think we got video. We're here. Uh, welcome, welcome everybody. This is the Flipping Out Pinball Stream. My name is Joel. This is my brother Jared. And uh, we're going to be streaming some Sonic tonight. And we have the uh, the lead software designer. Is that what you is that what you call yourself? Yeah. Game design. I software. I'm not a game designer. I'm not a game designer, but lead uh lead programmer, lead software engineer, anything like that. Yeah. Perfect. This is Mr. Bill Grupp. Mr. Bill Grupp. So, if you've enjoyed uh with JJP, I know he owned Elton John. So, if you enjoyed Elton John in the past, that was all Bill and team, but we're going to give you a lot of credit. Yeah, we're gonna give you a lot of credit there, Bill. And uh and yeah, you are the brains here behind Sonic. And um man, it was we streamed this two weeks ago. I know. I had a blast on it. Jared had a blast on it. So, we're gonna have a good time tonight. Um, so yeah, I know people will be rolling in here soon. Uh, but man, this is a game we're just Yeah, gotta go fast. Uh, normally we let Jared play first. I try to explain what he's doing while he's doing it. But, um, yeah, Bill, if there's anything that isn't obvious, let us know. And then obviously everybody guys in chat, if you guys have any questions for Bill, let it rip and we're gonna we're gonna have a good time here. So, let's go ahead and go to the game. Um, one thing that people have asked many, many times is, can you set up a camera to get like eye level? And I tried. I tried. And it's Bill, I don't know, you your your marketing department probably had the same issue, but like trying to show off the upper play field and try to explain that is very hard to do. So, I, you know, um, the uh the the teaser trailer that we put out. Yeah. I can't even tell you how they made that video cuz they have this awesome camera pan where they go around the back of the eggmobile. I have no idea how they did that cuz it I mean it looks awesome when you see it. But yeah, it's it's tough to get the same experience on on the camera as you do when you're playing it. Yeah. Well, I'm trying my best, guys. I'm trying my best. But uh yeah, we're going to have a good time tonight. I'm going to be switching between the uh the topper camera and this other camera that I set up trying to show both. Uh the topper is insane, Bill. So, uh there's I don't know whose idea that was, but between moving mechs and the display in the back, it's that's pretty awesome. That that was all Steve. Um you know, Steve had the concept and uh I believe Dan Lechek is the one who actually figured out how to make it all work. Yeah. Um, and it's it's packed full. I mean, there's there's servos and steppers and the, you know, the giant high res high-res display. It's there's a lot of cramped stuff crammed into that topper. So, yes, it's also very heavy. It's also very heavy. Um, but yeah, Jared here, I mean, he's he started on uh Green Hill, so he started on the the easiest track. All right. And um I really love I don't know whose idea it was to allow yourself to pick your track because Oh, that was mine. I partly because and there's a few other things we can talk about, but um um Chemical Plant is actually slightly easier. It has one less checkpoint. Okay. Um but everybody knows Green Hill and if it wasn't the first thing you saw when you started the game, we would have heard about it forever. Yeah. Um, so if you really want to go for the easy one, chemical plants the easiest. It's one less checkpoint really. Um, but it was, you know, I I was I was um adamant that we had to have a way to change the level. Yes. Um, because I didn't want you locked into having to always start at Green Hill and always work through it. Um it's that's one of the things that I see in some games where if you're always forced to take the same path every time it it definitely it just grows, you know, it it grows this little thing in your like a rock in your shoe where it's like h I don't know if I want to do it again. Yeah. And I love the fact that this that you can't do anything in this game at the very beginning. The fact that it's like Eggman's out, you're trying to show off the mech and you can't you can't do anything but go for Eggman for that first 20 seconds. I I love that. I think it's he's he's he's the boss. And that's kind of one of the one of the things we tried to incorporate from the video game world. Um, every, you know, when we started this project, a lot of people talked about the, um, the past video games that have been made into pinball machines, and there's not a good track record there. Um, so, you know, trying to figure out how we can make what is one of the, you know, most awesome video games in the world into a great pinball machine. there. We had a lot of discussions on that and what what we should and shouldn't do. Um, and you know, it's it's always a balancing act, but I you know, I think we got some really cool things like a true boss where you you know, you're stuck playing the boss and you either beat him or you're drained. Yeah. So, um, yeah. So, I guess that's a question. Uh, this seems very different than a lot of other JJs. I mean, so like was that initial discussion around this like, okay, look, we got Sonic, we know it needs to be fast, which I don't know. It it just feels very different for a JJP than a lot of the other machines that I've gotten. So, um, I just I don't know if that was the, hey, we're trying to get the video game, you know, we have this great video game. How do we best, you know, show this in a pinball form? Is it just we want to try something different? Like I I don't know like how those discussions go on this. It's I would say it's more of an influence the difference between this game and what you have played in in other JP games. I think the game designer is the biggest influence there. Um the um you know, Steve has his style. Well, he's been he's been making games longer than almost longer than I've been alive, but not quite. Um, and you know, he has his style and um there's he has his fans and his you know, people that aren't aren't big fans of Steve, but that's the biggest influence on the differences between games. And this is only his second game at JJP. Um, and I think between what am I doing? Between Steve's between Steve's style and him figuring out what's available to him at JJP. I think that's the difference in the way this game came out. Okay, so this was a little bit of, "Hey, Steve's gonna work on another game. Here's Sonic. It seems a little peanut butter and jelly. We can put it together and and make something good. So Steve likes making fast games. Sonic is a It's a fast game. So yeah, it is. It is. Okay. So that makes sense. So there was a little bit of you got Steve and it's like, "All right, here's some I here's a couple options." And it's going, "Oh, let's go with the one where the fast guy goes past. Let's put him on that guy." Yeah, that makes sense. What could possibly go wrong? The dude knows how to make some fast fast layouts, so it works. It has been cool reading online, you know, there's some people are like, "Honestly, this feels as I don't collect any emeralds." Uh, they're like, "This game feels like Black Knight Sword of Rage 4." Like that's kind of like, you know, and it's like, "Okay, I can respect that." But it I mean, it is fast, but I don't think it's uncontrollable. No, no, no. The fact that I can do this, I am cradled up on the top playfield and the way the fact that there's that center post, the way that you can use that center post to even though the flipper gap is massive, it's uh I I'm super impressed by that. Like I when I saw video of this on reveal day, I'm like this game is it's all going to be about the upper play field. If the upper playfield is not fun, this game is not going to be enjoyable. And honestly, the the upper playfield's like my favorite part of the game. Um Oh, that did not bounce over. Nope. Uh what version is this code? I think it's the the nor like the release version. It's probably 921 or sorry 912. Yeah. Um and someone asked I had I saw one question go by. Uh is um more will there be more topper content? Oh yes, much more. Much more. Yeah. So, right now the what I'm well what sucks with the topper is the game is so good. I never look I never look up. I mean I never I never look up but I understand that topper exists and it's beautiful but it's but it's it's I look up when uh when my I'm getting my score or I don't know. It's but it's the same thing with like amazing topper but 2x4 right in the way. Yeah. The streaming rig and the camera get in the way. I think that's on you, not on the topper. That's fair. Upper flippers don't flip. Game audio is low. All right, we can fix that. We had the game audio low so that you can hear you can hear Bill. That was the thought, but we we'll we can throw it up. All right, we'll find that. That's game one. Game one. Not bad. Um, okay. I'll ask more questions about I've seen Jared play all three sec. Hey, Ian. Jared, I Jared blew it up last week. Okay. Uh, not two weeks ago. Yes. Okay. Because last week I don't want to talk about last week. Last week we played a different game. We played a different game and I wanted to play Sonic the whole time and I wasn't allowed because Joel's a jerk. Yeah. Let Let's just put that out there. All right. Well, game one. After this game, we do have some giveaways, guys. We have some giveaways. Um JJP was incredibly generous, and we actually have multiple bundles. So, let me uh So, what you would get in the bundle now, that's not that's going to be out of focus. I'll have to show it. But, it's a t-shirt. It's a signed uh little banner flyer. It's another signed little poster flyer. It's a Sonic little figurine and a little pack of keychains and a beef stick. And so, um, yeah, Victor's putting all those together for people and, uh, we're going to ship those off. So, definitely hang out because we're going to be giving a bunch of stuff away. It's going to be a lot a lot of fun. Take down the egg mobile. Okay. Um, Jobber, I'm not a super cool guy. Fortunately, I got this cool t-shirt from JJP. Thanks. Head for Eggman. Let me uh I mean, I don't know. I I there's part of me that feels like, look, next time I see a bunch of JJP people, I'm going to have to go up and go, "Guys, I apologize for any any feelings in the past. You made Sonic. It's awesome. So, we're best friends now. We're good. We're fixed. It's all good." All right. I should have picked another. But the fact that you can do that, the fact that the ball can come out on the right side and you can hold up the flipper like this and it consistently bounces over to the left is key jump is awesome. Yeah, it's so nice. Like I don't know of another upper play field that's so I don't know like it's smart. It's good. That's so that's another risk we had when you know you start thinking upper playfield. There's always that balancing act between how long you can stay up there and and how, you know, how you have to get the player off of the upper play field. Yes. Um cuz if if you know if you can trap the ball up there forever, um your ball times just go crazy and and you kind of take some of the fun out of the game. Yeah. U but if you just make one shot and roll off, what's the point of having an upper play field? Yeah. Good. But it's Yeah. And we we were talking a little bit before this stream started about the lighting in this game and how well it communicates what's going on. And I I know it's just out of screen, but like the blue light right now, there's a little blue light back there that's telling me that's the shot to hit. Not to mention the little display that's pointing, you know, this is the this is where you hit cuz you can't do an insert. It's a clear play field. Right. All right, skill shot over here. I have rings and I know rings, you're going to use that to work towards an extra ball. Award hero, you're collecting hero letters to work towards the hero's multiball. Checkpoint works that way. Bonus X is points, but ciao. Chowo, is that how you say it? C H AO. Yep. Chiao. Yep. What is Chiao? Why do I care about that? All right. So, ciao are characters in the Sonic world that are kind of like um Tamagotchis. They're little little things you can raise and grow and nurture and um but in our game they're um they're tied to the what would be a super loops rule. Um so there's a target on the left uh lower playfield. Yep. Uh that says Chow Garden right there. Yep. Right there. What happened? No, my screen went out. I didn't do it. That's not you. That's me. What'd you do? Uh, the captor. I will figure that out. Okay. So, every time you hit the target, the left target, you spawn a new chow egg. Okay. Um, and light the advanced chow um insert on the orbits. So, so you hit the target, it starts the super loop rule, which is the chow. Every time you make a loop after that, it advances the level that the chow is at. Builds up the points for making each of those loops. All right. And then the skill shot doubles the number of eggs you get for every time you hit the target. Don't mind me. I just have to fix this. Okay. So, it's points. Chow's chow's points. You hit the chow, you get the eggs, you do the loops. Super loops. More points. Yep. Hit more, more super loops. Okay, that's cool. Yep. And that that rule is just kind of independent of everything else in the game. You can do that almost any time. Um, hit that target, you can quickly get up to some big points. If you, you know, do two or three target hits and then make three, four, five orbits in a row. Okay. So, really, I mean, we're we're focusing on the right thing, right? where it's you're going through the modes of pick a level, get through it. Okay. And then the chow, more points. I think the rings, too. Are those those combos? Ring combos. The rings are combos. Yep. So, you start um you start by either making an orbit or one of the inlanes, and it lights up the next shot. That would be your combo. Um and you start off with five rings. So, you make the first shot, it's five, and then it goes up from there. it increases um by three, four or five on every shot you make. Um so you quickly can get up, you know, three shots, three combos in a row, you could quickly get up to where you're getting 20, 30, 40 rings at a time. Okay. Oh wow. Um and 100 is where you get the extra ball. Jared, you did one whole game. Keep going. It's fine. We're just having all sorts of problems. So on the uh on the flowchart, I saw that Chow Carden had a blue emerald next to it. Is that something that like you have to do that line of the ch like chowo stuff to get that emerald or no? No. Um, so in an upcoming version, okay, having an emerald, a specific emerald, so having the blue emerald will make the chow shot worth more. So an emerald, all those emeralds in the flowchart will be emerald powers. Okay. And so if you have those emeralds, then whatever shot is associated with those will be boosted or, you know, bonus. So the yellow one is will be rings. Um, uh, I have to I'd have to look a little deeper to remember the rest. Yeah. Chiao is is blue. The batnic attack is red. Red, of course. Uh, what is it? White is tails hurry up. Purple deals with Froggy, which Froggy I have not like done anything with Froggy. I don't know if you want to explain that. Froggy is a mystery award. Um, so in in Sonic, you um Froggy is another side character and his favorite thing is fishing. Um, well, sorry, Big the Cat is a side character and his friend is Froggy. Big the cat, his favorite thing is fishing. Um, and um, you can in the Sonic world, just go and fish with Big the Cat. You get tired of collecting rings and stuff, there's games you Okay. Yep. Just go fish. So, that's essentially our mystery award. So, hitting the the right target where it says big fish um collects a mystery award. Um, and as you progress through it, you collect bigger um, fishing equipment and that gets you bigger awards. Um, and eventually the the top award is finding Froggy, which gives you an extra ball. Nice. So, just mystery related to mystery. Okay. Yeah, it's kind of like a mystery award. Um, again, there be more stuff coming for that. There'll be more awards and um, but nice. Yeah, those are the only two. The chow targets and froggies. It's like those are the only two I haven't quite figured out. All right. And again, they're kind of right up. They're kind of side quest things where it's not really related to any other rule. Um but definitely worth doing either for the points or the other stuff they give you. Yeah. Um combo Chuck, I like how the back class video is not just random clicks. It plays parts of the level depending on your checkpoint progress. How did Yeah. How did you guys get like I know you had access to that video game, but did you just record somebody playing or is this like how did you get the right clips to fit what you have in the game? It is a combination of stuff we recorded and and stuff that was provided by Sega. Nice. Um so it is all super high resolution 4K or better. Um, and then it unfortunately has to be scaled down to our screen resolution. Um, but the other thing I don't know if anybody's talked about yet, this is the first game at JJP where we're running the screen at 48 frames a second. So, this is double the frame rate of our normal video screen. Nice. Um, and that came out of seeing the, you know, the high resolution footage, uh, playing in the game. And to us, just 24 frames at the speed that Sonic runs, that was definitely not fast enough. Yeah. So, um, so the video you're watching now of Sonic running, that's all running at 48 frames a second. That's so closer to video game resolution. So, because it just it probably work looked wrong in film. 24 frames. It did. over. All right, we're going to start our first giveaway of the night. So, what is going on? Why am I not There we go. I found some shots. You found some shots. All right, the keyword. If you want to be entered into a giveaway, we are going to give away a large shirt. So, we got large and XL tonight. Large or XL. So, if you want to be entered into the giveaway in chat, all you have to do is type fast f. Got to go fast. fast and we will do a drawing at the end of this game. These cool jersey hats. All right, go ahead. No. So, the giveaways are a shirt. There's a shirt and a beef stick and a signed flyer and a signed little banner. But you can get these hats chains. It's a bunch of little stuff. I shilled. I'm Win Schilling. I'm sorry. Sorry. King shield. King show. But I will speaking of Win Schilling cuz that's how that's how we roll, right? Yep. Uh, we have these delicious beef sticks from Winsel Winselfarm. If you go to winsfarm.com and use pinball, you'll get 25% off. Uh, Pin Mon sent to Bill and Bill has already admitted he only has one left. He only Bill only has one left. I I had a late late night at work the other night and I'm sitting there staring at this box and it was uh the decision, do I get up and walk all the way to the other end of the building where the cafeteria is or do I break into one of the beef sticks? And uh I had to break down I did save the uh jalapeno one for tonight. That's awesome. But yeah, definitely had some late nights at work. So So uh you know if you It's a That's a big beat. That's a prolevel beast. That's a I'm a fan. I don't know if you're you're a beastick connoisseur, Bill, or if you have any opinions on the quality of that beef stick. But see, the problem is that I can't stop eating them. It's just So, I'm glad they're rolling, too. This This thing is pretty cool, too. This little magnetic tray. Oh, he hooked up. Yeah, he That is cool. Yeah. So, that's great. Yeah. Well, we'll probably be diving into some later, but yeah, whoever uh whoever wins this giveaway, they're going to be getting some beef sticks. So, all right. Where were you? Okay, I'm going to I don't know if Jared likes coached at all, but you've got some stuff lit here, Jared. Multiball on the inline drops. Shoot the lab ramp. The lab ramp. Okay, not the lab ramp. The right ramp. How early in this design did you get that dialed in? Because the way those magnets just Oh, here we go. Explain the scoring here. Because sometimes this scores a lot of points and sometimes it's not a lot of points. How do you How does that work? The more rings you have, the higher your score can be. Oh, okay. So, in a perfect world, if you see that's lit, collect some rings real quick before you start that mode. That's the thought. Yep. Okay. Yes. I mean, it's at some point it's hard to avoid it because it's the right ramp and it's right in your face. Yeah. U but yeah. Um but essentially the second time if you hold off a little bit, you should have many more rings the second time. Um and it's definitely worth more the second time. Makes sense. And is there So there's no speed or like the amount of times you hit the flipper or anything like none of that. It's it's just or wear in the green bar the middle towards the end. Just get in the green. That's the goal. So, there I I probably will add something that adds a speed component to that. Um that, you know, there's a lot of lot of things in this game already that, you know, the faster you complete them, the better you score. Yeah. So, there probably will be something added to that that builds in some sort of speed component. Um I just haven't quite figured out exactly what the right thing is there. Well, I mean, it's very cool. I just know I've done it and I'm like, "How did I score that much that time?" And then another time it's like, "Wait, I'm not rings." Makes sense. There's a there's a bunch of stuff tied to rings. Um, we talked about extra ball at 100. Um, also relights the kickback. Um, and uh, yeah, it rings are rings are a good thing to collect. You can't go wrong. Uh, one thing I haven't paid attention to is does your number of rings do you lose them at the end of your ball? No. There is a there's a setting for that. If you want to do that, there is a setting for that. No, fast. But, um, they carry over ball to ball. You still collect um the number of rings you have in bonus at the end of the ball, but they don't reset. Nice to see you. Um, heroes. Who are they and why do we need them? Um, so the the other multiball is Sonic Heroes Multiball. Okay. Um, Sonic Heroes was another video game. Um, but again, Sonic World, there's four teams in the Sonic World. Each team has three uh characters in it. So, Team Sonic, destroy them all. um team chaotics, team dark, and team uh rose. So to qualify Sonic Heroes multiball, you collect team members, and once you have one team completed, Sonic Heroes is lit. It's that simple. Okay. Um so spelling out the in in-n-out lane, spelling out hero gives you one team member. Um so you need three. Go ahead. Well, I know you can change your team by hitting the action button, but I also know the what is it the What's the slow down time? Is that chaos mode or what's that? Chaos control. That's also the button. So, yes. How do you know like No, I don't want to start that or stop that or how do you change is there a long hold or a short hold or what's the No, they they kind of overlap a little bit, but so changing the Changing the team changes which jackpots are lit in multiball. Yeah. So, um, team dark is the hardest one. All of the team dark jackpots are on the upper play field. Oh. So, if you want to try the easier one, right, team chaotics, all the jackpots are on the left side of the playfield, right? Left orbit, left ramp, um, and the, um, uh, bash dash shot. So, selecting your team picks your jackpot. Um, you can have multiple teams when you go into Sonic Heroes, which means more jackpots are lit. And there's a cool stacking jackpots for super jackpot uh in that multiball, too. So, that's the basics for teams. You have hero multiball lit right there. There he goes. There it is. So, this is where he's saying you could hold the action button and say, I don't want to start this. No. And but do you see how all your all your shots on the right are pink? Those are all your jackpot shots. So rose shots are always on the right side. Team Rose. Yep. Always on the right side. And you need some number of jackpots. I think it starts at three to light super jackpot, which is back where you started back at the bash dash. Nice. Uh in chat here. Slivbunk. Slivven. No. There we go. I ordered my seat on launch day. It's my first JJP game. Second ever first new machine. What can I expect? When can I expect that email from JJP to send it my way? Boy, I I would I would call up whoever I could to find out if I could. Yeah. Um I am I am out of out of the reach of the fulfillment department. So I I wish I could give you a date, time. Uh it's uh you know they don't even tell me that stuff. So well hey good good choice on a game. This is um I don't know Bill we stream a lot of games and and when you when you have awesome games come out you know like Transformers and and you know last time we streamed uh last JGP obviously we streamed Harry Potter and so immediately people are just like which one should I get? Should I go Transformers LE or Sonic? Should I go Harry Potter? I'm, you know, I'm going JGP. Should I go Harry Potter or Sonic? And it's like, dude, there's so many good games out right now. There's no there's no right or wrong answer. But I you got to play them and see which one you like. They're all different games and they all, you know, appeal to different people's tastes. Yeah, I am uh I am enjoying the speed of this game, the simplicity of it, the Yeah, not to mention the light show. I mean, it's insane. Now, are you do you get involved in um programming any of the lights or are you just mostly I do I do I I did a few of the lamp effects um early on and then as I get kind of bogged down with other stuff, I try to, you know, delegate some of that. um uh you know it's it's it's timeconuming to do a really cool lamp effect. Um and so but you know it's it's I think all of the people in our group really kind of take pride in the in the in the light shows. Um so it's you know I don't want to do something that you know I just copied from another game. I want to do something that really works in the Sonic world and takes advantage of all the lights we have in this game. But so what I love is like right now like like most of the lights are not on and I think that's awesome that you've you've you've toned it back a little. You're only communicating what's needed and then when there's a cool shot or a cool moment that's where you utilize the whole play field. So yeah. Yeah. I I like that too. like when you start the ball, skill shot kind of dims down all the stuff to quiet and really gets you focused on where the skill shot um arrows are. Um yeah, I I agree. I agree. All right, Jared is destroying me this game. All right, so I need two shots. I need to focus here. I I just want to go back. There was a question before the giveaway from Pin Monk about um Metal Sonic and uh Shadow. Um yes, definitely more coming. Shadow is already in the chaos control feature. U but yeah, definitely more from those two are coming. Um some interesting stuff in the future modes for Shadow. Uh yeah, there's more coming for all the characters. Cream collected. Wait, her name is Cream Cheese. Yes, it's Well, it's two characters. Cream is the one and then the little cow is cheese. Oh god, Jerry, you just show me. Don't overthink. They're always together. Yeah, don't overthink the Sonic. Don't overthink. Got it. All right, we got to give away some JJP stuff real quick and then we're going to dive into another game. Uh, let me go ahead and do this. This is uh once again JJP was super helpful giving us this stuff and uh Pin Mon is the one that's shipping it all out. So, thank you Victor for doing that. Uh all right, we got 109 people in for this first one. Remember this is a t-shirt, a beef stick, a keychain pack, some signed flyers. Um it's just it's it's a bunch of goodies. Yeah. So, uh the winner we're going to do two drawings. We're going to do two here. So, winner number one, John John Genick. John Jennick, you know the drill. Are you here? Where you at? And where do you live, Bill? We always hope for the sake of Well, now it's would be being mean to Victor, but you know, we hope it's somewhere in like Thailand, you know, that like you got to ship this thing all the way across the world kind of thing. So, John, are you here? Hopefully, you're still here. And where are you at? We go. We Weep We give him a minute and a half. We give him a minute and a half and then we got a can be such a long There we go. changing my VPN to North Korea. Don't do that, you nerd. Okay, John is here. I'm ex I'm assuming John is is in uh is in the US with that type of response. So, um thank you, John. Way to win. Reach out to support pin Minnesota. Congrats on winning that shipping place. All right. Uh reach out to supportpunk.com and he will ship that out to you. Support. And we're going to go ahead and we're going to roll one more. We're going to roll one more here and then we're going to go ahead and d play another game. I think we have Oh, Steve MCC. Steve MCC 1970. I'm assuming he was born 1970. Uh, yes. I guess he is an MC. So, he has been a microphone man at some point. Is that Steve? Are you a microphone man? Can you answer that question, please? Microphone man. Steve MCC, are you here? Are you a microphone man? because apparently that's a term. I mean, run memo Missouri. He's here. Okay. Thank you. All right. Well, reach out to supportpunk.com. I'm really good at these because I my fifth grader was talking all about this for couple weeks. So, all the states abbreviations. Oh, you learned them all. I know them now. Oh, okay. Uh, support at what? Support at pinmunk.com. Yep. Support at pinmunk.com. And uh Whoops. I don't know. It's either a large or an XL. We're just gonna have to figure that out. He's here and he's not a mic man. Okay. I'm here and I'm pretty I'm sorry you're not a mic man. Yeah. All right, Bill. What should we Well, I'm going to let Jared play. I don't want him. I just want him to play. But what would you like me to try to do or focus on on this next game? Uh, let's see. focus on on the next game. Um, let's see. What can we try? I mean, Jared started on chemical plant. Started on a different mode here. Yeah, there's a there's an adjustment. If you want it to start on a random level, you can set the adjustment. It picks a random one for each player. Ian, wow. What should I focus on? Ian, having a ball longer than 4 seconds. Thank you, Ian. appreciate you. Thanks for Thanks for being here. I mean, I would love to to have you show people how easy it is to get a 100 rings and just focus on combos for a ball. Okay, so like right now I see one yellow light and then what? This is counting down. This is so that Oh, just look at the yellow inserts, you dingus. Yes, two yellow inserts. You bet. Just focus on yellow inserts. All right. Yeah. And then the combo it'll follow if you move to the upper playfield. Little light yellow shots in the upper play field, too. Got it. That was uh that was not what I wanted to do. Okay, so right now nothing. I don't see any yellow. Yep. You need an orbit or an inlane to start a combo. Here you go. Oh, I see. Oh, there we go. So, there's a combo. So, and then off to the left side. And I got 8 seconds. So, it's not There wasn't eight. Oh, so close. Last chance now. Too late. Yep. Now I need to go left side again. It's I get it. I'm overthinking this. I'm trying to play control. You're saying no. Go fast. That's right. You could back out, too. Yeah. Oh. Oh, I did the in lane. So now my right shots. Oh, so these are like readily available. Yeah, it is trying to set you up to make the next shot. So, there we go. Got 11. Hit the next one quick. Oh, so close. And every time you hit a combo, you get how many rings. I believe it starts at five and it goes up um sort of exponentially. Dude, if I could hit a combo, but yes, good to know. That's fine. I'll get there. Listen for a second. Wow, people. So, you know, the other thing I haven't heard people talk about is the is the player score area. I mean, usually the pinball scores in the bottom center. Oh, you're right. We It's all up there. And I mean, that's right out of the Sonic video game world. Oh, okay. Again, breaking the rules for a pinball machine, but I think we needed that for this game. Oh, I mean it it makes sense. And what I do like is the fact that at the bottom is your checkpoint area. You know, that's where we're focused on that, right? All right, let me cheat and get some rings here. I mean, who really pays attention to score ever on a Bimble machine? Like, you know, believe it or not, a lot of people. Not us, but Oh, that's where then it goes up top. Okay. I could have Yeah. Then there'll be yellow lights up on top. So, Okay, that's cool. That's cool. Now that I'm focused on it, I can't hit any of it, but it's all right. Is there going to be a video mode using the topper? Somebody asked that. That would be pretty nuts. So, um, in general, I'm not a big fan of video modes. I mean, I did them back in the 90s. Williams, I had to make them for every game I worked on. Um uh but generally not a big fan and um I don't think we're going to have one in this game. Mostly because it is a video game. Uhhuh. And I feel like it's you'd be better off playing the real Sonic video game if you're in a video mode. So I I can't I can't compete with with Sega's video games. What of of the video modes you made back then? Do you have a favorite? I, you know, I think my favorite video mode, and it's not one I made, is still the Star Trek NextG game. Um, the uh the loop. I mean, that's that's a Dwight uh thing, which I think is just awesome. What he was able to do in the system we had and with a bunch of orange dots. I think that video mode is awesome. Yeah. I just noticed Jared has 33 rings. For somebody who isn't focusing on it, you've uh you've collected a few. Yeah, I'm not I think I could see why. Okay. Oh, it's already over. There's There were two displays that were flat. It's not showing rings. It was showing like a yellow square thing. I don't It was I don't know if that was just art or if it was actually indicating something. I think the yellow square is the um chemical plant background. Oh, that makes total sense. So, so, so if it has nothing to show as information, it shows something related to the level you're on. So, you'll see flowers for Green Hill. I see the mechanical looking things for chemical plant. I'm just going to go for some some Nope. I was like, I'm gonna go for some rings up top here. And nope, there we go. There's a ring. That's not a ring. Uh, are rings something you can do during multiball. Yes. Oh, so you can probably get a lot if you can line up a shot. Yes. Can't line up. Yeah. All right. That was a terrible game, but that's all right. You did. Where did it go? Did I get down? We will see as soon as you start. Yeah. Do I? No. There we go. Okay. Also, oh, um, the chaos. Even you can't stop me now. What do you call it? Chaos time. Oh, chaos control. Yeah, chaos control. How do you like that? And when would you suggest using So, you light it by collecting emeralds. You get 15 seconds of chaos control time for each emerald you collect. Okay. Um, so it's it's a precious commodity. Um, and so you want to try to use it carefully. Um, there's a few places where he walked away and he missed his ball save. All right. Um, there's a chaos control pauses all timers. So, anything that's timing out, whether it's a hurry up or the um the cow garden stuff or the um uh the bash dash where he's it's holding the ball in the bash dash when you're in multiball. Um it freezes any timers so they don't expire. um for again 15 seconds per emerald that you collected. There's there's about 10 different places where you can use it. Um and it really depends on what you're doing um when you have chaos control time available. Um one example is um in a boss battle. If you can freeze the time in a boss battle right when you start, you lock in the hurry up value at its start value. Um, and that can be, you know, 10, 20, probably up 25 million. Um, which, you know, gives you an extra 15 seconds to try and kill the boss at that full value. That makes a lot of sense cuz I was like, okay, I understand why you would want to do it just for your time. like, oh, I got a better time on the score, but the fact that it you're also doing it for jackpot values makes a lot of sense. So, but it works on the rings, too, right? If you start a combo Oh, yeah. Well, the timers, those stay lit for that whole time. If you have, you know, if you have 45 seconds, you've got 45 seconds where those lights don't time out. So, I actually uh focused on some stuff and as I drained, I had 117 rings that that game. So, yeah, if you focus on yellow, you can kind of quickly get that. Yep. That's awesome. Um 15 seconds is a long time in a game like this. Well, collecting emeralds is not easy. The first one's easy, but after that it gets hard. The second one's not bad. Yeah, but then it gets after that it does get challenging. Yeah. Whoa, Jared, I don't know what's happening. So, and I, you know, late, you know, lane change very important for getting to the Sonic Heroes multiball. Uhhuh. Every time that ball rolls off the upper playfield, you need to be lane changing to collect a letter. Yeah, cuz I was like, man, it's 12 It's 12 letters, you know, to get to where you need to. But it's uh it's not that bad when you just remember to do that. Do you get a letter every time you come off the upper playfield? every single time. Yeah, if you remember lane change. Hey, well, lane change is really hard to remember. It's not. It's really hard for some people, but like I feel like just the more pinball you play, the more you just get used to always as I forgot to do it right there. But oh, it's so easy to remember. As I forget to remember. Yeah. Uh-huh. Oh, whatever. All right. Come on, D. All you pinball experts out here, get back up top. Get back up top. That's the other way to get it is when it rolls back on the insert, you can get Oh, god. You can get two You can get two letters that way. If Yep. Yep. That's the I don't lose many of those boss battles, but I keep doing that tonight. A lower play field and upper play field, dude. Oh, no. Yeah, it's a good Yeah, I was going to say the boss battles definitely get harder. Uh I think on a starting with the third boss battle, um he won't go down at all until you make a shot in the upper playfield. Oh, so yeah, they get harder. Yep. Um and he starts doing some crazier stuff in terms of his movements, too. I've gotten to I've beaten two. I don't know if I've gotten to a third yet. All right, let's see if we can do it here. All right, I forgot to do another We'll start another giveaway after this one. Is this ball? It's ball three. Yeah. All right. Uh I like doing point. Totally missed it. Oh, was there enough grace? Thank you. All right, I have my multiball lit. There it is. Okay. All right. Who did I I wasn't paying attention to my team, so I'm Okay. I was Rose, so I'm all on the rose. Yep. Another great riskreward. What do you mean? Do you do you start the multiball or do you cancel it and try to get more more team members? because then every shot could be a jackpot. Every shot could be a jackpot. Yeah. Um and you know, but you if you're on your last ball, probably want to take the multiball when you can. Yeah. Which, let's be honest, we're taking that multiball 99% of the time. Well, you know, 100 rings and you have an extra ball. So Oh, that's true. Jeez, Joel. I think I have an extra ball. You got an extra round. Yeah. All right, y'all. Let's lock her in. I know. Nope. This uh the skill shot changes after a little while. That's like instead of it being three, it moves. That makes it I like after you make a few of them, they get harder. It's like it's a skill shot. Like you need skill to hit the shot. Yes. Weird. All right, let's get let's do another giveaway. Um, Steve won an XL. Okay, I think we've given away an XL. I don't know what the first one was, but we're going to give away two more packs at the end of this game. Let's change it to uh Bill, you got a good word for us. What uh what should the keyword be? What do you want to see typed a lot? Um, chaotics. C H A O T IIIX. C H A O T I X. K C. You only knew how many times I had to type that. All right. It is in there. C H AO T IIIX. That's what uh we're going to do. Two holes at the end of that. Behold. I think it's time to break into some jerky here. I'm all right. I think it's time just to um My wife has been sneaking down here stealing beef sticks. You need to Oh, stop her. The the box. I'm like, Nicole, this is supposed to be for the stream. She's like, I don't care. I'm hungry. That's so my box of sticks is is dwindling. But I also I'm not I'm a wuss. I don't like the spicy. You got the spicy there. You got the jalapeno. Um Yeah. I can't wait to try the jalapeno. So, that's what she dove into. Nice. All right. I like the teriyak. Teriyak is my go-to. Uh Winsel's Farm 25% off. Get yourself some beast. All right. Let's do it. All right. I did the rings. I'm just I need to get through some modes here. I'm going to chemical plant. Let's do it. I did um Whoops. I've done all the modes and the later ones like Sea Seaside Hill and all that. They get very hard. They They did get tricky. So, I can't hit any of what I want. Come on. But hey, that's what you want, right? Are they worth more, too? Like, if this was in a tournament right now, would would people be would people be going for the harder ones cuz they're worth more or No. So, there for every checkpoint, you get more points. So yes. Um and then you get you collect those again in the um level total. So when it's rolling up the total, you get um bonuses for every checkpoint, extra points for the hard shots. So extra points for making checkpoints on the upper playfield. We got rings out the plate. So my checkpoint shots all the way over there. Almost at it. Bounce over. I love it. I love the control that you can clearly that I'm showing. All right, this will ski jump over and then let's hit that. Nope, too far. That is such a weird way that comes off that when it goes the round the loop to like the left out. That's such a weird like way the ball comes out the game. Yeah, it's cool. Like were there a lot of iterations of the upper play? Player one is up. Like I feel like there was a lot of like moving metal to try to figure that one out all the shots. There were a lot of iterations. Um but most of them were just trying to figure out how to make it fit. I mean it's like Steve had this idea of how big a playfield he wanted there. Yeah. And it was it was like, you know, it it was what can I do to get everything else out of the way to make this playfield fit here? Okay. And he wasn't going to settle for anything smaller than what we got. Well, the fact that he got the flippers, the fact that he has the flipper mechs under the wooden playfield Yeah. is I mean, it's awesome. Like from a visibility standpoint, I I know trying to show it here. It's just The visibility is amazing. The fact that this upper playfield, you really don't feel like it's blocking any of your visibility of any of the rest of the game is. And another another big steep thing is making sure you can service the game, too. So, he was obsessed with making it, you know, less than 5 minutes to get that whole thing off the game and down to where you can service anything below it. Um, it's it's five screws and three connectors and that whole thing just comes out. I should really make a video of how to do that cuz it's, you know, it is crazy how easy it is to get that thing out. I mean, I'm a software guy and I can do it in 5 minutes. Um, we did mention it earlier. We didn't have it. Oh god. The uh the right ramp, the magnets that are involved in that right ramp. Oh, sick. The way that you just barely have to get that ball to touch that ramp and it just just sucks it up. It's I find it extremely satisfying all the time. It is. Was that was that a pain to program or no? Is it is a pretty simple mix? Yes. No, it is it is a simple mechanical device that has this huge amount of software and development that went along with it. Um it it was um I wouldn't say it's terrifying, but it has been my nemesis for a while. Um and um it you know when it's when you see the the end product, it looks like magic. Yes, it does. But along the way, it was it was not fun for me. Um, God train back. And I, um, I had them build a special test fixture that all it did was launch balls at the ramp. Um, so I could get data on, you know, what to do when a slow ball comes in, what to do when a fast ball comes in, what to do when the ball comes in a little sideways and spinning. and it ran for months. Um, and yeah, I said it's it has been my nemesis for a long time now. Well, we I have not had a single issue with it. Like it you've done you've done well is what I'm saying. It it uh Thank you. It's It sometimes will grab a ball, you know, like random ricochet and it just you you know, barely touches it and then all of a sudden boom, sucks it up. It's like, "All right, I'll take that." Right. Right. Yeah. That's my favorite feature of that ramp is um it will pull it out of your hand and send it through the loop. And I don't I just don't know how you do that cuz magnets get hot. Like I don't I feel like the I don't know you whatever you you work some voodoo magic to to make that consistent. Yeah. I feel like I feel like is this going to be one of those like company secrets like you go nerds figure this one out cuz I it's wild. It it it does look like a magic trick on that cuz how many magnets are in that ramp? Three. Okay. Three. There's four magnets in the game. The one under Dr. Eggman and the three in the ramp. They're all the same pancake magnet. Um Okay. There's nothing nothing special about the magnet. Shoot the cover. There's nothing It is. I'm not trying to brag, but there's nothing special about the device. It's three magnets, three optos, and that's it. And then, you know, and I just have to figure out how fast the ball is going. Yeah. Timing. And so, yeah. And so, I'm assuming Steve's like, "Make it go up the ramp fast." And then you do that and then he's like, "Make it stop on the ramp." You know, like like that's Well, so yes, I mean, we have tried since the day that Steve mocked this up for the first time. Yeah. Um to make it go as fast as possible. Um and I I actually laughed. Somebody asked me if I could slow it down. And no, no, I can't slow it down. It goes fast. Um but catching the ball, that was totally, you know, a mistake. I was, you know, I was trying to tune it so it goes faster and I had it set like an extra zero in how long it was supposed to fire the magnet. Okay. And it just it stuck there and it, you know, um and so it's like that was the, you know, the aha moment like, wow, we could do that on purpose. Yeah. Exactly. So there's there's a So really you got at it. You you needed to have something built just so you could sit here and get an idea of the values and ranges that this thing needed to be able to do. Yeah. And it's doing this thing on the fly, which is it's wild, just the speed. So, and it, you know, he's playing multiball right now. It's working in multiball. If you send two balls to it, it actually works pretty well with two balls. Really? Yeah, man. It's a It's a very cool It's one of those things like you start off it's like the easiest like from a mechanical point of view, right? It's just we got three magnets and some sensors, but it's all the timing to make it work. There's no, like I said, there's no secret to what it does. It's just putting in the time to make it work. Yeah. Right. Anybody could do it. It's just committing the time to make it work is what's hard. Well, and it's a it is a feature of a machine that makes sense for the property, does something cool, and if you were to just walk up and look at this, you want to like it's just another ramp, right? And then the first time it grabs it, you're like, "Oh, wow. Okay, there's something crazy going on." And then I you were doing quality testing too with all of your millions of iterations of launching a ball at the ramp. You're like, you know, somebody came along was like, how long these magnets going to work? And you're like, uh, we've got a bunch on this, so we're probably okay. Yeah, I got a bunch. Yep. I haven't burned one. They did the same They did the same thing with the eggmobile. You know, life testing and the eggmobile went forever, too. Yeah. And that's a really cool mech. Like if you can when you guys get out here and see a Sonic AL and just look at the the armature on that thing. It is a really cool armature that they built to give it all of the access of movement. So yeah. Yeah. So uh Cam is the guy who designed that mech and uh again put a lot of time into every single little detail. Yeah. I he had laid out on our our table in engineering all of the iterations he went through and I think there's 10 or 11 iterations he went through from where he started. Poor guy and Oh, I know. I know. It's It's And it's the same thing. It's, you know, there's no there's no secret to what's going on there. It's just he's the one that took the time to get all the pieces right. Yeah. All right. I had an extra ball. Um, somebody in chat had asked, um, you know, we're talking about how crazy that mech is, but as a programmer, is there another mech in pinball, whether it's a JJP mech or somebody, you know, a Stern mech or somebody modern that you really enjoy because you know how complex it is, if that makes sense. How complex it is. Yeah. Um, let me think about it. I'm I'm sure there's a bunch. Um the um you know the ones that seem simple uh like the the spinning wheel in Toy Story I know how much work went I mean it it's a wheel that spins around and it stops on one of the letters um you know it's wheel of fortune but I know how much work went into making that um do what it does and it's uh you know again not that is not I would have rather worked on the accelerator ramp, then take on that spinning wheel. Um, really? Yeah. Oh, yes. So, that's one spinning wheel. And obviously JJP with pirates trying to do three spinning wheels. That Yeah, that was before my time. I wish I could know more of the story behind that, but that was long before my time at JGP. Hey, get back here. All right, I got to beat this guy. So, how long have you been at JJP so far? Um, uh, 2019 is when I started. Okay. All right. I got my hero multiball lit. Get back up there. I mean, which goes to show JP's been around a while doing this stuff. There we go. I've been out here grinding for a while. All right. So, I technically have Casino Night Lit, which I just started, but unfortunately it's not in the game yet. So, I'm just I'm just going to imagine it being really really cool. Oh my goodness. Look at Casino Night. It's amazing. This is This is my favorite mode in the casino. That is awesome. It is awesome. How close are you to that in the game or do you already have that all figured out? Uh figured out, yes. Done. No. So, well, sorry everybody. Are we we're we're using Bill tonight for this stream when he could be writing code apparently. That's pretty much pretty much true. But yes, uh if I was not streaming, I would be typing on my computer. So that's good. We're saving Bill's fingers right now. We were talking to Elizabeth Gizky with with Stern and we're just like uh I mean at this point you just use AI to uh to just write all pinball code, right? and she was telling us about how you like how simple things AI just doesn't understand like um her example was um grace period you know like you you're trying to like why would a computer know hey the time is up but give it more time like just some stuff like that she's like it doesn't understand it it's no matter what we do and the joke was like somebody in chat wrote write good code, no mistakes. Like that's the that's the only prompt you have to give AI, right? Um Yes. So, yes, we appreciate what you guys do cuz it's obviously not easy. Well, our Yeah, our our prompt always starts with make game fun. Make game fun. No mistakes. I think I think it's key that you remind AI no mistakes. That's that's the key. Yeah. Does that work? Okay. So, big fish is lit. This is what you're saying is a mystery award if I hit it. Yep. Which I Yep. N I went for it and thanks Bill, but I lost the ball. Sorry. Enter your name. You've been richied. Um, you know, getting riched though is nicer than a certain other person. Jared's Jared's Borged like all the time and I'm like Jared Borg was not involved in this game. It haunts my dreams. No, it's the it's the badge of honor. So Borg, we're like Borg is not this isn't this isn't a board game. All right, we got to pull some we got to do some giveaways here and then we'll do another game. Cool. All right. Do you yell at John Borg when you play pinball as well? I yell at John Borg all the time. Well, I know a lot of pinball people like all you guys, you know each other. You've known each other for years, so you're just yelling at a friend probably. Um. Oh, yeah. All right. So, this is uh we're doing another one. Chaotic. C chaotics. A chaotics. Cream. The '9s. C I chaotics. Can you give us the lure? The lore of chaot. Why chaotics? Bill, do you know that? O. Uh, that's beyond my years. Bill, are you a big Sonic lore nerd? JJB has one. You just hired him, right? This is his name Tyler Taylor. Taylor Taylor Snyder. Yeah. Um yeah, big Sonic Hedgehog fan. Very talented programmer, too. That's awesome. Um I could not have gotten this far along in this project without him. So Oh, good for him. Good job, bud. All right, we're going to pull uh we're going to pull this is a JJP t-shirt, signed flyer, signed little banner, keychains, a little Sonic figure, and a beef stick. Don't forget the beef stick. Here we go. So, the first winner is Boom. Jay Smith. 8932. Jay Smith. Smith. I'm I'm guessing American. Wales. Yes. They're going English. There's a lot of Where we at? Jay Smith, you here? Where you at? Um I realize I'm making Pin Monk's life very hard because I think there was like Oh snap. Three Oh snap. I think there's like three larges and three XL's. I don't know what I don't know what. Victor, if you're watching, I I don't know what I'm giving away, but hopefully it's okay. So, on assignment in Antarctica. I don't think I believe that. T Smith, I don't think I believe that, but I don't think a t-shirt is going to be super warm. Pennsylvania. Awesome. Throw 3 XL and two large left. So, 3XL. Uh hopefully Jay Smith, what? You'll get one of those. Which one do you want? XL or large? Because then we'll we got the count going. Count going. All right. I'm going to give you one second to answer that. XL or large? He's going to come back and be like, I'm a medium. Well, get a large. Get a large. You can sleep in it. Eat the beef stick. Bulk up. Bulk up, bro. Um, okay. Well, I'll let you figure that out. You're going to email support support large. Okay, perfect. Large. So, we have one large left and three three XL's. All right. And the second winner is game's so pretty. Boom. Horse. Horse the band. Horse 65. Horse the band. Horse 65. Are you here? Are you a horse? Cut. He's talking about a band. Yes, I know that. Yeah, the cut man. It's a great song. Horse. Okay. What a name. Hey, I won. Horse is here. This is This horse can type quickly. Yeah. With with hose and air. Horse. Are you here? Where are you at? And do you want a large or an XL? We're just giving you all the questions. Uh, what's your favorite color? Horse. If you're a horse, how do you say nay? I'll try it. No, Mr. Ed is his name. A, it's Mr. Ed. I think he's writing out everything. But, uh, yes, horse. Thank you for the one. You learn how to type on a computer. Minnesota XL, please. Sweet. Two XL's left, one large left. Got it. Awesome. supports. Reach out to supportpin.com. All right, Bill, let's keep going. Bill's here. We're only halfway done. What? We're only halfway in. 11 o'clock. Jared, I just need you to go off on one of these. All right, we got to We got to go fast. We got to think fast. We got to think. I mean, go fast, but play control. We have to be in control. Do you want to start on Green Hill? Do you want to try something else? You know what? You're going Green Hill. Okay. Chemical player. Okay. I want to be chemical player. Do you have a favorite um Do you have a favorite level, Bill? Um I think the uh the what? It's my favorite. I'm trying to remember what my favorite is. Um Careful with this thing. Yeah, I I think on this game I think it's probably I'm going to say Sky Sanctuary, but I Okay, I'll try that. Do you challenging? But somebody had asked um music. Is there any more music going to be in the game? The music that's already in it is awesome. I'm really enjoying. Yeah. Yeah, there's more coming. Of course, the four feature modes all have their own music. Um the um including the There's one that Slash did some custom work for us on. What? The Slash. Oh yeah, the Slash. Yeah. What? Yep. How do you know the Slash? Slash was involved with GNR when they designed GNR. Sure. So, him and Eric became pals, but I'm pretty sure Slash has had a guitar soul in like every game since. What? Yeah. God Godfather and uh I don't know if he has anything in um Harry Potter. Harry Potter. But, uh yeah, he's big pinball fan. Has a bunch of games. Um likes our games. Uh he's just a friend. So, um, awesome. I mean, I don't have I don't have him on speed dial, but Eric does. So, um, yeah, he's a he's actually a really nice guy. No, he I understand he's a total sweetheart. Um, you're just calling him Slash. And hey, you're not Eric is. Hey, Slash. Eric is Yeah. Um, do you We need a sweet ripping solo on a song. Can you uh do that? And he puts on his slash hat. Say no more cuz it's right by he does I don't think he wears slash hat in the house but he puts the slash hat on and then he goes rip solo and goes like here Eric epic solo I am slash and then he takes the slash hat off and Eric goes no notes that's perfect how how could you give notes to slash can you do that but like play it better hey slash could you be better at your job somewhere I have a picture of the box that the hat lives in. There's a box. Oh, the lore behind the hat. I need to know. Yeah. And there apparently there are many hats, of course. Well, I should say there have been many hats. They don't last forever. They might tilt, but I I feel like in our hearts it's been the same hat forever. It just it just resurrects like the phoenix and it just Yes. Yes. Man, if you can't tell, I really like Slash. Dang, there's a lot of checkpoints. A lot of checkpoints in this mode. Good. Are the Are the checkpoints always static or is there any mode where the checkpoint is moving? So, we tried to stay as true to the game as we could. So, the path that you take on each of the levels is the path that you could take in the actual video game. Oh, what? Crazy. Yeah. Um, some of the levels have shortcuts um and have, you know, if you take the easy shot, you will follow one path. You take the hard shot, you'll follow a different path. Wait, you're Okay, so you're telling me the shot that I hit out of my three options will determine what my next three options are. Oh, yes. I did. And that's Yep. So, you can learn the pattern for each level. But if you hit one wrong shot, the pattern's going to be different than if you had the Well, no, the pattern won't The pattern's the same on each level every time you play. So, you can totally learn the pattern for the easy shots, learn the pattern for the normal shots, the pattern for the hard shots. Um, and if you if you miss a shot, um, Oh god, I looked away. You miss a hard shot, you can always make the easy shot or the normal shot to get to the next checkpoint. What? So that's what I was Okay, so like right now Jared, what did you Oh, you did chemical. Yeah. So like he can either go lab or left ramp chaos target or cow chow target, which he did. Yep. So if he does another chow target, that's going to give him three shots. That would be different than if he did two L left ramps instead. Is that what you're saying? So uh and it depends on which checkpoint you're added in a particular level. Uh we have the there's a map for every single level of how they work. And at some point we're probably have to puzzle uh publish that if somebody doesn't like scope it out first. Um, but there's a map for every single level showing the easy shots, the medium shots, and the hard shots. But, um, look, I'll make the argument I think it's kind of cool. A, we didn't even know that. B, figure it out, nerds. Like, you know, like I I don't know. Like, I So, I have many opinions about the charts of death, and there have been charts of death that are brutal. I love this charted of death. It's not of death. It's just like, "Hey, shoot shots. Oh, you got a question? Look at the shots over here." Still have a good time, but we can do it. And then, so I like the idea of it's like, "No, we're not going to tell you. Just figure it out." But but that's what I like is the variety of this. If if you are always starting in a green hill, you're telling me if I hit the easy shot, the next three shots will always be the same. If you always hit the easy shot first, the next three shots are always going to be the same. But you had the medium shot, you're going to get three different shots. That's crazy. And that's that's crazy, man. Yeah, it's it's again, it's changes. Every level is different and not every checkpoint has that decision. Okay. Um but but there are a lot of them in there. Um I think Greenhill has uh four decision points, maybe three. Three decision points where you can uh change your change where your shot takes you to the next checkpoint. Well, that's clever. That makes sense for the game, right? Like if you remember the levels of the games, like usually like it kind of like feeds in one and then out and then in and then out. So, yep. Somebody mentioned perfect translation from games. You could master certain paths and speedrun them. And that's exactly what we want you to do. And we were we reward you for doing that, right? You get extra um time bonus for speedrun, right? If you can speed through a level, the time that takes you to finish that level is definitely a factor in your in your level total bonus. So, right now Jared started the Batnick hurry up. Is it worth doing the Batnick hurry up or should he just keep being fast and try to ignore it and play the checkpoints? Like, are there certain hurry-ups where no, no, no, you should you should change your mentality like focus. He should be focusing on the bat targets right now. ignore the progress kind of thing. So, Baddic's just a time mode like any other pinball mode. And if you concentrate on just that when it's going, again, it's a time mode. If you have chaos control, you can stop the timer and you can get up to where it's a million points per target if you just keep focusing on it. All right, I beat Sky Sanctuary. There's so much. It's almost like there's tons of really interesting code in this game. Weird. I just when you have a game that's so straightforward, you don't want it to be so straightforward you're doing the same path every time. It gets old. But I don't I think what you're explaining is you've built in complexity without you even realizing the complexity is there. Like unless Well, it's that it's it's easy to explain and understand, difficult to master. Yes, that's that's the whole premise of I will never accept the the rules for this game. Um, and it's very similar to what we did in Elton, but we took it much more focused on that kind of thing. Mhm. Focused on the hurry up aspect for Sonic where, you know, speed is what you're rewarded for. Yeah. So, I'm playing the most difficult level in the game. And so, I only have two options. So, the easy one is the left orbit. Look how many checkpoints there are. There's a lot. One, two, three, four. And so, I either need to get to the upper playfield and hit the far right shot or I need to go left orbit. And either bash dash time. What is that? It just said it was bash dash time. Bash dash time added. So betas is another feature that's still a little bit in development, but you can kind of try it out a bit, right? In the version you have. The idea is when you're in multiball, you shoot that target and it catches the ball. Yeah. So, first of all, it gives you a place to park a ball when you're in multiball to get kind of clear up some space on the playfield. But while the ball is held, it acts as a captive ball. And you can hit the captive ball to increase your jackpot multiplier. Go. How many? 9 million. So that's because of rings. Rings are 48 rings. Yep. So bad test is a multiplier feature for any multiball. Okay. So once you start multiball, it's lit at the start of the multiball. You shoot the ball in there. Every jackpot while the ball is held is doubled. And then as long as the timer is running, you know, even after it lets the ball out, your jackpots are still multiplied. And again, another chaos control place where you, you know, if you have chaos control time while bash dash is running is a great time to lock in your multiplier at 2x, 3x, 4x, um, while chaos control has the timers paused. That was not clean. Almost. Okay. Yeah. So, question about the the rank seems primarily around speed. Like speed's a big or time. The time in it is a big difficulty of the shots. Probably the difficulty of the shots. That would make sense. That was not that. So when you see the level total screen, it has listed right there what's contributing to your rank. Okay. It's the time that you took to finish the level. It's the number of expert shots or upper playfield shots. It's the number of rings you collected during that level. Right? All of that goes into into calculating your rank. All right. Before we start the next one, we have one more giveaway. Uh, we're gonna do probably two and then we'll end the night with the last one. Uh, Bill, do you got another another fun word? You want to do uh, robotnik? Okay. Robotnik. Is that R O B O T N I K? K. That's why they're bad. Done. R O B O T N I K. That is the next one for another giveaway from JJ. Cool. I'm just gonna grab some water. I'll be right back. You're all good. All right, dude. Bill's great. Bill's cool. I mean, every every programmer, every designer we've had on the stream, it's awesome. And uh you can tell they they care. They care and they're passionate, but you can also tell how hard they work. And uh yeah, there's a lot I I think Bill's done just such a really good job of a simple enough game to understand what you're doing, but yet he's sprinkled in some legit complexity that if you want to focus on it, you can. It's awesome. Um, who in chat I know everybody's typ top top typing robot, but who in chat has one of these on order because I think you're going to enjoy it. If you don't, safer flipfl.com. That is correct. Yes, Zach does have them. He's got them. Or he will gladly take your order is what I'm saying. Nothing in stock yet. Maybe just a sprite that pops up that does it. Uh, let me know. Taylor does. Good for you. Secure Sakumisen. Awesome. Steve Sky Steve MCC the mic man. That's my new best friend. That's sick. Shave ball. Hope this hope the pass well man. Uh no limits come. Really? I had one on order. Found it very boring. That's unfortunate. I am I am not in that boat. This is a game that I really enjoy just flipping on and having a good time. About to put a pause down. I typically don't do Yeah. Combo Chuck. This game's legit. It's definitely different. Like it's it's offered just something different than a lot of other games out there. Uh Stan's got one CE for Flip. That's awesome, man. It's awesome. Denin, but bro, you like Cact. I do like Cactus Canyon. I do. I never pay before I play, so need to play it first. Living with Albert, I understand. I understand. And I'm I hope people are looking forward. Hopefully, you have a chance to play this at Chicago Pinball Expo or even TPF come March, you know, something like that. Thanks for everybody sticking around tonight. This has been a this been a fun one. I don't know. I I I always like geeking out with design, you know. There. Look at this control. Multiball on the inlines. Look at Look at him go. There were issues right out of the box and the lof didn't catch the ball correctly. Played it next to Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice has me money. Hey, Beetlejuice is a great game. I don't blame you for buying that at all. Um, I have genuinely not had a single mechanical issue with this game except for one of the lightboards. If you watch the first stream, I was having issues with the light board over here. I literally unseated the connector and receated the connector and that has fixed the problem. But otherwise, no problems at all. People with one on order get bonus prizes. Yeah, we just let Jared focus in. He's already about to beat this mode. You can't beat the mode while you're in multiball. But now he's out of multiball. So, time to be in the boat. Right up the middle or left. There it is. Boom. No problem. Chuck, I want to be a puddle programmer. I'm a I'm a casino game programmer. Would love to. Dude, that's awesome, dude. I like there's a lot of crossover. That's a lot of crossover. There's a couple of them that have come from that one. Yeah. I feel like multiple pinball companies are hiring hiring programmers all the time. So, we should definitely uh do that. Stupid robot dick. You almost have it. D's like a pool shark. Pretends he's not good until big money's on the table. Except for the one time where, you know, with I think it was Beetlejuice, Bug was going to give give a game away to the children and uh Jerry, neither of us could perform. You know, that was on us. All right, we're going to go back to the topper here for a second. All right, that's good ball one. Ah, I stepped on my That's a really good ball one. That was a good ball one. I'm going to go uh Let's go up to rooftop. Here we go. Rooftop. I'll tell you right now, you got to be up top. All right. Jared only plays well. Yeah. What was the uh I don't think I've given you an incentive for a magic pack. I think the only incentive is leave your house and come play pinball. No, you have magic packs right over there. I'm saying you have Have you been incentivized? All right. Look, I Here's the great thing about pinball right now. Oh, that was twisted. There's so many good manufacturers and games and stuff and they're all a little bit different and it comes down to vibes. Vibes. If you ain't vibing with this game, that's fine. Doesn't make a bad game cuz there's so many dang good games right now. Luckily, yes. We are in we are in a golden era of just all these games that are real fun. Yeah. The issue is which one of all of the great games should I be buying? Bill's back. He's hydrated. Hydrated. Oh, his set points aren't on yet. Is that Slash? Bill, we had a guy in chat who said he's a uh he would love to get into pinball programming. He's currently a um slot machine programmer and I know there's there might be some crossover there. I've worked in slot machines for a long time. Yeah, definitely. What's the main langu is it C++ or what's the main language you write you write code in? Uh we use C++ for our games at at Jersey Jack. Yeah. Um and the uh the games run on Abuntu Linux. So advance. Perfect. Steve MCC really struggle between this and Yukon Yeti but show Sonic. I think you're going to enjoy it. I really think I don't I mean when those people ask that that um I just realized this light is green, yellow, red. It's like a stop light. That's straight up. Um that's Yeah. Uh so you know Go ahead. Well, answer his question first. So you No, then it's just some people you know they're this or Harry Potter. this or Harry Potter. And uh I've always just said, "Well, what other game do you have?" You know, because I just think if you already have like a super deep complex like I just think that's the thing about Harry Potter where Harry Potter excels is you can attack it so many different ways. There's so much depth and content you just keep going and you know focus on this or focus on that. But it's like if you already have that type of game and you just want a game where it's just just play fast, just immediate fun, immediate satisfaction, that's where this game I think shines, then uh I really really like that. Um but yeah, I don't know. Is it I mean obviously you've done a really good job, Bill, explaining this code or this complexity that you've that's here in the game. It's just not apparent like it's not in your face. It's it's uh it's more there if you know it's there and I I think that's awesome. But that's like a design choice, right? To kind of Oh. Oh, definitely. Definitely. Yeah. Make it. Um and there's there's definitely um some style of games that I I am not a fan of. Um, you know, a a strictly mode based game that forces you to do everything in order every single time. Yeah. Uh, I very quickly get bored of those games. Um, not, you know, not that there are aren't some out there that are fun. Um, but um I think that Sonic and and um certainly most of the games I worked on at JJP um better fit my style where it's you know you choose your path, you choose um choose your adventure. Yeah. And I also like how you don't have to hit us. You don't have to hit a scoop to start the first level or no, you know, there's no there's no in between stage of like, well, you're not in your next level yet cuz you haven't qualified your next level yet, you know, like no, you're just go fast. You're in one, you're in the next, you know? Yeah. I didn't know if that was going to work. Um cuz we we started off um I think we started off with there was a way you had to actually start the level. Um, but it that kind of flowed more from the, you know, the Sonic world where, you know, once he starts running, he's always running. And I kind kind of felt that's the way the game should work. When you pull the plunger, you're going. You don't have to you don't have to think about it. Okay. So, um, I I think it works really well here. Um but it, you know, it it kind of hides the fact that a mode's running cuz it's it's it's there when you pull the plunger. Yeah. Um but those those are seven seven unique modes that all have different rules. Yeah. So Well, and they don't feel like modes. No, they feel like levels. Like Right. Crazy idea. Got a sanic. All right. I can't get the beast stick open. So, I'm Oh, no. I'm getting mad. I'm getting angry. Angry at the beast stick. You can tear. You got I know you can do this, bro. I know you can do it. You have scissors. There we go. No, I don't. No, that would be dangerous. All right, here we go. Oh, there it is. Get it, Bill. That's great. Well, if you want to be cool like Bill and you want yourself a beast Winsel's farm. A use pinball. They are very good. That's the jalapeno one, right? Yeah. It's not super spicy, either. Okay. All right. I got to finish this mode. So, I think you you mentioned it, Bill. This is pulling footage from Sonic Generations, like a specific game or just they got this stuff lying around. Send you guys. They said they recorded some. Yeah, we well we went through um we went through and and requested a bunch of um recorded video from Sega. Okay. Um and um and then supplemented with stuff that we recorded ourselves to fill in some other parts. Okay. Um, and we we planned out for every level, you know, we tried to choose levels that represented what we thought were people's favorite things about Sonic. Uhhuh. So, of course, we had to have Green Hill. Yeah. Um, we'd have we wanted to try to have some mix of games that were sidescrollers and games that are more like the newer Sonic, which are more 3D, you know, open world type games. Um, um, you know, Steve drew the plate field with seven rectangles on it, so he had to come up with seven levels. Okay. Yeah. Um, Steve, why'd you do seven? Uh, eight wouldn't fit. You know, it's like, you don't like it. Dang it. Move the game. Um, so it was, you know, it was a mix of what levels we could get that we could, you know, have enough to work with. Yeah. Um and ones that are, you know, ones that people could recognize because if we chose all these, you know, esoteric kind of way out there levels that nobody had heard of. Yeah. Um I I think we would have even though they, you know, they maybe would have worked better for a pinball game, it still would have missed on what people expect to find in a Sonic. Yeah. So, well, we got I think one more giveaway here. So, another Remember this is you're getting a t-shirt, signed uh little banner flyer, another another flyer, a keychain pack, a little Sonic figure, and um a beef stick. Yeah. So, if you want to be a part of the giveaway, you need to type in Robotnik Robotnik. And we're going to pull two uh we're going to pull two winners here. I think we have one large and one XL left and one of something left. So, I don't know. So, let's go. I haven't been paying attention. All right. So, the first winner of that stuff is Valley. Valley 89. 89. Good. Are you a Valley girl? Valley. Are you from Valley? The Valley girl. Valley. Why we go? Why are we going valley? I'm very curious. Valley. Are you here? The end of the night. Okay. So, Valley, congrats. Steve MC, this is his first game back in the hobby. Sounds awesome. That good. Awesome. Steve, who's not an MC from Not a Mike band. All right. The next winner. The next winner of the goodie bag from generously provided to us from JJP is boom. Nikki Zeke. Nikki Zeke, are you here? Do you want a large or an XL? You have one. Are you surprised? You're getting a pro beef stick. That's happening regardless. They're so good. They are good. I'm I'm about to crack into another one. Also, to shell Zack flipping out. He's pretty cool. Yes. Pinball machine. Pin Monk, thank you for everything you've done. What do you love Pinball? Winsel's Farms, thank you for that. Bill, obviously, I know you're not on screen right now. Thank you for being here. Nikki Zeke, you're welcome. Nikki Zeke, are you here? Rinsler, I know the Rinsler pinball's here. Come on, Nikki. So, do you know that Flo Rya's name spells Florida and he's from Florida. All right, Jared, here's the deal. We have roughly 20 minutes left and I want this to be the last game. I want both of us to just blow it up. Blow it up. It's a lot of pinball. You can do it. Blow it up. Okay, we're going to start on Jared facts. That's what Okay, we're going to have one more giveaway. One more giveaway at the end of this game. Uh, we need one more word. What are we thinking, Bill? Oh, I got to think of another word. Huh? We need one more. Trying to think of one. I think Tails is a great name. I We Sonic character, Tails. No, because I was thinking about Tails too much. Let's do How does Tails fly? No one knows. All of you. We need a good one here. What do you mean? He spins his tail to fly. Come on. It makes sense. Let's do uh chili dog. That's a great one. Chilly dog. Chilly dog, one word. Done. Chilly dog reset entries. Boom. Let's go. Chili dog, one word. CI ly. How's JJP instituted chili dog Fridays in honor of the Santa Cl? Well, you know, uh, Portillos is this kitty corner from our building. We can get a chilly dog at any Friday we want. Nice. So, yeah, I um I eat way too many lunches there. Portillos. Way too many. Now, if you get a chili dog at Portillos, is that a business expense? Now, sounds like research. Could be. Uh, Bill, could we could we talk to you for a second? Um, why have you had a thousand chili dogs in the last year? Yeah, research. Oh, okay. Okay. Extensive research. I needed a really Yeah, I'm not seeing a chili dog insert, though. So, you missed an opportunity to really commit to it being research. Yep. Joel, how did you put in chili dog? Was it with an I or a Y? Oh, no. I wrote it. Oh, dear. Did I spell it wrong? I don't know. What? C H I L L Y. D O G. Wrong. That's wrong. Yo, chilly dog. Okay, we're just rolling with it at this point. I'm an idiot. That's fine. C H I L L Y because that's what somebody in chat wrote and that's what I saw. My soul. Yeah. Joel, you are from you are born not born and bred in northern Indiana, but you got enough Northern Indiana roots in you to know there is no Y in a chili dog. Come on. Uh, spelling was never my strong. But it's chili dog. It's a cold dog. Okay. No, it is not a cold dog, man. All right, Bill. What are we going to do with this guy? Doesn't even know how to spell church. Hopeless. Uh, well, yeah. I'm I don't claim to be any expert on spelling either. So, there's probably a little bit of dyslexia, but yeah. Are there uh errors in the code that just kind of stay there because we're like, well, that's how we're writing that. Oh, there's Yeah, there's there's lots of places where it's mullet ball instead of multiball. Mullet. Yeah. And uh ta Taylor Taylor uh pointed out someplace today where I typed JP instead of JJP. So yeah, sounds like uh sounds like it's good we got Taylor roaming around now to keep an eye on what's going on here. Hey, as as someone that has some uh some younger compadres in the office, it's nice their brains are are softer and smoother. You know, figure that stuff out. It helped me out a lot, too. So, JPP JP Nope, not our company. Uh, so there's a question about classic Sonic power-ups. Uh, yes, there are some powerup type stuff coming. Um, uh, I think there'll be some from either the, um, uh, think the cat fishing or from the Emerald Powers. There'll definitely be some stuff like that coming. Okay, sorry guys. It's C H I L L Y D O G. It's totally wrong. So, for all the people spelling it the right way, it hurts my soul. I'm sorry on how wrong Joel is. Sorry. All right. So, if I had an emerald, I would want to lock in that jackpot value. That makes total sense. You had an emerald. Yeah. 15 million would have been good. Not finished yet. All right, he's down. Stay down. There it is. And I love I love things that kill the flippers. Love it. All right, I got D or multiball over there. Marty and chemical plant. That was not what I wanted. Not a bad ball one. Chili cheese dog. That's what I What was the dog and suds? Dog and suds. We don't have Have you ever had that, Bill? Dog and suds. Yes. Yep. That you know um they had uh rip beer too, right? Yeah. Oh yeah. That's the suds. Yeah. I don't think no dog and suds anymore. And no more um what was the uh long john silvers? They went away too. I love long silver. Getting the hush puppies. I miss the hush puppies. But when you go long john silvers, if you I would always go the one fish, one chicken and you know when you get your basket and you can't visually tell which one's the fish and which one's the chicken, you know, it makes you wonder. It makes you wonder. Oh, there's some there's some delicious. It was It was so good. Long John Silver, Fin Monk. Long John Silvers was very good trash. it. What? That's really, let's be real. Yeah. Fish and planks pretty much. Now, one step too far just said Skyline Chili is the way to go. And if I take my shirt off, what are you about to see? Oh, yeah. A Skyline Chili t-shirt. Ready to Skyline Chili is legit. I don't Somebody's going to be in here and say gold scars. Gold star is the only way. Why would you put brown meat on spaghetti? Have you Have you had Skyland chili, Bill? I don't think I have. It's uh Ohio. They It's been brought into brought into Indiana. Skyland is gross. No. Wrong. No. The shirt is spelled wrong. It's spelled chili. There's no Y. You are correct. You did point that out that I spelled that. Where is it? Chili. Yeah. Okay. Poutine is better than Sky and Chili. That's That's apples and oranges. Poutine is fries. Brown gravy and a little overrated, dude. Poutine's legit. Have you had that pill? You had poutine? Oh, yeah. Oh, that's What's thoughts on that? Um, it's, you know, there's a whole list of things that if you put it in front of me, I just can't stop eating it. So poutine is one of them. Yeah, it's definitely one. You know, French fries. Barbecue is another. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So, French fries, brown gravy, and cheese curds. Oh, baby. It's so good. One eating. Uh, Alexa off, dude. Skyland chili, man. I would I would scarf some of that down right now. What makes me happy is my my children like it. Long John Silver would sneak up a house if you're one of the eaters. No. Yeah. You eat your long john silver in your car. That's where you consume long john silver. Yeah. How does it ever make it to the house? It's gone before you get there. And remember at the bottom of the basket was all the extra fried crunchies. Crunchies. Yep. I I have figured out that you either are like a Long John Silver person or you never want to eat them. There's no there's no like, oh, I'll casually eat some Long John Silver. No, my wife thinks it's legit trash. Like, my wife hates it. When when we had one nearby and that was a um there were times where it's like, "Oh, she's busy. I'm going to feed myself and I just happen to see it." I'm like, "Oh, yeah. I'm I'm treating myself to small silver. They don't have them anymore, do they? I got my 100 rings. They're rarer and rare. Nice. All right, let's get this loop. Nope. Further later on this got Santa's lid. Nice. Bill's lucky though. He's real near upper. There it is. Which that's always a good time in my opinion. Yeah. Get that big beef. Big beef. Yep. There we go. That's one way to start multiball. There you go. All right, I'm going to How about Long John doesn't exist in Minnesota, but y'all do have fish fries on Friday nights. So, you all do some white fish pretty good up there. Minnesota does poutine, though, for sure. I don't know. Just poutine. Poutine's very heavy. It's just very heavy. Too heavy. Yeah, but Minnesota does cheese curds. Why would they not do That's good. I tell you, I'm mad at Culver's having such good cheese curds because it it's it's so bad. Freddy's is way better. Freddy's cheese curts better than Culver's. Sorry, Bill. We've hit the point of the of the stream. We're hungry. Apparently, we're done talking about pinball and we appreciate you and now we're going to have dumb comments on fast food. I just did the bash dash. Not bash dash. Yeah, bash dash. Bash dash. Bash. Hold that ball. It was very helpful. Was able to get some uh What is this song? Is this a song from the game? It's like somebody sing. Uh yes, it does. It doesn't matter. Yeah, this is a song from the game. Is that slash? No, I think this is a legit Sonic song. Yeah, this is a Sonic song. All right. Where do I I need to go? Right up the middle. Come on, Joel. So, you see the master emerald in the middle showing your progress towards that, too. Yeah, I had a few quarters of it. I was up top for a while earlier and yeah, I need two more lab ramps and I would have monster or master emeralds. It cool. That's two modes. This game does have Yes, the tunes in this game are quite fun and JJP has a great sound system. That sound that like and I don't I don't know how to describe that sound. It happens on the inlanes. Uh the first night I thought it was my dog barking. I'm like, what is that bark? Yeah, it's like a bark. I don't know what There we go. Oh, this is my favorite mode. Casino night. I love it.
