## Analysis

Kaneda speculates that Barrels of Fun may have orchestrated a deliberate misdirection campaign around their next game, which has been rumored to be Bon Jovi-themed. After re-examining how he received the "Bon Jovi" information from a source at Barrels, he now believes it was planted intentionally to manipulate community expectations. He suspects the actual next game could be something entirely different (Never Ending Story, He-Man, Goonies, Beastie Boys, or another property) and praises Barrels' marketing savvy if true.

### Key Claims

- [MEDIUM] A source at Barrels of Fun told Kaneda about a Bon Jovi pinball game two weeks ago on the eve of Barrels' next game announcement — _Kaneda recounts direct conversation with his source; source has been 'almost always right' historically but Kaneda is now questioning the reliability and context of this particular information_
- [MEDIUM] Barrels of Fun employee told Kaneda's source the information in a way that suggests intentional misdirection, asking proactively 'don't you know what the next theme is' rather than volunteering information — _Kaneda analyzing the conversational structure and phrasing used by Barrels of Fun employee when revealing the Bon Jovi information_
- [MEDIUM] Kaneda believes Barrels has deliberately leaked the Bon Jovi rumor to media outlets to lower expectations before revealing the actual game — _Kaneda's interpretation of industry behavior patterns and marketing strategy, supported by observation of Pinside/Facebook discussions_
- [MEDIUM] Barrels has Goonies-related imagery ('pirate ship') all over their factory — _Kaneda's observation noted as potential evidence the actual game could be Goonies-themed, not a music pin_
- [MEDIUM] The next Barrels game will be revealed at Southern Fried Gaming Expo according to their reserve program timeline — _Kaneda's understanding of Barrels' announcement schedule_
- [LOW] Labyrinth and Dune Pinball were obscure/unpopular theme choices that sold poorly initially — _Kaneda's opinion ('nobody wanted') used to argue Barrels would be willing to make weird choices like Bon Jovi_
- [LOW] Multimorphic's next game is not attracting buyers — _Kaneda's brief closing comment, stated as definitive but without supporting evidence_

### Signals

- **[rumor_hype]** Kaneda now believes the Bon Jovi pinball rumor was an intentional misdirection campaign orchestrated by Barrels of Fun to lower expectations before revealing the actual game (confidence: medium) — Analysis of how the information was conveyed by Barrels employee; timing relative to reserve program and Southern Fried Gaming Expo announcement; observations of Goonies imagery in factory and industry discussion patterns
- **[machine_intel]** Barrels of Fun's next game theme is unknown but rumored candidates include Bon Jovi (music pin), Never Ending Story, He-Man, Goonies, Beastie Boys, Grateful Dead, Journey, or another property entirely (confidence: low) — Kaneda's speculative analysis; community discussion; factory imagery observation; no official confirmation
- **[product_strategy]** Barrels of Fun allegedly using misdirection and rumor amplification through community personalities and media to generate FOMO and manage expectations before reserve program and official announcement (confidence: medium) — Kaneda's theory about how the Bon Jovi leak was structured and timed; acknowledgment that Barrels hasn't denied the rumor despite potential reserve program impact; parallel to successful marketing playbooks
- **[community_signal]** Community sentiment on Bon Jovi theme is overwhelmingly negative, with members preferring Never Ending Story or other alternatives; this negative reaction could be intentional to make actual reveal more impactful (confidence: high) — Kaneda notes 'everybody hates it' and 'everybody's thinking it can't be Bon Jovi'; community would be 'welcomed' by almost any alternative
- **[market_signal]** Barrels of Fun reserve program is timing for next game reveal at Southern Fried Gaming Expo; reserve customers are potentially being rewarded with early/exclusive announcement knowledge versus community speculators (confidence: medium) — Kaneda mentions reserve program timeline and Southern Fried Gaming Expo as announcement venue; speculation about strategic silence from Barrels as reward mechanism
- **[content_signal]** Kaneda acknowledges his podcast and other media outlets (Pinside, social media) have generated free marketing for Barrels through Bon Jovi speculation and misdirection conversation (confidence: high) — Kaneda explicitly states 'I think we've done all of the marketing for barrels for free' and recognizes that media outlets discussing Bon Jovi serve Barrels' interest regardless of truth
- **[industry_signal]** Kaneda claims Multimorphic's next game is not attracting buyers; suggests potential market weakness or reception issues for the manufacturer (confidence: low) — Brief closing statement 'no one's buying the next game from Multimorphic' with no supporting detail or context
- **[gameplay_signal]** Closing reference to Guns N' Roses, Godzilla, and Back to the Future positions these as reference points for game quality/precedent; implies Kaneda is evaluating new releases in comparison (confidence: low) — Final comment listing three games as context-setter before sign-off; unclear specific gameplay relevance
- **[leak_detection]** Kaneda's source at Barrels of Fun has been historically reliable ('almost always right') but the context and timing of Bon Jovi information raises questions about deliberate leak vs. misdirection (confidence: high) — Kaneda's re-examination of how and when the information was conveyed; source's own uncertainty when re-contacted ('turning more into like a maybe')
- **[design_philosophy]** Barrels of Fun has history of unconventional/niche theme selection (Labyrinth, Dune, Winchester Mystery House) supporting theory they would attempt bold choices like Bon Jovi or equally risky alternatives (confidence: medium) — Kaneda's observation that Barrels' past releases suggest willingness to take thematic risks; counter-argument that this makes Bon Jovi plausible despite community rejection

## Transcript

I'm going down in a blazing lonely, take me down for no tune. Why do Bon Jovi songs just work so perfectly with this podcast? I'm here to tell you, I'm not sure. I think we might all be getting duped by barrels of fun. I mean it, you know, because I went all in on these cards. I pushed them all, said, hey, it's Bon Jovi. And my source said, yes, it's Bon Jovi. And you know what I did is this morning I reached out to my source again and I said, hey, you know, how confident are you now? And now it's turning more into like a maybe I think it is. And I'm like, wait a minute. Wait a minute. I trust you. With this kind of information and he's almost always right. So I asked, I said, wait, wait, wait, explain to me when you were told Bon Jovi and you know what he said now? Two weeks ago. All right, right up on the eve of Barrels' next game, he's being told this. But I dive deeper and I should have done this before, baby. I should have done this before. I still think it's a music pin, but that might even be a misdirect from Barrels. Okay, so I asked him, I said, hey, how did it come up in the conversation? And by the way, this information is coming from somebody at Barrels of Fun, okay? So now I'm like, oh, okay, well, tell me, what was the context? You know what he says? He says, well, we were talking, and then the guy goes, and you know what the next theme is, right? And I'm like, wait, that sounds like a total sort of proactive way to misdirect somebody. Like I am now feeling like these two guys aren't like buddy buddies where they're going to tell each other the truth. And the fact that the barrels employee is bringing up to my source, you do know what the next title is, don't you? No, nobody knows what the next title is. That's the way they run their operation. And then he says, it's Bon Jovi. It's a music pin. I think that's what he said first. He goes, it's a music pin. And the guy's like, okay. And he's like, well, you know, but I can't tell you what music pin it is. That was the way the conversation went. And then the guy's like, come on, man, tell me, tell me, man. It's okay. You know, you can trust me. You know how we all are in this pinball sort of hobby when we try to keep secrets. You can trust me. I won tell anybody And then you tell everybody And then he says well it Bon Jovi And I like oh what What That is how you heard this information That is how you heard for the first time that Barrows is making Bon Jovi That was the context And when I heard that and the scenario I like first of all man don ever tell me that you know what something is if you get it like that And now I'm like, look, I know, I know, like, Canada's going to roll with all of these leaks the way I always roll with all of these leaks. So now I'm like, man, I don't even feel like any of this might be true now. I don't even feel like it might be. I don't think it might be a music pin. I think it could be something completely else, the way they have the Goonies pirate ship all over their damn factory. I think now they might be just loving this. I think David Van Esen team might actually be loving that they've actually used Kaneda to manipulate the misdirection or actually create the misdirection on this entire thing. What better guy to go to than me? What better guy to go to and give false information than Kaneda? Now, here's the thing. I still think it could be Bon Jovi. And this is fun, man. I love guessing like this. I love actually sometimes going all in because to me, like going all in on Bon Jovi feels like a hand of poker in which you're going all in on pocket two, three with unmatching suits here. Like, I don't know, man. And the response to Bon Jovi has been so bad, right? I mean, everybody hates it. Everybody's thinking it can't be Bon Jovi. And then when you think about it, man, from a marketing standpoint, what better thing to do than to push everybody over to the Bon Jovi camp? Have everybody be angry and mad at you and thinking you're going to do the dumbest thing ever in pinball theme music selection history. And then you hit with something else. So then it becomes like, well, are they going to hit us with another music pin? Is it maybe Beastie Boys or Grateful Dead or the other ones? I know Journey was even a name we were floating out there. I don't know, man. I really don't know. Is it going to be never ending story? Heck, it could be He-Man. I mean, I'm at a point now where hearing that this is the way the barrels guy told the information to my source. I now think that these guys 100% have been leaking to media outlets that it's Bon Jovi. The other sort of clue I have to this is in the Kineticist Facebook post. You should go see this. When Colin asked, like Colin, I'm not even going to edit this show because it's like too early in the morning. I got to run to the train station. If I don't articulate right, you're just going to have to deal with it. Colin asked what do you think the next game from barrels is going to be And someone said I think it a music pin I think it was Jason Rufa Okay Jason Rufa said that Now this is a guy in the note And then Colin responded with a gif of Bon Jovi And I like oh man he knows it Bon Jovi too But now, knowing the way I got this information, I feel like, and the same way, like, I don't know, like David, not David, but Jason Knapp knows it's maybe a music pin. I think they might have orchestrated this entire thing, and it might have been the most beautiful, like, standing ovation, misdirect in the history of pinball marketing. And I will be the first to stand up and congratulate David David Van Es and team on this genius misdirect. Because if like if you think about it, like how easy would it have been? And this is all happening in the last week or two because the barrels reserve program is the timeline when the next theme is going to be revealed. They're going to Southern Fried Gaming Expo, I think, and they're going to show the next game. And so this could have been the most genius misdirect. And it's, you know, you know why I'm so excited now? And I don't care about the reputation loss of getting something wrong in the world because I always said this is a rumor. I haven't seen it. Yes, I still will lose a ton of credibility. Credibility, ladies and gentlemen, which I never had. The whole thing, the whole reason you're here, it's not because this man is the most credible. I am the most entertaining. And we've made this very, very entertaining. It is going to be so funny if we turned the freaking barrel thread into a Bon Jovi thread for a week. That's kind of funny. And I think because they've said nothing. See, at first I was like, man, they're saying nothing and they should say it's not Bon Jovi because people are signing up for the reserve thing and they're spending money on it. See, now the fact that they haven't said it's Bon Jovi, I think they're doing this on purpose. I think they want to reward the people who sign up for the reserve program in an extra special way so they can say, hey, if you listen to the if you listen to like Canada, you missed out. You should have just like trusted us. Did you think we were that stupid? But then I've got the other sort of like person in my ear saying, well, they did make Labyrinth and like Dune, which nobody wanted. And they did do this obscure theme. And if there's any company that's going to make a weird music theme like Bon Jovi, It is going to be barrels of fun. This is why I'm like, I can't wait to know if I'm right or wrong. I can't wait to know if this is a genius misdirect or not. But I think this is fun. I think this is insane. I'm like, I'm not even pissed at my source. I'm like this whole thing. Now that I see like the way they did it and how they said it I starting to feel like it a misdirect The good news is this for me If it a misdirect well done gentlemen Well done. Like you played me. You played into my enthusiasm. You also played into my lack of fact checking because I just like to go fast. When you go fast and you throw everything out there, it's fun. And we talk about it. Who cares? The people that think keeping pinball themes a secret, I don't get it. It's fun. We all know what's coming around the corner. And if we don't know, we will find out. But the whole thing around like we're keeping all these games secret, it's so stupid. That's not why you subscribe. You subscribe because we make it fun and we've made this week fun. In fact, I think we've done all of the marketing for barrels for free because if this is a misdirect, they utilize like this channel and Pinside and all the other people out there talking about Bon Jovi. This is perfect because then they've lowered our expectations and it is super, super easy now to make everybody go, phew, it's not that, it's this. And whatever that is, I think almost it could be anything else we've been thinking about would be welcomed. I mean, people are now saying like, I'd rather have never-ending story than Bon Jovi. So maybe this whole thing was just the only way you can launch a never-ending story is to get everybody thinking it's Bon Jovi. Well done, David. Now, if it is Bon Jovi, I'm just going to take all the credit and be like, I told you so. Kaneda can't lose because the entertainment's coming. I got to go to work. I think this is crazy. I can't wait to see what it is. All I know is this, no one's buying the next game from Multimorphic. It's not happening. Canada out. I'm going down in a blaze of glory. Godzilla, Guns N' Roses, Back to the Future. Thank you.
