## Analysis

Jack Danger and lead software engineer Waison Wang provide a comprehensive gameplay overview of Stern Pinball's The Uncanny X-Men, demonstrating core mechanics including mission selection, Sentinel combat, multiball modes (Sentinel Multiball and Cerebro/To Me My X-Men Multiball), the Days of Future Past narrative structure with past/future switching, and planned IC leaderboard challenges. The presentation emphasizes complex multiball design, the offset flipper layout's impact on playfield flow, and the integration of X-Men characters into mission-based gameplay.

### Key Claims

- [HIGH] There are three multiballs in The Uncanny X-Men: Sentinel Multiball, Cerebro/To Me My X-Men Multiball, and a third multiball later in the game tied to saving the city — _Jack and Waison explicitly count and name three distinct multiball modes during gameplay demonstration_
- [HIGH] Missions are initiated by hitting white shots and can be stacked with multiballs — _Waison describes mission advancement mechanics: 'any of the white shots will lead you to a mission advance'; Jack confirms multiball stacking: 'we can stack multiballs with this right'_
- [HIGH] Sentinels are represented by colored inserts on the playfield; players must destroy all inserts of the same color to defeat a specific Sentinel — _Waison explains: 'every Sentinel is represented by an insert of one color so you have to destroy all the inserts of the same color to destroy a Sentinel'_
- [HIGH] The game features a Days of Future Past narrative with past/future switching mechanic; X-Men saved in the past help the player in the future — _Jack describes future reveal: 'after two missions completed the future reveals itself'; Waison explains: 'any X-Men that you have that you save in the past will be available to help you in the future'_
- [HIGH] A planned IC (Insider Connected) feature will include Sentinel Rush leaderboard challenge where players destroy as many Sentinels as possible within a time limit — _Waison announces: 'later on there will be an IC challenge mode where called Sentinel Rush where players can try to destroy as many Sentinels as possible within a given amount of time'_

## Transcript

what's up internet Jack danger here from Stern Pinball joined by my lead software engineer Wason Wason how you doing good how are you doing today I'm fantastic today we're going to be showing you a broad stroke overview of the rules of The Uncanny X-Men and uh one of my uh stranger layouts I'm a big fan of just making the ball do weird things and I'm excited for you all to experience how this game shoots Wason do you have anything to add no we're here to play so let's play yeah let's get right into it so I'm going to hit start I'm going to start flipping around wasting is going to talk to you a little bit about what we're seeing and uh you're going to love it here we go so to start off the game the X-Men are in their City protecting it and you're here to help the X-Men all right so we got some missions to get to how do we start these missions so any of the white shots will lead you to a mission advance that would be one Jack on command that would be two of them and now we're in we get to select which missions we have let's go Bishop now right now you are protecting a Morlock from being attacked by a angry anti- mutant mob that's not fun at all no that's not cool so our buddy Bishop here is to help us out okay the uh The Sentinel just broke the wire form on me um oh it is dangerous you got to be careful about those Sentinels thanks to the magic of Center posts uh that ball is still with us so we're just uh you're protecting you're protecting the Morlock from being attacked uh the mob is charging you now and Bishop uh make some scatter and run so did I I just finish that mode yes you did that's how can go good job thanks W all right so um like Wason said we're going to hit these white arrows to light up another mission let's get control here oh the the sentinel's ready to do some stuff okay so he has anger to Sentinel and it is ready to attack him hit the right ramp the right ramp you got it where the blue arrow is all ramp oh this works too this works too okay so who do you want to help now Jack you know let's protect the the mansion from Juggernaut oh Juggernaut always trying to destroy the X Manion good thing the X-Men are here to stop him stopping a jugernaut you'll have to get through all of us so we're actually pretty close to a a multiball here too huh you are uh right now we let's focus on uh stopping J oh The Sentinel is attacking you okay so the senales are just show themselves they are present throughout your confrontations and they are here to stop you from doing your missions and you have to defeat them so Jack has very quickly defeated the Juggernaut later dude all right so now that I've completed two missions what's going to happen when I make a shop well cereb is very L for you okay so I'm seeing a cerebro billboard here uh on the right ramp and up that left ramp there so any of those will lead you cerebro cerebro's calling a door out of this wall oh what is going on here Jack the future welcome to the 21st century so Kitty as she's trying to help the X-Men out finds herself in the future suddenly oh extra ball that was unexpected all right so what am I doing here in the future right now the future doesn't look very good what happened to our city Jack well it looks like in the future everything's destroyed oh that's not good let's let's see if we can get out of here okay so how do I get out of here Wason Let's uh let's hit some white shots and see if we can find a way out of the city well hold on some some of the Sentinel inserts have turned there's a senel on the screen it's blocking your path that's not good no let's let's try to get around it or uh destroy it okay so how do I destroy it so every Sentinel is represented by an insert of one color so you have to destroy all the inserts of the same color to destroy a sentinel which I just did you did do that very good thanks thanks Let's uh let's try to lock ourselves in the future for now let's stay here for a second how do I do that so let's tap the button now you remain in the future which is indicated on the UI okay and what does that do for me so right now at any point you can return back to the pass but let's destroy a few more Sentinels and uh if too many Sentinels start showing up I think we should bail bail got it I like that future award centerst oh maybe we should have bailed earlier that's all right I should have bailed sorry I'm sorry internet um so that was two missions after two missions completed the future reveals itself to the X-Men beautiful and uh what what kind of fun stuff happens in the future so in the future uh we find that many of the X-Men are no longer with us um but we have the opportunity to go back to the past and save as many X-Men as possible as you can see here we are in the past uh I did not get out the legit way but we are back in the past but Kitty is desperately trying to save the future or change the past um any X-Men that you have that you save in the past will be available to help you in the future and they'll lend you their powers to make the future a little bit easier to get through oh we have more modes unlocked now so now the X-Men are aware of the things they need to do to save the future I want to see Colossus versus The Blob oh what what are those earthquakes Jack look at those cracks blob Colossus is here to protect the innocent from you from me oh from the from the from the blob unless you are the blob no I am not the blob glad we got that straight yeah so in every one of these missions the X-Men can have the opportunity to do things in a perfect manner so right now Jack has red lights Jack has drained uh listen I could slap the game to save it or I can try to trust the center post but man systems all right internet I'm going to show you Sentinel multiball which is the multiball closest to the flipper button we just got to beat the heck out of the big bad right up the middle The Sentinel there so right now the Sentinel is underground and remains hidden it will Jack has alerted it to our presence and now it is attacking us oh it's my fault it's my fault we were alerted internet listen it's been a while since I've talked and recorded in a while I'm getting rusty so when the player is alerted to the when the Sentinel is alerted to the player's presence it will come out to attack right now it attacked um the ball and destroyed the bridge so that the ball fell onto the Playfield so if I shoot up this one ah so right now he's attacking you and launching the ball back at you cuz he's angry that we woke him up at% as as the player does damage to the Sentinel we've got a mission oo oh what mission should we choose Now Let's do let's Wolverine out yeah but we can stack multiballs with this right we can stack multiballs with this I like that all right so right now Wolverine is battling saber-tooth as often happens but Sentinels have no sense of propriety they will come out and attack you even though you are trying to stop other bad guys so two Sentinels have arrived on the scene the giant Sentinel has retreated for now so the goal here is for Jack to destroy the two Sentinels that have appeared the two Sentinels are represented on the play field by the inserts there is currently one red Sentinel and one orange Sentinel ready to Jack hased the option button I'm terrible at pinball all right here we go get up there acknowledged ooh wait what's this so this is an advance to to me my X-Men the professor is calibrating cerebro to summon the rest of the Xmen to help you out and how do we activate that lock right now cbro is activated by hitting a number of targets there will be you will see the cerebro billboard and insert light up when it is ready like it is now okay let's start to me my X-Men multiball quick question mark So I want to shoot the left ramp the right ramp or the danger room ramp correct that is correct okay any cerebral light so right now you have a mission to choose Let's Help uh our Buddy Lee leech is a Morlock that is currently under attack by anti- mutant mod and Bishop is here to help us well everyone's here to help us now the rest of the X-Men have been summoned by Professor X men so Professor has summoned all the X-Men to help so men use their powers to help with the mission at hand balls in the danger room and the main play field are a treat if you like to split where your eyeballs are looking here we go multiballs are particularly challenging in this one I love it oh it is so good there's so much more that you have to keep track of there get up there all right well I'm not going to blabber this too much so as we start up a new game here the player will help the X-men with their missions missions are started with by hitting the white shots and advancing towards a mission the player can also um battle the Sentinels by Awakening the giant Sentinel he's up now the giant Sentinel we have to destroy it and as we hit it it will start to take damage right now we have destroyed its jaw and if we continue to damage it it will Retreat from us all right however when it Retreats it will summon new Sentinels smaller ones to attack us all right so what am I looking for here I got the so the player so the player will attack Sentinels represented by The Sentinel inserts right now we have a purple one Sentinel and a white Sentinel to destroy don't worry and once we destroy those Sentinels the giant Sentinel will reemerge to attack us again ready for you the fun difficulty of this is like you could see what you want to hit but man multiball is just like it's crazy no shot bro yeah multiball is quite a challenge especially with the danger room present and right now that's you have destroyed enough of its smaller Sentinels that the giant Sentinel has returned so right now the giant Sentinel is the biggest threat to us it is attacking us it has destroyed the bridge that we were using to help us along and and unfortunately it has won this time but for you you will be able to destroy this giant Sentinel true and get to the Super Jackpot that is tiing all right so I have cerebro lights blinking Wason so cerebro will lead us to the next multiball to me my X-Men Professor X uses cerebro to summon uh the X-Men to help in any missions that we have going on so Jack will start a mission here or he will start so Jack has started to meet my X-Men multiball and as a player you will the X-Men have arrived to help you out so here they come now and they will lend you their powers to help in anything that you are doing I'm just upset that I didn't bring a mission into this multiball bringing a mission is definitely helpful when you summon the X-Men yeah cuz it helps you blast through it quicker oh yeah opticast love GL SM come here so everyone of the X-Men is eager to help I can attack with Myers if I use them just right use them just right oh Kitty you could help me bro oh man so how many multiballs do we have in this uh so there are three multi balls there are three multiballs in the game we have seen Sentinel multiball and we have seen to me my X-Men multiball but there's another multiball buried I shouldn't say buried there's another multiball later in the game and it is to save the city and the X-Men love this city is the city they live in and the city they protect and they are responsible for oo saber two sorry bud Ming with the Wolverine you'll mess with the Wolverine that's what happens for no oh man Shing you want to start another let's start another mission okay I'm fully so Wason what do we got planned for Insider connected on this bad boy so right now if you haven't gotten enough of Sentinels and who has I mean they're dangerous they're mean they're giant robots but if you haven't had enough of Sentinels um later on there will be an IC challenge mode where called Sentinel Rush where players can try to destroy as many Sentinels as possible within a given amount of time and there will be leaderboards that will represent how many Sentinels you destroy and who's the best Sentinel Hunter Sentinel Hunter heck yeah well The Sentinel just whooped my butt Internet thanks for watching this high level broad stroke uh just giving you an overview of the rules here hopefully you like what you see and we can't wait for you to play it soon yeah hopefully you'll be able to see you soon we're excited for you to play thanks friends
