## Transcript

Hey guys, pretty bummed out right now, dude, not gonna lie. I mean, Wave 1 arcade cabinets are come and gone, and there's a ton of room for improvement with those things, so it's like modding heaven, and then Wave 2 comes, and they decide, oh, let's put lit marquees on, and let's do Mortal Kombat. It's like, well, what about me, man? I need stuff to do. I've been modding all these cabinets all this time, and what am I going to come up with next? It's like, unless I come up with some genius idea or think of a game that hasn't been done before, I'm kind of stuck. I just need, like, some creative spark. If I could just think of one cabinet to do right now. Hmm. Oh, I got a game. Oh, I got a game. You know, you can give me a lit marquee, a little golden tea, and all that, but guess what? Mortal Kombat, that's cool, though. I'm not going to lie. Mortal Kombat's cool. But there's one game you gave us a taste of. You said, hey, look into the trailer. We got something special. I'm going to take a little picture so you can see a little sliver of it. But we're not going to get it. You're not going to give it to us. Why? Why? Metro Ralph will give it to you. Metro Ralph wants to give it to you. So in this episode, Ed Boon shakalaka, let's do it. so all right guys let's dive into this thing so first of all i got a really cool find when i bought this original arcade board. It came with all the original manuals. And this is NBA Jam Tournament Edition, so it came with these really cool slicks that they maybe used in the arcade at some point, and then the original arcade topper which is really really neat And it came with all this literature about doing your own NBA Jam tournament within an arcade so really really cool because this was made with the original arcade printed circuit board. So as we pan up the system you'll see the graphics and artwork those are from arcade graphics and I'll tell you more about that put links in the description. The control panel is from DIY Retro Arcades. The graphics are obviously custom-made so that's pretty neat and then the sticker behind the control panel came from the original sticker kit so that's actually an original sticker that came off of the sticker kit on the original the lip marquee is by Scott Evans of links in the description to that I love Scott's work he makes one of the best marquees there is just keep in mind it looks a little washed out in the video it does not look like that in real life so side graphics look pretty sweet everything's pretty authentic and the t-molding is actually on the control panel is pretty neat too. That's a nice addition. That's DIY Retro Arcades. It does that. So let's swing around the back. We got two speakers mounted on the top and then you'll see there's a volume control knob. That's actually a potentiometer that came with the original printed circuit board, the arcade board, and that's actually a switch to turn on and off the marquee. As we scroll down here, you'll see the back of the cabinet. I added a power switch so you can turn on and off the whole entire cabinet from one switch. I will tell you that just be careful when you're cutting that hole out. And then there's some wires that I haven't cleaned up yet. Just pointing that out so you guys don't wonder what those are. All right, let's unscrew the back and open that guy up. So we'll unscrew this real quick and take a look inside, see what's going on. Like I said, I'm using the original arcade hardware, so pretty cool. And I got a really good deal with all that added you know bonus stuff that came with it that you just saw the topper and all that all right so as we move it out of the way you'll see that switch is mounted there and i have the power supply mounted just above it so everything plugs right into that it's nice neat and organized i'm going to add fans later i didn't have a time to do it before this video okay so my new favorite thing is mounting the lcd controller board uh behind there with motherboard mounts works so much better than double sticky tape so I'm gonna go with that from now on that is actually the sound board this board is huge that's the sound board on the NBA Jam and then that's the actual main board this was upgraded to tournament edition this was a regular NBA Jam that was actually upgraded with a ROM kit which is pretty damn cool so as we kind of go down here you'll see I tried to make the wiring neat that right there converts the arcade board video to something that a modern day monitor can understand so this is actually going from that to VGA into the controller board and then and then right into the monitor so pretty neat stuff pretty common for arcade stuff that actually the arcade powers collide tucked in the corner I don't have it mounted yet and that is a whole cut out for a future coin door again that's from Scott Evans too that front panel it comes cut out with the coin door so pretty cool there's the jama harness I used the press your buttons jama harness it's all english labeled which is pretty sweet so it makes it really easy to use and this is just a downward view of the joysticks. I used Zippy joysticks and I used... I don't remember the buttons I used actually but pretty good quality buttons. I tried to match the color scheme of the arcade and this right here is actually a service menu for the system. If you press that button and we swing around the front you can go into the audit menu and do lots of cool stuff here so you can do diagnostics, tests, you can check coin bookkeeping as far as how much money it's made if it was an original arcade you know if it was in the arcade you can look at that stuff you can also adjust some of the game settings kind of cool so you can adjust the cost of the game you can adjust um how much it how much it costs like i said free play the head size i don't know if you remember i don't know if you guys knew that but in the arcade you could actually the owner of the arcade could go in and manipulate that stuff they could also change how difficult the computer is and then um you could do things like tournament mode on and off which is pretty neat and then attract mode is really cool so track mode plays sounds in the arcade when like you walked by the machine it didn't use a sensor it just went on periodically so just kind of attract people to go up to the machine so kind of cool stuff and now that we're done with this we'll go ahead and i'll show you some gameplay and then we'll wrap things up all right guys i apologize in advance for um the glare there's a little bit Alright, let's do this. I'm gonna go old school Chicago Bulls. Let me put the volume up a little bit. Hopefully that's not too loud for you guys. Alright, I'm sorry for the glare by the way. There's gonna be a little bit of glare just because it's hard to get the lighting right in here. Alright, let's do it! Yeah! One thing I loved about this game is just at the time I remember being such a Chicago Bulls fan It was just fun to play these games Shoot By the way oh shoot come on yeah one thing that I wanted to add when I did this mod is I had I had my buddy print the control panel because I wanted it to have the basically the what the action buttons were like shoot, block, pass, and steal just because the kit that I found online didn't have that, so I had this custom made. I can't remember, guys, if the big heads were by default in the arcade. I remember doing it on consoles, but I don't really remember if in the arcade they had big heads turned on. I just can't remember that. Ooh, tied game. Oh! You forget how fun this game was. Seriously, I just remember playing the crap out of this game. I want to say I played the Genesis version. I want to say I played the Genesis version. I can't remember on the console. Ah, man. Alright, I think I can get off a shot. Shoot. Come on, hit that. Dang it No We're tied up No, no No No, no, no Oh my gosh, what is it? The three points Come on Hit the three, dude Ah, shoot I'm gonna lose this game. No! No! No! Alright, there you have it, guys. NBA Jam. Super fun. If you like this video, please like the video. Please subscribe, and I want to hear your comments below. This one was a really fun modification. I love this game. I forgot how much I liked it. It's too bad that we didn't win the game, but whatever. anyways um we'll see you on the next one guys take care
