TL;DR

Kaneda critiques D&D/Evil Dead designs and Stern's LE strategy while speculating on upcoming pins.

Summary

Kaneda hosts a Saturday Morning Spectacular livestream discussing D&D and Evil Dead pinball machines, offering detailed critiques of Stern's design choices, pricing strategy, and Limited Edition tier model. He expresses concern about Stern's ability to sustain sales between cornerstone releases and speculates on upcoming titles including potential Dune from Barrels of Fun and Harry Potter from Jersey Jack.

Key Claims

  • D&D features one of Stern's greatest mechanical designs and is more creatively integrated than Avatar, John Wick, or Jaws

high confidence · Kaneda's personal gameplay and review analysis during livestream

  • D&D LE has 740 units produced, more than Ghostbusters, Batman, and Metallica LEs combined

high confidence · Kaneda cites specific production numbers during discussion of LE strategy

  • Stern's LE model is broken because Premium with custom cosmetics (powder coat, gold armor, toppers) is cheaper and better than LE by $3,000+

high confidence · Kaneda's analysis of three-tier pricing economics

  • Avatar launched code-complete in October/November and no players have articulated a single magical moment or feature worth mentioning in four months

medium confidence · Kaneda's observation of community sentiment; opinion-based assessment

  • American Pinball is hiring line workers, suggesting they are still in production but may not be ready to launch Cuphead soon

medium confidence · Kaneda references seeing hiring post; indirect inference about project status

  • Stern needs to release a remastered game (Ghostbusters or Tron) between D&D and King Kong to sustain sales

medium confidence · Kaneda's prediction based on Stern's historical strategy and market patterns

  • D&D and Evil Dead both target niche fanbases and will be easy to acquire, unlike mainstream titles like Godzilla

high confidence · Kaneda's market assessment based on theme and community response

  • Jersey Jack Avatar LE will depreciate to $6,000 value by year-end; CE will hold value at $8,000

low confidence · Kaneda's speculative price prediction for secondary market

Notable Quotes

  • “this is the greatest one of the greatest mechs Stern has ever made and they have to be applauded for that and this game embarrasses on a mech and a toy level and a theme integration level games like Avatar games like John Wick games like even Jaws”

Kaneda @ ~8:30 — High praise for D&D mechanics while establishing baseline for comparing recent Stern releases

  • “the Halcyon days were when LEs were $8,500 and there was 500 at most. That was like the greatest. everybody's games held value everybody's games went up a little bit”

Kaneda @ ~24:45 — Kaneda establishes historical LE model as reference point for critique of current pricing/production strategy

  • “I think 500 should just be the number on everything, regardless of popularity... you want there to be a feeding frenzy to get your hands on an LE make it mean something again”

Kaneda @ ~28:30 — Prescriptive recommendation for Stern's LE strategy based on scarcity principle

  • “The LE should be the game everyone fawns over. It should be like Metallica LE, Ghostbusters LE, Batman SLE... you shouldn't even have to explain why the LE is the one to get”

Kaneda @ ~32:00 — Articulates expectation gap between historical LE appeal and current D&D positioning

  • “I haven't seen anyone articulate a single, like, thing or moment that they really gush about... i think that's indicative of the kind of boring nature of the game”

Kaneda @ ~51:30 — Damning assessment of Avatar's post-launch reception based on community discussion silence

  • “Stern unlike Jersey Jack Stern needs... I don't think D&D keeping that machine going for the next three four months... they're gonna probably maybe do that Ghostbusters between now and or Tron”

Kaneda @ ~45:00 — Suggests Stern may need to rerun established IP to bridge gap until King Kong release

  • “I would put $15,000 down right now for a Toy Story 1 CE... The fact that we're never going to get the right Toy Story pinball machine is criminal”

Kaneda — Expresses strong opinion on missing licensing opportunities in pinball market

sentiment_shift: D&D and Evil Dead praised as creative but recognized as niche appeal; neither expected to match mainstream title sales velocity like Godzilla

high · Kaneda: 'I think we got two of the best theme integrated games we've seen in a really long time. Unfortunately, they're based on themes that aren't really what people want... they're going to be easy to get... they're targeting a much more niche fan base'

competitive_signal: Spooky's single-SKU model (888 units, one art package) positioned as superior to Stern's three-tier LE/Premium/Pro complexity for niche titles

high · Kaneda: 'Spooky Pinball's model of one game, one art package, one topper, one this, one that... everyone who buys an Evil Dead is going to have the same awesome looking game... Works a lot better for Spooky than it does for Stern'

I got to get a new cable. It keeps unplugging on this damn microphone. That's my issue. This happened before. I feel like they make the cables extra cheap. Let's let everybody know in the chat where to go, on Facebook where to go. Happy Saturday morning, everybody. New pin week, always fun. Always fun to see a new game. We got a lot to talk about, a lot to talk about in the world of pinball. Oh, let's see. Let's tell everybody. Come on. Come on in. We live. All right. I feel like Facebook, the way the algorithm works, it's annoying. They won't show your fans everything. How's everybody doing? Good morning, everybody. I've been up since five in the morning give you guys a little rundown of a morning day canada five in the morning wake up took a hot bath gotta be honest red pin side red facebook watch the dnd videos again i wanted to just get a refresher on the entire game i then had to wake up at 6 30 killian came downstairs, put on Paw Patrol. And then at 6.30, I also wake up baby Cassian and feed him nine ounces of milk, stays up to 8.30, made breakfast for Killian, cleaned the kitchen. And then I did a podcast from basically 8 o'clock to 8.30, then edited the show quickly, got it up, went to the Jim and here we are now non-stop non-stop making pinball content for everybody out there I hope you enjoy it I enjoy making it I enjoy making it um I think there is uh no other community quite like the Kaneda community the consistency by which we talk about stuff we don't shill anything you don't see me put in distributor emails like I see some of these content creators it's like Are they in the back pocket of distributors or what? Like, are they getting kickbacks again? Has that started up again? You know, like, oh, man, I don't understand it. I don't understand it. At least let everybody know if that's the case. Wait, went so hard. Let's see. Walt Woods reaction video. yeah it was really funny I I'd never even seen that guy make videos before but look I'll say this we need more people like Walt just going off and I don't think it's never gonna be my platform to do that it's it's just not my style but it's awesome and it's fun to see people reacting that way and I Look, we all should be getting a good laugh out of all of these overpriced toys and these companies' desires to get us to make silly financial decisions. It's interesting. I think if you listen to my podcast this morning, and it's free for everybody, I'm going to post it here now. I just want to make sure everybody understands that you can listen to this even if you're not a member of the Kaneda Club. Please share it with your buddies. I think it's a great way to get your friends to join canada's pinball podcast just share this with them and say hey like i think you'd really enjoy this guy talks about pinball two to three times a week and it's um it's gonna work well i don't know why people are like oh they're mad that i'm on youtube why why what's wrong with here what's wrong with being here versus facebook i i get that people want me to be on facebook but i don't know i might go back to facebook i haven't figured out how to monetize it here and that that sucks because i'm actually losing a lot of money i used not a lot of money i mean i've never made a lot of money doing any of this but i'm losing some money like a few hundred bucks a month not being on facebook because of facebook stars uh and i'm not i i don't know i i tried to monetize this i requested to for them to allow me to be monetized and i don't know if if they approved it or not. I don't think so. I still don't see it. I'm mad you're not on MySpace. So there's a link to the podcast, everybody. Please share it with your friends and let's get more people in the community and listening to Canada's Pinball Podcast. A lot of thoughts, right, on D&D. A lot of thoughts on D&D. I've been thinking more about it. I've been thinking about the efforts Stern put into the game. To summarize what I said on my show this morning not not i'm not going to give as much detail but this is the greatest one of the greatest mechs stern has ever made and they have to be applauded for that and this game embarrasses on a mech and a toy level and a theme integration level games like avatar games like john wick games like even jaws really i mean the shark imagine if the shark did that imagine if the shark was much more interactive and much more complex. Imagine how much cooler it would be to battle Jaws if he had a lot more life in him, you know, right, not just like a rubber ducky popping up. So I think the takeaway I have on this game is that Stern Pinball is putting more into mechanisms and creativity. And obviously this stuff is harder to engineer and it's more expensive to incorporate. But prices are really high. And so I don't think we're there yet. I don't think we're there yet where the value in the game is worth the money they're asking for this stuff right now. But I do think that there's a lot to like about what's in this game. I don't find it any better than the T-Rex. Well, here's the thing, Keith. You don't bash the T-Rex. it's not as dynamic as the t-rex the t-rex is cool don't get me wrong but i i think this is even cooler and that's good like it's taking nothing away from the t-rex the pro is a lot of value you know you know what's funny i forgot to mention this on my show i'll mention it now when they went over all three models did you notice how they like purposely sandbag the pro and they're like well and the pro let you do some fun stuff too and it's like actually it almost lets you do everything doesn't the pro still does the pro have the dungeon entrance or not does it i don't know isn't a dragon's fire supposed to hurt you not help you i mean yeah yeah i mean like i don't know you know i don't know i don't know if like when that when it dragons fires balls at you is it it's is that how it gives you multiball so okay so the the dungeon entrance does not exist in the pro okay so no dungeon entrance and no a dragon firing balls at you look i i don't think i don't know like i i it's not a huge loss it's not a huge loss the dragon still does stuff still moves a little bit i think up and down but But overall, my feelings on D&D is this is an incredible world under glass. And I think they really nailed the theme integration. I think they really showed a lot more creativity and passion in this game than they have in previous games. I think it's a theme, though, that most people don't want. I don't think it's like a huge turnoff. But I think it's going to be harder to get into a D&D than it is to get into Godzilla, right? You didn't all want Godzilla. You didn't all want Iron Maiden. You didn't all want, I'm trying to think of another game that, you know, Foo Fighters. I just think it's going to be harder to get into this theme for a lot of you. Because I think the code is going to get quickly very D&D-like and very nerdy. and for some of you that'll be very appealing um but i think for a lot of you it might be a turnoff so i but again i i overall i think we have to be very happy with stern pinball's creativity in this game very happy i think they've made some weird decisions on the art packages of the game i don't like the art packages i think the le is the worst of the three and as i mentioned i think the red armor is atrocious and i think it looks pretty atrocious next to the art colors and i i just don't like it like it should have had and i mean this it should have had dungeons and dragons should have had brass plated armor, like brass against like red dragons and knights and wizards. And it should have it should have popped and they need to start making these Ellie's look much better than they do. And I think the Ellie on this game to me is like an easy pass. and I would have loved to have seen like a gold brass plated D&D that looked a lot more timeless and beautiful. Instead, I don't like what they did. And I think now, you know, if you don't really need an Ellie and I don't think the Ellie's mean anything and I don't think the Ellie is even like a good flex because the Translight's ugly. I think the premium is way cooler with the dragon on the side, that gold dragon. I think someone who powder coats a premiums armor and saves themselves, I mean, you're saving yourself more than $3,000. Think about that for a minute. And you're going to be able to put in inner art blades and get a topper and do the armor gold plated for much cheaper than a Stern LE. I just think that's the problem I see with the Stern three-tier model now, which was always predicated on the LE being a take-my-money-now game that everybody wanted to get their hands on. Even if you didn't want to keep it, you wanted to get your hands on a Stern LE because of what an LE signified. And those days are over. And so as I see that, I don't think the D&D LE is going to, I don't think they're going to sell this game out. I think L.E.'s are going to be waiting in boxes. They'll make all 740, but getting one won't be hard. It'll be a 10,000 game by the time King Kong comes out in four months. And that's it. But it doesn't take anything away from the game. Would you consolidate model tiers is what Colin said. Colin, no, no, but 740 is just too many see i i would have actually made like just 250 dnd le's i i just think the the way they're doing the le number because think about it like this it's like you're making more le's of this game than ghostbusters more le's of this game than batman more le's of this game heck than you know even metallica le and i just i just find that to be wishful thinking and it's not working out. And that's the thing is like, because there's 740 of them, it does just doesn't feel like the demand's even close to that. So I, yeah, at Pinball Valley, I agree. I look, I think 500 should just be the number on everything, regardless of popularity and, and just be okay with certain games being like a frenzy. You want there to be that. you want there to be a feeding frenzy to get your hands on an l1 le make it mean something again and i i again like they're just like reluctant now they're all over the board with their le numbers which i actually don't like colin i would consolidate the trippy voting um look everybody vote in the trippies at colin can you post the link here for everybody to go vote I voted live yesterday. I completely skipped over all the location play and I just thought there were some awards that, I don't know, I just got frozen of best pinball community member. I don't like that award. Talk about the most subjective award of all time where there's actually, like, it's weird when you do like community member, because like, what does that mean? Like, who's doing more for the community? Like, and all those people I'm sure are doing great things for the pinball community. So like no one should lose in a category like that. It's like best charitable pinball moment. Like what? Like, are we really, I don't know. I would just keep it more towards the games and you know, the personalities that are actually trying to entertain and not do good. Cause none of us are doing much good. Are we in the content space? uh if you win will you go well pinball vibes like i'm not gonna know i won until the show itself so that's what's always fun about the twippies is they never tell you if you if you win you you find out live like everybody else ed morris said the le is the same game except stuff you can add And yeah, you know, look, Ed, the whole notion of what an LE should be, they had it perfect. Honestly, the best, the Halcyon days, looking back on all of it, the Halcyon days were when LEs were 8,500 and there was 500 at most. That was like the greatest. everybody's games held value everybody's games went up a little bit and some games went through the roof if they were amazing you can't tell me that stern's cost of making these things has increased this much i'm sure their new factory is the issue and all the people working there and all the desks and mouths and families and square footage is like we're paying for that right you know i'm saying like we're paying for that expansion of stern but it but you know up until this game like we haven't really seen an expansion in creativity or an expansion in you know the physical stuff we love and i think a lot of the expansion we've experienced has been insider connected and software side of things but but even then like with all the expansion they've done they're still releasing games code incomplete so to me that doesn't work like if you're going to charge us this much more and grow this much bigger i don't want to see like games code incomplete i don't want to see x-men launches ever again where you know people have to buy now and wait to see if the game gets good. That's not fair to anybody. And that's just going to lose you customers. I know a lot of dudes who went in on X-Men LE and they're not happy. They're not happy. They've lost now $3,000 to $4,000. The game had promised, but now they're sad that it feels like it's not going to go in the direction they want it to. There's just frustrating fixes that aren't really fixing what's wrong with the game and they're just you know and then they feel burned because because now i can go get the same game they bought for three thousand to four thousand dollars less and in a lot of cases gang new in box like a lot of these games are sitting new in box like you put you put 10k on the table at a distro and they're taking it for that x-men le um fusion said dnd le has no sex appeal i agree i don't like it i think it's ugly i think it's ugly i think the translate is so weirdly the worst out of all of them and the pro translate is so much better with that dragon i it's just like weird like why like and you know why they're it almost feels like annoying why they're doing this is they're like well, we need to sell more premiums and pros, so let's not put the best on the LE. I'm sorry, but the LE should be the game everyone fawns over. It should be like Metallic LE, Ghostbusters LE, Batman SLE. LEs should have a level of like, you shouldn't even have to explain why the LE is the one to get. It should just be that much nicer than the premium and the pro. Okay. It just should be. Do you know on Jaws LE, they were going to do the illustrated Translight and not the iconic movie poster. Like that's like seriously stern. Like, come on, come on. These are like boneheaded things to even consider. So let me read some of your stuff here. We've got, it drives me nuts that the backbox does not have the red molding. You're right. I don't understand that. Like the T molding on the backbox, the curtains should match the drapes, right? It's like, just, you've got, and they've got the red, this is what makes no sense. They've got the red T molding on the premium game and has black armor. And then they've got the freaking black T molding on the ld that has the red armor and it just these boneheaded mistakes oh seth davis knows i i'll join the stern marketing department as a consultant i you know like i i just think they need someone like me over there i really do i really do you know i know it would be hard to sort of put canada into that mix but man they need someone like me I'm just saying I've been doing it for almost 30 years now, 25 plus years. I know what I'm talking about here. I have a good eye for creativity too. I'm creative. That's what I do in marketing. I'm a creative. Create stuff that people will get excited about. It's a fun job. Yeah, but common sense, let me tell you something, Anthony. Common sense is the hardest thing to have in all of business. All of business, right? Common sense. funny like in my company they used to give us like two summer days right two summer days right i'm like but there's three months of summer you know what i'm saying they would give like a day off per month you get one day off per month in the summer and you get two and i'm like but there's three months in summer so why would why wouldn't you give everybody three and once you start down a road of just kind of like a logical ways to process life and work it doesn't you know people just lose a little faith like you know it's like oh well i see i get it now i want to thank the 110 people for me did someone post a link to the trippy voting is everybody voting for canada I was disappointed that I'm not eligible for favorite pinball streamer. I think what's disappointing about that is I finished second in favorite pinball streamer of one year and third one year. So I don't understand how, how could I have finished second and third and streaming? And now I'm not eligible for streaming. I think that's a con con. I think that's a mistake again. Like what am I doing right now? I'm doing a stream about pinball, right? You've got people on there where the streams are not about gameplay. It's just like this. Like, Kerry does this. He doesn't do gameplay. Todd Tuckey does this, you know? So again, it's not a mistake. They obviously don't want Kaneda winning more than one award. I know, I know. Like, Ian said, you and Zach many are the only people complaining about the twippies makes me feel nostalgic no they didn't have Zach and they didn't have straight down the middle in like certain categories I agree with Zach I agree with Zach I mean it was just and I think Colin changed I think Colin and Zach spoke and they included it I want to win all the awards Colin not just two all the awards I should win best pinball designer. Where's best pinball fashion sense? How come that's not an award? Best use of, best pinball, you know, hedge multiball merchandise, right? Khaki shorts. khaki shorts, cargo shorts. Yeah, everybody vote. Everybody vote. Best pinball memes. Best pin in front of window. That's my favorite one. So gang, the overall sentiment around D&D and Evil Dead is this. I've said it on my show today that I think we got two of the best theme integrated games we've seen in a really long time. Unfortunately, they're based on themes that aren't really what people want. But the silver lining is the level of creativity going into both games has me really excited about what's down the road. I think both games, Evil Dead and D&D, they're going to be easy to get. They're going to be easy to get. doesn't mean they're not good, but they're targeting a much more niche fan base. Works a lot better for Spooky than it does for Stern. Spooky Pinball's model of one game, one art package, one topper, one this, one that. I know there's an alternative topper for more money, but everyone who buys an Evil Dead is going to have the same awesome looking game, and they only have to sell 888. Where it gets tricky for Stern, Stern can't really Carl Weathers a lukewarm response to a cornerstone very well. And we've seen that, right? I think people are forgetting, you gotta go back and understand what Stern's done, tried to do, and then we stopped them from doing more of it, was their strategy was gonna be, whenever we have a lukewarm title, let's just rerun a new le of a game people love and that's why we got more jurassic park le's more elvira and we and everybody's like no bro you got to stop that even the distro is told them to stop and and that's why they had to pull back and make godzilla 70th a premium and not in le it was supposed to be in le that was their strategy now what do they do right this is this i'm curious about this because i don't see d d like being enough to keep the stern machine going for the next game like the next four months until we get king kong i mean there's a cornerstone every four months like that's how it works like kong most likely will be out sometime in may now they may bring it out earlier to compete with Harry Potter, or they might let Potter have its moment. But do you really think that right now there is a demand for more of any Stern machines right now? Right. I feel like every game that you've ever wanted has been rerun 15,000 times. The only ones you want more of would be like a remastered kind of thing like a tron or a ghostbusters i just don't see dnd keeping that machine going for the next three four months i just don't see the orders coming in and then you know i don't think they can just run more godzillas or run more elviras or run more this or that i think they're gonna probably maybe do that ghostbusters between now and or tron right between now and kong i wouldn't be surprised if we see another remastered game to help keep the line going so we'll see we'll see because stern unlike jersey jack stern needs they like gang by the way can we just say for the record how much better dnd is than avatar like can we can we actually can we just state for the record how much better dnd is than avatar and mark seiden nicest guy he needs to step up they need to step up you know what i'm saying like jersey jack engineering step up now the the avatar has got no toys like zero toys in it zero interactive toys in it zero like I mean that like zero not not one not two zero interactive toys that interact with the ball I mean so I mean if I'm if I'm Brett and you know and I'm Leonard and I'm Jack Mark Mark needs to step up Mark needs to step up And if the rumor's true and Harry Potter's next and it's a wide body and we know Eric will throw everything in the kitchen sink into that game, it's going to be awesome to see what he does. Awesome. Okay, so we got a $2 plastic cube. Look, here's the thing. Here's the thing. Don't knock toys that interact with the ball. i i like the cube with the magnet and i the only thing i wish it did i wish it had more of like the disappearing magnet like in toad in right wouldn't that have been cool where if you don't hit it in time that you know the the magnet drops down and and steals the ball from you if you will because what happens now if you don't hit the ball in time does it drop i think it might drop down i'm not sure i i haven't i haven't played the game but gang like for people being like it's a magnet big whoop well that's better than no magnet okay i just want to remind you guys is a magnet a toy yeah a magnet is a toy that interacts with the ball i consider a magnet to be a toy you know i'm saying i just do i i you might not i do i consider a mag if i think a magnetized gameplay feature like magneto grabbing the ball and slinging that's to me that's a toy magneto's magna grab is a toy area of the game i think lure the rings is a toy um i've i love magnets i i re you know one of the things i always I wish was so much cooler was the Magna Sling on Ghostbusters, right? It's like I thought they were going to design it in a way where the ghosts could take over the machine and throw the ball back and forth to each other and freeze it. You know, kind of like the Dracula game where the ball moves across. It never really did anything cool with it like that. gang i i think avatar i think avatar is gonna a ce is gonna be worth i mean it is beautiful but it's it's just it's just a kind of boring game in my honest opinion i i think avatar is going to be worth the ce is going to be worth $8,000 by the end of this year. I mean that. I think you're going to have a $7,000 loss on the game. And look, the thing is, nobody's going to want the LE. Avatar LEs are going to be worth about six. They'll sink down to GNR level. I think they're going to sell more CEs than LEs. I don't know anyone who's bought an LE. I don't. Franchi, what's up, brother? You know, I just, again, I think Evil Dead and D&D, wow, way more in them than Avatar. Now, look, Avatar looks better than, like, the JJP platform. I think I want to articulate it like that. The JJP platform is still the nicest platform in all of pinball. Like their games just look better just from a pure physical material thing. Like it's just better looking than anything else, than anyone else's platform. I don't know why it's so hard for other companies to up the look of their platform. I don't know why. I don't know what the issue is there. like why is it it's just wood and lights and you know i i think some of it comes down to like the rad cows add a lot i think you know the the big screen obviously adds a lot right it's a very dynamic backbox they have and you know they look great they look great uh i also agree I agree. The flipper feel on Avatar does not feel as good as Elton John. And I'm not sure what the issue is. It just doesn't feel as good as Elton. I don't know what the issue is. I don't know. I'm not going to solve it here today. You know what I haven't seen? Because remember, gang, like Avatar LE is the same game as the CE. And the game's now been out. Are you ready for it? October, November, December, January. The game's been out for four months, and it pretty much launched code complete. In those four months, have you heard anybody who bought an avatar? Have you heard anybody say, OMG, this moment in the pin is magical? I haven't heard anybody even articulate a single, a single, I hope my computer doesn't restart in 15 minutes. We'll see. It might. I got this warning message. I haven't seen anyone articulate a single, like, thing or moment that they really gush about. and i think that's indicative of the kind of boring nature of the game it's just like yeah yeah mute eclipse um canada got the american pinball lap yeah like uh man um do we think we're getting cuphead let's go let's talk about some other stuff too do we think cuphead's ever coming out what do you guys think i don't know i don't know based on Ryan McQuaid's post, it just doesn't sound good. It doesn't sound like he's in a good place. It doesn't sound like he's about to launch a pinball machine. And I feel bad for the guy. I did see that post that American Pinball is now hiring line workers, right? That was a little strange to see. So I mean, clearly they're not done. so i don't know how these things add up and i don't know what the future holds but i know that the other companies that are firing off on all cylinders are just gonna leave them behind in the dust and and there's just no other way to look at it so avatar cannot be saved by code No, it's done. It's done. It's done. You know what I would love? If someone can make my dream come true, could Jersey Jack just stop being stupid and make Toy Story 1? Can they just make Andy's Room version of Toy Story? Can someone make that? If Andy's Room, if Toy Story 1 was made into a pinball machine, I would buy it right now. If it was just announced right now, I would put $15,000 down right now for a Toy Story 1 CE. The fact that we're never going to get the right Toy Story pinball machine is criminal. No, I don't want a Buzz Lightyear pin. No, it doesn't work like that. I want the story from Toy Story 1 recreated in pinball form. I don't want Buzz Lightyear. I don't want a generic story. I want Andy's room. Okay. What do you want? The Bo Peep? Anyway, I just, that's it. I want the iconic stuff. You don't want a derivative version of the iconic stuff. That's how you end up with Toy Story 4. It's not the iconic movie. Even the iconic characters are kind of buried in that movie because it's about Forky and Bonnie. It's not iconic. As I think about Harry Potter, I wonder how they're going to handle the source material. What do you guys think? Do you think they're going to make Harry Potter based on all eight movies? right aren't there eight movies or is it going to be based on the first few movies how do you think they're going to handle it also if you guys love the saturday morning spectacular and you're not a member of the canada club and you want to just send a donation see i need to get like super chats going so so people can donate here and be recognized here and i'm going to look into that, but I don't know why it won't let me do it yet. I'm going to figure this out. And, but if you want to send any donations, just letting you know, because people used to send stars, um, you can just send any donations to, to PayPal, Canadian pinball, as it sounds Canadian pinball at gmail.com on PayPal. And I would highly, you know, appreciate anything and all things as I spend 6,000 a month on daycare and spend so much free time doing this. But it is what it is. It is what it is. It is what it is. I always say, if I was talking about something with a broader audience, I'd be driving a Lamborghini, not a GR86. Anyway, let's talk about the rumor that the next title from Barrels of Fun is Dune. Now, I reached out to one of my contacts over there, and I got a little bit of like, oh, Dune. It was almost like I wish Dune would be a great property. I don't know. I don't know. I got a little non-answer answer. I don't want it to be Dune because I don't want it to be the new movies. And also, the original one is like so bad it's good kind of movie. Again, this is just me being personal. I just don't want a Dune pinball machine and I just wouldn't go there. I think you'd have better luck with space balls. You know what I'm saying? I just, I don't know. I just don't want a Dune pinball machine. I would rather have Superman 78. I would rather have original like a team or Wonder Woman. I just, I, again, I think Dune isn't something that we want. The majority of people want. I would much rather have Fifth Element, much rather have Matrix. It's Superman 76. I would just much rather have that stuff. And look, I get that some of you might love Dune. I just don't see it as a take my money now, especially the new one. not going to get the new one because no one's going to be able to afford zendaya and timothy chamale whatever shamalama ding dong like i you know what i'm saying like and i i don't know like the the dune tv show you know this is a good indication of it all the dune tv show on hbo is bombing like it's bombing like nobody's watching it it doesn't have that desire to go deeper into into the universe at all like i'm serious look at even squid game man like nobody squid game 2 it's been three years nobody cares the reviews are terrible nobody's watching it nobody's talking about it and you know just like that right you could argue squid game would be an amazing theme you know because it's so popular yeah our culture now is very fickle and and And that's why you kind of want to aim towards stuff that has a long-lasting cult following, like Big Trouble in Little China, like Akira, like Bloodsport, like Total Recall, like Predator, right? I mean, you can't tell me that Spooky Pinball would not sell more Bloodsport pins than Evil Dead. If you made Bloodsport, Bloodsport made more money at the movie theater than Evil Dead. More 40 to 60-year-old men are familiar with Bloodsport. It is still Von Damme's best movie ever, and it's just perfect for pinball. The whole theme of it is perfect for pinball. I'm telling you right now, Bloodsport sells out 888 units. you know? Well, the thing is this, Josh, is like Arnold movies are almost unattainable because of how expensive he is, but you could get the rights to Bloodsport and the clips and all. You could get, see, that's what I'm saying. They could get the rights. Avatar makes a lot more money than any of those themes. Yeah, but the thing is this, James, is Avatar doesn't have real fandom. James, you understand this point? Like, Avatar doesn't have a cult following. You're not watching Avatar a hundred times. I've seen Bloodsport a hundred times. I've seen Big Trouble in Little China a hundred times. I've seen Back to the Future a hundred times. Is anybody watching Avatar more than twice? You know, the first one I saw like four or five times in the theater because of how much of a spectacle the IMAX 3D was. We don't even talk about this, gang. How are you going to make an Avatar pinball machine? A movie that is famous for its 3D. The fact that Jersey Jack didn't have any 3D mode in Avatar pinball is quite possibly the greatest fail of theme integration of all time. Those movies are famous for being in 3D. Did anyone ever see Avatar in 2D in the theater? It's terrible in 2D. And the fact that Jaws has 3D modes and not even Avatar, just sad. And again, it makes me wonder what the heck is Jersey Jack thinking that this is good enough. No, it's not. It's not good enough. Greatest fail aside from French. You don't like my winter hat? It's nice and warm. My computer might restart in five minutes, people. if it does i'll sign back on how's that sound i got this countdown clock um so you know how's everybody anyone like can i ask you guys a question we've got um i think i can do a poll here let me see let me see here i think i can do a poll uh do do do do top chat let's see I thought I could throw up a poll. Let's see. Live chat. Time chat. Let's see. Hold on. I can do that. Okay, here we go. Start a poll. did you did you order a dnd okay let's start the poll i curious um what people say we have got look we got 130 people here which is not a bad amount of people and i curious what the poll results will be and let's keep it going for a little bit but i'd love for everyone just to vote and then i i i want to know kelly you order every le kelly i i'm not i'm not i i'm not making fun of you kelly i understand why you and neil mccray got one i get it don't understand why you didn't wait. You know, you know, Kelly, you know, this hobby well enough, Kelly. That's what I always, I get it. I get it. I get it. Kelly's just in on every new Ellie. Anybody be down for a Randy Macho Man Savage pin? No, that's too much macho. It's too much macho, Franchi. That's too much. I don't know. We have 87% of people are saying no right now 13 said yes all right so what's 13 13 of 130 is sold about 10 machines i like the spooky and barrels of fun give you oh yeah um All right, so most people have not ordered D&D. But that's not a terrible number. I mean, you know, you get to a few thousand audience and you've got almost every LE sold. And also, shame on most of you. Only 53 people voted out of 126. Like, come on, guys. Get with it. I mean, maybe some people are watching from their car. Who knows? 90% sold? What does that mean? That doesn't make any sense. 90% of what is sold? Joseph, that doesn't make any sense. 90% of D&D is not sold. You just can't make up numbers like that, Joseph, in Canada's house and get away with it. 90% of D&Ds have not sold. I'm 90% likely to buy it. Oh, you're 90% sold on getting it? Okay. All right, well, that's different. Well, I'm telling you, the 10% inside your head should tell you to wait and see and save thousands of dollars. I'm not saying don't buy it. Just don't buy it yet. gang listen to me if you don't buy it now you can still buy it and save three thousand dollars why wouldn't you do that like that's what i don't get you i want to play it now why the code's not going to be done for six months by the time the code is done you can then go buy the game for three thousand dollars less how many times we have to see stern games go that route and you can't wait six months and then by the time six months goes you've got king kong you've got harry potter you've got the next barrels of fun game you got spooky's evil dead shipping you've got alice's adventures in wonderland shipping like it's no brainer no brainer wait Also, the more we wait, gang, the more Stern's going to have to lower prices. You know, they know this is the only way forward. It doesn't work. This model just can't sustain it like this for much longer. You can feel it. You can feel they're sort of like, they're not used to this. coin taker is the best distro ever says ranchi you know my favorite distros and i get no kickbacks i get no anything i don't even like melissa half the time supposed to hold me a game my favorite distros you know who they are and it's just because i know them personally coin taker chris and melissa probably number one i've got most of my games from chris and melissa number two mike at automated mike's amazing nicest guy ever no games just gets a game for you no shenanigans love mike at automated he needs to update his website looks like it's from 1997 I don't even know, like he's still marketing like it's 1997, but the nicest guy ever. And then Joe Newhart at Pinball Star. Those are my go-tos. And then I try to order from each based on like what they are known for. So like Stern, obviously Mike and Cointaker are my two goes to. Joe doesn't sell Stern machines. Joe, obviously, I like to order my JJPs through him. And if it's a spooky title, I like to give him love on the companies he covers off on frequently. I don't even know if that was even a sentence I just said. Yeah. No, look, gang, and that's nothing against any other distributor. You know what I'm saying? I just don't buy from other distributors. nothing personal of course zach's got a huge customer base zach and greg at flipping out of course you know mad pinball's got his his his crew trent's got his audience jj's got his audience everyone's got their distro you know i don't i mean nitro's got his his audience i i don't tend to think you stay in the distro business very long if you're bad you know what i mean i i don't think you're around for a long time in the sales business if you're not likable if you don't deliver consistently and you don't help your customers have a good experience right i mean that is the job so it's weird like you know what i'm saying like someone giving love to their distro isn't throwing shade on other distros i just want to say that now that being said now that being said some of y'all content creators are just annoyingly like the way you promote your distro buddies is nauseating i'll give you an example like retro ralph right put up a video about dnd saying there's a hold my beer game and buy your game from from flipping out right and he is like he lists he lists Zach and Greg's email and the number like and I just wrote in the comments why are you giving both of their emails like it's not enough that just gives that you got it like why don't just give the entire cell phone number of everyone who works it's just like but it's also you're a content creator like what why are you like again again I I'm not sure what's happening now all right I'm not sure what's happening now but there was a time when content creators were getting kickbacks for referrals and that's why they were a hyping games and be so adamant on where to go buy it now look I don't care if people do referrals and help their friends promote their businesses all i ask if you're doing that is that you're transparent about that that you're getting money per referral let me tell you how much i've gotten from referring people to coin taker to joe to mike zero right i get zero kickbacks zero anything nobody sponsors anything i do they also give me zero off like you know you guys know that who's don's distro is it is it mad pinball you know that that guy's kicking don games for less than msrp right he's getting and that's and again and then once you go down that road where you're getting a discount and you're like not paying what everybody else is and then you're giving reviews and feedback on something you got at a discounted price it starts to like get a little bit into that gray area of how much should be transparent and how much is authentic and you know in the end And none of it matters. Nobody's making much money off of any of this. So just who cares, really? I mean, it's just something I do notice. I do notice. And then when people complain about $5 a month for the amount of content I'm throwing up there, it's like, Just know that when you donate $5 or more, you're donating to someone who is absolutely not in the back pocket of any distro, any company, any designer. I don't have any friends, but you guys. You guys are my only friends in pinball. I mean that. My friends in pinball are the customers. You know, it's like this weird thing of like a media outlet or a content creator would be on the side of the customer. And what's interesting is through all of my stride and takes on this hobby, I do have professional, respectful working relationships with George Gomez, Seth Davis, Jack Guarnieri, Ken Cromwell. like it's like you know brett abbott's like i i'm i'm not i i love to like this whole like oh you didn't get invited to stern like if i wanted to go see stern's dnd this week do you think i would fly to chicago and hang out with the b team or would i get on a first class plane ticket to las vegas and party with Seth George and the team in Vegas. Where do you think Canada would go next week? You think I'm going to go? Again, just take a guess. And anytime I want to go to Stern and see anything over there, who's picking me up in his Porsche, right? If you could have seen last time I was there, the other content creators were, you know, they were getting a tour. I was just getting a personal tour from George Gomez. Okay, just saying, just saying, just saying, just saying. I don't feel slighted at all. Franchi said, I think the biggest shill is Retro Ralph, blowing stern on every show with all his stern gear on, and I had to quit watching his podcast. Well, look, Franchi, I don't disagree, man. It's weird to me. It's weird to me. And look, it's the safe bet. All right. If you want to get an audience and you want to get views, then yeah, like go, go shill stern because they're the biggest, they have the largest audience. And look, to be honest, when you think about some of the content creation, some of these guys are just happy go lucky pinball fans who don't see anything wrong in anything happening in pinball. And that's fine. Right? It absolutely fine. Like there's a yin to the yang of everything in life. I actually think a lot of those guys are just, they, they like Ralph seems like a really good, nice guy, but yeah, it can be a little frustrating and infuriating when you don't really feel like you're, like you're ever going to get an honest opinion from somebody because they only want to say something nice about a company and its products. See, that's, see, that gets boring. I mean, in the end it does, it will ultimately get, but it's still better. I mean, it is still better to be the forever optimist, positive purveyor of pinball. It is still better to be that because that person will wake up every day and actually feel good about what they're doing. And you know, my, my way to measure whether or not you're enjoying your life is how many days do you wake up in a good mood? And I believe that those gentlemen are in a great mood when they put up their content glorifying everything Stern does. I think people who wake up negative about everything in pinball, who are angry about everything happening in pinball, who make content, and you know who they've, you've seen these guys in the past, like the Cornelius's of the world. Like they came in like hard, like hot and heavy negative. It's like, they're almost trying to tear down the hobby. Those guys flame out right away. They flame out right away. They don't last very long. Okay. They really don't last very long. All right. I want to read some of your comments. Kaneda softening it. Wait. Kaneda softening it. He's cringe. I don't get that sentence. Dune would be amazing. Ralph at least tells you what they are. They're the only ones who give them money. Who gives Ralph money? I don't know. I make a great mom most days. uh-oh i'm in a great mood most days says colin okay retro ralph may not have many hot takes but a rad dude and makes incredible videos uh yeah i mean look ah oh so retro so flipping out gives ralph money okay well that's look it makes sense it makes sense you know it's it's um but but but here's the thing here's the thing when it doesn't i don't you know what it doesn't even matter like it doesn't matter you know it doesn't matter uh in the end it's smart marketing by zach to do that i i mean that let me tell you something gang if someone wanted to pay me money pay me money to to give you guys a little bit of a better deal on a game to send them leads right let's let's do a little glen gary glen ross if someone wanted to pay me money not to shill the game but just say hey if you buy from coin taker you know you can knock another hundred off if you use the, you know, tell him Canada sent you and coin taker wants to give me, you know, 50 bucks per lead. I would absolutely do that. I see nothing wrong with that. As long as it doesn't interfere with my integrity on the reviews of the game, I will not change my opinions on that. Now, here's the problem, right? You can see already the problem in all of that is if you know you're going to get money for every game sold, it absolutely will destroy the integrity of your opinions about the game because you're 100% going to say nothing but good things about the game because you have money at stake. You know what I'm saying? So I think that's the issue is it will inherently make you sell out and it will inherently just not work out. And that is why there's separation of church and state between the journalism department and the editorial and the advertising departments of like any content, any content. So that's that. Kaneda, I'll give you $50 if you can go a week without saying, I mean it when I say it. Look, I mean it when I say it, Christopher Franchi. I will take you up on that. When are we starting that? All right. And I mean it when I say it. I'm going to take that challenge. Kaneda, isn't D&D a little nicer than you expected? Yeah, it is. Absolutely. I don't think anybody expected Stern to actually put a real mechanism in a game. did anyone actually expect stern to put a real mechanism in a game for once like they did it like that mech that dragon looks like it came from the mid 90s from bally williams finally finally we know you can do it stern you just did it and now it makes that rubber ducker rubber ducky shark in jaws look so silly and ridiculous like honestly bruce should have this treatment. So yeah, the game exceeded my expectations, but I still won't buy it because I don't like Dungeons and Dragons. It's that simple. It's really easy, real easy. It looks like it came from Jurassic Park. I don't care. I'm sure they took the Jurassic Park and made it better. That's called common sense innovation. Improving upon something you've already put R&D into, Josh, is not a negative. You know what I'm saying? You make this great Jurassic Park mechanism. They make it even better. It's not a negative. All right. You know what's a negative? The lower playfields in Avatar. The mechanisms in John Wick. You know what's a negative? Right? Having no toys and mechs in games and then charging people $10,000 to $15,000. dollars that's a negative have you tried dungeons and dragons what have you no nobody has there's only a dragon and a cube the artwork makes it look like there is a lot more going on branchy branchy branchy branchy branchy branchy branchy the um there's more than that going on in the game franchi there's more than that going on don't don't don't don't you talk about art work saying it makes it look like there's a lot more going on than there really is because that's been stern's model for a long time it's been pinball's model for the longest time franchi there's a there's a dragon there's targets there's there's like a you know a the dungeon entrance that pops up there's a magnetic cube there's a ramp that lifts up there's three flippers there's there's a shield that pops up in between the flippers i haven't even talked about that that's my favorite part of the game is the shield that pops up from underneath because i suck at pinball that's like you know it's like adding two inches to your ding dong i love that i love that thing that's gonna make a lot of fun for a lot of people happen okay look there's a lot going on in the game there's a lot like we don't we don't i i i think i i i'm giving high praise to evil dead and to dnd franchi this'll this and i mean it when i say it franchi evil dead looks way better than dnd though like way way better way better i i i mean i put up the post history on facebook for 10 grand evil dead makes that 13 000 dnd look like like a seven thousand dollar like die like looks it makes the dnd le looks like a pro you take away the the the art you know the laser etched armor is it even laser etched isn't everything just laser etched these days like you can't even get a chicken mcnugget without it being laser etched um i i just think it doesn't look good it just doesn't look good you know when i look at evil dead i don't even like evil dead but i love the way the game looks i don't like dnd and i don't like the way the game looks so score one in the win column for spooky here all right look look look look look look look everybody have you voted canada yet in the twippies and then seen the and then voted 18 000 times for best location best location down the the block and best location if I turn left best location if I turn right best location two towns over best location next state best location in Florida best location if I'm on a Antonio Cruz ship why did they think that anybody I'll tell you why they did this because the committee is made up of location dudes like dudes you rule number one of marketing get yourself out of it do what the target audience will find enjoyable the moment you hit that page in the twippies it is like the wind is taken out of the sails vote voting should be fun you should make it as fun as possible I don even want to send that to people because Because then I have explain to them you don have to fill out everything You don have to fill out all the forms You can just skip pages two through seven You don have to do you don have to just think about it through the lens of everybody who votes, the actual experience of voting should be memorable, not laborious. It was easier for me to vote for the president of the United States than it was for me to get through the trippy voting. Okay. Not good. Not good. Okay. So Jamie and Colin, you guys know this. And I know they're like, oh, Canada's making fun of us again. Like I get, this is what's going on in the committee's head right now. Like Aaron, like all of them over there are making fun of all of them. I mean, they're like, oh man, you know like canada's the one who hypes the twippies the most and he's like he's not wrong but like you know he's encouraged every he's encouraging everybody to like vote but he's also making fun of us at the same time you know he's like and he hasn't even started making fun of the fact that to go to the twippies have you seen this part to go to the twippies 40 people only 40. they want you to pay $80 to get in $80 to get into the twippies. Okay. Let me just hard stop. No, I'm not paying that. I'm not paying $80 to get in anywhere, anywhere. Hey, you just, what? $80 to get into the, is that, is that, was that like, again, the committee, real smart guys over there. Oh wait, the only, well, we only have, I can see, I can see their like mentality. Well, we only have 40, room for 40. So the only way to like limit the demand, because everyone's going to want to go. Nope. Newsflash. Nope. People go to TPF because it's an entire show and they go to TPF because they're going to meet all the companies, the manufacturers, the designers. everyone's there that's why an award show there works oh but we only got 40 seats in Houston not associated with anything else no one's gonna be here other than us $80 yeah yeah yeah guys great great yeah yeah good good good how many tickets have you sold four or five like I email me at Canadian pinball at at gmail.com. This is it. This is the problem. I'm like, oh man, he's making fun of us again. He's like destroying the integrity of the show. And he's also going to win. And now he's putting us in his predicament where like it sucks. He's always got to do this. He's always got to make it about him. He's always got to make fun of it. But then if he loses, everyone's going to challenge the integrity of the voting because he's won it six years in a row. And the only year he lost is when we made him ineligible and his content has gotten better it's scary how good canada's pinball content has become and he like he's the he's the best streamer on saturday mornings might as well have a category for that best saturday morning streamers better than like hey best location and uh you know four blocks over four blocks over who's got the best location oh you guys are funny tell me again how much you spent at tiffany's uh more than more than you got if you gotta ask brian more than you've got uh what is this okay i want to read some of your comments because when i'm going like that i can't read i gotta stay inside the the ludicrous mind inside my head just make it five years ago uh the airfare is too much wow 80 80 80 hey man no colin like we're all having fun man we're all having fun like i i look in the in the end in the end in the end the twippies is a is is an award show that's going to be enjoyed over the internet and that's it i'm looking for of course i'm going to tune in of course i'm going to watch of course i want you guys to vote but it's going to be a show meant for an internet audience right being there is not important you know what i'm saying because like it was different at tpf when you had like 400 people in a room and all the personalities in the room all the manufacturers in the room that's different vibes this show if i'm these guys go watch greg and zach's internet version of the twippies they did it best so if if they're gonna aim to make the show enjoyable just make it enjoyable for an audience that's watching over the internet. That's all you need to do. And your reactions and your commentary and your personalities are what, are what is, is what is, is what, well, I can't even talk right now. That's how smart I am. I'm just, I'm going in mental loops. Your personalities are what will make this show entertaining. But trust me when I say this, none of your personalities will ever make eight categories of location winners exciting. So what you should do and what they're probably going to do, much like the Academy Awards, just announce those things first like best short foreign film like just have a running scroll of who won those twippies don't make us sit through an announcement of each one all right because if you do you're gonna lose everybody all right what i'm reading these audiences here and saying just a lot easier if you put kane on the committees for things Complain all you want, but Chris, you're gonna sipping some fancy ass drink watching the Twippies. Of course I'm gonna be watching the Twippies. All right, what else? I'd rather talk pinball than awards, really. Joseph, have we not talked enough pinball, Joseph? Joseph, you know, Joseph, I want you. I want, what do you want to talk about, Joseph? All right, guys, sorry. Sorry I've been boring you with the award stuff Joseph wants to talk pinball what what a novel idea okay Joseph what do you want to talk about what do you you got the stage brother what do you want to talk about what do you want to talk about what haven't we talked about for the last hour and 15 minutes and pinball what did what did we miss Joseph and lighted me enlightened me brother what do you want to talk about nothing what do you want to talk about what you want to talk about now nobody wants to pay for their Pulp Fiction let's talk about that how the topper looks like crap and now nobody wants the game all right Blues Brothers I'm not talking about Blues Brothers I'm not talking about Blues Brothers Joseph take a hit at his brother what do you want to talk about where's the where's the camera what do you want to talk about what do you want to talk about he didn't be let's see did he did he did he chime back in with the topic where is he where is he okay okay the new Dean degenerates new game every week any thoughts on that all right well fine he actually came back with it with a good subject every Sunday it's like it's like Canada rejuvenates every Saturday you don't figure out what he's gonna say like I I think I think it's neat I don't know if it's gonna be enjoyable until we experience it most of us will never experience it because we won't own dnd i i think there's like um i i think people are confusing though it's just gonna randomize like how the game happens and they're just gonna have you know again like if they have like 30 different modes in the game and those modes happen when you go through the dungeon and go down different pathways they're just gonna randomize what you know what what what you experience if you go straight on week one might be different than week two and they're just gonna randomize that it's fine i think it's i think it's a neat concept i think it makes the game connect to dnd in a cool way but what is not gonna happen guys is you're not getting like an all new game every sunday they're not gonna keep coding all these new things every week from now until eternity you're just gonna get random you know it's gonna be random so i think it's again think it's cool but i don't think you know until we see what it's like in practice we'll see um all right so like yeah it's not dwight uploading new adventures every week like that's not happening all right so i will randomize the three shots well you know something that like i i wish I kind of feel like they missed an opportunity a little bit. It's kind of like Venom. Depending on what Venom you are, the play field changes. And I think some of that's here. But I do think, depending on what character you select, the ability to really alter the play field experience or the shots even would have been unique and interesting. But, you know, I don't know. I don't know. All I know is this. This game is a really, really good theme-integrated effort from Stern Pinball. Based on a theme that, you know, obviously is not the most popular with all of us, but still, good job. Good job. I'm glad there's no lower play field in this game. Lower playfields suck. Like, let's be honest. Lower playfields suck. and you know like the evil dead one is a is all is as much as i want in a lower playfield experience it's just you know i'm saying like it's just the right amount but but like like the lower playfield in elvira like not elvira monsters i you know the it just the i i don't know like the when you when you start flipping around and the ball is not the same weight and it doesn't have the same kinetic feel yeah look I guess obviously the Lebowski's awesome lower play field but that was 12 years ago that that is the exception the majority of them are not great that you know I think they they look cooler than they are and the fact that they put two in an avatar is funny to me my computer didn't turn off I've got a few more minutes what else what else you guys want to talk about Did anyone donate any money to Canada's PayPal while we've been here? I can give you a shout out. Let me check. Let me check right now. Normally, Kelly, Daniel, I'm saving you money. See, some of my like stars guys, they would be all in on giving stars. I don't know. You guys, okay. You guys like it here. Like, okay. Let me ask right now. I'm going to do a poll. and do do do it's way easier to read the chat than it is on Facebook for me I got it I got to be honest okay do you like SMS here versus Facebook let's start the poor. Now's your chance to vote, all you Facebook fans. Oh, man. I always like talking a little bit about life at the end of these shows. I know, I know, Joseph, you want to talk pinball. I know, Pete Rosen, I miss your stars, brother. Pete, did you give the PayPal? pal. Pete used to get 5,000 stars in an episode. Literally, the amount of Pete Rosen money I'm losing by keeping it here is criminal. Pete's on the lifetime, like in the top three greatest Canada supporters of all time. Let's see. Opening up the Patreon. We got a new member. RJ joined yesterday. uh no paypal nobody loves me nobody loves me uh let's see no of course yeah no is a vote for facebook do you like it here versus facebook So yes means I like it here, and no would mean I liked Facebook better. It's real simple, guys. Real simple. Don't make me – I'm starting to question the intelligence of my audience here. Yeah, gang. I mean, look. I'm about to go back to work next week, and I just want to say that I want to thank each and every one of you for hanging out and being a part of this community. I'm going to talk a little bit from the heart right now. And I know for those of you who don't want a softer side of Canada, it's a good time to leave. The thing that always I think about as a new parent and as watching kids grow up and in my job, I absorb a lot of information about people and culture and society and how new generations are vibing and how they're feeling and how they are mentally and how they are socially and the behaviors that are changing. I really mean it when I say it. I think all of us, for the most part, are very lucky. We grew up before the internet. I don't think we'll ever really fully understand what a blessing it was to grow up before the internet when we had to go out for entertainment where we waited for things that excited us. And in the time between waiting for things, we used our imagination. And I've been thinking a lot about this hobby and why I love it so much and what it really means to me and the reason why it's so special is I think this hobby, unlike everything else I see in the world and all the other categories and brands and things that are trying to reach us as grown adults. This hobby reminds me of that time when I was young and I was innocent and I loved waiting to see what the next arcade machine was going to be, what the next games from Nintendo were going to be, what the next iteration of a video game console would be, when you went from 8-bit to 16-bit. And you dreamed, and you imagined, and you dreamt about it. You thought about it a lot. And then you had the moment where it was revealed to you, and you had such elation and feelings about it. And what I love about pinball, it's still that. like i don't know what harry potter is going to look like but i know it's coming i don't know what king kong is going to be but i know it's going to be special because of who's making it and and then in the time between these new games we dream we imagine now the internet has allowed us to connect and share our enthusiasm but i do mean this when i say it like it's still an analog game that you got to stand in front of and you can't enjoy pinball while you're on your phone i mean how many of you when you try to watch a movie now at home a tv show with your partner or your friends or and then all of a sudden you see it 20 minutes in like someone's got their phone open and and again it takes you out of that moment you're sort of you've lost focus and you know now your dual screening. Heck, some people triple screen, phone, laptop, and content going. And in the end, I wholeheartedly believe this. The number one thing that is crippling the world and Gen Z and kids, and my kids will have to suffer through this, and we all suffer through this, the number one pandemic of the world, and it's what leads to all of the issues of the world, is loneliness, right? Lonely people, people that feel isolated and without love and without family and without friends, they're dying, right? And so what I love about this hobby, and I mean this when I say this, I'm not being insincere. I'm not just hamming this up. I don't ever feel lonely every day because of my connection to all of you and the community and at any hour I can wake up three in the morning, one in the morning, two in the afternoon. And the Canada Patreon chat is one of the most enjoyable. I mean, see how enjoyable this chat is. That's what it's like. It's a 24-7 scrolling community of people that are just connected over a shared passion for pinball. And you're never alone. You know, you're never alone. If I put into my company chat a phrase at one in the morning, hey guys, no one responds for seven hours, eight hours. And I do love that all of us from all different walks of life and backgrounds and personalities can kind of unite over this thing. It's a beautiful thing. It's a beautiful thing. And I hope it brings you guys joy every week. And I hope the content that I create brings you a sense of connection. And I really do appreciate each and every one of you. And it means more than the money. You know that. But it is nice. It is nice that all the hard work I've put into making this content has had a little bit, a little bit of some monetary reward. And I think everyone should be rewarded for what they create, and especially if they put a lot of hard work into it. So that's me saying, gang, it's saturday we do this every saturday morning weekends are a special time if you're a young parent like me i'm not young but i mean my kids are young yeah yeah yeah you know how long the weekends are uh this these are the tough they're so cute but they're they're a lot of work um honestly with patreon's chat was better um joseph look here's the deal here's the deal i'm not going to keep making thread upon thread. I'm not doing discord. The Patreon chat, I'll tell you this. It's amazing when you approach it the right way. If you want it to be something else, it's not going to be that, but just enjoy it for what it is. It's a royal rumble of conversation and I love it. And look, when you jump in, know this, you didn't miss much. just jump in with a move like just think about like a wrestling royal rumble coming off the top rope with what you want to talk about and and we're and we'll steer in that direction if you go into the patreon chat and try to scroll back to the last thing you posted and then read everything after that yeah you're not going to enjoy it okay it's it's just not the way to do all right I mean it like just use it think about it like a Royal Rumble and you'll have a lot of fun with it um everybody look be good and I love you guys I mean that not as much as I love my wife and my kids but you know it's a different kind of love and and I do love this hobby and we're gonna um we're gonna have some a lot coming in pinball people it's just starting the year is just starting this is just the beginning man it's gonna get real good i i'm looking forward to it and i think this game and evil dead i think the year is off to a good start the bar is really high you know because like you know the big themes now they have to they have to elevate over that bar right you know you can't have evil dead and d d putting more into the game than harry potter and kong right and who knows what else goonies like it's coming it's all coming all right everybody so drink some sake tonight and um join canada's pinball podcast if you're not a member and go vote in the twippies i know i've been making fun of them a lot but it's they're an easy target they did it to themselves i tried to help them i tried they still did it to themselves um colin just literally you don't even need a committee just canada what would you do i would I would do this, boom. And it would be the right thing to do. I don't, I'm a committee of one at work. I don't need committee. I hate it when committees have to vote on creative ideas. I don't think committees work. I've never ever, I think teams work, but committees never work, all right? All right, everybody, be good. Peace out, later.

high · Kaneda: 'I don't want it to be the new movies... I just don't want a Dune pinball machine... I think you'd have better luck with Spaceman... I would much rather have Fifth Element, much rather have Matrix. It's Superman '78'

market_signal: LE premium compression making three-tier model economically irrational; customers better served buying Premium and customizing for $3,000+ savings

high · Kaneda: 'if you powder coats a premium's armor and saves themselves... you're saving yourself more than $3,000... you're going to be able to put in inner art blades and get a topper... for much cheaper than a Stern LE'

product_strategy: JJP platform aesthetically superior to competitors despite Avatar's boring gameplay; Avatar flipper feel noted as worse than Elton John

business_signal: Stern appears to be constraining LE appeal deliberately to sell more Premiums, contrary to historical LE-centered marketing strategy

medium · Kaneda: 'it almost feels like annoying why they're doing this is they're like well, we need to sell more premiums and pros, so let's not put the best on the LE... The LE should be the game everyone fawns over'
