Hello my pinball people! Today's episode is brought to you by our friends over at Pinstadium Lights. Pinstadiums are the fastest, most dramatic way to take an older game and revitalize it using today's technology. With the ultra-cool function of using an app, you can control LED strips and flashers to illuminate the playfield GI and add some pretty fun lighting effects as well. It is about time you saw all that artwork that is on your playfield and to brighten up that at Dark Center. You know what I'm talking about. Let's be honest. We're all kind of sitting here on our butts during this lockdown. What better way to try out some PinStadium Lights? Drew and I have put them on our Black Rose, Monster Bash, Whitewater, Last Action Hero, Metallica, Hobbit, Alice Cooper. We have plans on putting them on Laser War and Firepower. Why? Because they work, people, and they make all that artwork just pop. They even have a special UV kit for Stranger Things that reveals more UV artwork than even the Stern kit. The old manufacturers. We love this company, and since the trade shows are all canceled, let's support some smaller companies like Pinstadium. Check out all they have to offer over at pinstadium.com. Type in poor man at checkout and get an additional 10% off. That's right. Shipping's on us. Shipping's on the poor men. So, guys, take a look. hope you guys enjoy it and uh today's show is our 50th show which is pretty freaking cool hope you enjoy it um poor drew and i are still kind of separated our wives have put the kibosh on us meeting drinking making out hugging you know typical ian and drew shit so um drew had to join me from skype and it's it's not bad guys it's not bad so without further ado on with the show. Shit. you gave us an extra spot there whatever anyway it's Ian and Drew everybody how you doing out there Drew is not here in person and I'm sad Drew we're skyping this is the first time in poor man's pinball history that Drew and Ian are not recording together but it is also the first time we always make this joke but this time it's real I am not wearing any pants i am i am at home in my office no pants drinking having a great time there you go how you doing today buddy i'm uh i'm good i'm good i'm missing your face that's for sure yeah i i am missing you but everyone knows why we're doing this there isn't any other reason than the 500 pound elephant in the room you know this coronavirus we just want to be safe we want to keep our families healthy and we're going to stay away for a while. But since this audio actually sounds pretty good, we might be doing this actually a little more often, potentially, right? Who knows? We'll see. Because it's a little easier to do this because I don't got to pack up and drive over there. Pack up? Cool. Listen to you, pack up. You hop in an Uber, you get over here, you get hammered, and then you Uber back home. Pack up. You listen to this shit, guys? acting like i do a lot more for this show than i actually do fills up his briefcase and he's off to work honey kiss the dogs good night and we're uh we're podcasting he has so much to show it's so good to be back buddy it is good to be back hey man how about uh pete and martin last episode huh what do you think oh my god i i'm not just saying this because they're our tribe members those guys did so good seriously like anyone if you guys haven't listened to episode 49 and a hat what do we call it 49b yeah 49b i think 49b it it i'm not kidding it's it's one of our top 10 episodes and we have a lot of episodes now so we can say that and it means something yes yes it's easily top 50 definitely top 50 hey that's that's a drew joke yeah sorry sorry man uh no they did great uh martin pete uh you guys are welcome back anytime we will definitely be having you guys on again we got a lot of good responses from it as well so yeah i think i'm i'm already like thinking to myself like you know what they could do they could do their own podcast throw it on our stuff and it could be called tribe talk you know sure sure no we're and we've been talking about stuff like that and i think uh tribe you know everyone wants more content from us believe it or not, except for our wives. Funny how that works. Yeah, funny how that works. But this is a way we can give it to you guys without having to podcast more, so I think it's awesome. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, thanks again, guys. Yeah, I don't know any other podcasts out there that listeners, like, freaking jump to the banner and jump to the call and do a podcast for you without being asked or begged or pleaded, you know. So I was very, very touched, very humbling. Thought it was really cool. yeah no they they really did a bang out job and and they both do other podcasts so if you guys look them up on facebook they'll they have other stuff out there and they're they're really good at what they do so i'm gonna try to get involved with pete's podcast bad beer and oh yeah what was it bad beer bad movies good beer good beer bad movies bad movies good beer yes yes i don't know why you'd want to drink bad beer is there bad beer there's a couple we we've all done it speaking and drinking. Drew, what you drinking? You know what I'm having today? And I've been kind of on this kick for a while. It's called Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey. Oh, interesting. And my brother turned me on to it around Christmas time. And it's like, I don't know, it's like 25 bucks a bottle. And the company's called Screwball. It's spelled just like that, Screwball. And they were one of the first. It's Peanut Butter Whiskey. And god damn it, this stuff tastes like peanut butter. and do you drink it straight oh yeah yeah a little just just put it on the rocks and uh you will not be disappointed i am not kidding just give it a shot nice even if you're not i guess i guess you have to like peanut butter to like this because it's kind of an overwhelming taste but it is really freaking delicious very cool man very cool um you know i panic bought the other weeks so when i went to the grocery store i wasn't panicked at the time but when i walked into my grocery store my local grocery store here it uh it was empty there was there was hardly anything on the shelves and then i started to panic and i started to buy all sorts of stupid shit random shit and i ended up buying like way too many cans of refried beans and i bought like three bottles of jack daniel's honey um so i i'm stocked up on refried beans and jack daniel's honey so tonight don't mix those two together tonight is jack daniel's honey night so it's all good man that's awesome that's a good choice yep yep i am uh i'm feeling pretty good feeling warm feeling warm it's nice to get back on the mic man martin was right i was itching i was itching to I get to shooting the shit with you, man. How long has it been? It's been three weeks? A week and a half. It feels like three weeks. See, I'm missing you already, buddy. My wife just yelled from the background, it's been two. Not even. Yeah, a week and a half. My wife always corrects me. She's awesome. yeah anyway let's not let's not harp and and get all sad with the the the rona as they call it in the meme world the rona no i'm not gonna go into that canada did that enough for us i hate to say it he was right and it was a really good episode but uh yeah we're not going down that route we're gonna have some fun today fuck no fuck no it's our 50th baby five zero so you know what Why don't we just do this right away? Let's get it out of the gate. A lot of you sent us awesome audio clips. Thank you for that, by the way. Everybody. Yep, yep, everybody. So what we'll do is we will play them in succession. Let's just do that, right? Yeah, just roll through them. And we got a couple of real special ones from none other than Christopher Franchi himself. Nice. Mike, dammit, I'm thirsty Williams. Yes, Ryan Kuyper. Ryan Kuyper sent us a nice one. Ian Hauerwer. Can I just say this about Ian? Ian? Ian. Yeah. I love you, Ian. Your voice does not sound anything like I thought it was going to. I don't know if that's good or bad. It's just an observation, I guess. I've watched his stream, so I knew what his voice was. Yeah. I expected him to sound like Orby. I thought all Canadians sounded the same, but I guess they don't. So, my bad. Oot. Out. Oot. Oot. I don't know what I'm doing there alright so without further ado let's play the audio clips they're very sweet very touching I always wanted to say this roll em hey this is Ian Harrower tribe member number 4 I just wanted to say congratulations Drew and Ian for making it to 50 episodes I really didn't think you'd make it past 20 tribe member number 1 Ryan Kuiper here wanting to tell Drew and Ian, congratulations on hitting episode 5-0. Cheers. couple of dudes, there's a place where everyone knows my name. And having a man crush on me is just a bonus. Anyway, happy 50th episode, guys. Here's to many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many more. And we're back. Kids, ladies and gentlemen, how did you like that? Martin, listener number 15 also had his clip in there too i forgot we didn't mention him but yeah we had martin's kind of really part of the family now well yeah it's like he's just one of us it's like you tell your buddies yeah yeah so and so wish me a happy birthday oh also my mom you know yeah yeah i assume your mother wished you a happy birthday that's kind of how i feel about uh our guy there martin number 15 can we talk about martin's new game martin got a game oh i am i'm a little jealous because when this game first came out, it was one of those, like, eh, games, but now it's a cool game. Go ahead. Yeah, so last week's episode, 49B, he talked a little bit about, well, him and Pete both talked about their love for Elvira and how they liked it a lot, and then he also talked about how his wife really, really likes the Beatles, which, one of my favorite games, guaranteed, always a good time to play Beatles. plus you get that beautiful franchise art i mean it's a stunning it's a piece of art really the beatles game plus it's fun and it shoots like a dream so george gomez the tweaks that they that he did and his team did phenomenal it's probably my favorite stern yeah one of my favorite stern games of all time easily those loops are awesome so it's a great game so we find out uh i don't a couple days ago that martin traded in his uh austin powers yeah baby yeah baby did i do that right yeah with uh beatles for a beatles gold i'm assuming there's some cash there as well but yeah he's got some cash but yeah that's awesome beatles gold man how cool and he was just talking about how he didn't have like any great you know like really expensive games and he had his doctor dude which he loves which is fine and then he goes he loves his woe nelly oh yeah that's right he does have so you know what's funny that lineup is hilarious now that i think about he's got the woe nelly he's got the doctor dude and then he's got the beatles that is such a hodgepodge of crazy 90s goodness sexist stuff and the beatles yeah yes exactly so hey good job on you brother that's Awesome. I'm glad you guys got the beautiful, beautiful Beatles. Yeah, what a great pickup. Way to go, Martin. Good job. Do we want to go into Twippies or do you want to go into Pinball News? What do you think, Drew? Let's go Twippies. Twippies. Let's go Twippies. Everyone that was messaging us said we want to hear all of your kind of recap of the Twippies. Our recap. Here it is. It's going to be the same as everyone else's, but here it is. true enough true enough i would say um overall let's just go overall impressions and what did you think uh how carrie hardy did and uh emoto arcade did uh emoto harney uh carrie hardy hats off to you guys you guys did spectacular i think you know given the circumstances and everything that went down um can i just say their their video editing skills i think was mostly emoto which he's awesome at that it was it was really good so well well done professionally done it looked like a professional uh show i liked it yeah dude i uh i really really really liked it um i you know for a second there i thought they were in the same room together and i think that is part of emoto's magic because yes i thought people were like not 100 sold on the chemistry well what they did extremely hard to pull off when you're not in the same room like even like interviews and you know things that drew and i do even this episode it's hard to do something remotely you know it's a lot easier to do an interview when you're right there with that person because usually with this kind of stuff you always end up talking over each other because that just how Skype and all that stuff works sometimes But the way they did it I mean it flowed It flowed really well. They did a great job editing it up. No, those two are great for pinball and, yeah, great job. And, yeah, the show itself was awesome. My favorite part is when she had the pin shades on and then she went to put them away and she put them away in Carrie Hardy's chest. Did you see that? No, I didn't catch that. It cracked me up. I was about four rums in, but, yeah, that was the funniest thing I thought I ever saw. I don't even think she did that on purpose or not, but I don't know. But, you know, the good thing that came out of it, though, the whole thing was Emoto is now my friend on Facebook. So I feel like I've arrived, you know, pinball-wise. You're getting there. I get more friend requests than you because, you know, I'm awesome. You're the lovable one? Is that what you're saying? maybe i don't think that's true man i don't think that's true i think uh i think people are requesting me a lot more we don't need to do a team zach team greg thing here no we all know you love ian yeah we we know it's team drew it's fine what a prick anyway we're trying to talk about a moto and carrie here but anyway they did a great job um so the awards themselves um a few upsets wouldn't you say uh i'm you know i'm looking right now just kind of looking back at the list here and uh best music and sound effects black knight sword of rage you know it's totally true black knight kind of uh took away a few awards which was awesome yeah that's good for them but it that's that that award is well deserved it's a oh absolutely they have a fantastic sound package on that game and sure i don't know why it slipped my mind when we were doing our our award what am i trying to think of come on drew help me out what was the um oh when we were predicting predictions thank you prediction award our prediction show i should say there we go good lord prediction award you get a prediction award for predicting uh so very much not like our predictions yeah the black knight uh pulled off uh pretty good upset i thought they did so they got that one they got um best topper which they should which they should i absolutely that was my prediction that the one they didn't get was um just double checking to make sure they uh best animations and display that's who i voted for they got third place in that okay so so jurassic park and wonka won that one uh wonka actually had best animations and display what do you think about that i agree okay no it was good it's it's a good package i mean the whole package the whole animation on the jersey jack side of things like i i think they're gonna have that locked up almost every year unless stern really pulls out the stops you know well stern's jurassic park did really well in that category i understand that but they're gonna have to get to be they're gonna have to be better yeah that was a tight one though that was a real tight one that's for sure that was uh less than what i'm looking at 0.3 percent man my octoberfest took a beating oh it's a beating how thank god for cosmic carnival otherwise it wouldn't have been so pretty but yeah they did not do well they did they did worse than we did but i'm pumped oh yeah i i feel i feel for him because i didn't think octoberfest was that bad of a game i really like it so well that's the thing but you know once again popularity contest that was what i was about to say i mean you know cosmic carnival aside because that one you know that theme does fall flat for a lot of people but you know oktoberfest is just one of those games i mean no nobody's been in front of it nobody's played it you know um it's uh it's it's a tough go when you when you can't get it in front of people so that's just the way it is i mean it's at all the shows they try very hard to get in front of people but if you're not going to the shows you're right you're not seeing it on location yeah yeah if you if you didn't didn't go to a pinball show in 2019 what are the chances you saw an oktoberfest you know we had we had one locally here for like uh you know what was it like two months maybe yeah at one place so yeah you know that's just that's Just the way the cookie crumbles, as they say. That's it. So what other categories were there, Drew? Oh, there was this good one. It was called Best Pinball Podcast. How did we do? We didn't do too well. We beat Franchise, I think. He was like one episode in, too. Yeah. So Franchise had one episode done with his super awesome pinball podcast, and we beat him out by 1%. Yeah. So suck on that, Franchi. That's all I got to say. Oh, Jesus. That's whatever. You know what, though? It's okay because, you know, there's a lot of pinball podcasts that didn't even get on the drop-down list. So I was happy. I wasn't upset or sad or anything. I was like, you know what? That's not bad considering a year ago this time we were probably on episode one and nobody knew us. You know what I'm finding funny right now? I'm on the ThisWeekInPinball.com website, and they have all the percentages of all the categories except favorite pinball podcast. Yeah, there's a few of those. Yeah. You got rid of the percentages on some of them. Yeah, they had them on Pinside. I don't know why they don't have them on Twip here. But anyway, we were at about like 3.5%. I think, again, they're trying to – I think what they're trying to do is not discourage people from quitting the game. But you know what, man? Hey, Jeff, guess what? I can't quit. Can't stop. Yeah. I'm too hot right now. Discourage us? We got 3%. We're just shooting for six next year. Top ten, baby. That's just motivation and fuel. You know it. So our buddy, our good friend Chris Clouris, socks and all. uh won the best podcast go figure do you know what he wins he wins best uh facebook live video after the twiffies sorry chris hey chris i do have a copy of that by the way i'm gonna use that as blackmail later oh man no i mean with all kidding aside i mean i listen to canada's podcast I've been listening to it for two years now Yeah, I mean, we're one of the many thousand that do And he's got a built up army If we were all starting at the same time I don't know if it would be as fair, Chris Pretty sure we'd be kicking your ass right now But he's got like a four year head start on us It's okay though, we love you But to be fair now, Chris and I can go head to head For the 2020, well, the 2020 awards It'll be the most drunk pinball moment of all time and him and I will go neck and neck. No, I think he got him, buddy. I don't think his story has ended with his dick in his hand. That's true. When the story ends, dick in your hand, you usually tend to win that contest. I think he's trying to encroach on our drunkenness. You can't do that, buddy. We cornered that market. Too good, too good. What else stood out to you in this Twippies? I thought all the presenters did a really good job. I kind of like that. I'm sorry. I kind of like the online award show because it floats so fast. You got to see all these different presenters in their home environment, which I thought was really cool. It was a nice touch. And I don't know. I just really dug it. I like the speed of it, too. And I think next year they're going to go right back to the live show. I just know they are. you know i just wish they didn't because i know i'm with you then they could do the online show right at the end of the year they don't have to wait until march it doesn't make sense to wait until much do voting get a couple weeks together get it together and then do it yeah just do it get it done wrap up the end of the year with a nice bow tie maybe the beginning of the you know the new year but yeah like in january sometime okay so it's still fresh in everyone's mind the games we're talking about and then we can kind of look forward to 2020 email jeff at this week in pinball uh gmail.com if uh you want that for next year yep send them an email i don't know i i like that idea i really do you know what i was you know when i was watching this all i could think to myself was man i'm so glad he didn't ask us the host a live show would have been easy but what if what they had to do. That was all that, all that work and editing and, Oh my God, what they did, what Emota did. And, you know, so much and Carrie just, yeah, I'm so glad it was them and not us, man. I tell you. So, uh, I just want to give one more shout out to, uh, super awesome pinball show. Um, it's the Christopher Franchi here. He's, he spent about five minutes on his last podcast talking about us. Cause he's a big sweetheart. We love him. And, Oh, totally. And Chris, by the way, Ian is the one that man crushes on you. I just love you. But Ian's your man crush. Anyways, so he was explaining what him and I were going to do because we were supposed to present during the live Twippy event. So he went into great detail about what we were going to do. So give it a listen. I won't spoil it. It was awesome. and someday I hope to do that with Mr. Christopher Franchi. And you know what? You should just listen to their podcast anyway because it's awesome. Oh, it is awesome. They had Charlie on. Hang on. I just said that. You still don't even know what we were going to do, do you? I do. We talked about it. Oh, that's right. I couldn't remember. You told me. But anyways, go listen to the last episode. It is a good show. He has Christian Lyne, Dr. Pin on there. Ed Van Der Veen is usually there. He's obviously indisposed at the moment dealing with all that TPF stuff. Sorry. Did Dr. Penn say we swear too much or we're X-rated? He called us X-rated. That's interesting. His wife swears more than we do. Oh, I know. No, he was laughing the whole time, but he said X-rated, and I almost pissed my pants. And then he's talking to Charlie Emery from Spooky Pinball. I know, Charlie. Yeah, those guys were here. They interviewed me. He goes, I didn't know that show was X-rated. so give it a listen it's it's pretty funny and no we are not x-rated we're r-rated sometimes yeah we've been pretty mellow i don't know we just get drunk and get stupid yeah we yeah we have a stupid rating no uh adult rating all the time maybe i don't know what's dumb is rated x dumb i don't even know that's it is that's so stupid all right let's move on moving right along move on move on uh what else did we see oh game of the year jurassic park your baby oh i love it and also got uh shots and layouts and code can we just talk for a moment how come uh it was talked about another couple of podcasts but how come Keith Elwin didn't do his acceptance thing any thoughts on that nothing that would be popular with the masses no okay well no i just think he's being uh maybe he's just shy maybe he's just and that's fine but he he put something on his facebook before uh the twippies and said oh this is my twippy blazer and you know it's cool it's like okay he's getting ready for the twippies and then he wins all these awards and he's nowhere to be seen that's all i know i'm i'm kidding i love keith ellen no i know oh but yeah he uh i don't know i don't know why i didn't because he's a shy guy maybe he's just being shy maybe it's part of the maybe it's part of the allure you know the allure that is Keith Elwin yes or or maybe he's just like i'm the greatest pinball thing to ever happen to pinball ever which is fine because he is i put the pin and the balls in pinball my name's Keith Elwin this isn't even a thing until i came onto the scene i don't know keith owen you're my football in here yeah ian's got Christopher Franchi i got keith owen yeah you just step off my franchi train okay he was mine first yeah well franchi and i have a very special relationship now i can't i can't help it yeah that's all right that's okay no that's fine uh rookie of the year although we didn't win because we didn't even know we part of that we did but no i know i'm joking we didn't really we didn't really we didn't really campaign much once we got twippy voting because whatever it is what it is but anyway tim sexton way more deserving than what we did oh that was my point way way more deserving yeah we we sit here in a mic and get drunk and he does real work yeah he actually worked so good on him he did a Great job. Could I also talk about the part of the Keith Elwin Game of the Year, Best Shots and Layout, Best Code. Pete and Martin mentioned in the last episode, and I thought it was a really good point, wouldn't you think that all three of those, at least the Shots and Layout and the Rules and Code, would equate to the Game of the Year? You know what I'm saying? Whoever wins those generally wins Game of the Year anyway. like isn't that all just one award yes except could a game of the year ever lose in both of those categories i don't think so you know i it was interesting when uh pete had mentioned that and my only thought on that is if you had a game uh i'm trying to think of a good example So if you have a game that has a lot of cool mechs and has a lot of cool pinball magic, if you will, and then the code wasn't the best, I'm thinking of games like, well, think about it, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Theater of Magic, games like that. They have maybe not the best, deepest rule sets, but they're still well-loved by everyone. does that make sense yes i get what you're saying so you're saying a game with with what good shots but bad code can make it is that what you're saying or are you saying well i'm just saying no i'm saying there haven't been recently i mean those games i mentioned are obviously from the 90s right um the way things work now um like monsters i guess to your point like Munsters has great shots. You know, John Borg obviously knows what he's doing. He's a great designer. He's my favorite. You know, it has great shots, but the code isn't there. So, yeah, I guess to your point, that would be hard to do. You're right. Yeah. I can't really think of a scenario. It's not my point. It's Pete's point, and I think Pete had a great point about it. So, I don't know. I just wanted to know if you had a differing opinion. But I think Pete's right on, man. No, I'm trying to. like i think a wonka right like it shoots like a dream yep yep one of the best layouts ever code honestly code so confusing um yep yeah it didn't win either one of those categories and definitely isn't going to get game of the year because of that you know that's true but it could have got game of the year if there were more of them out there potentially if there's more of a what it could have got game of the year if there was more of them out there potentially well that's the other thing too about how many are out there who's buying them yep why isn't there more out there you know does that have to do with it though does it have to do with the shots and layout and code uh you know martin and pete don't seem too thrilled with wonka so you know maybe it's i don't know i think it's beautiful i think it's like a dream i just don't understand the rules i get my ass kicked on that game it it is a it is a confusing rule set let me let me go this way best playfield gameplay and layout uh could have went to willie wonka how's that yeah no i agree with you okay so so because i i really yeah you're right i'm a pat lawler fan too i really like the layout on there and it's hard for me because technically i don't like it better in jurassic park however yes it is a really good uh layout and so if it were me i could i could potentially say best rules jurassic park best play field game and uh play and layout willie wonka game of the year jurassic park does that make sense yes okay but i think no i i know why you're laughing and i think you have no idea why i'm laughing yeah no idea but uh i think most people just said jurassic park jurassic park jurassic park back to your point of yeah you have all three yeah once you get all the first two the third one's in the lot in the bag um well i guess i guess to that point yes if you had both of those things then yeah it would have to be game of the year yeah it'd be game of the year no doubt if you had one and not the other yep yep because because again I thinking now about Willy Wonka I looking at it right in front of me the best play field gameplay and layout And yeah, for me, it's kind of a coin flip. Really? Yeah, they're both great layouts. I like shooting both of them a lot. And I thought about buying a Wonka. So there you go. All right. All right. Anyway. So game of the year. Jurassic Park. No surprise, no surprise, no surprise. Any other surprises out there, Drew, that you can think of? Toys and gimmicks? We announced that Toys and Gimmicks award. Yeah, for Game of the Year, Oktoberfest beat Star Wars. Oh, theme. No, Game of the Year. Oh, Game of the Year. Well, theme, I thought it beat it, too. Let me see here. Best Rules, Best Light Show, Callouts, Ricky. Where's theme? Here we go. Theme. Nope. You're right. Oktoberfest beats Star Wars Home Edition. Yep, there you go. Oktoberfest is a better theme than Star Wars. Said nobody ever. Jesus Christ. Who writes this shit? What the hell happened? I don't know. People just gave up at that point in the survey. How about this? The Munsters the monsters is a better theme than octoberfest how does that happen i don't know bro people hey if you like monsters dude you're putting that down number one i know you are voting that 100 so if that's in your age years old yeah if that's your age range that's all you care about you and and josh mudd you know i i will say this though yeah after listening to kaneda's rant first of all your rants are tiring however which rants are you talking about all of them however you heard it here first folks way to go he's been busy lately it's been fun however I do agree with him that every company needs to look at these awards and at least say okay this is where we're winning this is where we're losing especially uh willie wonka is a great example of that yeah right you were so close yeah yeah because well best animations in display which means they're like you said before they're doing that right it looks the part yeah it's a it's a great package they're doing it right and and kaneda mentioned it i'll give him credit for it yeah that's awesome way to go jersey jack and i love your games and then you know best call outs they took fourth place right you know the call outs they're they're okay i have no issue with them i'm not a big call out person however but you know they they're call outs they don't cost any more money to make right you know they do but it's not it's not a it's not gonna break the bank it's not gonna put them over the edge you could spend a little more money and and get some better call outs. Best light show. They won that. That game. That light show is phenomenal. It's out of this world. Every time I look at that thing, I'm just like mesmerized by it. It's so good. Yes, it's beautiful. 40% versus Jurassic Park, 11%. That's how it is. It's one of the best light shows ever made. Period. No, I agree with you. 100%. I agree with the people. No, that's great. Yeah. So, you know, anyways, you know, Jack needs to look at that. They got to figure out that code, you know. Yeah. I feel like that's a big thing with them. The rules. A lot of people get very defensive, especially Jersey Jackheads. All they want to do is tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about. and hey listen i jersey jack games are not approachable in that in the sense of the first time you play it the second time the third time the fourth time i mean you literally have to own the game in your house in order to really understand what is going on in that game and i just don't think that would be fair i don't think that's a good way to go about it i think they need like i knew what was going on in jurassic park yet would you say that that's a shallow rule set no Jurassic Park's got a super deep great deep rule set but they approach it in a way where it tells a story you know and that's yeah what's been missing it's very well and then you know multiple characters to choose from or you don't get to choose any characters and he's like you're I don't even know what the point is in Wonka and then you find them you know Wonka bars and golden tickets and it's very very complicated with uh Elvira's House of Horrors for best rules because that rule set and i know it wasn't complete when the voting was going on yeah it was still pretty early yeah but that game that game has a great set of rules it's super fun it's actually getting pretty deep but it is really approachable because it's like shoot the flashing lights it's really good at that yes so um no that that's actually one of my that's one of my top 10 favorite sterns right now i'll be honest i can honestly say that alvarez is up there so yeah it's a long playing game those shots are actually relatively easy to make which makes it a fun game like it's not correct it's a great shooter it really is i mean it makes you feel like you're a fucking great pinball player you you need to get one of those in your house ian i don't have 10 grand or whatever the fuck they are they're just too expensive it's too much i know too much for what it is i love it I love the game. Don't get me wrong. No, I know you do. Poor man. It is. From a pinball, you know, I'm a pinball nerd. I'm not much of an Elvira nerd, but holy shit, is that a great game. Well, you know, we're at that point now where, you know, the economy is tight. Everyone's tight right now because we don't know what the hell is going to happen. So buying these games and stuff, it's going to be tougher. It's just tougher. No, I know. Selling your games now, that's also going to be a little bit more on the more difficult side. You know, it's... Well, put out a thing right now. Say Corona Special. Hang on. The Rona Special. Yeah, we'll call it Rona because then it sounds funny and quiche. The Rona Special. Whitewater, no topper. For Oktoberfest or Elvira's House of Horrors, plus or minus cash. There you go. I just solved your dilemma. Yeah, that sounds awesome, man. because you would love one of those games sure people will be knocking down my door for that one or or creature from the black lagoon straight trade baby straight trade love it there you go white water is a great game i'm not done with white water yet but there's times there i wish i had something else but it's still such a great game you you have i had room for multiple games yeah if i had multiple games i know white water would be stand but i only have room for two and Laser War is staying for a while. Yeah, I got to get it all put together still. Yeah, I can't get rid of it the way it is. No, I thought Zach was going to trade a straight-up Laser War for the Elvira. The Signature Edition? We were close, man. We were close. We almost had a deal there. We were close. Yeah, but then he wanted to go. Never mind. I'm not going to get into his business. I'm just joking, Zach. I love you. All right, so Twippies overall, two thumbs up. I loved it. Great. Kerry Hardy, Emoto Harney, once again, fantastic job. Jeff Patterson, you get a round of applause for being awesome. Yeah, great job, guys. Great, great job. Nine cheese slices, you buttholes. Good job. We love you. And to all the winners, go F yourself because Kaneda, we're coming for you next year. Oh, yeah. You better just stop podcasting today. Kaneda, if you thought your acceptance thing was fantastic, because you did, you kept telling us, Donald Trump. Anyways, our acceptance video is going to be the greatest thing you've ever seen in the history of anything ever. Okay, Donald Trump Drew. I see what you did there, pal. Kaneda, this is Macho. We're coming for you. macho awesome macho bravo what is happening uh everything and nothing that's the best part of it there's no pinball shit to talk about so these podcasts are going a whole nother level oh so i'm gonna say we uh we have lined up guys you guys are gonna love this uh we might have chris culeris canada on our show we might have christopher franchi on our show we are definitely going to get martin and Pete back. We're going to get some other tribe members on here. I mean, you guys haven't seen nothing yet, okay? We're just getting warmed up. Drew, what are you doing to that microphone? Do you keep knocking it over? Oh, my cat jumped up. I got all kinds of shit going on here. All I picture you is no pants on, yelling into the microphone about how you're coming to get everybody, and then your cat's there, fucking with your microphone. microphone yep i i got a whole thing going on here but i really like being in my office so this is awesome i see how you're not gonna pour a drink on your floor i see how that's gonna work oh no there's gonna be one spilled but the cat will lick it up so holy shit all right anyway all right let's uh let's move on to pinball news you want to do that yeah let's do it man pinball news so you know since we were on here last uh multimorphic announced a new game and uh it's called heist no the heist it's just heist yeah isn't that weird like i keep want to call it the heist everybody calls it the heist i'm sorry it just rolls off the tongue better i don't know why yeah that that's my only criticism the game the game looks awesome but they should have called it the heist maybe that was trademarked i don't know anyway so um first impressions i'll just go right i'll get right into it first impressions um i wanted it i really did i was for a good yeah before the the price tag and everything hit me a little bit and realize and real reality set in and you know the fact that i'm like a shut in now um i really wanted it i thought everything about that machine looked amazing if i had a multi-morphic i would have picked this up instantly sure for 2700 or whatever it is would you would you trade white water for that i know you can't but if you could a multi-morphic game yeah yep yeah because i like because i have limited space and he kind of designed it for guys like me okay no i don't have room for multiple pairs so there's people out there cursing and throwing shit at the uh radio right now however it's okay i only have room for two man fuck it no i'm with you i know and i love whitewater everyone knows that i love it too i also like technology i like cool stuff i like you know toys and shit it's not a virtual pin people understand that you know it's real pinball heist is awesome so um we got to figure out how to get one yeah we definitely have to play one for sure uh yeah very cool cool thing about uh you know heist um is they're already shipping it um our pal uh tribe member uh ian howard posted a picture on facebook today that his heist came he already has it in his possession yeah isn't that crazy like so cool it was announced last week yeah so guys uh i'm assuming i i haven't got a full detailed when he's going to be doing this but he will be streaming that bad boy uh gamma goat is his twitch channel so you will be seeing heist very very shortly on the streams baby and i can't wait to see it i think he was saying saturday maybe or maybe early next week but when we find out we will post it on our facebook page but very excited to see that thing in action ian here i'm editing away as usual i just wanted to let you guys know that Ian Howard did stream last Saturday. So go on Twitch, check out his latest videos. It should be on there. GammaGoat is his name. So GammaGoat is the channel of the Twitch stream. I would love to see, I love the artwork. I love the dimensions that the screen gives you, that dynamic play field, you know. I love that mech. That mech is super serious, dude. That's like an entire city skyline with a freaking crane that seems to do a whole lot more than any other crane in the history of cranes and pinball. For whatever reason, there's a big history on cranes and pinball. Yes, there are a lot of them, actually. For whatever reason, people love their fucking cranes. Well, this crane puts them all to shame, kids. I know you've probably already seen this, but I just wanted to let you guys know the poor man approved. We think this is fucking really cool. uh Gerry Stellenberg great job well played yeah i've always liked what you did and you know your game i've i've played once or twice and i'm like yeah this is cool but this takes it to a whole new level and once again now it's like i'm almost considering it um you know the the price tag is a little steep to get started but you got to remember if if they come out with 10 or 12 like really cool games the games are only like 2500 bucks a piece yep that's that's what's amazing you know because you you can buy the system and then once you have it you can get a brand new game for 2500 bucks that's pretty cool yeah you just swap them out which is yeah which they say it takes literally like a minute no it doesn't it's it's a bit of a process but it's not hard oh see someone on a podcast they were talking to him and he said literally like a minute yeah i don't know if that's true but and and i i thought that was a little uh optimistic but um no these are these are right from his mouth and i know he's the owner but he said he says i can do it in 30 seconds or something but if you haven't done it it takes like a minute so it's interesting it takes me a minute to get the glass off dude so i don't know what you're talking about i know i know but um either way very cool though very very well i have to ask ian howard what he thought yeah you know he'll probably put that on as uh um his stream i'm gonna try to make that stream so i can at least talk to him and chat with him a bit and uh give him a little bit of shit and then uh yeah ask him some of those those questions but yeah the game looks pretty goddamn cool so can't wait to play it i hope i hope to get my hands on one in the near future here if anything hopefully this virus passes and we'll have pinball shows again where we can get crazy again with each other so all right someday someday baby someday all right so what else we got drew uh what else do we have so the problem with pinball news right now in this economy is nobody's open nope so i know canada posted something about a rumor that stern is going to be releasing the teaser video for teenage mutant turtles i don't think that's a great idea if they did that just because they do you think it's going to happen though no i don't think so i think they're going to delay it until at least when the lines are opening up again no you gotta start making them i can ship them i think they're gonna tease it no they shouldn't well i i'm not saying where they should or shouldn't i think they're going to though and here's why because they are known for their cadence they're known for how they get games out and even in this time they're gonna they're gonna beat their chest a little bit and say we're the big dog we have another game it's coming that that's my opinion okay good opinion so yeah you're not wrong you're not wrong we'll see how No, like I said, I'm with you. I don't think they should. I think they should wait at least a couple weeks. But I think we're going to see it because we're in this pandemic. I'm sorry. We just don't know how long this thing is going to last, this pandemic. No, correct. Absolutely. So releasing it now makes no sense to me because it could be a couple months yet before they're even able to get into their own factory. Yeah, because the one big difference with Illinois and a lot of places, like some of the places like around here they could keep you know manufacturing on a smaller scale illinois is like shut down completely our small manufacturing shut down drew drew no i i know but there's still some places that are still you know it depends if you're essential or not i get it but um but my point is is that as soon as they can get going they're going to and that's when they should do the teenage mutant ninja turtle teaser sure but but they gonna they gonna do it tomorrow i i almost 100 guaranteeing it womp womp all right whatever dude it fine it is what it is all right in here again just wanted to give drew a little bit of shit he was wrong womp womp all right back to your regularly scheduled program love it all right let's see what else is going on so american pinball they're in their new facility but oh you know i saw that uh what was i watching oh tnt did a tour of tnt amusements on youtube did a tour of uh american pinball facility and it was very very cool this is about the time of expo it was their old facility i believe um but thought it was a very very cool video so uh tnt we love you that was an awesome uh awesome little uh behind the scenes look um the other thing uh is hot wheels um we didn't really have much to say about hot wheels before nope have you do you have any other thoughts about hot wheels to drew um i am what was that movie where they're like i'm not overwhelmed i'm not underwhelmed i'm just whelmed um you remember that there was some movie that i don't know a joke i don't know but anyways um I'm really glad to see they did a license. And the unfortunate timing really hurts them, I think, because the people that were going to buy this game were going to be operators. Yeah, they were really going for that market. Yes, yes. Good point, Drew, good point. But with that being said, you know, it's – I don't want to say it's a better game than what they've had in the past, but they're slowly moving in the right direction, but they need to take bigger steps. How's that? Yeah, no, I agree. I agree. You know, I think if they would have done this instead of Oktoberfest or instead of Houdini, they would be much better off. How's that? Yeah. No, I agree. Because, once again, it's a license theme. It's not a huge license. It's not something that people are clamoring for. and you know we were talking about you know the call outs before with Willy Wonka and how much it cost you know we have no idea but you know how much does a blockbuster license cost versus a Hot Wheels license right I mean if you're already spending the money for a license you might as well spend a little more and get something bigger in my opinion no I get it I agree with you 100% and I just feel like you know and i think they've said this in the past like there are things that are important to them you know shots and layout um putting lots in there you know lots of bang for your buck as far as mechs and toys and yeah but they did the opposite this time well right but this one i'm saying in the past they talk about doing all this stuff and then the things that weren't as important to them art animation you know yeah and now i feel like they went too far the other way like it seems like it's like a really bright colorful artistic game granted it's not their own art i think they just pulled from hot wheels stuff but yeah same thing with the animation part of it but you know they leaned really heavy into the art and animation thing um is the gameplay and the toys and mechs is it up to american pinball standards i don't know man it's it's a game that i want to play and i want to see it in front of my you know eyes videos and and photographs only do so much for me until you see it in front of you. That's the problem because a lot of us, this is the only time we get to see it. Right. And to really excite us, you have to have, like if you have Ghostbusters, I'm just using it as an example, you have Ghostbusters or Back to the Future, that's going to excite a lot more people whether they actually play it or not. Right. I like that. Yep. On a side note, Davil, a Facebook friend, requested me from American Pinball. So I accepted or whatever, and I sent him a message right away saying, Hey, man, we love you over here at the Portman Spinball Podcast. Keep up the great work. Specifically, I can't get enough of Oktoberfest. And he responded. He said something like, Well, thank you for the kind words. And then he said, If there's anything you need help with getting an Oktoberfest, let me know. and I said, yes, I need you to buy my Whitewater so I can afford an Oktoberfest. Nothing. Crickets. But how funny would that be if he came over here and bought my Whitewater so I can get an Oktoberfest? Oh, that would be awesome. That would crack me up, man. And that's the thing. Me too. Oktoberfest isn't a huge – I've said this before. It's not a huge theme grab for me, but it's a great game. but unfortunately for the masses you need something a little more mainstream I mean look at Spooky Pinball you know they kind of chug along they do okay, they chug along they got these, you know, Rob Zombie's big but he's not huge Alice Cooper, you know, has more of a niche audience and then you get Rick and Morty and it blows up, right? it's not it's not a secret recipe is my point right right theme theme theme so you know and once again i'm not a pinball businessman but i'm also you know my eyes are open and i just i just want to see him succeed that's all oh yeah at the end of the day we want everyone to be very successful yeah we want more pinball yeah and once again houdini and oktoberfest are fun games i have no issue with them they're not bad games no no they're both super fun i played a bit of both of them and and i love them yeah but but they're not games that i would go out and buy that's just the way it is so it's because it's a theme thing oh man so it's kind of a bummer it is a bummer it's it's a huge bummer because once again they are great games and uh you know imagine just imagine for a second if willie wonka was like a non-licensed theme right whoa wait what yeah yeah i just what are you talking about you broke my brain or that you broke my brain what are you talking about so that layout that layout is another theme willie wonka was you know some some obscure theme I think it was. It's called No Good Gophers. Sure, sure. So if you bring that out in 2018 or 2019, that's a big flop, right? Yes, it is. Because people are like, yeah, this game's fun to shoot. It's, you know, the animations are okay, but the theme is not there. But you slap Willy Wonka on there, and now all of a sudden it's, you know, one of the best games of the year. So that's all. yeah that that's my best argument for american pinball beautiful all right so that's it for news let's go right into our relatively new segment uh neil who last time yeah he taught us how to play alien poker which was hilarious he gave us a new game to learn so without further ado neil go for it brother Hey there, poor man. This is Neil from Fishtails. You may remember me in the game telling my bestie Bob, Whoa, you ain't gonna eat that, are you? Well, as the years have gone by, the dynamic duo of Neil and Bob have quietly continued our journey across the permafrost of the great Northwoods. We appreciate the simpler things in life, like ice fishing, sushi, Timmy Hortons, and early solid-state pinball. That's right, the simpler, the better. Nothing goes better with pinball than a bucket of ice cold blats and a winged lion. So today, you guessed it, we're going to teach you how to play Paragon. The first step to playing Paragon is always remember you're playing Paragon. Like in last episode, you need to be careful not to get bitched by the scissors flippers. Patience is key here. Try to let the ball dead bounce over to the left flipper whenever possible. Or when in doubt, flip it away to flip another day. The next thing to know is you're gonna have to get good at tap passing for top scores. When I tap pass, I make my wrist and fingers loose and I tap the button just as soft enough to make the flipper flutter like a northern pike flopping on the ice. Hopefully this allows you to tap the ball from the left flipper to the right flipper to set up a shot at the inline drops on the left. Okay now there guy, there's a couple things that could make the game change the way you want to approach it. First off, check and see if the Paragon lights are roving above the right saucer. If they are, this means you will only get the letter that is lit when the ball falls into the saucer. This makes collecting Paragon bonus random and too difficult to go for intentionally. If Paragon is not roving, this means you will not only award the next letter in order, but that the in-lane drops will also spot a letter. Once Paragon is felt, the right saucer will collect the Paragon bonus and collect 25,000 points. If the spinner's juiced more than I am after a Saturday night with the boys, then it might be worth shooting. Each time it cycles through the lights, it'll award 1,000 to the end of ball bonus. Now, to all you noobs out there, the bonus collect happens at the end of the ball if you don't tilt. So whatever you've built it up to, those are the points you get. Now, pay attention to the bonus counter at the middle of the playfield, because if you get that up to 20,000 or 30 or 40, it'll award a super bonus where that'll carry over for the rest of the balls of the game. So, lots of points to be had, for sure. Alright. Okay, take and listen to this. So shooting down the inline drops on the left is your ideal strategy to score big on Paragon. It's kind of fitting that the inline drops are called the Valley of the Demons, because it sounds like my four potential hookups here at the tavern tonight. Oh, hey Darlene, four more blats, please! Anyhow, each drop adds 1,000 to your bonus. The third drop will light the 2x bonus, and the last drop will add a 3x bonus while opening the Treasure Chamber Saucer. So that shot will give you 5,000 points, kick the ball up top, and then if you can hit it again, it'll award you an extra ball. And then the drops will pop back up. Anyhow. So, to execute all these shots, you'll probably have to get good at that tap pass we talked about earlier. get the ball trapped on the left flipper let the ball take and go halfway down the flipper and then tap that pass shoot the drops with the lower right flipper and try to catch it back on the left again then grab that wide body and tap that pass again now another notable thing in the game is the golden cliffs which is the top left saucer and it grows in value each time you collect it so just kind of pay attention it might be worth a nudge or two to try to make sure it falls in the Golden Cliffs. So Paragon can be set up really tough sometimes so if your opponents aren't scoring well and you're having a hard time getting the drops it might be a good time to change your strategy and just try to shoot the ball up top, collect some Golden Cliffs, collect some Paragon Ladders and get out of there just under a hundred thousand for the win. One last thing don't ever shoot the center advanced bonus target. It's a sucker shot like Peach Schnapps, a Cement Mixer or Ian and Drew's favorite, a New Jersey Turnpike. What's that, you ask? Hmm. Well, certain death and humiliation. Even Bob knows not to shoot this. All right, guys and girls. There's other things to do in Paragon, but you've got the essentials. Now, good luck in your tournaments as well as your after-hours romances, where you should also avoid the Beast Slayer. Unless you yourself are the Beast Slayer. Nobody cares! Okay, Justin, cry me! Okay, I'm out. This has been Neil's Drunken Pinball Tips on the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast. All right. Neil. Beautiful thing, man. Thank you so much, man. Drew, I think that'll about do it. I know we have so much we needed to do today. We didn't do any of it. No, that's fine. We didn't do tribe members. We've never done this Skype thing. I know. This worked out pretty well. I'm happy with the way it worked out. Yep, I know. We didn't do tribe members. We didn't do our mail call. We didn't do any of our scheduled fun segments. Don't worry. They will be back. We did not forget about our, what do we call this, dream off, our dream theme off. Oh, yeah. We still have that. We ran into a hiccup on that. We realized we don't know a lot of these dream teams, so it's hard to argue them. So we're still working the details on that one, guys. But yeah, like you said, Drew, we're just getting our feet wet and getting back in here. Well, once again, I think with this new format, as much as I like recording with Ian and we'll still do that, doing a couple of Skype episodes, like I said, it's quick and dirty. We can do it a little quicker and we can maybe put out a little more content. That's all. So I dig it. Drew digs it, everybody. All right. Well, I don't. But it's okay. I need Drew in front of me. I'm staring at like three empty mics and it makes me sad. That's it, man. We're wrapping it. We did it. I love it. Episode 50 in the books. Guys, we tried to do it. Guys, seriously, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. 50 episodes. We never thought we were going to get here, honestly. I know. When he and I, we have grand plans all the time and we don't follow through on anything. so we finally followed through on something we were 0 for like 2050 and now we're 1 for 2051 I mean this we might not have as many fans as Canada over there or whoever but the tribe members we have the listeners we have they're loud baby they're awesome we love you guys I can't say anything else I mean, you guys are great, and we're hoping for at least 50 more. So let's do this shit. Yeah, we're going to do 50 more, definitely. And the only thing I can say about that is suck on that, buttholes. That's a trademark. And Christian Line, Dr. Pin, we are not X-rated. We are A-rated for awesome. Yes. So... Love you too, Christian. You're awesome. Yep. Grab on my penis. Is that X-rated enough for you, bitch? Is that crazy? Ready? Dr. Penn, Mrs. Penn, fuck, fuck, shit, bitch, bitch, fuck, fuck, shit. Okay. Alright, well, we love you guys. Have a good night. okay and then neil's gonna play and then we're just gonna wrap it up because we're already at an hour mark plus i have to put in all those audio stuff so yep no that's perfect you gotta forward me franchi's uh audio i don't have it sorry franchi and i are like best friends though yeah you keep saying that yeah he uh i asked him today if he wanted to come on maybe next week sometime and and he has some other people but uh yeah he's he said if the schedule works he's he's willing to do it so you don't have to rub it in you don't have to rub sorry man sorry i maybe he's got a crush on you maybe he does you know well he loves us man he really does so that's cool well i hope he likes me this is crap all i do is think about him it's all i ever want was a little franchy love little hug oh i love it i don't even care if he wants to see my butthole i'd let him see it i don't care i don't i don't know what he's into but I'd be his friend first. He's into it, man. Maybe we get to a point where he likes to draw me naked on a couch like Rose. I'll be his Rose. I don't care. But no, he's too busy emailing you so far. I can't develop our friendship now because No, we literally Facebook message almost every other day. Yeah, I know. That's bullshit, dude.
