The Pinball Network is online. Launching. Pinball Party. Good morning everyone, or evening, or good afternoon. It's morning for me, having a little coffee. It's exactly 6.54am. I'm somewhat of an early riser, I guess compared to my earlier years where I worked until like 4 a.m. and woke up at 2 p.m. A little different. Regardless, you're not tuning in to hear about my work from 15, 20 years ago. You're here to hear about pinball. Well, we'll talk a little bit about pinball today. Truth be told, I wasn't going to record an episode this week. Just busy with life, work, music, and just a lot of stuff. In fact, we're on our way to Mexico very soon for a week vacation, so there will be no pinball party next week. But this week on episode eight, we wanted to continue kind of the trend of talking about things we appreciate or love. And ironically, the pinball show had a very similar thought of talking about things that they appreciate in the pinball world, where I was planning on doing what I'm going to do shortly and share something with you. and it just happened to be both at the same time. So I figured, hey, I got to do this this week as intended. It just lines up well with what the Pinball Network was doing as a whole anyways. So you're like, oh, where's the music from the beginning? Aren't we starting out kicking some ass and rock and roll? Yeah, we'll get there. For those who don't know, all the music you generally hear on the Pinball Party podcast, aside from the Star Wars or James Bond themes, those things, All the other songs come from Neon Dale, or I should say, more specifically, music that I write. They are oftentimes demos of songs that I'm working on that might be recorded or brought to the greater band and, hey, let's do this, let's do that. But I've been doing the music thing, I'll say, for 26, 7 years. From starting out as a saxophonist in 6th grade and then a drummer in 8th grade. And I was a percussionist, if you will. A lot of my life went to school for it. And then around my early 20s, got much more into songwriting and just the melodic side of music. I'm a drummer at heart, but for those who are our drummers out there and know, like, over time, when you're practicing, you know, whatever it may be, practicing on a snare drum or just practicing drums, you're always, if not most often, listening to other music while you're doing it. Over time, it gets, I don't know if monotonous or boring is the right word, but you're missing something. So a lot of times, drummers will gravitate towards rhythm guitar and then from there into songwriting. And I digress.

    Anyways, I'm not bashful about it. I'm a songwriter. And I've really been enjoying it the last six or seven years. I really did take a 12-year break from music full stop. I got to a burnout point in my early 20s, sold everything, kind of swore it off, just like not out of rebellion, but I just got burned out. It wasn't for me anymore. I couldn't even bring myself to listen to music.

    That's how I found podcasting. For me, the first podcast I found, I believe, was Filmcast and Rebel Force Radio, a fantastic Star Wars podcast, and a movie review podcast years ago, and a couple of them that just don't exist anymore. So podcasts were somewhat therapy for getting over music. I didn't want to see shows. I didn't want to hear it on the radio, anything, just because I got jealous that I wasn't doing it. because those who are in the industry or not, it's a hard, hard business. You give it your all. You pour your heart, body, mind, soul into it, or those that really care about it do, and often with very little return. Anyways, so I burned the fuck out. But I've been getting back into it the last six years and recorded an album last year called Cosmic. Again, I quote band name is Neon Dale. It was just me, and then I've been lucky enough the last few months from that and friends of mine to just gravitate towards, hey, I want to be a part of this. Let's do something with this again. Let's actually do it. So on this week of thankfulness, close friends, people you love, oftentimes they're one and the same. I wanted to talk a little bit about that. Being back in the depths of songwriting, I'll say that what often happens, and part of the burnout for me, is to do it well, a lot of times the subject matter needs to come from emotion. Oftentimes positive, but oftentimes negative. So part of the thing that burned me out and still can from time to time is living with, for lack of a better phrase, open scars day in, day out to really let stuff come through. It's not for other people, believe it or not. Don't get me wrong. Is it nice to get compliments about work you do? You fucking bet. Of course it is. But oftentimes there's this inside energy that just needs to – it sounds so lame, like an artist. It sounds so stupid when I say it. It needs to come out. And for me, it comes out oftentimes in lyrics or songwriting. So while I did not start with music today, while I'm very much, as you can tell, in an introspective mode and mood, especially with all the band practice lately and hitting it hard and just I'm so impressed with the bandmates, if you're listening, which you are not, Nate, Sean and Zach, it's been a blast. It's going to continue to be a blast. I'm thankful every day for the amount of talent and energy you bring to this. As adults taking this seriously, I could not be happier. And you guys know I have a very high expectation of myself and others to a fault. And I'm beyond impressed and happy with what's been going on. So thank you for being a part of Neon Dale and the music going forward. But the thing I wanted to share this time is different. I don't want to do little splices of music here and there. I'm just going to, in a second here, just play a whole song, a demo of something that, I mean, the demo is complete. The song structure is there. Forgive any pitchiness of my voice or things. This is not a final product, if you will. This is just a song that means a lot to me. I normally don't share songs and talk about lyrics or the meaning because I oftentimes hold that near and dear to my heart, and that's for me. This one, though, is, I'll just say it, it's about a very close friend of mine that tragically, accidentally, and I'm serious, accidentally committed suicide when we were both in sixth grade.

So we have two. We actually bought four bags. We'll do another two another time. Because either it's just I don't want to put this pain on either of us, or throw up on this carpet in here, which happens to be white. What flavors do we have? We have smoked salmon flavored Lay's. Can't wait. And as someone who's not a huge fan of fish, those are going to suck. and italian red meat flavor what in the fuck it has a picture of looks like yeah just like spaghetti sauce that's spaghetti sauce that's off that's off but i mean i don't know it's a nice basil leaf in the middle i would assume and some sort of i guess potato people put a lot of italian red meat on potatoes.

If it does, you know I'm spending too much money on that. But you won't care. No. Or Harry Potter. Harry Potter will also be the one like, I don't give a shit. Spend as much as you need to. Our combined theme is harry potter now do you care if the game came out if if the aesthetics the art was based on the book or the movie do you care or would you rather have one or the other because we we fell in love with the movies together you read the books before i did and i went back and read them and you know i would prefer the movie but i'd take either you take either and for the recent toy story where people were like, yeah, I can't wait. It's going to be Toy Story, all of Toy Story's universe, but it just ended up being Toy Story 4, which like, whatever.

Well, okay. we've beat the dream theme to death over the last couple weeks from superman to now nightmare before christmas which i agree even just uh visually that game would be incredible i hope and i have confidence that harry potter will happen and that we will have a very fancy version of that in our house and as much as i like stern games i think uh jersey jack you know the one like the wizard of oz that you've seen where it's like wow that's really pretty it might feel a little weird playing or a little slow or clunky, but I think they could make Harry Potter look pretty incredible.     I've done a little pinball switcheroo, Godzilla Premium to get a Ghostbusters back, and I got my favorite, Elwynn game, Iron Maiden, back in the house. Man, that fucking game is so good. You know, there, we talked a little bit about pinball today. However, last but not least, one thing I wanted to bring up, again, the positive side of things in the pinball world, is my man Raymond Davidson for the new Rush Code by Stern. Stern's Rush pinball game. I've played it. I like it. Full transparency in some of the TPN Discord. He gives me shit often. I'm like, where's my Rush? Why am I getting Rush? He's not wrong. I mean, regardless of him being part of the software design team, that game is the shit. Oh, I mean, honestly, coming from a musician, usually Rush oftentimes is a musician's band in a way because they're just very talented. Does everyone like Geddy Lee's voice? No, they don't. Neil Peart's drums? Fucking A. Great. But together, the talent, holy shit. And honestly, subjectively is one thing, but objectively, they write some so fucking good songs. So I'm one who I think the theme is great. Maybe we'll review it down the road, but I haven't owned it. Rush. Shit. It's a fucking good game. Wow. The rules are complex in a good way for people that want to put in the time and effort. But for me, it's one of my favorite recent sterns. If you, no shit, said, do you want a Godzilla LE or a Rush LE, take the market out of consideration that Godzilla, I would take a Rush. No shit. I enjoy Rush more than I enjoy Godzilla. I like Rush the band more than I like Godzilla. There we go. Theme, big time. Music, way better. Gameplay, I like Rush better. The rules, I haven't learned, especially the new code, which is what, let me use the Google machine again. code 1.0 this shit's done that's it no one's gonna do it no i'm sure there'll be a little incremental improvements here there but 1.0 for those who are unaware usually means like this thing's feature complete in the future they may tweak some stuff and this but man even before 1.0 is actually because i haven't played it since 1.0 the game is so good raymond team borg oh god it's a great game and this is not just smoke up ass i there's a lot of music pins that i think are dog shit. I won't name him on here, but Rush is one of the great ones. Raymond, Ray Day, as they say, hey, you're just a joy to chat with in TPN. Never mentioned person, but hey, your personality seems great. He's a team player. Dude's awesome. Again, another great thing that pinball has brought us. Mr. Raymond Davidson, who happens to be a great tournament player and part of the Rush software team.
