TL;DR

How to use original Arcade1Up board with 19-inch monitor mod

Summary

RetroRalph demonstrates how to integrate an original Arcade1Up game board and power supply with a 19-inch monitor mod, removing the monitor's stock controller board while preserving the voltage regulator. The modification allows players to upgrade their Arcade1Up cabinet displays while maintaining original hardware components, with successful proof-of-concept gameplay shown on Street Fighter Champion Edition.

Key Claims

  • A modified 19-inch monitor Arcade1Up cabinet would cost approximately $700-$800 total ($500 base unit + $180-$190 monitor cost)

high confidence · Cost calculation stated directly by presenter: 'the monitor's about 200, well, it's about 180, 190, and then you put in the cost of the unit, it's about 500'

Okay, so you're probably wondering why you're staring at what looks like an arcade one-up control board, but a severely butchered one. Power supply to an arcade one-up, and the PCB. The reasons why is that I've been getting requests to say, you know, your 19-inch monitor mod was cool, but what if I want to maintain my original components? Hopefully they don't look like this, but I had to piece together what I had. So in this video I'm going to show you how you can use that 19 inch monitor with your stock 1UP arcade board. Alright sit back, relax and let's do it. Alright so I'm in back of the arcade 1UP cabinet where I've mounted the 19 inch monitor. So keep in mind if you haven't watched the first part of this video where I'm modding the mount to fit the 19 inch monitor, then I'd go back and watch that first. So how do I get the Arcade 1UP board into this 19 inch monitor? Well for one, when you take that 19 inch monitor out of the box, it's going to have a metal box around what John Youssi right now and that houses the stock controller board for this 19 inch monitor. Well because the arcade one up board has both the controller board in the game as one unit you don need that So what you going to do is gonna take all of the components out of the back of the monitor You gonna take out that metal plate You're gonna wanna keep the voltage regulator in though, so do not remove that. And then what you'll be left with is a cable that you're very familiar with already because this is what was on your Arcade 1UP and the power connector, which you're very familiar with, which was also on the Arcade 1UP stock monitor. So at this point, really the only thing that you have to do, outside of ground of course, is plug this board in exactly the same way you would have on your Arcade 1UP. So I'm gonna show you that right now. Okay, we're back. I apologize for the mess. I would never in a million years suggest that your back of your cabinet looks even remotely like this but I'm trying to piece this video together quickly. So there is my stock Arcade 1UP printed circuit board. circuit board. The only thing you don't see is a ground connection, but what you'll see is that that's the LVDS connector, and that's your voltage regulator. So you plug it in just like that, and then you're going to reutilize the same power plug that you've been using on the 1UP. And then all you have to do from here, obviously, you're going to want to mount this with the double-sided tape or something, or make it look clean, but for this, I'm going to leave it this way, and then you're gonna connect your ribbon cable. At that point, if I press the power on the RK1 control board I should be good to go So it fairly simple The only thing I can show you is because I already removed it is when you get this 19 monitor there will be a metal square plate over here You're gonna remove that. You're gonna take out the stock controller board. You're gonna leave in the voltage regulator. And that's pretty much it. You can now power this up and you should be good to go. So let's spin around the front and see. All right, guys, here's the moment of truth. I'm gonna flick that power button on and let's see what we get. wait for it alright now we gotta see if it plays now I gotta see if it plays okay keep in mind I'm not making excuses for my Street Fighter gameplay the joystick that I did put in here because this is all butchered and put together because everyone seemed excited about this idea so I decided to run with it the A joystick is the one joystick I've ever gotten from Arcade1Up that was just total trash. So it hardly works. So keep in mind, my Street Fighter gameplay is gonna be severely impacted by that. Now that's not an excuse. I'm actually a pretty decent Street Fighter player, but I'm not gonna be today. I just wanna show you guys that it works and what gameplay looks like. So let's check it out. All right guys, let's fire it up. Champion Edition, baby. Always Ken Always Ken He gonna whip me I gotta Hadouken off on this piece of poop Man, I hate those elephants. Damn it. Alright, I'm leaving it there. Guys, I'm leaving it there. Total fluke. But it looks pretty damn good. It looks pretty damn good. I'm pretty pumped up. I actually almost want to buy another Street Fighter just so I can put the 19-inch mod in, although that would bring the overall cost of the unit. If you picture that, the monitor's about 200, well, it's about 180, 190, and then you put in the cost of the unit, it's about 500. But anyways, it looks really good, guys. I'm pretty excited about it. So anyways, this was it. That's all I wanted to show you. Please like the video.
