Now who's responsi- I say who's responsible for this unwarranted attack on my person? I say, I say, I say, pay attention now, boy. This is, of course, Foghorn Leghorn presents the Pinball Junk Drawer. You all asked for it. I say, I say, you all asked for it now. You're gonna get it. Boy, oh boy, are you gonna get it. Go, I say, go away, boy, you bother me. And just like that, we're coming back for your ears and your butt. This is, of course, the Pinball Junk Drawer. Big Show 78. My name is Foghorn Leghorn. With me, as always... Imaging. Imaging. Imaging and many cats. And what's that smell? Oh, no. Before we get started, before we start with the show, and before I forget, which I did the last show, big shout-out to two new e-mails we got. we got uh it comes through as rr uh he gave his name but i'll just say rr from new jersey wrote and said uh just found your show and really enjoy listening to it uh while we're while at work and driving um so he said i haven't found an episode about jurassic park pro and data east would love to hear it or if you can tell me what episode if you already covered it thanks for doing what you do. You are very welcome, RR. We haven't covered those games. I know we talked about Jurassic Park last week because you played it in a women's ladies' flip. I don't know that I've played the Dada East version. I know I have. Okay, it's alright, everyone. Destructo has came into the room and let us know what he thinks about it. He's none too thrilled. He brought his mouse with just in case everyone cares. And then listener Tom wrote, if you're giving away stickers, I'm in. I decorate one of my walls of my cubicles at work with pinball-related stuff and haven't added anything new for a while. So I sent him two, and I added to, you know, hope it brings some joy while he toils away. And then he said thanks. And if we're at Expo in October, I hope we can meet, although he doesn't think our name tags will say Foghorn, Langhorn, and Grab Your Sally, although we might figure something out for that someone's backpack mate say craft Bruce Alley someone's backpack does say craft Bruce Alley we will be there Tom and we'll figure something out I'm not sure how many of the poor men's pinball tribe will be kicking around this year I know it's a pretty strong showing last year I believe there was a bunch probably what like 15ish I'm not sure I always enjoy hanging out with Jeremy he's a trip he's really funny I laugh a lot and learn a little every now and then if you're not careful you learn a little so thank you very much for the emails and if you want your own shiny wonderful sticker all you gotta do is drop us an email if you don't want us to read it on air because you're embarrassed I understand just say don't read this on air we'll still send you the stickers just give us your email or your physical address and we will put it in the mail within a day or two because I'm prompt alright enough of the shenanigans It's been a crazy week. We're going to start with our trip, though, because we alluded to a trip last week. We went to see a concert in Madison. That's a Sylvie. It was Murder by Death's kind of their farewell tour. And we play them. We have a radio show that's been very long running, Radio St. Pete. And they're one of the bands that we play on there. And I was very sad that they're leaving, retiring. but they've been doing it for 25 years, you know. They're like, eh. And you never know what the future holds. I'm sure we will hear from them again at some point. And we got a new band for that show, too. Yeah, we did. Yes. That show was so great. It was. It was cool. But you're not here to hear about music. No. You're here about other stuff. What else did we experience while we were there, Crafty Sally? We went to an arcade. Yes, we did. We went to the I.O. Arcade in Madison. Wasn't expecting much, but I was blown away. Yeah, there was a lot there. I want to say there was, what, 15 pinball machines maybe? More than that. There was more than that because there was both sides. I was going to say probably 30. Maybe. That might be high. Got to play Dune. I had never even seen Dune before that. Yeah, it was so good. It's a fast game. That thing flies. It's a very smooth game, if that makes any sense. Some games you play and there's a lot of stop and go and this and stuff. this one uh it was set up really nice and it was like blast like it it just was fast i don't know how to describe it uh the worm thing was neat that was the surround sound was cool on it you know i had some really good games on that yeah you did yeah um i can see where that's um i can see that be a popular game i really can and i know like you don't see it out and about too much just yet but uh yeah it's kind of i'm not a big fan of brown this is very brown but that's that that's that suits what it's for yeah i mean like it's it's it's right yeah so it was uh it's just cool it was really it was really a fun shooter it was i was really surprised and i got another couple games on uh evil dead yeah i'm not good at evil dead but i like it if that makes sense do you like it because well because army of darkness that's what i was asking because of the theme i'm a i loved army of darkness while i still love army of darkness it's a fun game like i would definitely buy it you know like it unfortunately that one for some reason is the one that's crazy money now right so it's like 15 grand you're like i don't think so man uh but you know it's it's uh it's fun. It's a good game. We had a fun time there. It was a neat retro barcade kind of thing. There was a lot of games. They did have skee-ball, which is always a plus. I love skee-ball. It was the short skee-balls, though, too. It's tough to dedicate that much space to skee-ball. Like the long ones. I know. I know there's a spot here for him. Yeah, maybe. those aren't coming back up the stairs no we have a rule that if we like a game enough that it goes down the steps it ain't coming back up because we gotta switch back stairs and we don't have an escalera so that's where it's living now unless something really bad happens where we're both out of unemployed and we really need money then well our new job is carrying heavy stuff up the steps but for now let's just say hopefully not right so that was a pleasant surprise it was a lot of fun that place we will talk about the new breweries in craft brew segment did you have anything before the big announcement the big thing I don't think so a lot of fun if you're in Madison hit up the IO bar IO arcade bar because the old games were crazy cool very interesting unique video games there too yeah not galloping ghost level no but cool no not even close to galloping ghost but no not even like a millionth of that no still you know whatever yeah but um if you do go to madison i would suggest not staying at the hotel ruby marie no no it was a nice place it's just they may have had a spider problem and which became our spider problem because i don't like spider i don't either Ugh. We stayed there and it wasn't, this is gonna come across as so pretentious but it's not meant that way. We only stay at a certain level of hotel. Now, we've been young and dumb and poor, so we stayed, whatever, 10 bucks a night, sounds great. We not that anymore Like now there a certain level of cleanliness and of noise reduction that I pay for And I will pay extra for So I'm not really into hostels or staying at the, what was that one camping ground? KOA. I'm not doing that. I'm not doing that no more in life. So this one didn't quite hit the... We slept with the lights on because there were so many spider webs. I wasn't sure if I was going to see an actual mouse. Not like Mickey Mouse, like a mouse with a razor blade. So I was on my guard. Not very restful. But it was within walking distance to the arcade and to the Sylvie, so it was okay. Next time, pony up. We're going to Uber from a very nice hotel if we stay there. Right. It's okay. Again, not saying that to be pretentious. But as you move on in life, usually you can, you know, if we're affording this trip, we're going to afford a nicer hotel. Uh-huh. If you like spiders, though, it's your spot. Yeah, it's your jam. That's your, what would that lady say? Yes, the stupid show that was. Oh, my goodness. Oh, I can't remember now. It was a 90s statement. It was like, okay, anyway. I can't remember. Yeah, sorry. Crap food will shout it out in the middle of a sentence at some point. Mm-hmm. Yes. the make sure that we also wanted to say that we are going to Expo. We secured our spots. We're not doing the whole time though. I don't think. We're going Friday. Friday, Saturday pulling up steaks and rolling out Sunday. Right. However, I don't know. I usually don't drink a whole lot on Expo but you never know what you're going to run into. Do you know what happened last year at Expo? No. Dan the man brought me Pliny the Elder. Yes, he did. It was amazing. Yes, it was. You liked it a lot. I did. It was awesome, though, to have someone bring that for me. That was cool. Remember, there was someone else that was tried to get it? Yes. Aaron Davis. Yes, that was pretty fly of him, wasn't it? Boom. That's it. Yes, fly. The person actually was talking about this party, and they were like, we went to Mike's because that was pretty fly. And I went, what? What? Oh my God, holy and living color Batman. So, yes, fly. The biggest news, though, is a pinball machine popped up very local. Like, very local. Only five or six miles away. And it kind of checked all the boxes. I've been looking for a project, an older machine. not I like older machines but they have to be a certain like they have to have the outlanes like EM machines that don't have the outlanes are very troubling to me maybe it's the way I play pinball or maybe I just have to get used to it but I find a lot more they're almost like modern enough that they're not odd if that does that make sense yes kind of so uh a Gottlieb 1977 Golden Arrow popped up. And I was like, alright, well, I contacted them. I was like, let me, is it cool if I swing by after on my way home from work? This is a Friday. And they said, sure. And I came over and it looks nice. You know, that's how you even said it in the pictures. I was like, the pictures look pretty nice. I mean, for an old machine, it's an old machine. It's a 1977. And they had it plugged in, but it didn't work. It worked, but it was like kind of garbage-y because like well there's a reason everything looked nice and i was looking for the stuff that matters the back glass the play field i don't care about legs i don't care about plastics which is important i don't care about like these are things that you can replace you know the body house how sturdy is the body and uh it was it was in really nice shape and it didn't look like like it didn't look like it was routed it didn't look like anything it looked like it was just in people's houses since the 70s, which is possible. It had like the paint is nice enough that I'm not going to repaint it. I was already looking at stencils that the pinball pimp has stencils for it. So you can repaint this and make it brand new, but I don't know. This one is nice enough that I'm not going to... The weird part, this is the weirdest part about it, was like so I'm talking to him and I was like, what's the story with this? And he was like, well, we had it for, what did he say, eight or nine years or I'm sure it was like 15 years like you know your brain kind of forgets a lot of years they said they bought it for their grandkids or their kids and they don't play it so then they put it in this storage unit and it was in the back of this gigantic warehouse kind of storage unit and it would have just remained sitting there but the person that they were renting this from sold it and said well you're out by Wednesday and this was they were doing it like this was Friday they had like one week to get everything out and it was crammed full of like industrial tiles and like shelves like industrial shelving and stuff like so it was kind of almost empty and this was one of the items that they're like we got to get rid of this now them saying that it was kind of like hmm okay i could really lobe all these guys we'll see where this goes uh then i it it played enough that i know it's a working ish machine but they had rubber bands and like those things that remember like what was that guy that turned out to be a cheater his band his rubber band bracelets oh lance armstrong like they had like those kind of like rubber there wasn't a single rubber left on this thing there was a couple posts that had them and they were the original ones because when i touched them with my finger they crumbled and fell oh but most of the rubbers were in the bottom in pieces yeah in case you wanted to look at them yeah there they are and then they also like they had these this this machine has these like tent style tent ball guides along the top where it's it's a plastic it looks like a little it looks like a tent and they were mostly gone but don't worry folks they had they had like scotch tape wrapped around where those ball guides used to be and then the two little ends would be like boop there's the ends and then there's just tape and i was like well that is really unique and uh also they didn't they didn't replace the plungers so that was mushroomed from years and years of just no no tip you're like oh man but when i got into that i saw We made the deal. I don't have a truck. It's just becoming a real problem. So part of the deal was they were going to deliver it. I lowballed like $100 off. They asked a grand. I said, well, how about $900 delivered? And I'm sure they were very happy with that. Yeah. Because I'm sure they also got many people calling and saying, I'll give you $100 for it. Part of my brain was like, you know, if I drove by here Tuesday night, I bet you it's going to be at the end of the driveway for the junk. But it's a nice machine. So I brought it home, and I immediately started stripping it down, and I joined the Gottlieb Facebook group. And they're, like, active. Wow, are they active. Like, I put pictures up of it, and there was over, like, 160, like, people liking it or, you know, stuff like that. A lot of people had even said, this is a really clean machine. I was like, yeah, this is, when I took it apart, like I lifted up the play field, no one has touched underneath there at all. In the back glass when I dropped it, or the, you know, the backbox when I dropped it down, nothing. Like the bulbs that are burned out in there are the original bulbs that came from Gottlieb. The stuff that's underneath there is where it fell from Gottlieb. It's like, it's so weird. I was like, what the hell? like they didn know how to lift it up or they didn care to lift it up ever like it so i you never see that you never ever see that usually they just destroyed and about 68 people that are good at home repair have fixed it air quotes So that why it makes a funny buzzing noise and stuff You know, so I just, I mean, I've been, the legs are rusty as hell. So I've been soaking them in vinegar. And I got my first order put in with Marco's. And that's where all the rubber kit and some of that crap's coming from. And then everyone's like, you've got to go to Pinball Resource. for the other stuff. And I was like, why do I remember that? What's the problem? Oh, that's why. Because there's another story. So first I wrote and said, I have this machine, I don't know what parts I need. And they're like, well, here's the website. They said, nice to meet you. Go to our website if you want to find out what you need. And I was like, crap. But then I found the paper underneath the play field that had exactly what the actual Gottlieb numbers were. And when I sent them that, they said, okay, your order is processed. It's on its way. And then it said, when it comes, you have 10 days to send us a check back or a money order. And that's when I was like, that's what it was. So they send it first? Yep. And then you send a check? It's on its way. This is what happened last time. Because remember before we moved to Wisconsin, I didn't remember. I thought checks were gone since the 80s. Oh, yeah. We didn't have a check. We didn't. So last time it was a bother because we had to rush to a bank and get a money order and send it to them. that you use checks. I know, it's weird. So we have checks now. So literally, we're going to go, thanks. We're going to write a check and put it in the envelope with the number of the order on it and mail it back to them and it won't be a big deal. I was like, why is this place so strange? And I was like, oh, it's just, they just don't do cash. They don't do credit cards and like that. Okay, so we have to say, so we write a check to the lawn guy. Yeah. If you don't write a check and you try to pay online, there's a $25 charge. That should be the opposite. Right. $20 if you write a check. Because are you kidding me? Who owns a checkbook? I thought I landed on Mars the first time they said, where's your checkbook? I was like, what's a checkbook? What are you talking about? I was like, oh, crap. And then we went to the local bank and got our account settled. And they were like, here's your checkbook. You're going to be using it a lot. And we do. I'm like, wow. For the taxes. and the lawn guy and pinball parts apparently for got leaves uh and it's you know it's fine it i don't care you know whatever it is it is every every business is different whatever so i'm excited about this machine though you know like it's right now it's in that really crappy stage because it's in many many pieces yeah and uh you know it's so nice though like some of the like some of the metal pieces like the painted things are yeah like where the cards are new. They're new. I've never seen anything like this. Now the play field has some not planking but it's used but a lot of that's even coming off. So I'm like wow. Like the dirt not the paint. So it's coming along. I'm really excited about it. I can't wait to get it back together and start putting the best thing you can do for an EM is play it. Because it's actually the switches will clean themselves a little bit while you're going. So it's pretty awesome. I'm glad to have a Gottlieb finally. Yeah. I'm so glad I even ordered a Gottlieb bumper sticker from Marcos as part of my order. I think I accidentally ordered two. Are you going to put it on your bumper? No. Oh, okay. I actually think I ordered two rubber kits by accident, which I guess I'll make up. Since it hasn't had the correct rubbers on it for its whole life, maybe this will make it feel better and it'll work better. You'll be like, oh, look at this guy. He has a right. Go get him, Tiger. You got both. There will no longer be scotch tape on it. Oh, my God. Crazy. But, yeah, so I'm excited about it. You know, I'll keep you posted. And also, for a hair watch, this is like month two, and now I've moved past. I used to have, like, Guy Fieri hair, and then I had 80s business hair. hair. Now I'm kind of like sort of up-kept 70s parted to the side hair guy. I'm going for the full-on 70s look. I'll let you guys know by Expo, I guess, maybe. Maybe. It'll probably be I'll probably snap. It'll be shaved by then. You never know what's going to happen. Any other pinball news before we go? I don't think that there is. To everyone's favorite segment. I don't think that there is. Alright. So if you have any send me an email if you have any tips or tricks for Gottliebs because I'm sure oh yeah that Gottliebs have this door thing going on like when I open the door it doesn't look like any other coin door the door is the same but there's like a bar across it that has like a little buzzer kind of a thing I'm like I don't know what this is this is weird but I'll figure it out yeah the world of Gottlieb alright here's everyone's favorite segment Craft Brew Sally Gonna have to put your journal down Crab Brew Sally Child You've been to all the breweries around You've been running all over the town Tell me what to drink until I fall on the ground Yeah That's right, people. And we're back. So, Craft Rue. I will say, a couple weeks ago, I was sitting there and I had a new Craft Rue song sketched out in my head. Yeah. Where's that? What were you going to say? Oh, I have it in my head. Are you going to sing it? Oh, no. No, I'm going to make it. I want to make a formal one. I also have some of those skits I have bouncing around. Uh-oh. I have a lot of ideas. I have no drive. I think is the problem. We'll just stick with Glenn's. Probably. Anyway, and if I do one, I'll like labor over it, then we'll like laugh and play it one time, then we'll just go back to Glenn's. I'll be like, well, that wasn't, the return on investment for that one was not worth it. Right. All right. What do you got for us this week? So we went to two breweries this time. Two. Two breweries. So we went to a brewery that was attached to the Sylvie called Vintage. Brewing Company, and I have to say I'm very disappointed. That one felt like a restaurant to me. It was. Sometimes a restaurant has good beer. Like, if it's a restaurant brewery, they have good beer. This one was not at all good. Just serviceable. Yeah. I mean, I had five, like a flight of five tasters, and I have to say I didn't really like any of them. I had Go Man Go, Mosa Sour, Smooth Rainbow Ride, Key Lime Wit, and Late to the Party. There's a couple of, like, they're the kind of stuff that you like. Yeah, like, I thought I would like the Key Lime Wit. No. One of them said it was, like, coconutty. I think the key lime one I think it said that it was lime and coconut and I think maybe they just passed the coconut over top of it and added it into the description because it wasn't there but then we went to the Sylvie and I redeemed myself with a line in Kugel tropical hazy IPA and you know that was one of those things where I think there was a couple places we've been to where it's not like the beer's bad. It's just like, it's uninspired. It's just kind of like, who cares? Right. And you like well I want this kind of effort I just go get a Budweiser Right Which is just a one beer please And they be like here you go You like okay thanks You know Carrefour Sally really wouldn do that though No of course not So now who all hoity I am an admitted beer snob. Okay. But then we went back to the Sketchy Hotel and went to sleep. For our night of terror. Went to sleep with the lights on and woke up the next morning and we went to Nuclaris. Yeah. That's a pretty famous Wisconsin beer. It's like the Wisconsin beer, I think. Well, line and kugel is the Wisconsin beer. But they only sell beer in Wisconsin. Gotcha. They make Spotted Cow, which everybody asked everybody from Wisconsin to bring to Expo. But in true Wisconsin fashion, we were drinking before 11. Or Craft Brew Sally was. Because someone else had to drive two and a half hours home. This guy. Yeah. But it was really nice. It was, like, it was nice to see. It was nice to hear the story of them. Like, they were, Budweiser tried to, Anheuser-Busch tried to buy them twice. Yeah. The lady told him to go pound sand. Yeah. Which we, on our other radio show, I kind of was musing to you, kind of saying, I couldn't turn them down. Right. I would take the money. Right. You know, and that's, if you're listening and want to buy this show, let me know. I will totally take your check and then this is your show. We don't take checks, Ed. The pinball trunk. We'll mail you an invoice for the show and then you send it back with one and a couple of zeros at the end of it. Boom. This is great. I remember when, what was it, Wayne's World sold out and it was like. Oh, yes. Oh, so sad. Oh, it was. But then they're kind of like saying, like, he went to brewery school and was like, and then he did his internship or whatever you want to call it. Like a master brewer. Apprenticeship over in Europe. Yeah. So there's a lot of knowledge there. Oh, yes. So then they like really gambled for this thing. It was an interesting story. Like, it was one of those things where it could have easily not been a thing. Right. But their perseverance and then like busting their butts made it what it was, you know. And it sounds like they still are working in the brewery. Yeah. And so we had a couple beers that we hadn't had before. We had Serendipity, Two Women, and Totally Naked. But they also brew a beer that you can only buy at the brewery. And they are research and development, and they make one batch every year. so the one we had was Champ du Blanc and that was 2024's batch I think it was batch number 10 and it had no affiliation with Matt LeBlanc no also just for reference if you want your name on a poster board at the door then you drink totally naked totally naked and that's how I got on that thing I started pulling my pants down and they slapped me and then they made me write my own name on that do not let this man in here especially if he has no pants on so do not take totally naked very as literally as i did i guess so listen we learned at new glaris a bunch of prudes anything else that's all fiction that it was in my head right along with that along with the oncoming Terminator war that I swear is right around the corner. Right. But New Glarus is a very Wisconsin friendly I mean it's an employee owned so they really take care of their employees too. Yeah it's cool. It had a very Benton Wisconsin vibe. It did. It felt like spooky like when we were driving to this tiny little town and there's just one New Glarus is rocking it there it felt how when we were driving to Benton and we went to eat at that place and they turned around and they were like, you ain't from here. We were like, can I just please have a hamburger and leave? And then we left. That was Benton, you know. It was the same thing where it was this very small town with this one powerhouse kind of rocking. I believe that if I could be wrong, but I believe that the town gave them some of the land or gave them a deal on some of the land that they bought. I can't remember. Yeah, that guy said you can have it if you because it was this old warehouse. Yeah. And that was their first one, and they just gave it to them for a dollar. Same kind of thing, I think. They want, you know, and that's kind of a cool thing with small businesses or small towns. Small towns, yeah. They want to be somebody. They want to succeed. They want to have something that makes them on the map, you know, puts them on the map, and that's how you do it. Yeah. Roll the dice. What was he going to do with that old warehouse anyway? Right. You know, just watch it rot into the ground. Mm-hmm. And one of the things, like, they used to sell Spotted Cow in Chicago, but she got tired of driving to Chicago, so she decided not to sell it in Chicago anymore. Yeah, that's a little bit of a, I don't know, like, okay. It probably wasn't worth it. And that's, yeah. Right. It also builds the lore. That's how Coors was like, oh, Coors, it's this weird thing that starts gaining momentum because you can't get it. kind of like every sales model for everything now is that a bad thing? I don't know sorry if you like Coors I'm good for you that's okay you already said you were admitted to beer snob yes sorry so yay for that anything else? I don't think so I don't think so either obviously just very recently we lost Ozzy Osbourne we lost Hulk Hogan Hulk Hogan Chuck Mangione something like that then there was Malcolm Jamal Warner everyone's going so I guess what I'm saying is Shazbot, Nanu Nanu I'm dropping in a nice little ditty from Ozzy on the way out in remembrance, he's one of my favorites that gonna do it? thanks for listening everyone, this has been the pinball junk drawer show 78 make sure to listen or have a friend listen and if you can rate and review the show it really helps drive us up the charts yeah find us on Facebook and like that kind of stuff like and follow our page and if they want to send us that email I talked about what would they send it to pinballjd at gmail.com I should have said that right after I said send us an email for a sticker if you've made it this long and you would like a sticker please email us that's the kind of quality they're used to with the pitbull junk drawer all right that's gonna do it thanks for listening everyone as noted earlier shazbot nanu nanu We all must stand together now Or one by one we fall For all these years you've stood by me God bless I love you all That's it man Game over man Game over
