Oh my gosh, what is this and why is this and who is this and where, why, what, when? Anyway, my name is Mal, otherwise known as Foghorn Leghorn, otherwise known as listener number 15, tribe member number 2, otherwise known as nobody, something. I have too many aliases. Who is with me? Just Craft Bruce Alley. What's your tribe number? Oh, we didn't get you that. I don't have a tribe number. Anyway, enough of that. Now, this is a little bit of a special circumstance, everyone. So, to preface, this has nothing to do with pinball. So, if you're a real purist, go ahead and turn that off rather than writing an angry email about it or something. So, again, this has nothing to do with pinball. It's just something cool. So, I have a long-running radio show down in Radio St. Pete called The Indie Circuit. I do a second one called Saki Mama Go Go, but we're just going to drop in the indie circuit because it hit 500 shows, which is 10 years. Very long time. So it was something I thought would be very cool to share with our family and friends. And since the tribe is part of our family, wouldn't you say so? I would say so. I would say so as well.

Come with me if you want to live. All right. First of all, calling out my audio guy techniques. Anyway, what is this? You know, this is a huge, huge accomplishment in my life. We're talking about the Indie Circuit. Big show 500. And I say big show every week, but this is actually a big show. This is a big deal. We're hitting 10 years on Radio St. Pete. My name is Mal. With me for the first time, although she says not, but my brain is a little fuzzy. Who do I have with me? I am Craft Brew Sally. The lovely and talented Craft Brew Sally. She's on a lot of the other shows I do. We do, I should say, not I do. But I am saying it's the first time appearing on the Indy Circuit for Big Show 500. See, when you drink a lot of beer, folks, that's what happens. Memory's a little fuzzy. But I'm going to start off by saying, if you're used to the regular show, if you are a regular listener, thanks very much. I'm very honored. This will be a little bit different. We were going to do a clip show, and then I was like, oh, clip shows, I don't like clip shows. They're kind of- They're kind of clunky sometimes. And they're tedious. Yeah. Like, you're like, ugh, okay. You're like, yeah, I already saw this. So then I thought, you know what might be fun? We're going to do a trip down memory lane, and I'm going to do a little bit of the before times and then we're going to talk about the decade that was happening around us as we were here on the indie circuit each and every week and then hopefully we ride off into the sun. No wait, we're going to keep doing this show. There will be music. And maybe I'll have a first appearance again in the future. Probably within five shows. I will not remember this anyway. Tomorrow I won't remember this. Too much beer and rum. So what we're going to do is I am going to drop in some music. Right now I'm going to do a quick music break. They're probably going to be shorter. I usually do a nice, like a block of music each time, but I'll probably just do like two songs per drop because there will be a little bit more talky than you might be used to. Anyway, let's gather our thoughts and take a sip of coffee while we drop in some of this awesome music. I wanted to do Bang Bang, My Baby Shot Me Down, but then I would have immediately broken the thing I just said, which I do often, but I'm going to try not to this show. It's a new day for all of us.

So anyway, the Times, I'm going to do a synopsis, a quick synopsis of the Times leading up to before I met, before I became part of the RadioStPete.com family, which I will say kicked off officially at noon on July 4, 2013. Wow. I think I followed directly after that. But anyway, so the four times, if you've heard this story before, sorry, this is going to be a very cliff note version of it. Grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, went to Penn State, graduated. Yay for that. Then we packed our belongings into a little jalopy and drove down to, fell off the turnip truck in Clearwater, Florida, and learned some harsh lessons. That was in 1993. throughout that time. We found our jobs, careers, kind of. We had numerous exchange students. First one was Conoco back in 2004 to 2005. Yep. Then who was it after that? Then it was Tao, 2006, 2007. And Tao, they're all still part of our lives. Tao is actually now an American citizen. Yes. She has more degrees than me. Yes. She has more children than me. Well, not yet. but soon anyway then who's after then we had sarah sarah 2007 2008 oh wow yeah and then kyoko yes 2008 2009 yep and then elena that was 2011 to 2010 or 2012 to 2013 see now that was right when i came back i took a hiatus because i couldn't stand hearing about where i worked one more second And so I said, I'm gone. And I went to Korea from 2011 to 2012 to teach English to children who did not want to learn English. Struggling times. But good times. Because you don't know. Sometimes you have to push boundaries to keep your mind from closing in on itself. Because that does that very quickly. Especially as years advance. Get off my lawn, you kids with your baggy pants and your beepers.

So I landed back. 2012 is when I landed. and then me and my dad went back to, we were blacksmiths at a heritage village. Now this was in Pinellas County, Florida. And we, as my dad said, let's go ruin some perfectly good metal. And we did that early and often. And we made a good team. Like I would, when kids would show up, I would, my dad would talk and whatever, and I would make stuff. And if the kids hung out long enough, I would give like a little, the girls would get a little metal heart that I made while they were watching. and boys would get a little metal machine gun or knife. No, they would get a little S hook. That's what they usually got. No knives. Don't give kids knives. I learned that from the first lawsuit. So then, I did not. So then one day there was like this open house event at this heritage village and we were doing our thing and off in the distance, I see a CEO of where I used to work or I worked at that time. and he was he'd retired but he was starting up radio saint pete and i said hey and i called him over and he came over and he interviewed us a little bit for like some bumpers and some drops for this for the event for his soon to be launching radio saint pete.com and i said you know what i like to talk you know what corporate corporate radio saint pete corporate head headquarters I have many many many years of doing dumb stuff on air various ways I would very much like to be part of that and he was like you're in just do something because also before that I told you this was going to be a talky episode everyone I had a public access TV show from 1999 to 2007 when they officially yanked that rug from out from under our feet and in 2006 I started the original podcast that ran for a long time called Bunch of Dorks. Still floating around out there, but it didn't age too well. Let's just say modern era is a little bit more... Sensitive. Sensitive. Politically correct. And then I was trying to think of all the shows I did, because there's like hundreds. I did the Slow Robot-A-Go-Go, which is this B-movie podcast that's still out there. Look it up. Slow Robot-A-Go-Go. If you like B-movies, we did 335 shows or something like that, but there was like two or three movies per show, so there's like hundreds of movies. You can't believe we're movies.

I did like the music dojo that was over in Australia. I did the Asian cult cinema, which became Kung Fu Cinema that became Asian cult cinema. Then we did the Creature Feature starring Doc and Clown, which is like kind of a Creature Feature thing we were trying to do that didn't go very far and go very well. And now these two shows, because I do this one and then directly following this one, I do Saki Mamagogo. So let's just say I have a lot of experience talking to microphones and he's like, whatever, sure. Well, the first show went and then got immediately yanked because I didn't realize he was going for PG because it's a radio station. So my first show was very cursey and I dropped in music that was very not correct. So good luck finding the first one. and I went if you would like to stay on here you're going to have to tone this down some I went oh yeah I should have asked these questions before so I really went I had to like I ripped like half the music out of the library I had at that time because it was all angry, cursey, punky whatever nonsense so now you're caught up now I have officially landed in Radio St. Pete and now you are officially going to stop hearing my voice and Crafty Roussali's voice and it's time for more music.

And all was right in the universe again. That was the world famous 5678s. I played two of Craft Brew Sally's favorites, which were... Barracuda. That was the second one, and what was the first one? Mothra. Masuda. We got the Fledger. I saw them three times. Craft Recycling. I had seen them twice. First time I saw them in the UFO Club in Tokyo. That was with Kaneko. We got tickets and went. It was amazing. It was so, so packed. I think the UFO Club has a capacity of 85 and it was at 260. It was like a train. Couldn't even move. It was insane. Just pushing you in. Yeah, I will say the more times I go to Japan, the less times I want to leave Japan. I love it there. So we also, then we saw them, when was the other time? We saw them in St. Pete at... Janice Landing. Yes. That was the 2019 Christmas Holiday Hootenanny. With Reverend Horton Heat. Yes, and Crab for Sally became a big fan of both of the bands after that show. It was really wild. And then earlier this year, we saw them in Minnesota. Minnesota at a VFW. Yes, I had never been in a VFW. It was so much fun. You've led a better life. I used to see a lot of punk shows back in Catasauqua, Pennsylvania. Look that town up. We'd go to punk shows when I was a rowdy teen, and you had to walk past all the surly vets that were upstairs in the VFW to get downstairs to listen to music they hated, and they hated you. And at that point, they were drinking, going, why did I defend this country?

It's okay, vets. We're trying our best. What can I tell you? We're all wrong. So now we're going to kind of go over a little bit of what has happened, because I will tell you something that's interesting when I reflected upon it. I've never missed a week recording here. I literally have done 500 shows in a row. There was one or two weeks where the show got preempted because it was on Christmas or something like that, and, of course, that makes sense. But I have done a weekly show every week for these two hours, and I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's my only – what's keeping me sane? like my personal you guys are my personal therapist because I have, of this list I was looking at there's been some not so good ones there's been in fact tragic ones but we're not going to talk about, well I'm going to talk about those a little bit but I was coming back from Korea and when you spend time away you come back with different eyes it's hard, you don't think it's going to be that hard but it's very difficult to settle back in. But eventually you get going. Obviously I had Crafter Sally welcoming me with open arms and the kittens and all that kind of stuff. Now we did lose. We had four cats in Clearwater and they slowly died off. First we lost Abu and then we lost, who was the next one? Kink. Then the brothers.

Craft Beer Sally loves Disney. In fact, we have an upcoming trip to Disneyland in California. So she always names her cats after Disney, and I try and find the most non-offensive, insane names I can think of. So, you know, of course, one of the biggest, one of the things was the move, the big move from Clearwater to Greenville, Wisconsin. Right. Yeah. We sold our house that we lived in since 97. Yes. In 1997 to 2020, our house went on the market and sold in 15 seconds. Then we were homeless. Well, we weren't homeless. We had a month to find a house. Yes. So we landed up here and said, we need a house like this minute. And they were all selling out from under us. Yes, and that was a really hard weekend. It was. Not fun. But our realtor, we found the house we were at. They were still building it. We were walking around on wood planks and crap, and they were still putting in things like walls and stuff. And we were like, well, this one's nice. And she called up the people that were building it, and she's like, they need a house by October 16, 2020. That was our official. That's when we officially became Wisconsinites. Yes. And the cheese ran through our veins.

Oh, that band is so good. So I'm trying to think of what else happened. We did stop having exchange students. The last one was Alina right when we kicked off this show. Yeah, I think she left shortly before that. Oh, okay. And yeah, we kind of felt we were a little bit aged out, I think. Yeah. We've been to Graceland a couple times. Yeah. We haven't since they redid it. Correct. They sold it to a company that made it into a real, or is trying to make it into a real destination. Yeah. And we want to get back there. They took out the Heartbreak Hotel, which made my heart break. Yes, literally. No, not literally. Figuratively. Yes. People don't know what literally means. They say that, but they're like, no, no, no. you're talking about figuratively. Yeah. The, um, I didn't love Elvis until the first time we went there. Oh yeah. I am trying to think, what else do you have on your list? Because I have one that's, I'll close out this talky segment with it. So some of the things I wrote down was our niece Molly was born in 2013. Oh, see, there you go. She joined her brother who was already in existence. Yes, Brandon. He was in reruns by the time she came up on her new show. Our friends Mark and John got married. Yes, they did. Um, Kyok got married. Oh my God. We went, and we went to, we went to Japan. I, I reflect on that. Two gaijin sitting in the Jojo castle. She got married in the Jojo castle in Kyoto. Yes. And we told the other parents, the other family, the exchange students we were hanging out with the one day. And she looked over at us and went, that's not normal. She's like, that, that's doesn't happen here. That's not a, I likened it to people being married at like Disney. Right. People do it. Yeah. But not many. Yeah. So that was incredible. She gave us one of the greatest, other than, like, her year with us was great. And then she gave us one of these memories I'll cherish forever. I couldn't believe it, you know.

And then the next year you got ordained and you performed Tao and Chris's marriage. Yes, I did. Yep. So Tao got married by me. I performed the wedding. But I tried to make, I wanted to make a shirt for a while. See, I got like the card that said I was ordained. I paid a little bit extra for the kit. I was trying to get like free parking and I went into Subway and asked for a free sub and they wouldn't give me one.

Yeah. And in the same time, in this time period working with you guys, I came back from Korea. I lost the job that I had for 20-some years because they actually outsourced all of the widget making portion to India. Then I got a job. They were trying to keep me on with a different department in third shift I went nah nah nah brah So then I worked for this other company which I hated but I stuck with it because they had an office up here so I could transition so we could get a mortgage. Then I immediately found another job. So I've had, I lost a job, I quit a job, and now I'm on a third job, which I'm on the fence about. I kind of like it, but there's some stuff I'm kind of like, I don't know. But every job's kind of like that probably. So, yes, it's been a tumultuous job life. Yes. We're both kind of, we're at a crossroads. We're kind of both going, we'll see how this goes. I played Chick Habit and Pavou Lola, which is poor Lola in French. Anyway, enough of that nonsense. So now we talked about we've moved and sold our home. We've talked about changing jobs. Well, why not take off another of the most tragic things in life? My father passed away. And that was in 2015.

Believe it or not, folks, I did a show that week. I just channeled Brett Favre and said, you know what? Pop would say, do it, you sissy. He was like that. my life became a lot less happy or not a lot less silly and funny my dad gave us tons of laughs over the years and we went from making memories to just having memories and that sucks but because we did a lot of stuff together we went to the Heritage Village we were blacksmiths every weekend for not in the summer you don't blacksmith in the summer in Florida that's you'll fall over dead and then we all whenever I went to like arcade auctions he would go with, he had no interest in it, but he would go with and he'd look at stuff and then he'd leave for a while and go to like wherever. Have coffee. Exactly. Some of the stories we could do a show just on his stories. One of the ones that makes me laugh all the time was he used to, I think he used to get hollered at for having candy. We used to have a candy bowl for all the girls and for us too.

After he passed away we were cleaning out the sofa. We found all these wrappers. He had eaten. He would sneak one and then shove it on the side of the wrapper or of the sofa so he wouldn't get hollered at. There were a lot of wrappers in that couch. So funny. So many laughs. I mean, he just, I don't know. One of mine is when you, it was when you were in Korea, one of our shelves in the kitchen, one of the little like tabs that hold the shelf up would It would come out and it would break. They had those janky plastic ones where they clicked in place, but if you moved the shelf, it kind of just fell out. Yeah. As soon as the plastic was that brittle crap. So he decided to fix it by using a drink pitcher. A pitcher, a Rubbermaid. Yes, to hold the shelf up. So one day I go in there and I take that out because I'm going to make stuff in it. and the whole shelf, everything on that shelf just came crashing down. I like the one where he busted, I guess at some point he busted my sister's waffle maker, so he didn't tell her. He just put a $20 bill in the waffle maker and just left. And like months later when they were on the road, my sister opens up the waffle maker and just said, I think it just said like sorry or something broken, sorry. Oh, that's classic. Yeah. So, yeah, again, you know, it's been a tough decade. Yeah, that's true. But I'm trying to think what else. COVID, of course. COVID, yeah. Oh, my God. Oh, yeah. COVID. Remember that, everyone? Yes. Sure, we all do. We all suffer. Still remembering that. So this was because of COVID, I was fortunate enough to learn how to vaccinate people. Oh, something that Crafter Sally never thought she would do or never ever wanted to do. I never thought I would, but I actually enjoy doing it. I shouldn't say enjoy it because that sounds weird that you're sticking people and you're enjoying it. But you're also away from the other part. Yeah, it's something different. And that's what kids don't realize. Listen, you youngsters out there. What kids don't realize is you get a job and it just becomes just the same crap day in and day out. Your life kind of just gets into, I don't want to say a rut, but it just gets into a repetitive thing. And that's not it, but a lot of it is just that, except for traumatic change, which we just discussed. So I guess it's been a real interesting decade. Right. The 90s, we met, fell in love, got married, moved to Florida, got new jobs, got new everything. When we landed in Florida, we had a rental couch that pulled out of our bed and a 13-inch TV on a milk crate. And that's not a lie. And we've slowly built up this empire, this media empire for nothing. So that was an exciting decade. The 90s were insane. I graduated Penn State in the 90s. Then 2000s and 2010s. We had all the girls. All the girls. Yeah, they were all exciting. And I'm curious. This one has been the most challenging decade. Yes. But I like... I liked the move to Florida much better than the move to Wisconsin, probably because we didn't have... Because we had a milk crate and that was it. And we had a little goofy cat that used to... Look at the West Play. I used to play Super Mario on that little 13-inch TV, and he would try and get Mario, and it was the happiest time. You know, when you kind of, like, look back over the eras of your life, it can't really go by decades, but you go by the eras, you know.

I am hopeful that this one is, like, kind of rejuvenating as far as, like, new and exciting. You know, we're trying to, right now we have these goals we want to do. We want to put the basement in. We're going to Disneyland. We're going to go to Japan again in 2025, we think, we hope. Yes.
