Hello friends, welcome to the RayRay Show, a pinball podcast that is about competitive Rachel Ristel, co-host, Raymond Davidson John Popadiuk, Bob Betor, Keith Elwin, Laser Los, Bowen Kerins, Lyman F. Sheats Jr.., orbit ramps, Automated Amusements, Python Anghelo, Joe Kaminkow, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. Okay, alright. What are the memories of that tournament for you? Well, it was pretty far ago, so I don't remember too many of the details, but the main event, I just remember, was worth so many Whopper points. It was like 260 or something for first, and I got over 100 for coming in 12th, which is just absurd. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get enough on because Barracora, you just get multiball and play that forever and Simpsons, I love Simpsons. But unfortunately, Barracora, I got like three flips and had like 36,000 and that was it. That's unbelievable. Yeah. Did it have lightning clippers on it yet? Maybe. I don't actually remember. There was recently a modification on the game for lightning clippers. It makes that game so much harder to find the shot. Just, I don't know. I don't know if that was before or after. It was probably after. Basically, I think I shot a target and just went out the right out lane, and I like, repeated that all three balls. Yeah. The next, The Simpsons, I was kind of in my head a little bit, and I did okay. Like, I put up like, you know, 15, 20 million, but Robert Byers put up like 40. Oh. And the other two people couldn't get anything going, so I at least got a second on that. I'm a fan of the Simpsons, but I was just every time I drained on Simpsons, I just was kicking myself because I was like, I should be able to blow this game up like this is my favorite game ever. So then I went going into memory lane and I was kind of in like rage mode and also like don't care mode. And I actually had the best game of memory lane I've ever had, which was like 500,000. Oh, and all the stars were aligning perfectly so that I would get first and have six points and the person that had five points was gonna get last so they were gonna get fought they were gonna stay at five and everything was aligning perfectly and then Luke Nahorniak as player four with 40,000 points goes all the way on ball three somehow survives and hits like every gets fills up his strikes gets 3x bonus hits lots of spinners it was just insane I I was like, oh my god, no, this wasn't part of the plan. Oh no! The one time I have a good game of memory lane, it wasn't good enough. Mmm. Isn't that the way it goes sometimes? Yeah, I just, oh man. So that would have been a great story to get through that round, but I just didn't quite pull it off. But it got me 12th, you know, instead of 16th, so I'll take it. That's not right. I came, talk about points. There was 150 players. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. For sure. So after the Winter 3X, then you went to Delaware to the Pinball Collective? Yeah, I think that was next. Sure. And that was a really fun time. I had never been out that way before to the Delaware Pinball Collective. Tell us all about it. Well, they have a great collection of games, all different eras, and they all play pretty good. And it was just an unlimited entry sort of deal. Your favorite? You really do enjoy that? And that's it. I hope you enjoyed the video. If you did, please subscribe to my channel and hit the bell icon so you don't miss any of my new videos. Thanks for watching. I'll see you next time. Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye! Then I won the last game of pro football. Have you ever played that game? I don't think so. It's got four flippers arranged, you know, as you would expect four flippers on an older game to be arranged. And then it's got just basically two very targets and then a spinner in the middle. Nope, I can't say that I've played that one. Two very targets? Wow. Yeah, and so the funny thing is, when I was playing it in practice, I was just shooting up the middle, Brian K. Mayi, I was like, oh wow. Was it kind of like a perfect triangle? Yes, exactly. Yeah, you got it. Wow. Okay, wow. That's awesome. And that's 100% the reason why everybody, you should always pay attention to how other players play the game, because you can always learn something. That's awesome, Raymond. Yeah, it came in handy for sure. And then in finals, it was really close between, well, unfortunately, Jerry Bernard somehow slam tilted Jetspin without even tilting it. Like, it just went straight to game over, but the GI and stuff was all still on. And with just a cabinet slap, like just like a little tap on the side. And I guess there was a misaligned slam tilt switch in that area or something. But the ruling was, you know, he ended the game for all four players, so he has to get a last place on it. That was a bummer for Jerry. Yeah, that's rough. But then it came down to on pro football again, and I needed 100,000 to win, 95,000 for a tiebreaker, 90,000 to guarantee third. And I think I got like 97, like I fell one shot short of winning. But the tiebreaker was me and Alberto Santana and he picked Blackjack and we had this epic tiebreaker game on Blackjack. Unfortunately the camera didn't show his game but you could see my game on stream at least of me trying to catch his score because it was one player at a time because that game was having some issues with the score display. Okay. Oh my gosh I almost caught him. He had like 450,000 points and I only got 420,000. John Popadiuk, Bob Betor, Keith Elwin, Laser Los, Bowen Kerins, Lyman F. Sheats Jr.., orbit ramps, Automated Amusements, Python Anghelo, Joe Kaminkow, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. Awesome. Well, it sounds like it still was a good time. That was a new to you game? Pro football, the only time I'd played it before was at Pinburgh. It was in the finals on stage at Pinburgh. Okay. And like I said back then, we all just shot up the middle. We didn't mess with those very targets, but this one, it was the play. Awesome. Yes. So then on the main finals, I cruised along my first two rounds. Like everything was going perfectly. I was just winning. Like things are growing great. It's amazing how that can, you can be in the flow. But then in the finals, I started to fall apart and I couldn't, just couldn't make my shots, couldn't do anything. I had like a 30 point ball on Deadpool, like it was that sort of thing. So yeah, that's not good. And then so then on Iron Maiden, I had this epic ball where I put up like 300 million just trying to get to get second place in the tournament because I already couldn't win. I already couldn't get first. So I tried to get to second with a big ball on Iron Maiden, but then Jason Zoller on his last ball, he literally just shot like 30 loops in a row and got like 500 million points in like a minute. Like it was insane. Nobody could believe what they were seeing. And so he ended up winning the tournament with that and knocked me to a tiebreaker with Steve. And I had to get out of there to catch a plane, so I picked 8 Ball as the tiebreaker and narrowly beat Steve. We both had very short games, but I managed to do just a little bit more. That's great. Well, that's really, really good finish then for you. That was actually, they called it the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Pinball Open. Yep, and they want to do it again next year, so keep an eye out for that. Oh boy, I might have to put that on my might have to put that on my travel plans for next year. We'll see. Depends if I qualify for Women's World Championship again next year. I don't know that that's another weekend that throw, you know, to throw out my calendar too. So Jason Zala did take the tournament and point-wise for that, that was a hundred and three points that he took home. So that's insane. Yeah, that's a lot of points. Awesome. So then after that you played John Popadiuk, Bob Betor, Keith Elwin, Laser Los, Bowen Kerins, Larry K. Sheats Jr., tabloideatquake.tv So they could punch our ticket to come play the North American Pinball Championship, which was held, of course, at District 82 in De Pere, Wisconsin. Tell me about that, Raymond. How did you feel going into the tournament? I guess maybe my first question here is, or thought, is that you played enough at District 82. Did you have, and you feel comfortable on the games, you know how most of them play. Did you already have a bank of games in mind coming in or did you come in and want to flip them a little bit first before you made decisions? Well, I slept in through the practice session because I wasn't going to get there at 8 a.m. especially because I had a mind. Good for you. Yeah, absolutely. So I showed up at like 1130 or something. And I, I basically just picked games based on previous experience with them. And they're just games I like because you got 30 seconds of practice every every time you played it. So yeah, I didn't see the need to practice ahead of time. So I just picked titles that I liked. You know, Whirlwind. That's supersonic, actually, I normally wouldn't pick but I remember playing it At District 82, and that specific supersonic had a very specific skill shot that you could find. And the tap pass worked great and everything on it was like the spinner was right where you expect it to be. So that ended up being a good asset was picking that supersonic quite a bit. All right, well, walk me through your games. Walk me through your tournament. Walk me to your win. Uh, yeah. Oh, man, I'm trying to remember. Oh, no spoilers anybody. Congratulations, Raymond, on winning. Thank you. The North American Pinball Championship. I have said that to you in person, I believe, and by message, but I want to congratulate you again on that. So no spoilers there, folks. So please, Raymond, yes, talk about your games. I want to hear all about it. Yeah, I can't remember exactly game for game because there's not really any record of it. And I wasn't actually on the stream at all until my final battle with Escher. But my first round I think I faced Steve Hill from Missouri, who was pretty good. It was a good battle. I picked, I think the games that I basically was picking every time was Supersonic as my old, Shadow as my new, and Whirlwind as my mid. Okay. And yeah, I think it that I was pretty money on shadow just doing those loop combos. But Steve was starting to do them too. And I was getting a little worried. I was like, Oh, crap. But luckily, I was, I was able to do more of them successfully. So good that that was very valuable. If you don't know on shadow, you just shoot the left orbit into the side loop. And every time it goes up in value, and it stays the whole game. So if you just commit to that and do nothing but that, You can basically get any score you want. And it was actually crazy watching Escher and Colin play a game where Escher lost 3 billion. It was insane. I watched that. I watched actually quite a bit of that. I had it on in the background while I was actually home that weekend. I was not on the stream, can you believe that? I chose to stay home and do other things. But it was unbelievable to watch that. I do suggest everybody go back to Fox's pinball stream and take a peek at that. It's really incredible. I've never used that method because it scares me. Like, because that shadow there can play very fast, but I'm definitely going to practice that the next time that I'm there. Yeah, it was, um... It is definitely a fast playing shadow, but once you find the shots, Aside from the no ball save, which is frightening, it felt pretty comfy to me. Alright. So I played Steve, got him 4-1. I think the one I lost was probably one of his picks. I don't remember. He picked pretty crazy games if I remember, and by crazy I mean very volatile, like Iron Man, Robo War. I can't remember what his old game was. Okay. That was a while ago. Yeah, that was... and he put up a good score on RoboWar. I can never do anything on that RoboWar, which I'll have a funny story about that when we get to Jared Arnott. Okay. Okay. So after him, I had to face Steven, Steven Prusa. We went 4-2. He is no joke. He took out Matthew Richardson, you know, the kid from Philly, wears glasses, you might recognize him on stream. He plays in Delaware a lot as well. But yeah, Steven beat him, so I got to play Steven, and we had some good games. I don't think, like, on Shadow, my billion and a half to his, like, 800 million, like, it was not a runaway by any means. Okay. I just had to stay focused and maybe that helped me a little bit because I knew I had to get big scores going into it because I knew what he was capable of. Sure, you amped yourself up. Yep, and so after I got past Steven, then I got to play Kaley Campbell and I went 4-1. The only, the game I lost with Earthshaker, I, I, I, for some reason, I switched from Whirlwind to Earthshaker because I think against Steven, I, I did nothing on Whirlwind and I got kind of nick bit. Um, but I should have just stuck with Whirlwind anyway, probably. Cause that, that, the Earthshaker, I thought it would be easy to play and it was not easy to play at all. I agree. I have a very hard time with Earthshaker. Sometimes, sometimes I feel like it's, It's kind of like Ghostbusters to me too where it's a really big ball game where it's nothing at all. Yeah. But for me, go on, go on. It was that match, Kaylee picked Star Trek which was kind of one of my worst fears because that Star Trek is so deadly. You've talked about that before. And I somehow just managed to keep stringing together shots long enough and I never started I'm a beginner to multiball, but I just played enough modes just hitting shots and actually shooting the warp ramp, which is scary, but actually, you know, if you're hitting it, it's, it gets you points. So, yes, it is very scary because if you miss, it's usually an outright outlane drain, right? Yeah, it often can be that or it's just so much chaos or it comes down and hits a sling and then out to the left outlane, something like that. But yes, it can be a very deadly shot. Do you usually go for that for your skill shot? Uh, sometimes, yeah. It depends. Sometimes I'll... It depends on what mode I'm in, too. It just, yeah, it depends. Okay. I was also... I was trying to light the locks and I just kept missing. I couldn't hit the correct green target. I have been there. I have been there. But I managed to survive that game and then that... I got to pick Shadow. And I just was, I went to town on Shadow and poor Kaylee was already calling the Uber to go to Lumberjack Johnny's while I was still playing. Yeah, nothing wrong with that. We should talk about that too, maybe at the end. I'll take a note about that. Yeah, we can talk about it now. There was tournaments at Lumberjack Johnny's which actually had almost like 30 games from District 82. Eric just casually brought like 1038 00 SOT I'm a fan of the Wopper Chopper. I know Patrick Van Enig did a lot of pinball repair for that. There's a whole bunch of people that were involved. They're all locals and special people to me in the District 82 community. So that was just really cool to have what the Wopper Chopper was. It was, I think it was two knockout tournaments maybe. And then it was a total of three tournaments. And then at the end, whoever had the most points won a belt. I did go up and like a championship wrestling belt. I did go up and play that Sunday and I want to say this about that Whopper Chopper is that the games there were set harder than I think they ever were at District 82. I think they're tough. The first night it went till 3 in the morning but also the first night we had Eric Stone there so I think that Eric Stone kind of made all the games play longer than they should have and so then they just went overboard and pulled every possible post they could find on the game. The game. Yes. Yes. It was unbelievable. So I came up there to play it. I'm like, man, these games are playing really rough. And I'm like, okay, no, I'm playing like the people that were playing was like a handful of locals, like 10 to 12 locals. And everybody else that Sunday was state and province champions, Rachel, mind you. So you know, I really got my butt whipped, which was okay. You know, I don't mind that I learned stuff from other players, because some of them are able to play it no problem with the adjustments on the game. and I don't mind. I like a mean game because it makes you have to play better, right? Yeah. So anyways, lest we digress. But yeah, thanks to everybody at Lumberjack Johnny's that helped out with that Whopper Chopper. It was awesome. And you got over there for a little bit, Raymond? Yeah, I stopped by I guess Wednesday night when we rolled in and just said hi to everybody. And then I think I stopped by maybe on Friday night or Saturday night after I was done with my pin golf and played some games there. And I should suggest everybody take a look at Lumberjack Johnny's on Facebook and on their website because he does run, Dave there runs a couple of different tournaments. He did like a James Bond head to head and I think he's going, that was streamed, and I think he's going to do something like a Foo Fighters launch party. He likes to do all sorts of different things and create different events there. So please, you know, go give him a like and go check him out. Yeah, highly recommend it. And all the games, all the games are insider connected. So I was able to get some rare Elvira achievements, Stranger Things achievements. Yeah, that was also super cool. Those first time I got a Beatles achievement was there. I'm looking at the Beatles there for a while. So awesome. Anyways, let's get back to let's get back to the main event here. Yeah, so after playing Kaylee, I went to... that was when I had to face my nemesis Jared August. And he picked the dreaded Robo War, which I was afraid of, because I could never do anything on that game. But... and he also picked Jurassic Park, which he always... he blows that game up out of the water almost every time. John Popadiuk, Bob Betor, Keith Elwin, Laser Los, Bowen Kerins, Lyman F. Sheats Jr.., orbit ramps, Automated Amusements, Python Anghelo, Joe Kaminkow, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. The pinball was 30 points. Oh no So you didn did you not even hit you must not have even gone up on top No I short plunged and hit a slingshot and then tried to catch it and it went down the right with the no gate and that was it the 30 point slingshot Oh, I'm so sorry. Yeah, so then I had my my ball two wasn't any better. I had a couple more flips. I only had like 40,000 and so now I'm on ball three and I'm like, oh my god, I'm gonna lose to 300,000 on Robo War and I almost did too. The ball went down the right out lane but it, you know, sometimes it'll save itself and it did. It saved itself and I was able to hit the ramp and start the multiball and everything was all good but it was scary for a minute there. It was, we both just couldn't do anything. David Nash seinen Computerlord Sarman tuğlay David David Van Es, Bit of a I know. And I had I think 10 million going to my last ball so I just needed to hit anything and so I did and I won but it was like what on earth happened like we both just did nothing on that game. That's interesting because that means that he had a hard time even getting a skill shot there. Yeah he did. Oh, that's that. And you did too, probably. That is very difficult. Yeah, that Jurassic Park was set up so tough with really sensitive slingshots. And so every time I hit a slingshot, it was just, it was like in the slings and usually out. So you basically won the game with 12 million or 14 million or something. Yeah. So that was what was weird is I was beating him on his picks, and then he was beating me on my picks. He put up like a billion and a half shadow and I did nothing. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. This is the point where I tune in. Oh, you did see this. So I did see this. This is the time at the moment in time that I tune in is at your ball three and I'm going to set up set up the scenario for you. It's girls night out. I'm at Chili's with three of my best gal pals in the area. And we, and I'm like, I'm sorry, but I have to like check my phone because I was trying to see, you know, how you were playing specifically, trying to watch things and I happened to pull up Twitch and I'm like, oh my God, it's ball three. And I saw in chat where you're at, like in your games, I'm like, he's gotta like do things here. So I'm here, the crazy lady actually screaming with my other, with my other gal pals next to me, like getting all excited, you know, about your game. So, and your win. So I'm not the spoiler but you can explain how you want it. I'm sorry if that was a spoiler but I was just so excited for you Raymond because what a way to come in and here you are. It was just insane to watch. I know, I know. It was really... You have to go back and watch it. Everyone's got to go back and watch that. It was so cool. Go on. Yeah, it was really scary but I knew I could do it because that game was set up very friendly where every drop target spotted a globe letter and the globe letters were in order so all I had to do was just hit enough drops and get it in that hole. Get it in that hole and you would get 50k and then I think the second time it would give you 100k. And so I knew on ball three all I got to do is spell globe twice and I win. And as soon as I plunged it and it went into the hole that spelled it once and I was like yes okay this is a good sign now I just got it if I can just clear those drops and get it in the hole and and survive and it was really scary and I did some some emergency tap passing and things and managed to get it done. Do you... that was amazing, absolutely amazing. I am so... I cannot tap pass to save my life. So I'm going to... maybe you and I will have to get together and we'll do a little clinic on how to tap pass because I just... that's a skill that's so important on the game, especially like Harlem. So that was amazing, Raymond, absolutely amazing. So you punched your ticket from that round. Yep, it was... I couldn't believe it. I was already... I didn't even think I would win more than a game or two against Jared, producer, editor director, art host, chief editor, automation, olu, andって certjam dejavujouks curatein Also subtitled with us in a english subtitle station. Oswasano das 101, I hit a sling. Oh, I remember now. He drained the same way I drained against Jared, which was I plunged to a flipper and then I was shooting at the yellow target right next to the cellar, because you need to hit that target to complete your compass. And I shot at that yellow target and it just went boom, straight right back down the middle. And Escher did the same exact drain on his ball one. I was just like, oh, I did that last round. And then after that, he never got the ball on a flipper on balls two or three. And I was able to actually start a quick multiball and I got a jackpot out of that. And then I started the real multiball and got a jackpot out of that. So I put up a score that he needed to beat, but I didn't put up that high of a score. Like knowing Escher, if he got into multiball, I'm pretty sure he would have blown right past it. Right. With no issue. That's unbelievable. Yeah, that was a crazy game to see. I couldn't believe that because he literally played the game for less than a minute. Yeah, and the other game that was ridiculous, if you want to watch the most fun, I think this was one of the most entertaining games to watch was the Iron Man match between me and Escher. Did you catch that one? Yes, I did. That game was so fast and brutal, we were just draining left and right and I think 10 million was the score to beat and Escher fell short by just a little bit. And I ended up winning. Yeah, it was that is a very hard playing Iron Man very fast. I did learn something about watching that and having discussions about that game afterwards is that to when you bring up your monger to get your monger to bring up your monger, you know, you can loop you want to hit the loops or you can hit up straight up the middle or whatever and collect and write your monger letters, right? I didn't realize that it's so much smarter that when your monger dude, or I don't even know what it is, the bash toy when he comes up, that instead of bashing it, that you can just loop, because that's still a work in progress to collect everything you need to start your multiball. I didn't know that. Well, so looping, it doesn't help you start multiball, but it gives you points. And the spinners on that were so juiced that every orbit was giving you two or three hundred thousand, and then when you hit the monger, you get the points again. So you're watching people... Okay. You're watching people shoot the orbits to get three or four hundred thousand, then shooting the monger and getting eight hundred, a million. And so just doing that, they'd go into multiball with like seven or eight million points, which was huge because unless you get the super in that multiball, it's actually not worth that many points. So it's kind of like you're hitting the orbits and then you're collecting it when you're hitting the bash toy. Right. Yep. Okay. So, because I did apply that method kind of when I played Women's World Championship. Uh, but we'll get to that. So anyways, it was just interesting because I play that game often enough and I was trying to like understand. Um, and Eric Thornton and I actually had a conversation about that, about that game. Um, and maybe I just misinterpreted everything you told me about it. But yeah, that was, that's awesome. I mean, to win by 10 million on that game. Did you, I bet you didn't even, did you even open a multiball? I bet you didn't. Did you? No, I think I probably played the Monger one, but I don't, I don't remember. I don't think I didn't get super jackpot though. Okay. So you survived two games against us, sure. Yeah. And, um, let's see, what were the other games we played? Well, he killed me on Shadow. I couldn't get anything going on Shadow again for some reason. So I'm glad that game was nice to me in the early rounds. Yes. Because later I lost it. I don't know what happened. But it didn't really matter because he was blowing it up. And actually, did he pick Shadow? He picked Shadow. Because I picked Iron Man. Why did you pick Iron Man? Because I thought he was going to pick Shadow. And I was right. So that kind of worked out. Because otherwise, if I picked Shadow, he was going to pick Jurassic Park. And then I would have, then I basically would have played him on two of his games. And so by not picking Shadow, I picked Iron Man. And then I knew I would either play Jurassic Park or Shadow, which I was kind of fine with either and I'd rather not do both against Escher was kind of my thinking. Okay, so the strategy there because there's obviously like a limited amount of games that were provided each round you can pick from, correct? Right. So I think I knew I knew that but I didn't don't think that maybe some of our listeners know that there was like X amount of games that you could only choose to play. So there's a lot of strategy that's involved that why you pick that so that's interesting. Okay. Yep. Can't remember what was the other game because we played Iron Man, Whirlwind, Shadow. He picked vector. That was it. Oh, that's right. Vector. Vector. That's right, Raymond. It was Vector. And I saw that you had a conversation with Eric prior to you going to play Vector. And I was wondering, I'm like, was Raymond trying to get pen tips on Vector? Or I'm sure you know how to play the game. Do you like the game? I think it's kind of a fun game, yeah, and I remember trying to figure it out for the longest time because the scoring always seemed like a mystery, but then we were slowly figuring out that every time you hit any of the green hype letters, it adds to this bonus. Yes. And the bonus just keeps growing, and then sometimes you get 2x or 3x it depending on if you start multiball or if it's on ball three, I think you always get it. I'm a little bit of a mystery there, but I knew that if I just hit the hype targets a bunch, like I'd be in good shape. And so that's kind of all I did. And then of course taking lock shots when necessary. But what really was the difference between me and Escher in that game was I was able to hit the hype targets in order to start multiball. And he kept missing and hitting the wrong letter. And so it resets them and he has to hit them in order again. And he just couldn't survive enough of them before that left out lane said it was time to go. Yes, I love hitting the high targets on that game so very much. H, Y, P, E. It's really, I like the shots. I think that game plays a little bit floaty. When it comes back down to your flipper, it's very easy to chop up. It has interesting outlings with the little, what do you call it, like a saucer magnet kick out thing. I don't know what to call that. Like it's a saucer that kicks the ball back into play through the gate. Yeah, it's a fun game. Yep. And I never play the game working towards multiball ever because I find there's like these six defenders. If you hit the right one in the right order to begin with, it helps drop the additional bank of them. But if you miss, you have to hit all these drops and then stick them off the ramp. And to me, that just seems like it's deadly and too much work. But vectors are really, I think it's a very fun game to play. Yeah, it was a lot of fun. And if you ever see one, play it because it's very rare. Yes, very much so. Yeah, so then the other game was actually Supersonic was Escher's pick because I picked Harlem Glowtrotters again knowing that he would pick Supersonic because he had been blowing that up all day and I didn't want to pick that if he was going to pick it. So I picked Harlem. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. I mean, I don't think he did too much wrong on it. I think he was just at the end of his chances, you know, because he was down 3-1 and it sucks that that's the time where the game decides to end you, but that's what happened. And so I ended up winning the whole thing with that Supersonic as my last game. Congratulations. I know that recently you actually played usher on that same supersonic and it was a opposite thing where you have like one you have over what did you have over like 1.8 million and he had 2.2 yeah yeah that was at a district 82 tournament yep yes recently so i'm sure that made this maybe that made that victory just a little bit sweeter All of these are the pinball games that I've been playing for the past year, but maybe. But huge congratulations to you. It takes, that was a very long day of pinball for you as well. And if I was you, I'd probably sleep through the practice too. Just if you are feeling good about the games. And I think you get to district 82 often enough that you are familiar enough with the games there. So that's so awesome. I'm just very, very happy for you. Nice big win. Thank you. Yeah, it was exciting. I got my Stern key so I can get a new in box Stern game. The Pro Oh, I'm not too surprised by that. I think that's amazing. I did have an opportunity to play the premium of Foo Fighters premium over the weekend and it was absolutely amazing. But that's, that's a conversation for another show. And you also got Whoppers and gigantic trophy. Yeah. John Popadiuk, Bob Betor, Keith Elwin, Laser Los, Bowen Kerins, Lyman F. Sheats Jr.., orbit ramps, Automated Amusements, Python Anghelo, Joe Kaminkow, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. Yeah, Pinmasters, I kind of breezed through the qualifying. Like, I didn't really have any issues in qualifying, which was surprised me because usually I'm scared to death of pinmasters. It helped being in a group where it was really fun and on stream with Roger Sharp. That was just a total relaxing, fun experience. The one time I don't go to District 82, he's there. The one time, Raymond. Oh, are you still? Have you never been able to meet Roger? No, I've not met Roger. Oh my goodness, Rachel. I know. I know. And he even signed the banner that says Stay Sharp at District 82. I just, it's okay. It's okay. The one thing, Raymond, but I made a deal with myself about this year and the things I'm going to play and that just wasn't one of them. I had to conserve my energy. But anyway, so you got to play around with him on stream. Yep. Awesome. Yeah. So they followed our group. And yeah, so everything was great for qualifying. So I got a bye. But then, unfortunately, the way this one worked was the first round was played at night, and so the bye didn't actually let me sleep in at all, and so I had to be there at 9am and I was just like a zombie and I don't know, I, it was a combination of not being awake and also just getting some pretty, pretty bad breaks at the wrong times and not being able to recover from them. Okay. And they streamed my group so you can watch my spectacular crumble Sunday morning, starting I was playing with my Harlem Globetrotters where I just, I don't know, every time it hit a slingshot it just decided to go down the left out lane and I had never done that at Nationals because that game was great to me at Nationals and then Pinmasters Finals it just was like okay, nope. So a little else that came in overnight and changed that game a little bit or something, right? Yeah, and I think I also missed maybe one of my drop target shots so I was off just a hair and that was kind of the difference. And so I took like an eight on that in pin golf, which is bad because you want like a one, two or three. Yeah. And but it was what was really crazy about that finals was Colin MacAlpine took a nine on Harlem. And Colin ended up advancing. So me and him were both in the doghouse. We needed a miracle. And by Miracle, I mean he actually played well and got the Walking Dead goal right away. I was still shaken up by Harlem, so I wasn't really thinking as clearly as I should have on Walking Dead. I really should have just went for the drops right away because normally on Walking Dead, I'm too scared to go for the drops. I like to hit Well Walker, prison, get things set up a little bit so I have, you know, things kind of get some points John Popadiuk, Bob Betor, Keith Elwin, Laser Los, Bowen Kerins, Larry K. Sheats Jr., I ended up getting a five on that, which was really annoying because I missed the goal on my fourth ball by like 12,000 points or something. Oh wow. That's tough. Really tough. Yeah. So after that I was even more upset. And so when I went to Supersonic, I was expecting, you know, Supersonic, no problem. I can get this in my sleep. And Supersonic, first two balls, I kid you not, did not touch a flipper. I got the skill shot and it just went slingshot, left out lane, both balls. And I'm like, okay, I guess I'm just not moving on this finals. And then it's just not in the cards today. And that's interesting because you had good games on both of those games the day before. Yeah, that's crazy. That's pinball. That's just how pinball works. Yeah, but Colin made it happen. He got a hole in one. That also was a bummer too, because when Colin got his hole in one on Super Sonic, I was right then mathematically eliminated. So that was kind of a bummer stepping up to a game, knowing even if I do the best I can, I'm out still. Wow. But I wish I would have got a hole in one because then I would have actually gotten some Whopper points. Instead, I tied for 15th instead of tied for 9th. And so I got no, it didn't make my card. So don't give up even if you're not going to advance because the difference really does matter for Whopper points. It sure does. Absolutely. And the winner of the IAP PIM Masters was Dalton. Yeah, Dalton crushed it. He was in our group and he had no problem. He just sailed right along. Yes, he sure did. He had a great day playing. It was pretty awesome to see how well he played. He did well during the Nationals as well. I think that's so cool because it was his first time at District 82. So also, when you're able to play somewhere where it's foreign soil to you, I think that speaks volumes about you and your capabilities, right? Right. Yeah. Yeah, I know. That was his first time there and he crushed it. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Anything else that you've been up to? No, I think that's about it. Okay, alright. And I just, should we just point out, and Dalton took 190 whoppers home for that. Woo! Which, again, that's unbelievable. Well, as far as me, I ran a ladies' flip and boot camp, you know, at Red Women's Pinball here in Wisconsin. I'm going to be talking about the first time I ran the event. I was in Wisconsin and that was very interesting. It was four hours. I try to make it like a smaller event in order to gain interest to get other women that I know into the hobby. That's the whole reason why I run Ladies of Wisconsin. It was interesting because I was able to bring in seven unrated first time players. I thought that was awesome. The way that we ran the event was it was a two hour, Cassidy Milonowski and I ran the event I should say. We asked them to make some of the pinball shows that they've done. For the first two hours, we educated on two different games and then provided some very basic straight forward pinball skills of things like don't flip your flippers at the same time, like understanding the different pinball terms such as draining, explaining how to nudge, what a dead bounce is, very simple straight forward things like that. And then after that, we had two hours of head to head. And that was actually a really fun tournament because in this kind of scenario, the Whoppers didn't really matter. It was nice to have a tournament, but we wanted to do something that was more friendly to the brand new player. So that was really cool. And I ended up having 20 players, actually 19 players there that day. And one of the unrated players who is, I think she is 14? She's 13 or 14 and she came in fourth. So that was really, really cool to see. And this was also, this also included some of the best players, women in the state of Wisconsin that also came out to play. So it was, that was a really, really fun day. I do want to plug, the other thing I do want to say about Ladies Flip Wisconsin is I am doing a tournament, a double tournament at District 82 on May 20th. And that will be a 13 round match play, followed by a four strike on classics only. So I'm really excited about that. Cassidy and I have built like our dream tournament day. We both love those style of tournament of tournaments. And it's nice to do back to back to women's tournaments all Monday. Oh, cool. Yeah, is that great? So I'm super excited about that. So here's a question I have for you before we get to Women's World Championship stuff. We'll get there friends. Here's my question. I like doing like unique trophies when at my at my lady at the District 82 event that I do there. And so I'll do like a last like I'll call it. So one of the trophies I do there is a best place, which is usually the last place person gets a best place trophy. I love doing that because I think it's encouraging, especially if there's new women or new women into pinball that can sign up for events like that, especially after a really long event. And then also I will do like a walk-off trophy and it's like the first person that gets a walk-off in their in their match. Oh, that's cool. Gets a trophy, yep. And then I'll do like a stuck ball trophy, which doesn't happen very often at District 82, but it does. And then they get a person gets a trophy for that. But have you come up, have you seen other unique trophies? Yeah, I mean it depends. Some tournaments, yeah, it just really depends. It's cool. It's always nice when you do get something that's kind of neat. The Money and the Whoppers will fade away, but the trophy kind of stays there. Yeah, absolutely. But if there's something that pops into your head about a unique trophy you've seen before, or if there's other listeners out there that have an idea of something that you've done in a tournament that you've been to that you've run, I'm really open to that. Because I think it's really fun. I'm already at 41 players, which is crazy, and the event is two months from today, from the day of recording. So, whoop, I'm excited about that. Okay so enough about the Wisconsin talk about Rachel Bristol the pinball player I had an opportunity to go play the 2023 Women World Pinball Championship Crazy This is just crazy I um it was my only goal for 2022 was to punch my ticket to qualify to play And I did that pretty cleanly coming in 14th women in open division. So I knew that going into it, that it was going to be a crazy day playing like literally, literally the very best women in the world at I'm going to go ahead and start with the pinball. There are a couple of women that deferred or weren't able to make it, but still, anybody that say that they're in the top 40 or top 50 in either division, they're definitely women that play a lot of pinball and they really enjoy themselves and they're great, great players. Yeah, I think there's even someone, isn't Karen from a European country? Yes, there were four countries that were represented and I want to say 14 states, but you might be able to find that information on the IFPA page as to like the details. It was so what happens there they take the top 16 women in the open division and the top 16 women in the women's division that had the most whoppers in those divisions at the end of 2022. And then we get seated and sorted together. And there are some women that qualified in both, but their higher seed in whichever division that's what qualified them into the tournament. That might be kind of confusing to see like where you're actually you know where the cut line actually is Correct because like the women are bumping like I think Jane for example I think she probably she qualified in both and so they took because she's number one with women's Whoppers She qualified as seed number two against Cassidy Milonowski who is seed number one in open And then like because Jane also qualified in open she just got eliminated from the open qualifying The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. This year, because it was the first year there was a women's state championship. Oh, I'm thinking of Carrie Wing. She played in both the women's worlds and the Kansas state champs back when they had the women's worlds was part of... The finals were the same place as the North American championships. So what was your thoughts on that? That this year, they actually, instead of combining it with, you know, like perhaps they could have done it at Districting 2,wed theres enough games there! They could've had the women것ne whatable at the same time no problem in that other room. but they decided to do it on a completely different weekend, a completely different venue, kind of have this own separate thing. what are your thoughts about that? okay couple of different things there. one I'm glad that they did not have it on the same weekend because there are women that 그런 세계 that Kayleigh Campbell did qualify to play in Nationals and that would have been difficult for her to have to play in manage both tournaments. Districated 2 definitely would have been big enough to host all of that probably at the same time. Eric would have no hair left probably after that. You know what was really funny? Eric kept telling me he was bored because the Sharps were taking care of all the tournament stuff and and he was literally standing around saying he was bored because he wasn't running around like he's used to. It was really funny. I probably had a bunch of games to clean anyway, but yeah, that's pretty funny. I didn't know that. Yeah, the chefs were involved heavily in that, which was fantastic. Maybe I took a little bit of pressure off of them too. With it not being at District 82, I was a little disappointed. I was hoping that they would still do a different weekend and put it there, because obviously it's my home pin palace, and it's an open to public place where anybody can go play, and anybody can come there and pre-play and practice all of them and do that. And the anterium, where they ended up holding it, is as well. And then they also, Interim, they also brought additional games in there and not just the usual Interim games that are there. Anyway, so I was like a mixture of different feelings. Glad it was a different weekend. Disappointed it wasn't at District 82, but I was fine with the Ultimate venue because it was really just two hours from me. And it was kind of cool doing the Women's World Championship in Chicago where, you know, obviously there's a lot of pinball related things there. It was incredible. I think off the top I should say, you know, thanks to IPA, to Hot Nudge that streamed it, and to, you know, the game techs, the people that brought, that provided the EMs and solid states and other games that were there, to all the sponsors that provided additional money to the purse prize and all the cool goodies. You know, it was really unbelievable. It was my very first experience playing a Women's World Championship. It was my first experience playing something of that level, that high competitive level. It was unbelievable, Raymond. We've talked about this before, where women's pinball, I've talked again about it's a whole different vibe this past weekend, again, had that. Women were very encouraging, cheering each other on, and let me tell you, the competition The game was fierce and it was hot and it was fun. So I don't even know where to begin with that. Well, I guess just you can go through the match play and if there's any, you can kind of just say round by round or ones that you remember. My very first round, because of seeding, we were all seeded based upon our initial seed into the tournament. So Cassidy being seated first and I was seated ended up being like, I don't know what it would have been, 14? Because of adjustments or whatever the case would be. But anyways, we ended up getting seated into the same round right away. So Cassidy and I have played all sorts of fun pinball and things together this year, which is pretty awesome. If people don't know Cassie Milonowski plays at District 82 and we're good friends too. So anyways, every round we're going to play eight. The total tournament is the tournament style is 24 games as the qualifying event. That's a lot of pinball. The way that they broke that up was in three games per round or session, as they called it. An old, a mid and a modern. So not an EM or a solid state, an old, a mid or modern. So some of that can be up for debate. attena Evelyn Amboni Heidi Raut Laura beautiful numero uno vous现 Where Ever Can You Find Me After Vidstyle Smart Vidstyle facilits The kamu The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. Pinball is really heating up. I don't know if you can feel that, Raymond. Well, I keep sliding down the rankings. Oh, we don't have to worry about that. I'm not worried about that. You're so awesome in my book. But so with pinball heating up, there's more women playing, more people playing generally, right? So it's like it's getting tougher and harder to get points, at least in my opinion. So we'll see if I make it again. So I want to do everything I could possibly do. I'm also a tournament player where I like I go I purchase my own food I sit in my vehicle during my breaks I like the quiet I like to be able to I don't drink you know I like to be able to just you know try to focus usually I listen to music but I chose not to for this event because it wasn't as loud in there as I thought it was going to be even though there's a bowling alley in there and I think maybe you just eventually tuned out some of that noise anyways and that was a concern of mine going to play there at such a public location and Interium did a really good job of I selecting track for the Bigjor nationally, Mobile I'll just go chill in my car in my corner, look at my phone. Like, it's kind of... Me too. Yeah. It's just you have to, you have to do it. Every player, we'll get to all the games too, but I want to just say every player manages their time differently. During the round while they're playing, some folks do not want to talk, other folks are chatty, other people want to dial into their music, other people want to stare at the game, other people, you know, we all do different things differently. For me, I usually watch all of the other games, especially if it's a new to me game. But as the day goes on, it becomes harder and like I don't have as much hyper focus to do that because I get tired. This was a day where it started out at practice was at eight in the morning. I got practice about 830 and the event started about practice ended about nine, the event started maybe 915 and I played until midnight. So it was a very, very long day. So as the day goes on, like I don't have the focus that I need to have as some of the big top players are. But again, those are all things maybe we'll get to that I know as a player, as I develop as a player. So let's talk about the games. Anyways, Cassidy and I were seated together in the very first round. I love playing pinball with her and I always learn so much from her. We played Super Straight, Space Invaders, and Jurassic Park. Super Straight was a new to me game. I did learn how to play it, learning some pin tips, but I took a fourth. You know, it was a little rough right off the gate, but like, whatever. We went to go play Space Invaders, and I was able to get the horseshoe a couple of times on that game. But I had just some unfortunate, just some unfortunate dreams. And then we went on to Jurassic Park. And why I want to talk specifically about this game, I think, as a premium or an LE, I think it was a premium, about this game is because I want to point out how hard these games were set up. There was no ball save on any of the modern games. It was very difficult. So it's either on Jurassic Park, like you do, if you miss a shot and you go, you know, you go out the wrong out lane, or if your out lane is not lit, you're, it's done. Or if you miss your shot, you go straight down the middle, you're going to get, you're going to have less than a million on your first ball. So I was very nervous playing that game. My first two balls were okay, but on my third ball, all I really had to do was get like 6 million points against Jurassic Park. And I houseballed it. Did he? I even get a flip and that terrified me. That terrified me. I'm like this is I can't tell you the last time I didn't get a single flip on a modern game. What do you mean you didn't get a flip? I got one flip. I plunged the ball, hit the ramp and I missed. And it went straight down the middle. Oh, and it rattled and went down. It hit the side loop and then came to the right out lane area and then died? No, on Jurassic Park, I missed the skill shot and it came straight down the middle. Oh, man. So I did flip it once. So I guess because you have to flip it in order of the way that I plunged it. But whatever. It was one flip, one flip game. To me, it's kind of like a house ball. So I guess I flipped it because of the way that I plunged it. That's a good point, Raymond. But still, it was very frustrating because it was like I could not get control to save my life, you know. And that's very, very frustrating if you miss something. So I'm like, whatever. We're just going to shake it off. We took two fourths and a third. That's not a good first round. But whatever. Here we are. The World Women's World Championship. Let's go. So we move on to the next game, which I actually like this game and played it at Expo a couple years ago and it's called Fun Fest. It's a random luck box, Raymond. You told me that we bumped into each other the night before and you told me, Rachel, that game is a luck box. And you did give me an idea of how to play the game, but it was just, I don't know. I had a very hard time. Unfortunately, the how you play the game is you hope that you drain at the right time And I'm like, well, that really stunk. And at this point, they put the rig on our own. I was playing with Emily Kassen, Esther, I don't know how to pronounce her last name, Esther Anraheim, maybe, and Miriam, I'm going to say Nadler. And it was a fun, fun group to play with. So we moved to Gorgar. Now, the only time I've ever played Gorgar, I think, is at Interium. The two other times I've been there to play. So that game, if you're not familiar with it, it has a heartbeat, this bum bum, bum bum, bum bum. So it kind of makes you like, it's like as a player, it's like, wow, it's a lot going on trying to make me like psych me out, you know. But I had a really good game. This is the only first place that I took the whole morning was on Gorgar. And the way that I played that, that I was able to complete my Gorgar letters and I was also able to go back up on top and collect all the inlane and get my multiplier. And that was it. That was enough to take the game because I think everybody's ball or everybody's Brandon Thereg provided valuable added mediaession, Fake & Pub. '90 gazeboow, pجahays adventures taraf I'm a fan of Star Child, the star multiball that's up there. And that's the way that I like to play the game. I can get a super great, start another song, add a ball, all the things. I love that game. Yeah. I took the second. Great. Round two, going much better. Well, round three and round four were not so hot. Round four, or round three, we played Mata Hari, and I got to play my vocal friend that also qualified, Becky Myers. We played Mata Hari. Now this game, I want to talk again about the tilts that are the tilts that were set up on these games. Becky, who is not a person who ever tilts a game, and I've played hundreds of games with her, I've never seen her tilt a game. She tilted Mata Hari. Oh, what? And I thought, I couldn't believe it. And she and she and I thought she hardly touched the game, right? So I played my ball. Guess what? At my first ball, I had all, I went in the saucer four or five times at all the things. And guess what? I tilted. And after that, the ball two and ball three, because I lost all my bonus, that's where all my points were, on ball two and ball three, I just, I had to play, you know, like I couldn't even touch the game. And so that just really kind of screwed me up. I started to realize that the games I had played already that morning were a lot tighter than some of the games I would normally play. And that was hard because I am as a player, as you probably know, Raymond, I'm a physical player and I like to nudge, like to nudge and push and shove the game around. That's part really bigger tool that I use in my tool belt than other things. So we moved to Firepower, which I've only played a handful of times before, and I just cannot get the ball on the flipper. I was able to, yeah, it was not good. I was able to do a little bit. I took a third, and then we moved to Iron Maiden. How were the games picked? Was it random or did you always play one of each era? We played an old, and then a mid, and then a mod. Okay. In that order. And so it was a preset bank of games that we played. So we moved to Iron Maiden, which was a premium. And I think folks know, you know, that I have a pro at home and I do love the game, but I don't ever really play it on location because I don't ever, when I'm at District 82, I never played that one there. And so I actually have to play it in round because I don't want to overthink it because I think there's like the stigma of like, when you own a game, you don't always play so well on it. I don't know. So I've tried to avoid that and I'm thinking, okay, I love Iron Maiden, And let's go play this. It's a premium. It's gorgeous. And I go up there and I took a fourth, but I have to tell you, the winner won the game with 10 million points. What? Oh my goodness. Nobody just, you couldn't survive more than like one or two flips? Well, I even, I know everybody just had a horrible games and I want to say one person opened their Icarus, but it was It's just like they did nothing with it. There's no ball save on it. Again, it was just such a terrible game. So at this point, at this point, I'm like, okay, that was not so hot. We're going to move to, we're just going to, you know, roll out to one more round. We're going to go to session four. We're going to play three more games and we get to take our break. Great. Let's just like get through this. I died so hard on hard and globe trotters. I scissored, put it between the slippers. I had done that twice earlier and practiced on that game. I just could not do anything. That was set up differently where it did not collect the globe letters in order. It was randomized or a randomizer. So that's all. I thought that was a lot harder to play it that way. I just couldn't do anything. We go to World Cup soccer. Man, I think I had 30 million points. And here I keep thinking every game's a new game, every game's a new game. We're not spiraling, we're just having a tough time. I think I tilted out on one of my balls, in fact, on World Cup. I'm like, this just isn't fun. This is the last game. I skipped it. I played Dolly Parton in there, but I played Dolly Parton three times that day. I did okay on Dolly, and we'll come back to that in a second. So anyways, here I am at the half, and I'm thinking, gosh, this has been not such a good morning. I never look at the standings when I play, and I know that I've taken a lot of fourths, a lot, and this just can't be good. I'm going to have some lunch and I figure, man, I look at this, I get, I'm walking down the steps. I look at the standings. I realized that I'm dead last. I'm an absolute dead last. And there's 32 women. I'm in 32nd place. And at that point, I was, my mental game was doing very well up until that point because I'm just like, it's another game. Who cares? Let's be happy to be here. So I get outside, go in my vehicle. I shut the door and I screamed. I was like, I'm going to be dead last. I'm going to be dead last. I'm going to be dead last. I'm going to be dead last. I screamed. Aww. That's, you know, that's a healthy... I screamed! That's better than being someone who's physical, you know, in front of everybody, hanging on glass and yelling and staring. No, wait. I screamed and yelled so hard and got all my frustration out. And I've done that before at District 82 when I had three house balls of magic on the side and I screamed and it felt good. And every now and again, I feel like I'm just like, the frustration is there. I'm like, what the hell is going on? I'm on! Why can't I make this stuff work? You know, I just screamed it out and then I cried. And I had no shame in saying that. I let the tears come out because for me, like frustration, there's, crying is part of the frustration too. It's like I cry about everything. Happy, mad, glad, sad, whatever. And so I just let it out. That all, all the frustration of the morning. And then I did a couple of things. I ate some lunch, I had some water. I did message you and you gave me some good encouragement. And he reminded me that I still had half the tournament to play. Yeah. Which was very, very helpful because I thought it'd be funny if we actually podcasted about Raymond winning and about me completely losing. So I think it's still be, you know, I'm still going to savor the day either way. And I appreciated your encouragement. And I messaged my friend Chris Matt, who's a Wisconsin player. He lives in my county here. And he gave me some good words of encouragement. And then I videoed with my friend Mike and we had a good conversation. He pumped me up. I'm also just going to take a deep breath, try to regroup. What went wrong this morning? And I figured out part of it was, A, I cannot nudge these games the way that I want to. Two, I can't rely on that. Two, that I need to let the ball come to me. That was when I went back into the building thinking, let the ball come to me, meaning I'm going to I'm not going to be over eager to flip, don't panic flip, and be willing just to let it dead bounce. And work with the game, instead of feeling like I was working against every single game. So then I went inside, I changed my outfit completely, and people think that's funny, but I feel like, you know, it's the second half, why can't I just change outfits, that's just who I am. I feel fresh, I feel like, let's start over. So I put on my District 82 t-shirt, which I, it's a new one that I love, and I played I'm a pinball player. Let's just figure it out. Let's figure it out and just take it one game at a time. One game at a time. So I went in and had the best afternoon. Really. Yeah. I'm like, okay. Okay, then I moved on and we played Adam's Family. Now, I didn't get a chance to preplay this game besides the 30 seconds that I was permitted to before that specific game. Sorry, my cat is biting me right now. Rigby's being very mean to me. Oh, Rigby! She's being so mean while I'm trying to record. Oh no! She lost my attention. She missed me over the weekend, everybody. So, anyways, sorry, a little distraction there. So I played Addams Family and I didn't get a chance to pre-play it so I'd like to let you know the skill shot is on there because every Addams seems to be like a little bit different right? Sometimes it's like a hard way to pull and sometimes it's just like it's a much longer plunge. So I was able to find it on my second ball and on my third ball I was able to like I opened both multiballs on that and I was able to take a first place. NICH limberman, Christina Berger, Dan Levi, Colleen Campbell, When you get a skill shot on Godzilla, you generally get a ball save, right? Right. On this Godzilla, the ball save, you do not get a ball save with your skill shot. I found out afterwards there's only one skill shot that you got the ball save. And that was really hard playing that, and that was a huge equalizer to be able to plunge that ball out and get it on a flipper. So I actually alternated and I went for the skill shot that's behind the floating flipper, And then just try, you know, I just did that instead because it's usually I put it right down to the left flipper instead of short plunging it. And so I was successful. And I, I think I even locked a ball for Godzilla multiball, but I didn't even have to play it because I took the game. I had enough points And again that was it wasn even a huge score It was only like I want to say it was like 82 million or something It was nothing on Godzilla But considering the way the game was playing I was really happy with taking that as a first Well I think the reason they had the game get eed on Car battery coverage notter he ae henna whyee errado and shaw we will martere the first t now win And then I played the tiebreaker and I got done at midnight. So it was a very long day. And so it makes sense why the games were set up so hard. But I think it's important for people to understand that this is no joke, that this was really a world championship. And that is absolutely how the games need to be set up. And I think it's just interesting to note that. Because I actually, once I played that, it was like, wow, that was really rough. And once I realized other players were telling me about that, I'm like, okay, then you have to kind of alternate your plan a little bit of action. What are we going to do to try to make sure we don't lose the ball right away? Because that happened to most of the people in that round. So that was round five. We go to round six and the games here were Dolly Parton, Trident and Mandalorian. So I go play Dolly Parton for the third time that day. Wow. I took a second and by now I'm starting to feel very comfortable with an alternate method of scoring points. We move on to Trident. I'm feeling very confident now. So I took a third, a first, a first, a second. I'm feeling really good. I'm like, okay, we're getting some points rolling here. We're just going to keep on this happy bus, keep playing each game as its own brand new thing. Don't worry about the past. So I move on to Trident. We had a small problem with Trident where it awarded me 500 points right out the gate, and it should not have done that. I think it was some kind of malfunction like with a spinner or rough-liver bonus or something else that was going on there, but I didn't even plunge the ball. I just had flipped it once or twice with the flippers. The game, it didn't repeat the error, but sometimes when there's issues like that, you have to have a TD come over. That can really screw me up. Like it like throws me out of my zen or throws me off the game and it takes me a little bit to refocus. So once we got it sorted out we gave you the 500 points as like a beneficial what do you call it beneficial malfunction then I went on to play it and let me tell you I went on to have the very best trident game I think I've ever had. I want to say it was like a 350 000 point game. I think that was that was really good for me. I just really got into the zone and that game was so much fun. John Popadiuk, Bob Betor, Knapp Arcade, hetic.it I have history. Oh. And that's all I can say at this point. I have some bad Mandalorian history too, if that's okay. We'll talk about the Mandalorian on another podcast. But the Mandalorian and I, we spent some time together and I was able to, I just decided not to even go for my mode because again, there was no ball saved, the game was set steep and I'm just figuring I'm going to do whatever I can to get any kind of points. And just getting into a multiball, that should hopefully be enough if I happen to get jetpack Cytoendenatenbular.com The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. Yes, yes. So, which is, which definitely, when we get to the end, that plays a part of it. So anyways, round seven, we move to Target Alpha, which is, as it's, it's Alpha Target, what I call the all weekend, where it's a game that's got 1,000,007 different job targets. And the goal is to hit the job targets because each job target also adds to your bonus. And I had, and it's a very hard skill shot. I tried every single one. The Balls, Skill Shot It, and it's where you have to have it just soft enough, the softest punch just to go up all the way up over into these tiny little inlanes that are there and I couldn't get it. I tried very, very hard and I took a third. Now that was the hardest, that was the worst game that I had played so far in the afternoon, worst meaning like, you know, I didn't get a first or a second, but I thought whatever. I still had a good score on it. It was nice to play it, but Santa played it. Yeah, thank God I didn't have to play Dolly again. So then we move on to a game that I'm familiar with a little bit, Black Knight. The original, the OG Black Knight. Now, with this game, I know how to play it, you just stick the ball in the lock. Great. And that's all I really needed to know. There's not one local to me, so I didn't have any time to really pre-play it, but I'm like, I played it, it's familiar enough, whatever. But I had heard from other players, and there was a post on the game that it was set to like, the lock was set to a hard setting. So the lock wasn't lit when you plunge, so what you needed to do is you had to light it however way in order to light your lock and then start your multiball and all that junk. And I'm like, I don't even know how to do that. And this is late in the day, and I don't want to spend any energy figuring out how to do that. I will observe other players, and I will just go up and do the best that I can. So I go up and I plunge, and I'm just shooting around up on top. I just keep thinking we're going to stick the ball back up on top, put it upstairs. I was like, I'm gonna shoot it upstairs, Rachel. And I shot down all the drop down targets or all the, yeah, all the drop drops that were up there, I think three times. And they have these like these blue arrows lit. I'm like, I'm just shooting up there. You know, like, I don't know what I'm doing, Raymond, but I think, okay, I'm doing points and everybody else is struggling. Because I saw that they're trying to, there's like a little loop on the bottom playfield. Is that the way to put it? Like a little, a little loop there. A little horseshoe. A little horseshoe. You have to hit that. Yeah, it's more like a loop. You're right. Ch vyajayuan mejaPCRA be mrzyajajajajajajajajaja I'm like, this is a great method because who knows? But what I did discover on this game, it has the Magna Saves. And I'm familiar with Magna Save games like Jungle Lord and Pharaoh where you hit the button and you can just pulse it. It goes, bzzzt, and goes, bzzzt, with the ball. I'm gesturing with my hands and nobody can see that. But it takes the ball and just kind of whips the ball. Whereas on this game, on Black Knight, you press the button and it actually trapped and held the ball and then it dropped it into your in lane. And so I was like the first time I used that button, I was like, what is going on? Why is this? Why can't I pulse this or get the ball to, you know, to do the thing that I could do on Farrell? So that was a cool thing to learn. But but with just trying to do my best on that game, I took the first. I couldn't believe that. But it was, again, a thing where you have to alternate your your, you know, normal operating procedure in order to figure out how to play the game. So that was good. We went to Indy 500. Now, Indy 500 is a very difficult game for me. This one, I feel like the left orbit, to play that game, you want to hit the left orbit to light your lock, and then it comes around, and with your upper right flipper, you shoot it into the lock shot. And that is such a great, really rewarding feeling when you hit that, because it can be, it's a very fast, it's a fast playing game, it's Indy 500, right? Yep. And I had a very hard time, I don't know if the foot points were higher or lower set or whatever, but I had a hard time finding the loop. I took, I didn't even start my multiball. I believe one of the players started hers twice in our group. It was just, it was very, very rough. And I took a fourth, but I wasn't upset because you know what, Raymond, that was the only fourth we had taken so far. So who cares? That was a good, a good round. So going into the final round, session eight, thank goodness. I'm wondering on Indy 500 if there was a strategy adjustment since if the scores were low enough and only one person got multiball, maybe you could have gone for a second or third ignoring the left orbit and just shooting the center or shooting the right ramp or shooting the right orbit. Yeah, I'm trying something else there. Maybe I'll do that in the future if I can't find that shot and I should have adjusted, but I also think I was starting to get kind of tired. We're going to be playing a game called Top Score, which is also there's a game I guess called 300 that's like it. And I think I played 300 at Lizard's World before. But Top Score is a really cool game where I went over, I never did a play it, didn't preplay it. I had notes on it, but I went over to my friend Cassidy. I went over and asked her, said, how the heck do I play top score? And so she gave me the details where, where you're, when you're collecting bonus on the game, on the, on the back glass, it shoots out these red bonus balls, like in the back glass. It looks like kind of like a saxophone on the back glass that shoots these out. You can collect, I think, up to 10 bonus balls. And then, and then if you have to release those bonus balls to get any more bonus accrued, and there's a saucer, there's two saucers in the upper left-hand corner. The left one will collect your bonus for you and releases all the bonus balls so that you can put more balls up there. I don't know how a better way to explain that. It's basically just a fancy way to show how much bonus you have. Yeah, but it's cool. I'm like, this is a neat fancy game. But I was able to really dial into those shots, able to hit the spinner on that game, put it back up on top. I just felt like I really became one with that game and I had I think 50 58,000 on that game which I thought was a pretty darn good score um I really wish I would have had an opportunity to play it again so I could try to roll it because I felt like that confident and good about that game so after taking first I want to mention the other women that were in my group here Anna Wolfe, Debra Tallman, and Rachel Karlick the other Rachel basically all three of us because the way that we're now paired and seated together I'm going to move on basically to finals or towards a tiebreaker. And I know that they were talking about this and I'm like, I don't really, you know, I'm just so happy that I'm playing better. We'll just see what happens, you know? And so after top score, great. That felt amazing. So we go to play Adam's Family. We're going to go play Adam's Family again. And here we have the game Do Something Weird Again, where we all played during our practice. Well, during my practice ball, I shot the ball into the swamp and it kicks out the grave. Was it the graveyard? Is that what it kicks out of? The ball got stuck in there and then fell right back in. And it happened twice and so the game warned me and stuff. I'm like, this is weird. And then the ball finally kicked itself out. So we tried to repeat the same issue prior to us playing and we didn't. The next time it kicked out of that scoop, no problem. Fine. No worries. So we get the game set. I'm a professional football player. I go out and flip my flippers a couple times. The game awards me like 500,000 points or something. Same thing that happened on Chident. Oh no. So because of both of these issues that happened, after confronting the TDs, we ended up pitching the game and we moved to Space Shuttle, which I was a little disappointed because I really never played a Space Shuttle until that day. What a fun game. It was a fun game. I mean, it seems very simple and easy, but I thought it was a real fun game because you have to know where to take your shot. And that's cool where you go up the middle. And I actually stole somebody's multiball, which actually helped me to get a second place on that game. So that was really fun. That I really liked enjoying hitting the spinner, going back up on top and collecting my lanes. That was the way that I was trying to play the game, but I accidentally opened, grabbed somebody else's multiball. So that was neat. You know, I didn't realize it was lit, you know. So I took a second. I'm like, okay, that was awesome. So we finally moved to what I think is the final game, the 24th game. Thank goodness of this really long day. And it's on Iron Man. And I'm like, okay, I was thinking about Eric Thorne, thinking about this is one of the games I played at D82 earlier in the week, practicing this game a little bit. And I'm like, this game can be super mean. I went up and played this one. Man, I think this was the nicest Iron Man I've ever played. Wow. So in comparison to the one at D82, I really thought this one was really nice in terms of that, I mean, you can nudge the game, which was great, and you should be able to nudge that game because it's a mean, it is, it's just a mean playing game to begin with, I think. I was able to, I was able to, for the first time, I completed, I don't even know what it's called, Raymond, is that funny? But my bogey, but I completed all my ramps. I completed all my ramps and then I started my multiball. So that was really neat. I knew that I was going into it with, you know, more lucrative, or I knew that I was going into it having done all the things I could do prior. Does that make sense? Mm-hmm. Is it called a bogey? Is it a bogey? Is that what it is when you complete the ramps? That's the ramp, yeah, ramp mode. The ramp mode or whatever it is, so, or once you light it or whatever, I should say. So, yeah, that was really cool. And I'm like, I won the game. And I'm like, holy cow, this is awesome. I had a really awesome second half. So just to give you the stats there, the first half I had seven fourth places of one first, okay? And in the second half I had seven first places and one last. Isn't that funny? Wow. So I just, I played completely opposite from one half to the other. Yeah, but it all averaged out. It all averaged out. It all averaged out. So that brought me all the way up to 16th, but I have no idea. I'm just like, this is great. There's still games playing. We were waiting for people to do things. And I saw, you know, that Jane made it in. You know, I saw that. I'm like, okay, this game must be done. I'm like, I've gone on stream doing commentary. I'm like, we're just relaxing. Who cares? I made it. You know, I made it this far. You know, whatever it is, it is. And so then I find out that I was in a, that four of us had tied in 16th place. I had to play one more game. Wow. Were all four of those the same people that were in your group in round eight? No, it was different. It was Ashley Weber, Holly Koskinen, myself, and Rachel Karlik. She also punched her ticket for my same group. So that was really cool. It was just so much fun. I couldn't believe I had to go play a 25th game. I had to laugh a little bit about that. The way that the game was chosen was very interesting and unique. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. diamon Talman, junrie night What are the odds that somebody else is actually going to vote on that? Because everybody knew that it's going to likely be Jurassic Park because all these women are great modern players too. So that was what the choice was. One other person voted for Space Invaders, but the other two voted for Jurassic Park. So we went to go play that. Now I just have to laugh because I was watching a little bit of the hot nudge stream tonight before we recorded and to see the energy that we had. But all of us ladies, we all walked over there, all kind of pumped up. We had like a little bit of a dance party and just trying to like burn off all this nervous energy because one of us, only one of us would do the dance. So, in my Jurassic Park, it was, let's see if I can recall it, my first ball, I think that, I think I did my T-Rex multiball my first ball maybe and it wasn't anything that, maybe it was my second ball and it was not good. I didn't bring anything into it. I couldn't get anything going and I wasn't really trying to go for my T-Rex but because I had lit it and it was going, We just got the ball to the right flipper and we just started it. Because you don't want to waste those points if they're there, right? You don't want to take advantage of it. Right. So my third ball was better. I think I got, pretty sure I got the skill shot on that and then I focused on starting my, I was trying to focus the whole time on starting my Raptor. And so I ended up, I think I ended up getting a ball in there, I hit the shot two or three I was very focused on hitting it and for whatever reason or however it happened, the ball hit the right sling and then went directly like power left out lane. And I had a laugh. And I had a laugh when I drained because I needed, I mean, Holly, I think she won the game with what, 48 million? And I only had like 22, 23, but I figured if I could get a multiball going or whatever, you know, I'm going to do something here. I had to laugh really hard that I drained that way because it's a rough because there's nothing you can do when the ball hits the sling and slams into the out lane, right? It's kind of a funny, funny, funny way to fail. It was amazing. But anyways, Holly punched her ticket and proceeded to go to the top 16 and I was super excited for her. She's a former whipped champion. She's a player from Columbus, Ohio and a friend of mine. She's nice. Yeah, I was watching and Ashley Weaver needed like only six million on ball three. And just couldn't find a shot. Right, and she, I was going to say, I think she even had her chaos lit, and she just couldn't find her shot, right? I was trying not to pay too much attention, but either way, yes. Well, on ball two, yeah, so that was an interesting thing, because on ball two she started control room mode, and instead of shooting the center spinner to just get some points out of the control room, she tried to shoot the chaos shot to start multiball to stack it, which is what you normally want to do. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi. I know when she drained that it was she was playing it very much in control trying to take her shot that's how she drained and that's very frustrating but Ashley it was my first time meeting her at Women's World Championship and she is definitely becoming a fast friend what an awesome player to watch she was so much fun I'm gonna say those three other ladies that we did the tiebreaker with were so much fun because we had a laugh and just enjoyed ourselves and it was so much fun even though it was stressful and And everybody wanted to punch your ticket. It was still a good time and I just loved that. And quite frankly, Raymond, I was not upset, not mad, not sad or angry or anything that I didn't make it. I was like maybe like 5% of me might have been like a tiny bit disappointed, but I was just so, so, so proud of myself. Yeah, that's awesome that you were able to come back all the way. I actually, I looked at your graph on Match Play and you can see it's like a perfect, like a V. It's like V and then whoo. Is it really? I didn't even look at that. I'm going to have to take a peek at that. But yeah, it was really, it was incredible. I, again, oh yeah, looking at my graph right now, that's pretty cool. Neat, that's so neat. That's so neat. Yeah, I'm just really proud of myself because, again, you know, it's my first time playing anything that big competitive-wise, and the women were unbelievable that were there playing, fierce competitors, the games were set unbelievably difficult, which is the way they should be. It was an overall unbelievable experience. I made all my goals. I wanted to get a couple wins that day. I've been in a slump this year in 2023 in terms of playing. So it felt really good to be able to do that and to apply some other skills. All of those things. So, yay me! Awesome job, Rachel. You held your own at the World Champs. I think that's fantastic. Thanks, Raymond. Thank you, Raymond. I sure did. And I think that it should... I want everybody to know too, like, pinball can be very frustrating, But you just have to find a way to dig within yourself. You need to, like you said, set it on fire, right? So that's what I try to do. So after all of my playing on the qualifying day, 16 women punched their ticket and advanced to finals on Sunday. And the winner, the two time World Women's World Championship winner is Carrie Wing. Congratulations to Carrie. Yeah, very exciting. The top three women were, the top four women were Carrie Wing, Leslie Ruckman, Sunshine Bond, and Kelly Campbell. Congratulations to everyone. And that's it. And you're probably going to be heading to TPF pretty soon, or you might be there by the time this gets released, but I wish you a lot of luck on your travels there. Thanks, Rachel. Yeah, this is, it's kind of funny. This, the last time Carrie won Worlds, I also won the North American Championships. So it's like the stars aligned again, where we both won in the same year. Kari Berger-剛剛, I guess you were saying the year that's your best見CPATER? Kari Berger- Oh, that's absolutely amazing. I didn't know that. So very, very fancy. John Popadiuk Yeah. And the reason I bring that up is because Kari is the first two-time women's world champion. Right? Kari Berger- Correct. John Popadiuk Yeah. Kari Berger- So that's... Kari Berger- That's pretty amazing. She's incredible to watch. I really love her headphones. And I keep thinking about changing my game now to maybe wearing some gloves, trying that for a little bit. And then also try another way to kind of jam out the other stuff. Sometimes I listen to music, but not in headphones like hers. So... You guys did a great job of just staying focused and attacking the game. Totally focused. Every single game. Well, congrats. Congrats. And that's it. Happy flipping. All right. Thank you, Rachel. All right. Take care. Have a good one. It's Raymond and Rachel, Rachel and Raymond, tournament pinball is what they really know. It's Rachel and Raymond, Raymond and Rachel, giving all of the info for the travels we go. It's like great college at the sharing the knowledge so if you don't listen you won't know. It's the Ray Ray Show.
