my name is Glenn Valgardson welcome to Pile O Bones Brewing Company the story of Pile O Bones, I guess, starts with a bunch of really passionate home brewers in Regina, Saskatchewan way back when the liquor laws here were very prohibitive if you wanted to have any kind of IPA or any kind of great lager beer you had to brew it yourself we started as a hobby business we built our first brewery in the basement of a bar in downtown Regina the problem was is our beers were really good and we took off and we had to grow so fast so that's always a continual state of growth for us the name of Pile O Bones a little bit of local history way back in the day when John Palliser was making his expedition across the Prairies and charting out Canada he met the indigenous folks here and he misheard what they were calling the place he heard it as Wascana that loosely translated uh means the area in which the bones are piled as a meeting settlement it was referred to as Pile O Bones uh and still is by a lot of the mate in the province so in honor of that we named our brewery it our branding is fairly minimalistic we're very Saskatchewan and you know we're from the Prairies our cans reflect that all of our beers use Saskatchewan malt majority Saskatchewan hops we only have Saskatchewan local beer here another great beer we do is the Community Logger all of the proceeds not profits all the proceeds every single dollar goes to our local food bank we're about 300,000 meals raised well we're currently standing in the newest expansion of the Pile O Bones Brewing facility production area the brewing equipment the tanks they all come out of Victoria British Columbia our little shining star would be the centrifuge I'm very proud that we have this Pinball and craft beer are they're hand in hand right you know what do you do when you want to go to a craft brewery for me there better be a pinball machine there cuz you need to do something while you're in there right we started because another brewery had one machine no one knew each other it brought us together as a community we uh started playing tournaments in Saskatoon cuz there's a scene here eventually we got kind of tired with the driving and we each shipped in a machine and we searched for a location and then we kind of grew it from there Pile O Bones is a great place for our pinball tournaments and our leagues really just goes hand in hand with what we're trying to build with Queen City Pinball we're pretty small city so we don't have a ton of players to draw our scene from so we're really punching above our weight I think to to get the people we're getting out uh generally we get a really good turnout we probably get about mid 20s but we've had up to mid 30s and stuff I come as often as I can for the the league nights and then we also have a women's league that we've started our Flippin Queens pinball league we call it we hold tournaments once a week and then we have finals here at Pile O Bones today is going to be our first monthly tournament of 2024 so we have a group member from Saskatoon which is 2 hours north of here coming down to stream it for us we have 41 people which I think is our biggest tournament turnout this location is the Stern Army location and thanks to two of our operators that put machines in here we've been fortunate to have most of the recent Stern releases I met some of the Stern fellas last year down in Nashville at the Craft Brewers Conference I said yeah I have a little brewery in Canada and they said what brewery I said Pile O Bones Brewing Company and they said no kidding they showed me their promotional sheet my bar was on it they were showing everyone this room cuz we had such a good representation of pinballs it's awesome to be a part of the Stern Army for what we're trying to do locally Stern Army is trying to do more broadly and that's grow the game grow the scene and stuff like that Insider Connected is a great feature I'm excited to see where it goes and I see guys here that that don't even play in the league but they come to sign in and try to get all the achievements we have the leaderboard setup too so there's a little bit of additional competition outside of your traditional Grand Champion high scores we found that a lot of people are tracking their scores and actually talking about them and conversations at the tables are you know I put up this score let me bring it up on my Insider Connected the app what's our vibe at Pile O Bones everybody parents come pinball players come people want craft beer come it's truly all inclusive it's a really community oriented place they're really awesome at supporting local and supporting good causes in the community it's like family here you know you always run into somebody you know hanging out enjoying a craft beer playing some games is a really good social atmosphere it has the most machines I would say in Regina the best lineup I appreciate everyone who does come here uh and the doors are
