TL;DR

Cary Hardy upgrades his pinball repair toolbox with organized, categorized tools for playfield work.

Summary

Cary Hardy showcases his organized toolbox upgrade for pinball machine work, transitioning from a disorganized cart system to a well-organized drawer with categorized tools. He demonstrates essential tools for playfield disassembly/assembly including nut drivers, screwdrivers, pliers, a rechargeable work light, extended sockets, and specialty pinball tools, emphasizing that while the full kit is somewhat overkill, it represents a significant quality-of-life improvement for his upcoming work on machines like Earthshaker.

Key Claims

  • Billy Tools nut driver set feels similar to Wera brand despite being cheaper

high confidence · Direct comparison made while showing tools; speaker uses Wera at work for reference

  • A handheld drill with socket attachments significantly speeds up repeated screwing/unscrewing tasks on playfields

high confidence · Speaker demonstrates and explains the tool's utility for reducing wrist fatigue

  • An 11-in-1 multi-tool can replace a significant portion of individual screwdrivers and sockets

high confidence · Speaker acknowledges this tool could majorly reduce the overall toolkit while maintaining functionality

  • Harbor Freight tools (basic multi-tools) cost approximately $2 and function adequately for pinball work

high confidence · Speaker references years of use in his toolbox and current availability

  • Most of the tools shown are technically overkill for basic playfield disassembly

high confidence · Speaker explicitly states 'This is overkill' and acknowledges unnecessary tool quantity

What's up guys? I'm in the garage because we're getting closer to starting on this bad boy right here. But I wanted to show you what I have been dealing with over the years and what I'm going to be dealing with going forward when it comes to my tools. Let me drag this bad boy out here into the sunlight so you can see. This is the mess. I mean you got your allens and everything, your screwdrivers but it's been a convoluted just slot pile like I'm digging through a damn toy box to find stuff that I need on this damn cart a lot of the times and if it's not over there then I would have it on up here or all my other stuff that's down here but I never quite really utilized all of this right here so let me show you what I'm going to now all right guys so here it is this whole top door is I want to say done I kind of want to put the done stamp on it and everything in this drawer is all I should need to assemble or disassemble a play field. There may be an oddball tool that might be needed on certain games but this should do it right here. If I don't have something on here that I should be able to take a play field apart then I'm going to find a space for it. So let me just kind of go through what I have. And basically, you're going to need all, obviously, your nut driver set. This is the set from Titan Pinball. I have all those right here. Now, as much as I would love to have WeHa brand, I am sort of cheap. So I went with the Billy Tools, same color and everything, same rating and since I use we hot at work I mean these feel pretty much not much not much different at all insulated set I mean they're rated up to a thousand volts just like we hobbit I not gonna be dealing with high voltage like that all these machines but I have it all organized right here from my flat bit blades to my Phillips and then I have my micro set which is gonna be nice and handy also insulated for certain positions or certain areas to get in there then you have all your clippers pliers needle nose and everything I I don't think I'm going to need this, but you never know. So I've got that in there. Got your standard antenna telescoping magnet. If anybody's ever worked on a play field, you've dropped hardware before and you can't reach the damn thing. This is a screwdriver. Basically a little handheld drill. it's going to be really nice and handy for when you're doing something over and over again your wrist may get tired from dealing with the good old-fashioned screwdriver or nut driver so this is where this is going to be nice and handy for being able to put things together and take things apart a little faster and I'll get to the next thing right here that goes with that drill this little set right here includes all the extended sockets that I could ever need when it comes to dealing with pinball machines you have your SAEs as well as your metric system all in here so that's gonna be nice to utilize a little extended that will attach to this and be able to utilize so going on to this particular work light this is going to be pretty handy one thing it's magnetic to this is able to position in all different types of ways let me turn on here so you have a better idea but goes all the way backwards like that all the way forward like that and even has a flashlight up here so you need a little bit more precision then you could direct it accordingly but one One of the major selling points for me on this is the fact that it's rechargeable because there a lot of times where I sick and tired of having to worry about battery life So all I got to do is hook this up to the charger and this thing will be good to go so nice little work light then i have my klein beer bottle opener didn have to be klein but you know what i was like if i'm gonna get it might as well match and that's the other thing guys i'm not gonna lie that some of the tools that i've selected and everything a little bit has to do with aesthetics. So just keep that in mind. You're not going to need all this. And I'll tell you right now, this is the sad truth. And a lot of you already know this. This is overkill. This is something I skipped over, but this is very handy and useful. It's funny you can get these from Titan, but they are very handy for disassembling a playfield. If you do not know what these are, I will definitely show you in the upcoming series when it comes to earth shaker and disassembling, but if you know, you know so Put that right there, but out of all of these tools had of everything I could majorly reduce down all this to one tool This is an 11 and 1 tool and so you've got both sides right here Phillips and flat blade. Then you have a socket right there. And then this can come out. You've got a different size of Phillips and flat blade and a different size of socket. Wait, I think it might be the same size. But then you have that size of socket. This size. And then you have all of this. This is an 11-in-1. So you're going to knock out a good chunk of your sockets and your other flat blades and Phillips by this one, 11 and 1. I'm not going to lie. That's a very handy tool right there. and for those that do a lot of Harbor Freight shopping and you are pretty cheap just like me, then you probably have seen this version right here before. This has been in my toolbox for years It not a 11 I think this is like a one or an eight but it essentially the same thing different size of sockets but uh yeah it like two bucks at Harbor Freight so and it works but out of all this like I said the main thing is this bad boy right here but definitely gonna be very nice to work on a machine with all of this and just knowing where things go. My toolbox at work is essentially the same thing as this one right here only orange and I'll be sure to show you some pictures of some b-roll footage but I've even got all of my Allen tees right here this is my metric and then I have full sets for metric and SAE and then I have my standard sets down right here as well. And eventually I'm going to progress on to all the electrical and everything dealing with all stuff like that soldering It's gonna be all nice and we get my labels all on here. It's gonna be so pretty So there you have it guys that is all the tools that I currently have and if you're interested in getting any of those tools I will have all the affiliate links in the video description down below. I Do have some other tools actually I'm going to show you I I added this to my mobile toolbox that I use for going on locations and repairs. It's basically a much more compact version of the insulated materials. So get this out. And then you have all the different types of blades that just kind of just slide into slots. And it's in there. And if you want a different blade, just connect it. and then you can grab another one and it's ready to go. Like I said, a very nice little compact set that I'm going to be using in my toolbox for location use. And I'll put the links for this down below as well. So after showing you what I was dealing with in the garage and then showing you with what I'm going to be dealing with now. Did I upgrade? Let me know in the comments section down below, guys. Peace out.
