this is episode 126 of the poor man's pinball podcast we have an amazing show for you today what's on tap we're going to talk about episode 125 with kaneda we got lots and lots of feedback i want to share some of that with you guys and we'll discuss it we have bond reveal 2.0 and possibly more rumors about the upcoming Bond release. Stern, are you listening? I'll give some thoughts on what I think Stern should be doing with their business. TNA 2.0 is available to non-fang club members. We'll be talking a little bit about that and much, much more here on episode 126 of the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast. Let's get started. Let's get right into it. So, I got a lot of feedback from episode 125. For those of you who have been living under a rock, I interviewed Kaneda. It was a great conversation about pinball, and that's all it was intended to be. I think we hit the mark.

And overwhelmingly, there was a lot of positive feedback, lots of great notes, emails, text from a lot of different people in the tribe, out of the tribe, listeners. But I do want to say a lot of the pinball content creators also reached out and told me they thought it was a really good episode. So I'm really happy for that. That's not why I do it, for the accolades and all the attaboys. But I just wanted to point out that even though, you know, Kaneda can be very polarizing, and we did discuss that a little bit, you know, overwhelmingly, like I said, very positive. I just wanted to talk pinball. That's what I do. I try to steer away from the drama. Life is very complicated. Life is messy.

Sometimes you're just not going to like people. So for those couple of people that sent some negative notes, I'm not going to call anybody out. I'm not going to even read all the stuff. It's fine.

But, you know, you're entitled to your opinion. And I answered back, and I told them as much. There were some very not happy people, some of them in the tribe, who thought that I should have maybe called out Kaneda for personal attacks and things of that nature. But that's not what this was about. Once again, you're entitled to your opinions. I welcome anyone to come on the show. We can discuss it if you want. I'm not going to get into mudslinging and a whole thing about it, but if you want to discuss it in a mature manner, which all the feedback by the way was good or bad I mean there wasn't anyone like calling names or anything but if you want to come on the show I'm happy to have you we can discuss whatever you want but once again my whole goal with talking to Kaneda was to talk about bond and and different things going on in the pinball community and I thought that we did that pretty well and it was received very well and you know we'll do it again and you know this is my show this is my podcast. This is how I choose to do it. And I'm not going to apologize for that.     So with that little bit of housekeeping behind us, let's move on to the nuts and bolts of episode 126, the one that we are in right now, we have Bond reveal 2.0. So as you guys know, they kind of revealed that Bond was the new title. There were a couple of teaser pictures and different things that people took. But then because of the passing of the Queen and Stern having distributors in the UK, they had to delay it. So I think it was either seven days or 10 days. I don't have it in front of me, but it will be coming out sometime this week. We should be getting the official reveal with all the stuff. I mean, there's plenty of photos and stuff online now. So, you know, between the leak stuff and the stuff that Stern kind of already put out themselves, you know, we still don't know about gameplay and code and who's doing what, you know. But plenty of great photos out there so we can kind of see what's happening with the game. So far, it looks really great. I think it's been well-received. The layout looks amazing, on the premium especially. There's been a couple notes about the art and the translight. Yeah, I think it's a little Photoshoppy. Once again, we don't know what the... I'm sure we're going to get an interview somewhere down the road probably soon. It's going to talk about the licensor and what is it, MGM, I think. and we're going to learn some things about why they did what they did and it looks like they did a whole lot of hand-drawn art on it, which maybe is a miss. Check out Cary Hardy. Cary Hardy's channel always does great stuff. Special shout-out to Cary Hardy. He did a great video on the small reveal we've had so far. He gave his thoughts. One thing he said that was really cool, kind of had Bond on the side art on the back box. And, you know, in his iconic pose, he thought it would be great to have him holding a pinball, which I thought would have been fantastic. He even Photoshopped it on his video, and I thought that was really well done. And maybe, Stern, are you listening? We're going to be doing a segment later. We'll talk about that. You should be hiring Cary Hardy. He could be a consultant. Pay him a bunch of money to do whatever Cary Hardy does. Love you, Cary. but there's also been lots of rumors swirling around from none other than Kaneda we talked about it a little bit last week on episode 125 so Chris seems to think that they're making a fourth edition that's actually going to be a completely different game he thinks it's going to be designed by Elwynn it's going to be a single level and it's going to be crazy expensive so a super LE if you will I don't know how necessarily I feel about that because that's not the realm that I play in I'm certainly not going to be paying $10,000 I'm not going to be paying $20,000 for a single level game even though it is an Elwynn I'm sure it's going to be fantastic I'm sure the collectors are going to love it supposedly it's not even limited they're just going to sell them they're going to sell it to them for some crazy marked up price and then the distributors can in turn turn around and sell it for whatever they want at least that's the rumors uh we're giving that credit to canada's pinball podcast especially if they're wrong canada you get all the credit for being wrong um if they're right we'll say yeah okay chris was right but my overall thoughts on all of that is i think i think most of what Stern does these days is very smart business I not incredibly happy with some of it but there again I not running a successful pinball company and Stern is So I think if this is in fact true, I feel it's a really good move on Stern's part. I think it's great for the distributors because they can finally make some money. They can make a lot of money on a game potentially. So if they only get a few of them, they'll still do really well for that month selling a handful of these Elwynn games to some of the high-end collectors. So once again, smart business move if it's true.

    They rarely miss the mark. Like I said, sometimes they don't do things like this reveal. I don't want to say it was botched. I mean, obviously no one knew the queen was going to die. But, you know, sometimes it's a little questionable, but I think at the end of the day, Stern has some very smart people working there. You know, Chris and I talked about that last week as well. George Gomez, you know, really, really has command of that crew over there at Stern, and a lot of the things they do is under his direction from my understanding. And, you know, I can't argue with it. I mean, they're kicking everybody's ass and taking names, and good for them. So, you know, I hope Stern continues to be ultra successful in the future because what that means for us consumers is we get more games, we get better games. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. In a moment here, we'll transition to the Stern Are You Listening segment because I do have some ideas, a couple things about the pro versus premium on Bond I want to discuss. But overall, once again, their business plan is very solid. So with that in mind, let's not waste any more time. Let's just go right to Stern. Are you listening?

    So this, you know, we've kind of done this over the years where we kind of ask if Stern's listening. And now this podcast has gotten so big. I'm sure they are. George, John Borg, Gary Stern. Hi. Hey, Keith Allen. How are you guys doing? I know you guys are listening. I know, you know, we have we now reach the far corners of the earth with the pinball podcast giant that Poor Man's Pinball Network is. so so stern couple things you know you keep raising the prices of the game which once again I just alluded to I think is you know it's smart business it's fine you guys you know we expect these price increases now you guys are kind of raising them a little higher than in the past it used to be the hundred dollars hundred dollars now it's you know 200 300 400 and we've kind of grown accustomed to it and and I think that's great you guys are making more money good for you But I got to say, this Bond Pro, it really looks like it's missing pieces. It's just my two cents. I'm sure it's a George Gomez design. I'm sure it's going to be a great shooter. But now if you guys are really charging me $73,000 or $74,000 or $7,500 for a Pro, and like I said, you look at it, and it looks like that whole left side of the play field is just missing stuff. and, you know, like it literally like you forgot to put something in there.

    You know, once again, I'm sure the code is going to be great. You guys really haven't released one in recent memory where the code has not really come along. And, you know, the team of coders you have there is just amazing and they just continue to impress. But, you know, once again, for this price, I mean, now at the premium, you're charging, you know, I'm assuming, these are all assumptions, but you were at $89.99, now maybe you're at $9,500.

    I think you're there with that game. You got the cool thing with the missile and then the little vuck there and the different things going on. But just on that pro, I think you just took out too much.

    And I almost think, well, a couple of things. I've been saying this for a while, for all games, Stern. Stern, now, are you listening? um you know if you're buying a premium you need to include that shaker motor um i know quote unquote it's only 100 bucks or 120 or whatever it might be good for the distributors but you guys are marking these games up and now you're selling a quote-unquote fully featured game for almost ten thousand dollars and you're not including a shaker motor which is part of the pinball experience I'm sorry, in today's modern world, a shaker is just a necessity It's part of the pinball experience If you want to keep it out of the pros, that's fine I get it, but for $9,500 Jersey Jack's been putting them in their LEs forever Jersey Jack even comes with the external volume control and the headphone kit I mean, you really need to start thinking about doing that in the premiums. Like I said, I know you're not going to put them in the pros ever. I'd really, really strongly encourage you to do that. I mean, you're buying a fully featured game. You should get all that stuff. I mean, you have these great accessories. I know it's part of your add-on, but now it's just, I don't know. It just grinds my gears because, you know, I buy these games. And then, so you spend, you know, nine grand on a game. and now you're spending another $500 in accessories. I know, it's like a car dealership. It's the old carguments. You know, you buy the add-ons, and that's where they make all the money because there's not much money in the games. You know, it's good for the distributors, but I don't know. I just think there's a better way. Or maybe just sell, like, the whole package.

    Okay, it's $9,500, but then if you, for another $250, we'll just install this stuff on your game. we'll give you the upgraded speakers. Um, that's another one. Um, you know, once again, if you want to do the cheap $3 Chinese speakers for the pros, I guess I get it, but, um, we've, we've come too far in this hobby. We're paying too much. And, um, I, frankly, I'm getting a little tired of it. Um, you know, my wife and I have been looking at our budget lately and, you know, while yes, these are luxury toys. Yes, I can still afford them, which, you know, I'm very happy and blessed to be in that kind of position. But for this kind of money now, I just think there should be more included. You know, just my two cents. So I hope you're listening. But that's that's my take. And once again, I think the Stern Bond, I think you are putting more in the games now in general. I mean, Godzilla was amazing, Jurassic Park, Mandalorian with the upper play field. I mean, I think we're starting to see more and more stuff in these games.

    So Stern is listening. It took 126 episodes of Ian and I saying, Stern, are you listening? Are you listening? And you've done some of the things, which I appreciate. So I'm just not going to give up. I'm just going to keep pushing for the people, for the pinball community and once again, I'm a Stern fanboy I love what you guys are doing George and company over there, Gary I love what you guys are doing over there but there just some things that I just think you could do better I think I think the community deserves better And I think you know that and I'm not saying you're being cheap and greedy. That's not what I'm saying, but I, you know, we can always do better all the time. And, and I think that you guys are at a point now and you guys are making a good deal of money. You have a huge fan following. I think it's time to do a little better for the pinball community. Rant over. And the last part of Stern, are you listening? You know, I've been kind of railing on the pros and the prices and what should be in it, what should not be in it.

    You know, I don't know what percent are now going to operators. I know tournaments are becoming a bigger issue. I know tournaments are becoming a bigger thing in the community. I've been participating in more. maybe locations are growing again I don't know but maybe, and this might be sacrilege Sarah are you listening maybe it's time to get rid of the parole altogether I don't know like I said maybe I'm way off base here but I've just been giving it some thought it's kind of a fact that we know most homeowners buy the premium that's easily referenced by the fact just look no further than Godzilla I mean, you know, pros are in stock, you know, you still can't get a premium to save your life. And they could probably make premiums for all of next year, and they might catch up with the demand. You know, from my understanding, talking to different distributors, you know, one out of three games that have been ordered in the last year or so have been a Godzilla premium. You know, that's strong because, you know, right now, I know a few games are ending, Zeppelin, TMNT, a couple other guardians. but before those end, you're talking about Stern having six or seven games in the queue, and one out of every three games is Godzilla Premium. I mean, that tells you something. So, yes, it's a fantastic game, but maybe this whole pro model, maybe it's time. Maybe you just make a premium model, and you just condition them to buy that now. I don't know. You know, you still, of course, have the LEs. But, yeah, maybe you just dump the pro.

You know, if 80% of people are buying them for their homes now and Jersey Jack is charging $12,000 for an LE, which is their, like, lowest tier, essentially, then maybe it's time for $10,000 premiums. like I said, with the shaker motor and the Bluetooth, which, by the way, Stern, are you listening? Once again, I know this sounds all negative and I'm ranting and ranting, but these are things I want. And like I said, I think the pinball community once again deserves it. They're well built, um, and no real issues that I'm aware of as far as, as, you know, build quality goes. So good on them for, for continuing to make quality products. And, um, you know, we're just, once again, we're all just looking forward to that next title, which is rumored to be a Scooby-Doo. So come on, Spooky, make that Scooby-Doo.     Whoa, that was a mouthful. But we are approaching the 25-minute mark. I've had a great time talking to you guys today. Just wanted to get some more content out in the world. I'm really, really enjoying this. Pinball Expo is coming up in October. I want to start getting some buzz going for that. We've got a couple of great things coming up. So Jeremy Schmitz and I have reserved, that's right, we've reserved a booth for the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast. We're going to be selling some old pinball junk, some good pinball stuff. I've got so many parts and different things. He's got the same. Uh, so we're just going to sell them, you know, give them away, whatever. Um, I ordered a special banner, which I think is going to be good fun for everybody. Um, you know, I've been kind of toying with this company online and I found this great place that makes these custom banners and they're very inexpensive. So I was like, F it, I'm going to order this banner. So I had a little fun with that, designing that, putting it together. I think everyone's going to enjoy it. and we're going to make this a thing, you know, because it's, you know, depending how this goes, we might do it again for the Midwest Gaming Classic. But I'm looking for some volunteers to just kind of watch over our stuff because I'm not going to be sitting there the whole time.

    But I'll be in and out, you know, the whole weekend. So I'll be coming in Thursday morning. I'll be there Thursday night. I'll be there Friday night. I'll be there Saturday night going to the Pinball Olympics, which I've never been, so I'm really excited about that. we have tribe members coming in from all around the world once again which is amazing and uh it's always great to see our friends and family and and you know people in the pinball community so you can look forward to our awesome booth um i'm really talking it up it's going to be a table with a banner and some stuff but uh either way really excited i think i'm going to bring the recorder and i'm going to do some cool interviews with all kinds of pinball people so we can look forward to that and I'll splice together a great show. Um, those shows, those episodes that I do after the shows have been some of the high, most highly listened to shows because people just love it. Well, you know, cause we're talking about the community. Um, we're just, you know, recounting stories and, you know, just, just great times, you know, drinking, smoking cigars, um, just, just having a great time with, with our, with our pinball friends. So, um, really, really looking forward to that and hoping to get some really good content for the show and hoping to meet all you guys.
