hi I'm Kyle with Stern Pinball and in this video we are going to go over installing the expression speaker lighting system before we start the installation we will need our backbox key and to switch off the power to the game our first step is to open up the back panel and then put our back glass somewhere safe and this video we are installing the expression speaker lighting kit on a Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary game that comes with 5 and A4 in speakers from the factory so this would also be instructions for any Le pinball game you might own there are a few more steps if you are installing the expression speaker light kits on a pro or premium that come from the factory with 4-in speakers and we will include those in this video as well the first step is to take our 516 inch nut driver and we are going to remove all four nuts here that hold the speaker to the LCD panel now that we have the nuts that hold the speaker to the LCD panel off we can gently lift the speaker up and out of the way the trim ring a foam gasket and these four 1/ in plastic spacers are no longer necessary so we can take these and discard them the first piece we'll need is our plastic light diffuser here you'll want to peel off the protective film off of both sides we'll take the light diffuser plastic and install it with the notches either side facing the LCD panel like so our next step is to take our LED ring and install it over the light diffusing plastic here uh one side has a little bit of a lip we want to make sure that this side is facing up towards us also make sure that the wire dongle here is facing towards the backbox uh that'll allow us to plug it into the harness clean the next step is to install the speaker on top of the light ring uh so bring the speaker back over those mounting studs and drop it on down like so and our last step for this side is to reattach the speaker with the nuts you use to remove it in the first place to complete this process repeat these steps on the opposite side in this part of the video we are going to go over the intricacies of installing the expression speaker lighting kit onto a pro or premium game uh versus what we just saw on the Le game there's a few more steps and a few more pieces of hardware and swapping things in and out on your LCD panel that are required to do this process on the pro and premium it's not any harder it's just more stuff to keep track of there's a few things on the pro that I also want to point out that we are going to need to remove and put back on the left hand side of the speaker panel there is a green ground strap you're going to be unscrewing that it's held in with the screws in the center of the LCD screen here you'll you're going to want to make sure to put that back when you reassemble the speaker frames when you unscrew these plates the cable that supports the speaker frame uh keeps it from flopping all the way down against the glass and the side rails um are removed so before you put your speaker frames back together do make sure that you install the cable stays as well I would suggest doing one side at a time to make sure that you get all the hardware and all of those things put back correctly do refer to the instructions for any sort of just clarification but we will go through the motions here with this LCD panel in front of me if you watched through the entire section of the uh 5 and A4 Le installation we just did you'll notice that we didn't use a lot of the hardware that came in the bag uh in the Pro installation we will need a few of the nuts and a few of the washers that come in your hardwar bag to start this process start by removing the speaker using your 516 inch nut driver lift the speaker up here and remove the washers once we get the speaker up we'll have a lot more room to remove the two small Phillips head screws that hold the LCD panel to the speaker plate make sure you use the correct screwdriver a smaller screwdriver or a number one screwdriver is ideal you don't want to strip these uh the hardware bag should have an extra one or two of these but if you are using the incorrect screwdriver it can strip out the heads of these screws so do be careful these are the two screws that go into the LCD panel here once we get that removed we can remove the four screws uh that hold the speaker plate to the LCD panel take those washers off do remember that you have a cable strap or a p strap that goes in the uh bottom corner here when you go for reassembly now that we have this loose the speaker panel can lift off of the LCD panel like that save the metal washers this uh foam piece is no longer necessary so we can discard that now we'll take the uh larger speaker panel here that is how we will install the speaker light kit place it on as so do remember before we put this nut back on we want to make sure we get the cable strap then a washer and then the nut so this doesn't flop down what we can do is we can start these nuts that hold this plate in we're going to want to make sure we install the screws that hold the LCD panel on first that way uh we can make sure that this panel lines up correctly with where the LCD panel is don't tighten it down all the way it'll be easier to start the uh second one just in case it needs to shift a little now we can take our speaker and our speaker light ring um we're going to make sure we install the pigtail the dongle for the speaker light wires facing uh towards the backbox towards the computer there's four holes in this plate that line up with the pattern of the speaker here to attach the speaker to the LED ring we are going to use these small plastic rivets what you can do is get the speaker lined up on the ring and gently push the rivet into the hole um I would suggest trying to line up uh one or two of these before you push down uh to secure the speaker to the LED ring but once we get those lined up you what you do is you just push on the rivet head with your finger and it will snap in place and that will secure the speaker to the speaker ring now that we've assembled the speaker to the LED ring and we have our speaker plate on the LCD panel we'll take our light diffusing plastic here with the notch sides facing towards the LCD panel to make room for that screw there once we have that down we can place the assembled speaker and light combo and this is where we'll need to start digging into our Hardware bag uh we'll need a couple extra washers and nuts uh just make sure we put a washer down first and then a nut on top of that reconnect the speaker and just like that we have one speaker attached to the speaker ring onto the the LCD panel once you've got that one side done the process is exactly the same on the other side just make sure you get the correct pieces of Hardware installed where you uninstalled them our next step is to mount the node board inside the backbox of the pinball game we'll take the template and lay it in like so for the next step I'll take the small screwdriver and use it as the punch to make a small divot in the wood you're going to place the screwdriver driver's tip in one of those small holes and I'll use another tool like a nut driver to kind of act as a small Hammer to be able to make a nice divot in the wood our next step uh now that we have those divots is to install the node board before you install the node board into the pinball games backbox double check that the address on the dip switches are set correctly the correct address should be from switch one to switch four off off and on this is going to be installed in this orientation uh the two RJ45 ports are going to be facing towards the back of the backbox if you noticed on the template the pattern of the holes this will only install one way in the bag of Hardware you'll have four hex head screws and two plastic wire guides or P straps we want to preposition these on the board before we install it so we can take our screw put it through the P strap the first piece strap goes in the upper right hand corner the second one goes in the bottom left hand corner to install these we will need a/ Quin nut driver or socket wrench what I find easiest is to get your head in there close and make sure that you get the tip of the screw into one of those divots you've made that way you're not working against it or not in the divot don't screw it down all the way start by just getting it to bite in the wood you will need to use a bit of shoulder strength to drive that screw in if you're using manual tools once we get that first screw started we can bring the other side of the board that has the the screw through the P strap into position and start the same process once we feel the screw bite we can move on to the next one now that all four screws are bit into the wood and started we can snug them up fully don't overtighten but just enough to make sure the board is snug to the side of the head now that we have the node board firmly secured into the head we are going to start rerouting the node buus cables so take your RJ45 cable from the parts kit we are going to remove the left side node buus cable from the mpu we are going to Route this out of the cable straps and we are going to install that into our lower RJ45 Port here on the Node board we just installed if you can try pushing this wire down into the wiring loom a little bit and that'll keep some of the uh extra you loopy wires in the backbox to a minimum we can take our small RJ45 cable and install that in the port that we uninstalled the prior Cable in and Route it into our P straps or cable straps here we can install the other end of this into the top open port on that node board inside the head now that we have the node buus cables reorganized we are going to run power to the node board we just installed so we need to get our power harness here this harness uses the same power port that is used for accessory Toppers if you have one of those installed on your game the harness that we include with the expression speaker lighting kit has a splitter so you can use the your topper and the speaker lighting kit at the same time so down on the the bottom right hand corner of your backbox you'll have the power distribution board and we will plug this harness in to our open port cn7 we'll take the other end of that harness and we will route it through the bottom here into the cable strap we're going to run this power cord Behind These cables over here I will install it onto the header then we will install these wires here into the P strap like so our last harness is the LED speaker data harness so we will attach this to both of the speaker rings and then attach the other end to the node board to finish off the installation of the LED data harness we're going to get our a flush cutter we are going to cut the zip tie remove the now cut zip tie now with the zip tie from our bag of Hardware we can feed it in like so bring it up Center these two down this is important to do just to make sure that this harness can't be pinched in the hinge when you raise and lower our speaker panel our last step is to install our fite Clips we'll start by installing these ferites onto the nodeb cables come in like this capture the cable like so and then gently pinch we want to install these as close to the circuit board as possible but still giving you enough room if you were to ever need to uncp the wire they'll perform better that way if you don't have a little bit of a loop on the uh LED cable here push it through the P strap just a little bit so we're going to come in like this clamp this wire down hold it in place so you make sure you don't pinch it between the flats make sure that the cable does stay within the round portion of the fite once you confirm that it is click it together like that all right looks good all of our harnesses are in place the node board's installed speakers are secured let's get the back glass back in fold the LCD panel up shut the coin door and power the game on when you power the game on for the first time with a new node board you will see on the screen a initializing or updating a node board that's normal and that's it you have speaker lights thanks for watching another video from Stern tech school
