Setting up a new Stern Pinball game. Congratulations, you're about to set up your new Stern Pinball game. At least two people are required to move and maneuver the game. A pinball game is heavy, so please use caution. You will need the following tools. A 5-8 inch socket or standard wrench, a utility knife, snips or cutters, and a torpedo level. Before starting, note which side says truck this side only as seen in the video. This is the side of the box that you'll be cutting. Begin by cutting the exterior straps with your cutters. If the game has been delivered on a pallet have a second person help you stabilize the box as you rotate it off of the pallet. Open the top of the box. You may want to remove and refer to the instructions taped on the front of the game at this time. With the top of the box open remove the foam pieces and position the narrow boxes to the back of the game box. These boxes contain the legs of the game. Using your utility knife, carefully cut the left and right sides of the front of the box and let the front panel of the box lie on the floor. Do not cut the interior strapping on the game. Attaching the legs. Remove the two narrow boxes from the game box and remove the legs from each box. You will need your 5 aces socket wrench to loosen and remove the two leg bolts and washers on each side of the front cabinet. Line up and install the front legs using the bolts and washers removed in the last step. Tighten each bolt with your wrench until you feel the bolts stop turning. Do not over tighten the bolts to avoid any damage. Two people are recommended for this and the following steps. Slowly lower the game down onto the front legs and set aside the box. The game is heavy so please proceed with caution. Use your wrench to loosen and remove the two leg bolts on each side of the rear cabinet. Lift the back of the game and line up and install the rear legs using the bolts removed. Take care not to scratch the finish on the legs and secure the legs tightly Do not over tighten You can now cut the nylon strap with your cutters Remove the keys and the tag from the shooter rod Determine which set of keys opens the coin door and unlock and open the coin door. Remove the retaining clip from the back of the cash box and then remove the cash box from the cabinet. The cash box contains useful items for your setup including the bolts to secure the backbox, the plumb bob, and other essential materials. Raising the backbox Raise the backbox to an upright position and immediately install and secure the bolts and washers in indicated locations on the back of the cabinet. The bolts and washers are found in the coin box. Removing the Glass Open the coin door then reach inside and locate the release latch located on each side of the inside front of the cabinet. Pull the latch up to release and then unlatch the top clasps on each side. Remove the lock down bar by lifting straight up. Close the coin door and lock it with the key. Always close the coin door when removing the glass. Remove the glass by sliding it towards you and easing it out. Be sure to grasp the glass firmly in the center and be careful not to hit the corners of the glass against the rails, the game, or the floor. Place the glass in a secure location nearby. Powering on the game. Install the power cord at the back of the game and plug it in. The power switch is at the bottom right of the backbox under the right speaker. Switch it on and the game will begin the startup process. Checking Connections Inspect the playfield of the game. Check for and secure any parts or screws that may have come loose through transportation. Next, raise the playfield by firmly grasping the center of the apron at the ball trough, lift upward, and then slide the playfield towards you. Grasp the support brackets and pivot upwards to rest the playfield on the front of the backbox. You may want to remove and review the game service manual now With the playfield raised inspect and secure any connections or parts that may have come loose during transportation Check the connections at the boards and assemblies under the playfield. Setting the tilt. As you know, the tilt setting is an important part of the game. Slide the plumb bob onto the hanger wire on the game's left interior wall. Position and tighten the thumbscrew. The higher the position of the plumb bob, the more sensitive it will be to tilting. You can now lower the playfield to test the game. Checking the backbox connections. Open the front LCD panel with the keys labeled H95. Carefully lift and then slide the back glass out towards you to remove it. Check each connection to make sure they're secured and check the SD card to make sure it's properly seated. Game software update instructions are located on the back panel inside the backbox. To update the software manually, you'll first need to download the latest software from sternpinball.com and place it on a USB thumb drive. Power the game down, insert the USB thumb drive into the open USB port on the CPU, power the game on, and follow the game update instructions on screen. When finished, turn off your game and remove the USB thumb drive. Finally, reinstall the back glass and then close and lock the speaker panel and turn the game on. Running Diagnostics. Open the coin door and use the buttons to navigate the service menu. To access the guided setup, navigate through your Diagnostics menu to the Utility menu. In the guided setup menu, you can select your language, country, free play option, game pricing if necessary, and game volume. Installing the pinballs. With the lock down bar removed, you'll see a decal indicating the number of balls needed for your game on the right edge of the cabinet. Make sure to wipe the balls to remove any leftover oil from the factory. Install the balls by placing them on the play field so they can roll down between the flippers and into the trough You can run a ball trough test and and manually test some of the switches at this stage Leveling the game It best to level the game when it in its final location Locate the bubble level above the shooter lane. The bubble should be between the two black lines for a normal angle of play. Typical pitch will be 6.5 degrees. Next, place your level straight across the middle of the playfield from left to right. The bubble in your level should sit directly in the middle of the two black lines. If needed, make small adjustments to the feet until the bubble is centered and use your wrench to tighten the nut. Next, replace the glass and reinstall the lock down bar and lock the clasps. Registering your game with Insider Connected.
