Polybius, is it real or is it fake? We're gonna talk about it tonight, right after this. Hey guys, welcome back. So check this out. We're gonna do a really quick video here because tomorrow, I can't believe no one's talking about this actually. So tomorrow, Numskull is actually going to announce a Polybius quarter-scale cabinet. Now, Polybius is technically an urban legend in arcades. So if you're into arcades, you've definitely heard of this before. But if you haven't, I'm going to run a quick clip just so you can kind of get an idea of what Polybius even is. Because some of you are saying, what's Polybius? Well, here's at least the urban legend version of it. Here we go. They say there was once a game, a game unlike any other, that infiltrated arcades in 81. when gaming fever was hot. It captivated the youth, who lined up in a magnetic trance to play it, at a price more than any coins were worth. They would succumb to an addiction more powerful than any drug, and be struck down by an illness more dreadful than any virus. Memory loss, nightmares, seizures, possibly suicide, were all attributed to its ambiguous wake of terror. And then, it vanished like a specter in the night its name was polybius okay so that is the story if you've haven't heard before it's it's not a new story it's an urban legend that's been going on forever right but i love this kind of stuff so where did it come from like what even started people thinking this now it's supposedly the origins of portland oregon but we don't really know for sure but that's at least where it came from but if you go to oops that's me if you go to wikipedia you can look up something called Project MK Ultra, and it was a real project. It's unclassified or it's declassified now, as you can see it. It's about CIA mind control. So they were doing things... This was a real thing. And they were doing, supposedly, experiments on human subjects, but somehow this bled into this arcade cabinet, somehow being something that... Oops. The short and skinny of it is... Okay, it ended up being something that existed, right? So supposedly there was this arcade cabinet that no one can really verify anymore called Polybius, and they were saying that this video game was actually part of this mind control program. These guys with black suits would come in and download data from it. Now, regardless of if it's real or fake, I just love these weird mystery things that you can't really ever get to the bottom of. There's been games made. There's a Polybius VR game that was developed, I think, for the PlayStation VR. there was definitely some other versions of Polybius made there was even a group of people that said they made the original Polybius but they could never be validated so it's just it's just kind of fun right but the cool thing is so what's happening tomorrow is numskull is going to actually announce this company right here if you're unfamiliar with them they're really cool they make these quarter scale arcades so they're really small but the thing I love about them is they meet the actual design elements of each cabinet so these all look like the authentic design like i have the miss pac-man one which for some reason oh there it is it's right there it looks just like my miss pac-man galaga cabinet i mean outside of mine's a miss pac-man galaga the shape is accurate the back of it's accurate everything down to the coin door so they do a really good job but they have a bunch of these they're they're kind of expensive but they're they're totally if you're a collector and you love arcades then you'll be super into this but there was an article earlier this week that came out that was talking about this not being a hoax and that it actually going to be coming out tomorrow now the thing is like what it going to be Because there technically was no Polybius game So I really curious what it actually going to be based on Are they going to make their own? Is it going to be based on versions of the game that other people have created? So I just think it's really neat. We're going to hear about it. I think it's at 8 a.m. tomorrow. Numbskull is going to make their announcement. So I just wanted to just have a short stream, let you guys know it's actually coming out tomorrow. Well, it's not coming out tomorrow, but they're announcing it tomorrow. I don't know. Maybe they'll have pre-order links. I'm not even sure. Maybe they'll show us some pictures. I don't know. But I just thought it was really neat to see this kind of thing because it's like bringing an urban legend to life is super cool, in my opinion. Super cool. So I don't know. I'll wait in the chat real quick to see what you guys think of this. I didn't want it to be a long video. I just thought it'd be fun because it's coming tomorrow. And I know, like you guys are saying in the chat, there's various versions, ROMs that were made. There's a whole bunch of different things. but no one ever knows you know no one really knew if there was ever an original game but i think it kind of doesn't even matter it's just the neat urban legend urban myth whatever you want to call it i'm gonna order it i don't care but i'm a sucker for this kind of stuff you know i'm gonna order it without even seeing it if they told me right now there's a link and i can't even see what it looks like i'm probably gonna order it but that's just me i'm an arcade freak i love everything arcades um i made a post on twitter earlier this week where i'm like are we do we have too much retro stuff and i'm like yeah we probably do but i don't care all right i'll go to the chat real quick so my family says i wonder if you'll be able to play it on the at games cabinet i don't know maybe um so chef dave says not a huge fan of these num skull arcades for that price seems way too high i think after you've played with one you'd change your opinion they are expensive so they're not for everybody you have to be into these collectibles i see that um i think uh tech Quiz X is in the chat, good buddy of mine. And he loves this kind of stuff. Like he's a big collector. He collects a bunch of different things. And yeah, I just love that stuff, man. Oh, wait, I forgot I had the headband thing in today. So today, my hair is a disaster. So I just put it back in a hairband, but don't expect people to see me. So it's fine, whatever, you guys don't care. You've seen me do it before. Usually they're about, so someone was asking about price. We'll go to the website really quick. I think they're about $150 is the usual going price. So this one was super expensive for the Pac-Man 40th. Let me see. I can't remember the Ms. Pac-Man one. Sometimes they're even a little cheaper on websites like Amazon right now. I think they're a tiny bit cheaper. Or actually, Walmart, I think, had them cheaper than Amazon. Let's see. Yeah, so $149 on Walmart. Let's see what it is on Amazon. On Amazon, so yeah, $129. Well, it's a little cheaper on Amazon, not too much. So yeah, they're kind of expensive. I agree. no no doubt they're kind of expensive but they're just yes he's jolly green said he got his galaga for 119 you can look out there you can kind of see them but again they're not for everybody they're collectible things but they're so damn good like the little the little joysticks have good micro switches i should have brought one out and put it on the table cam so you guys could really see it i've done various videos on several of them but this will be neat i bet tomorrow there'll be a lot of buzz around this because anybody that's into arcade games this has always been that weird like urban legend urban mystery thing that everyone's like did it actually exist i don't know so kind of neat but uh you know techways says they're a great price point for what they are i think they are because the quality is just so damn good i'll go back to the website one more time they just do such a good job like if you read their website right it's you know they're obviously always using officially licensed roms you know it plays the rom and it uses this bespoke emulator, which is great. They usually expose the dip switches, so you can go into there and expose the dip switches. They're made of real wood, so it's just... Overall they just They are definitely 100 the company that behind these They hardcore arcade guys As a matter of fact I think I can remember shoot am I getting Numbskull and the other one confused There is the Dragon's Lair, but that's not Numbskull. That's New Wave Toys. So they're really great, too. New Wave Toys and Numbskull both kind of have this little miniature thing kind of cornered. Chris Gaisot said there's going to be pre-orders on KameStop. I don't, I can't guarantee that. There might be a link to pre-orders on GameStop. I don't know. That could possibly happen. But even Jolly Green was mentioning the quality is awesome. They're just great. They're just really good. So anyways, let's see. Maybe it's going to be a quarter scale. I don't know. I think it's just going to be the regular one that they've done to date. They're pretty big. Do you want me to get one? I can get one really quick and we can fire up the thing. They're big. They're actually not small. Let me see. If you guys hang out for a second, I'll go get one. I'm wearing shorts. Don't make fun of me. Oh, crap. What did I do with it? Oh, man. I don't know what I did with them. Seriously? Hold on. I got it. Ah! I got... Ah! shit hold on hold on sorry I dropped a bunch of stuff alright you can see the thing is pretty big so I got my Galaga one hold on I'm gonna I dropped a bunch of stuff I don't really have the desk cam set up but I can turn it on real quick hold on we're turning on the desk cam give me just a second and then you guys can see all right i'm gonna put the camera up here let's see i didn't really usually i set the camera up before i uh i'm gonna it's probably gonna play some random oh there we go okay hold on all right desk cam is up but uh hold on oh man see i didn't i wasn't prepared to do this but let's see i'll see if i can zoom in on the uh so you can check the see how good the quality is there i mean look at that you would think that you were looking at a real arcade control panel i mean they do such a good job there's even the little details like the speaker right there is there this one's a little dusty because it's been sitting in there but the graphics are awesome if you look at the back um all of the the vents that would have been on the original is there i mean it they this isn't like a piece of crap this they they do charge a lot but these are like high end like i'd consider these like high-end collectibles you know like look at the detail on these things they're just they're just awesome i i and you know mike obviously loves galaga and that's the reason why i picked galaga let me see if i can go zoom out a tiny bit more i'm gonna bring the camera a bit higher and let me see sorry guys i wasn't really prepared to do this so i'm a little bit off kilter here but uh but yeah that's the kind of overall look of it they're pretty big. I mean, they're not small. That's by any means. But if you like to... Yeah, it's wicked dusty. It's been in my little office area for a little while. My little storage area. But yeah, they're amazing. They're good quality things. I wouldn't sit here and promote something if I thought it was a piece of junk. This thing is pretty awesome. It plays the arcade ROMs. You can access the dip switches. They're freaking really, really solid. So, anyway, that's all I really wanted to talk about. I wanted to talk about it because it's going to probably be big news tomorrow? I would think it would be. I mean, there's enough people that love arcades. I would expect this to be bigger news No it doesn have HDMI out or anything like that It just a fun collectible item that runs on batteries You can set them up They really just If you're not a hardcore arcade guy, I think it's hard to have real appreciation for this. But the fact that they're just so great. Someone's mentioning the Dragon's Lair Mini. That's actually New Wave Toys, but I do have that. I did do the Kickstarter for that. I will be getting one of those. but anyways we'll all be under mind control and that's it so I guess I'll do final thoughts real quick because I know this isn't the typical live stream but I just wanted to do something to talk about it because I felt like the conversation hadn't been started around this and I was surprised because I've been like first to two things lately and that's like almost impossible like unheard of that I could even be first to anything I didn't see any YouTube videos on it I was just really surprised so I just like hey maybe I'll just go live and talk about it for a second but uh but it's final thoughts time now All right, so what do I think about Numskull? Potentially, or not potentially, with this Polybius announcement tomorrow. I think it's cool. There's a mystery behind it. What's it going to be? Is it going to be a game they created? Is it going to be some other ROM version of Polybius that has been bounced around that was created over time? I don't know. Are they going to be super secretive and pretend like it's the real version of the game? I don't know. And then there's that weird German company that supposedly made it, that if you go look at any of the splash screens of the game, it has that German name there. And I can't remember what that German name meant, but I'm pretty excited. So tomorrow we'll know all the information at, I think, 8 a.m. Pacific. So I'll probably post something in my YouTube community page just to see what it is and share it with you guys. A lot of bachelors said Mad Little Pixel went live one minute early. He probably did, but hey, he's full-time. I can't keep up with full-time. I got a day job. so uh yeah so then tomorrow night don't forget tomorrow night we're gonna watch the new bill and ted movie over on one up weekly that should be pretty fun we decided not to do bogus journey because well it kind of sucks and uh yeah that's it i hope you guys enjoyed it i have a whole bunch of plans for live streams coming up i got a couple cool videos coming up one's gonna be um how to how to flash your own sega genesis cart so if you're into physical carts i'm gonna show you how you can make your own physical cards really easy which is fun um i got a pc build which is which i'm gonna do which is super simple it's just two things you have to buy one is the pc off of amazon and then i tell you what graphics card to get and it's all pre-loaded and ready to go so if you're looking to build your own arcade machine that's pretty neat that's the name of the company sign sign sloshing or something like that i don't remember what it stands for yeah but yeah guys that's it i hope you guys enjoyed enjoyed this short stream if If you did, give me a thumbs up on the way out. TechWiz, I owe you that video. I swear to God, I'm going to be down to the wire. I'll probably be giving it to you tomorrow. So, yeah. And that's it. Give us a thumbs up.
