X-Files restoration: soundboard sent for repair, legs restored and repainted purple.

Summary

Cary Hardy documents Episode 2 of his X-Files Pinball restoration project, focusing on cosmetic work after sending a defective soundboard out for professional repair. high confidence · Hardy explains 'this is what happens to a lot of machines that have been sitting out or not well stored, is that they rust'

  • Customer's budget does not include powder coating, so spray paint is being used for the leg restoration

There was a time where every man must admit defeat, and I guess I must admit that now. Could not fix that board, sent it off for repair, just beyond my scope. I even called Stern and they said that the only way to resolve my issue was to put it on a bench. So I figured I took the easy way out, sent it off for repair, and essentially the guy that was aware that there was no sound knocked $100 off the price, so essentially that $100 is going to go into repairing that board. So it kind of evens out. But I figure while that board is being sent out for repair, I'm going to start working on the cosmetics for the machine, starting with the legs. All right, so the task I've got to deal with on these legs is removing the levelers. Now, this is what happens to a lot of machines that have been sitting out or not well stored, is that they rust. And then they rust, and they rust to the legs. Looks innocent enough doesn it But sometimes there are dangers involved that never meet the eye No matter where you meet a stranger be careful These go in the trash On to the next leg. Alright now that we have got the levelers removed off of these legs, let's get them cleaned up, get them sanded, and then on to paint. The kill room, got the legs all clean and sanded down to get any kind of loose debris, whatever else could be on there off. And now we're gonna paint these legs. Now a lot of the times, if it was my machine, I'd get them powder coated, but we're gonna do this the cheapest way possible, and that is just by spray painting them. And it all depends on what the customer's budget is, and this is in his budget, not powder coating. So what we gonna do is we gonna even do it in a purple which is pretty close to the cabinet side art so I think it should look pretty good Let get this going So I got one side done now it time to paint the other side and getting a nice a dark purple It's gonna be a little difficult to tell on this slide but once you know I'm all done it dries then I can get it all hooked up and it's gonna look pretty good. Thank you. Thank you We'll be right back. .
