Will I find something in there to give me just what I need? Another reason to bleed, one by one, hidden up my sleeve. One by one, hidden up my sleeve. And I'll let it go to waste. I love it, but I hate my taste. Way, keep me down. Hey there, pinball fans. Jack Danger here, coming to you live from Stern Pinball's replay room. and we are here to celebrate a vault stream of Foo Fighters. This is a game I have a very strong personal connection to, and I've got the game team here with me, along with some other awesome players, and we're just going to jump right into it and explain what we're doing. All right, Raymond Davidson, take it away. Hello. First thing I noticed, we only need the Dave combo on the topper, so that's why I wanted to be player one. I don't know. I'm going to see if I can snag that. But, yeah, it was a great time working on this game. I don't know why. Let's see. So the Dave combo, I think, is right ramp, left ramp, right orbit. So let's just see if we can do that. Good memory, dude. Well, it's easy to remember because the right ramp is the Dave shot. It has this little face down there. And so all the combos kind of start with that band member. There's right ramp. Uh-oh. On the left ramp you can see he's blinking for mode start. Gotta hit it before the little combo thing goes away. No! Oh, saved it. Saved it. Oh, double danger! Okay, we're good. Alright, I guess I should do something other than mess around. So, Internet, this was... I'm gonna call you Internet if that's okay. That's the microphone, I'm sure that made a lot of noise. Internet, this was my first Cornerstone that I got to work on. and the Foo Fighters were kind enough to let us do kind of whatever we wanted on this game. The only pushback they had was we tried to call the Foo Bot the Growl Bot, and they're like, no, it's about the whole band. But the whole story of the aliens, that was some inspiration we pulled from a poster series that Jeremy Packer (Zombie Yeti) did who did the art on this game. And yeah, it was a really fun project to work on. All right, I got area 51 up here. Get up there. Got to hit that clean. All right, hit it. There is a large star post on that rubber in the upper play field that if you loosen it and scoot it into the play field more and then tighten it back down, when it rolls back, it bops it to the flipper. Yep. Ah, so you can adjust the difficulty. Yeah, bud. Oh, a skill shot chain anyone? Oh, man. That was like one of Jack's early requests. It was like, right, right, right, right, right. In a movie that the Foo Fighters came out with, they do something called the Pearl Jam High Five, and this is very reminiscent of that. Oh, man. I'm so used to playing pros. I'm like, wait, why isn't that coming back yet? the fact that Gary let me put that in the game I was pleasantly surprised also the inlanes I changed a lot about this little format stuff that we usually do this is where we introduced the sort of kicking target back into our repertoire of games the targeted inlanes so you could sort of shats in there or if you just naturally catch the ball All right. Let's see if I can get Area 51 with Roswell. That makes sense, right? Chuck Ernst and the animation team did a freaking absolutely phenomenal job. Oh, they crushed it. Yeah. Phil did a lot of the animations. He's like a professional. Oh, there it is. yeah Phil's done a lot of cartoon work over the years and we accommodated or I'm sorry we sort of stole him from that world to make really awesome animations for Pinball Machine so area 51 hit the kind of teal looking shots to light your super so once you get enough oh I think I got the combo or no I got something so much stuff is happening You've also got some button activations, which are fun. Oh, yeah. I like to save those for when I'm about to drain. Oh, man. That ricochet off the pedal target up around to the upper flipper was something that I worked really hard on with the engineer, Eddy Hicks, to make sure that that did the thing. Look at that. Oh, nice. I had the in lane. I did that in the wrong order. Oh, man, that was beautiful, though. All right, so I think we beat Roswell. I got my outline balls saved lit. You get that from the bot award. So you hit all the bots and then get the bot award. You get balls saved. Oh, your bot award's lit again, too. So I got another one. So that'll be super modulator. So this paddle, it just stays down for like 30 seconds. So let's see. Don't do that. All right, I think we have a super jackpot close to ready. All right, now it's ready. So all these blue shots will build the super jackpot. To get it, I need to go up top. Dude, your control is nuts. Oh, I got the extra ball. Which means you also got the battle ward. Oh, yes. So now, the next time I hit the paddle target, it'll stay down. But I can wait on that. So you can see it's kind of ready. It's like pulsing. Oh, yeah, those two white arrows. Here we go. Super. Oh, you killed me. I forgot I had double danger. Well, that's the tilt animation, and here's the extra ball animation. It was so tempting. Well, shoot. Jeez Louise. Got to do it. All right. Well, I guess we'll do some. Actually, I still want this combo. Right, Ram? Oh, wait. No, that didn't count. because I was in the middle of... There we go. So you have to kind of... You have to follow the little combo arrows. So, folks, you may not have... If you haven't played this game before, we got a lot of great songs from the competitors. There it is. Oh, man. Oh, that means you got the top... Oh, the top... Oh, my goodness. Randy, Chris, Taylor, Pat, Nate, Toy Time, Multiball. Yeah, so if you can get all the player combos, and they carry over from game to game. If you could fill them all up, then it might select ramp for Toy Time multiball. But yeah, what I was saying is we got a lot of great songs from the Foo Fighters and you get to select your soundtrack at the start of the game. Yeah, there's a lot of songs. I think there was even an update where we... Added two more. Yeah, right. This was one of the songs. I think this is nothing at all. Dude, Toy Time's great because it's just the Overlord playing with the toys and just talking smack the whole time. Yeah, so you build your jackpots with the lit arrows, and you light your jackpots with switches, so the spinner, basically, because there's no pop bumpers. Looks like I have something big lit on the left, so I want to hit that. Oh, yeah, that was another Gary rule I broke with this game, is that I didn't put a pop bumper on it. Oh, man, if I can... It was a rule for a while. The points are flying. The balls are everywhere. Good gravy. Oh! I lost. Saved one, lost two. I don't know about that exchange. That's a weird tradeoff. I think my button will hit that right ramp and add a ball, but I could just hit it myself. Dude, that kickback target is so fun, man. Oh, my God. It makes so many shots for you. Oh, yeah, during toy time, if you lock a ball on the Overlord, it builds everything faster, so I think you get double everything. All right, I'm going to... Worth it. Woo! Worth it. Holy moly. What's going on, baby? Also the action button lights up different colors to let you know how many activations you have And if you use them sparingly you earn them back a lot quicker But if you blow through them all you have to work to get it even lit again Alright, well that's the end of that. Dude, huge. And now we're back to New Orleans. So that was just paused during toy time. So now we're back to the mode. That's right. Yeah, so now I use all my buttons, so now, see, I gotta hit that thing, like, five times. You can also get double hits by comboing it from up there. Ooh, baby. Super Modulator. Oh, and your combos. Yeah, combo coins. You gotta make sure to cash those in. so I got three out of six combos for Combotron still in this mode if you ever get to Bot Frenzy you'll hear a chiptune version of a Foo Fighters song and I believe Tanya made that yeah let's go for that So I just need that one bot over there on the right. Let's go for our skill shot chain. There we go. Oh, I forgot to log in. I need to log in. Is it connected to the internet in here? I got another extra ball, too. I think that's all of them. Ray did software on this bad boy. I do like to put a lot of extra balls in, but I don't know. I like the feeling of being able to continue playing. Yeah. The saddest part is when... You're not playing anymore. Yeah. I agree. Oh, K'Fum just started my Overlord. All right. Well, let's go for the... Thanks, Kicking Target, for starting something without me. All right. Well, let's just try to get the jackpots here. If you get the super in this, it's actually really valuable because it makes you eligible for Fubot multiballs. So you can either play two Overlord multiballs or you can get a super in the first one. And the targets on the left will give you an add-a-ball. Yep, looks like I already got that. And this also has the feature of locking a ball up for double jackpots. A few more hits for Sonic Radio. Ah! Settle down. Another bot award. All right, so bot friends will be ready. Oh, I didn't get the super, but we got the Bot Frenzy. Listen to this. Bot Frenzy! What? The animations on this game. All right, so now during Bot Frenzy, it starts with a nice ball saver, so you can actually hit these bot targets. so there's one and then that lights a spinner or if you hit, so there's one spinners lit at 1x oh, come back, come back, come back oh generosity alright, there's two, oh I got three so the spinners lit at 4x right now or I can hit that, target would make it 8x, so let's just cash in oh, or not alright, here we go, big shot there we go That's times four. So if I would have hit that other target, it would have been times eight. That's about five million spinner shots. You see how he got the Chris combo up there? And he just got Taylor. I'm filling him up for you now. Yeah. Put it back the way you found it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, I got to cash in this combo at the Overlord. Oh, that didn't... I don't know. I chose the Area 51. The UFO button works in mysterious ways. it decides what's the most valuable thing. It tries its best. Alright, ooh. I'm going to go for a big old bot frenzy. Here we go, another fatty one. I also started Sonic Radio. So that's from these. When you see these blinking, it means you have Sonic Radio either lit or running. Sonic Radio, you want to hit all the white arrows to kind of build more radio towers, increases the value of all the pink arrows. It could be worth quite a bit. Oh. Broke a billy ball. All right. Let's go, Rick. Woo-hoo. I think half of that was the topper. So I basically, you can see my foobot over here. Oh, both legs, left arm, and the head. Yeah, so I need the Combotron for the chest, and I need an Overlord for the arm. So that is what I will go for. You can kind of work at both at the same time, because to get Combotron, you've got to hit combos and then lock them in at the Overlord. So if I do like... Ooh, I can build up my van mods. There you go. Actually, let's pass right now. I want to build them up here. Nice shot. Oh! All right. Okay. Great ball one. All right, now we're going to have Madeline play. All right. Introduce yourself, friend. Hi, I'm Madeline. I work here. Okay, great, great. I work here, and I like to play pinball, so it's a dream come true. Excellent work. Learned a lot watching... All right. I've never broken a rule in this game. Really? Well, make sure you log in under his score. Okay. Is that okay? Yeah, go for it. Just don't show your QR code. Nobody's going to want to take my QR code. Beautiful. Okay, here we go. So Madeline, what's your approach when jamming on to the food fight? I, truth be told, do not know a whole lot about this game. I usually hit a couple white shots, hit the van, start a mode. So you know the core of it, that's great. I usually go with New Orleans first, but is there a better one that I should pick? It's really all preference, like each mode plays differently. Okay. I'm just going to go with New Orleans because that's what I use. New Orleans is definitely, if you're familiar with the play style, like hit a shot and then hit it again. It's sort of like playing horse with yourself. Can we talk about these green circles? What's wrong with them? What are they? Oh, the circles all over the play field? That's the Shambotron. Oh my god. So they light up a certain color to let you know how far along in a combination you are, and also to hit those shots to add to the combo. Yeah, once you start seeing them get all purpley and red, they're starting to be worth a lot of points, but also you want to lock them in as the Overlord, and then that'll give you a bonus, and then count as one of your six combos for Shambotron Multiball. So if you don't, if they time out, then they'll kind of float away, and then you won't get progress towards Combotron. So at some point, you've got to try to hit the Overlord to lock them in. Yeah, yep, that collects them. The Premium's nice because you can actually juice up your combos on the upper playfield quite a bit. Oh, backhand to the right ramp. How the food. Yeah, that was a little gross. That was impressive But I all out of extra balls now Oh you used them all up I think so I bet there was a lot there Ooh, next shot 2x. Ooh, 2x, outlay. Alright, we're going to try this one way. Alright. I have to play my hero. So, there's a couple of places to do skill shots here. You can try to short plunge the drop targets here. Or you can try to short plunge the little in-lane rock-a-meter area here. So, let's see what we got. Oh, I think we got a special guest. it's tanyo kleiss tanyo what's going on step up to the microphone sir oh hi everybody uh so tanyo kleiss uh lead software designer i forget how those titles I don't know, either. Game designer. Game designer. Software programming. Yeah. Code monkey. Yep. Tanya and I worked very closely together to make this game what it is, along with the rest of the incredible team that made this game possible. And Tanya, I know we don't have you for long, but do you have any weird stories to share about your time with Foo Fighters? I don't remember much of anything. But I know it was a good time. It was a good time. Yeah. We had an excellent team, excellent – sorry, I'm really – they just let me out of my cave. Anyway, so, yeah, the Jeremy Packer (Zombie Yeti), he worked on this game, and he made the art and stuff like that. We got Phil Gullet and Raymond Davidson. I mean, just, like, lots of people – a lot of people contributed to this thing, and it was a really great experience because we were able to be very creative. Oh, yeah. Very creative. And the licensor just kept on saying, like, oh, that's fucking cool. Can I say fuck? Yeah. That's fucking cool. The game's set to swearing, so we're good. So that was, like, a lot of the feedback. Everything works great when people, you know, are comfortable with F-bombs. And they like what we're doing. They were definitely, you know, fans of the kind of Scooby-Doo mystery van kind of vibe that we were going for. Yep. They signed off on it, and it was awesome. Yeah. so you know it was an epic journey that we took all together and I'm very proud of everything that we did yeah it was a great collab I mean when I got on the project Jack and Tanya had this really cool layout themed with the various band members and the city modes and everything and we just kind of worked together to figure out how to implement everything, you know. The FooBot, come up with different goals for the FooBot. Oh my god, I got the Nate combo. Alright. You guys can get the Toy Time. Actually, the hardest, the next hardest one would be the Rami combo. Now these were all, I think Jack literally had a list of them and he was like, these are the band member combos and I was like, okay. I love combos. So you can blame Jack for the Nate combo. And the the Rami combo. So the Rami combo is actually, I think it's even harder than the Nate combo. You have to go Rami, loop, and then paddle. Yep. But the, the paddle needs to hit from the loop. Cause you just leave the flipper up. Right. So it's only a two shot combo. Jack, are you winning? Uh, no. I am in second place. We got all the points here. I knew it. But the great ring is a million points. Um, We've had a lot of great ideas for this game. We put in as much as we could. Maybe the future someday we'll have some more time somewhere to implement some other cool things that we have planned. I'm not promising anyone's time. I'll earn C++ to help. I got a book to borrow. Yeah, no, I mean, if we could work on this forever, you know, it might be enjoyable. I mean, it's, but yeah, it's, time keeps flipping. I want this Rami combo. Actually, I guess, more importantly, I should go for the Overlord and try to get Fubot. Alright, Rami combo's set up. I got my paddle where I want it. Whoa, that was cool. Alright, here we go. One... Oh, of course it doesn't count because I'm in the middle of the combo already. Yeah, you gotta pay attention. Okay, now we're clear. One's cool. Oh! Who put that paddle back there? That's a good target. Oh, and now I got ten seconds to make the combo. Yeah, that was cool. Oh Gary likes two-flipper games, so having it for his flipper, he's very proud of his players, because they may not remember to use it. But he was very happy with the idea that this kicking target could make some of the shots that are designated to launch. So that kicking target will sometimes put it up that ramp for you, it'll put it around the orbit, and sometimes it'll get the Overlord and it'll go straight up the middle. All right, here we go. Oh, yeah, pun intended. Here we go. Wait. Oh. I was going to button it. Okay. Fresh pins. You're up. Yes. Oh, yeah. Let's talk about the synth work, Tanya. Can you explain the process of making the Bob Frenzy song? The Bob Frenzy song, well, that's the most important part. Okay. Yeah. So actually, it's a collab. Well, I mean, of course, Foo Fighters wrote the song, but Bill Baffey. I'm sorry, Bob. Bob. Bill's actually going to bring it up, though. Shout out to Bill Baffey. But Bob Baffy, it was sort of a co-op with him. He took the song, like the original song, and mapped it out so that we could make our own version of it. But it was completely in sync, so we connected and switched between the two songs seamlessly, which is kind of cool. But I guess people, someone would claim that I made the song, but it's not. It's me and Bob, and what I'm particularly proud of is the vocal. kind of, there's a Moe synthesizer voice that's like, and it's sort of based, like, yeah, that was my favorite one. One of the best things I've ever done in my life is the Moe performance. And it's inspired by, um, Oh, he jumped in the room he's on. Oh, yeah. No, baby. Um, yeah. Anyway, it's, if you, uh, the inspiration for that comes from an album called Switched on Country, which is the album, I think it was from the 70s, that has a bunch of country songs performed on the Moog synthesizer. And it's sort of like a... It was based on... Switched on Bach was the first big introduction into Moog synthesizer. But Switched on Country was sort of a take-off back where they have some really funny country songs with backing and Moog stuff. So anyway, that was inspiration, you know. But I took it from there. There's also another tune, right? Did you get to the final battle? Yeah, the final battle song. It's, uh... Yeah, the Defender. Exactly. Yeah. That one, I think that was more Bob Baffy's composition. Or Arayne's mom's. That one, it does switch between the two, right? Yeah, once you get to the next stage and it goes... Right. Yeah. Yeah, so it'll seem as if it's a good thing. There's also a really great shot of an actual photograph of Tanya, myself, and Satan hanging out. Oh, in the final battle? If you ever get there. Yeah. Yeah You can play it from a calendar I heard that Dave Grohl was one of the best in the city Oh he was Satan That right Yeah. For the movie, actually. He was Satan in Pick a Destiny. Yeah. Yeah. You can tell. I mean, because he's, well, you can't tell. Shout out to Zach Zac Stark. He did a lot of UI elements. Yep. That's right. I also see little bots exploding and the little combo tron filling up. All that was combined. You put a lot of love and attention into that UI. So, like, at the bottom, everyone's names look like they're carved into the wooden dashboard. Yeah, just a lot of really cool things went down there. Yeah, Zach did an incredible job on the project. Get my insider on the part over here. Oh, one-handed death save. He made that pose for that moment so he could do a one-handed death save. All right, let's see if it'll let me in. Oh, log in. Oh, let's go. Full food. Full food. Never go full. Oh, wow. Are you guys trying to fill up the... We already got it. Oh, you did? Yeah. I got a refill zone. I was saying we. I just did... Raymond. I just did the one combo. Here, I'll... Here, I'll do the rest of it. Here, no, I want to try to get to Fubot, so I got to hit these, this Overlord. Oh, Combotron. Combotron, alert. Uh-oh. Yeah, that's the other combo. Oh yeah, the combo tron's really cool too. Another achievement. I love this. This is cool. Now I don't think I'll have very good value, but I luck in a couple of combos, let's see here. Oh, okay, we got some blues. Might even have some reds. Oh, okay, so we got a lot of goodies here. goodies here. You basically just keep hitting until they turn red and then that lights the Overlord for a super. Yeah, good job. Zach started the whole display in the back there. Alright, Overlord's lit, but I want to keep building it up. Oh, there we go. I love this game. Yeah, no doubt. When I get to play it, I like it. Too many balls. Oh, my God. Are they all gone? They're all gone. Everything's gone. It's all over. Well, it was fun. Oh, man. All right. You were around, buddy. I mean, okay. 1.1. Time to do some serious watchful. Yeah, I trust you. I believe in you. I think I just need to trust and believe in myself. That's where I messed up on the first two. Yeah, the combo tron is really cool because the notes go in and out as you're hitting shots or not hitting shots. It's actually practice. All right, New Orleans. I'm going to finish you. Where to next? Not like that. Is it really? Yeah. Guess that would be a silly thing to lie about, huh? No. If you ever go, I mean, I'm sure you've come across that crazy bridge. Ooh, that was a long one. Oh, the punch bridge? Yeah. Oh, yeah. It's like one of the longest bridges. It seems so unnecessary. It looks like you can go around, it's like five minutes longer. No, it's not. All right, I'll take it. That bridge is scary, though, because when the Carl Weathers comes through, like, I mean, this crazy Carl Weathers comes through, and you're driving on that thing. A friend of mine, actually, Carol Wagner, one of the writers, worked a lot on this project. She has a travel company. And a lot of good stories about the, you know, the foggy tornadoes and stuff like that. You need to do something to make it feel a little bit better. She actually, so the one-inch-bop target to the left of the right ramp is angled specifically for shooting at just right to go up the straight. The snake is snitched over there. I think every game needs a snake. I also kind of like it because then when you break the right ramp, it doesn't come back at you. Oh, yeah. One million miles an hour. Yeah, the ricochet shots. That designer route can't change anything. I don't see where I'm going. But yeah, I mean this thing is... There's some heavy geometry in this game. Oh, I'm crashing. I think you'll get that back. That sucks! God! I put a thing so that if he plunges and only hits that bot target and goes down the right out wing, you get it back. Oh, really? So there must have been a third, not a second, a third switch somewhere. Totally intentional. Okay. You got area 51. If you take it back up top, you got no way. Yeah, that right orbit. 351's lit. Oh, no. Yeah, it is. I love all the different colors. That just happened to me, too. Alright. This is it, Internet. Time to get in there. Visit Seattle. This is my burner account. That's what I'm going to get. Okay. A lot of good call-outs in this game, too. Put a whole bunch in, and then you put in even more. Yeah, there's a lot of great call-outs. I think, like, towards the end, we even got, like, Rebecca to do a call-out for us. She's the voice of New York, yeah. I think I'm even in New York. Oh, yeah, you are. You play, like, a country bumpkin, don't you? Oh my gosh. That's why he made it one-foot rubber plate field. So that when he had one hand... Get rekt. Wow. Holy crap. Are there one-handed tournaments? Not enough if you ask me. Oh, it's a mode and a combo. You're right, you're right, you're right. I forgot. The button do the thing. Now you gotta... Damn it. I wanted... Get up there. Oh! I had it. I didn't get an extra ball on that, did I? No. High score. Oh, get it. Well done. That was fun. All right. Oh, wow. Look at that fatty button. Oh, that was in toy time. Oh, super lightning. Don't sleep on the super lightning. Oh, I must have been running that. Oh, yeah. Let's go. So yeah, Super Lightning, once you get 10 of these Cthulhu Kickers, then the left and right ramps and the kicker are lit for like 2, 3 million. And the more that you're hitting kind of the regular lightnings, that can make it worth a lot. So don't sleep on the little lightning bolts. Well, Internet, thanks for watching. This has been the Foo Fighters. Thank you to the team. And thank you for everyone that has played this game, bought this game. it's going in the vault but who knows what the future holds alright friends see you on the next one goodbye

licensing_signal: Foo Fighters licensor unusually permissive and collaborative, approving creative narrative (aliens, van, swearing) without significant pushback

high · Tanya Kleiss: 'The licensor just kept on saying, like, oh, that's fucking cool... They signed off on it, and it was awesome'
