I've traveled every road in this here land. I've been everywhere man. I've been everywhere man. Across the deserts there man. I've breathed the mountain air man. I'm taking the girls back there. It's going to be great. So what did I do the rest of the day? I explored the island, walked up the top, found out where the Skyway cars dock. It's about $30 for a round trip ticket, which was a bit steep, but then so was the Skyway, man. It was just massive. What's the point? Now, I had upgraded my fare, like 30 bucks, and I got premium economy on this flight. It was a 5 hour flight from Singapore to Delhi, left at 9am, got in at noon, right on time. I had a great experience on the airline. Plane was in great condition. All the stewardesses, the flight attendants, they were wearing these saris, kind of as their uniforms. It was just great to be like, alright, I'm freaking going to India, on Air India. This is what I wanted to do, flag carrier, let's go. I landed there and things are a little bit different. Things are definitely different in India. Took me a little bit to get to customs and immigration. Apparently there was a landing card that I didn't hear I needed, so I had to go and fill that out and get back in line. I did purchase the visa before I arrived, like I was supposed to, it was 80 bucks. I opted for the five year one, so I have five years of tourist activity in India that I can get, so I can go back and I won't have to pay a fee again. Napoleon I'm going to go through this old market. Made my way over to this, there's this old fort there called the Red Fort. It's made out of red sandstone. It's from the 15th, 16th century when the Mughal rule was going on, like Ottoman Empire adjacent kind of stuff. It's very Moorish architecture. And so I was making my way over there, but just going down these passageways, going down the road, crossing the street and just seeing all kinds of street food being made like literally On the way back home, I went to a nearby I saw a guy who was sitting on a curb, basically in the gutter. He had a cinder block with a burner on it, a wok full of oil and he was hand rolling samosas and just throwing them in the oil and selling them off the street and it's like you know the ways, the things people come up with to get by, the ingenuity was what impressed me, like what a place, like I can't imagine what life is like there for these folks. But I'm glad I got to participate into it a little bit. I took pictures, you know, but I didn't want to, like, just be walking around like I'm doing poverty tourism, you know, but like, it was like, you know, like, like serious, like poverty, like serious slums. And I've been to terrible parts of Appalachia where, like, it's incredibly economically depressed. And those people are living absolutely large compared to these folks that I was seeing. But like, somehow, it all works and people get day to day. The smells came and went. Hi, I'm David Van Es, Knapp Arcade. and then I was full, I got to sleep for like two or three hours, get a shower, get everything packed up, and then I was off man, I was at the airport. I took a cab, and you know, I've learned watching YouTube that you gotta haggle with these people. The first price they give you is always going to be grossly overpriced, especially if you're a foreigner. And so you talk them down, and if it's too much, you walk away, and then their buddy will pick you up for that price, you know. So, I wanted to get a cab and I was willing to pay 100 rupees, right, to the airport, which is a dollar. And the cabbie's like, no, no, 200. And I'm like, you know what? Let's do it. So, when I walked out of the hotel, a taxi had just showed up and a guy got out and the taxi driver, of course, like, locked his eyes with me and he's like, do you want to go? And I'm like, Terminal 3. And he's like, 200 rupees. And I'm like, you know what? I'm not even going to hang out with this guy. He's just, he's perfectly here, right at the perfect time. And again, it's $2, right? Like, yes, take me to the damn airport. Knapp Arcade. I'm not sure what he's saying. It wasn't in English at all. And my Hindi basically doesn't exist. And for all I know, he could have been speaking Urdu, one of the other languages spoken there. But I was like, okay, fine, brother. Here's your 200 bucks. And then I get dropped off at night. Traffic is crazy. I go play Frogger again across five lanes of traffic. I get to the airport and it's like, I just had the India experience, man. So I get to the airport. Now, I wasn't able to get my boarding pass for my flight. David Van Es, Knapp Arcade. I was a military man at the checkpoint and eventually I was able to show him like my Orbitz receipt for buying it and like my name is matched and everything. So eventually he let me in but like what a hurdle. I was like, God, it could be possible that this guy could just say no and wave me away or, you know, take me aside for more questioning and that could be an hours-long process and, you know, I'm in a different part of the world, man, where like stuff's happening. Speaking of stuff happening, I'd gotten an alert earlier that day that my flight had been rescheduled or rerouted. So the route for us was going to skirt around the entirety of Pakistan the other direction over the sea and then it wasn't going to leave us enough fuel to be able to go the entire distance to Chicago. So what they had decided to do was fly to Vienna, Austria. So you get in this plane and it was an eight and a half hour plane flight to Vienna where we would stop to refuel for about an hour and a half Thank you for watching. I'm a little bit unfortunate, but what do you do, man? The point of this trip was to fly around the world. I could have rebooked and I could have got a flight to San Francisco, but it would have gone back the other direction. I wouldn't have crossed all the time zones and it wouldn't have served the purpose. I would have had to pay an extra fee and all that business. I was like, you know what? I'm in this, man. Let's go Air India. There I am at the departure hall. I showed up four hours early and I got right in. I mean, it took like 30 minutes for me to clear security and everything. So I was like, well, I have a lot of time now. That's great. Luckily, there was these cool lounge chairs that you can lay on. They're like, kind of like what you'd see on the beach or something, but they were like in the gates. And so I was able to crash on one of those for a couple hours and sleep, which was nice. And then it was time to board the plane. Plane ended up leaving at about 3.30 in the morning. And then of course it was a nine and a half hour slog, or eight hour slog to Vienna, Austria. and then we come cruising in and here I am just leaving deli with all of the deli-ness and then here we are landing with these beautiful green pastures and small little medieval towns with little church spires that are probably from the fifteen hundreds and I'm just like my god can I get out and just walk around Austria here for a little bit of course that was not allowed uh... and then uh... boom you know sure enough about an hour and a half later we took off again and then uh... yeah an uneventful nine hour flight to chicago The

While I would like to go to Ukraine, I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to go to North Korea. I'm going to stay at Tajikistan. But, yeah, I think there's some other places that I really want to see that I'm going to get to. Never been to Africa or South America, so I got some continents to pick up. I'm trying to pay attention to what was going on with Pinfest and I'll think of some pinball content to get to, but I want to leave you with that. Hopefully this can serve as a source of inspiration to you. Don't be afraid of a 15 hour flight. Be afraid of an inferior airline. If you're on the right airline, the travel can be fine. Listen, I've taken road trips where I've driven 15, 16 hours in a day to get across country or something. And so, you know, to go into an airplane and sit down and have like an entertainment system, food and snacks, hanging out, put your compression socks on, get up, walk the plane, talk to you who's you ever you're sitting next to and just enjoy the fact that you're traveling and then you know, 15 hours is going to go by whether you're traveling or not and then you can be somewhere, you know, pretty phenomenal. You know, I could have flown to Japan and spent a couple of days and then flew to Hong Kong and broken it up. You certainly could do that if you're afraid of, you know, that long I'm not going to look at a long flight and be worried again because I did the 19 hour marathon back from Delhi.
