TL;DR

Grazley Garage acquires mint Simpsons Pinball Party and World Cup Soccer; Jurassic Park restored with single capacitor fix.

Summary

Michael from Pinball Shenanigans visits Grazley Garage after recovering from a back injury to document recent arcade additions: a mint Simpsons Pinball Party (Stern 2003, home-use, heavily modded with color DMD, custom art blades, LED upgrades), a mint World Cup Soccer pinball, and a newly operational Jurassic Park (Data East) that required only a single capacitor replacement. The video showcases ongoing restoration projects including Night Rider (full cabinet and playfield restoration) and highlights the challenges of complex wizard modes like Simpsons' notoriously difficult super duper mega extreme wizard mode.

Key Claims

  • Simpsons Pinball Party was sourced through Ken La Point via Pinball Revolution website after Ken personally reached out to Kevin

high confidence · Michael describing how Ken alerted Kevin to the listing even though Kevin doesn't regularly check Pinball Revolution

  • Jurassic Park (Data East) was fully non-functional but restored to working condition with a single capacitor replacement in the power supply

high confidence · Michael and Kevin testing the machine after Corey replaced one capacitor; Michael verifying it now boots and plays functional games

  • World Cup Soccer cabinet is in near-mint home-use condition with minimal wear and was purchased at a 'fairly reasonable price'

high confidence · Michael's detailed visual inspection noting minimal fade, brilliant decals, minimal scuffage, and noting it would only need 4% restoration work

  • Simpsons Pinball Party wizard mode (super duper mega extreme) requires completing five specific multiball supers, Scratchy's Revenge super, Alien Invasion, Mystery Spot Super, Daredevil Mania, and Secret Stash

high confidence · Dutch and Michael discussing wizard mode requirements during gameplay; Michael noting Carl D'Anghelo took over an hour to achieve it

  • Stern machines from early 2000s (like Simpsons Pinball Party) were less cost-cutting than later models and would qualify as Premium tier today

medium confidence · Michael comparing component quality and noting Stern 'didn't cheap out as much as they did in some machines moving forward'

All right. The last video I did, I was over at the Grazley garage and I was testing my back because I really hurt it. And it had been a few days, so I thought I would give it a test drive. And that day was relatively successful. I hung out at the Grazley garage. I ran a couple errands and um it was basically fine. And the next day, I was going to head back over and help Kevin with the Jurassic Park machine and see if we could get it up and booting properly. And I was carrying a small bin of parts up the stairs. And that's when it felt like I got zapped with a freaking taser gun on my spine. And that didn't feel good. And that really uh put me down for the count. Um, I was stuck in bed for a few days and I could barely sit, let alone stand, let alone walk. I was peeing in a cup for a few days. It was not It was not good. But here I am about a week and a half later. It's the first time leaving the house, first time driving. My back's feeling better and um I'm giving it another test drive. This time I won't be doing any lifting of small bins or heavy pinball machines or anything for quite a long time. I need to heal up because we've got Ontario Pinfest coming soon and I got to go to Whistler BC in a bit. So, I need my back. And uh anyway, so I was uh off the radar there for almost 2 weeks and now I am uh somewhat back in action. In the interim, uh Kevin and Dutch over at the Grazley Garage have been doing stuff and things. Xenon is finished. Tales the Arabian Knights has left the building. Party Animals left the building. Millionaires left the building. at some point. I don't know if I mentioned, but Monte Carlo, the marble racing tabletop game that has left the building, but um stuff has been also coming into the arcade. Kevin found a uh marketplace listing for a World World Cup soccer for a fairly reasonable price and he ended up closing that deal, picking it up the next day only to find out that the thing kind of looks like it's home use only and is in in pretty immaculate condition. So, the deal kind of got better for that reason. So, I'm going to check this out. Also, just today, Kevin and Dutch went on a little road trip to pick up another holy grail game. It is a Simpsons pinball party home use only with color DMD LCD, a few little cute mods, art blades, LEDs, and uh they have been kind of, you know, toying with a couple different Simpsons pinball parties over the last couple years, but nothing's ever come to fruition. But our buddy Ken La Point, where Kevin and Dutch got their shadow from recently, he posted his Simpsons and uh posted it on a website called Pinball Revolution, which Kevin never checks. But Ken was good enough to reach out to Kevin and say, "Hey man, just so you know, I posted this machine and it was for a reasonable price. very reasonable considering all the mods and the fact that it's home use only and otherwise Kevin would have never known about it and it was already starting to get attention. So, they closed a deal a couple days ago and just picked it up and set it up moments ago. So, I want to go check this out. It's exciting to have another Holy Grail game come to the arcade. So, that's what's going on. Hopefully I can, you know, hang out and stand up and chill for at least half an hour. Check out the action. This is definitely a good uh a good test for my back. But don't be doing anything stupid there, Michael. Oh, and I totally forgot to mention Night Rider is almost done. I'm talking like full cabinet restoration and playfield swap. So, we have to check that out, too. Oh, another lovely day. My camera's going to get soaked just going from the arcade to the garage here. Let's snoop around and see what you got going on in here. and you work fairly quick, so I'm sure there's uh some progress here to see. Night Rider cabinet has been restored and the paint is going on. Pretty cool to see the process. Here we've got the uh pinball pimp stencil kit. You can see uh Night Rider in the background there. And that is coming along. You've got the Playfield. Is this the Playfield here? >> Yeah, that's the old one.

Oh, nice. Look at this thing. That is gorgeous. Beautiful new playfield here. Have a look at a couple photos Kevin sent me. It's a little better than me kind of on my knees filming upside down. The photos kind of seem a little crappy, but it's a much better view than before. Here's the rest of the stencil kit. Uh it looks pretty uh like an elaborate project. I mean, there's so many different pieces and parts here. >> Yeah. Other fun pieces,

huh? Oh, just uh that's I've never really seen the process of like a full stencil job from start to finish. I just see little parts and pieces. I mean, it just seems like a lot of work and very elaborate and a lot of like you got to apply one part and then peel it off and then apply more parts and peel them off and rinse and repeat. So, did you get your uh red paint then today? >> Not yet.

    7:00
Yeah, right on. Okay, well that's what's going on in the garage. Let's slip on over to the arcade and see what is going on over there. Only realized the next day that I had completely missed Xenon because just the day before Mike Dewee had come and picked it up. So, I didn't actually get a chance to see and play test the final product cuz my stupid back. But at least here are some photos that you can check out to see the finished product in no real particular order because the sorting on this editing app is not really automatic and I'm too lazy to sort it properly. But this thing, as you can see, turned out incredible.
    7:53
Dutch uh is either playing Simpsons or working on Centaur.

    8:08
Yeah. Well, okay. So, the story on the Centaur is that Sean Bennish had someone redo the playfield on it. Swap the playfield. and they did a pretty bad job. So, it is over here to get uh fixed up. And it is kind of driving Dutch a little bit mad because it is a lot of work. You've spent what do you say like 40 hours on it already? >> Probably ballpark.
    8:33
    Probably ballpark.

Uh yeah, it sounds like you got some sound issues to boot. So, uh, still a long ways to go. The the trials and tribulations of pinball restoration. Okay. So, as you can see, new toy and new toy. But first, let's start. >> New toy. There's three of them.

it works now. >> Exactly. Let's go turn it on because um
    9:11
Exactly. Let's go turn it on because um
    9:11
Exactly. Let's go turn it on because um when I was going to come here last, I had brought a few capacitors to install into the power supply thinking that might get it to work. Um oh wait, I can't lift that. I do not want to re-trigger any uh any back problems. Anyway, I uh thought that replacing the capacitor on the power supply or a few could potentially get this thing up and running. Well, I didn't make it here because I broke my back, but Corey did make it here. Uh, you said what? Yesterday. >> Yeah.
    9:42
    Yeah.
    9:42
Yeah. >> And uh, he replaced said capacitor.
    9:45
And uh, he replaced said capacitor.
    9:45
And uh, he replaced said capacitor. Actually, I'm gonna let you turn that on. And check this out. We now have life. He literally replaced one small capacitor on the power supply. And look, T-Rex is alive, chomping. We've got the display. We've got the lights. The thing has come to life for a like 30 cent part. It's pretty amazing that something like that could take the whole machine down. All right. So, let's try a game here. I'll pass that over to you.
    10:27
Oh, you know what? I should put this in my lineup cuz then I'd have Data East Jurassic Park, Sega Jurassic Park Lost World, and Stern Jurassic Park side by side by side. Okay, let's try the skill shot here. Hey. >> Okay, fire.
    10:41
    Okay, fire.
    10:41
Okay, fire. >> You got to pull the trigger. Oh, okay.
    10:44
You got to pull the trigger. Oh, okay.
    10:44
You got to pull the trigger. Oh, okay. I thought the top button would work, but that's the smart missile.
    10:54
    Wow, this thing is
    10:54
Wow, this thing is super functional. When you first got it, the way that it started, I thought this is going to be a major basket case to get working. But look at this. It's flipping. Dinosaurs are eating balls. It's amazing.
    11:16
Oh, that's trouble. Don't use my smart missile. And uh it is fully LED, too.
    11:30
I mean, we noticed that last time we were here, but we didn't really get to see them turned on. Now you can actually see.
    11:42
There we go. Oh, yeah. Oh, nice. >> Dutch said, "Pull the trigger." There
    11:44
Dutch said, "Pull the trigger." There
    11:44
Dutch said, "Pull the trigger." There was a little uh sort of Easter egg there or something that I didn't catch. Oh, nice.
    11:58
Oh, it thought it was going to be. >> Okay, so let's go in the scoop. No, I
    12:01
Okay, so let's go in the scoop. No, I
    12:01
Okay, so let's go in the scoop. No, I need uh I'm playing a mode, so I got to go up the ramp. Shoot the egg. Shoot the egg. Woo! Oh, thank you. The the the raptor uh pit there knew it screwed me, so it gave me my fall back. Okay. Ramp that lights the scoop right there to start a mode. >> I think it's powered.
    12:27
    I think it's powered.

    12:54
There we go. What mode did I start?
    12:54
There we go. What mode did I start? >> Shoot the There we go. >> What happened? Did that not register
    13:11
start uh another mode? Oh, >> it registered
    13:13
    it registered
    13:13
it registered so that I could start another mode, but no bones were being busted. Let's imagine I like tried to tilt right now and I busted my back during bone dust mode. That's not funny. >> Okay, bone busting is over now.
    13:30
Okay, bone busting is over now.
    13:30
Okay, bone busting is over now. I didn't even get to use my smart missile. Well, I think that's it. Quick little game. That's pretty uh awesome. It's freaking working great. All cuz of one capacitor. Well, let's go uh try out your other other new toy right behind us. >> Yeah, we'll give it a quick try. Let's
    13:51
Yeah, we'll give it a quick try. Let's
    13:51
Yeah, we'll give it a quick try. Let's uh while you're setting it up, let's check out the condition. I was mentioning how mint this is. Like, have a look at this cabinet.
    14:07
There is very little fade, if any. Like look how bright that yellow still is. And even the the decal here, the World Cup soccer decal. That is like brilliant white still. And these corners.
    14:26
That's amazing. Did the guy mention like how long he had this for? >> He said he's moved it a couple times
    14:31
He said he's moved it a couple times
    14:31
He said he's moved it a couple times like >> Oh yeah. Well, he did a pretty good job. It's uh minimal scuffage. This is one of these machines that if you restored it would change the overall result by like 4%. Cuz it's already super minty. I like the custom uh shooter knob. Coin door is beautiful. These brass legs always tarnish a little bit, so that's pretty normal. Oh, look at this. >> Oh, wow.
    15:09
    Oh, wow.
    15:09
Oh, wow. Let's uh Yeah, that's usually super tarnished. Look at that. >> And the inside of the wire form, too.
    15:16
And the inside of the wire form, too.
    15:16
And the inside of the wire form, too. It's not super scuffed like to silver. >> Oh, yeah. Right. It's actually still
    15:20
Oh, yeah. Right. It's actually still
    15:20
Oh, yeah. Right. It's actually still like God, it's brass look to it. The ball is super faded, which is kind of surprising compared to everything else. And the kick plastic is not broken. That kick plastic there is always broken. Let's turn this on for fun and uh check the audits. Can we do that? Not that they're reliable, but I think it would still be cool just to just to see. Uh often there's some wear down here. I don't know what it is, but World Cup soccer tend to wear around here. >> The magnet.
