TL;DR

Nightclub restoration reaches power-up milestone but needs shutter motor and solenoid fixes.

Summary

Nick Baldridge reports on his restoration of a Bally Nightclub pinball machine, documenting initial power-up and diagnostics. The game successfully powers on and triggers basic circuits when the coin switch is pressed, but immediately tilts and cannot complete a full cycle due to missing shutter motor/board components and a non-functioning trip bank reset solenoid. He outlines a three-phase plan: acquire missing parts, install them, and fine-tune the game to full operation.

Key Claims

  • Nightclub game powers on successfully and main power path is verified working

high confidence · Nick Baldridge describing his testing; directly observed during power-up

  • The game immediately goes into tilt when powered on due to missing shutter motor/board

high confidence · Nick Baldridge explaining the tilt issue and its cause

  • Trip bank reset solenoid does not actuate, preventing the game from untilting

high confidence · Nick Baldridge's technical diagnostic findings

  • Replay reset solenoid has been verified as working and zeroing out the meter

high confidence · Nick Baldridge confirming successful test of replay reset circuit

  • The start relay actuates successfully when coin switch is pressed

high confidence · Nick Baldridge verifying control unit and mixer activation

Notable Quotes

  • “Tonight, I did just enough shopping to fire up the nightclub... I really wanted to see it start lifting balls.”

Nick Baldridge @ early in episode — Expresses personal motivation and impatience to reach power-up milestone

  • “Not only does the game light up, which is a good step, that verifies that the main power path is actually good... this is a very good sign, healthy sign that the game is going to live again.”

Nick Baldridge @ toward end of episode — Positive assessment of progress; establishes major milestone achievement

  • “The game goes straight into tilt... without a shutter board in place there's a relay that does not get tripped.”

Nick Baldridge @ mid-episode technical discussion — Identifies root cause of primary blocking issue

  • “I've posted to my Instagram feed just a little video of the game on... it's not fully working so Vic I know I promised you a video of it running but it not quite there yet.”

Nick Baldridge @ early episode — Acknowledges incomplete state and references prior promise to community member

Signals

  • ?

restoration_signal: Nightclub machine successfully powers on for the first time after extensive restoration work, with main power path and basic coin-door circuits verified as functional

high · Nick Baldridge confirmed power-up, transformer function, and start relay actuation during testing

  • ?

restoration_signal: Restoration is blocked by missing critical shutter motor/board component and non-functioning trip bank reset solenoid; these parts must be acquired before further progress

high · Nick explicitly identified shutter motor and trip bank reset solenoid as blocking issues preventing game from exiting tilt state

  • ?

product_concern: EM/bingo pinball machines require hard-to-source specialized components (shutter motors, specific solenoids); restoration timelines depend on parts availability

medium · Nick's three-phase plan requires acquiring missing parts as the first step, implying sourcing difficulty

  • ?

content_signal: Nick Baldridge documenting Nightclub restoration progress via Instagram video and podcast episodes; building ongoing narrative around machine revival

high · Posted Instagram video showing power-up; episode explicitly documents current state and next steps for community audience

  • ?

community_signal: Podcast audience has direct engagement with restoration project; listeners have made prior requests (e.g., Vic's request for running video) and are following progress

medium · Nick references promise made to 'Vic' and acknowledges he knows listener was waiting for fuller video documentation

The End What's that sound? It's 4 Amusement Only, the EM and Bingo Pinball Podcast. Welcome back to 4 Amusement Only, this is Nicholas Baldridge. So if you've been listening for a while, you can probably tell that I'm pretty impatient. It's one of my... many, numerous character flaws. Tonight, I did just enough shopping to fire up the nightclub. Swapped out the power cord, finished cleaning as much as I could, finished the last little bits of the playfield swap, and I really wanted to see it. Start liftingballs. Now the game is still missing a large number of parts and I've posted to my Instagram feed just a little video of the game on and It's not fully working so Vic I know I promised you a video of it running but it not quite there yet But this little video shows you what happens when I turn it on flip the coin switch and basically where I'm at, aside from not having a shutter or shutter motor, which may be causing some of my problems here. The control unit and mixer will start as soon as the coin switch is pressed, which means that the start relay actuates, which is good. I've verified that the replay reset works and zeroes out the meter, which is also good. What I can't verify at the moment is anything else. Basically, the game goes straight into tilt. object on the tilt sever things open so that leaves me with a control unit issue potentially were possibly it's a shutter motor control switches some of those are tied into you interesting areas that you wouldn't expect and without a shutter board in place there's a relay that does not get tripped Uh so not sure yet what exactly the problem is there But the other thing that I noticed is that the trip bank reset solenoid doesn activate And so when the game tilts it doesn untilt Now the control unit will run for long enough to complete I'm going to show you how to do a one revolution of searching in order to pretend like it's working and then it drops straight back into tilt. Now the reason is because tilt, that relay, hasn't actually come undone. Now when you first turn on the nightclub, the tilt trip actually drops immediately. So my first job is just getting a hold of those parts. My second job is going to be to install them and then the third one is going to be tweaking the game until it runs perfectly. But I am well on the road. Not only does the game light up, which is a good step, that verifies that the main power path is actually good Everything from the power cord to the transformer to the power switch is all working as intended A good sign. But many of the game's critical circuits that are tied into the coin door are also working. So all this is a very good sign, healthy sign that the game is going to live again and it will be time for nightclub here in the Baldrige bingo parlor yet again. Well thank you very much for joining me. That's all for tonight. My name again is Nick Baldrige.
