The game will tell you if you're hitting it too hard by tilting. You'll get a warning on some of the newer games and then on your third warning the game ends your ball. On some earlier pins, like wedge heads from like the Vichy stuff, the game just shuts down. Now you can adjust that as an operator, but you're supposed to hit the game.
