It's a calm before the storm and within a couple hours thousands of people are going to come through these doors. Game on Expo, this is Retro Ralph. Is Retro Rick going to be there? Yes, Retro Rick is going to be here. And the best thing about this show is there's cosplay, anime, arcade games, video games, consoles, literally everything. So if you're a gamer, this is the place to be. The last game on Expo was in 2019, and man, I'm so glad it's back. I'm about to take the stage to show you how awesome this place is, right after a dramatic slow motion walk up some stairs with some bad fluorescent lighting. So get ready, cause it's showtime! I thought you said people were here! This was just a little bit earlier when the doors opened and people were pouring in, But just hours ago, this room was empty and silent, waiting to come to life. Game On Expo is Arizona's biggest gaming convention, and as I mentioned earlier, tons of vendors are here. Gamers across the board are going to be stoked. Not just because there's some of their favorite games here just waiting to be played, but some of their favorite content creators are here as well. Before we meet some of them, let's check this place out. Because there's so much to see, and you know I'm an arcade nerd at heart, the only logical place to start would be in the arcade. Pinball machines were lit up and ready to go, arcade cabinets looking bright and tight, as thousands of people took to their flippers and joysticks over the weekend. There were lots of great games like Street Fighter II, Simpsons, and also some obscure titles. Check this one out. Okay, I'm standing in front of Food Fight. This was one of my childhood favorite games on the Atari 5200, I know. I don't know why we had that, but we did. And Food Fight was an awesome game. Here's the thing. The arcade cabinet has gotten really expensive over the years, but I haven't really been tracking it, so I asked the guy, would you be willing to sell it, and he said, yeah, for four grand. Well, with Food Fight going for $4,000, that's way too rich for my blood. Luckily, there are plenty of other things to do around here to keep my mind from obsessing over arcade games. For instance, cosplay is literally everywhere. It's very common at Game On Expo to see people dressed up, and since this is the first time the con's been back in a few years, people are out in full swing. I saw Luigi, Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and I even saw John Riggs as Eggman walking the show floors. It's fun to see everyone back and so passionate about gaming and pop culture in general. I even got to watch an epic Star Wars battle featuring Darth Vader himself. Question. Is it fair to kick during a lightsaber battle? So I'm not just here exploring. John, who runs the show, also known as GameStory81 on YouTube, provided us with a table in the arcade area. So we're here to hang out the whole weekend. Thanks, John. You rock, man. I used it mainly for live streaming, but I had a lot of fans come by and say hi. It was awesome to have such outpouring of support, and I really enjoyed meeting with everyone that came over. The table was busy all weekend but I had a surprise guest join our table area and he someone I think you might recognize I was introduced to Gerard through Riff recently it been really great meeting all these super passionate gamers and it's awesome to be able to get to know each of them guys I just found Johnny Cage get over here there's a lot of youtubers here though John Riggs metal Jesus rocks the completionist you name it fans are probably here calling their name. Game on Expo, this is Retro Ralph. Yes, the Pixel Game Squad is here. One of the really cool things about Game on Expo is Retro World Series is here, and they put on events for all sorts of different console games. Right now they're doing NBA Jam, but they got SNES games, Nintendo 64 games, Dreamcast games. It's pretty awesome. And if you're not in the competitive spirit, you can play all sorts of console games on the floor set up right here. I'm not even joking when I say there's a system here for everyone. Take a quick look around and you'll see that. Even for VR junkies. I've dabbled in VR since the Oculus Development Kit days, but believe it or not, I've never tried Richie's plank experience. Here goes nothing. Oh my gosh! Gosh, alright, I know I'm not on a real plank, but, Mason, I can't. Do it, the hero's gonna die, so go for it. I actually can't, like, it's freaking, I can't, like, it's freaking me out. Thanks, man, that's fun, I appreciate it. Cool, thanks. I mentioned that earlier I was streaming from the expo, but little did I know, things were about to get very interesting. Can you go buy me the Blockbuster hat? Really? I'll give you steak dinner. Yeah. Because I want to wear it on the street. Oh, yeah, big spender, baby. That's going to get a good... No, that's a $100 bill. You better give me change. Should we try to see how fast I can do this? Oh, my gosh, he's running with my freaking camera. Dude! Oh my god, he got it! No freaking way, he just got it! That was so worth it! I really want this for the reasons that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is pretty unique, in the sense that this came out as an arcade release only in Japan, and it was interesting because it ran on Wii hardware. It was like Wii-esque hardware, and I actually have the original hardware for it still. I'm looking for the right cabinet to build to showcase it, but it did also have one American release and it was on the Nintendo Wii, unfortunately. So I don't feel like it got the exposure. It's not celebrated enough, I feel, but anyway, they want 200 for it. It's kind of high, but I might do it. We've been talking a lot about candy cabs in the channel lately, and this is a Sega NUNET CITY, but it's running Monkey Ball. It's super unique. I don't know if this is original, but okay. First of all, I just came over because I still have a candy cab, but now I'm hooked on Monkey Ball. And, you know, Mason's been telling me I need a GameCube, and he told me, he's like, dude, that's one of the games on GameCube, you'll absolutely love it. And this is so much fun. It has this weird, like, banana controller. And I think, actually, they got licensing from Dole, the banana company, because Dole advertisements are all over it. But if you get a chance to play this, whether it be on GameCube, I guess, or in the arcade, it's totally worth it. And I'm kind of addicted now. Oh, wait, shit. No! I fell already People are out here still having a great time Let go visit my friend Danny Hi my name is Danny from Ready Player One Games located in Glendale Arizona We offer a wide variety of pinball machines, arcades, collectibles, comic books. Ready Player One Games. Okay, so before we left Ready Player One Games, I saw this. This is a Back to the Future number one comic. And it's signed by Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox. But also from Bob Gale and Tom Wilson, who plays Biff, and Leah Thompson. Like, this is really, really cool. It's worth about $3,000. And what was interesting about it is it originally just had the title of the movie and the DeLorean. but they had an artist fill this all in and then get it signed. This is epic, and I guess apparently there's a guy coming back today that's going to pay three grand for this, and I don't blame him. This is an epic, epic piece of memorabilia from the movie. Does anybody have a quarter? Does anybody have a quarter to play? You can't have a gaming expo without panels, and Game On Expo has plenty of them. I had the opportunity to emcee with Paul Niemeyer. He's the original Bally Midway artist that's most known for his work on the iconic Mortal Kombat dragon logo. I also emceed his panel in Atlanta for Southern Fried Gaming Expo, so it was a treat to see him again. I also got a chance to host my own panel again. My first panel ever was at Game On Expo 2019, so I was super excited since I haven't done one in a while. This time I talked about arcade collecting. The good, the bad, and the ugly. It had a great turnout, and I'm grateful for everyone that showed up to support me. It makes me so happy to see so many people interested in arcade gaming. One of the coolest things is there was a 12-year-old kid that came up to me and said, Hey, Retro Ralph, sign this for me. And then after I did, he said, Do you think you can help me find a punch-out? I thought that was awesome. such a cool kid, and to see someone that's 12 years old interested in the hobby just really warms my heart. I also had to check out the Pixel Game Squad and the Completionist panels. Both were extremely entertaining. It makes me so happy that I have the circle of friends that I do. All right, wait for it. Ready? like favorite game my favorite but one of my favorites of all time and the reason why this one's so cool is because someone put it in an acrylic side onto a golden axe cabinet so you can see inside it and everything i'm i don't know i really want this so this is cobra arcade it's a local arcade here in phoenix if they would sell this to me i would buy it in a rv Why are these so tiny? It tiny like Ricky You know what I need to borrow him Do you think that you could come back with a good console for Yeah. We're going to put Gabbo to the challenge. Like what you want. I know where to go. Yeah? Yeah. I'm not partial to it. You guys hang out and talk a minute. Hey, give me some cash. Oh, wow. I'm playing Street Fighter. I don't know if I ever told you my favorite game ever. Oh, what is this? Oh, it's over here. Hi, I'm Gabo the Giver. I'm from Pixel Game Squad and Gabo the Giver channel. So today, I'm going to be game hunting for Ralph. So let's see how he goes. Happiness. Wish me luck. All right, so there's Gabo. I gave him $40. That's all right. What are they looking at? Is it a Game Boy game? I can't tell. What did he get? What was it? I missed it. What was it? What did he get? Did you guys see? So you give me $40. Yeah. Look what I got. Shut up! No, he didn't. He didn't. What? He said he's a favorite baseball squad member. Okay, because the guy looked annoyed for a minute. Did you convince him to do that? What? What the hell, dude? Look. I can't believe he did that. What was the magic? Tell me the magic. Donnie is a really, really good friend of ours. He always, you know, hoaxes people off. So wait, this means that I actually can pay for my hat now? There you go. Nice, dude. You can trade that for your hat and your glasses, bro. I know. Seriously. Gabbo was such a good sport. We put him on the spot, and he did awesome. Great job, man. Thanks for hunting with us. If you want to see the full stream, check it out over at Retro Ralph Live. So I'm sitting at our table, and I see Riff and Gerard the Completionist walking up. They looked like they were kind of up to no good, and then bam! Gerard shows me the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom fight stick and said, I got this for you. I was beyond stoked, and what a freaking amazing gift. I got a chance to really get to know him over the weekend, and he's just an awesome human being, outside of being an awesome content creator. I thanked him over and over. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom has become one of my favorite fighting games, so this was an epic gift to receive. Thanks again, bro, and I'm going to have to figure out how to return the favor at some point.
