Batman '89 restoration finale: cleaning, lighting tuning, connector repair, PinSound audio install

Summary

Cary Hardy documents the final restoration stages of a Batman '89 pinball machine, focusing on backbox cleaning, lighting adjustments, power supply troubleshooting, and audio system installation. The video demonstrates display connector rebuilding techniques and showcases PinSound audio board capabilities with subwoofer integration.

Key Claims

  • Orange bulbs in backbox were replaced with cool white to improve contrast with surrounding yellow elements

high confidence · Direct observation during backbox modification; speaker made the change in real-time

  • Display garbling issues traced to connector failure rather than power supply problems

high confidence · Diagnostic process: new power supply installed first, persistent issues led to connector rebuilding with new pins

  • PinSound amplifiers are required to power subwoofers; original factory sound cards cannot deliver sufficient power

high confidence · Direct technical claim during audio system explanation and demonstration

  • Extended burn-in testing (hours) reveals power and heat issues in pinball machines before returning to owner

high confidence · Standard practice described by speaker for pre-delivery machine validation

all right we are at the halfway point right here so you can see obviously which side has been cleaned and which side hasn't been cleaned. That's a heck of a night and day difference and yeah little by little bit by bit but it's coming off pretty well this thing's probably gonna look a lot better. There we go let's get it on the backbox now and see how it looks. Maybe it'll look a lot better now. So it's already looking a lot better, although I'm going to take this orange bulb out right here. I'm not sure why it was there. This isn't too bad right here with the orange, but I'm going to try a cool white right here to kind of make that yellow around there stick out a lot better. We're just going to see how that does, but that definitely, I don't know why, but I'm going to take that out and get you make that look a lot better right there so we're almost there but it looks a lot better guys all right i think we're good now so we've got mostly warms a few cools up here and i kept the orangish yellowish ones like a line of them right here i think that actually makes the uh the batman logo look more the yellow and black theme that everybody's kind of used to but I did take out the yellows that were down here at the bottom and did those with a warm. So I think it's actually pretty well balanced. Colors pop really good And I think we are officially done So now I just need to play the hell out of it While I finish installing this, let me tell you about the sponsor of the video, Pensound. Not only have they sponsored multiples of my videos, they create a great line of products. Their board quality and components are top notch, and I have yet to have a problem with any of their hardware. Along with their sound boards that can really enhance a game with upgraded sound packages from the community, they also create DMD boards and are now even creating MPU boards for your pinball collection. I cannot recommend their products enough. A sure way to improve your pinball experience while also increasing your game's value is by installing Pinsound products. I will leave a link in the video description. Be sure to check out what all they have to offer on their website. So one of the things that I do whenever I'm about to give a machine back to the owner is that I leave the machine on for hours and hours and hours to make sure that nothing occurs over time. and that usually indicates like you know a possible heat issue or power or something like that over time so with this game being on for hours at one point i started seeing that the displays started becoming a little garbled and trashed up or just not working at all which is usually indicative of a possible power issue now since we've got a new power supply and i know the voltage and everything is amazing coming out of this board then my next culprit was more than likely going to be this connector so i rebuilt this entire connector with uh new pins and everything traffic traffic on uh pins and everything so and i have not had an issue since then so if you have an issue with the garble display you may want to look at this being your possible culprit right here All right, guys, I'm just going to play a game here to finish up this finale and to let you know, the subwoofer that I have installed is only able to do this type of something with the pin sound. The pin sound has the amplifiers to push this subwoofer. Your original factory sound card is not going to push this thing. All right, that's just the demo mode for the song. Now, where you can really hear this subwoofer thump is whenever I start a song from Prince. That's where it feels like I've got a shaker motor inside this thing. See, you're dancing with that little hell of a mic. Your luck is about to change. No. Are you sure about this Now these are never Do you ever heard of the eerie power of the last I did not ask? No, I'm just kidding. So there you have it. Batman. Has it over, huh? Thank you.
