The Gamecraft Arcade popped up on my radar pre-pandemic as a cool looking new location. I’ve thought about popping up there a couple of times, but it’s a couple of hours from my house…just far enough that I haven’t yet. We’ll, my son has a lacrosse tournament near Yale, which just so happened to be a few minutes from Gamecraft. Ed Boon. Done deal. The arcade itself is located in the back of an industrial-looking building with a nondescript sign out front. What’s inside is anything but nondescript. Next door to an axe-throwing location (which is really fun BTW if you’ve never tried it) is the door to gaming heaven. The first thing John Youssi when you walk in the front door is a never-ending row of pinball machines. Great titles too. I was able to fill in two blanks in my Pindigo collection, getting to play Spooky Pinball’s Rick and Morty and Stern’s Avengers Infinity Wars for the first time ever. Making up for lost time during the pandemic. Both games were fantastic. A lot of people have bashed Rick and Morty for being “clunky”. I see what they’re saying, but I didn’t care. I loved it. A few of the shots were tight or tough to hit, but it was so different and that’s what the hobby needs, different layouts rather than all of the same cookie-cutter ones. I like the show so the theme is a major plus for me and the theme-integration was great. The new Avengers was great as well. Another Elwin masterpiece. All of the shots were so smooth and had so much flow. Right next to the Avengers was a Gottlieb Super Mario Brothers, which is a pretty uncommon thing to see on location. My family and I had as much playing that as anything. The rest of the pins were great as well, from classics like Fishtales and Whirlwind to newer games like Stern Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They all played really well. We didn’t experience any issues. Onto the vids! There was some really cool, uncommon stuff at Gamecraft. One has to start with the proverbial elephant in the room, the 6-Player X-Men. You don’t see them often, but when you do, they’re the center of attention. Other highlights for me included Toobin’(man I love that cabinet and what’s not to love about floating down a River throwing beer cans at people lol). The Guitar Hero 🎸 was getting a ton of play. The place had a cabaret Smash TV, which is something that I have never ever seen before. I wonder if it was a conversion? Does anyone out there know if those are original? Oh they had a very uncommon Food Fight cabinet too. So much cool stuff. Of course my family and I played several intense games of the Pac-Man Battle Royale 4-player simultaneous game. That game is so good. My wife and I had two drinks but we didn’t eat anything so I can’t vouch for the food, but people were eating. The drinks were good. The games take tokens. Usually $0.50/play. Tokens can be purchased from the bartender for essentially a quarter each. A discount was given to people who buy fifty bucks worth. They came in cool little velvet pouches. Gamecraft is definitely the best arcade that I have been to in Connecticut. Kudos to them. It’s absolutely worth a visit. That’s it. Keep your eyes peeled 👀 for another arcade report soon.
